A lot of students give Donna slack about being too difficult. She should not be blammed for being difficult when some students expect lecture material handed to them. Her helpfulness allows every student to explore their potential...IF THEY DESIRE IT!!!

It was a difficult course, took lots of extra time, but what did you expect- its medicine for goodness sakes. If its too hard, don't take it. Donna was great- lectures were thorough and she sure knows her stuff.

She test for failure, anyone can do that.She has a clas of 200 people and a majority are below 57%, her examples always involve suicide or other violent acts. All in all the worst course I have ever taken and if I had the choice I would fire her. Mark 78%

Donna is a great lecturer, is always helpful and a super nice lady. It's a human anatomy course. I don't know why people assume it's going to be easy and then blame the prof when they don't do well or actually have to work.

Great class...you will never learn MORE than this in one class, in your life...plus, its very useful. Shes a great teacher....but if she tells you you can be a TA, dont take her word for it cause shes ditch u and not return your emails!!!

The material was very interesting. I learned so much, more than any other class. However, her testing methods are rediculous. Many times she tests on material that she never taught. You have to homeschool yourself the entire text book to do well. She is friendly for sure, but not a fair examiner.

Donna is the best! I found her extremely helpful and easy to approach. She's probably one of the smartest women I know, as well as one of the most hard working. She IS Anatomy! Of course the class is going to be tough, and she can't sugar coat it.

I have such mixed feelings on this class. Part of me liked Donna, but she can be a real snob, and not the greatest of help at times. If your a jock, you will do well with her.

I find Donna very intelligent however ..sometimes when you are too intelligent you don't know how to teach. I find her boring and she speaks very low. She does not appear approachable at all. I found that when she tells you that you don't need to know something for the test..know it anyways..it WILL be on the test.

This class was online. Material was easy but her grading is inconsistent. She seems to only focus on exercise physiology. We nurses need to know other aspects of physiology that she totally missed. What a waste this class has been. I had to take this class but they should find someone else who knows about the nursing field than an exercise person.

This course is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Donna's lectures are slow, tedious and predictable. Her exams are a surprise attack of detailed and obscure questions. Lecture material and exam material are HIGHLY inconsistent.

Very difficult prof. It seemed nothing was important in her leture and she would tell you the exam was easy. In fact, exam was really tricky. I think her goal was to fail students. Her voice is very soft so you need to sit close to the front. Very slow in leture and be careful the contents before final, she may not cover them but you will be tested

She taught me anatomy and obviously its hard. People think she's mean because they found it too difficult maybe you guys should think about switching programs, Donna is one of the smartest teachers Ive ever had, and very approachable.

Donna is a pleasure, I looked forward to her class. She really knows her stuff. Her lecture style is relaxed and she was always in a great mood. My only complaint is that it took forever to get out marks back. If you have any interest in this class take it, you will learn so much!

Not mandatory to attend class unless you want to pass, bc she uses things she talks about on the exam. Anatomy is hard to learn, but she makes it exciting and is very oraganized (provides lecture notes to follow with). I really enjoyed her class! If you study, you'll pass. If you don't you won't, but thats up to you not her. She provides the info.

One of my favourite professors! Made Anatomy easy and fun. I don't know why everyone is saying it was so difficult. If you read your notes and go to class you should have no problem getting AT LEAST 80's on all the exams.

She is my least favourite professor. She hardly refers to the textbook (which we have two of) her slides are inconsistent, she will hesitate in between explanations, her voice is low and uninteresting and i find it difficult to comprehend what she's telling us. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS, or you will probably fail the exam.

Donna's a great teacher. At first she seems to be a bit of a hard-a**, but after awhile you realize she's a nice woman who is VERY smart. Her exams are hard if you don't study. But come on just go to class and you'll be JUST fine. A wonderful, approachable teacher. Doesn't use the textbook, but her slides are very informative. And she's JACKED!

Actually my favourite teacher in my entire university career. Very knowlegable professor and as long as you study the notes and attend classes slash have a really good memory you'll do fine. The course content and exams are hard though.

Shes a great prof, knows her stuff but her exams are hard. She warns u at the beginning of class that you must attend every lecture. Read prior to class, and study weeks ahead of midterms/lab exams/final exam. Take her seriously, students tend to underestimate her before the 1st midterm

Fair marker, great teacher. Very easy to understand, but you MUST attend all lectures as not all content is in her slides or textbook. Bring a laptop and type down everything she says. She has hard exams, but all content is mentioned in class.

She's an amazing prof. Without a doubt my favourite, but she is very hard.She knows her stuff. Her exams are mainly identify and literally anything she says can and will be on the exams. Going to class is pretty mandatory if you expect to do well.

Absolutely fantastic prof who is extremely knowledgeable in the field of anatomy. Attending lectures is absolutely crucial, as her exam material is always based on what she says in class. Going to the extra lab periods is also integral to doing well in my opinion. Anatomy is a complex subject, but if you put in enough effort you'll love it!

Cram as much information as you can for her tests. For the most part, her questions were fair but there were some things she would literally mention once and expect you to know. My advice: record her lectures then re-listen and re-write good notes. It's time consuming but will guarantee a 90+. OH and don't purchase Grant's Atlas (useless!)

Tests are tough, however everything on them is covered in lecture which you should attend as her notes do not contain all the information needed.

Donna is a great prof and her lectures contain everything you will need to prepare yourself for the exam. She talks really fast and will mention something once that could be on the exam so everything she says needs to be written down. The notes she provides are vague so if you don't go to class, theres no way you will pass. Use time wisely in lab

Extremely good prof. I took both anatomy courses last summer and loved them both. Tests were very reasonable and the lectures were super interesting. Donna is extremely knowledgeable and told some good stories during her lectures :) I almost wish I could go sit in on them again this summer to brush up on my anatomy because they were so enjoyable.

Dr. Newhouse was an incredible professor. She was great at giving detailed information and staying organized. Labs were super fun and I really enjoyed going to lecture. Sometimes I wish I could take her course again!

She is difficult for no reason. All tests are written in an obscure way and you cant go back to check your answers. There are many fill in the blank questions and she expects you to spell all the medical terminology correctly. All the diagrams are at the end and she won't make any concessions to help. Choose someone else.

This professor is probably one of the hardest profs I've had, she does not know how to teach a lecture online and trying to get through her lectures with the monotone voice she uses is unbearable. She marks solely on your midterm and exam and gives no other option to get grades. Trust me if you have a chance to switch out and get a new prof DO IT

For someone who also teaches at NOSM, I'm baffled at how she facilitates her online tests, accusing most of the class of cheating on speculation rather than actual evidence. It's quite questionable, borderline unethical, happens every yr. since I've been at Lakehead. Use a term in the text and not her lectures? Might get labeled as a cheater.

Prof. Newhouse is one of the best instructors at Lakehead and one of the few who still create their own questions. Her classes are hard, yes; it takes discipline to get a good grade, yes, but you have to put the work in. Who wants a nurse that can tell you the valves of the heart, but not the s/s of cardiac tamponade, or how to fix it?

Donna has very thorough slideshows which are about 70 slides long usually and its hard to know which content will be on the exam (you have to study it all). Very tough exams and most of the class would have failed the course if it weren't for 2 other class's grades being combined with this class's grade. Nice person and boring lectures. DONT SKIP.

I have no doubt that shes very knowledgeable in the content, but that doesn't make her good at TEACHING. Her teaching style is dry, monotoned, uncreative, uninspiring. also whispers to 200 ppl She fails to do the bare min. she's unavailable after class for questions. no office hrs. never answer any emails. No idea why she chose this career path tbh

Newhouse is the absolute worst prof. She should not have the ability to teach the future health care professionals. I personally feel she either hates achievers or is so insecure that refuses to allow students succeed. Exams are written in such a way it sets you up for failure. Zero replies to any form of communication and no office hours.

Attend the lectures I cannot stress this enough, she is an extremely hard marker. She goes into immense detail during her lectures and in order to actually understand all of it you have to read the textbook before or right after class. Her tests are majority fill in the blank with no test bank but very specific detailed questions.

The worst course experience I could imagine. Midterm is 9 days after the course begins. 240 questions. 10 of them are MCQ. 230 are just blank boxes to fill in. Asks you to mentally rotate, identify and name every single ligament and bone protrusion. She told an ESL student they had to correctly spell all the Latin words used or be marked incorrect.

I understand she is trying to build quality nurses, but her tests are so off putting and impossible to prepare for when juggling a heavy course load. She will give you 180 question test and 120 questions will be fill in the blank about some super small insignificant notch on your tibia. I think I would've had better luck studying quantum physics.

Poor teaching and presents incorrect information very, very often. Old ratings scored high - did something happen? Wrong on very many basic anatomy concepts and had to be corrected by students many times. It was like listening to THAT kid's presentation in grade school who did everything the day of. NOSM doctors are being incorrectly instructed.

Newhouse was an awful instructor for nursing. Focused too heavily on content which is useless in later years, exams were unfair and far too long for the timing. Lectures were brutally boring and she often went on tangents. Avoid her at all costs if you can.

Although attendance isn't mandatory, missing a class will completely screw you over. Start studying from the very first day of the semester and maybe you'll have a slight chance at passing. Donna's really smart and I don't think her tests are impossible because she's trying to be evil, but because it's all common sense to her. Be ready to cry a lot

Donna is a really great lecturer, if you go to class and pay attention. Everything on the exams was covered in lecture. She emphasizes things that she tests on so make sure to pay attention. You will have to study a lot and she likes fill in the blanks so make sure to know how to spell everything. Her exams are hard but fair.

Studying is 100% necessary! Lectures are very detailed and instresting but make sure you FULLY know the content going into exams, exams are very detailed so no content in depth not just concepts. Takes a long time to reply to emails, better to talk to her in person

Overall very good and fair professor. It is a tougher course but to be successful you MUST go to class and pay attention. She does not put all the information on the slides so it is up to you to write notes. As long as you put effort into studying, learning the content, and going to the classes/labs, an A is very achievable.
