a boring teacher.. u just go to her class to sleep
if she posted notes on net, there would be no point going to class
boring class, her exams are stupid and she markes hard... a lot of notes!
she thinks she the best economics prof! beat that!
da 2nd mid-term was hard . The class average of that test is only 50%.
non-stop noting till the end, talk fast like a machine gun
Good teacher I like her

hard,hard....
tests PURELY based on notes,119 at least. but i did hear that 120/1221 is really hard and she becomes a mad woman. if she teaches 119, take her and memorize ure notes word for word/ supply and demand-b for sure.
too many notes. but her exams are easy, at least in 1119. in retrospect, i wish i didn't take this class since it is so useless. oh, and she is very boring.
She goes really fast in class and expects her students to know alot. If you show your work and do the study guide, you will get a pretty good mark though.
Awful teacher. Her lesson is meaningless, all is copying her notes. And she asks too detailed for exam and assignments.
Gives good notes, but a lot. Exams are alright. Is a good teacher.
good (repetitive) notes, difficult exams; very helpful
wordy notes and long too, exams are stupid and useless, talks soo much, your answers on u'r exams and hw have to be really detailed, u have to do a lot of explaining in the hw like she is 5 yrs old.
The Persian Prince hates this teacher. she is such a female dog all these long ass assignments i hated her soo much still do
Try to approach her with a problem that requires more than 5 minutes of her time and she might just ask you to read the book again and come back to her if you don't get it. If you fail, it's because "you did not study enough". Yeah, thanks for
Evil Witch! Not helpful. If you ask a question she assumes you haven't been coming to class and tells you to get the notes off someone. Never assumes that maybe she didn't explain it well enough. She also goes fast on the notes. Tests are hard, but fair.
there are lots of notes but they really wont help much during the exam. best way to prepare for everything is to study the text. she's educated, but doesn't teach very well. sometimes she comes off as a know it all.
she needs to go back to teaching school. she so fast & rushes through her notes so fast, the class has NO time to digest them. She wonders why her failure rate is always so high?? hmmmm... thats a tricky one. and not an approachable person at all
very easy to understand her lecture. Don't forget to review all of the class notes before final.
We have to copy alot of notes that are basically useless, plus she teaches while we are copying out ass off, so we either misses some notes, or we misses hearing what she says
No Comments
very unconsiderate when it comes to marking the tests. Needs to be clear about her long lectures. She needs to stop talking while writing the lectures coz its really hard to understand....WE ARE NOT MULTITASKERS!!!!
it was a mistake taking this class in the first place, despite the subject's validity in every day life. this woman needs to realize not everyone is naturally skilled with this type of logic. in a way, i liked her for her sharp and no BS temperament, i respect that. on the other hand, as an instructor it is your JOB to ensure your students follow.
She was cool. If u study and pay attention in class, any moron can get a good grade.
Actually I think her lecture is quite clear. She has detail notes.I don't even need to read the textbook. If you want to do well, you should do study guide & her assignment. The exams are mainly from note and assignment. There is seldom surprise Questions.I think her speed is ok as she writes the notes on overhead, then talk.I dunno y other can't follo
It was probably the hardest class i'v taken so far. I would have to say that there were pros and cons to her class. pros: very rigid and structured which demanded perfection. cons, didn't really fancy the university style marking...not to keen on having most of the marks based on an exam structure.
she is great! her lecture is very clear and organized. if you show up every class and take notes and do the hw, u will get a high mark. she is awesome.
Bestest Teacher i've ever had....i strongly recommend taking her....
she's an idiot. if you plan on thinking outside the box a bit, or taking this class because your interested in econ....dont. theres her way and the wrong way, and no middle ground...ive never met such a humourless woman
not a good teacher
had her for micro and im taking her again for macro. She's really helpful... like if you need help go to her during her office hours and she'll help you out. Notes on webct help especially when u get sick also easier to pay attention and understand things in class. she's difficult but if you pay attn you should be fine. don't be afraid to work. :)
Took her Econ 1220 online. Quizes and midterms have nothing to do with the textbooks I read. Over-intese quizes(2 or 3 quizes every 7 or 8 days).
Horrible teacher! She goes way too fast on the notes and if you ask her to go back or even ask a simple question, she accuses you of not paying attention. She also got mad and defensive about exam material when THE ENTIRE CLASS suggested that she never went over it in class. I could go on and on with examples of how awful she was, but no space left
Useless and defensive. Tests are mostly unrelated to course materials. She even bemoans teaching economics as though it is beneath her. I would never consider taking one of her classes again. Totally unresponsive to the needs of her students, I really can't say enough bad things about this prof.
Had her for an online course - worst prof ever. Not interested in helping students, control freak (test due on Thursday but getting mad at people for not having it done on Tuesday), rude and condescending, practice questions were stupidly easy and then quizzes and exams were ridiculously hard. Calls students "you people." Avoid!!
The best prof ever! Very organized and fast pace prof. If you're one of those fast learners, you'll have no problem. Don't miss any classes and do all the assignments. That's where the questions for quiz and exams come from and you should do just fine.
my worse teacher in summer!!!!!!!!!!
She's ok. Kinda defensive. Assignments + mid terms were good. Final was extremely unsatisfying. Could not believe how lame of a final it was. Just a weird choice of questions that really didn't seem like very logical choices... Unless the goal is to try and mess with the students. I still did fine, but that final was weak.
The worse final ever. Shame on her.......
Useless and defensive. Tests are mostly unrelated to course materials. She even bemoans teaching economics as though it is beneath her. I would never consider taking one of her classes again.
She is quite fair and pushes hard right off the top. If you study and have lots of independance, then she is fine. Somewhat fair, but hard for first years, so you need to really push it once you start. Lots of quizzes and need to study daily
Donna is a straight-forward teacher who does a good job of explaining material in class. There are weekly quizzes and problem sets handed out (problem sets are not graded). She is always willing to help students if they ask, both in class and during office hours. Ultimately this course requires self-dedication as it covers a wide range of material.
I got an A in this class, but she is without a doubt one of the worst teachers on campus. She blazes through the course and complains about having to slow down. The quizzes and problem sets are a joke and make you feel good about what you study, then her midterms are ridiculously hard. Worst final ever, based entirely on 2nd midterm, no new content
Don't bother asking for assistance, if you do she'll simply say its your fault for not showing up to class, even if you do. She even uses it as a scapegoat directly on exams, citing "you'll know how to do this if you came to class". Condescending and extremely rude. Refuses to scale even on a midterm with a class average of 40%. Avoid at all costs
Midterms 1 - hard ; Midterm 2 - hard ; Final - even harder... --- Don't bother doing the problem sets as they are far too easy to be on the midterm and final....Multiple choices on exams are close to impossible...so i stopped doing the study guide m.c.....there's a huge freaking economics essay on the final that u have to comprehend...wow
Not that I loved this teacher, but she explains the material very well. Though sometimes it seemed that she just knows stuff from the book, because she did not answer my questions directly and was providing relative information from the books and her notes. Just read a text book, do a study guide. I've never done problem sets, but still got a B.
She is a good teacher.......
Donna's class was far better than other Econ's I've taken. I studied off of her notes and didn't open the text book and did great. Exams were 100% easier than in Fullton Tom's class.
I thought she stuck to the course content really well so the exam was easy. She was not the most entertaining and somewhat hard to pay attention. She picked favorites but as long as you paid attention she treated you well. I think she is a good teacher.
Without a doubt the worst teacher I have ever had. She explains the material just fine. However her tests are hard because she's lazy (the wording is impossibly ambiguous). Plus she's defensive and nuts. She screamed insults at the class the first time I had her. She lied about me cheating the next time (had to contact the Dean to sort it out).
I think she is one of those frustrated people that has no life and gets her pride from having control over students.. hard exams, you have to keep up with the material day by day just terrible... avoid at all cost
Very organized and well-prepared. Good teacher
Best & very helpful instructor I ever had. U've to do ur homework before asking 4 help. Mid-terms & final r easy if u do problem sets but also need 2 be smart. Surprised quizzes & in-class assigns could be obstacles to get A. So, I got B even though I could get A very easily. 2296 is hard but Donna made it easy. Thank you Donna; U R the best!
Horrible
She is an okay teacher. Her tests are not hard as long as you do the problem sets. The TEXTBOOK was practically useless... the textbook is only used to answer the multiple choice questions. Her short answers are based on the problem sets. The only complaint is that attendence is mandatory and that her email replies suck real bad!
very useless when you ask her questions. I sent at least 3 messages to her and all of them are answered like this " you should be reviewing your textbook". LOL wow.... very useless
She restricts the use of calculators for exams, however you MUST use a calculator for the problem sets. So that is a bit confusing. She is unapproachable. She is smart, but that does not the best teacher. Expects you to figure out questions on your own. Not helpful. She does not seem to enjoy her job. She is unsupportive when students struggle.
I have mixed feelings about Donna. She's a genuinely nice and intelligent woman who can teach really well. However, I feel like right now she's going a little too fast (we went over three chapters in like two days) and her midterm was really challenging for the amount of time given. I would recommend her though..
Attend all classes, dont be late. Study hard, on her notes, and the textbook. DO ALL THE STUDY GUIDE!!! Don't be too worried if you are a little confused in class it makes sense when you go over it, at home with the text book. She posts all her notes online, and definitions, its very helpful.
No idea how to describe such a tough instructor. She teaches like everyone knows the contents as well as her. Wording notes,300 pages of notes for 13 chapters, no difference from a textbook.
Chill class. I didn't even go to class except for midterms and the final and I got an A-. Just stay at home, read the textbook and you'll do fine.
Everything seems like an inconvience to this teacher. She seems selfish and doesn't seem to care at all about the students and their needs. She means well, but she is not helpful or approachable. This is just my personal opinion and my two cents.
I found Donna's lectures interesting. However, she's a very tough marker and you must make sure you keep up with the reading or you're doomed in this class.
nice and helpful. teach everything in details.
that was the easiest midterm i've ever had. True and false? THAT'S IT?
Donna was very helpful. She likes students who come to class, ask questions, read her notes and do her problem sets. Her midterms are somewhat hard, however I found the final to be easier than the midterms. Her quizes are the same as the problem sets so as long as you practice those you'll do well on quizes. Overall I enjoyed her class
She makes so strict rules in class. She pay too much attention on students not class. She always blame students but not focus on notes. Although she is teaching, just reading her notes. Exams are so hard. She is very happy if you fail the exam, and she said: oh, this course is hard, you cannot make it and it's so natural that student failed.
Very strict and a little condescending if you don't phrase your questions properly, and not exactly very helpful to those who are really behind. She's very knowledgeable but she expects you to be right on track of the topic. If you fall behind, you risk failing her class. Be prepared for some surprise quizzes, and don't fall asleep, she hates it.
In short, she's good, knowledgeable, and approachable. She makes great notes. She's very clear for what she's expecting on the midterms, and final. Her quizzes might be sometimes tricky at some level, but those were another help for students to be prepared for midterms. Yes, she respects mature and determined students, and I was cool with that.
In class donna was a decent teacher. To understand graphs and concepts u will have to read the textbook after class for elaboration.Do the study guide because questions on the quizzes.MOST IMPORTANTLY STUDY OFF THE PPT SLIDES SHE GIVES U.MTs and finals are average hardness.Final composed of wordvomiting everything didnt ask u on part 1 of final
The class was super interesting. She is a great teacher. By no means is her class an easy 'A', but school isn't supposed to be easy. I thoroughly enjoyed her class and hope to take another one of hers.
She is very knowledgeable and is good at summarizing the textbook. However, She comes off as condescending at times and for some reason dislikes college students. A study guide is a must have for doing well on her quizzes and with a bit of work you'll get a high grade.
"Beware of all those in whom the urge to punish is strong." - Friedrich Nietzsche. Beware of Donna ;) that's all I'll say. Otherwise, she's not a terrible teacher, just gets off on being the smartest person in the room.
Hard marker.
A very difficult course; even if you attend class or do the problem set, it is no help for your exams ! She keep track of attendance, if you're late for 5 min, you need to wait till the break . It's a tough course, and she's a hard marker; many classmates have dropped the class. If you can, my advice is to change to another Prof .
basically, you have to study alone. Her class is no help for her exams; but, you cannot skip classes. Hard exams, questions are barely similar as her Problem Set, the average for her course is below 70.
HARDEST TEACHER I EVER HAD. makes one a pretty easy course into learning another language. hardest maker i ever had, even if u spell something slightly incorrectly she will give u 0. You must do all the calculation her way. and write out each explanation her way. basically mimic everything she does and you will pass.
She is not approachable when you really need help. Cold voice. Her exams are completely different from the problem sets. Avoid at all cost!
Well, she knows the material very well, since she's already a phd... BUT, she goes through material VERY FAST, and assumes you get everything before she starts talking... Notes are pre-typed before class but is not completed. Not a good choice if you want to ask question in class.
her course is really really hard; if you want to take her course, you'd better know the whole book before registering. She does not care about her student. A hard marker.
Donna is pretty anal in her ways that her formulas are the only formulas she will accept, but if you pay attention and do a little bit of work it doesn't matter. Don't let her sass scare you, she is actually really nice and helpful. Her notes are some of the best. Do the study guides she sets and you'll pass the subject!!
Don't believe the comments. Donna comes across as a very sassy person but she is actually really helpful. Her notes are really helpful and sh take the time to explain things through out class. Do the work she sets and you will do well in her class!
Would not recommend if you don't want to wreck your GPA. Quizzes and tests are brutal, lectures are long and difficult to understand.
I dont no why so many ppl complain on here about her? Donna is the classic college prof. Just do the simple normal EXPECTED things: come to every class, focus and pay attention to what she is teaching, review the notes before an exam. Thats it! I didnt even buy the textbook. Just get the study guide and memorize the multple choice for quizzes.
She is a very tough marker who does not believe in partial marks. If you use the wrong word, or use a different formula but still get the correct answer she will still give you a zero. If you want to pass and still be able to understand the content in your own way then you would have to take a different prof.
She is a great instructor in my opinion. No, she won't hold your hand and baby you through the course but she is very clear about her expectations. Study thoroughly and you will get a good mark. There are no tricks on her quizzes or exams, they are straight-forward and very fair. The people who had their GPA 'wrecked' just didn't put the time in.
First of all she is Strict. If your grandmother dies she will NOT let you retake a quiz or exam. She marks participation(attendance, quiz) as 20% of you grade. Most test material is based on what she teaches in class(not included in textbook). If U r 5 mins late to class your not allowed in. If you are 3 seconds late U get a 0 on quiz. Not good4GPA
Does not respect cultural differences. Does not allow students to think their own way. Needs robots, not thinking students. We have to follow her only absolute way of thinking. Even if the answer is right, if it's not done her way, zero!
Donna is a bit strict, however she just expects you to not slack off/be respectful when she's lecturing. Her lectures are straightforward and informative. She's very helpful when asked for help. Her exams are easy provided that you do the work (study guide) and pay attention in class. She prints out notes as well, so you can focus on the lecture.
Very nice instructor, she is very clear as to what she expects you to know for her quizzes/ tests.
It was the worst class in my life. We have to follow her only absolute way of thinking. Even if you write the right answer but not exactly like how she want it to be you will get ZERO !! Her class is very boring and she is not helpful at all! You better stay at home instead of going to her class..
She is a very tough grader and she does not care about you. midterms are very tough. If you are looking for a good grade don't take her.
Worst instructor. Inhumanity best describes her. Spend a week on assignment and she won't take it because you were 30 seconds late. All your answer is correct but than u gave an extra point relevant to question but not asked, you get 0
She's not the worst prof ever, but she's extremely anal and expects you to complete work showing everything you've done in the exact way she's shown in class or else substantial marks are deducted. Sometimes unfair with marks, but she always has a "reason". Makes her own notes that are really helpful. I'll be taking her again despite her flaws
Just do the bare minimum (ie study guides) and you'll easily be able to attain an A. In lectures, she's very strict, but as long as you're respectful (no sleeping/texting) you'll be fine. Exams were similar to the format of study guide questions. Honestly one of the best professors I've had at Langara
Donna is straight forward with what it takes to succeed in the class. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about her. She is strict with her policies and grading but is fair - nothing is a surprise on the tests. No sort of trick questions. If you answer questions the way she wants, do the study guide, and show up to class, you will get a B min.
Keep up with the study guide. Don't get caught behind
Took her for Micro. If you never took an economics course in your life do not take her. She goes way too fast, does not use enough examples, and takes you as if you were a third year student already knowing everything. Economics courses have no introductory prerequisites and most students who have never taken econ fail due to courses being too fast
Well respected! Those who listen carefully and can follow specific guidelines and criteria will achieve good grades. For those who say she is strict and too serious, she is just simply following college policies which is her job. Her ways of teaching are very helpful! Always answers questions. Recommend her for those who are sharp and on point
Had her both for 1220 and 1221. If you can't follow simple instructions and explain your thinking, Donna may not be for you. Contrary to most, I think Donna is extremely fair in her marking and criteria. Nothing is a surprise on MTs or Finals. This class is taught at a significantly higher difficulty at other institutions so take advantage of it.
she's not understanding at all. don't even think about it. she goes by so fast and isn't good at explaining. her tests and exams were the hardest ever and honestly she is so unfair. i was heartbroken when i found out my grade being a person who loved econ before her class. it really does depend on the professor and she is not the right one at all
She gives in class assignments that help so much with the exam. Very very good teacher!
Not understanding and caring focus more on rules in the class than teaching
if you gave right answer but it doesnot match to exact terminology she wants u will get 0 . very very rude
Honestly she is the worst prof Ive ever had. She goes way too fast and doesnt care if her students understand. Does lots of assignments to help you prepare for MTs and finals but during the exams if your answer isnt how she expects it to be you will get a 0 and the examples she uses are very confusing and theyre useless to whats given on exam
Strict but fair instructor. Read the textbook. Complete the multiple choice questions in the study guide and you'll get a great mark on the quizzes and the course! You are required to write out entire formulas but this reinforced my understanding of economic theory. Took ECON at UBC , prof only used notation (AD AS SRAS LRAS) which confused me!
Donna is strict and methodical but she knows her content thoroughly. From day one, she made her expectations very clear. We knew exactly how she wanted us to answer her exam questions and assignments. There are no surprises in this class, if you show up to lecture, do the assignments, you will be able to achieve a B or higher.
Quiz is due before in class discussion related to that particular chapter. She wants students to use her words otherwise they will get 0. Very rude.
Took micro and macro with her. Her lectures are straightforward and she sets aside lecture notes for each chapter. Marking is made up almost entirely of midterms and final. If you study her lecture notes and read over the textbook, you will do well on the midterms and final. You must put in the time to learn the concepts, however, as she goes quick
Poor grading criteria
Don’t even reply to mails. And don’t give any idea for how she expect the answers to be.
Only gives very limited quizzes - hard to catch if you are not doing that well. She only gave 3 tests and then 1 final. No assignments, nothing. You can say, that is just doing her job and does not really genuinely care about her students. Her method of explaining things are not very interesting though it's good because she is slow in talking.
Horrible grader and does not use study quiz material in exams. Most questions during exams do not cover study material, and all grading relies on 4 exams. No homework, no quiz marks, no other grading from other assignments, only exams. She is very particular in looking for answers she wants to see, inflexible.
This Prof sends out multiple weeks of work in 2 days and expects it to be done in couple days. She will also send out many assignments when people are still working on the first one.She will also not answer your emails trying to ask for help.
TLDR : Overall fairly poor teacher. Pros: Her knowledge of the material is okay and her lectures are superficial yet straightforward. Cons: Impersonal bordering on rude, very strict on attendence and participation, biased, poor marker and unable to accept her own mistakes. Would highly recommend not taking this professor unless you need to.
Her marking is extremely picky and unfair. You must do EVERYTHING the way she wants, or marks get taken off.. even if your answers are correct and explained well. She also wastes way too much time in lecture on unrelated topics and arguing with students about "rules" that don't actually matter that much. Really disappointed in the course over all.
Awful experience in her class. Don't take it if you have other options. 90% grade on 3 exams. You still have to do 2 assignments every week. She doesn't make thing easier for you but harder. Overall, a very bad professor.
