Impossible. I barely passed. Her tests are all essay, and she's the kind of teacher who says define this... I define, BUT who coined the term? what year was it known as this? why is it defined as this? blah blah blah. AND only 3 tests. That's your entire grade. She also likes to make people argue.
Wasserman is tough but fair. She really knows her stuff (she has a PhD from the Univ. of Michigan) and makes class interesting. We have lots of heated political discusses but she treats all sides with respect. You have to show up for class and do the work to do well, but it is college...
Donna is a rather effective instructor. She encourages abstract thinking and teaches the class as it should be. People complain because they think that WCC should be like high school. Think about it this way, she is preparing you for a real college and the real world. Overall, great professor!
A lewd woman, who should be in the political system rather than teaching it
Great teacher, seriously.
can you spell B-O-R-I-N-G? That is what her class is. She almost bit off my head when I came late the first day of class.
she was soooo hard all her test are essays and almost impossible to pass. all she talks about is how she went to U of M and its suppose to be the best school in the state (who cares!) she sucked!!!!!!!
I took this course because I had to but ended up really liking it. She expects a lot but was fair in grading, etc. I would definitely recommend her to other students.
the best part of the class was when we watched a CLIP of bowling for columbine
she is boring and hard. she gives you an extremly heavy work load and her test are so hard its like she wants you to fail. she is not friendly or helpful at all.
This class was definitely not a hard class. The work load was pretty light as a matter of fact. If you show up to class and do the reading, you will be fine. She always tells us how the class did and most people got As and Bs on the tests. She really knows her stuff.
This class was not boring. We had some interesting class discussions on lots of issues. My biggest complaint was that the class was filled with lots of total losers who never did any work and never had anything to say in class.
Dr. D is absolutely one of the best teachers at WCC, and they're lucky to have her there. Lots of essays, which is good since it's a 200-level government class. She does a great job of filtering out the dead weight who probably shouldn't even be in school in the first place. Take her if you can!
Good teacher. It's hard to get young people into politics, that's why I think all the poor reviews below are BS. She teaches with a ton of knowelge and makes me think about my own opinions to make me a better critical thinker.
Dr. Wasserman is a great teacher, definately one of my Favorites at WCC. She takes politics and makes it relevant to modern life, mostly through discussion of current events. Her tests aren't that bad, but you definately have to know your stuff to get a good score on her essays. Some people here seem to be complaining because she isn't one of those teachers whose class you can skip half the time and still pull out a decent grade. She promotes great class discussions and is very helpful if you seek her out.
Mrs. Wasserman Kicks A$$! She is very friendly, smart, funny, and a great teacher. She tells you everything you need to know, and how to succeed. I wasnt interested in this class, because I had to take it as an elective...but I really liked it, and will probably take her other class she teaches. A+ instructor.
(TWO WORDS) GREAT TEACHER!
Boring class...but she is funny at times. Exams are ok as long as you study.
If you want to hear about how gay marriage should be legal all day then she is the professor for you. Way too biased and way too open about partisanship.
She is boring, point blank. I wish I didn't take this class!
I did not care about govt when I signed up for this class. Now I actually do. She is smart, provides lots of help personally and on blackboard. If you do the work, you will do fine. She made govt interesting and relevant.
Donna is an excellent teacher. I highly recommend her. Tests were a combination of multiple choice with one essay question. She is a very fair grader if you do the work. There were a lot of whiners in my class who complained, but if you pay attention and do what is asked you will do well. Her class was informative and fun.
Great teacher, she provides study guides for the test, has nice clear power points, and really gets the class involved, if you pay attention, she is a great teacher who is not boring
very professional, providing up to date information and in-depth analysis of the subject
she is really helpful. I had known nothing about the us government before. Donna gave the clear intruction and encouraged to self study. Now I think I have known a lot about politics. Thank for my great teacher.
professional, smart, enjoys teaching her classes - okay if you like lectures every class.
Took online (College On Demand). The DVD lectures show Dr W to be extremely enthusiastic, knowledgable. Ten discussion board postings plus ten homework assignments plus three exams. Make sure to backup postings with fact, examples, cite text or lecture; cannot be simply your unfounded/uninformed opinion. Take and you will learn LOTS from her.
Best online class I have taken at WCC. Told us exactly what we needed to get done every week and had a set plan. Extraordinarily well organized, reasonable demands on the coursework, fair grading. I would highly recommend Donna to anyone.
um...wow..really long boring class...it might help if she changed her tone of voice at least once over the course of 3 hours, but she didn't. We didn't even use the textbook! I would not recommend Mrs. Wasserman
Good teacher, very clear, she does tests on blackboard. Tries her best to get people involved.
I took this course online. I thought the lectures were intersting. The male professor on the videos sometimes put me to sleep but D. Wasserman was intersting. 10 Homework and 10 Discussion Boards Assignaments easy. 3 Tests all fairly easy. Multiple Choice and Essay. Gave good feedback.
Perfectly meets, but does not exceed, expectations laid out in syllabus which she adheres to rigidly.
Dr.Wasserman was an extremely great teacher. She stuck to the syllabus, and was very helpfu. She always tried to make the class more interesting.
I took American Government this winter 09. I could care less about politics and I LOVED this class. Dr Wasserman made class fun with lots of discussions. We had 10 homework assignments. They weren?t hard, worth 10 pts each. 3 Exams, multiple choice with one 25 pt. essay question. She gives you 3 possible essay questions before the exam and 2 of the
Donna is an alright teacher, her class was extremely easy. Consisted of 10 homeworks and three multiple choice exams. She is however, extremely liberal biased. She always rants about how good democrats are, how Obama is the greatest president ever, and how wrong and crooked republicans are. I know its a poly sci class but still!
Donna is a fun professor. I enjoyed the talks in her class. only one test was in class and the other two were take home exams.
She was a great teacher and I really enjoyed her class
Excellent teacher, clear in all instruction, very fair in grading, class was interesting (an online class) and I walked away learning alot about politics.
Mrs. Wasserman makes no secret that she is a liberal teacher, but she often brings the other side into the discussion as well. She gives detailed lecture while encouraging goofy conversation. Definitely a great teacher for PoliSci!
Online class, Lectures were intresting kept me awake, when i emailed this professor i regretted it . I got a dry a rude welcoming into the class which i think affected my whole outlook on the class and the semester .
Was in the same class as user accusing Dr. Wasserman of disliking people of color. This person is way out of line! I recall this person being very naive on the first day and glamorizing the American Govt. System, to which Dr.W simply said don't have illusions. She is a brilliant teacher-had her online for Intro, on campus Campaign and Elections.
Dr. Wasserman is possibly the most brilliant instructor I have had. She facilitates very lively discussion of current events, and makes the material interesting and challenging. She also has a great sense of humor which was a delightful bonus. Taking her Campaigns class in an election year was the best- had so much to discuss. Thanks Dr. W.!
Great online class. Pretty easy. Very thorough. Clear expectations.
very knowledgeable prof. but the lectures were unbelievably boring and the tests were pretty difficult.
I loved her instruction style, very organized and structured (online lectures). Assignments were fairly easy in my opinion. I would highly recommend her to anyone taking this class!
horrible boring teacher
Media and Politics was an excellent class. Dr. Wasserman is highly knowledgeable as well as entertaining. Unfortunately, there was not as much time for current event discussions as in other classes she teaches, but the material covered in M and P was just as interesting. Overall my absolute favorite instructor at WCC!
Not a helpful teacher at all. I like the class overall, but her teaching style and tests are horrible.
It was a great pleasure being a part of her Political Science course. Iâ??ve been fascinated by her method of teaching and her passion for Political Science. Iâ??ve learned a lot about American government. She is a nice person and a great teacher.
I really enjoyed this online class. Prof. Wasserman knows her stuff and makes it clear from the very first lecture. If your not an organized person I wouldn't recommend taking this class online with this Prof. I got an A but if your a knit I would go with a different instructor.
She is very knowledgeable as she has a history of her work in politics and has worked in DC. She doesn't impose her political beliefs on anyone and her lectures are very thorough. I enjoyed class discussions & all exams were open book/notes online even though it was a face to face class. However, it can be hard if you don't study.
Completely awesome. Wonderful, fair, funny and above all, so completely knowedgeable about subject. Take her class!
Cool professor. Classes dragged sometimes. Everything on her tests are on the power points. She gives you 3 possible essay questions and you have one of them on the test. Thats usually worth 30%, thats easy points. Make sure you do the hw, they are easy points as well. Its a little bit of work but if you pay attention its an easy A.Highly recommend
I took a couple of her classes and she is an amazing professor. She knows what she is talking about and is willing to volley an idea into the class and let the discussion flow between the students with her being a moderator. Her exams are okay if you study for them and you have to come to class to understand her powerpoints. An amazing professor!!!
I loved her class! She was always both professional and entertaining. I learned an incredible amount from her.
Tests are not cumulative and are open book online. Wording can be tricky but if you study and have book by your side you'll get an A. Homework is cake. She is passionate and it shows in lectures.
She gives too much information in a short period of time. There are three open book tests with an essay question. You have 70 minutes for 40-50 complex questions and another 40 minutes for the essay. I think you should have more time for the tests. Overall I am not too happy with her teaching style.
I took two classes with Donna while I was at WCC, Politics & the Media and Campaigns & Elections (PLS 250 and 220 respectively). She was one of the best instructors I have ever had (even after transferring to UofM). She is clear and concise, and while she is a hard grader, she is fair. I honestly wish I could take another class with her!
Ms. Wasserman is awesome! My only complaint is that she's far too nice to the students who vomit ridiculous, cringe-worthy questions throughout her lectures. Although, I suppose that's not really a flaw. Anyway, she's really knowledgeable and passionate. The assignments are simple, the readings are interesting, and the tests are open book!
Had her for a Political Science class. Although our views were complete opposite, she encouraged the debate. That merits a lot of respect.
I loved her class! I had no interest in government other than voting on presidential elections, but she taught me that there is so much more I can become involved in. Granted, I had little knowledge of government -my last government class was in high school. I learned something new in every class.
Dr. Wasserman is great at teaching you how to see both sides of an issue; an asset in a political science teacher. Tests were take-home and not too hard if you keep up with the class readings. Many classes featured videos. She is clear about what she expects, gives good comments on papers and tests, and speaks from actual political experience.
The tests in the class are pretty tricky and you should be prepared because they are timed. She's nice just wished the tests weren't as tricky.
If you're not into government the lectures can drag on forever. Overall, she's a really friendly professor who obviously loves political science. A LOT. Passing her class is a piece of cake IF you show up. She deducts points for missing over 3 classes. Exams are online which is always a plus. Do recommend
I took her online intro to american gov class & it was okay. The material for the entire semester is all lined out in the syllabus, which is nice because there are no surprises. There are only three tests/essays, which are okay if you prepare. The online lectures are long & boring and she is a tough grader. Sometimes the homework was confusing.
Dr. Wasserman is a really, really great professor. She is a professor who could give her entire lecture without looking at the powerpoint. She knows EXACTLY what she's talking about and is extremely knowledgeable on the subject! I learned SO much in this class and I'm actually interested in politics now. Highly recommend!
Not clear on requirements to get full credit. Gives up to 15 points in extra credit. Take notes during lectures for essay questions on exams. Limited time on exams - study before! She is incredibly knowledgeable and knows her stuff. Rote memorization will not help - most assignments use critical thinking.
Boring material, but her lectures are interesting. Tests all online and are different than study guides. Pay attention in class.
Contrary to popular belief you go to college to learn and Dr. Wasserman will help you in that. I learned a lot about the U.S. government. She explains and is always available via email. She responds and grades quickly. Lectures online are outdated but the book is new and makes up for the old online modules. WATCHING LECTURES PASS THE TESTS.
Professor Wasserman has so far been an amazing professor and I am really enjoying her class. This is the first online class that my instructor has actually taught in my lectures and I think that is awesome, she explains everything so well and I would take one of her classes again in a heartbeat! Shes lovely!
Conservative students beware! Donna Wasserman's heavy left leaning partisanship is clearly reflected in all of her assignments. She advocates for the disestablishment of key parts of the US Government, and is not shy about it. If you express conservative views or values, you will notice a worrying trend in your grades. Avoid at all costs
Professor Wasserman was incredible! I would 100% take another one of her classes!
Donna is amazing. I loved her Political Science class and she made it so fun and interesting... I loved coming to her class everyday. If you are into current news and politics, this is a great class for you. Donna is understanding and helpful with all questions and work!
What an amazing professor!! I really enjoyed her class and all the in class discussions. Her class really gets you thinking. I hope to take a class with her again.
Defiantly a solid professor. Does a great job bridging the gap between a liberal and conservative perspective. A lot of reading in her classes.
I wish she added quizzes or practice material for this course. All that we did was watch videos and the speaker would get easily side tracked. Only a few discussion boards or assignments, and most of your grade depended on your test score. Good luck taking this class! You will need it!!
I came to the this class nervous and Wasserman really made the class not only doable but fun. You have two take home exams which are based on lectures and readings. Then you have two short five page assignment along with one ten page paper. She can bridge the gap between right and left politics. So long as put an effort passing is easy.
The lectures are long and uninteresting and frankly dont do you any good on the test. Its really hard to follow because they are all over the place and go off topic to stuff thats not on the test. She grades really hard and everything needs to be perfect to her to her beliefs. This class shouldnt be this hard especially for an intro class.
This is the first review on a teacher I have ever written! I did not like her at all! She is a tough grader and she will not give you the opportunity to correct things for a better grade. There is no wiggle room with her at all. She expects you to be experts on the subject. If its not done her way you will lose points or fail. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Do your work, listen and come to lectures, do her readings that she provides and you will have an A. She is very laid back when you are polite and respectful. Dr. Wasserman's lectures are very on point, and she gets you thinking a lot. She does not seem to have a bias for either political party, in fact, she seems to represent them all fairly.
There are a lot of lectures and a lot of reading, and you really do have to do it all! She is not a really tough grader, as long as you complete the entire assignment you will probably get full points. When you email her, she is fairly quick about getting back to you. She is VERY knowledgeable and will help you with anything. She is very kind, too!
I took PLS 112 as an online class. All the lectures were pre recorded from 2005. I found that all the references and topics made it hard to follow some points as it is now 2020. These lectures need to be updated. As far as Dr. Wasserman goes she was very responsive to emails and has strong knowledge on the subject. There are lots of long tests!
This was definitely a great introduction class to political science. It was quite easy and she was a very fair and clear grader on all assignments. The tests were manageable and the homework/discussion board set up was convinent. I also appreciated all of the work being due the same day every week which kept consistency. 100% would take it again
Really wish I could have taken this class in-person. Class was still engaging with discussion board and optional open forum boards. Read the textbook and you will do good.
