This professor blows. She's a really hard marker and has made me want to quit accounting all-together. Her lectures are word-for-word from the text and BORING! If you want to be an accountant, DON'T take this course.

Her lectures are boring but necessary to attend just to get the homework solutions. Don't bother asking her questions in class - she'll confuse you even more BUT, she responds well in emails and face to face after class. Keep on top of the homework & email her your questions and you'll pass.

For those who complain, how bout u show up to class? With he u will know right away what is expected and will do well. Doing homework was the absolute KEY. Her exam review was SO damn close to the exam! Really, show up to her lectures for the homework solutions and you'll ACE! She is great!
BEST Prof for ACC414-Or for any other ACC course. Easy marker-She understands that this course is difficult for students & tries to give students good marks. Tip: Her sample exams before the exams + her verbal tips before exams prove to be very useful.Hope she teaches more ACC courses at Ryerson.
Boring class. i wanted to sleep.
She is very understanding,when it comes to marking. She cannot explain her notes as clearly, because of the language barrier. She encourages self thinking of solutions. Sometimes, she confuses you more than ever. Yet, she tries her best, and makes the course easier. She tries to help as much as she can.
Instructions for assignments were very vague and unclear. Did not respond very clearly to student's questions in class. Fairly easy marker though.
let's face it accounting is quite boring..but she does try to make it bearable! Really, just do the homework and you will ACE the tests...she doesn't ask bogus questions...really, just do the homework...DON'T just copy the solutions and try to memorize, if you can do the homework, you can do the tests!...TRUST ME!
She's the best prof for acc414, she prepares you well and will squeeze marks in where she can. Keep up with your homework and listen to her tips and you should do well...booyeah!

People that actually took accounting before said that even though they did well in the past, she totally confused them & pretty much said they felt sorry for anyone that never taken that class because she's extremely confusing..like me! THe class was totally boring.

Donna is an excellent teacher. She really knows the material well and she tries her best to help the student understand the material. She answers e-mails quickly and she actually teaches! Her tests are fair, as well. However, with that being said, this course is very challenging and YOU MUST do the HOMEWORK! I cannot emphasize this enough. Do work!
Very good prof. She teaches at a good pace, and her marking is extremely fair. Tests are okay, but if practise questions before the tests are given, do them! Answers questions by email quickly, and willing to help after class. Only issue is that she is a little dull, but if you can get around that, excellent instructor for ACC 100.
boringg prof, main reason to go to class is to get solutions and outline for tests, easy marker though, read the textbook and do the questions, and you will do fine
A good prof. She is a little difficult to understand at times because of her accent, but she is very organized and marks reasonably. She isn't afraid or too uptight to give half marks if she sees that you are really trying to get the answer. She teaches by the book with powerpoint, but she really cuts to the chase. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and u will b ok.
Nice lady. A little hard to understand at some times, but overall, very concise. DO THE HOMEWORK, I started to, then stopped, worst thing I have ever done. One of the questions on a midterm was the exact question from the textbook, the only thing changed was the name of the hotel. Oh well.
Very boring but she is an easy marker and she attempts to help students. Overheads are from the CD so just make sure you understand the book and do LOTS of examples.

Worst proff for Acc100 , she may be a easy marker, but if its the first time ur taking accounting you wont understand **** , her explanations are horrible , drop this course now or risk probation!
If english is not your first language DROP THE CLASS, she can barely speak it herself. If your bellcurves don't help your students, thats gotta say something about your teaching methods.

Donna is an amazing professor. She really tried hard to help her students understand the course material. However, this course is extremely challenging and to do well, one must do all the questions and read all the chapters at least twice. The course was tough but I'm glad that I had her teaching me. WORK HARD!!!!

I had never taken accounting before and it definitely made it THAT much harder. This course definitely didn't feel like an intro course at all. She was nice but I could barely interpret her, let alone understand the material. I think it's because she's always mumbling and she seems bored with the course herself. Find another prof.

She is completely useless, and has no idea what she is talking about. Don't bother asking for help. Just follow the text and do the assignments. She is a pretty easy marker, and tests and exam were pretty easy. Alot of time invested though because the whole course is using a computer program. At least five hours a week in the ryerson labs. easy A.
Please learn how to teach before you try to take on a teaching job. Your job is not only reading out the notes or answers without any communication and explanation at all. When a student asked her to go through a question that most of us have problems with, she simply told us to read the answer. Completely a waste of time and money!
I took this course online. The Professor only answered a couple of questions a week no matter how many questions were posted. I recommend never taking an online course with this professor.
I took this course online and found that if you can study independently then Zathy?s class is for you. If you hate it that much switch to Mann?s class and then complain. Zathy is a fair marker and her exams are to the point. I would recommend her over any other Professor, but you still need to keep up and understand the concepts for the final.
WOW...I can't believe how EASY she made the exam...there is NO WAY you can do poorly in Zathy's class-->the test questions (and exam questions) are like the text book questions she solves in class...just with different numbers! Just come to class...and you'll be fine!
The reason why I'm behind in my courses. Worst professor ever. Monotone robot who cracks jokes that you would never would have known otherwise unless she was laughing herself.

Took this class online so I didn't get the teaching experience I get with all my other classes. If you take 514 online it would be helpful to find out if any of ur friends have txtbook solutions. Taking it online is tough, u need to read the book inside out..PP's help too.
Tests are harder than midterm and final. If you take tutoring and actually read the book it'll be a breeze. Her teaching is boring, but at least you can leave early since it's so useless.

It is best to skip her class and teach yourself or you'll be sitting for 3 hrs with only a 2 min break and not really learning anything. It is best to sit in the front row to hear her even though she only teaches through powerpoint presentations. She will walk around class to check your laptop screens to make sure you are taking notes.
Worst teahcer I have had so far. I had to drop this class because she was so unclear. You can't understand her as she speaks under her breath. Her teaching style is pretty bad as well. Recommend you either drop or teach yourself!!

I'll admit she can't teach that well but she is extremely helpful. Like most ACC courses they involve a lot of time and patience. It doesn't get any easier. Read the text, do the hmwk, and ask for help. She picks favourites so get on her good side and you'll enjoy the class a lot more. Go in with a good spirit and you'll be alright.

Pretty hard course. She did a good job of explaining everything thoroughly. She wants to see her students succeed and would love to help them. Make sure u do ur h/w...exam questions are similar to exercises in the book. Would recommend Zathy over Shari Mann ANYDAY. She can talk a lot about a minor problem, but nevertheless, great teacher. Got a B-!

Worst Prof ever, she may want to teach, but doesn't know how to. Do she ask us if we have questions, we know she won't be able to clarify since she obviously has a difficulty with English. Her exams are confusing, since her questions leave room for providing a different answer that what she wanted. Attending her class is PAINFUL
Very approachable, nice, & compassionate. Not the greatest of lecturers. Class is very boring. Suggestion: find full textbook solutions. Time constraint is an issue for test/exam for amount of Q's given. Makes up for this by changing the marking scheme. Course requires more time commitment than 414. Would recommend over other profs teaching this.
She is okay. Class is very dry and boring. The only problem is that she doesn't mark the tests herself. Her TA marks them super hard and strict. It was so bad that she had to bell 20% or so on the second test. Otherwise, she explained the concepts fairly decent.
The BAD: her lectures are not the greatest. Not much to learn from her lectures, you gotta teach your self basically. The GOOD: her tests, assignments, exam are very easy. it resembles the questions in the book, so make sure you do them. she is very generous in terms of marking. no tricks on the exams. I recommend her over Mann!

She doesn't teach very well -> relies heavily on powerpoints. But she IS a very nice person who doesn't actually want everyone to fail. The problem is people take the course to lightly and immediately blame the prof. She's one of the better profs for this course.

I took ACC 414 and 514 with her. She is a great Professor. Always available for help and very accommodating to individual needs. She wants her students to be successful. Definitely recommend to take her classes.

Her tests are fairly straightforward once youve read the book but shes an EXTREMELY HARD MARKER! Somehow I managed to just barely pass all tests and the exam.. if you cant teach yourself I suggest you IMMEDIATELY swap classes.. she tends to read off the slides throughout the entire lecture. Hey at least she gives answers to the homework questions..
Her ability is not enough to teach this course
She is very monotone and tend to read off her slides. It's the worse to have her in the morning because she puts you right to sleep. Honestly, if you read the textbook and ask questions when needed, it's all good.
Honestly, she knows what she's doing. I have to admit it was hard staying awake in her morning classes but accounting is already boring, there's no way to make it interesting. Her midterms are fair, and she is very helpful and clear if you have any questions. Overall, she knows what she's doing and is a nice lady.
Dull, reads off slides, but is a nice woman who is willing to help and is approachable. Not so clear at times but so-so overall. She and Liu are actually generous test givers. 414 requires A LOT of self-studying regardless of who you have (though some profs do add great value in learning experience), so brace yourselves ESP FOR THE LONG FINAL.
Very fair marker, but quite tough to understand. Knows what shes talking about but her monotone voice made it quite a pain to stay awake during a morning lecture. Very approachable for help in or out of class.

Class is very boring, I didn't feel that she was a good teacher. She would go on about content, but we were never really tested on content. She does not put up the answers for the problems in the book. Fair marker, exam was extremely difficult.

Honestly don't listen to the people commenting on Donna Zathy.First,anyone smart can understand her. Second, She is an amazing prof, easy marker, very helpful, goes through many examples. I finsished with an A+ in the course. Sheer warning, if you don't like to study or your lazy don't think in any couse you will get an A. Shes the prof to take!

I got an A+ with her, but gain I studied hardcore. Midterm 1 was hard, Midterm 2 was a joke, and the final was easy but you need to study.
I would rather learn from an automated phone service.. absolutely no expression in her voice, and she takes long pauses between words and sentences which makes it very hard to concentrate on what she is saying for more than 5 minutes. also read directly off of slides that she refuses to post on the internet (amain function of the blackboard system)

One of the worst teacher's I have had, avoid if you can..... She expects that you will teach yourself the material before class, so she only has to come in to answer questions about the homework... Nobody does the homework though, so this is a pointless style of teaching....I come to class to learn, and don't learn anything sitting in her lectures.

The first few weeks were a little rough but after the midterm she started giving the class handouts and walked us through 3-4 problems per lecture. The second half of the course was much easier than the first. Professor Zathy is knowledgeable, very approachable in person and will answer any questions on the material.
I'm sure she's a nice person but she should not be teaching this class. She reads directly off the slides and a few times people asked her questions that she could not answer because it seemed that she didn't know how. Grades were hit hard on the case portion of the midterm because she was unclear about what she expected.
Professor Zathy is a very good professor. she is knowledgeable with the materials, prepare well for the class. It is one of most difficulty courses in Accounting, it is great demand, in order to do well, you will need to spend more than 20 hours per weeek excluding the lecture time. Plase do all the exercises are assigned, ask the prof questions.
Donna Zathy has a great personality. But being a student in her ACC703 class, I learnt close to nothing from her... There should be more teaching, not reading from the slides, and we should actually solve problems in class, not read the solutions off of the slides.

Honestly the worst prof I've had yet. I'm sitting in her class right now and I want to shoot myself. She's difficult to understand.. mumbles when she speaks, has an accent and incredibly monotone! Definitely a self-taught course which requires way more time than any other course you take same semester (aka fin300 gms 401 law122). Shes nice but not a good professor, the good thing is she gives strong hints at problems that will be on midterm and final. I only she could go over some of the entries and calculations when taking them up -_-

Hard to hear or understand. Reads off the slides and reviews the solutions without actually writing something down on the board to see where the numbers are coming from. She prepares you well for what you need to know for the tests, but mostly everything is self taught.
She would tell us to email her if we had any questions, but she would either ignore the emails or take weeks to respond. In addition, as other reviewers have already mentioned, she reads off the lecture slides and the solutions to problems too. Although she is a relatively nice person, I would still avoid her if possible.
Compared to other ACC profs, she's probably the easiest and the most fair grader I've had. She has an accent but if you attend class and read the material you'll be fine. Her tests are straight forward and generally easy.
Since when is reading off Powerpoint and solution manuals considered "teaching"? It seems like that's all she does. Her answers to students questions are confusing. Talks so quiet into her microphone that I cannot hear most of the words she says. Not recommended.

The worst accounting prof I have ever had.
This course is pretty hard and this prof is the THE WORST I have ever had. She is very nice but that doesnt do anything for the student if she doesnt teach. Less than 10% of students come to class because you cant even hear her, she only reads off the slides. I just did self teaching didnt learn a single problem from her. Her midterm was fair.
Professor Zathy is a genuine kind and good teacher. She may read off the ppt slides and solution manuals to solve the problems but she is a FAIR marker.Her tests are fair and based off problems she solves in class so do those. This is one of Ryerson's hardest accounting courses so thorough studying is essential.
Postive: A good person.She will give you strong hints about questions what you can expect on exam. Exams are fair. Fair marker. Negative: She does not teach anything in the class.She reads of the slides and do not use board to explain any problem. Most of the time you can not hear what she is saying.
Pros: tests aren't too hard - usually if you can do the exercises in each chapter you are okay. Cons: lectures are boring and slow, she just reads PPTs and solution manual. Bring your book and work through the questions yourself to absorb the material. ACC 514 is a huge course with many new topics so self-study is required to succeed.

this teacher does not post answers to the problems that you're expected to do! this is a huge negative because you don't know if you did the question right and the textbook does not come with answers at the back. explanations where not very clear and I had to learn 95% of the stuff on my own, despite attending every lecture. avoid.

Accounting is difficult and some people need to be taught the material. This prof only reads the slides. I felt helpless and struggled to learn even one thing each lecture. Please do yourselves a favour and take it with another prof!!!! Best of luck!

Don't bother going to class. She basically reads of the slides and does some textbook examples. Use the time to go over the material on your own so you can work at your own pace.

She is an awful prof, she doesn't speak into her microphone and has a thick accent so during lectures nobody knows what she is saying. She is no help whatsoever and does not prepare you for the exams at all. SWITCH OUT IF POSSIBLE!!!
This proffesor does not know how to teach. You will have to learn everything on your own, ACC100 wasn't that hard, but it would've been easier if she would actually explain the concepts and went over examples more clearly. Switch out if you can, she's kinda scary
Please avoid this professor at all costs, she basically talks to herself at the front of the classroom while the class has a seperate coversation. Explanations and the entire lectures are not very useful at all, learn it by yourself or online.

Unnecessarily rude to students who ask reasonable questions in class. Exams were very difficult compared to other profs and she does not post any past midterms or practice tests.

Easiest and best accounting professor...
Talks to her podium herself all of class, class size went from like 60 people to 20 people in a couple weeks. Seems like a nice lady just should definitely not be a teacher or anything related to speaking to lots of people. However her midterm was not very hard and she marks relatively easily. Would recommend not taking her class.

It is difficult to understand her so going to class is a waste of three hours. The two tests and final are not too hard if you follow along the powerpoint she posts and practice some questions from the textbook.
Really good professor that takes up the answers from the book, but you still have to learn all the content on your own. First midterm was difficult, 2nd midterm was easy and the final exam was also easy and was a combination of both midterms and an extra chapter. Gives part marks for everything you write unlike other professors. Easy 75+ with her

If you're not the type that can't learn on their own, she's not the professor for you. If you take her class, go in knowing that you'll be learning on your own. She takes up many problems each week using the most current textbook, so that's helpful. Her first test may catch you off guard if you haven't prepared. Very straightforward final however.

Please avoid this professor at all costs, she basically talks to herself at the front of the classroom while the class has a separate conversation. Explanations and the entire lectures are not very useful at all. She is SO BORING. AVOID.
She's nice and will help if you ask questions. Monotone and speaks pretty low even when she is using a microphone. The course is difficult and I don't blame her, after all she doesn't make the exams. Just read the book and do the practice questions and you will probably end up with a decent mark.
Although Donna's presentations can be un-engaging and long-winded, she can be very helpful if you approach her before or after class with questions. Attending class probably isn't that important since the course is designed for you to read the chapter before attending, however, the simple iClicker quiz's must be done in-class and are worth 10%.
She's really boring in the lectures, theyre really long, but you have to go because you need the clicker marks. The exams are straight forward and the aplia really helps so do it! I found this an easy class if you try.
Pretty nice professor and only wants you to pass, but will make you work for it. She has iclicker tests every class and those add up to 10% of your final mark. Ask for help and pay attention. Never opened the textbook since everything you need to know is posted for you online, do readings before class and you will ace the course no question.

I am so unbelievably sad that I wasted so much money on a class I had to drop because the professor is terrible. She reads numbers off during the lecture which is poorly attented because she is unclear and no help whatsoever. She is a tough grader. Please do yourself a favour and DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. She doesnt even deserve a 1.
she is the worst professor i have ever had. Had her for acc100 and 406 and both times were equally bad. No way can u possibly learn acc406 all by yourself which is literally what she expected us to do. Honestly can't even believe shes been hired as a professor. One time she came 20 mins late during the midterm smelling like a pack of cigs -_-
I attended most classes but realized that I was wasting my time. I found her to be unclear and not very helpful. I ended up having to teach myself most of the course which made the course a lot more difficult than it should have been! I would not recommend this professor unless you have a tutor or are good at learning on your own.

Questions are answered with long and lengthy explanations and often don't answer the question. There were times where an error was made but it took half the class for her to get that we were pointing it out. The course itself requires reading before class, and she gives you a lot of flak if you don't. Her accent is also hard to understand at times

Very knowledgeable about accounting material but does a very poor job of relaying that knowledge to her students. Monotonous, boring, and even antagonized students from time to time. Lectures added little value so the textbook was my best friend. Test and exam material isn't hard though assuming you read the chapters and do the practice questions.

iClicker quiz every class, meh they're pretty easy, counts for grading. Insists that you understand the concept, yet you may not. Not organized, she was 10 mins late to final exam. The book is provided in the course content, but most of the answers need to be modified or completely wrong. Got a good grade, cuz I did the work properly.
Videos online are very helpful. Anticipate teaching yourself the concepts. Grading is reasonable and expectations are clear.

Overall, I can't complain... I finished the course with an A, but that was purely due to reading the book over and over again. She's nice and if you forget your iClicker at home, she'll let you hand in the quiz on paper, but unless you can self teach yourself, she won't do you any good.
When you ask her something she mumbles the answer to her self. In fact, she mumbles the entire lecture to herself. She never answers the question a student asks and is quite rude so flattery may help in dealing with her. she's an embarrassing excuse for a professor and embarrassing to Ryerson as a university. Must've had connections for this job.
Though she's very boring, she's a decently fair grader. ACC 100 is a heavy course to begin with. Hence, If you don't read the textbook and try the practice problems you're most likely not going to do so hot. Midterm and exam were fair. Iclicker quizzes before every class (easy marks if you read the textbook before class) which you can do in group.
Donna does not get the credit she is due on this. She goes through a chapter each class in detail, and will spend a majority of the time answering and solving textbook questions. Her midterms are very easy, IF* you actually do the questions she tells you to focus on! She will go through any question in detail if you ask her. Take her class!
She is overall a good prof. It is important to attend every class, as this is a course that can be difficult to understand. Her lectures are really good and really explains the content well that you don't have to read the textbook. You must do your homework in order to do good in this class, a lot of the homework questions are similar to the test.
Amazing Prof. Will clarify or help you if you have any problems. Attending class is a must because she goes through the work step by step. Very approachable, cares about the success of her students.

She's very patient, friendly, and means well. She understands the material she teaches, but *does* sometimes get confused or explain something wrong, which can confuse students who are new to the subject. I'd recommend taking her if you have had a little background in accounting prior to the course. Still, there have been new acc ppl who got 75%+
Acc at Ryerson is such a course where you will have to read before class, the prof is really good. she knows her content and super at teaching. She does not like being asked questions, however when asked she answers them well. Would take again!
This prof is okay if you read the textbook before lectures. She does go over textbook questions in class, however her explanations are sometimes confusing. She doesn't tell you the format of the midterm or final and lectures are usually the full 3 hours. Material itself is pretty boring, but if you read the textbook you should be fine.
Donna is amazing, she knows her material well and will always answer your questions. Course is heavy material wise but Donna makes it really fun and easy to learn. You have to read the lectures before the class for a small in-class quiz but reviews the lecture and goes through a lot of examples. Exams are predictable and are forgiving when marking
Her classes are straight-forward and easy to follow. She only goes over practice questions and does not actually teach the material herself. If you are prepared by reading the content before class you will be just fine! There is also a bit of self-teaching involved, but if you have minimal knowledge of acc you'll still do well. Overall, good prof!
She mainly uses her lecture time to do questions but if you pay attention, they're helpful - so if you're not a fan of reading the textbook like me, make sure you do them with her. Had her twice and she's a great prof once you follow her teaching style. Her exam/test reviews will prepare you well so DO THEM!!!
How to ace the course: BE PREPARED FOR EACH CLASS! That means studying the chapter and doing some of the end chapter practice questions before class. Going to lecture is mandatory for the easy iClicker questions (worth 10% of grade), and homework answers. The midterm is FAIR, but the exam is HARDER - you must know/understand EVERY concept taught!
Zathy is not that great of a prof especially if you didn't take accounting in high school. Her lectures are tedious and are mandatory as there are in class quizzes which are pretty easy depending on who you work with. I would recommend watching Else's online accounting tutorials to do good in this course.
She knows the material but is not able to teach properly. She presents the material as if she's teaching herself and doesn't even answer questions properly. A classmate asked a question about liabilities 3 times, the prof said something about iclickers each time and the question was left unanswered. Time stands still in that class. Don't take it.
The textbook doesn't actually teach concepts, neither does she. The textbook & her class is all practice questions and scenarios. Unless you learn the topics before class, you're totally lost. May as well learn the concepts online, and use the "textbook" for it's practice questions
Donna is an overall good choice. I learned the whole course by myself and went to class to see if my answers were correct. She uses lecture time to take up questions so make sure you read before. The textbook was free and easy to understand. Midterm and final were both fair. You don't need to attend class unless you want to go through problems.
It's best to read ahead and do the practice questions prior to going to her lectures. She gives a super quick summary of the chapters. She really values those who answers her questions, and will have a soft spot for you. If you ask her questions, prepare to have lots of patience and ask multiple times before she understands what you're asking.
Just a really annoying teacher. Takes forever to answer a question and doesn't really teach anything. Learning from other professors videos and basically self teaching myself.
Out of all the professors I have had at Ryerson, she is so far the worst that I have ever encountered. After she screwed half her class with not telling them they would have to get 100% on an Academic Integrity quiz to do the first quiz worth 10%, I knew I wasn't gonna make it out alive. Lectures suck too, had to watch other profs lectures. SWITCH!
Terrible. Midterm was 83 questions.... So scared for the exam cause its worth 40 percent and she didn't teach anyone anything. It's almost like Ryerson shoved us to the deep end when they assigned her as a teacher for Accounting.

Funny to me how the last few reviews are bashing Zathy... they aren't wrong at all though just funny to me cause I did not think so many people felt the same way. Do not take her class, switch out if you have to. You'll learn nothing from her.
I know most of these reviews are negative (justly so), but... I don't know what happened now. She was my worst prof at the start of the year, but all of a sudden, she did a UNO reverse on me. She became a lot kinder, she will answer any question you ask (no matter how stupid), & she actually seemed to like her students. That's my honest opinion.

She always stops to make sure the class understands, didn't have to buy a textbook its provided for you, but lectures aren't the most interesting, and they're pretty long.
DO NOT TAKE. Talks for three hours straight and is extremely boring. Just text on slides and you have to teach yourself a lot. Her accent can make it difficult to understand sometimes. Randomly raises her voice and just shouts sometimes. No textbook necessary. Weekly graded quizzes, super quizzes, midterm, and a final.
Denies the final exam to students who don't complete her ethics quiz before the exam (I was ill).
Sure, you'll get denied the final exam if you don't complete an ethics quiz, but it's MAD EASY, 10 days and 10 attempts, I finished it in 1 min + 1 attempt. It's basic common sense stuff. I understand why there is no leniency surrounding access to the exam because there's no excuse to not get the ethics quiz done.
You're have to self learn a lot of the course. The lectures aren't really that helpful. Make sure to do the Academic Integrity Quiz or you wont have access to the midterm or final. She does provide enough content, textbook, modules and solutions to do well though! Just make sure you understand all the problem sets, the concepts and solutions.
Accounting is hard but she gives good resources and I believe she rounded up my grade so I'd pass the class
Lectures can be tedious, but this professor is open to questions. The ethics quiz is a breeze. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for study prep - highly recommend.
