AVOID. Is so unclear in her lectures on what she actually wants us to learn. She'll tell you something isn't important and it will end up an essay question on your test. Puts so many check all that apply questions and gives no partial credit on them. If you have the option of another teacher take the other teacher
DO NOT TAKE! She is the most confusing professor you will ever have. Even though she allows a notecard, it is pointless because she is so unclear and test questions are unfair (no partial credit for check all that apply and very picky on short answer). You wont learn anything because she's so unclear and goes into more detail than other professors
DONT take. She is extremely unclear & goes on rants often when a student asks a simple question (yet her rant has no point because she's freaking confusing). Even though you get a note card, the tests are tough because she asks super specific and unimportant info (no partial on check all the apply and takes points of unfairly for short answers).
Not helpful at all and is not welcoming to questions. If you ask her a question she will ask you questions back instead of simply answering and will give you a nasty look if you don't understand something in class. Felt like I was being attacked every class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This professor was incredibly confusing, condescending, and over the top. She is unclear in her expectations and is inconsistent in her grading. She tends to attack her students for asking questions, and kills your grade. I really love microbiology, but I dreaded going to her lab.
I cannot even express my anger with this class. Horrible grader. Will never give you full credit on a short answer. You will learn nothing. If you get an 89.99999 as your final grade she WONT round it up to a 90 which is just evil
This professor is one of the worst I've ever had. Although she may be nice outside of class, beware of her in the classroom. If you're not on her good side you're screwed. If you're on her good side, you're still not safe. She was unfair on many occasions, letting her personal issues with students affect the way she teaches and grades. Don't do it
She gets overwhelmed frequently and enjoys questioning the competence of her students on the daily. Her tests are pretty straight forward except for a few "what's happening" questions. Not really helpful. You always feel like you're fending for your life while in her lab. She means well and is truly passionate about micro, but not a great professor
She's condescending and absolutely horrible sometimes. I felt bullied and scared to ask questions. Outside of class and once you pass, she's so nice. But in class, she's the worse
Great professor, willing to answer all questions in class. lectures were clear and exams were fair.
Graesser was very good at lecturing but when it can to exams she was very bad at letting you know what was on them. She is very passionate about her job and is respected by her students.
Does not care about students. Very condescending. Rude, unapproachable, has favorites. Do not take this class with her. Avoid at all costs. Waste of my parents money for sure.
Honestly don't know why she has such bad reviews. I think she is a good professor. 4 exams (on blackboard), 1 final (take-home usually), 10 online quizzes, 2 MMWRs. Uses a point system to grade, so there are no weights. She genuinely wants her students to do well and is always available to meet with.
good professor, wants her students to do well. always available outside of class if needed.
I also have no idea why her reviews are so bad. I really enjoy her class and she tells you exactly what to study! If you do not do well on an exam, she tries to come up with ways to gain the points back. My other friends in the other professor that has a 4.8 rating are doing worse than I am in the same class!
Honestly she was very nice and would tell you what was important things to study for exams. The class is out of a point system so it is easier to get A's and B's. She is very approachable and gives extra credit. There is weekly quizzes on line as well. I got an 80, 77, 66, 85, 85 on my tests and still got an B+ in the class. Doesnt take attendance
Professor Graesser is my favorite teacher I've had at Quinnipiac. She truly cares about her students so much, is always accessible via email and office hours to help you with what you need. She wants you to do the best you possibly can, she lays out what is important in her lectures, they're very clear and simple. She is an outstanding professor
Teacher is absolutely underrated, she's very easy going, there are 4 tests, weekly quizzes, MMWR assignments and extra credit opportunity at the end. Really easy going, she specifically tells you which slides are important on the powerpoint. She's one of the sweetest teacher and is truly understanding. She makes microbiology easier
One of the sweetest professors I have ever met. She really tries to make the material as easy to understand as possible, and is always willing to work with her students. Gives extra credit.
She is tough, but fair. The lectures are always clear, and the best part is her "5 star" system, which she drives home the concepts that are important for studying. Tests require not just regurgitation, but you really need to know the material. She made microbiology my BEST CLASS EVER!
People give her bad reviews but that's because they hate actually working for their grade. If you do the work and listen to her lecture you'll pass no problem.
She rambles, she gets sidetrack easily. She is disorganized, pointless slides she never get rid off. She does not flow into the material but jumps around constantly. Her wording for quizzes and test are confusing and not straight forward. She comes too late to class, and procrastinate for 15 minutes of the time. She makes the class difficult.
She is the best person. She really cares about her students. She gives you three days you can pick to take the exams and you get a notecard you can copy paste all the notes onto. There is a lot of extra credit and assignments to balance it out. The exams are difficult. You have to take notes in class because its notes based. Best Micro Professor.
Professor Graesser is one of the best professors at quinnipiac hands down. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. Shes always available to answer questions and help students . She offers many extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. However, the exams and quizzes are very difficult and require you to attend lecture.
Professor Graesser will hold you to a high standard. One of the most challenging labs I have ever had the honor to take. I did a lot of work, but Professor Graesser guided us through everything. If you want an easy A, don't take this course. If you want to learn micro and prepare yourself for medical school, then Prof. G. will be there for you!
You will find that she can be scatter brained and disorganized. If you can take a bit of control of understanding what is expected and communicate with her you will find that she is fair--gives compensation if she screws up. If you are concerned about your grade she is probably the prof to take. lots of bonus points, a note card for exams.
Dr. Graesser is a really great professor. She'll challenge you, but it's possible to due well. She's very helpful and willing to provide clarifications. Definitely take her!
Class was all over the place. Most of us were failing the whole time. Tries to give extra credit, but it barely does anything to raise the overall grade. This class put so much stress on me throughout the semester. It took so much out of me. The most stressful thing I ever had to do in my entire life.
She was overall a fine professor, never had trouble with the material. Stressful in terms of grading. Argued with her multiple times. She was rude. But other times she was super nice and caring. Have to catch her on a good day I guess. Extra credit was offered!
For a one credit lab class, I have never done so much work. So many quizzes and assignments. I definitely learned a lot but it felt like I was doing work for this class all week because the due dates were spread out. Dr Graesser likes to chat but is flexible and empathetic. She gives clear answers. She could answer any question you might have.
Id like to give her the benefit of the doubt and say my negative experience was due to the pandemic stress but im not totally sure. She is nice most of the time and gives off the impression she cares and is available to help. However when you ask questions or email she will get mad and embarrass you in front of the whole class. Not the best.
Worst class I've ever dealt with. She is only willing to help you if she likes you or if she feels like it. Way too much work for a 1 credit, especially during finals week. Get ready to set your finals aside to do unnecessary work for her class. Gives bad grades for absolutely no reason and doesn't care that we are in a pandemic and have other work
Very difficult and unfair grader, depends on her mood that day. Would often show up to class flustered and disorganized. Gave multiple 3-4 hour long assignments during finals week and graded them very harshly saying I "clearly did not put in the work others had" when I had spent 4 hours on the assignment to make sure it was good. Not understanding.
Tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because She herself is super sweet & in the beginning the assignments were understandable but as the semester went on she became more and more difficult with grading and was not helpful in the slightest with questions students had . She is a very harsh grader and won't give partial credit. don't recommend
Do not take Prof. Graesser. She does not care if you have a learning disability that affects performance in the class such as online assignments. Extremely impatient and thinks shes trying to help just if you show up to her office hours.
Prof. Graesser is a mixed bag when it comes to professors. She clearly strives to be respectful, fair, and helpful, and though she is, she also manages to be inpatient, sometimes condescending, and even downright rude or aggressive at times. Overall, though, as an educator, she does an excellent job of communicating expected course material.
Dr. Graesser has the potential to be a great professor. She explains the material throughly and her tests are fair for the most part. When it comes to post-lab assessments she's a very tough grader and is condescending to her students. She would humiliate certain people and announce their grades and accommodations. Do not take her.
I know Quinnipiac chooses Micro/ micro lab profs for you (especially in nursing) but, if you get professor G. do ANYTHING u can to switch out. easily the most irrational and frustrating teacher I have ever had. Every other review about her on this page is correct. During the semester you'll see how easy other classes have it compared to hers.
Dr. Graesser's class is a very challenging class and she can give you some trouble sometimes but if you put in clear effort she witnesses that and will keep it in the back of her mind. There are a lot of challenging assignments but she isnt really as bad as everyone makes her seem.
The entire microbiology department at Quinnipiac needs to be fired and rehired. They are all awful BUT as a senior I have never come across a professor who is such a tough grader! No matter how much effort you put in you will not get full credit. She is so nit picky and particular. She also talks way too much and wastes class time. So much work
Class wasnt hard but lots of assignments every week which were long, but no exams. Attendance isnt mandatory but she gets mad when only 5 students show up & gives them "attendance bonus points" & puts questions on assignments that pertain to things she only said in class. U can prob take her but beware she is unhelpful & doesnt care about students
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. SHE IS A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR, discriminates against students, makes them cry, and shows up to class sick. Really not helpful if you have an issue or need help. Very rude and not understanding.
Horrible teaching style she reads off a powerpoint . Gives out hours of hw that is only open on the weekend for a day or 2. Although there is not any tests, she makes weekly group assignments with extremely challenging questions. I would not mind the challenge if she actually taught. Dont use her lectures or shell report you for plagiarism Fire her
Graesser had a lot of homework but it is very clear what work is due. The class now has no exams except for an optional final. She is a really good lecturer with useful PowerPoints. As long as you stay on top of your work and try you'll do fine. Take advantage of all the extra credit. Beware of plagiarism cause she will report you to AI.
I don't know why everyone is complaining about this professor. One of the best I have ever had. Engaging lectures that really matter to your major and very accessible at literally any time of day outside of class. No exams!! If you listen in class and stay on top of the assignments and do the extra credit you should get an A in the class.
Dr. Graesser made microbiology an incredible! No in-class exams. Everything open book at home. Can work in groups or independently on assignments. Course is dense with material but she keeps you on pace with weekly assignments and never the stress of an exam. I could explore microbiology, really understand it without pressure.
worst professor ever, dont ask for help what so ever she will just make you feel stupid. I think being rude to students make her sleep better at night. I feel bad for her actual children they are going to be messed up for life after having her as a mother
I got an A in anatomy and anatomy lab and now I am failing this class thats supposed to be way easier. shes literally so rude and talks bad about other students. cant wait for this class to be over literally the worst professor I've ever had at quinnipiac. if you want to get yelled at every week then take her.
Literally reads off the powerpoints and exams are confusing. Will be rude to you and doesn't care about your lives outside of class even if you are sick. Don't ever take her.
Attendance is not mandatory but you NEED to go, she gives tidbits and facts that are not on the PowerPoint but are in the exam. She is haphazard and not super organized, but I am learning a lot without doing a ton of work outside of class. She knows a lot about microbiology and the lectures are interesting. Make sure you pay attention.
Graesser should not be a professor. She is very smart and knows her stuff, but is awful when it comes to actually teaching students. She makes you feel like an idiot if you ask her to restate something or ask a simple question.I ended up almost failing because she was so hard to approach and was the toughest grader I've ever had.Want my money back!
Allowed cheating
If I could give her a 0 I would. The most degrading, disrespectful, unkind person I have ever met in my life. Is not accessible outside of class, gives students whatever grade she wants not the grade they actually received, is racist and derogatory towards students. She made the class absolutely miserable for me. She needs to be fired IMMEDIATELY!
What I liked about Dr. Graesser is how clear and organized the class is. Microbiology is a hard subject-- no denying that. Her mini exams were not always easy, but we were allowed to work on them with our friends, so there was joint brain power in answering the questions. Come to class and you will do well. Nice person & fair professor.
I thought this class was pretty easy, but took a lot of time. Exams were fair. There were a lot of extra assignments to build up the grade. Dr. G is busy, but always met with me on zoom in the evenings. She was my lecture professor but helped me with lab assigments as well. She knows microbiology inside-and-out, and really cares about students.
If you have no other options, Graesser isn't a terrible professor. You have four exams & one is the final. She gives an okay amount of extra credit. Her exams are hard. Exams are open resource. She says everything on the PowerPoints are on the exam, but when the time comes around it's not there. You can do horribly and still pass but very stressful
Take Graesser if there's no other option. Even if you do horribly on the exams the homework and extra credit assignments will boost your grade by a lot. She's rude and isn't great at teaching. Exams are open resource but nothing on the PowerPoints' are on the exam. It is impossible to learn the necessary information for the exams. Good luck!
This course was incredibly hard for something that shouldn't be. She has 4 exams and a movie assignment. The exams are impossible, they are open book but have nothing to do with the PowerPoint, studying is useless. On top of that hard grader and so uptight about students cheating.
I had a tough time in this class the first time and didn't pass. I repeated the course and Dr. Graesser invested her time in me every day, and I came out with an A-. No other professor has ever done this for me. She didn't discount me because I failed once, but saw the potential in me and helped me succeed. She even helped me with anatomy.
There is so much extra credit you could basically fail and still pass the course. I put in the time, learned tabout microbiology, asked for help when I needed it, and Dr. Graesser was very receptive and helpful. I struggled in other science courses but Dr. G made this one a breeze
I am never one to write a bad review but Dr. Graesser is an exception. She is an extremely harsh grader and can be very rude. She can talk down on you and make you feel stupid for asking a question. She does have a "funny" side that comes out sometimes, but generally she is very serious and strict. If you have the option, take another professor.
HORRIABLY AVOID!!! straight A student and almost failed. The school gets complaints every year and does nothing about it, but they know she's an issue. For example, asking questions for one of the project costs u points off your grade, you get "1 free question" like what . JUST DONT TAKE
Do not take. Very rude.
Graesser is simply not good as a professor or as an advisor. Says controversial things and gives out horrible grades for work that I put a lot of effort into.
Goodluck. She is the most disrespectful professor I have ever had. She is incredibly considerate and biased. Most of all, she does not have clear grading criteria, nor does she have clear directions for anything she asks. Her post labs are even worse since you have to write down everything, she says in class to maybe do well. Avoid her at all cost.
Dr. G is a clear grader/clear with what she expects. MANY extra credits assignments can really improve your grade. The post labs were the most difficult. Read the instructions on the post lab and ONLY answer what is asked, no extra info. Don't be afraid to ask questions even if you get a "tough" response back. I don't agree with other poor reviews.
Excellent class and professor. She walks you through holding your hand at first so you have a good foundation-- by the end of the class you are doing a lot independently. I've never enjoyed a lab course more- everything makes sense, everything is interesting, and you learn real-world skills. Highly recommend taking this lab with Dr. Graesser.
Do yourself a favor and do not take BMS213 with Graesser. Her tests are impossible because she asks about material that are not on the slides and random details. Her lecture is much more difficult than the other professors. TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR!!!! I get A's in all my other classes, she is just horrific and does not actually teach.
DO NOT take this professor. Taking her now for BMS213L & class, she is such a harsh grader. It is a completely online class where we are only learning from the textbook, & she is asking questions on the tests that we have never learned. She gladly hands out bad grades.
Open note exams but will test you on things not found in the course materials. She is an extremely hard grader and WANTS her students to fail. She will take off points from exams and the project for everything. DO NOT TAKE.
The worst professor I have ever had. I do not understand wanting your students to do poorly.
I decided to take her in the summer. BIG MISTAKE. She is a very harsh grader, especially on the exams. She did give us extra credit opportunities, but I would recommend not taking her. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to take her for a whole semester.
This lab online was one of the hardest labs I have ever done. There are weekly lab activities and exams (which are open notes),, as well as a project near the end, which is so hard for no reason. I could never find the answers in the given course material. Don't take her, save your grade!!!
Her tests will ask “tell me what the color of the sky is”. You can answer “the sky is blue” and she will take all points away and state “I only asked for a color.” This class and professor have made me question my sanity. I'm an A student with a 4.0 and I have never struggled this terribly in a class.
I truly hope no student has to experience Dr. Graesser's lab. She creates an environment where you choose not to ask questions when you are confused because you worry about me mocked and judged. I walked into exams feeling confident and ready and walked about feeling demoralized and distressed. I hope this lady changes her tune but for now AVOID.
Dr. Graesser has truly been one of the worst professors/individuals in my entire life. I am a 4.0 student and have never had a negative experience with a professor at Quinnipiac university until Dr.G. She is rude, unstable, unprofessional, and fosters a hostile learning environment. Best advice is minimal interaction. DONT LET HER PUSH YOU AROUND!
Worst professor I've ever had at this school, and the bar is so low. She is rude and inappropriate. I was scared to ask questions depending on what mood she was in. I am a 4.0 student and received constant 50s on post-labs because she will literally take off points for anything and ask questions far beyond course material. AVOID!!!!
I asked her a simple yes or no question, she gave me a 10 minute speech and then basically told me I wasted her time! She talks to people as if they're in middle school and kind of gets shy when you defend yourself when she's being disrespectful. I didn't even want to rate her a 1, they just don't have a negative number listed here.
Grasser truly makes you wonder what you're paying for and where your tuition is going. She is extremely disrespectful even when you go out of your way to be nice to her. Make sure to write down everything she says because it will most likely end up as an exam question even if it's not in the notes. Save yourself the stress and never ask questions.
Many people don't like her and admittedly, while she is a good lecturer, she will stress you out and make you miserable if you take her. That being said, you do learn a lot due to the challenging, extensive nature of her exams, and while she can come off as rude and embarrass you in front of the class, she does have a good side to her.
Honestly when you read other ratings you see a lot of bad ones. She isnt that bad. Test were open book open note, final was collabrative. The tests were hard, but if you take good notes and study like the test would be closed book then you will be fine. She gives extra credit if you show up to class, so just go.
The exams are open book but extremely difficult and can not be done well with an hour to take them because they are all trick questions. I felt like a failure because I was learning but could not perform well on those tests to save my life. Try to take someone else for lecture, if there is no one else available, just be prepared for difficulties.
I have heard that this was a difficult course, which it was, but if you take the time to connect with her in the beginning and show you want to succeed, she is much more understanding and willing to help. She does give some extra credit opportunities, but her exams can be extremely difficult if you dont pay close attention.
Awful "professor" if you can call her that. She grades like her goal is to make you fail. She is a miserable person and she is just straight rude to all of her students and to other professors. She wont answer any questions and if you don't know something, forget it because she wont answer your questions.
I cannot stress enough NEVER take this professor under any circumstance. Very rude and condescending with a horrible attitude. A very harsh grader meaning you can get the answer right but depending on how she is feeling that day it could be marked incorrectly. Seemed to enjoy handing out bad grades, probably the rudest person I have ever met
This professor is very difficult, I barely got an A, it was near impossible. Her grading is almost mood dependent, and exam questions don't align with class material. when not teaching she seemed pleasant to talk to. I almost never asked questions as she gave harsh, condescending responses back. for 1 credit, it was not worth the effort I put in.
