Ah, yes! The dreaded speech class! Well let me tell you, it's not as bad as you think if you take Dr. Kirk's class! His instructions are clear, he is encouraging, and he and your classmates will brighten your day. Yes, you will have to put forth some effort. But the more effort you put in, the more you will take away from it! Thanks Dr. Kirk!

I dreaded this class at the beginning but it was really a great experience. The way the course is laid out really helped to connect the students in the class. Dr. Kirk is funny, informative, encouraging and supportive. Not only did I gain the skills needed for public speaking but a huge confidence boost!

Dr. Kirk is amazing. He is a tough teacher only because he wants you to to be the best you can be. He doesn't grade you by how "perfect" you are but how hard you try. He takes in consideration that everyone's different. He is open minded and always gives constructive criticism. He is truly the best Professor I have ever had. I recommend him!

His teaching style works really well as he includes a variety of activities mixed in with a bit of lecture so that the students stay involved and are continually participating. This has been one of the most enjoyable classes that I have taken and I would definitely take it again!

Cool dude, sends tons of emails in between class meetings to make sure you remember what is due. There were a few occasions where I had forgot about an assignment and was saved by his email reminders. He makes public speaking fun. I really was not expecting a speech class to be this fun or easy.

Best public speaking experience I ever received in my entire life. We did had lots of public speaking but it was just to ease our confidence in front of mass no. of people. Great class, loved it.

No one ever really wants to take Public Speaking - whether you have speech anxiety or not, but this class will always be the exception. Loved Dr. Kirk, loved how he ran the class, love how he made all of the students get to know each other in a non-typical kind of way. Makes learning fun again!

Dr. Kirk makes his classes so fun for students. He is very helpful with any situations that come up and always makes sure everyone is included in classroom activities. Grading criteria is good. I love that he offers so much extra credit, even with quizzes over reading the chapters (which you're suppose to do). I can say his class was my favorite!

I would definitely recommend this class if you need to take speech. There were a few weeks of warm-up exercises before your first big speech. Also, there were not any long boring lectures. Be prepared to do work; as long as you show up and try you'll get a good grade. Because the earlier class had fewer people enrolled, I felt it was more relaxed.

Dr. Kirk is an amazing professor who tries to make the class entertaining and meaningful for everyone. His class is not that difficult, you just have to make sure you put in the effort for each presentation. He is lenient, and makes the classroom environment very easy to get comfortable in. Completely dreaded this class even before it started. Just the thought of speaking in front of everyone was stressful, but as time went by, this class ended up being my favorite. Speeches are easy as long as you follow the instructions exactly. There are three written tests but they are based on the book. Short quizzes over the chapters, that are easy as long as you read.

I really thought that I would hate this class because it involved speaking in front of others, but with a few inspirational words I got through it.

Professor Kirk has now become one of my favorite teachers. Everyone has always said good things about him so now I'm glad I took his course. It was a fun, bearable class to take at 8 in the morning. Because of him, I have started opening up and not as scared to talk to people or in front of a crowd. Defiantly will recommend him to students.

You get to actually interact with people you don't really know and get to know them. You get to improve and practice on interaction and personal skills. He has a smart ass aura about him to lighten the mood, but always involved and willing to help with any projects or questions.

As a first semester student over at Vernon College, Professor Kirk's course has eased the transition into Vernon. Professor's Kirk hands-off approach in regards to assignments make students be as creative as they can be in regards to showing off their story. Overall Mr. Kirk was a good teacher, his class is sociable so you will need to get used to talking among other students in class. A very great professor! I was very worried coming in to this mandatory public speaking class that I would not have taken of my own free will. My opinions changed very quickly. Dr. Kirk made the class fun and really helped me overcome some of my fears when it comes to public speaking. He made a class most people dread into a fun experience!

Yes, there is quizes and test. He lets you use the book for one test. The quizes are easy as long as you read the chapter you are suppose to. He is hilarious and great to be around. There is a lot of group projects which are interesting. He makes you do the work but will not fail you, you are the only one that determines a passing grade or not.

All in all he has just been an awesome teacher to have.

I enjoyed this class. He made us work and communitcate with others, which is not something I enjoy, but I was still very impacted by this class and learned a lot about certain speeches but also a lot about myself. I highly recomend this professor. Funny because I was recommended to take him by an individual who took him almsot 10 years ago.

Kirks way of teaching is better than most. I had a speech class in high school that cannot compare to his. Its a hands on course thats very interactive with little amounts of lecture time. Thats what makes it stand out to me, this class will keep you on your toes and never gets boring.

If you have the chance to take Dr. Kirk for speech, DO IT! he is amazing! As long as you care about being in class and being respectful by paying attention, he will help you in any way you can!

More activities than lectures, which is a nice change of pace. The speech topics chosen are interesting and way more fun to speak on than in other classes I've taken.

Kirk clearly cares about the course and course content. I liked the hands-on activities in class. I liked that we had the opportunity to work on upcoming speeches in class. I learned a lot about myself, my career, and I learned a lot about my peers. This was a course that I initially thought would be simple. Challenging and rewarding experience!

Thanks to this class, I have actually improved significantly as a public speaker in addition improving my relations with other people. Most people don't realize speech isn't limited to speaking onstage to crowd of 5000. It's helped improve the way I work with other people, especially in group dynamics.

I would take more classes taught by Dr. Kirk anytime! Over all a great experience for learning work/life skills no matter the field you have chosen. Have a fear of public speaking? Take his course and you won't when your done.

i have enjoyed attending this class. I learned a lot about preparing speeches and presenting them in proper mannerism. My goal while in school is to use everything i learned in this class and use it in some of my other classes. I hope to be able to use the same criteria while looking for a job to help sell myself to a company.

I really enjoyed taking Dr. Kirk's class this semester. When you think of public speaking, most people go into the course with some sort of anxiety about speaking in front of people. However, between the open discussions and the process he has set up for each presentation, the anxiety fades. I 100% recommend his course.

He is very good at making the room just sociable not really a class room, makes you want to come to class. and he is very specificc on what he wants you to do , he will also try to help you in every way he can.

He was always willing to help and I appreciated him!

Dr. Kirk makes this class enjoyable. No one likes public speaking but by the end of the term you may feel like you could run for president. This is a classes where you get out what you put in. Dr. Kirk will help you develop your skills and be as good as YOU want to be. Disarms the class and makes it a fun atmosphere. Wish all courses were like it.

Professor Kirk made class interesting and fun; he is a great professor. It was not a blow-off class as you work for your grade, but he is fair. He also gives great feedback. He wants you to learn and improve. This ended up being my favorite class and the best professor I've had.

Professor Kirk was probalbly the best teacher I have ever had. He is really enthusiastic and provides a great atmosphere to conduct your speeches in. Professor Kirk is easily accessible and answers emails really quickly. He really made me enjoy classes with him and even though i was nervous to do the speeches he made it comfotable.

He was a very good professor. He has a talent for putting people at ease and teaching very clearly, which is needed when teaching people how to get better at public speaking. He gave a doable amount of homework and quizzes. Overall he was a great professor and I would highly recommend someone to take his class.

Professor Kirk was by far one of the best professors ive ever had. He cares about the students in his class, he makes it fun to learn and improve. If I had ab opportunity to have him again I would in an instant. He will always help if you ask. The passion he exerts is contagious and because of him I ended the term a better person and scholar.

Grades and gives feedback very quickly. All of my assignments had feedback on what I did well and what could be done better, which is possibly the best quality a teacher can have.

He is amazing. His style of teaching is one to be replicated. He provides detailed /timely feedback, allowing you to grow. communication. Ensuring that we understand it is not just for a public speaking field, but also everyday life. He is a hummingbird, ALWAYS finding the sweet in something, and in a world full of vultures, that is refreshing!

I was very nervous about signing up for this class because lets face it who likes public speaking. Dr. Kirk made the class very enjoyable along with assuring you that its normal to have anxiety with speaking in public. He provides positive feedback timely on ways you can improve. I highly recommend taking his class as you wont regret it!

Donnie Kirk is one of the best professors at Vernon College. I walked into the class with low expectations, but I walk out of it looking back on one of the most wonderful classes I have had in my time at the college. Professor Kirk is supportive, fair, and always willing to help students improve.

Loved this class. If you take any speech class take his. He is willing to adapt with times and will take the time to find out a way to help you along the course. Will have so many great memories of this course and the people that I took it with.

He is most likely the best teacher I have ever had in college. He very easy to talk to and teaches you life lessons that you will use in your career. I fully recommend Donnie Kirk. He was an outstanding professor that went above and beyond any other professor I've had when it comes to organization, preparation for each class, and even kept you up to date throughout the semester. His set up with only being 4-6 people per session also helped me conquer my fear of public speaking!
