Professor Leveston he is fun at times and at other times he's very serious. He is hard on his students but then again not really you have to want to work hard and learn. He gives you the opporutunity to rewrite essays.
Honest review here. Really hard, he is a good guy, but teaching is not good. Lot of work and writing to do. Recommended for english majors only. He also had us write about 14-20 stupid poems in ENGL 1301! He did poetry work with us, which is nonsense in my opinion. Non-english majors please dont take this guy.
I love Mr. Leveston he was awesome. He wants the best for all his students.
He's not a good teacher and has little respect for anyone who doesn't kiss the ground he walks on or doesn't act like they helplessly need him. When you're right and he's wrong - he's still right - don't see how he became a teacher- at all
I like Professor Leveston as a person, Honestly speaking he is not a teacher material. He do not remember what he has instructed the students to do in his assignments. He come to class yelling at students for no reason.I think he is best to be a teacher in a Military school. I do not recommend him to anyone that really want to learn English.
Professor Leveston was honestly the best professor I had at HCC. He pushed for perfection in every essay we did. He is only hard if you slack off and don't try at all. He will help if you ask for it and not demand it from him. I recommend people who are serious about their grades to take this class.
He teaches you things that you probably have learned in high school so the essays are easy but he assigns a lot of them. He spoon feeds you basically everything so the only way you can mess up is if you do not follow directions. He likes everything to be exactly like he said. He is angered very easily. Do not take him if you want to learn.
He was a very rude teacher who would frequently go off on long tangents. He constantly redid his syllabus so that it looked like he was on track when he actually wasn't.
I don't have a problem with Professor Leveston as a person, but he is a HORRENDOUS teacher. He follows an 'all-or-nothing' grading style that is not conducive to students' learning. He seems to enjoy giving 0s and has no issues telling the class that most of them will fail. I love English, but this was an AWFUL class.
Professor Leveston is hard but fair. He expects his students to come to class prepared and ready to think. You will learn.
Professor Leveston is hard, but he is fair, too. He expects his students. I took him in the spring of '13 for COMP 1301,and people still tried to make excuseseven after he helped us.
Im sorry to say that Professor Leveston was a horrible teacher overall. he was never prepare nor on schedule he told us in the beginning what we see on this website wasn't him but i completely agree with everything i seen. he is not flexable AT ALL! no matter the reason death, sickness etc. i have nothing good to say about him.
He never followed the syllabus, and always made up an excuse for why we weren't on time, yelled at class all the time and the rubrics for essays are very unclear. Extremely unapproachable, any time I tried to ask a question, he would reference something he said 3 months ago and ask why I forgot it in a rude tone, would not recommend at all.
He is really strict on how you write your papers. If it is not correct MLA format, then he will not give you the points! He will always tell you to refer back to your handbook (textbook you need for his class)If you are not going to do his work, he will drop you from the class.
doable but doubtful, i regret taking this class.
The class is very depressing & stressful bcuz he assign too much project every week we have to read 4 to 5 boring story every week plus so an essay. You will end up working 5 hours a day every week to keep up. 80%of the class discussion had nothing to do w/English comp. We end up no knowing what do to. We did all my pr0ject & still got lowest grade.
guys a pain, he is a US Army vet and he will make the class act like boot camp. he was easy the first day but a student was texting on her phone and messed up it up for everyone nows he makes everyone work by the syllabus alone and never tells up what is due just "look at the syllabus"
His way of teaching is to come in with an angry attitude to start the class, complain about what everyone did wrong with uploading, tell 1-2 students in class that everything they do is right and referencing the syllabus or book if you have questions. This is beyond a doubt one of the worst teachers I have ever taken. Your teacher is the book.
Professor Leveston is a great instructor with an enthusiastic personality. His guidance teaches you how to be a conscientious and independent writer. I am glad I took his summer course.
Professor Leveston is a great instructor with an enthusiastic personality. His guidance teaches you to become an independent and conscientious writer. I am glad I took his summer 2014 course.
This professor is good but just doesn't care about his courses. Would not show up to some classes or give us some exercise and leave. Very brief work with book and quizzes don't reflect almost ANYTHING you do in class. To the end of the semester half of class just stopped showing up.
Mixed feelings about this professor. He's useful for people who want some real world experience dealing with difficult instructors or bosses, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend. I like him as a person, but not very much as a teacher. I still managed to take something away from this class, but I wouldn't recommend him to most people.
Professor Leveston is pretty tough and can be very confusing at times. He has very good intentions and wants the absolute best for his students. If you are not ready for a challenge dont take this class.
Worst teacher ever!!!! STAY AWAY!! He will give you assignments and not explain exactly what he wants. And when you ask for feed back, he will yell at you and "help" but in a bad manner. If you want a good grade DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
Professor Leveston is great teacher but he is tough. If you don't do your work you will not pass. Do not use your phone in his class he will make you leave. Don't miss class.
I'm going to keep it 100 if you want to pass this class you have to do every assignment. Attendance is a must, he says he don't take late work but he will work with you if you trying. Bottom line if you come to class and complete the assignments your gonna pass. He's not the type to accept excuses overall good teacher tough but fair.
Just be in class on time do all the assignments you'll pass. He's not as tough as they saying Professor Leveston is really cool, you just can't come to class trying to run game he don't do excuses and justifications. He's a good teacher take him especially if you're likely to be in class on time ready to work otherwise, DON'T!
The worst please do not take his class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mixed reviews. He wastes too much time complaining about students that are unprepared. He talks a big game about how tough of a grader he is, but I got an easy A. I simply did all the work and followed directions. He can be unfair. I lost points for a very loosely worded, misleading question on a quiz but decided to let it go. Arguing won't help.
Overall the class was pretty average it was not bad but it was not great. Lectured mostly about MLA format and how important it was. There were enough assignments that if you weren't doing well you could easily bring your grade up. Beware of group projects there are a lot and he isn't always clear on what he wants so ask lots of questions. AVERAGE
Leveston is a Good Teach, but has mood swings that are out of this world. Be sure to write everything he says, cause he may forget and get sidetrack. NO CELL PHONES NO LAPTOPS MO DEVICES WHAT SO EVER. He wil kick you out and he will speak his mind. Just be nice to him and complete all assignments and do your best!
He is a tough professor but he actually cares about his student's performances. You have to do ALL of the assignments and show up in all of his classes if you want to pass, especially for the group project!!!! Make sure you follow ALL of his directions, and take thorough notes. He can be vague at times so ask questions.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! a veteran that thinks he is the center of the WORLD! all the assignments or essays are about black history or about black veterans, he is not understanding at all! I can't even call this person a professor, the first week we were 24 students and 1 month later just 6 students left. If you don't have any other choice, then WAIT!
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
this is the worst teacher i ever had in my whole education career doesn't care about you his student his is a veteran and like to treat everyone like soldiers. if you want to lower your GPA or get yourself a high chance to fail a class take him. sometimes he get this reaction when you ask him a question and gets mad and he makes a lot of mistakes
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! He's mad 24/7 he contradicts himself all the time. JUST A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR
The single worse college professor I have ever had. Just don't take the class if he was the only option for an English class I would rather wait another semester for another teacher than take his class.
Never ever take his class. He's by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire academic career. He ridicules and laughs at you if you ask questions and then gets mad and says you should have known this as if we aren't human and forget things. Doesn't teach in class very much. Gets mad for no reason. All in all, if you take him you'll die.
This class is only difficult because of the unnecessary confusion caused by the professor. Maybe he has too much on his plate or teaching too many classes in 1 term. That still does not entitle him to be completely scattered, unorganized and RUDE at all times. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Please do not take his class! You will regret it. Syllabus is clear and easy, but trust me it will change. Expects you to know the info just because you may have read it. He's all over the place, joking one minute, pissed the next. Doesn't answer questions. 3-4 test, 4-5 essays, no final/mid term! He only relates to those that are late/dont try.
Honestly I'm so happy I dropped this class. Not a good proffesor. Pretty much couldn't say what I wanted due to the super sensitive guidelines.
Look. Mr. Leveston can be tough. He will call you out if you havent been participating in reading your modules. Read every assignment CAREFULLY! He gives clear directions and expects you to follow them to the letter. He is actually a very fair grader. If you follow directions, come to class, and try your best, you will get an A.
I took Donny for both 1301 and 1302. He's not as bad as he seems once you get pass his random mood swings (ptsd). He is a little unorganized however, this flaw can be used to your advantage (since, he will get rid of some assignments). As long as you're respectable and don't slack off, you'll pass this class.
I took Prof. Leveston for both 1301 and 1302. Is his class a cakewalk? No. Will he challenge you to become a better writer? Absolutely, and if you take his feedback to heart you can get an A. Read before class, take your assignments seriously, and use office hours. Great professor if you are actually interested in composition.
well he is actually a great professor and he expects every one to be serious with their works. surely essays are to be written, don't try to do the assignments at the last minute, because it's mostly researched based. all in all, he's worth the try, just be ready to be serious.
Want to learn how to write? He will train you and teach you. Lots of Homework but worth doing it. Not so tough grader. Yells a lot but he will give you chance to improve your grade at the end of semester. Group project, presentation, Journal research paper are important in his class. DON"T MISS MORE THAN 3 CLASS, YOU WON'T PASS.
I was ready to take my ENGL 1302 class without going through too much. I originally didn't sign up for this professor, but they switched the professors last minute. He is very disrespectful, especially to dual-credit students. He is not race inclusive, and complains about topics not related to the class. Claims he is a facilitator not a teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! Take it with anyone else!!!!!! He's ridiculous, Interesting class, however; he runs this class like it's an English class. Be prepared not to do ANYTHING but write papers!
Humanities is a pretty interesting class, however, the teacher was not. He's constantly yelling and loses his temper quick. I recommend to take the class but with a different teacher. He makes you write multiple papers and he will make them all due on the same day. You will learn more by reading the book, then learning from him. Don't take him!!!
Has A Great Way Of teaching, makes you work for your grade and develops you to work harder. A great instructor
To start, he's not a bad person I don't think. I can say he's a bad prof. He doesn't follow the syllabus and when you ask him a legit question, you don't know if he'll blow up or explain it to you. He barely lectures and he'll just throw an assignment at you without even telling you how to do it. I've also seen him be very rude to other students.
The greatest professor. You will learn a lot from this guy.
His biggest flaw is his sporadic tendencies. You can do all requirements for a paper yet he will dock points for things he never listed. He wont let you discuss grades with other students in class. Gets mad when you ask a question, yet he gets mad if you do something wrong and don't ask. Course was difficult because of his inability to be clear.
Lots of homework that ends up being the same concept throughout assignments. Doesnt answer to questions if he thinks theyre stupid questions. Confusing professor because he doesnt make it clear on what he wants on group projects.
Horrible teaching, abstract grading: borderline emotional grading, you never know what to expect. If you want any critical thought from this class it will come from your readings, not the professor.
Would never take a class with this professor again. Extremely rude and contradicts himself often. He teaches using Power point presentations, reads the slides, and gets angry if ask questions. He once yelled at a student "If you can't read, get out of my class" because she asked where one assignment was on the syllabus. AWFUL
Don't take this man even if you have no other option. Possibly the worst type of teacher to come across. Very confusing and gets angry when you ask questions about which he expects you to have the answers to. Honestly, the work was fine. But the fact that the instructor's bad qualities overshadow the good ones.
i dont understand why his rating is so low i think hes a great teacher hes funny and caring he may seem a little harsh at times but he means well and hes a great teaches hes hard on you because he wants you to pass
I took his 5- week class and it was stressful but worth it. There is a lot of hw, but you can pass if you are determined. Ask peers for help, go to the tutors, plan out your assignments if possible... it will really help! TRIPLE CHECK YOUR WORK, ALWAYS! He does get upset but only because he cares. I either got a high B or low A as my final grade.
He is very strict with due dates and reading you must pay attention in class he will add or drop things to assignments you must always read everything he gives you to see specifics of his assignments if you have a questions about your main source always ask I had a worse instructor then him
TERRIBLE TEACHER. This man used to be in the military and treats his students like he's their drill sgt. He has very bad anger issues and yells at the students in front of the class. he brags about how everyone always drops his class. if you report him to the dean he threatens to sue you and the school. this man does not deserve to be a teacher
He is tough, but he knows what he is doing. One of the few competent professors I have had at HCC. Make sure you read ahead as he likes class participation and will call on people to answer his questions. He gets frustrated when no one answers voluntarily and/or does not know the answer. DO NOT USE CONTRACTIONS (can't, he's, etc.)
I took his online anytime regular term course and I really liked his class. Just note if you have ANY questions or are confused on an assignment, ask him! He will respond with all the info you need to know. There were weekly quizzes and about four papers, as long as you did the quiz prep you'd be golden. Just pay attention and you'll pass with an A
Terrible teacher. I enrolled with another professor, but he ended up being the teacher instead. The other teacher had all the instructions and videos already recorded, he just had to grade the work. This professor will assume you know everything for English and will be mad if you don't properly format even if the instructions did not specify.
I had a Grand Mal seizure that required hospital treatment therefore I couldn't complete my work & was urged by doctors to "relax." After letting Professor Leveston know, & forwarding my hospital paperwork as well as all the assignments I missed, he told me "I do not accept late work." I was ignored after asking for extra credit opportunities.
This Professor is worse! I contracted covid-19 the second week of classes and couldn't attend lectures or do work for the week. He doesn't accept doctors' notes as an excuse. If you're an introvert forget it. Group projects till the end and the projects last for 2 months. He isn't good at explaining anything. His instructions need instructions.
If you have anxiety, don't take this class. He screams a lot like you are one of his children. He mocks you if you get something wrong. Doesn't have clear instructions. He also compared me having covid to him being blind in one eye. It was his decision to go to war and get blind, I caught covid involuntarily. Group projects that last till the end.
He is literally not bad, he is a tough grader and sometimes says comments that are unnecessary but all you have to do is do the work on time and you will pass the class, send him your papers for feedback and do not skip class otherwise you will not pass. If you want to get a good grade in his class, you have to work for it!
Was too rough, did not give enough opportunity for growth.
He rarely responds to his mails and hardly explains his assignments. He is also an arrogant and tough grader. I almost lost my mind taking this course. The effort I invested in this course should have yielded an A+, but here we are! Please, look out for another professor for your mental sake!!
Please do not take his online class. He is very rude, doesn't give clear feedback, and doesn't have a rubric for most assignments. One of the worst professors I have every experienced.
While setting initial deadlines, the instructor routinely extends them due to difficulty keeping up with grading. Suppose you're not confident in producing flawless work or uncertain about your essays. In that case, this class might not be suitable, as the instructor tends to issue failing grades and provide blunt, potentially hurtful feedback.
The professor's teaching style makes the subject matter unnecessarily difficult to grasp. The professor's stern demeanor contributes to a stifling classroom atmosphere, hindering open communication and impeding student engagement. There is a disconnect between the professor and the students.
This course will make you a stronger writer and student. If you listen to the feedback provided to you and correct your mistakes, you will be fine. Professor Leveston responded to all my emails throughout the semester and was available to meet with me any time i asked. People that struggle in this course simply don't put in the effort.
Very tough grader despite unclear/contradictory instructions. By the time 1 paper is graded, you've already completed 2-3 more, so it's too late to apply feedback to the next assignment. Only succeeded because I was already a strong writer/researcher. Few assignments, no lectures, 1 group project, and 1 strenuous opportunity for extra credit.
"This is not vey well written." was his feedback for my fist assignment in his class. Ouch! He hadn't taught me anything yet! I can laugh now. I, fortunately, chose to drop his class and try again with another professor. My confidence and self esteem, as a writer, may have taken quite a beating had I stayed.
I explained to him my personal situation, and that I couldn't continue the class. I asked him to remove me from the class but he told me the day to drop the course was already passed, and he would give me a letter grade (F). He didn't even help me to drop from the class or give me other options to not receive and F grade.
Hi, My experience with this professor was so horrible that it has driven me to start utilizing rate my professor from now on. He never responded to me during the course .. he only took the time to write me unprofessional comments. I highly do not recommend. I'm an easy going person & I take my schooling seriously . I repeat that he's no good .
This teacher is a really difficult grader for no apparent reason. He doesn't give good feedback when asked and makes you write essays with “20% sources used”, idk about anyone else but I can't come up with a percentage of sources just by looking at an essay. He has to be using AI for that. And making a small mistake can cost you your whole grade.
At first, this professor was honestly really great. He had sent me a sweet email that he'd write a letter of recommendation if I ever needed one. By the end of the semester, he really turned. He began lazy in having instructions and expected us to know HIS expectations. If you don't met his expectations, he gives such lazy reviews.
I believe this professor is a decent person but he sucks as a professor. he was so fair in the beginning with grading but became so bad at explaining his assignments in the end, expecting us to understand what he wants. He also gives poor feedback like “these post are too short” even after not saying the word limit of a discussion.
This teacher was the worst experience I've ever had. I was doing great in other classes, but this one professor was so bad I considered withdrawing from college. His feedback was barely a thing, the most i got was "this is wrong" but no explanation for why or how to change it. I highly recommend avoiding this teacher if you can.
He is very rude. If u make any small mistake (mistakes that don't stop him from giving an A on an assignment) he writes unprofessional remarks in the Canvas comment section. It's very bizarre, I have never responded but he's been extremely unkind. His group project instructions are hard to interpret and when I reached out for clarity, I got none.
He's extremely rude like everyone is saying. Whether you're doing well on the essays or not. It's the night before the semester ends and I'm still waiting for assignments to be graded. I am a straight A student who turns in assignments on time, I expect the same urgency from the professor. Would not recommend anyone take his classes.
Horrible Grader, make one small little mistake or use oxford comma? "AI" yet he uses AI to grade things, he had also made fun of me being at the hospital and for asks more time at his assignments, he thinks everyone just makes random excuces and has "consequences" Horrible feedback and no sense on time, unprofessional professors hope he gets karma
I would never take a course from him. He doesn't give a rubric for papers and when he has signed assignments, it's last minute. He will pull the grading out of left field just because he wants to and the explanation for assignments make no sense. He is very contradicting.
This is unequivocally the worst online course I have ever encountered, delivered absolutely zero educational benefit email or forum questions were routinely ignored or answered weeks late with lazy inaccurate nonsense do not enroll under any circumstances save your money time and sanity by choosing literally anything else avoid it like the plague.
He is a very tough grader, and under almost any circumstance does not accept late assignments, not even for unforeseen events. He gives a lot of feedback, though he is sassy with his feedback.
This is the worst professor I've ever taken and super rude, if you have a question about an assignment or grade just keep it to yourself. He grades the assignments super late & expects us to submit impeccable work. If you think about dropping his class do it, don't thinking twice about it. Don't consider choosing his class.
Will force an F by letting you stay instead of a W despite syllabus stating withdrawal will happen if conditions aren't met.
