One of the best english teachers I've ever had! Yes, course is challenging, but it has prepared me very well! Donovan definitely cares about his students and will demonstrate as much interest in your success as you do. He is an insightful mentor.

Nice guy, teached the topic well and loved talking with students about the content. Only problem I had with him was that he was anal about how long he kept us during class (always until the last second), but I guess that isn't too much of a bad quam...

Very nice, open, and creates a great atmosphere for the class. Only problem was that he kept us up until the last moment, even when there wasn't anything else to say. He'd throw on some old, wierd movies that are boring to drain time ;p Great guy, though!

Very helpful teacher. A few bad things would be that he'll keep you for the whole class period till the last minute and he hasn't cancelled one class session yet. It's also key to do your homework because they'll most likely be group or class discussions.

Very good professor. Very fun, easy to talk to, willing to help, and explains everything clearly. You will have to work to earn your grade, but itis well worth it.

Gaytan is a very helpful professor. If you need help he is willing to help you, has group peer editing helps a lot, grades tough on essays other than that his class was cool nice guy. Kinda hard class, you have to earn your grade.

He is a very considerate teacher that is willing to go out of his way for his students. There is great interaction in the classroom and discussions about anything and everything relating to Shakespeare.

Gaytan is a great teacher. It is because of him why my writing improved. He is a tuff grader on essays but that is what makes you better. He is a person you can talk out side of class about your issues and he will be willing to help you out.

WARNING! has aan everyday journal that you always have to do it everyday even weekends, that is the only thing that i hate other than that really good and learn a lot..oh no extra credit, and if you miss too many classes he drops you and sometimes it feels like he plays favorites be aware

man this professor is like the hardest guy ever! if u add be prepared to spends of time doing homework especially essays all semester long. this class will make you a badass student if u go through with it and your writing will dramatically improve a whole lot better than how u started, he definetly helping u all the way dont leave u hanging.

this class sucked! to get a good grade in his class you have kiss a lot of butt. he never lets you out early, and its his way or the highway.

If you dont like to be challenged dont even think of taking this class. Take it only if you want to become a bad ass in writing, and are willing to doabout 10 of the hardest essays ever. Youll succeed if you work your ass off

Donovan makes learning about literature very exciting. He is such an outstanding teacher, that I would take any class from him. Coming out of his class, I felt completely prepared for any Ivy League school, but had enjoyed the class so much it hardly felt like work. I could not recommend him more highly. Take his class!

I loved Donovan's Shakespeare class, even though we ended up with only about 9 students! He is a great professor because he truly cares about his students and their undestanding of the plays. His classes are very informative and everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussion. You will learn a lot and reading Shakespeare will become easy!

Not an easy class if your an unmotivated student. He was the best teacher I have ever had, and helps his students in and out of class. I have learning disabilities, but Donovan made sure I understood everything. If you plan to transfer, take his class.

Definitely will help you improve your writing you just need to put forth a little effort. Make sure to do your homework &bring your books to class when asked. Be ready to read whatever you write in front of the class. Gives good feedback and cares about his students. If it?s obvious you aren?t trying in the class he will drop you so watch out.

at first i was afraid of him and the class, because everything you write down yo have to read out loud..after a short while you end up loving him and he is a really good teacher. make sure you don't text or miss classes or else he will drop you.

Professor Gaytan will definitely challenge you. I can easily say that this was one of my hardest classes but it will all pay off in the end! If you want a challenge for English, take him. I took Donovan's shakespeare class last fall and it was awesome. He's a very helpful guy and is very accessible during his office hours. As long as you put in effort and do the work, you will end up doing well in the class and you will be impressed by how much you've learned.

I took his 101 and Shakespeare class and have to say that he is my favorite teacher and really made me have more confidence in my writing. You have to work very hard in both classes and attend everyday. Shakespeare is difficult but he makes it very fun and by the end of the sem, Shakes. becomes easy.I got A's in both.

Awesome teacher, awesome class. Really helpful and knowledgeable. I wasn't interested in Shakespeare prior to taking the class and it ended up being by far my favorite! You have to put in the effort, but it is so rewarding in the end. You come away from the class with a better understanding of the world and human nature. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!

He is a very good teacher! he will work you hard and challenge you but its worth it because you learn alot without even realizing it. he's nice to you unless he has a reason not to be. if i could i would take him for all my english classes! take him!

Professor Gaytan is not an easy teacher! if you are a slacker this is not a class for you. Attendance and putting some serious hard work into this class can get you a good grade.

Does a very good job of creating a sense of intimacy and community in the classroom. Cons:Prompts are unclear, and the writing techniques he shows you are convoluted at best.

This was one of the most difficult classes I had ever taken and Prof. Gaytan was one of the hardest teachers I had ever experienced. I would highly recommend him since he cares about his students and wants nothing more than for us to learn and to succeed.

Donovan is Donovan. I didn't like him for the 1st semester bc of his expectation. Now, that we have completed, I absolutely thankful for the dedication & hard work he does for his students. Favorite class of the semester. There is a large amount of reading but I would say he is an easy grader. He is one of the few teachers that truly inspires a passion for learning in his students rather than fact memorizing. Passionate about his subject and it rubs off. Values opinion. No longer intimidated by Shakespeare.

Donovan was an amazing teacher. He really cares about his students and takes his personal time out of the day to help if you need it. He expects a lot from his students but the work is easy. If you have a hard time with writing essays or just English in general, he's the right fit for you. Only test was the final, and he gives lots of Extra Credit.

Mr. Gaytan is a fairly good teacher. He makes you work for the grade, he gives no extra credit, he has no grading scale just bases it off what assignments you have done, essays, and your attendance. If you miss more than one class he lowers your grade a whole letter.

I learned so much from him & the essays are not long, just your average 3-4 pages. He expects you to go to the Writing Center for at least 8 hours, but really wants his students to exceed 8 hours and go beyond what is requested. Gaytan gives a fair amount of homework. To be honest this class was sort of difficult for me, but that's just me I guess.

Donovan Gaytan is a god when is comes to English. I took his 099 class for my first semester and he blew my mind about English class--he got me to actually enjoy it. His essays are not long, but rather require lots of thinking behind them. He himself is a very philosophical person, so prepare for deep thought thinking. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!

He's probably one of the best English teachers I have ever taken! He's super helpful and very clear with what he wants. I lost one of my prompts and had to make up a discussion just to receive credit because he did not use blackboard to upload any documents and he still accepted my discussion and gave me full credit! If you want the best critical thinking/writing experience, take Donovan! There are hardly words to accurately depict his devotion to students. He is the toughest, most intelligent professor you will ever take, but no other can equip you as well. Be prepared to give 100%: he knows his students and what they are capable of even before they know.

One of my favorite professors at OCC, his way of teaching is defiantly annoying and seems like a lot of busy work at first however by the end of the semester you will understand why he teaches the way he does.

This professor left a tremendously positive impact for me through his honesty and strict rules; he does not sugar-coat anything for students, providing heartless feedback at times only to turn them into critical writers, so his feedback may be heartless but he is not. Take him if you want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes. A.A.

Overall a great person and professor as long as you aren't lazy about your work. You are required to buy a lot of text, but they are actually useful for work outside of his class. There are a lot of assignments but they're generally easy to complete as long as you don't procrastinate, and in return you become a better writer.

If you don't show up you will be lost and docked points for participation. If you are struggling he is a very great helper and is kind to students, don't be afraid to reach out he will help you pass! He is so funny and outgoing and I can't wait to take him in his English 101 this semester! Buy all the books he lists! You won't pass w/out them.

Great Teacher! Super funny and outgoing and really cares for his student! Make sure you buy the book he needs for class and you PARTICIPATE or you won't get credit, he will call you out. Don't use your phone or. he will drop you from the class. If you need help he is always willing to talk. A lot of writing but so worth it. I love the way he teach

On a scale of 1-10 he is a 7.5 for me. For me, he was difficult because you will be reading and writing a ton, however, I would take him again. He's nice and funny and he gives good lectures that made me appreciate writing and reading more. The feedback he gives you on an A+ paper that you've worked really hard for feels so good!

You work hard, read, and write well, then you will receive a good grade. The book and reading are mandatory! I know he really cares for his students because he gave me a huge chance to redo my failure on a paper that I messed up because he knew I was really trying hard and I turned it in and got an A! He expects college level writing.

I took Donovan for ENG 099 & 100. Why both? IDK haha. Strict & a tough grader! I got a B & C. On top of reading at home, there's a lot of in-class reading and papers to write. If you want an easy English class, this is NOT IT but if you want a challenge and to truly learn, Donovan is the man. Don't be on your phone! READ or you'll get called out!

I learned so much from this class and can say confidently that I have improved as a writer. Although he makes you participate and read your work out loud I feel as though it made me more confident in my work. There is a lot of reading but since I only had the class once a week it wasn't too much to handle. Always come to class prepared!

He lays out the essays throughout the weeks so by the time you have to submit final draft you should have a good layout- which was really nice. SIt in front of the class because he will notice that as a bonus point. He was nice but straight forward and if you do your work and show your trying he will respect you.

Professor Gaytan is amazing! He is an all-around great guy and awesome professor! He really cares about each and every one of his students.

he's a hard teacher but I enjoyed his class. he tends not to be super caring about students' personal lives getting in the way of education, but other than that he was an enjoyable teacher. a lot of essay writing though, so be prepared for that. and have a printer, lots of printed papers. a little convinced he hates trees.
