Sweetest Professor ever, hands down. This was his first quarter, and he was amazing at teaching online. I wish I had taken his class in person because his jokes were amazing, showed us his dog often, and even talked about his cooking recipes. He taught the concepts amazingly and made his tests appropriately hard.

pretty nice guy, can't run a class. This was the zoomU semester and he did not want to put in any extra effort to accommodate students. Announcements were often vague or last minute, horribly structured tests. Tests were on the hard side. Only take him if your other options are objectively bad and you are confident in ability to teach yourself.

Prof Stallings is the best professor I've had at UCSD. Tests EXTREMELY correlate to quizzes and discussion worksheets, almost identical. He prepares you very well for his exams and they are not difficult if you prepare. Grading breakdown is great. He is also very inspirational, funny, and an engaging lecturer. Dr. Stallings was extremely receptive of feedback and wrote his perspective on why he could or couldn't implement students' ideas for the class. He took everyone's thoughts into consideration. Stallings is a (nice) professor. It's best to attend synchronously. He doesn't record during his zoom lectures and his asynchronous videos are really just him reading the slides. He's... okay. Very accessible outside of class (office hours 3x/week) but his explanations are very long-winded despite saying very little in terms of content which confused me at times. Online is pretty rough not bc hard questions, but the small margin of error (not sure WHY he had to have such a small margin) really frustrated me. Better IRL!

Very sweet guy overall. However, the class is graded by few exams, and often we would have to learn videos outside in lecture because he would not cover them all in time (had to learn stuff on my own a week before the final because we did not get to it in class yet were expected to know it). Hard online, but very kind professor.

I didn't take chemistry in high school so this class was difficult for me. So if you're like me, set aside at least 6 hours a week extra to read textbook or watch Youtube videos to help. He was generally okay at explaining things in lecture, but sometimes sped through the last slides because time was running out. Exams were fair though.

Honestly, if there were one thing I could do differently, I would go back and attend every lecture, even if it was at 8 am, because as long as you keep up with regular lecture attendance and do not chatGPT every homework, you will do very well. He is very respected in the chemistry department; overall, a fantastic dude. Watch out for bears!

Stallings is amazing. He's so funny and just a sweet guy. The class content was decently hard but he's really caring and open to questions and genuinely wants us to do well in the class. The exams were fair imo and he allowed a cheat sheet for them. He curves your total grade at the end.

Very personable and funny guy but his lectures are not it. He says stuff won't be on the exams but then they are in fact on the exams. Exams are all multiple choice, not super bad and you do get a crib sheet. He mostly just talks through the lecture and gets sidetracked easily…He knows what he's talking about but it doesn't come across sometimes.

Stallings's a good person. He's funny and nice to students. Though he definitely needs some improvement. He flies through important slides and likes to add his own explanations - which did not work for me at all. Also he kept saying things weren't going to be on the exam and yes they were. Homework points are easy, exams can be tricky

He was chill, but I didn't like his lectures. He'd say topics wouldn't be on the exam when they were, and sometimes included material he never covered. He occasionally did problems wrong on the spot, contradicting past methods. The class was fair and easier than others, but he wasn't my favorite professor.

Stallings is a nice prof and is really kind but he is very difficult to get a good grade with. To get an A you have to sacrifice all your free time to studying his class. He tends to say that things wont be on exams but then puts them there anyway. Tough prof to read but if you REALLY give everything you got you can get a good grade. Go to TA OH.

He's really good at explaining the concepts. I understand some people will rate low but that's because chemistry is a hard subject. Don't expect a professor to just gift you an A. He provides so many resources as the exams are identical to the quizzes and discussions problems. If you took AP Chem like me but got a 3, this class is a breeze.

Chemistry is a tough subject, but Stallings did a great job at explaining concepts and working through problems in lectures. He gives you so many resources, cheat sheets on exams, and the quiz problems will show up on the tests. Yes this class is very difficult but if you put in the work and utilize the resources, you will succeed.

He's great at explaining the main ideas and makes lectures fun with his tangents. He's really encouraging and lets you use a cheat sheet for CHEM 6A, but you still need to study. Do the quizzes and discussion worksheets—the midterms are most like the discussion worksheets.

Great for GenChem. Took AP Chem in high school, so mostly review for me. Doesn't explain some concepts too well for someone learning for the first time, but gives good answers when you ask questions. Funny and engaging. Structure of class is great: weekly quizzes are practice for tests, and you can replace midterm grades if you do better on final.

Professor stallings is genuinely an amazing teacher, the class is relatively chill and goes at an easy pace. My one warning is the tests can sometimes be harder than the homework so you have to make sure you really understand the material, but otherwise definitely worth how early the class is!

goated. Great lecturer, funny, his voice is easy to fall asleep to tho. All assignments and midterms are extremely low risk, 200/300 collective points is 100% for hw quizzes discussion attendance etc and u can replace midterm scores. Never taken a chemistry class before and I was crashing out, but it was because I was behind the whole time.

Prof. Stallings is an amazing professor for Chem 6A. His lectures are very entertaining and digestible, and he doesn't assume any prior knowledge for this class. Grading is based off of two midterms, a final, and "bucket points" (a combination of homework, discussions, etc) that are very attainable. One cheat sheet for midterms and three for final.

Stallings makes everything easy and digestible to learn. He allows cheat sheets on the 2 midterms and 3 cheat sheets the final. Low stakes tests bc his grading policy replaces the midterm for both grade on the final. Extra credit on final. I never get bored with this guy, so much stories to tell. As always don't let the bears get you :)

Make a really good cheat sheet and take notes on all of the lectures and you'll do okay in the class. I think also it would have helped if I had done more supplemental learning on my own, but overall I did fine in the class. You can watch all the lectures online, but don't procrastinate and let them pile up like I did. Minimal homework, no quizzes.

The book wasn't very helpful for this class. Do all of the weekly assigned quizzes, those are most likely to come up on the exams. There are two midterm exams and the first two sections have a replacement option on the final. Lectures are recorded. Overall, Stallings is a great professor!

Very low stakes weekly homework+quizzes. Midterms are straightforward, and he allows a crib sheet for every midterm. The final (3 crib sheets) was more difficult than either of the midterms, but I highly recommend taking his class. My only complaint is that he provides skeletal notes and sometimes talks way more than what the slides show.

His lectures were a bit fast and unclear for me personally, BUT his grading is the best to me. Also, unfortunately, you need an iPad for his class. He gives skeletal notes, and you're gonna need to fill those out in class and add what he talks about to know what is happening. I'm also not a fan of the constant AI promoting.
