The class is pretty easy. All you have to study for her 2 exams are the handouts she gives and basically the same thing is on her exams

she can be a little crazy at times beacause she does mutter to herself and laughs at the weirdest things. however she is easy to pass. as long as u study the handouts ull pass since her tests are similar to the handouts.

Just as I had anticipated, this Prof is great! Clear, funny, down-to earth, uses examples from our every day experience and her own life. She is hip and striking in appearance, puts the lecture together in such a cohesive and understandable manner. She should teach LCD more often! Her ANTH 104 class is great, too, 'cause she teaches it! The best!

Sure, she may be easy and she may be "clear" and have a sense of humor but the course/material in itself is so boring that I (and as I observed most classmates) can't help but tune out. Its like a class about 'nothing'. So, "easy A", maybe...but if your in school to "learn" real stuff then I would advice otherwise.

Do NOT listen to the bad ratings/reviews in this site. Whoever gives Professor Schmitt a bad rating is beyond me. You are only doing that since you do not or cannot understand teaching perfection. It doesn't get any better than her in Queens College. If you cannot pass her class you do not belong in this post secondary institution. She's SUPERB!

shes ok...boring no doubt but no hard and is very clear...gives a lot of review sheets...just follow those and fill in the blanks...tests are short and easy...just some tricky wording but she bolds key words anyway...take her...itll be your "easy class"

easy class. only assigns readings for homework, which dont have to be done if you just go to class and pay attention. everything for the test is mentioned in class. great class to catch up on your sleep, no matter how hard i tried, i couldnt stay awake in that class.

The best of the very best in the Anthro Department!!! The coolest and funniest professor in Queens College. If you put some effort in this class and show that you care about your studies and participate you'll be rewarded accordingly. I only wish she taught more classes in Queens College.

Well, her test was a bit difficult, but as she said, it's the application of knowledge, not just the knowledge. I think she is great: so knowledgeable, funny, and yes she cares a lot, unless you are disruptive or a wise-*ss. Definitely recommend her, not too much work except you must attend class!

Funniest professor I've had. I found her classes very interesting. She is very easy going,and she's cool. I didn't buy her bookand I got a B. Her notes are very important, and her tests are pretty hard. I reccomend her if you are interested in linguistics.

Prof. Schmitt is the only way to go with the Humanities III LASAR requirement in Queens College. Simply attend her class (worth saying that time goes by really fast in her class since she tells jokes), participate, read the handouts and receive a good grade in the end. How hard is that. She is the best of the best.

This subject is very interesting and the class is easy; just study the handouts she gives you and show up to class and you'll be fine. I will say though that this teacher tends to say some inappropriate things and I felt uncomfortable a lot of the time. Don't buy the textbook and don't lose those sheets!

I really enjoyed this class and loved the professor. She is cool, clear and comedic--and she truly knows her stuff. Do the readings and you have to come to class. Get to know her! Visit her in her office--she really cares about you and likes to hear of you life, studies and interests, and listens to your problems--helps you with course content.

Although the semester is not over yet... so far this professor is EXCELLENT!!! She will keep you interested for the entire period. I'm sure the upcoming midterm and final exams would not change my opinion on her.

I agree--she is truly excellent--so knowledgeable. If you have a specific interest, she will personally follow-up on it after class. She is not afraid to laugh at herself, and certainly is not an academic snob--very down to earth! I recommend her over any other prof who teaches this course.

You will not find a better professor in Queens College to be taught Linguistic Anthropology or Introductory Linguistics from!!! The remaining Linguistics faculty make the material twenty times more complicated than it already is. No linguistics professor is as clear as her. I wish she taught more courses in Linguistics and Queens College!

I had Dr. Schmitt as a substitute for my ANTH 104 class, and while my own professor is really nice, I do not think anybody explains the material as good as her. This Language, Culture and Society course FINALLY makes sense. I wish I could retake the course with her. Thank you professor.

Wow, just shows you difference in interest and opinion! I loved this professor and the course--it wasn't boring at all! I learned new things from day one--some students just have the wrong attitude--they are not open to learn and spend time to attend class--why are you even in college? I recommend her--she's a gem!

She's a little boring, but just deal with it for one semester because she's not bad at all!!She has a one track mind (sex, sex, and more sex)but just come to class, listen, study, REVIEW your answers on the test because some questions are tricky and you should do fine. I would def take her again!

The class was large, yeah, but I was involved and thought this prof was great, despite the number of students and some jerks in the class. Professor Schmitt is the most adorable women in the whole world! She?s grandma-like, except she travels the world and wears hipster clothing. Professor Doreen Schmitt is a really really great professor. You just have to make the effort to keep your head in the game. There was just a midterm and a final so make sure you study your material well. The class is really interesting and she does keep your interest in the class to quite an extent. An OK class. She was very clear with her material and let you know what was going to be on exams. Sometimes the wording was a bit confusing but overall she was good. I got a B+ but wished I got a higher grade. She is easy to ask questions to and seemed very involved in her subject.

Had this prof for past SS1, short semester. In a word, "GREAT"! Makes material understandable, always available to answer questions or clarify. Provides the whole picture and motivating background of theories and context of material we worked with--so it was placed into perspective. So knowledgeable and caring--and sharp humor, too!

Professor Schmitt is by far the most amazing professor I have ever had. I took her first for Anthro 104 and then again for Anthro 289. You can tell how passionate she is about everything she does and says, and really holds the class's attention. She is straight forward, rarely gives homework and tests are always based on what we learn and reviews.

Her lectures are amazing but make sure you go through with all of her hands out. I took in summer S1. Prof Schmidt is excellent; take her! The class covers how language relates to humans & it's place in the world. This class is based on tests (breakdown wasn't given out). The material was fun to learn, it reminded me of a sociology class. The prof is funny and enforces coming to class. She gives out handouts but if you don't come to class you're just playing yourself. A textbook is needed from the queens copy center but I didn't use it much so it was a waste

Pretty simple and straightforward lecture course. Overall, the class is kind of boring. Professor Schmitt is probably in her sixties and gives out lots of handouts that basically give you what you need to know for the midterm and final. In hindsight, I do not recommend purchasing the $35 packet assigned for readings; the handouts ensure you an A.

Professor Schmitt is very knowledgeable in her field. I took her for the SS1, and the grade for the class is solely based on the midterm and final. The Midterm and Final can be a little tricky, but make sure that you study the handouts repeatedly because the exams are based on it. Beware that the only extra credit in the class is on the final exam.

Not an easy subject, but Pro. Schmitt breaks the material down. There is no extra credit, except for one question on the final exam. There is only a Midterm and Final, so you have to do well on them, However, if you study the handouts that she provide and practice the exercises you should do well. You must learn to do the tree diagram.

Summer 4W2- You're graded based on a midterm and final both of which are primarily multiple choice, except for the final in which you're expected to draw a tree diagram (1 more given for extra credit). The final is not cumulative. Study handouts. Reading from textbook is not necessary. Drops in a few jokes occasionally to keep class entertaining.

No textbook, but requires a packet worth $20+, the rest of her sources provided online or in class. hard class, but doable, most esp she's an amazing professor! Reviewers are her exams!

She has a book that can be purchased at the copy center, I used it close to tests to skim cause she does ask qs from the book. She goes over almost everything on the test during the lectures, so if you go to class, its not difficult to pass. She only grades based off the midterm and final. Overall great expirience in her class.

She is a lovely little old lady (old school new yorker); her grading criteria are easy and straightforward. Sometimes she babbles off-topic or tells stories, but she is sweet and caring. Show up to class and skim the reading/ class notes since the subject is dense (especially for summer). But overall good professor I recommend taking her.

one of the best professors in QC. took her for summer LCD- 2 exams which were basically based of the quizzes she gave in class. If you come to class daily, she bumps up your grade by 1/2 a letter grade. For ex, A- goes to A. Tests are simple. Easy A. She is a gem!

She is one of the best professor in queens college. I took her for summer session. She makes everything so easy. There were 2 exams. midterm and final. 95% MCQs and a tree diagram. No book required. Everything based on the handouts she gives in class. Overall great professor. Easy A.

she is a hilarious lady, made us laugh. posts book on bb so u don't have 2 buy. gives take home quizzes which are not graded but good to see if u know ur stuff. no EC except for tree question on final. she tries to trick you (does this never, sometimes, always or usually happen?). mean to those who don't do well and tells them to drop the class.

She was awesome!! She really cares about her students and provides us with all the information and worksheets needed to do well in her class.

Took her for ANTH 289 too. She's firm, but fair. Exams are pretty easy and 90% straight from her lecture/handouts. If you show up to class and study the handouts, you'll pass easily. For 104, if you have good attendance, your grade gets a nice bump too. Despite her no nonsense policy, she's actually one of the sweetest professors you'll have. Gem!

great professor - shes so sweet, and tries to make lectures interesting. attendance isnt mandatory, but she does bump your grade up if you show up most of the time. there was a book assigned but i never used it and still did well. only way to get the notes is to come to class, though. only graded on the midterm & final, study guides given online

Professor Schmitt is a good one. Her lectures are fun and she discusses a lot of outside topics, which is good. You are graded on two quizzes, a midterm, and, a final. THERE IS NO EXTRA CREDIT!! She gives you topics that are going to be on the midterm and final. Make the review sheet on that and you should be fine. Take her!

I really enjoyed this class. Professor Schmitt is so funny and while her lectures consist of her speaking the entire time, she is straight forward and clear on what she expects from you. Everything she says is on the handouts. The topics get a little wacky sometimes which is fun and get ready to hear a lot of chirping from her bird!

sweetest woman ever! she is a great professor and a very funny person. let her personality shine through her teaching which made students feel closer to her which made me want to come to class and do well. looked forward to seeing her.

She is so hilarious and you can tell she takes pride in what she teaches. She doesn't do powerpoints but sends out the notes on a sheet. She also gives out review sheets before the exams which include almost everything that will be on there. Only negative is that you're only graded by 4 things. So definitely show up to class.

Kind and entertaining lady that follows a simple protocol: everything that's on her notes is exactly what's on her tests- no funny business. I aced all her tests just by reviewing the lecture notes and answering the questions on her review sheet. This was an organized and simple class. I didn't show up to most lectures. A minimal effort class.

I have never had a professor that was so understanding of a topic. She made it interesting to learn. Do show up to class because she counts attendance and she only gives out handouts that she goes over in class. I did pretty well just answering the questions on her review sheets. Its a pretty simple and easy class if you show up and do minimal work

Not sure what the bad reviews are for, this was the easiest class I have ever taken in QC. Grade was based on attendance, midterm and final. Both were multiple choice and she gives review sheets for both that make studying for them really easy. Only downside is no laptops/phones, she is kind of old fashion but really fun to talk with.

Professor Schmitt makes this class a breeze. Just review the lecture notes and handouts, and you'll ace the midterm and final. Unstuck AI is a great study tool too!
