she does not care about her student's progress and does not help you with anything.
Not an average English teacher, very amusing and really helpful,
She doesn't make herself plain about anything. She will give you your paper back, you correct it and give it back to her. She then marks stuff out that she could have done the first time you gave it to her. I guess she is set in her ways, but she needs to take a chill pill sometimes.
She is one of the worst teachers I have had. No matter how you interpret a story, if it's not the exact same as what she thinks, then its wrong. She is a big time liberal and likes to discuss politics. If you don't agree with that, then DON'T take this class.
GOOD TEACHER
she is a very nice teacher. Sometimes she is picky when grading, just do what she says and you will be ok. She is easy in most cases, and she is always there for help. recommended!!!
This lady is so weird and unhelpful. The beginning of the class is easy but later on she makes you become stressed and angry. She is known for loosing your work and saying shell give you credit but actually DONT. I strongly suggest take another engl teacher because she is a WASTE OF TIME.
She scared out half the class the first day and couldn't ever tell you what she wanted. What you wrote however, never seemed to be good enough. I'd reccomend you skip her especially if you don't like morbid stories.
I didn't think I would like her at first b/c she's a big feminist, but she was great! She made it clear to us what she was looking for, and her stories made class interesting. I highly recommend her, but only for mature students with an open mind.
Never prepared, except for internet exerps about poets. Highly defensive if you don't share her view of a poem, and unorganized when it comes to assignments, essays and test. When you correct a mistake in the draft she'll mark the correction she told you to make as beinging incorrect upon another submission.
I found Dr. Larue to be quite helpful. She offered some good tips for writing the poems and the short story which were required for this class. I am willing to bet the students who rated her poorly never bothered to stop by her office and ask for help. I personally plan on taking her again for another course should one come up I can take.
Nothing is ever good enough for her and the only thing she is clear about is that she should not be teaching anything
She is an awesome teacher. She can be quirky, but that is what is so great about her. She allows you to speak your mind and really dig into the stories that you read. This class really taught me new things about writing.
This teacher was quite possibly the worst english teacher I've ever had. She was never organized, and basically all she did was ramble the whole hour. I would not suggest her to anyone if someone paid me a million dollars.
Professor Larue is by far the most unorganized english teacher I have ever encountered! She never made it clear what she expected from assigned papers. Also, never EVER in her office during office hours. Four papers, one final...
I've had 2 classes with her thus far. She's a little different. Overall, once u get into it... she's quite good at what she does. NO TESTS!!! Only papers to write.
Horrible teacher. Majority of the class she pretty much talks to herself because shes managed to put everyone to sleep. Only chance to get an A is to write the essays based on HER perspective. Definately hinders creativity. Avoid if you have a good GPA.
She made me actually enjoy english class
She is alright. She is kind of boring. You listen to her give an incoherent book report for the entire class. She is kind of moody, one day she is happy to help, the next say she is not and just ignores your question. Took a subject I was highly interested in and made it boring. I'd say she is pretty nice, but I wouldn't recommend.
Very unorganized!! Little spacey but this is not a demnading class at all. Just write the papers. You don't really have to read the stories just pay attention in class. Should be an easy A if you can write a paper at all.
Dr. Larue class was fair. She's a down to earth person. Simple than some may think.
Mrs. LaRuw has to be the worst teacher ever. Unorganized would be an under statement, and she never has a definite answer for anything you ask her. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Do not take this professor
I wouldnt take her ever again even if she was the last teacher on earth. she is very disorganized and not very helpful. if you can avoid taking this her if you can
At first glance of reading the other comments i tried to give larue the benefit of the doubt but the comments on here are an understatement...SHE IS VERY UNORGANIZED...NEVER WILLING TO HELP; VERY MOODY; LOOSES YOUR WORK AND STATES IN HER SYLABUS THAT SHES NOT RESPONSIBLE IF SHE LOOSES IT...NEVER HAS A DEFINATE ANSWER...FORGETFULL
I am currently in her class and wish I could drop and have another professor. She does NOT teach you anything. She sits at the front of class and plays games on the computer. When turning in a paper she puts all these markings and never tells you what to fix just do the paper over. We don't take notes in class and aren't learning anything.
Larue is by far the worst professor I've had yet! She is very unorganized, doesn't set concrete dates, will not respond to your emails or be willing to help, and just reads to us every single class period. Don't take her if you can help it!
Boy! These commments on LaRue are definitely not what I expected. True, she is rather a bit forgettful and unorganized but I enjoyed the stories even though they were rather depressing. Fair grading system though. One of my less stressful classes. And I thank her for it and looked forward to attending her classes.
Mrs. Larue well dont take her if you disagree with her liberal ideology she is alittle crazy she loses your papers all the time. she is so subjective on your writing and if you write something she doesnt like then you can expect a "F" on the paper. she is the worst english teacher i have ever had.She is mean and doesnt care about you or her clarity
I love Mrs. Larue! yea she is unorganized most of the time..but that leaves more time to work on papers! and all you have to do is write a rough copy and ask her to reviw it and just make the changes she wants and you will be set! but you have to go to class...otherwise you won't have any idea what is expected when
I love Dr. Larue. She is bit goofy, but overall a good teacher. You are assured an A if you Ask questions and get her to proofread your papers! She is very helpful in the sense that she literally helps you earn an A! She loves when you participate and come to class. The more she knows you the better you'll do because she cares.
Great teacher! Go to class, participate, and ask for help with papers and your assured an A. She is willing to proofread your work beforehand which is amazingly helpful in achieving an A. Of course, it is great to start the papers early so you have time to get her opinion. The more she knows about how serious you are about her class, the better! Loveable woman and corky teacher!
Dr. LaRue is a great professor. She tells you straightforward what is needs to be known for the tests and for the research paper. Yes, she can be a bit disorganized at times - it really did not affect the class in the least. Her tests come straight from what she tells you and from what is assigned to be read. Quizzes are also easy. Great professor!
She sucks as a teacher! she doesnt do anything and get mad at you when you have emergencies. She should be fired and put under a bridge!!
i got tired of here asking us if were on drugs everytime we came to class. she does not need to be teaching anymore.
She is a great teacher! She tells you everything you need to know. You are allowed to bring her your papers for her to proofread before you turn them in. She read every story aloud in class and asked our opinion. If you come to class or know how to read you should pass this class. Great Great teacher!
Dr. Larue is a good professor. She can be a scatter brain at times, but she's really great. I had for english literature 210, and she made me interested in a course I had no interest in. She gives you all the information you need for the test, all you have to do is study.
Dr. LaRue scared me at first because she was so unclear and unorganized. I really enjoyed the class in the end because you don't have to do anything except write essays. In order to get an A, go to class, PARTICIPATE, and let her look over your essays a week before they are due. She will give you great tips and loves when you go see her for help.
The tests and quizzes weren't THAT bad if you paid attention. However, you write a lot of essays. She grades extremely tough. But if you go to her office prior to the due date you will get an A easy. She will sit right there and correct everything.
The very worst English professor I have ever had! All she does is sits in front of the class and reads off of Wikipedia and Enotes. We were a month behind schedule, and she never knows what she is talking about. She made me want to change my major! Avoid her at all costs!
Weird class. I feel like most English courses are graded subjectively whether the teacher likes you or not. I failed a paper completely and still made a B. Not that I had a bad paper, but she really wanted my analyses to be really feminist, and when I learned that I made A's on everything.
Dr. Larue... I have mixed feelings about this class. I think she means well, but she tends to be very scatter-brained and, like others have said, very subjective about her grades concerning the papers. Still, I like her enthusiasm for the material.
I liked Dr. Larue a lot. She was funny and made intro to fiction interesting. She grades pretty easily in my oppinion and she only gives 3 essays and 1 research paper that really isnt hard at all. She has no paper length requirments either as long as the paper is good. I would reccomend taking her for this class!
Awesome professor!! Highly recommend Dr. LaRue!! She is very sweet, she loves literature, and makes learning fun and interesting. She assigns 3 papers. As long as you put forth the effort you will be pleased with the grade you earn! I loved her class and would thoroughly enjoy taking her again for another class!!
Alright, so Larue is the WORST professor out there. She will tell you at the beginning of the class that it is a "theory class" and everything is correct as long as proof is present. But in her paper, go with what she says or you'll get a D. Don't make your own theory. I know, sucks right?
Self-proclaimed "hippie chick", seemed more interested in discussing the stories than actually teaching anything. Gives vague criteria for papers, then gives low grades with little feedback explaining why. Got our class mixed up with another one several times, causing confusion for all involved. Do not recommend.
Definitely scatter-brained. She'll help you if you ask, although her answer is usually unsatisfactory. She is pretty set in her ideas on the symbolism of text, so make sure to pander to her. She usually tells you all that you need to correct, so a high grade is easily possible. Probably not a good class for Freshmen.
In one semester, I only had to write three papers and one research paper. Most class days you read a story or watch the film adaptation of the short story. If you need help, or want an A on an essay, go to her office. Four pop quizzes a semester, topic chosen by students. Easy A.
Only assigned 4 papers the entire semester. She does an example in class and you're allowed to use it ( just change the wording) so if you're bad at writing you've got a little help. A lot of class time was spent reading a short story, poem, or play, and then discussing it.
Dr Larue is a great teacher
If you are not a great writer this class will help you improve a little. She is not very clear on what she expects. She believes she is giving great examples but she does not. There are three 8 -10 page papers, a midterm, a final and small assignments that make up one grade. In her classes she mainly reads to us cover rhetorical devices.
Let's you rewrite F papers for no more than a C- . Lively classes. Funny. Likes everyone to voice opinion. Takes late papers with good sob story.
Easy A. Just follow instructions. She puts outlines for essays on the board for every short story then we choose which one we want to write about. If you miss class the outlines are in the library behind the circulation desk. Take notes and you'll have a lot to say. She likes lots of class participation.
Takes email rough copies and gives good feedback. Very nice. Can rewrite for higher grade if you ask.
Must be familiar with entire plot of 5 novels + 3 films then take selected quotes and relate them to the whole novel, showing how it "proves" some bit of critical theory she gives you. Home work helps on tests and paper but do it her way. Made me think my thesis and research paper sucked but got A. Lots of powerpoints and videos. Sometimes fun.
3 ten page papers; a nature, a place, and a science. She is a hard grader, and her feedback may or may not be helpful. Your first paper will determine your ending grade. She will say you are doing better, but your grades do not reflect what she says. There is a midterm, a final, and 4 quizzes that equal one grade. ALL BOOKS REQUIRED DAILY!
It is very important that you attend the class and do the reading, otherwise you will have a hard time passing. She is an accommodating teacher but seriously do not take anything for granted. I found it difficult to understand what she wanted for writing papers and even when you asked for clarification it was not any more helpful. Beware this prof
I was originally a sociolgy major but switched to humanities to graduate faster. I'm not a big humanities person, but Larue is very caring and will accomedate your life circumstances.
Dr. LaRue was a GREAT Professor! Her feedback helped me improve so much from my first paper ( MLA citations). She is always accessible after class if you want to improve your paper. Also, email her a rough copy of your paper and ask for feedback before it is due. I received no less than an A on all my papers because of her clead expectations
I love this teacher! I know exactly what's expected of me and when it's due. In class she gives you all of the information you need to write your essays. All you really have to do is show up, listen to the stories, jot down notes and find quotes to support said points.
Loved this class! Show up, listen, and you'll pass. Dr. LaRue is one of my favorite people.
There is little discussion in the actual class about the stories because she reads them to you. She only wants to talk about how she feels about the story and won't listen to different opinions. She is a super tough grader. I've never made less than an A on an English paper and she gave me a C.
Dr. LaRue is one of my favorite teachers. She really values effort. If you take your paper to her for feedback before turning it in, she will show you exactly what to do to fix it. She reads the stories in class and goes over the exact structure she expects for essays to be written in. It's an easy A and she's still one of my favorite teachers.
Gave me wrong directions for an essay twice. My grade suffered for it. Had no lenience though; she expects you to be telepathic. Instructions are so unclear it drove me insane. Would not recommend.
I took her for English 115 and I never made over a C on any paper. Her criteria was unclear for a lot & she made me feel belittled/dumb when I asked her questions or to explain something.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Does not explain how to do any of the assignments and expects it to be perfect. The syllabus literally says i'm going to assume you know how to do this. Contradicts herself on grading criteria. Overly Sexual for no reason. You literally have to write thinking this is how she would write it if not it's wrong.
She reads from the book and expected you to already understand it. Gives out outlines or quizzes failed most of us on them. Expect its to be exactly like the transcripts. Asked for help with first essay refused to help. Claimed everything was on moodle. But would assist in understanding the information.
She is a bit particular about her papers, but you can tell she puts effort into picking out the stories we read. If you prefer paper-heavy classes with no tests or homework, then a recommend her. She is always down to read over papers before its time to submit, which is very convenient!
Good but first time teaching new course material. Book is very inexpensive. Very open minded, but with clear criteria. 2 large individual projects and 1 group project. Still very easy class. Easy A, She can't hear well, so be prepared for loud videos. Lots of in class writing, but still very easy.
Dr. LaRue's class in not that bad and is actually easy to get an A. She is openminded and only gives 2 major assignments and a group project, which are essays.
If you're good at writing argumentative papers it can be an easy A, but she can sometime be unclear & confusing about feedback. Offered extra credit a lot cuz we were ahead. She's very sweet & accomodating if you communicate with her. Discussions were a bit boring but you can only miss 3 classes. She does care about your grade unlike others.
Getting feedback is just as bad as her directions. She gave us two finals which I felt was a bit much. We also were faced with her approving things in class but when we submitted it, she'd give us a poor grade. This class was horrible and very stressful. You must write what you think she will write or it's wrong.
This professor is very knowledgeable in the English content she teaches and cares for each of her students! I enjoyed taking her poetry class, but I do not remember the course number. Being able to have our poetry published was just another highlight of her class. She is very kind and will meet your needs if you are having difficulties.
She confuses herself.
I had Dr. Dorie Larue for English 115, which was all right. I earned an A, but English 215 was a whole different thing. There are so many assignments and a research paper, which is the most stressful. The directions never make sense, and I get even more confused when I ask. I don't recommend it if you hate writing essays.
Professor Larue's class is extremely easy, but she can get confused at times due to the fact that she forgets a lot of things. Instructions can be unclear, but as long as you show up and try you should pass. She is also not a tough grader and she is kind.
To whomever it may concern, LaRue has got to be one of the worst professors at LSUS. Her assignments are never clear, most of the class has no idea what they're doing most of the time and she will give negative feedback on essays because we didn't write what she wanted us to write because she thinks we're mind-readers. Don't take this class.
get me out of this class bro she is too old to be teaching. everything is woke propaganda and she USES CHAT GBT AND COPILOT TO TEACH!
if u leave to take a piss or a phone call she marks u absent
Great person not good teacher Confuses her self and the students along with her you ask her a question and she just gives you an indirect complicated answer
i thought seriously about hitting a tree on my way to her lecture so that maybe i would not live to be in her class
this is just insane. Ms. LaRue needs to retire. this is the second professor i have had at LSUS that is too old to the point of incompetence. you're telling me my grade is in her hands? and she doesn't even know how to use the gradebook? and is confused by her own point system?? this is unacceptable.
She is never prepared for class, and her instructions are never clear. When you try to get clarification, she gets confused by her own instructions. If you don't write how she would have written something, she gives you a bad grade. She takes forever to grade assignments and asks you to remind her to grade your assignments.
