Horrific way of teaching. Her exams are very vague and she does not review for the exams. You take a lots of dictation in her class on an average of 4-6 pages a class. I believe the highest score in her class was a B. Good luck!!!
Not nearly enough time is spent on PACs or political parties. Way too much time is spent on her personal agenda of promoting social activism. She is moody and has very leftist views.
Her classes are boring and it feels like High School. Doesn't allow lateness, doesn't allow people to leave during class,or even leave the room to receive a phone call even if it is important. Teaching method involves DICTATION! Expect to take notes alot

She's very knowledgeable but cannot teach. All you'll learn is DICTATION so prepare to wirte alot. She is very moody and likes to complicate things. I had never taken a 100 level class that was has hard and boring as this. Good luck!!!
I hate this teacher, she thinks she's teaching babies one minute then the other she thinks she's teaching GOV majors. It was a 101 class for godsake and she expected us to know EVERYTHING. Good luck if you got her, but my advice to JJ is fire her.

Not like me to say this, but avoid this prof at all costs. I am a solid 4.0 student and struggled to keep an A- in this class. She is extremely unhelpful, her policies are insane, she's completely inflexible about everything. No review at all, vague about what her expectations are. Terrible prof.
Nasty. The entire class is nothing but taking dictation. She takes students' bags away during tests because she thinks they might be cheating. She berated several students with learning difficulties in front of the class.

What an excellent professor. Very helpful, clear, precise and to-the-point. Very refreshing to have a Professor like her- all should be like her. Her tests were cake, she doesn't care about attendance. I learned more from her in one semester than from all my Professors combined. God Bless Her!

She is nice, better than some of the teachers i have in the past but she is a control freak. One girl attempted to drop the class before the first test and she told her no that she had to see how she does first, waved her hand in the air and walked away.By chance she is reading this we are not you children, we can make mature choices without you.

I'll admit, she's not an easy grader and she likes things done her way. She really liked the class I was in (it was a night class with older students as opposed to a 101 course), so maybe that made it better. I actually liked the class, for the most part. She's also very understanding if you give her a chance to work with her.

Do not take her . I will guarantee you that you will regret it if you dont take this into consideration. This woman is beyond been difficult. she is unhuman and horribleaat teaching. if you dont want to have a headache for the rest of your life just keep away from her.

This class is hard. The professor knows her stuff but is very strict. This class consists of 3 exams (all essays) and a 15 page paper. Be prepared to work in this class. A lot of reading involved. She is not the easiest professor by far but shes not the worst either. In the end I would say stay away if your looking for an easy class.
She really knows her stuff and the exams are based on the notes only. Far too much notes, though. I don't like to read, but I read a little and attended every class. My notes were a GodSend, all the people complaining have only themselves to blame. The class is extremely easy to pass, all you have to do is review your notes and pay attention in class. Yes cell phones are shunned, but for good reason, AND it's against school rules.A+ for her def
The professor is really good , I wish all my professors were like her . If you do your reading , attend classes , make notes you will definetly succseed . She is very understanding , always ready to help . Her classes are extremly interesting . I just do not understand how people do not like her .
She knows her stuff, and teaches it well. Reading is mandatory in her class. Make sure you come prepared to answer questions. The tests are all based on notes. She is however very strict and at times makes a student feel low when they try to challenge her with good questions.
I dont care what anyone says, but Tetens is the best. At first i didnt want to take her because of her ratings but she really knows how to teach and all you have to do is read and the midterm and final would be a piece of cake. there is a lot of note taking but its your study guide for the tests.
Truly, ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS AT JJ!!! She explains her assignments clearly and many times so that everyone will understand. She is strict in class but also approachable. Always feel free to speak to her. She knows the topic really well. I learned a lot. Her class is very interesting. She is strict about attendance and coming in on time though.
I love Prof. Tetens. She's hard as he*l but she knows her stuff. Her intelligence is attractive! You will be very productive and learn a lot. Do your readings, take your notes, study for exams - you'll survive AND GET A GOOD GRADE IF YOU EARN IT!

Teacher is horrible. All she does is make you take notes, half the time she wont write them on the board. The class consist of a midterm, final and a final paper. She gives a midterm, paper, and final. If you can organize your notes and write neatly you will pass the tests. I could barely read my handwriting ,but everything in the notes was on the test. She gives a shiPty 2 minute review for each exam. She is a tough grader. You need the main textbook the other books she assigns you can get away with

I will start this off by saying she is VERY VERY SMART. HOWEVER!! the amount of work and level of performance she expects for a 101 class is absurd. She grades harshly and if you don't spend every waking moment of class paying attention and taking notes, and then studying you won't do well. There wasnt enough time to finish the midterm either

She is very tough, but great if you're starting a career in political science or want to attend law school. Class requires A LOT of note-taking; you MUST do homework and participate in class. 2 exams + 1 paper, you can't fail any or you won't pass the class. She is always willing to help and tells you in class everything she wants you to know.
Amazing Professor! Class is not easy, but it shouldnt be its college! Take good notes, READ, ask intelligent questions and you will be fine. I love this professor and would take her again if I could. You will leave this class having learned something!
Tetens is very straight forward. She expects you to read the textbook before you come to class and then you have a discussion on it. Her class is straight lecture. She talks for the period and you have to take notes. Only 2 test for her class, midterm and final. Got a decent grade although I never read the book and I never participated.
She never uses study guides prior her exams. Sometimes takes things too personally that could bring one to student teacher conflict. Students feel worried before every exam which means that, they are afraid to fail - i think she should be more encouraging rather then act like an evil professor. Not the bess experience and would never take her again
She is very tough but if you listen l, read and write it is not that hard to get a B. You will be very successful in the field by learning from her.
my main problem with her is that she doesn't give notes. she writes an outline of the class on the board, and then dictates everything else. she then expects you to copy it and spit it back at her, word-for-word, on exams. if you don't, you lose points. 80% of the class is her repeating herself 3+ times for this reason. i'd go with someone else.
Please do not take this class... i took it to fill up my electives and it was the worst decision ever!! you take 7 pages of notes each lecture... 2 tests and a paper. She expects you to be a master at political science..
Professor Tetens is an amazing professor, she is very knowledgeable on her subject. She is all about lecturing and you do have to read and do work for her class. If you are not ready for a College Course do not take her, because her class is a real college course. midterm, paper, final, that's it. Actually learned! Def would take her again!

She seems like a nice person but she is a bad first semester teacher. It was as if she was teaching POL 101 and 201 in one semester. Expected you to teach yourself. She includes her liberal views in lectures. Almost failed. She can be nasty at times. Would never take her again
Very knowledgeable and precise, but very rude and obnoxious. Makes you feel like you're being penalized for having any questions in regards to the content. Has a mean look on her face 90% of the lecture. Wastes time complaining about students who don't do the work. Will never take another one of her classes again.

Very unresponsive in the context of feedback, complains way too much for a grown woman, and has a highly unpleasant attitude. Nevertheless, she's brilliant and thorough. Would've been better off working a career that didn't involve human interaction.
You will work for every point you earn. Reading will take up a large percentage of your study time. You will have homework regularly, and you are expected to participate in class or you will be penalized. Conversely, you will learn a great deal and have a thorough understanding of U.S politics. You will get your monies worth.
NEVER TAKE HER CLASS. If you don't want to get into depression, then avoid her. Very unorganized lectures. You don't understand she is giving a lecture or just talking with the mean face. She requires four books for just one semester, which is insane. I regret that I took her class. POL 101 should be easy introduction class, but was struggle.
Honestly, She's a moderate teacher. One of my worst though.. She is childish and immature to certain things, but she is very knowledgable and likes to teach. Her social issues need work but she's also a tough teacher. Long lectures will have you sleeping but she expects all notes to be written at all times. My advise? Take someone else. Its 101.

Stickler for details, and never stops talking. You should just glue your pen to your hand because you will need to write down every word she says. It will show up on the test, trust me. Even side conversations had in class showed up as extra credit on the test! As long as you are engaged in her class you will do really well. Do all of the reading!

Worst class ever. Took as a 101 class to fill a credit requirement. Way too much work for a 101 class, I've taken 300 classes that didn't require this much. Test is all essay questions. Trust me don't take this class if you just need it for a prerequisite or credit, it's totally not worth the work for a 101 class. Also the class requires 4 books.

I didn't have any interest in Amer gov't but by the end I was definitely interested. She is petty at times and like the other reviews said, she needs to work on her social skills. If you put in 70% effort you'll get a good grade - otherwise skip. Lots of notes but you actually get your moneys worth.
You need to participate in order to pass. She can be rude and mean but if she likes you you're okay. She also doesn't care if your answer is wrong as long as you participate in the discussion. The entire class is reading from the books and tests you on the information read even of not discussed in class.

Write every word you hear. The readings are usually discussed in class so you can bring the book with you and just catch up since another student probably read it. She gives low stakes assignments that are kinda like extra credit. Don't be late. The answers to the 2 test are in the books, and discussed in class so take good notes.

Long and drawn out lectures, gives unnecessarily vague answers for simple questions, hard to talk with.
The tests are tough, we dont have many homeworks other than reading the textbook which takes up a lot of time and get ready to take notes. And if you thought you could go average pace in this class then you're wrong because you go 100miles an hour with the note taking. Overall it was stressful but she's funny and she knows what shes talking about

Worst professor I've taken. Expects you to read over 50 pages in one day, as if you don't have other classes. Random pop quiz, no homework, but a lot of reading. Extremely rude and confrontational, doesnt provide any reviews for exam tells you just read your notes and says If you know it you know, if you dont you dont. Is often late to class, lectures for the whole entire class no break for the student to use the bathroom. She gets easily irratated when asked to repeat herself, wouldnt recommend her.

I took POL101 with Professor Tetens and she teaches this class at like a 301 level. She made us buy four textbooks and we didn't even use the last two and all she did was lecture and barely wrote down notes. She was a tough grader and was very strict about showing up late or not showing up at all. You're only graded on three throughout the semester

Get ready to take bunch of notes. Notes are extremely important! Good teacher but for a 101 class she drags it to the absolute max. For the final we had to write 5-6 essays! If you love taking notes than thats your class.
Although I initially found her class a bit difficult, if you honestly put in the work and participate then you really shouldnt have a problem with this class. However, if you do not like reading or have a difficult time following along with a verbal lecture, then I definitely do not recommend this class. Otherwise the class was great!
She is a horrible teacher. She made online school hell for me. She spoke too quick and was very difficult to write notes for, not only that she doesn't write notes. Horrible with technology. She barely responds to emails unless literally the whole class emails her. I love politics and history but she made me hate this class.
At the start of the semester she told us we weren't allowed to smile or laugh on camera which was weird. You have to buy books for the class but you don't really need it if you know American gov already. She gave three 5-7 page papers at the ending of the semester which felt rushed.
Her lectures are very boring but if you engage in class discussion when you get the chance you will likely enjoy them. Lectures are boring, you really need to pay attention because she goes fast, and this class would probably be easier in person. I personally really like her, I didn't at first. She's kind hearted and her attitude is funny.

If you can't handle her you're honestly weak and lazy. You need to reevaluate why you're even in college, because you've got something coming.

1 of the worst professors I've ever had in college. I took her during a PANDEMIC and she was ridiculous with all the "demands" she had. I say demands because she speaks to you as if you're a child. NEED to have our cameras on, can't laugh/smile or she'll call you out. Her attitude is disgusting. 3 6-8 page papers with short notice. Don't take her.
Does not record the lectures and you have to be taking notes during the whole class time. Just do not take her if you're a freshman, you're probably used to the workload she has you do.
Professor Tetens has a strong personality, she demands your respect and attention so as long as you give her that you'll be fine. The course load is a lot of work, but it's POL 101 so what do you expect. Only three papers though so you have to pay attention to the lectures and the readings. She is clear with the criteria and gives feedback.
First off, you are required to buy an expensive textbook that we barely even used throughout the semester. Second, she literally refused to record our lectures, instead, she just spoke the entire time. She was aggressive to everyone for no reason, even when people would ask simple questions. Do yourself a favor and take pol 101 with another prof.
There were only 3 assignments but were extremely clear with plenty of time to do them. The only issue was not having feedback and so much reading. If you dont want to read, dont take the class. In class lecture was always clear and concise and she was overall an understanding teacher. Just participate and get a jump on your work so its not late
Professor Tetens is one of my favorite professors, this is my second semester taking her course. She does have a bit of an attitude, and she will always fact check you and keep you in line, especially if you don't agree with her. There were three reading responses (1-2 pg) and three papers (5-7 and 7-8 pg), and you will need your notes and textbook
Lots of reading every week, 3 assignments ONLY - just papers. She's a pretty tough grader so do your best. She's nice & lenient gave extensions on papers. Papers are a little confusing so seek help immediately if necessary. Participation matters!!!!!
LOTS AND LOTS OF READING. If you do not like to read, do not take a class with Professor Tetens. Only 3 papers for the whole semester (5-7 pages long).She doesnt record lectures or have slides but sometimes uploads outlines for the lecture/reading assignment.

This professor is overall understanding, and helpful in her own right. But the thing that I struggled with the most in her class is with note taking. Alot of the time she reiterates the same few main points over the course of 3 ot 4 classes. While asking for help she will be informative but has a tendency to talk over you when trying to speak.
This professor made me feel like an actual first grader. She would just repeat the same topic over again like a broken record and try to simplify it for no reason. I will say that she is helpful but has a knack for putting you on the spot to embarrass you in front of other people. Please take another class for your own wellbeing.
This professor is your actual worst nightmare. Very rude and has a bad attitude and if you don't agree with her ideologies, she turns the whole lecture about the twice-impeached former president. Please don't take her. YOU SEE HER NAME RUN HONESTLY. She made me feel small multiple times and embarrasses me in class.
Professor Tetens is a passionate educator who has deep passion for women's rights. I respect her for her views. As far as the class is concerned it is a difficult one so prepare to read a lot of material and participate. You will not coast through in her class. Put in the effort and work hard and you will get a good grade.
I took this class on asynchronous class and she assigns so many homework and paper and she expects you to finish within week. She sometimes gives you extension date for paper but that's not enough. If you need to take POL 101, do no take her. Choose someone else. I strongly do not recommend this prof.
If you want to do a 2-3 page paper everyweek and a ton of reading then take this class if not THEN AVOID THIS AT ALL COST
Assignment instructions are rambling and unclear, will need to be read multiple times to be understood. Additional instructions will be put in two places. Requires students to submit work through email but posts announcements on Blackboard. Difficult grader and will nitpick over small issues. Very slow grader and doesn't use Blackboard for grades
This professor gives you a 4 page PDF of instructions on your paper, yes you have to read everything. She removes the DBs before they are due, claims that blackboard is the problem but it is her deleting them. I just received my second paper grade a day after the final paper was due. She is a harsh grader and be ready to the actual SCOTUS cases
Just avoid at all costs!!! She is disrespectful and aggressive
Lots of reading and writing for this course, but Professor Tetens is clear and understanding. Stay on top of assignments, use helpful tools like Unstuck AI, and you'll do well.
For an Intro class, the reading and assignments were very demanding. You can tell that she's passionate about what she is teaching and is good with giving written feedback on assignments. BUT she is very passive aggressive and disrespectful in the way she speaks. The class is taught clearly however it doesn't make up for the fact that she is rude.
