She's nice and likes to talk, which makes class interesting.
She is rude and seems insecure.
Very rude
No Comments
Doris Jones is not a very good teacher. If you study with the book you should have good grades but at the end of each test you have to write an essay.
she really makes it easy for you to do well. she seems to enjoy her job. she doesn't act like you're stupid for asking a question and answers all your "politically incorrect" questions. i don't know why the other people on here didn't like her.
boring, rude
She's a little strange, but generally an easy going teacher. She tries to make it interesting. You can tell she's been teaching for a while! She's a little worn out!
She is a really funny teacher, not to mention nice and sweet.Anyone who says different doesn't know a good teacher form a bad one, they just think they are all the same.
Good teacher, knows a lot about the subject! She's willing to help and very nice! Gets off subject pretty easily, which is good for pushing test dates back! Very easy A, just pay attention! Notes can be printed off her website word for word!
she is very understanding and helpful. i am taking her for GOVT 2305 as well. i got an A in her class. she also genuinely cares about her students.
I had her for both governments and seeing as I had just moved here from CA, learned a LOT about TX government from her. She is great teacher, she does have a few mannerism quirks but for the most part she is genuine, extremely fair and not the least bit high on herself. Interesting enough lectures for entry level government. Take and learn.
Ms. Jones is a great teacher. She's very interesting and always has an amusing lecture. Overall, if you go to class and listen to what she has to say, there's no way you will fail the class.
Pretty easy teacher. Lots of her notes were online so if you print them out and take them to class, youll follow fairly well. she likes laughing at her own jokes so if you can tolerate that, take it for an easy grade
Took her summer class. Was fairly easy, but did need to attend class, take notes, & read online notes. She is ha-ha funny, as well as her personality. She's helpful & nice. Would recommend to students who don't like uptight teachers.
Laughs at her own jokes and comments, is the department busybody, LOVES her dog more than life itself. Essays on the tests but gives them to you before test day. 95% of notes online, don't need to show up for class except to turn things in and get due dates
she always goes off topic and always tells useless stories. you never know when shes talking about what youre suppose to be learning, or a story. she was weird. i guess there was an advantage of having her notes online, but shes really hard to pay attention to bc she always went off topic.
I loved her. She is funny and goes off topic a little bit, but she gives lots of extra credit, puts her notes on the internet, and does quizzes an class. I would love to take her again
I love Mrs. Jones. I took her for US and TX Govt and made A+'s in both classes. She is very funny. She really knows what she is talking about. If you go to class and print her note you will definetly get an A. She gives lots of extra credit. Sometimes she does get off topic but most of the time it funny which ever direction she takes you in
Don't expect an easy A. She will make you work for it, but it is very possible. Her exams are really tough. One really great thing she does is curve the exams. Everyone was curved. She wants you to be very detailed on your essays and there are alot of them. It was online so it was great and she gave all exams online.
Annoying, has class favorites and you don't need to attend to get an A. Lots of extra credit and curves ALOT.
Eww! this lady has extreme problems, talk about hormone issuses! I love history but now i think history sucks only because of ms. jones! Avoid her at all costs!
I took this teacher only for a summer course and she gave way to much work to do. It seemed more like an economic class than a government. She is very unfriendly and does not listen to what you have to say if you would like to discuss things. Avoid!!
Ms. Jones assigns loads of homework and difficult exams and quizzes. Her exams and quizzes are confusing. I took this as a summer class and regretted it. She deducts points for everything, even if you make an error on an essay, but she makes lots of errors in her handouts.Maybe she should proof them before she hands them out.
her class was extremely hard for an online class she was not nice when trying to be contacted and would not take responsibility for her errors and puts them on the students
Do not take this class online if you work, have a family or are very busy. She has a ton of work, essays etc. BUSY WORK. She grades her essays very hard and deducts points for not writing what she wants.
Im taking the online class and I dont understand these negative comments. Her work is NOT hard and the tests are NOT hard but not easy. Your work is cut out for you on the essays and she gives you enough time. I work 30 hours and go to school full time and im aceing this class. these other comments almost made me not take her but im glad I did.
Be ready for homework! Her class is not hard but filled with busy work. She has been prompt (day or two) to get back with answers by email. There are weekly assignments, often two a week with a quiz or test at the same time. I would suggest taking her if you have time to take this class! Good luck.
I took her online class. She was informative and very passionate. She DID give a lot of busy work, but it was easy. I could usually complete the work 10 minutes before it was due and I would get an A. Her tests were harder, which is expected from open book tests, but overall she is a good professor and the class wasn't too incredibly hard.
shes funny and crazy..will give u answers on quizzes just attend class
I took her online class. The only thing I liked about her is she replied to emails promptly. Otherwise, makes you write alot and is a tough grader. Her reviews don't match her quizes, or tests. She keeps changing the due dates. I would always do my assingments early only to learn that the due date has been postponed. You will think it is rocket sci
Very good teacher, she is passionate, timely and respectful. I took her online, lots of discussion boards, quizes were easy. Test, required to study. Plenty of assignments, not real time consuming, just busy work. I would highly recommend her online class. I was able to work fulltime, take four classes and still make an A.
I took her for an online summer course and she is the most heattless women I have ever met. She obviously knew that the test would turn off on you or else she wouldnt have posted on her syllabus to call her RIGHT AWAY after it happend yet she refuses to reset it for you. If you want to fail this class take her. Other wise RUN do not walk from her.
I loved Ms. Jones....took her course at my high school. very helpful and keeps her class lively with interesting stories and jokes. little to no homework, and she wont mind if you miss a class or two. she would bring donuts on each exam day!
Class is a joke difficulty wise, would recommend taking if you don't wanna waste too much effort on time on getting your credit for Texas Government. She actually did teach some interesting things about Local Government though.
just go to class, its an easy A. and she talks to much class is almost a joke... but great teacher, u might even learn a thing or two ;)
You will do many writing assignments for the online version. If you do not cover in your essay all the details the grade is bad. It will be counted wrong if you miss any detail; eventhough it is not specified to list every detail. She is a nice person but expects a lot of detail.
Dorris Jones posts alot of resources such as handouts/study guides, however, most questions on the exams can't be found anywhere in the handouts or the book. She gives one essay a week and they are graded difficultly. Attention to detail is a must in this course. It is not a simple online TX GOV class, but she is knowledgeable about the subject.
Took her online course. This class was very complex. Do not take her if government is not your world. Test are difficult, have multiple answer for test so if you miss one right answer the whole answer is wrong. She grades very hard on writing assignments. Although she doesn't mention how detail she wants the writing assign, she wants it very detail
Horrible
I am by far the last person to enjoy a Government or History class. Mrs. Jones made it interesting and kept me attention. I looked forward to her class. She expects you to do the work, and do it on time. She uses the book a lot & many of her test questions come from lectures and the books. Overall she's great!
I recommend her! Not super wasy but not hard. I do not like government and I find it hard to get interested in but Ms. Jones made the assignments easy. Her tests are hard so make sure you know the course work.
Expectations on assignments were clear. Grading seemed fair and consistent. I took the course in 6 week summer, it was a lot of busy work but rather clear as long as you review online lessons and complete study questions (a must for the exams)…
I am not one to enjoy history or government by any means but out of 50+ college hours this has been one of the most interesting and informitive classes Ive taken! She makes class plesant and tells you things you actually want to know. Doesnt use book, assignments easy and grading fair.
It makes me laugh when I read some people saying this teacher is hard. Not a bit. She even gives you an opportunity in case you fail or miss any class or assignment to make it up. No book needed. But it doesn't mean you'll get an A for free. Go to class and make the work and that's it. Which by the way it is not that hard!
Took this class online, she's a very nice person. She responds to emails quickly and is helpful with any questions you may have. She has an assignment or quiz due at least every other day and had writing assignments due as well so be prepared for lots of work.If you like govt and have enough time to dedicate in this class it should be a breeze.
Great teacher! As long as you do the work you will pass. She is very organized and you know what is expected from you.
Doris is very clear in what she wants and the deadlines are absolute. Just don't get behind and you will be fine. You know exactly what is expected from the beginning. I got an A in Summer 2.
This woman has a very positive attitude and will always make you laugh! She grades really easy as long as you follow the guidelines. Does not follow a book, will not drop you, gave my class a few take home quizzes and the semester final. Wonderful teacher! Highly recommended.
be sure you are a VERY good note taker, dont fall behind and turn everything in on time and youll be fine. tests are RIDICULOUS hardest ive ever had and im a big studier ask lots of questions and take every extra credit op you can No book so everything is posted online shell never assign the reading have to do it on your own to know whats going on
This class was a lot of fun. All of her powerpoints are posted online, extra credit assignments frequently given, and she's VERY active when it comes to events on TCC. Her study guides are posted online as well, and she makes it pretty clear what you need to know for each exam. The textbook is free too, so that's a plus (not that you'll need it).
She is a very nice lady! she has a weird sense of humor but it is funny. This class is not hard but its not easy. YOU HAVE to do the work and take notes. The test are really hard but if you listen and read you will be fine.
Doris is such a sweet lady! she has been working there for about 20 years. Her test are extremely hard but all of her work is easy. She gives you tons of extra credit. I really enjoyed her class. I would recommend her.
I took her for Gov. 1 & 2 if you pay close attention in her class it is very easy to pass and she gives lots of extra credit. She has a funny personality and is a very smart teacher.
My boyfriend and I took Ms Jones for Texas State Government. We are both from other states - liberal states - so we were super skeptical about taking the class. She teaches in a completely unbiased manner, only giving her opinion when appropriate. She is very sweet and wants all of her students to succeed, hence her point-based system. RECOMMEND
this woman is all over the place and political science and history are my strongest subjects, don't take this woman unless you want to do a bunch of learning on your own cause me and most the people i talked to in the class said they haven't learned a thing
Very sweet and funny woman. There was not a day in that class that she did not make me laugh. Her lectures are interesting and they don't drag on. Note taking was not a big thing, just reading a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
1010 would take her class again. she gives SOOO much extra credit it's hard to fail. i literally went to class everyday and worked on other class's homework and just studied her reviews and made a B+ without the extra credit. don't skip class because she only offers ex. cred. to students in class!
EASY A!!!!! A lot of homework, but do you homework and you will get an A. Have study guides for each test. She makes a curve at the end of the semester.
She all over the place, she get off topic really easy I pass this class but by the skin of my teeth, Yes i understand this is college, and you have to work for grades, but just do all the assignment, and you will be fine.
If you show up, listen to her lecture while using her PP's as a guide (which she puts online before the semester), her lecture is easy to follow; she also provides 'handouts' on BB, pertaining to the chapter(s). She uses an "open-source" style, where every viable resource is allowed too. Expect some HW, albeit easy, as long as you put in the time.
I took Doris Jones for Texas Govt. Not a hard class really, but she tends to go off topic in her lectures and not really cover everything that is on her tests so be prepared to have to study on your own sometimes. There are 4 tests and a final exam. She drops your lowest exam and lowest quiz score. Not an easy A, but if you study you can get it.
Do not take this class. Grading scale changes multiple times, making it harder to know where you are in the class. The blackboard is disorganized, and overloaded with information, 50% of it was not useful. Test review sheets are given, but the majority of what you study is not on the test.
She was surprisingly mean-spirited and unorganized from start to finish. Her class was a long, painful ordeal and my worst experience in higher education.
If I wanted to hear someones personal political opinion on government, I would check my newsfeed, thats free.
Not a good teacher. She's kind of all over the place and never really teaches the material. You do a lot of online assignments. I MEAN A LOT. Her tests are very difficult, because she doesn't really teach and isn't clear on things. Not an easy A.
She is over all a good professor, but unless you are on her good side class will be a little tough. She is a little off topic some times but it makes class fun. READ THE REVIEWS. Test are text book to the review, find some study buddies in your class and you will do well
She is just... Amazing! I recommend anyone to take her... Please, do so.
I would not recommend, Professor Jones gets off topic way too easily. How I made an A in this class is beyond me...
we had 4 tests including the final, drops your lowest test grade. she wasn't a bad prof just gets off topic easily, just make sure you pay attention in class, and you should do fine. i would recommend not skipping class!
Online Class. The book is free the teacher give you a link. Mandatory reading. Lessons don't match up with the Chapts in book pay close attention to that. Quizzess in book but can reset answers till its right. Make sure you read the handouts quizzes come from that, quiz for every chapter. 3 writn assignmts, 2 exams, 1 final. Extra Credit!
Professor Jones provides a clear cut course and is up front with class expectations for which she has a lot of. However, if you follow her schedule and instructions you can earn an A. Pay very close attention to directions on the writing assignments as it is hard to earn full credit. 4 writing assignments (short), 10-12 quizzes, 3 sectioned tests.
Took this class online. She leaves it open to work ahead if you desire. She grades her assignments pretty hard. Pay attention to her directions and make sure you address everything she wants or you will not get full credit. She offers a extra credit assignment (30pts). Her handouts are super helpful. Recommend doing the lesson guide as you read.
She is going to remain one of my favorite professors' due to her energy and her rememberable lectures. She's is understanding if you need to miss a class or two, but I wouldn't recommend it cause your grade will suffer in participation points (which could be a pop quiz), test scores, and could put your extra credit in jeopardy.
Took this as an online class and there is a lot of reading. Overall a good professor. Did not use textbook. She provided articles to read.
she gives reviews before each test, lectures are heavy and she might step on your toes with some of the things she says but hey! its govt. class; most topics are sensitive to most. she did give average amount of h.w. test are also average and included essay questions in every one of them. tries to follow syllabus, will be retaking for govt. pt.2
Taking her again next year because she's so great. Only had two assignments outside of chapter quizzes online. She's a hot mess but in a good way, very passionate teacher and relaxed class atmosphere. And she gives a good amount of extra credit!!!!!! And pop quizzes are easy because there is no wrong answer!
The class is not hard as long as you do the work, however I had trouble understanding the way she graded assignments. If you email her, dont expect a reply, at least not in a timely manner. When I took the online class she was having trouble access the textbook so we didnt have to buy it.
Professor Jones is awesome! She really knows her stuff! the norm amount of home work, easy and several extra credit options; from attending conferences, debates, to writing an essay. Easy Test/quizzes. She's non bias when it comes to political debates. Didn't have a book due to tech issues, and her lectures can seem long but she post all on BB.
I highly recommend taking Mrs. Joness class. Hilarious stories! Enthusiastic teacher. Ask her how to get out of a ticket in Texas. Only a few grades in the class and its reading heavy. A couple essays (nothing big). 3 tests, a midterm, and a final. Just make sure you show up for all tests and the midterm. Attendance not necessary, but go.
I took her class online and she grades really hard! You have essays, discussion boards, quizzes, and exams. She knocks off points if you don't use her PP and handouts in essays. Do yourself a favor and pick a better teacher! I am mainly an A student and I pretty sure I am going to end up with a B in her class, if not a C.
She is really easy in classes. Show up in classes. listen to her guidelines and thats it. Very less papers and assignments. Easy on homework but tough on deadlines. She is a nice & friendly teacher. Would definitely take again.
Prof Jones is good at lecturing, she tries to keep things interesting and is very outgoing. She does give extra time for the online homework if the class needs it. Her essays are kind of tough as she doesn't give credit if you solely get your info from the book or online. Everything has to be from your mind yet it also has to be right.
For attendance she will treat you better if you show up everyday and be involved. She Does give extra credit which is nice however be prepared for ALOT of essays and projects. Lectures are not all that interesting but that's majority of all professors. She is very sweet though and cares about you if you take her and her class seriously.
She is a very positive and fun person but the way she teaches is kind of confusing and difficult for me to learn. She lectures but goes so fast to where you cant even write anything down. The quizzes are easy and the exams are the hardest things ever
I took this course during the fall semester, she is very good at giving lots of options for extra credit. You take an online quiz for every chapter, very easy lets you retake till a 100. VERY DIFFICULT TO FAIL HER CLASS. One group project, 3 tests and the final is optional.
Prof Jones is one of the most unorganized profs Ive ever had. She assigns an ungodly amount of online quizzes (I wasnt an online student), and her tests are 50+ questions. She didnt even tell us about our final until 3 days prior, and changed the criteria 3 times within one day. If you dont have to take her, dont. Shes a sweet lady, but awful
While you dont have to show up, there are participation quizzes. She is a great teacher, very smart and caring. Politics is hard for anyone to teach but she did great. You do have to listen and take notes. if you don't the tests will be hard. If you do good on the tests though you do not have to take the final. Definitley take this class.
She seemed very passionate about this class but I found her lecture style unorganized and frustrating. I don't like attending classes where a power point is simply read off to you, just email it out. She also gets distracted very easily and I found this frustrating when the classes pace suffered. She found a loophole and DOES grade attendance.
I had a quiz that was due on 5/1/19, she previously stated that somehow incorrect grades were put into the system, she stated the deadline to have them fixed was 4/24/19. She did not even grade it until 5/4/19. She graded the quiz late so I couldnt even tell her the grade was wrong. I have emailed her several times and she refuses to fix HER mishap
Shes a nice person but not a good professor. She just puts up a PowerPoint and lectures but often gets off topic. Online quizzes are easy but theres a lot and deadlines are strict so if you miss one its a 0. Chapters are unorganized. Her class is easy but she makes it harder than it has to be and isnt flexible or reasonable at all.
The class overall was pretty easy , 10 question quiz after each lesson , sometimes a writing assignment for the lesson and a few discussion boards. I think theres a total of like 3 exams over 3-4 lessons at a time. Final is over the last 4 lessons. Lots of reading but overall easy. The professor is kinda rude though.
She was awesome! I took her Tx Govt class in the fall of 2019. She helped us register to vote and even gave us advice on where to apply for scholarships. Just pay attention to her PowerPoints
The quizzes in this class are easy as long as you read the handout given each week. The exams on the other hand are very difficult. I struggled to pass the exams even after reading all that was required. The discussion boards and assignments weren't difficult, just answer all the questions thoroughly.
This is possibly the worst professor I've ever had in my three years of college. She is obnoxious and insensitive. She assigns a lot of work, and the tasks are mediocre. I can only say in her favor that she gives additional credit. Do not take this class!
I would instead drop out before I retake this teacher. I started getting whiplash because she is both polite and harsh. If you have any other options, take a different teacher, please.
awful class and awful teacher. I don't recommend this professor, she is not organized and The grades change a lot so I was confused about where I stood.
Quizzes are easy to do She lectures but rambles on Writing assignments are tedious and annoying. Does not give feedback on assignments before turning in. Study guides only cover part of the test as a result tests are confusing and difficult. Do not take this teacher.
Avoid this professor.
She was an okay professor, her lectures were pretty boring and I feel like she could have shortened the lectures down a lot to keep us students more focused, the exam reviews only covered a fraction of what the actual exam was about which I didn't like. But overall it was a pretty laid back class.
