Great Teacher! Easy! Tests&Class Curved, MultipleChoice Tests No Essays AT ALL!
This class is fairly easy, the lectures are the tests. Almost all exam questions based on hypothetical studies/analysis discussed in class. For scholars you only have to write a research paper on a topic of your choice - way way easy!
Dr Chin is the best. Her lectures are clear and interesting and she's very fair.
Very Interesting Class. Multiple Choice Tests.
Good teacher. Teaches for the most part out of the book, and then incorporates a little lecture and experiemetns into the test. Not too hard, but challenging. Provides some small extra credit opportunities.
Her class is very stimulating and fun. She is very knowledgeable, straightforward, with sincere concern with students' questions and concerns. The tests are not hard, rather, challenging, and keeping up with the reading will help a lot. TAKE HER!!!!
Very nice teacher. Her class is interesting and tests are ridiculously easy.
very knowledgeable, lectures are never boring
She's very nice. She's very helpful. She has a sincere concern for her students. Talks about interesting subjects, but she can be a bit of a bore. Don't take a late class, you might fall asleep. But tests are fairly simple. Anyone could pass this class.
she really cares about students. Gives out great examples in psychology. It's just great being in her class. Very interesting.
shes alright. . she makes you take wayyy to many notes and it can get a little boring.. she not hard at all.. just make sure to study your notes! (you'll have a lot of um)
i recommend this class for any reason. very cool chill teacher. pretty nice. sometimes lectures put me to sleep, but even then i still got a B on the midterm. relatively easy, just kinda pay attention in class and kinda study the study guide she gives.
Dr. Chin is the best teacher. she is very smart and explains everything very well. There is no work in this class except tests. lectures are not boring either.
She is one of the best teachers at SMC. She genuinly cares about her students. As long as you read the material and pay attention you will have no problem. She is also really chill and funny, i definetly reccomend her.
She is so nice and her lectures are so interesting. Her tests come right off the study guide and she is always there to help you. She is a professor at UCLA and she is extrememly knowledgeable. Take her for sure!!!!
She's nice, but her tests require too much information for you to know. In class she had her favorites so you need to speak out to get credit. Unless you like to read take her class, if not then avoid her.
very good teacher, recommended to all. seems kinda hard at first but when you get to know her, shes chill. tests are fairly easy, just do the study guides she gives and you'll get an A or B on every test, including the final.
Psych 1 is a very hard subject if you take it with the wrong teacher. Dr Chin explained everything in depth and gave examples for everything. She was the most organized and helpful teacher. She is sweet, nice and is an extremely fair grader. She curves
She is a nice teacher w/a easy class to boot. I couldnt afford book so winged it , just listened to lectures and studied my notes, got a B in the class. She does both a curve and a % scale so you can get the higher grade. If you read the book guarenteed A.

Kindness most prfessional professor you'll ever have. She is intellegent and helps you as much as possible. Outgoing, carismatic, and very good teaching skills.
I love her! She's very sweet and makes psychology VERY understandable, easy to follow examples for everything. Tests are multiple choice and curved. She doesn't care about your attendence. She makes the subjects interesting and easy to understand with her examples.
3 Tests (Multiple choice), 2 regular tests and one cumulative final, 2 in-class essays. Informative and clear class. Does not take role.
Don't like the class. Teacher has her favorites. there are two hard essays, 3 tests. Group work counts as extra credit. Is just an Ok class, but you need to read the book to do well
Good teacher. Study the questions she hands out before an exam and you will get an "A"
good teacher. Tests are easy if you go through the study questions she gives ahead of time.
she's sucks!!!!the question she gave to us is just some definition ....it's not helpful at all!!her grading system is not good!!!NOT FAIR!!do not take her!!!!!
Dr. chin is very statistical. she loves to talk about psychological stats. essays are easy if you read her articles. tests on the other hand are straight from the book (which is extremely boring) some quest. come from her lectures but READ THE BOOK!!!!! GRADE IS CURVED!!!!
She's a great teacher, and her lectures are interesting and enlightening. She actually made me want to study more about psychology. Read the book for the quizzes+study questions. She is a diferent person when she is not teaching, and not as amiable/smiling...(she puts on a "nice face" for teaching)
Too hard. Lots of information and statistic memorization makes for a boring class.
Basically shes a no bull kind of teacher. If your willing to work hard on your own, this is a good class. She is funny, but if you like taking a test in class and getting to leave, she is NOT for you. She is on an egenda and NOTHING changes that!
You cant have fun in this class! teacher is mean and rude. Not hot!!! Be prepared to fall asleep and be quiet or else...
Worst class I ever took, couldn't keep focused, ended up dropping it the first week I've yet to re-take it because she's been teaching it. Only nerds like psych majors enjoy her class. Led Zeplin Rules!!!!
Chin is alright, however the class is extremely long and drawn out. Especially if you are taking it in the morning.
only students who suck up and plan to major in psychology would enjoy this teacher.
D.Chin, Very nice teacher. A must take.
Professor Chin is excellent! She is very helpful, and her class is very clear. An easy A!
Very informative and helpful. Great to deal with professor, not mean at all.
Worst professor ever. All she does it lecture and is super unclear about her exams. Expects you to know everything you read in the book. Horrible!! Doesn't help her students at all!! And when asked to see your grade, doesn't respond. Not helpful. VERY BORING. Worst class ever. Bad Prof!!
Dr. Chin knows a lot about her subject, but doesn't totally understand how to make it interesting. Some fun lectures, but tests were really hard...Unless you read the book religiously you will get kind of lost.
Although Dr. Chin won't necessarily inspire a newfound appreciation for the subject matter, she does a great job of augmenting any pre-existing interest in psychology.
This is the second class I've had with Dr. Chin, and I cannot praise her enough! She is intelligent, knowledgeable, sincere, and cares about her students. I enjoyed the forum-style of Psyche 35, where we all had our desks arranged in a circle, and each had the opportunity to regularly share our thoughts and ideas regarding the subject matter.
Style fun, easygoing, helpful, equal-grounds, iwilllearnasmuchasyouinthisclass-sort of approach She's got a lot of experience and she is young and enthusiastic Based on participation u will do lots of talking (grade based on participation) u'll do some reading (U R required to read your exposition material)I did well Just relax n have fun
Ms. Chin is a very nice teacher, she grades on a curve which can also be helpfull and she is easy to understand
Dr. Chin is amazing. Shei son eof the most lucid, concise, organized professors I have evr taken a class from. Additionally, she is very supportive about learning and career growth. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She's great!
Dr.Chin is an incredible teacher. Her lectures are very straightforward and so is her tests. She doesnt give quizzes or homework. For her big exams, if you study your notes you are in good shape. she is always willing to help her students if you they have any quiestions! strongly recommed taking her classes!
awesome teacher! super nice and her teachings are concise! if you study your notes for her exams, you are in great shape. she is willng to help you out whenever you ask her! you do take quite amount of notes and a bit of studying.. so if you are looking for an easy A, i dont recommend it.
She's very clear, she doesn't take attendance. Look at it this way: The more you show up, and take good notes...the less you'll need to read out of the textbook in order to do well on her tests. She gives 3 tests and a final. Final has 75 questions.3 tests have 30-37 questions. All multiple choice, but not that easy. The second test was the hardest.
I do not have much interest in the field of psychology and have taken multiple courses in it, but Dr. Chin made it interesting. Her class can be monotonous at times but she is a fair grader. She had tests that force you to choose the "best" answer as opposed to merely right. Expected a lower grade but was surprised, thanks Dr. Chin.
She's nice, intelligent, and chill. two tests, two essays, final. has the whole semester planned out on syllabus. just read the textbook show up for class. tests are easy and curved. No homework :)
It was okay she knows what she is talking about and she tries to understand her students the notes are the most important thing i harldy used the text book get involved with the class and you will do well
Nice professor. Ask questions and take good notes since that's where she gets most of her test questions from. Very helpful and informative. Good person to get a letter of recommendation from if you're a Psych major.
So unimpressed. Makes tons of logical mistakes. Cant handle hard Q's from class at all, might even avoid thrust of ur Q. 2nd 1/2 of sem.=psych1 redux. Dont know how she's chair of psych dept. Learnt zero about pers. psych, prob. b/c biopsych is better discipline. text=comically bad. Take Phillips' evo psych if want to learn (NOT SAGE: crazy Xtian)
I think Dr. Chin wants to help educate her students, not to impress them. She is also kind and helpful and down to earth, even though she has been so successful in her professional life. If anyone deserves to be arrogant but isn't, its Dr. Chin.
I enjoyed going to her lectures, take good notes even on things you think you don't need to take notes on because most her exam question come from there, a few from the book. She does activities which helps learn what she teaches in class, she answers all the questions you ask and participation is extra credit.
Professor appears to be nice during class, but is a strict grader. Doesn't give study guides and throws random questions from the book into the test. Tests are difficult. READ THE BOOK AND GO TO EVERY CLASS IF YOU WANT AN A!!!
She has a kind personality but i just felt the class was a waste of 16 weeks of my life. I can honestly say i dont remember a thing from that class! Her tests are hard and random! I would sit and think to myself "Why is this worthy of being a test question?" I got a C in her class and A's in all my other class for fall semester. Killed my GPA!
Personality Psychology should have been an interesting class; it wasn't. Dr. Chin was completely unenthused, distracted and seemed to being just going through the motions. It is really unfortunate she is the only professor because this is a fun subject. Sure, it was an easy A, but I was hoping for something more from this class.
WHAT a waste of time. she knows her stuff, but does not put any effort into her class. no study guides, never goes over test ?s u got wrong. notes on board and thats it. final was super hard. plan on teaching yourself the course. very disappointing!!!
Dr chin knows her material, however be prepared to teach yourself the class. tests are some what ez if u take great notes. final was SUPER hard. over all i dont recommend this class. i love psychology classes and this was a waste.
Not the most interesting lectures, but easy class to handle. There were 3 multiple choice tests and 3 essay tests based on movies watched in class. Tests did have random questions, but just read the book. Class could be really boring, but everything is in the book. I got an A and didn't study as much as I usually do for classes.
The lecture was fine, but class discussions could get really tangential. There are only two midterms, a final, and an in-class essay. Read the book and take good notes - she picks really specific questions from the book to check that you're doing the reading.
Boring! Doesn't seem to want to be here
Honestly i think its apparent from the grammar and spelling of people that complain, they dont know what theyre talking about. Sure, she doesnt devote her life to this class at a CC, she does her best and knows the material well. She doesnt give study guides, make them yourself! Take notes and study overlap and your golden. 3 MC tests. good class
seriously, i didn't really liked the class. it was boring and when it would come for the exams she would barely go over anything we learned.
Loved her. Personable & keeps class interesting
I agree with most everyone on here that this class was disappointing. You practically teach yourself and if you take it online, there aren't even any lectures, just discussion posts and exams. Again, easy "A" but I would have liked to learn something.
Took online - Light workload, just a discussion post a week and I think 4 exams (multiple choice, 30-40 q's), no discussion on week of exams. You do pretty much teach yourself but I learned things from the readings which were mostly interesting. A little slow in responding to questions but does respond.
I was SO excited to take this course, but I ended up VERY disappointed with it instead. The entire content of the course comes from the text. The exams are all multiple choice and sometimes difficult because they are timed. She does not communicate with her students. I felt that she was very lazy and did the bare minimum as a professor. AVOID!!
Personality should be interesting--not here. You teach yourself--I used want to major in pysch--not any more
She is not a good instructor.
Don't take her. She doesn't communicate with her students. Even worse is her lecture is not based on the text and her questions are tricky.
If you want to meet up twice a week listening to all these mothers and fathers who think they are so important talking about their pregnancies, how they gave birth, what medication they used, how much it hurt, how they are now raising their kid: Go for it!!
She gives lectures using powerpoint, she is verry helpfull whenever you have any question. All you have to do is take notes in class, and you will do good. The questions that she gives on her test are tricky, because you have to pay attention to the wording of each question
It's not such a bad class, but you do need to be motivated enough to do the work on your own. If you need constant guidance, then online probably isn't for you anyway. Read the textbook (which is fantastic), do the discussion and you won't have a problem on the tests. Interesting material, and relatively easy A.
Class was ok, needs to be clear with what she wants students to learn. No chapter reviews, confusing tests. I got a B, but felt that the tests were confusing and got a worse grade due to confusing tests. Take, but be warned! you will self teach yourself 90% of the time.
Easy A and very interesting class! You teach yourself from the textbook, and all tests are multiple choice. I refute anyone who says she is confusing or unclear- everything is straightforward if you just follow the syllabus. Its not even that heavy for a half-semester course, totally go for it!
Easiness5 Helpfulness4 Clarity4 Rater Interest3 I took Psych 19 online and it was fun. You just gotta make sure when everything is due. Study and read before any assignment, everything is pretty straight forward. You have to read and study well, though. Prof Chin is very organized. Follow the syllabus and her instructions!!!
I also took Psych 19 online. It was great! Prof Chin is very organized. You just got to make sure when everything is due. I needed to study twice a week for 6 hours. You have to study on your own because there is no physical class. Everything is straight forward. Follow the syllabus and her instructions!!!
What you expect from this online class is to read the syllabus, read the textbook, participate in discussion, and answer an objective test based on the reading and some link to a video or website. Exams are tough since you only have the book to rely on since there's no lecture or guide or enough discussion to learn the material.
Very boring. Professor does not do lectures or engage with students at all. Course grade is based entirely off exam grades and student discussion boards, alternating weekly. Exams are based entirely off the text - and you get no feed back from professor at all. All the professor does is simply enter your scores - no actual teaching involved.
Professor Chin presents very good lectures, therefore you should take good notes, and be very disciplined and learn, because she won't provide you with handouts or do any reviews before tests. THE TESTS ARE HARD, and sometimes the questions tricky. You won't get an A easily!
I dont understand why people are saying this class is hard or that the tests are difficult. Its college. All you need to do is go to class, take notes and read the book. And I promise you'll do fine. I got an A on every test, and it wasnt due to extreme studying. It was due to taking notes in class, and actually reading. Take Chin!
By far the easiest online class I've ever taken. Just read, highlight or take notes of the bold words in the chapters. Tests are simple and straight-forward. Tests are given in between Monday-Wednesday...which was perfect in my opinion. Not sure how she is in person but the online course was a piece of cake! Easy A.
This was my second time taking this class (failed it the first time with a different professor) and this time I'm passing with either an A or B. I even missed a few lectures and was able to fill in that info from the textbook. Only grades that count are tests but she does give extra credit for participation.
Awesome professor. You have to be really stupid to get anything less than an A in her class.
I wanted to major into Psych, this teacher made me change my major. If you attend her lectures, you will pass but she is extremely boring and uninteresting. 3 tests + 1 final (cumulative). Most of the time, she cannot say anything further then what we are learning, for she doesn't know the answers. I do not recommend her class.
Great Professor!
really good teacher. very clear in her lectures but dont expect an A if you dont study or come to class
3 tests, 1 final, and 3 papers (lowest gets dropped). Extremely easy and straightforward. Try not to miss class since most of the tests are note based (multiple choice). Take detailed notes and skim chapters since she throws in material from there sometimes. Lectures are interesting and she's very nice & helpful. You'll pass if you're not lazy.
Dr. Chin was definitely my favorite professor I took this fall! She is very knowledgable and her lectures are very clear and straight forward. She hands out study questions before tests and all the test questions are from lectures and she says what chapters to study in the book in the syllabus. There are 4 tests a final 3 papers and she gives EC.
Dr. Chin is by far one of the best teachers I've had this semester. If you take advantage of the study guides she hands out-plus the curve on every test-you can definitely pass the class with an A. Make sure to get the textbook for the class and take the notes down word for word. Lectures can be long but they're interesting.
3 tests and a final, 3 ted talk reflection papers (2 pages each). Some extra credit. Lectures are great and all you need for the tests but if you cant attend class if you study the book you'll probably get a B. Attendance is not mandatory but encouraged. If you have a problem, talk to her, she is really easy going.
Very organized online class. Read the textbook, study the vocabularies, and join the discussions every week to understand better. There was self introductions, 5 exams, and about 5 discussions for the TED talk, short story, psychology game, or a youtube video. Her responses are nice, I wish I could meet her in person & thank her! Don't stress out!!
I love this class so much! I really had no idea that Psychology would be my favorite subject until I took her class. There is no homework, 4 exams and a final. If you come to class every day and take notes, you will get an A. Highly recommend her as a teacher.
very organized and understandable teaching methods. no homework, just 4 exams and 3 papers. wants you to succeed!
Stereotypical college class-lectures and taking notes. She doesn't care about attendance or participation, and she curves her tests. What you take is what you give. 3 short assignments and tests, but they're hard if you don't know your stuff. Essentially, if you do what you're expected to do, this class is very enjoyable and a piece of cake. Study!
Nice teacher, very communicative and sends us messages during weekends and tips for the class. The discussions are optional. 6 units (for the winter class online) and 5 exams with about 36 questions.
Easiest online class I've ever taken. Just a few discussions and quizzes and voila, before you know it, your semester is already over.
Professor Chin is a great teacher. I took the class online and I'm so glad I decided to take her class. Take her she is the best!!!
Does not respond to emails and does not add people from the wait list.
Her class is only based on the three essays (only 2-3 pages) you write and your exams. The exams and essays are fairly easy. She doesn't use canvas, which makes it hard to tell what your grade is. Gives Extra Credit options.
Took her class for Psych3 online. I honestly was looking forward to this class, but Chin's assignments were really pointless (I'm a psych major). Graded by a few things. In all honesty, it just seems like she's extremely lazy, takes forever to grade/ respond, & her discussion assignments are basically stuff you can learn from psych1.
Relied solely on reading 3 chapters for every test. She had no lecture slides of her own, which was fine. Assignments included discussions one week, then two weeks without anything due, then the test. 4 tests in all, no final. Tested on everything in the book, which is a heck a lot of material to have in your brain when taking a 30 question test.
Only graded on 3 tests, a final, and 3 reflections (lowest is dropped) 2 E.C. assignments. Curves her tests. doesn't use canvas, so you have to guess what grade you have in the class. Tests are mostly based on stuff in class, participation/attendance aren't mandatory. Lectures are really interesting and engaging. If you study enough, u'll get the A
Chin is a cool professor but she won't remember your name and never takes attendance so you can skip. Her class consists of 3 exams, 1 group project and extra credit. She does not use canvas so you won't know your grade until it is posted on your transcript. She's a lecture class and never uses the book. Just study and you'll be fine
would not recommend! she doesn't use canvas so you can't really tell how much you need to improve in the class in order to get an A. Also is really slow at replying to emails. Get ready to read loads and be tested on not even a fraction of what you have read. Tests are really hard.
/I took her online 8 week class in the fall of 2019, very easy. There are 4 discussions and 4 tests, that's it! discussions would always get 9/10 or 8/10. but the tests I would get 95% or higher each time. I did not learn anything tho, if you want an easy GPA booster this is the class for you. If you want to learn something I do not recommend.
Very nice Professor. Easy because of COVID-19 online version (5 short exams) compared to original version (2 midterms, group project, final). She's a late responder (few days sometimes). Her lectures were very interesting and got everyone involved. The class would've been more difficult if we stayed on campus. I am so happy that I took her .
I was interested in taking a PSYCH course, but this class is unmotivating. While it seems that the professor organized the class to make it easier for students, you do not feel connected, and being assigned just to read the textbook is very impersonal. Not really learning, tests are hard, and she rarely responds to emails.
Really easy class - 4 tests/quizzes and that was it. Yes, there was textbook reading, but it wasn't a lot and it was quite interesting. Great professor that made this online class a breeze to take. Highly recommend!
A very easy class but there is LOTS of reading to do every week. It helps to pace yourself and write solid notes. Make sure to review your notes before the weekly exams. The whole course was very interesting and insightful!
Her class is really easy. All the test are online. Ive only missed one point in the entire semester which was on a discussion post. She never left feedback on why I lost a point, other students have emailed her for similar issues but theres never a response. Easy gpa booster if needed but she not interactive.
horrible interaction. no communication. no feed back. and I felt like I have learned absolutely nothing at all.
I had many issues with this professor. She is extremely difficult to communicate with and seems very cold to her students. She continuously took off points for word choice. Its a psychology class, not english. Her discussion post requirements are hard to understand too. she always wants more than what you did.
DO NOT TAKE PSYCH 3 WITH HER. just dont do it. she took off so many points for irrelevant things, is impossible to get in touch with, and is cold to her students. Im a psych major and this class was so boring. Ive learned it all before, and reading a book was not engaging at all. She takes grading way too deep and provides only stress.
You read the book! You take the quizzes! Late coments & 0 feedback She'll give you feedbacks after three weeks on discussion when you rarely remember things! my GPA is 3.74 and I had to P/NP the class because she wasn't there and there was nothing to learn except a book to read! I never find out why my answers to most of the videos were wrong!
Dorothy Chin was an amazing psychology teacher, very sweet and caring. Was very reasonable when it came to late work. There was reading in the class but nothing too overboard. Professor Chin truly educated me when it came to psychology.
I studied 2 hours a day 2 weeks before each test and barely passed the class. All of my friends in the class also got bad grades. Her class discussions were fun but she never responded to emails and didn't offer any help. Don't take her class.
Took this class online and never saw or spoke to the professor, so this is more of a review of the class and the way she designed it. The syllabus was kind of a mess, and the experience was very dull and boring. I feel that I didn't learn much from the class as most of PSYCH 3 is simply PSYCH 1 reiterated. The exams are difficult, too.
I can deal with the heavy workload, but Prof. Chin made the class unbearably boring. Between her apparent lack of care/ concern for the students and their performance, and her incredibly monotone way of speaking, I truly believe she doesn't care about the class. Study really hard and take notes during lectures.
It's been a while since I've left SMC and I still feel the need to write this one. Chim was one of the most difficult and disorganized professors I've had. I studied 30 hours a week(6 hours a day), and barely got an A. Sent multiple emails and no response.
i took an 8 week course thinking the workload would be a lot, but it wasn't! sometimes we wouldn't even have homework. she always left nice comments and give us really engaging assignments. various opportunities for extra credit, and the textbook was pretty nice to read. i kinda wish i took a longer section of this because i thoroughly enjoyed it.
Professor Chin's PSYCH3 is an easy GPA booster, but not much learning. Discussions are graded harshly, and tests are straightforward. Tools like unstuck study can help review the material efficiently.
Just don't, find another prof.
This was by far the worse teacher! The ONLY thing you do is read the textbook. She doesn't do any teaching at all. Up to you to teach yourself completely. 4 exams that are 25-30 questions. Getting a few answers wrong will drop your grade dramatically. Worst part is that there's questions on the test that aren't in the reading. You're set up to fail
I know a lot of people didn't like Chins class but I didn't mind it. I took psych 1 and it's just 5 exams around 35-40 questions each. If you read the book and make flashcards the tests aren't difficult at all. If you are someone who prefers lecture-heavy teaching and you mostly take in person-- take an in person class instead.
If you actually want to learn about personality psychology do not take this class - if you want an easy A, then take it. Also, she does not grade on time. Very hard to contact her. I would not recommend if you are a psych major - otherwise it is ok.
