She is a really good professor. She requires attendance as she grades 5% of the total from the attendance. She gives a lot of extra credit stuff and 3 exams in all. It is quite easy to get an A if you pay attention in the class.
Prof. Kalanzi is really adorable and nice. She usually tells you which questions will be on the test, but you have to read the textbook for extra vocabulary. Attendance is required (she takes role), and she gives out a lot of extra credit in class.
Dr. Kalanzi is so nice. Her expectations are reasonable, and clearly laid out. If you do the reading which is fairly easy you will make an A!
This is a good professor. I liked her Medical Sociology class. She helped me develop a Sociological Perspective on day to day situations.
This professor is very bad she does not provide any reviews for exams, nor help outside of class. Also no extra credit, and is MANDATORY that you attend her class since she doesn't provide any notes or power points online. Everything you learn you learn it from the notes you take and that's how you study for exams. AVOID her, do not take her class!
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Kalanzi's course. I always looked forward to coming to class. I also enjoyed her sense of humor. Ha! Good for the mind.
This is a good professor. I really enjoyed her Medical Sociology course. She was nice. We also got enough extra credits if we played our part in learning. I highly recommend her, especially with this course. Good to see the Sociological view of the medical field.
I really enjoyed this course. The grading was fair and we did get lots of extra credits. Take Dr. Kalanzi if you get an opportunity. She takes a global perspective.
Good professor. My friend recommended her to me. I was not disappointed.I really enjoyed the course.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Very unhelpful and she's from Uganda so you literally cannot understand a single thing she says. She doesn't put her powerpoints online and she takes attendance- sometimes foe extra credit although it was like 1 point. DO NOT TAKE!
Very interesting class. Enthusiastic professor. Very knowledgeable. Cares about students. I liked her. My roommate took her and recommended her to me. Take her if you can.
Awesome professor. The class is exciting. I learned a lot from the class. We covered many various topics. I recommend this class.
I took Dr. Kalanzi. She is a nice professor and very helpfuld. I enjoyed this class. She had good powerpoints. Good visuals. I recommend taking her class.
I liked this course. I could take my own notes so I did not need any PowerPoint Outlines. I recommend the course.
This is a good professor. She will expect you to take your own notes though. Which is OK as she wants students to keep up the skill of taking their own notes. I enjoyed the course. I recommend her.
A lot of students don't like her, but Prof. Kalanzi is one of the main reasons why I chose to minor in Sociology. Her course is fun, she's an interesting person, and if you can get past her thick Ugandan accent (which I actually find very pretty), she's a good professor. Tests are easy if you take notes, skim each chapter, and study beforehand.
She has a VERY thick Ugandan accent and doesn't talk very loud, so sometimes it's difficult to understand her. She also doesn't allow electronic notetaking but you can get away with it on a tablet or other device. She was late to class and always wasted time starting class and letting us out early. She's a pretty good professor overall though.
Very good professor. I really loved her. I also liked her Ugandan accent. Easy to understand. She did a good job in the course I took with her. I am glad I had her. Very understanding.
I did learn a lot from this class. It was informative. Very good professor. Very nice too.
Very good professor. I enjoyed her class. Always looked forward to it.
Dr. Kalanzi is very helpful when you go see her during office hours Her lectures move fast, but the book supplements the information you may miss. She would come late to class or class would be slow to start. The only grades you get are exams, no homework and limited extra credit.
Dr. Kalanzi is a good professor. But be ready to learn how to take your own notes. Which was good for me. I was so used to getting everything handed down to me. But hey I had to take an active role in learning. Interesting course.
She is so sweet! She has an accent but once you get used to it you won't even notice. Her class was easy. She gives good feedback on several topics. She also gives out extra credit assignments but you must go to class in order to do them. You don't need the book but it helps out if you don't go to class one day! She takes attendance so go to class!
Professor Kalanzi is a very sweet teacher! She loves sociology but her lectures are boring and you really don't have to go as long as you get the notes or read. Easy class.
Extremely helpful, considerate, and super nice. She will work with you and makes sure that you complete all assignment. She is awesome. Gives you great notes!
She suffers from a very strong African accent and struggles when the class participates because she may not understand your answer. EC for attendance. Final wasn't cumulative. Her lectures are boring. She's very, very nice. No real HW. Study the textbook for an A.
Dr. Kalazni was quite funny, which made her lectures more enjoyable. I loved how Dr. Kalanzi stressed the importance of note-taking. I feel like this is an important skill that every college student should excel in, and I'm glad this professor encouraged our growth in it. Dr. Kalazni was quite funny, which made her lectures more enjoyable.
The quality of Dr. Kalanzi's lectures is very good. The material is thoroughly covered and well explained. I really appreciated and liked that my professor had a very culturally diverse background and well rounded understanding of other cultures; it made the class much more enjoyable and easy to understand. I would take more of her courses.
I agree with the majority of respondents to RateMyProfessor. Dr. Kalanzi is a very good professor. She is well read in the area of Sociology. Her classes are enjoyable and she really cares about students. I also really love her accent. It is exceptional. I love diversity because not everyone has to be British. I plan to take her again
Great individual, great teacher, her tests were just very hard. Her lectures do not cover all material in tests. Reading is a MUST to fill in the gaps for her class. Very helpful and readily available to work with students. Just be prepared: it is not an EASY A, but it is obtainable if you strive for it. And also, she forgets to take attendance.
Professor Kalanzi is such a sweet person. On numerous occasions she has gone above and beyond to make sure that the students are learning the material. She is great about utilizing instructional technology in addition to lecturing. This added an interesting dynamic to the course. She definitely has a passion for the subject matter
The professor took a holistic view in her teaching and allowed students to implement their perception of a certain topic into her teachings. This allowed students of varying cultures to help better define a subject she had been teaching which presented a better picture of the topic.
Dr. Kalanzi manages to be both adorable and incredibly intelligent. She's an incredible sociologist, but breaks it down to a level that everyone can understand. She makes sure she brings in video clips or readings to class that will help tie in what we're learning to the real world. Just make sure you study; sociology is all about vocabulary.
She gave a worldwide perspective and I learned way more relevant and important lessons than I expected too. She was engaging in her students and made a point to explain topics in different ways and to have class discussions.
Kalanzi is a great Professor. Her way of presenting all the required materials is excellent. I like her interactive PowerPoint slides and the movies related to what we were learning. She taught us as much as she could from the book and did so very well.
The professor presents the information in a way that makes sense and is easy to follow. She also gives us the opportunity to participate in class discussions. She has a unique accent. I like it.
Dr Kalanzi, enforces the things that need more studying, discussions are brief but effective, power points are very clear to understand but only available in class. You have to write your own notes. She knows what she is talking about, knows the subject matter, and knows what is required and fit for the class level. Took her as a college junior.
Her lectures are good as long as you go to class and pay attention. She will give helpful information about what will be on the test
The hot pepper on here made me question if I was in the right class. Y'all, she is old. However, her class isn't so bad. Only issue I have is that she posts deadlines for the quizzes on syllabus but then tells you there is no real deadline. She also tells you she doesn't accept late work.
She's a good teacher in that she understands that students have a life outside of school. Her powerpoints don't make sense a lot of the time time and neither does what she say. The quizzes aren't hard but you do need to read the textbook pages as well as review her notes.
Excellent professor. I did not score the best on my exams when they were timed online, but her teaching style is excellent. I have learned a lot in this course and I really have had a different view point in today's world than what I did have before taking the class. She explains something and given several examples verbally and orally. Her power p
She takes extra credit for roll. This encourages not to skip class, and rewards those who are diligent to come. Involves students through discussions in class, allows for a broader intake of knowledge from those with different backgrounds and opinions, which in turn, creates a nice diversity within the classroom.
She knows the content well, and taught it well. She gives real world examples and videos to help understand the material which was helpful. Pleasant to work with. She wants you to take your own notes. Makes one take an active role in their learning. Slow lecture pace. I love her access. It is I think African.
I am 100% sure this professor writes her own reviews. I mean just read them. The material is easy but you must read. Lectures notes help. She sometimes makes offensive comments that she thinks are funny. She also encourages at least one student to fail each semester so that it makes her look good to her boss. She said not everybody can get A's.
Took this as an elective. It was a hybrid course, half in class and half online. Her lectures are fairly dry but assignments are easy. You must read the textbook for the quizzes for the full points. She often makes weird comments that should not be said to students. She has an accent that is sometimes hard to understand.
I really enjoyed Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi. Deadlines exist. She may work with you though based on circumstances. I liked her classes. Grading was fair. I found her funny at times. Good professor.
Let's start with the positive: participation matters, lots of papers but only few exams. Negatives: I feel that she is not really helpful when it comes down to emails, better luck on emailing her about anything. She will only reinforce what she previously stated without explaining what she meant before. It was frustrating and inconsiderate.
I did not get a desired grade in this class. However, I enjoyed the course. We had to write a significant amount of papers. If you want to pass, keep up with these papers. Otherwise, her exams are fair. The professor is nice and will try to work with you. No hard feelings about the grade.
Easiest college class I've ever taken. Attendance isnt mandatory, but she gives out extra credit opportunities. If you don't make an A in this class then somethings wrong with you.
This class was the easiest college class I had taken! All of the tests are online and every test day, she cancels class and you an literally just take the test in bed. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives around 4-5 extra credit points per test if you showed up to class.
By far the easiest course I've ever taken. Attendance is not mandatory, however she does offer extra credit points for those that attend. All exams are online. There is no excuse for failing this class.
Kalanzi is fine. Nothing to complain about the class. Participation and attendance doesn't matter for the most part only that sometimes she'll count it as extra credit.
Kalanzi's class was great. The lectures were straightforward, and the tests were online and doable from home. You can get extra credit if you show up to class sometimes! Easy A!
Kalanzi is a super sweet lady but if you don't make an A in this class then something is seriously wrong with you. All of the tests are online even the final. You don't even have to go to class just if you want extra credit. Such an easy class like it's unbelievable that it's even considered to be a college course lol.
Kalanzi's class was SO easy. You only have to show up to lectures if you want extra credit, which you really don't even need because all of her tests including the final are online. You can find almost all answers to them online, as well. She's a very kind woman and is easy to work with. Definitely would recommend!
If you need to take intro to sociology, take her! Professor Kalanzi is absolutely amazing! She is such a caring and kind professor. She will actually take the time to learn your name if you attend class regularly. Her tests are not hard, pretty much common sense. TAKE HER! She is amazing!
The class was interesting as a whole. Kalanzi was very helpful in explaining the concepts in class and providing useful and world related information.
The professor keeps lectures fun by including power points, videos, stories, and accurate examples. I think that these items all really made the material stick with me.
I liked her, she responds to emails quickly. Really communicates to the students and gives good examples to the topics we talk about. Always smiles and laughs in class. Great learning atmosphere and talk to the class. Extra credit opportunities.
Kalanzi's lessons were interesting and engaging. Movies the professor shows give students a break from note taking. Professor picks students to answer questions, which engages students into the lesson although I did not want to be picked on. Friendly woman and entertaining. Encourages students to speak up and have a voice.
Literally easiest class I took last semester. All her exams were online and she gave extra credit to those test for attendance. Was a boring class but she is a sweet lady.
She's alright. I wouldn't take her again because she doesn't explain throughly and she's sometimes hard to understand. Beware though , do not get on her bad side because she will not take it. It's an easy class but she can be a little obtuse sometimes because if you didn't answer how she wanted you to answer, you'll be ignored.
Professor Kalanzi is fabulous! She really interacts with the students and her information is clear. She gave us time to take good notes and overall the material was interesting to learn about. I did not see any issues taking her class. Cares for students a plus plus.
The class I took with Dr. Kalanzi was interesting as a whole. She is helpful in explaining the concepts in class and providing useful and world related information. Also doing group activities and relating to concepts in the real world helps learn material easily.
I liked taking her class. The material was relevant to reality. Also, she always comes to class more than excited about teaching, which makes us excited to learn.
Her exams were online, and every question was on quizlet. If you want an easy A, take her!! She really cares about every student. Attendance is mandatory and she gives extra credit for attendance. SHOW UP. She doesnt like people to use laptops during class so sit at the back of the class.
TAKE HER! GPA Boosting class. Probably one of the easiest classes Ive taken at UTA. Thought this class was going to be boring but it was actually interesting the handful of times I went to class. She does take attendance (Just have a good friend), her tests are online, and there is one extra credit assignment.
I loved Dr. Kalanzi! I would take her again if I could! She is passionate about sociology and it shows in her lectures. She cares about her students and occasionally gives extra credit opportunities. Her tests are heavy, but if you take notes and listen during her lectures, you will do fine in the class. I highly recommend her!
Took her for intro and now medical sociology. She knows her stuff and is passionate she seems to care a great deal about you succeeding. She has an accent that makes listening to her lecture a real treat. Took her medsoc online. Graded on 20+ 1 page papers and 10 quizzes. She is not a harsh grader at all on papers. Quiz wording is wonky though.
Yikes. All exams including the final is online, so that is not bad. She started using lockdown browser mid-semester but exams are still easy. Final is non-cumulative, but the professor has a THICK accent. She says the books is required, but all of the exam questions can be found on quilt, and the lecture/book do not help on exams.
Class can be quite difficult. Reading the book is not recommended as she regularly contradicts the book. Lots of "Extra Credit" but does not apply it. Extremely tech-illiterate, be ready to clarify things over email and to have her request a different lockdown-browser for each exam. Also makes tests harder if too many people make A's
Attendance isn't required but can give you extra credit. Tests are online. She is a really nice professor and cares for students. The class can be a bit boring. As long as you read tests are easy. The only grades are the test.
Dr. Kalanzi is the sweetest professor I've ever had. Very caring lady and truly wants the best for her students. All test are online and there are quizlets for every question. I would take her 100x more just to get an easy A. Class is also kind of interesting.
Good professor. I liked her teaching style. Class was interesting with many examples drawn from day to day situations. Very nice professor. I like her accent. I would take her again.
I took Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi. I loved the format of lectures and how we were given the opportunity to share ideas and examples that applied directly to the content. I will definitely recommend this class in the future to other students. I learned a lot but without stress. Thanks to Dr. Kalanzi!
Medical Sociology was a 5 week summer 1 intensive class. Dr. Kalanzi organized this course well although there was a lot of material being learned very quickly. She made the sections manageable, I think everyone was set to succeed. I enjoyed every bit of it, and would take another class with her.
I took Social Inequality with this professor? Her lessons were interesting and engaging. The movies gave students a break from note taking. However, she picks on students to answer questions, uncomfortable. Very pleasant though. She strongly encourages students to speak out and have a voice.
Professor Kalanzi is friendly and encourages student involvement. She encourages students to share their cultural background. I took Social Inequality with her.
Very easy class, the tests are straightforward with all material gotten from the textbook. Dr. Kalanzi provides a lot of real-life examples for sociology and likes to joke a lot as well. Only four tests make up your grade.
Dr. Kalanzi was a great professor. All the tests are on Blackboard. I would recommend getting the book, because the majority of the exam material is from the book. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives up to four points on each test if you attend regularly. Very encouraging and uplifting professor.
I took her online sociology class. Everything was on quizlet and google so dont worry. Only two easy exams. She is always sending messed up emails that are confusing and make literally no sense. Other than that the content is easy. 10 quizzes, 7 discussion posts, offers some extra credit. I would take her online but not in class
The easiest class. All her tests are online, and all the questions can be found on quizlet. Don't buy the textbook, b/c you'll learn more from crash course sociology. The only reason I attended class was b/c it was extra credit.
Easiest class EVER!! Rarely showed up but when I did, her lectures were alright. She's very sweet and tries to get the class to participate. Her tests are online and attendance was for extra credit. I recommend anyone who wants an easy A to take her!
She's very nice and has a cute sense of humor. All grades come from 4 online exams. She gives extra credit. Most test questions can be studied from quizlets.
Very kind, fair, understanding, always tries to engage her students. Gives out a lot of extra credit points during class, especially from attendance randomly. Sometimes her accent is hard to understand, but it's not too bad. Easy A, no textbook needed. Exams are online. Just look up the questions on Quizlet. Don't have to show up to make an A.
I took Dr. Kalanzi's class and she really made my first semester a breeze. Grades are based only on 4 online tests that are 70 multiple choice questions throughout the semester, so quizlet will be your best friend. She says that you need the textbook but don't buy it because you will not open it!!! Attendance is extra credit. EASY A!!
Dr. Kalanzi is super nice and she literally gives you everything you need to pass. Read your chapters, show up to class for notes, and the tests are online. She gives extra credit on the tests too! She is passionate and inspiring.
Not a good professor. Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests, she even says so herself, she gets them from a test bank. Ppl only took this class b/c there were online tests w/o camera, but she ended that. She gets easily annoyed during lectures by students and will stop lecture to scold them. She also draws meaningless stuff on chalkboard.
Agree with the guy below x100. She may seem nice on the outside, but it's like a fake nice if you catch my drift. Her lectures lack any depth and explanation. Without online exams without the camera, avoid her.
Avoid this professor at all costs! I had a 4.0 GPA before taking this class. The professor has made this class impossible to pass! I haven't finished the semester out yet, but I already have almost no chance at making even a B at this point. I am supposed to graduate at the end of this semester, but I feel that she is going ruin my plans.
I took this class for my prereg and I would not recommend taking her if you do not like to read and have many classes on your plate. You can take your test online except there will be a webcam. Attending her lecture will earn you extra credits on the test. Overall, she is a very nice teacher. "We are a global society" is her favorite quote.
I took this class because it was going to be an easy A, but after the first test she changed the webcam policy to require one for online tests and refused to give us a study guide. Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests, they are all from test banks, only go to lecture for extra credit. Get ready to learn the information on your own
Each chapter had a quiz (10 questions found on quizlet) and a discussion. Discussions & your comment on a post had to each be 1/2 a page. If you meet the length, you get 100. Tests are in lockdown w/ camera. Her blackboard is a little disorganized and a lot of times her emails were confusing. Just read the chapter and you'll do fine.
Attendance is extra-credit. Kalanzi spends a lot of time talking about herself and her life. Pretty sure I learned more about Uganda than I did Sociology. Class is taught entirely off of powerpoints that she made herself but exams are multiple choice and not cumulative
I found Dr. Kalanzi to be a really good professor. I enjoyed her class.
This course was a wonderful course to build character and was very manageable and able to keep up with.
Dr. Kalanzi gives quizzes, discussion forums and uses videos in addition to the lectures. This class was very interesting. If you want fair assessments and a pleasant learning environment, this is one of the classes to take. I liked it.
This is an interesting course. Uses advanced Powerpoints and discussions on every topic. There are some readings but if you engage in discussion forums and do fairly on quizzes, you will do well. If you try to keep up with everyone else in class, it is no problem. Dr. Kalanzi is a great professor.
This class class was interesting as a whole. Dr. Kalanzi explains concepts while providing useful and world related information. If you like a global approach to course work, she does it well. The class is very enjoyable. She uses Lockdown browser to prevent cheating. I never had a problem with that as I thought it is a fair way to test us.
I took this course online. Each week required reading one chapter. Discussion forums were an easy perfect score. But she also gives quizzes and exams. Overall the class is fair and interesting. Dr. Kalanzi is also real nice and understanding if any personal issues.
She seem like a sweet person in real life. Offered extra credit. Added points to an overall test grade for the entire class. Interesting movie selections that you watch on your own. Not too much homework. Flip side, test were confusing and had grey area. Have to know dates. Recorded lectures were not helpful, but interesting. Made my lowest grade.
Very enjoyable course. Interesting lectures. 4000 level course. So, expect it to be a bit hard. But fair grading. Really liked this professor. Take her if you want to learn.
She uses very accurate examples to help understand material and lectures. Appropriate pace. Liked this class. Oh. Dr. Kalanzi is also an incredible lady. Really nice. Worth mentioning that.
I took Social Inequality with Dr. Kalanzi. I really enjoyed the course. You will learn a lot from this course. Numerous movies that help help understand the topic. Good change from lecture. She relates material about the whole world instead of focusing in just the US. Eye opening.
Good teacher very engaging with the students, her material is easy and takes time to explain the topic. Due to this professor I have minor in sociology.
Dr. Kalanzi is really good. She cares about us as students and calls us the future leaders of the world. She is encouraging and she pushes us to read other books outside of class if we find a certain topic interesting. She gives us activities throughout classes and it is a nice break from the lecture. She explains e
Very interesting course. Dr. Kalanzi is good at what she does. If you do what you are expected to do, you will do well in the course. Most of my friends also like this course. Actually, they recommended I take it. I did the work and was not disappointed. Thanks Dr. Kalanzi.
Very interesting course. The professor is super nice and makes herself available to all of us. I did well in her class. Take her. If you do what she asks you to do you will pass the class. I had no issues at all.
I took sociology with De. Kalanzi. Very nice professor. Interesting lectures and she is very helpful. Many videos and movies that also relate to the topic which I enjoyed. I did not have a problem with the course. I recommend her.
The class isinteresting as a whole. Dr. Kalanzi is very helpful in explaining the concepts in class and provides useful and world related information.
Introduction to Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi is easy. But she uses Lockdown browser for the camera. So, you cant look over your notes. Other than that, the class was easy with so many extra credits. Dr. Kalanzi is super nice. I enjoyed this class.
This course was enjoyable. The textbook was the very helpful in understanding the course material. Dr. Kalanzi makes very good use of informational videos and relevant documentaries, very interesting to watch.
I didn't like this professor tbh. She may seem nice but she was very condescending in class and emails which were off-putting. Lectures were useless, so self-studying is a better alternative by far.
This was an elective course. The professor was pretty nice. However, she wants students to take responsibility of their learning. I liked this. Not to get everything on the silver plate. Although challenging. I liked her as a professor.
Dr. Kalanzi is a pretty good. I took Medical Sociology with her. There were 10 quizzes which I thought was too much. However, it is a 4000 level course and if you keep up with the work, you will do well. All she gives extra credits that help with the grade.
I liked Dr. Kalanzi's lectures. All topics covered are interesting. I liked to hear about other cultures from a global perspective. However, if you do not use the textbook, don't expect to do well. Reading is necessary. Lectures help understand the material in the text. But if you just plan to depend on them, you will not pass. Lowered my grade
Dr. Kalanzi 's instruction is refreshing. She clearly cares about students. She appears to like what she does. Makes a difference for students. Her attitude was always high energy and positive, and she wasnt afraid to make jokes and laugh. I enjoyed her class
Dr. Kalanzi makes this class fun. Even though attendance is not mandatory, she will have an attendance sheet that will count as extra credit. She cares a lot about each student's grade, so she would give opportunities to be successful in the class. However, get ready to read and memorize some stuff from the book because the tests are based on it.
Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi is a good course. It helped me better understand the way of the health care system in the United States specifically and in the world generally. This course is interesting and informative.
Dr. Kalanzi gives quizzes that help students learn about the material (I like to quizzes). She offers discussions that are helpful because they makes students talk about certain topics as a class. Not having a comprehensive exam is also very helpful. No stress over comprehensive examinations.
I have taken a few courses with Dr. Kalanzi. She is fair, and she goes above and beyond to help her students. She gives thorough explanations of the course material, and she is always available when needed. Her teaching style enhances the learning experience. She is the reason I chose sociology as a minor because she opened my eyes to a whole new l
Dr. Kalanzi is a good professor. She gives students many resources and options in order to succeed. It was a pleasure being a part of her online class, and this was my first online class. Really helpful professor.
Good teacher overall. She really wants her students to do good. She offers extra credit and rounded up both finals. I took her online. She is good about emailing and keeping us updated. The only thing is that you cannot see which questions you got wrong on the quizzes and these may pop up on the exam. The finals were a little confusing.
RUN! I took this class because it was going to be an easy A, but after the first test she changed the webcam policy to require one for online tests and refused to give us a study guide. Her lectures have nothing to do with the tests, they are all from test banks, only go to lecture for extra credit. Get ready to learn the information on your own.
I did well in this course. I really liked. I thought it was so easy. Although I did not go in expecting an easy A. Going to lectures and the movies that were related to the topics were useful to me. Dr. Kalanzi is also very nice to her students
I have taken 3 courses taught by Dr. Kalanzi. I found her courses interesting. She cares about students. She is fair in her grading. She uses lockdown browser for assessments which is good. I am an honor roll student and had problems with cheating students. The system is is good because everyone is judged based on their potential not cheating.
I took Social Inequality with Dr. Kalanzi. She was a nice person and was passionate about what she was teaching about. I was a sophomore but the course is a 3000 level, but still I did somewhat well on it. A friend of mine told me to take her. I found the course interesting. Good professor.
I took Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi. I have no complaints at all. The course was well taught. I followed the syllabus and completed all my assignments on time. No problem. The course opened my eyes about medical sociology. Good course. Learnt a lot.
This professor is great. Applies concepts to real world scenarios. Interesting course.
Social Inequality is the best online class I have taken so far. Dr. Kalanzi does a good job on it. I enjoyed the lectures and movies.
She's a really nice person just not a good professor. Attendance is what barely helped me get a B in the class. Every thing she teaches is not on the test so its pointless. She is very petty and can be patronizing. She is also hard to understand with her accent at times. I would not take her again.
I WOULD NOT EVER TAKE HER!! There are 4 exams, all online! From this website I thought it would be an easy A. However, after the first exam she started using the WEBCAM. Her lectures have nothing to do with the exams, they come from a random bank ,hates when you email her, read read read to pass! Saving grace- extra credit attendance. HARD A
Dr. Kalanzi knows and is passionate about the subject. This course was refreshing. She clearly cared about all of us, making us more willing to do her work. Her attitude was always high energy and positive.
I liked this course. It was well organized. The professor follows the course schedule well. As a person, she is very sincere and passionate about her work. I had not complaint in all.
I did well in Dr. Kalanzi class. It is interesting. The professor provided ample time to complete exams. She also went over material in class that I feel helped me succeed on the exams.
The professor provides ample time to complete assessments. She is a great teacher. I did well in both classes I took with her. No complaints.
Took online you will HAVE TO READ to pass 10 quiz(lock browser/10 questions) quiz are the hardest. 10/DB's & 10/Papers one pagers. The material is interesting, and captures your attention, which makes the writing part very easy. Very nice processor and willing to help you pass the class, but in a fair way to all. I would take again for sure!

I had Dr Kalanzi for Sociology of Inequality in class and had her for Medical Sociology in the Summer. In the summer,it was fast paced:10 reaction papers, 10 discussion boards and 10 quizzes but you can get extra credit at the end. It was a lot of work but fairly easy if you follow the guidelines.
You can tell she is very passionate about teaching but it is difficult to pass tests if you do not read the book. Her power points are pointless and its pointless to go to class because nothing on there is on the test. Hard to study for, especially because her power points seem to never have a solid structure to them.
There's not enough room for this, so I'll just try to sum it all up. First of all, she's rude and Incredibly unhelpful - don't even try to ask/answer a question in this class unless you like being made to feel stupid. Don't show up either, attendance isn't worth anything and she's an awful lecturer. Just stay home and study by yourself, trust me.
She does all her exams online, but someone in my class told on the class for cheating, so she started using webcam, which watches us take the test. Showing up for class is not mandatory but she adds extra credit to your tests if you show. Her powerpoint don't really help much, so buy the book.
The tests were way too hard. I watched her lecture, read the textbook, and the movies and I still failed both exams. She only offered 5 points extra credit on the 2nd exam and that still left me failing the tests. Very rude, actually. I went to her office and she made me feel stupid for asking why it was this answer instead of that one. Never again
Gives students many resources and options in order to succeed. Pleasure being apart of her online class, and this was my first online class. Really helpful professor.
The instructor gave very detailed power point presentations and excellent support articles and movies!
I took Dr. Kalanzi for Social Inequality. She opened my eyes with every single lecture. Amazing course.
Hands down the best online professor Ive ever taken! Gets back to students super fast and genuinely cares about students success
Introduction to Sociology with Professor Kalanzi was a good experience. The course was amazing and I liked it lots.
I love Dr. Kalanzi's teaching style. She really tries to work with students.
Medical Sociology was a good course with Professor Kalanzi. It was helpful in the section I took that she self-recorded and brought it to blackboard although this class was online. It was tremendously important because it strengthened the ideas that i had read from books. I do recommend this course. Eye opener.
I took Dr. Kalanzi for Social Inequality online and I liked the course. Kalanzi used a lot of movies that I enjoyed watching. Her lectures were also informative and entertaining. The instructor was great.
Great professor! The tests are word for word from the book! lectures are long, but they have a lot of test material too! Moves a little fast on the slides, but not everything is important. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT Extra Credit for showing up!
Took my Intro with instructor Kalanzi. I liked how humble she is, and how she talks about justice issues in society and around the world. She shines when she talks about sociology. Very nice woman, very interesting and easy to pay attention to.
This course has lectures, tests and discussion forums. I enjoyed everything but especially discussion forums because they help retain what is learned, offering an opportunity to discuss material with my classmates. Dr. Kalanzi is also a good professor
I took Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi in the Summer and I loved it so much. Lectures are recorded. This is tremendously important because it strengthens the ideas from books. I never met her in person, but she is a great professor. I took her online class.
This course is entirely online taught by Dr. Kalanzi. A good teacher. The course is good because it helps better understand the health care system in the United States and in the world. This course is interesting and informative.
Dr. Kalanzi gives many resources and options in order to succeed. Pleasure being apart of her online class, and this was my first online class. Really helpful professor.
Super easy A. The exams are online, and some will have a webcam in addition . She is passionate. Attendance is extra credit, also the signature assignments are essay that are required for UT but she puts it as extra credit. She is not very clear on her directions and gets annoyed with emails really quickly.
Your grade consists of only the four exams taken. She's a really nice professor and really passionate about sociology. The four exams are online, the final three with webcam. Signature assignments and attendance are easy ways to get extra points on your exams. Directions can be kinda hard to understand and she did get annoyed by people's emails.
Dr. Kalanzi gives students many resources and options in order to succeed. Glad took her class. My first online class. Really helpful professor.
This class is not hard BUT you must use the study guide for test. HINT: Make sure you are looking up answers in the reading material she issues out and not just the book. You don't need to read the entire thing. Also, she gives tons of extra credit and she cares about your final grade.
Good professor but her tests are very hard and gives a lot of extra credit. Her grading is very good but her tests are difficult. All her other things were pretty easy plus many of the assignments are just a one page essay over something you learned during that lesson.
I took my Introduction to Sociology course with Professor Kalanzi. The class was enjoyable. The exams were kind of hard if you did not study. Otherwise, studying makes it an easy A. Extra credits too come in handy at times.
Professor Kalanzi is a nice person but not a good professor. You must buy the book because all of the test questions come directly from specific paragraphs in the book. You do not have to attend her lectures because they will not help and she's late to class majority of the semester. She does give extra credit but it doesn't really help.
I took Introduction to Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi and found it very interesting. She uses a lot of examples and her connections to the real world during her lectures helps memorize a lot of the material she teaches.
This professor is very nice and cares about students. I appreciated the extra credits given for attendance and participation in class. If you dont do too well on the exam, attendance and participation comes in handy. Interesting lectures.
Dr. Kalanzi is very approachable and very well educated. I took her Introduction to Sociology course as an elective in my junior year and I found the course to be very informative. She is a good and kind professor.
Ms. Kalanzi's lectures are interesting. They help students engage. I liked that she showed issues at a global scale.
Ms. Kalanzi is a wholesome, fun-spirited teacher who always provide a merry atmosphere in her classroom. Though her high spirits give the impression of an easy course, this proves to not be the case as she gives just as much focus on studying. If you come to class and study, you will do well. Extra credits for class participation help too.
Professor Kalanzi is a very good professor! She is always available through email or office hours for questions and concerns about the class. She is a fair professor and cares about her students. She provides movies, documentaries, and supplementary material to help learn.
Your grades are based on 4 tests each worth 25% of your grade. I suggest you go to lecture because she provides extra credit for attendance and sometimes tells you a question from the next test, but honestly you don't need to go to class if you think you wont need it.
I didn't show up for the majority bc tests are online. But showing up everyclass is extra credit that applies to class. Professor is foreign and hard to understand. but the class is very easy
I have taken Dr. Kalanzi twice and I thoroughly enjoyed her online classes. She really wants everyone to do well in her class therefore she gives A LOT of extra credit. Quite a bit of paper assignments, but they are simple. I wish she taught more Sociology classes online. Easy A!
Dr. Kalanzi explains everything carefully and gives a lot of examples to help understand the material. Lectures and Reading the textbook are essential for this class. Lectures help learn the information. Attendance is not mandatory because she says UTA does not require compulsory attendance, but it helps.
I found this course fair in all. The instructor uzes amazing power points. She also provides interesting optional supplementary materials in videos and readings to help students better understand the topics discussed in class if you need more work. I liked this professor. She knows the material. Attendance not required but helps learn better
Interesting course. The book Kalanzi issues to study is very test-heavy and useful to pass the course. It is easy to understand with pictures, but if you do not read the textbook, you cant depend on lectures alone. I attended class and I really enjoyed her lectures and sometimes interesting in-class activities we engaged in.
Dr. Kalanzi is amazing. Her lectures are well presented and clarify what is in the book which explains her lectures in detail. The class is taught at fairly at a good pace although you have to take your own notes. Good for me. The professor also sends detailed emails for assignments and tests. Which helps if you have so much going on not to for
Kalanzi is a nice lady. You will need to read the text to pass the course. Her lectures help because they are clear with examples. I enjoyed this course.
Dr. Kalanzi is a good professor. Interesting class. Attending lectures helps your grade. Lectures are interactive. Covers extensive material.
I really liked Dr. Kalanzi as a professor. Kalanzis lectures in class are really engaging and help learn the material. At times it was really exciting during class. I liked Kalanzi good mood. She appears to like what she does.
Does NOT post power points online. Showing up to class gets you extra credit on exams. Only 4 exams comprise your grade in class. Exams are online on a lockdown browser and records you while taking each exam. No homework or other assignments. Has a thick African accent. Reading the book helps. She is actually sweet and nice. Hard of hearing.
Nice professor. Attendance for this class helps to pass the course as Kalanzis lectures help to clarify material. However, you must read the book to pass this class because she does not cover all book content in class. The course material is manageable though because professor Kalanzi spaces it out.
I liked this course. Assessments include 4 exams on line which makes it easier as she gives you at least 48 hours windows to complete exams. Kalanzi gives good feedback if approached. I personally like her accent.
This course is a good pace. Assessments are OK or fair. Attendance helps. Dr. Kalanzi semi engages students with activities helping apply Sociology to real life. Visuals and movies in class aid understanding material
The course is an easy A. You do not have to go to class nor buy the book she tells you is required. There is only 4 grades, which is the 4 exams, but they are easy.
The class was ok. I felt like the overall concept was just really repetitive. We had to listen to her online lectures and it was a little tough for me to pay attention sometimes. I did not do so well on the online tests (on lockdown browser), but the extra credit helped out. You also must do the discussion boards, but it was overall an ok class.
Took Dr. Kalanzi for upper level course Social Inequality. Good professor. Online course. Available when needed. Nice professor. This was the 3rd course I took with her.
Medical Sociology was interesting when I took it with Dr. Kalanzi. Lectures were inspiring. Best online class I ever took.
I took Introduction to Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi and I liked the course. Covers material with examples taken from around the world. Helps understand the subject better.
If you have the choice NEVER take this professor she is terrible at lecturing, don't post the power points. speaks and types in broken English. would never choose this professor again even if I was dying.
Do NOT take her. I took her for social inequality. She is not clear about anything, her powerpoints are not helpful at all and she doesn't post them, she holds you accountable for your grade even though attendance is "extra credit." Just do not waste your time.
Took for intro to SOCI. Loved the lectures. She was always knowledgeable about the subject and was prepared for class; however, the tests would often contain information that she never mentioned but was in the text. It is NECESSARY to read the text. Everything except the tests are extra credit, including attendance and the Signature Assignment.
Dr. Kalanzis class is enjoyable. All materials presented is enjoyable. Gives many life examples that are enjoyable and make sense of what is being learned. I personally, appreciated the way she would care for the students.
This professor was super helpful. Teaches material at a good pace and tries to get students to participate. Really makes sure studnets understood the lectures
Clear presentation of materials. The professor is always accessible. Her exams very fair and she provided extra credit which was nice.
I enjoyed this class with professor Kalanzi. I liked the variety of ways to learn the content throughout the course. Readings, video lectures, all were interesting. An efficient and convenient way of learning. The professor makes herself available and is very interested in the success of everyone in the class. The workload wasn't easy but was chal
I haven't had classes with such heavy/demanding workload. But so thankful. I am a better thinker. Videos/lectures help understand. Very fair/understanding. You work for the grade but get so much. I will add some concepts to my masters degree. Dr. Kalanzi is brilliant/honest. Thankful this class pushed me hard to study and understand the subject.
Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi was really interesting. I was pleased with it. Dr. is fair and honest. I appreciated it her very much. I thought the class layout was really well done, overall and I would take her again if I could.
From my experience it seemed like through the whole semester she read straight from the powerpoints. However she really wants all her students to succeed and is able to work with you on issues that come up. Attendance was extra credit. Slides were not available outside of class so it was either come to class or buy and study the textbook.
Prof Kalanzi was passionate about what she was teaching and cared about her students. I also liked the class because it was an eye opener. I could relate to much of what was taught.
I liked this course. I enjoyed the discussion forums. lectures and movies that went along with readings. They were helpful in understanding the material and they were interesting to watch as well.
She would often focus too much on examples (ie. personal stories) rather than actual concepts. She would skim through important slides but not go back even after asked to. But, as long as your fast, you'll do good. Also, attendance is extra credit. There are only 4 grades - the exams, and then extra credit (signature assignments/discussions)
terrible class. shes a great person tho. doesn't post the powerpoints nor will she go back if you missed something. I depended heavily on the textbook. she wasn't a really good teacher. tests were hard and little things in the textbook that you think wouldn't be on the test were. attendance is extra credit and assignments (essays mostly).
I really liked this class because I learn better with visuals. The visual examples and videos provided in this class are good. They help remember the material, even after the course is over.
Coming to class comes with benefits for this class. Dr. Kalanzi is very understanding. She was very kind and truly wanted everyone to succeed.
I took this course online. It was well organized, which helps so much! I liked the online webinars broken up into parts. It help to learn while taking a break from reading the book.
Interesting course. I really enjoyed this course and everything that was offered. Kalanzi, had a lot of real-life examples which I really enjoyed, and would make sense. I appreciate the way she would care for the students, and loved the extra credit.
One of the best professors I took in college. Caring and accessible. The exams were very fair. Extra credits were nice.
Really enjoyed this course and everything that she brought into it. The textbook gives a lot of information that is helpful. Professor Kalanzi had a lot of real life examples which I really enjoyed and would make sense. She is passionate about what she is teaching and cares about her students
When I took this class, I found professor super helpful. Teaches material at a good pace. And tries to get students to participate. Really makes sure lectures are understood.
Uses powerpoint slides that make material clear. Kalanzi is also always accessible. Her exams very fair and she provides extra credit which was nice.
Good class. The workload is just right. Enough time to study and get a good grade. Lectures help your grade. Professor is willingness to engage students via Email is also beneficial. Liked the instructor.
Dr. Kalanzi is an amazing prof! She is very invested in her students' success in the course- so don't be afraid to reach out. Attendance was used as extra credit on exams, which was well worth it. Read the textbook and work through the study guide for exams! And we never had class fridays! If you need a soci credit, Dr. Kalanzi is a great choice:)
The ultimate experience when I took this course was life changing. I felt Dr. Dorothy Kalanzi went over, above, and beyond, providing teaching materials like documentaries, lectures, and additional resources. The material was on point and her teaching was excellent.
Indifferent to technical issues or otherwise.
Good professor. Uses readings, lectures, videos, and discussions. These help understand the viewpoint of historical and medical victim's viewpoint on illnesses.
Kalanzis lectures are interesting. She structures them to be paired with readings.
Interesting course. There are a variety of ways to learn the content. Professor provides a textbook chapter, video lectures, and additional videos perfectly related to the topic. It is an efficient and convenient way of learning. The professor made herself available through email and was very interested in the success of everyone in the class. The
The instructor provides plenty of explanation or examples in the course lectures as well as opportunities to understand material and make a good grade. The exams require lockdown browser. In the beginning it is intimidating, but actually a good method for fairness and no problem to use at all.
I enjoyed Dr. Kalanzis class. The format for the course was lectures, movies, discussions, and exams. I enjoyed all of them. The professor is clear as to what is expected for the class and was available to answer questions.
This course provided lots of interesting information. Power Point lectures were good, a great deal. It made class more real and less virtual. Kalanzi also a good woman. Loved her.
I liked the professor. Her lecture videos honestly helped me understand the material a lot more than if I had just been reading the textbook. She was also very nice and understanding.
Dr. Kalanzi was a great professor and I loved her lectures. Her exams are easy as long as you pay attention in class and read the book!
This class is enjoyable. Class discussions are more enjoyable. Dr. Kalanzi used discussions and quizzes which was fair. The material will help me as a future nurse. Dr. Kalanzi is quick to reply communication. Very understanding woman. I appreciated her kindness throughout the course. She believes students success. Gives good feedback.
This class was online. No same time meeting online. Lectures, videos, discussions, quizzes etc. For me it was a pretty smooth experience, thanks to Dr. Kalanzi.
The Professor is well knowledgeable of the course content. She personally reaches out to students and encourage those who are lagging behind. She works hard to make every student in her class succeed. The course is inspiring and gave me tools to succeed in this diverse country.
Shes awesome! She made the class material interesting we watched movies that helped tons! She was very caring and always reachable for those who need help with the class. 100% recommend her!!
Read the textbook and do the discussion boards and you will pass. Some of the scheduling for tests was confusing and she wasn't always clear about assignments.
DONT TAKE HER! SAVE YOURSELF! SHE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR AT UTA. HER LECTURES ARE USELESS BECAUSE SHE IS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND! SHE COVERS BARELY ANY INFO IN LECTURES AND WHEN SHE'S SPEAKING IT SOUNDS LIKE SHE ON A DIFFERENT PLANET. YOU WILL NEED TO HEAVILY DEPEND ON THE BOOK! AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE TEXTBOOK, ITS SO HARD TO FOLLOW!
She is an extremely caring professor. Turn everything in on time, review her video lectures, review power point lectures, and you should be fine. Quizzes and tests are easy as long as you review lectures, power points and the chapter in the book it corresponds to. Honestly this was the easiest A i've ever gotten.
Easiest A I ever received. She was awesome.I learned a lot. Explains everything in detail. Gives you opportunities to make up assignments. The tests are directly on the material in the lectures and the book. Read the chapters and participate in the discussions, you will definitely pass.
I really enjoyed taking the course, Dr. Kalanzi's Power Points and videos, movie reference help understand the material. Engaging through discussions with other classmates , gives makes it possible to communicate and understand everyone's point of view. Good class.
The professor is always available and help students understand the topics with interesting movies, videos and discussions. Grades based on discussions. Easy. Also 3 exams. Not comprehensive. 4 topics only each exam. Extra credits are also given. Interesting.
Dr. Kalanzi was a very sweet professor and helps students in any way possible. I was grateful for that. I loved how interactive this professors Canvas page was. It was easy to use and kept me wanting to interact with everyone in class. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this course!
Her class was so nice and easy as long as you turned in your work at the end of the week .
For this course, Dr. Kalanzi is very nice. The book is very important. The lectures help with understanding of the course. The discussion boards are open and informative. I personally enjoyed these in the course.
Good professor. Readings in this course are enjoyable. I also enjoyed listening to the lectures, and completing the class discussions. Everything was good.
She is really nice, and the class was super easy. Do your work and you will get a guaranteed A
Dr. Kalanzi is so sweet! I took her course over the summer and it was super easy. Just make sure you read the textbook and you can get away without the listening to the lectures. She offers a lot of extra credit if you need it but honestly I doubt you will. The discussion posts and quizzes are short. Overall the class is great and really enjoyable!
Took this course as a 8 week online course, very easy. Do your work and you'll pass. a lot of discussions, participation matters. She will open all the modules though so you can work ahead. would def take her again.
I went to her class up until the first test and then she informed us that the test were based off the textbook. So I stopped going and just started reading the textbook reviews. Lots of extra credit discussions.
Dr. Kalanzi is the sweetest, but her lectures don't really do a whole lot. She really relies on the textbook, so her lectures are only elaborating on the concepts you read about. Easy A class as long as you kind of know what the textbook is talking about (but a lot of it is also common sense).
I found this course very interesting. Dr. Kalanzi did a good job organizing it on line. Very user friendly. All material was helpful. it has lectures, videos, discussions, etc. Readings are a must to get a good grade.
I liked this course. It possess materials with the different recording. Makes it dynamic. Really enjoyed brainstorming policy and viewing med sociology from a global perspective. Discussions were always informative. I also liked movies that related to covered material. Helps understand better
Good professor. I liked the way that this course's lectures were broken down into small videos. I loved the little animations on the pages. The reviews were helpful. The extra credit discussion posts really helped with my grade! She responds to E-mails quickly. I am taking another course with her.
Good course., Appreciates was Dr Kalanzi's approach using different sources in modern culture to explore topics. I found her discussion assignments exciting and challenging, they also help explore own thoughts on the topic vs. simply knowing the topic, which promotes action. She is a fantastic teacher who obviously wants her students
+++ for this course. I took Dr. Kalanzi on this online course. The material was easy to understand and very interesting. Readings were interesting and not hard and the quizzes are pretty fair to complete if you read your stuff and complete class activities. Discussions are great. Did not have exams. I plan to take other course with Kalanzi.
I took Medical Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi. I liked the suggested films, readings, and lecture material. It helps to learn a lot about the subject. Her emphasis on the struggles facing the poor and disadvantaged groups helps open minds to new ideas.
I really enjoyed taking this course with Dr. Kalanzi. The professor PowerPoints and videos, movie references help understand the material . Engaging through discussion with other classmates , gave us a way to communicate and understand everyone's point of view.
Dr. Kalanzi is great! She really goes ham on canvas. Tests are centered around key terms and bolded info which make them pretty easy to study for. Discussions are actually interesting sometimes.
If you need to take SOCI 1311, please take Dr. Kalanzi. Attendance is not mandatory so I never attended class really. Grades are based off 4 exams only which seems intimidating but it is not. The discussion posts are extra credit for the exams and the extra credit is GENEROUS. As long as you read the text book, or slides, you will be set with an A.
What I liked about Dr. Kalanzi's class is that it actually worked the way I thought all the accelerated online classes would work. Can work at our own pace. Work to be completed by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. but no due dates. This is what classes for online working adults should be. There was no stress trying to juggle work and homework deadlines. Best.
I liked Dr. Kalanzis instructional approach for this course. Every organizational aspect of this course was good for me. I was able to learn from the lectures, textbooks and movies. The discussion boards further help understand the topics. Grading is fair. Not to say professor is real nice to students and cares for students success.
The class is based off of 4 exams and everything is in the textbook, so lots of reading and studying on your own. Lectures werent required and I didnt find them to be helpful. However the professor is very hard to reach and does not answer questions in emails or in lectures and will tell students to wait til class is over to ask questions.
Dr. Kalanzi is the best professor ever. She knows all her materials and she really wants her students to understand. She reminds students to finish the assignment if it's incomplete. She is the perfect example of what a professor should be like. Love her class.
Awesome. Dr. Kalanzi organizes this course well. Lectures are broken down into separate videos and it is great! Everything about the course if it stays the same is great!
Dr. Kalanzi organized this course well. Truly Dr. Kalanzis videos are enjoyable for discussions. They help many future BSN nurses in our futures. The professor is very personable and kind. You feel that you can approach her at any time and you get audience.
I would highly recommend taking Sociology with Dr. Kalanzi!
She's so sweet and caring, but her lectures weren't very helpful. I would recommend just reading the textbook or her powerpoints and teaching yourself (not hard - it's a pretty easy class). She would have movie days when you watch an assigned movie and post in a discussion board as well as short extra credit research papers.
Dr. Kalanzi promotes learning environment by supporting student in many ways. I think the learning objects and presentations for each modules help focus on important topics or subject.
By Dr. Kalanzi. This is a good online course. When I took it, I liked the flexibility of the assignment due dates. The syllabus and course calendar tell you what's due and when. Lecture videos, and power point slides help narrow the focus on the material from reading.
I liked the way Dr. Kalanzi designed this course, it was very straightforward. The lecture videos helped me a lot. She also keeps E-mailing about due assignments. I did like that. I also liked the textbook and its readability. Lectures were great if attended, and discussions were engaging.
Took for a 5 week summer semester and had to drop. Quizzes were 2 attempts ea timed 15 min. You can't go back & double check your answers once you submit an answer it locks the previous question. Chapters 30+ pages each and the lecture videos have nothing to do with quizzes. I took 8-10 pages of notes from book and still made 60's on both quizzes.
Doctor Kalanzi's class for SOCI 1301 for a summer session was so easy. In the beginning I was hesitant because there is a lot of reading to do but once you get the hang of it, it is so easy. This class doesn't have any exams only quizzes so that's a plus! The discussion board's are also super easy, you just have to put in the work.
I think this class was pretty easy and Dr. Kalanzi is very caring. When I had an issue with my quiz, she fixed it right away. I also appreciated the reminders she sent for when the course was ending. The discussion posts are straightforward and a good way to engage, especially in an online classroom.
Professor Kalanzi is great! She's a very forgiving teacher. I had her over the summer and she is very understanding and emphatic when it comes to late grades. As long as you do your work, you'll be just fine!
Speaks with an accent but super nice and lenient grader.
This course consisted of short lecture videos in each of the modules to help get a brief overview of the current topic, as well as how the power point slides are included as reference. I think having discussion boards and quizzes is perfect to help understand the material and help to obtain the information we learned.
Dr. Kalanzi uses quizzes for this course. I loved that we only had quizzes for each chapter and not any tests, less stressful and enjoyed learning about the topics more.
I liked this course. It was a good experience of an online course. Lectures were thorough in explaining course concepts and topics.
Dr. Kalanzi does a good job teaching this course. It also includes movies and videos that throw more insights and really help in learning the course material.
I liked this online course. The way this course is structured in modules is great and easy to navigate. The readings, videos, PowerPoint, discussions and tests are well organized and easy to navigate and extremely helpful.
Dr. Kalanzi is a good instructor that supports students in various ways. She is usually available and happy to meet students and discuss their issues or help them with course problems. The course is simply designed for anyone to understand. She is also a vey nice woman who cares about students success. I loved her course.
This is a good online course. When I took it, I liked the flexibility of the assignment due dates. The syllabus and course calendar tell you what's due and when. Lecture videos, and power point slides help narrow the focus on the material from reading.
For this course, we had to do a lot of thinking for ourselves, and taking that initiative helps learn. The course's simple instructions make the goal of learning materials attainable to understand. I enjoyed the discussion forums and interaction with other students' conversation points.
She is a nice teacher, but in terms of the class itself, I did struggle a bit. Exams required LBD+webcam. Her canvas page was a little bit of a pain to navigate. However, the EXTRA CREDIT saved my grade. Do all the extra credit and try to have an ok grade in each exam, otherwise don't stress about taking this class.
I thought this would be an easy class and was doing great at first. However, the exams came around and I did horrible. For this course we had to use Lockdown browser plus webcam/microphone. You cannot use notes and there can be no noise during the test. I did great on all of the discussion boards but the exams dropped my grade significantly.
amazing intro to sociology professor, you can tell she really cares for her students. graded discussions, and 10-question exams. will ace the course if you study.
This is coming from a 4.0 student who is in 4 honor societies that had to drop this class...Don't take her. Language barrier is strong. Test are very difficult, study guide was useless & requires lockdown. No email reply's but expects you to zoom call. Gave me a deduction and when I asked why she said she didn't know and took it off.
Dr. Kalanzi is very thorough with each lesson. This professor uses different strategies. I believe the PowerPoint help to summarize a lot of the important points that make answering the discussions easier to answer without being confused.
I enjoyed this course. The most helpful resource for this course, besides the textbook, was the PowerPoints provided. Before taking a quiz and after reading the book, go through the slide shows. Very helpful in reviews.
I enjoyed it especially the content Dr. Kalanzi builds into the course. Great resources, as well as references to specific topics (in the textbook) to have exactly what one needs to succeed in the class. Videos, textbook, and her own lectures, with powerpoints to completely understand the content before the quiz.
Professor is helpful. Super nice, and always listens to students questions. If you have issues or personal challenges, she is understanding.
Dr. Kalanzi provides an influx of information and a variety of ways to learn the material. Helped me customize my own way of learning. The textbook, videos, lectures and discussion boards allow students a safe space to express ideas and views on a particular area also helped.
Dr. Kalanzi is very helpful, super nice, and always listens to student's questions. If you have issues or personal challenges, she is understanding. I loved this class. I also did well.
Dr.Kalanzi's class was an easy A in my opinion. The course material is not difficult to follow as long as you review the material and read the chapters. Quizzes consist of mainly material from the textbook and PowerPoints. She's an easy grader when it comes to the discussion post also long as you answer the question and meet the word count.
Took medical sociology summer of 2024 as a second summer semester. Highly recommend taking this course online in a short semester. Easy grader, very kind teacher. Many quizzes but they were mostly common sense. You do need to read but I got away with skimming the PowerPoints. Take the class easy A!
Dr. Kalanzi's class is well-structured and manageable. The PowerPoints and textbook help summarize key points, and tools like unstuckstudy ai can aid study prep. Overall, an engaging and rewarding course.
Great, catering to different learning styles. Manageable workload.
Very tough grader. They grade discussions based off requirements not stated in the rubric or syllabus. Make sure you ask what is expected of the grading process before submitting because the rubric is not clear. Doesn't provide clarification on emails either.
Dr. Kalanzi provided her in-class lectures for us online students and also broke down the textbook material. Therefore, studying for the test was easy! The tests were proctored so it is important to study. I learned a lot from her class and I would highly recommend her as a professor.
No page for Dr. Kalanzi at UTD, so I'm leaving it here. Honestly, I'd recommend taking this class with another professor. The MCQ exams are based on the textbook, but the question style is very vague, so much so that multiple choices could be correct for a given question. There's also a tedious weekly discussion board that takes a long time.
Lecture-heavy class with a lot of reading, so studying is a MUST. Exams are 70% of the grade (3 total) and discussion boards is 30% (13 total). The class started in person but moved online. She offers extra credit that actually helps your grade and is very responsive to emails. Overall manageable if you stay on top of the material.
