I'm a law student now, she is one of the worst professors I had. She doesn't know her stuff, but likes to think she does.

She is boring. She likes to talk, but not directly toward her students. She has no idea who you are when you enter her class or when you exit it.
Interesting lectures, hard tests. Does not answer phone calls or emails and forgets that you talked to her the week before about being out of town.
She's a nice lady, but she's strays from the topic a lot. She only gives T/F tests so if you aren't good with T/F you should choose a different teacher.

Telecourse was pretty easy
I think she's a great teacher. Some might think she's boring, but I find what she has to say pretty interesting. She gives breaks for the longer classes as well. Overall if you're someone that wants to teach history, you'll learn a lot from this teacher.
She goes off on way too many tangents. Hard to follow what she's talking about but very nice.
Mrs. Mapes is a very well-spoken, educated, clear talker, and gives you time to write during her lecture. Highly reccomended. Tests T/F, one essay. Breaks given in longer classes. She completely changed my world-view. I got an A.

I took the telecourse - I was never able to contact her during the semester, even though I tried. The telecourse had the most boring videos ever, and the test were all True/False, and very tricky. She gave study lists , so I knew EXACTLY what to study.

Mapes is a very monotonal, boring, unorganized teacher. She knows what she's talking about but does not stay on track. At this point in the semester, 2 weeks from the end, we should be covering World War 2, and we haven't even gotten into World War 1..take this class with a professor other than her
She was always willing to help me outside of class. It was an interesting class and she told a lot of good historical stories, but she often tested on stuff she never covered and repeated many points several times as if she had forgotten that we covered it.
She is very willing to help a student and has a very vast mind behind her lectures. Classs maybe slightly boring but she always makes sure everyone understands.
She has A LOT of knowledge on everything she teaches. I'd say she's one of the most knowledgable teachers I've had. Who cares about how "boring" the class may be? I learned more from her than any history teacher I've ever had and that's all that matters. If you want to learn history, take her class.

She is old. She needs to have more activities in the class instead of lecturing from her half-ass notes. Have fun sleeping in the class.
Boring and unclear on what she wants on tests.
Her teaching style is no longer relevant to those seeking higher education. Class moves slowly and Mapes doesn't seem to plan anything. Her basic knowledge of the subject matter does not make her a good teacher. I'm dissapointed to pay for a class where nothing is happening.
She is very monotonal, clueless that the bookstore doesn't have the book that we need and doesn't do much about it. Never responds to emails when you need a question answered. All of her tests are True/False and essay. So if you bad a T&F don't take her class. Take Mike Light instead.
kind of boring but she definately covers every single thing that will be on the test, in order. if you go to class and take notes, the tests are super easy.
Mapes...What can I say other than a total waste of my time and money. Her teaching style is older than she is. 90% of students learn visually not orally, she lectures for the entire class and writes 2 words on the board all day. She always arrives to class 5-10 min late but expects us there on time.
Watch out, this lady is insane. She talks at -5mph and people that are in there are crrrazy. Get outta there as soon as you can. DR sucks
REALLY knows her stuff. Doesn’t make you memorize dates, just general order of people and events. Just 4 tests, 2 short papers. Final is not cumulative. Study guides passed out week before tests. Take good notes, study the whats on the study guide and you will have no problems. Great teacher
Even if you follow her study guide and read the material her tests involve more than what you can learn from the materials given.

Worst Teacher Ever.
c'mon, y'all are breaking balls a bit hard eh? History isn't exactly the most exciting class to teach. She was bit boring, but she was a decent teacher, there are worse.
Half the things on her test she doesnt cover. I often find myself unintentionally drifting off. Her whole class is notes.
Yeah she's boring and old, but she does teach pretty well. If you take good notes, you'll do fine on the test, I don't care what the others said, everything on the test was covered in class, plus she gives you a study guide, if you do that and take notes you'll for sure get an A!
Her teaching style is all lecture, but if you take all the notes and actually STUDY them, than you will pass this class. Her tests are somewhat challenging because they are all T/F, but she will take feedback if a question was unfairly worded. She is flexible with students that give the extra effort. Somewhat disorganized at times, but good prof.
Boring class, but not very hard. Expects a lot on her tests (essay parts) but the outside papers are easy, tests are all T/F and one Essay. Just study and show up and its not bad.

If it wasn't for my laptop, and facebook, I wouldn't have made it through the semester. I never opened my book. The questions weren't from the book. They were from Dorothy's head.
Her class is interesting, and I enjoy listening to her..most of the time..Her tests are hard! They are all t/f, but she words them herself and they differ from the book! I'm learning a lot from her, just not doing to well on the tests. The study guides are kind of irrelevent to the tests as well. Overall=okay teacher.
She is a great teacher if you like to learn about history. If you don't, then this class will be incredibly boring. Make sure you don't have this class first thing in the morning! and don't worry about buying the text book (hs-250)but you should buy the other accompanied book because you'll do some homework out of it.
She's a very good teacher, but be sure to take good notes because the test is from her notes, not from the book. Her tests are only T/F and tricky, and she's also VERY opinionated! Unless your class in engaged in conversation, it's dull.
This class is extremely boring. Don't take it at 7:45 a.m. she'll put you right to sleep. Tests are VERY tricky. She talks the whole hour and a half. Avoid at all costs!!!
She lectures for hours straight, and then gives questions 50 true or false and one essay, and it is very hard.
She is a good teacher, she really knows the material, although the class is pretty boring. she grades very easy(especually for the essays)she also lets you use your notes for the essay portion of the test!
She rambles the whole entire hour, but with good intentions. Her test questions never match the study guide or lectures. You cant use the bathroom or get a during during her class eithor.
Too boring for 7:45 AM....tests make no sense and she's always late. Don't try getting up to use the restroom. She'll lock you out and yell at you after class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. ONLY COME IF YOU NEED 2 CATCH UP ON SLEEP OR HOMEWORK FOR AN COURSE OTHER THAN THIS ONE.
Mapes is a boring history teacher. Her tests aren't hard but you should study for them. Her True/False approach to tests is extremely perfected.
Her class is boring. All you do is take notes, there no teacher-stundent interacting whatsoever.
I go to this class to go to sleep. occasionally, i'll stay up to jot down some notes, then its back to sleep for me. If u have a labtop, make sure you bring it so u can browse facebook/myspace till class is over.
Professor Maps has some very strange mannerisms, and her style of teaching is simply notes. Her tests are true/false and fairly easy as long as you look over your notes before class. She's always late. Don't bother buying the book I didn't use it once. It was a waste of money.

she is a good teacher if u like to learn history, her study guides are good, although her t/f tests are often tricky and some of the questions are never covered in class and i have had her twice unfortunately and these were two of the hardest classes to get a good grade in.
Dorothy is the best Prof I have ever had! As far as if you need to attend or use the book it is really either or! Everything she teaches comes straight from the book, so if you do the reading you could miss the class, but if you do not do any reading you can still do well if you go to class and pay attention! I love her true or false test!
Dorthy is an interesting teacher. All you do is come to class, listen to her speak, take notes, and go home. If you don't take notes, your screwed. She's a really nice lady when you talk to her. Just make sure that you pay attention. The only grades of the class are the 4 true and false tests. Questions can be confusing at times. Just pay attention
I absolutely loved her. She's tough, and you should plan to pay attention - but she is a great professor. At midterm I had a D, but I started actually studying and taking notes and ended the semester with a B+.
