Dr. Vaughn is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She makes math interesting and really cares about your success. All quizzes are done on Maple TA and can be re-taken numerous times, so they really help your grade. (about 2 a week, so just keep up with deadlines) Overall, she's a great teacher.

Very good teacher. Go to class, do homework, ask questions if needed, and there isn't any reason you should not make an A in this class. Doesn't put up with any foolishness like not understanding something because you didn't do the homework or go to class, but at the college level she should not.

Guys if you want to learn Math and be prepared for the next level, Dottie Vaughn is the one you want. There are some that will tell you that she is overly hard. As a diligent student I found her amazing. Teaching a class like Math 1550 is very difficult. She's a pro. You may not reallize how good she is until you have another math teacher.

Dr. Vaughn could teach calculus to a kindergartener. She explains every step thoroughly and manages to make an hour and a half long business calculus class fly by. If you go to her office, she will spend however long it takes helping you with whatever problems you need. She is the sweetest professor you will have, and her accent is precious!

The fact the she's able to teach roughly 800 students calculus at the same time is impressive in itself. Very helpful and wise teacher. Taking notes in class is helpful, but not mandatory. Best tip I can give you is to complete HW and quizzes when they are available, rather than due. Also, STUDY FOR THE FIRST TEST. Easy if you don't play catch up.

GREAT TEACHER! Very creative. I took this class at BRCC and am now retaking it at LSU and she has made the material crystal clear! TAKE HER FOR THIS CLASS and GO to class...and do your homework!

Only 5 test and 1 final she rarely gives extra credit. She drops 1 test and replace it with final.Do HW and look over notes. If you are not a math person study 3 weeks before the test. The test get's harder. Notes and HW are on the test. Feel free to ask her questions.She is very nice about it.Her TA takes too much points on litle things.Watch out

One of the best professors that i have ever had. She is very clear which step by step procedures on how to do everything. I've never sone calculus before this year and she makes it seem easy. Make sure you have her know who you are by name. this will make everything SO much easier.

If you took calculous in high school, you will never have to go to this class. All the solutions she does in class go straight to moodle. She's a really nice lady too.

She puts worked out problems on Moodle and ALL of the Hw, quizzes, and test are on WebAssign which you e to buy. I remember working the problems multiple times to pass.

She is super crazy but a great teacher, almost everyone I know has a 100 in the class or very close to it. You don't have to go to class if you can easily catch on, she puts everything online and there are many people that are willing to help you. So if you don't make an A it's your fault. I recommend taking her class!

One of the best professors at LSU. She may be certifiably crazy but her teaching skills are impeccable. She drops SO MANY bad grades it's ridiculous. If you don't pass this class you just didn't try. I failed two of the three tests and the final exam and got a C in the class.

Never go to class. Easiest thing in the world if you have taken Calc before. Got a very high A with little effort. Use notes online to answer homework and quizzes, and study quizzes for tests. One thing people dont do is USE THE GRAD STUDENT HOURS FOR HELP. They all hold office hours and this math is childs play to them. No excuse to not get an A.

I would highly recommend Dr. Vaughn. She does an excellent job of explaining things. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester and ended up with an A. Just do well on the homework and quizzes and go to lab. If you understand the trial tests, you should do fine on the exams.

Here's an honest review, if you've taken calc before you won't have any trouble with this class. If you haven't this class will be difficult. It's calc, it's a really high level math that takes some people a while to learn. Class isn't mandatory. First test is a joke, second is okay, third is hard, final is okay. Do well on the first two and final.

If you've never taken Calc its hard. you have to do the homework, it'll save you grade in the end. She drops a bunch of grades. Dr. Vaughn is fantastic! Going to class is not mandatory, but I highly recommend it. She posts all of her PowerPoint slides and problem solutions on Moodle, but she explains things very well - and usually shows you shortcuts or an easier way - in class. She is the sweetest teacher I have had at LSU, and I wish I could take her again.

I ended up rarely going to class because it was so far away from my other classes, but when I did go to class she was hilarious and made the class so much more bearable. She gives multiple examples to make it more understandable. Kinda hard if you never took Calc before but notes are on moodle and examples sometimes even on youtube.

Class participation is not mandatory. I had Calc experience back in high school, so I never went to class. She also posts examples on Moodle, which are EXTREMELY helpful. Pretty much just do the homework and quizzes, and if you understand that, you'll understand the test.

I went to a few of classes and honestly I thought she was nuts so I stopped going. All of the work was online, but she worked out problems in class and explained things. She posted sample quizzes and homework on Moodle. Her practice tests are exactly like the real test. Her TAs have an email that you can send your problem to get help.

Best teacher ever. Very fun, made the 2.5hr class much easier with jokes and a great mood in class. You do have to study a little bit, but she makes hard material very easy. 100% recommend to everyone!

Class is tough. If you keep up with the homework and quizzes and you go to your assigned lab you'll pass. Lectures aren't required but if you want better understanding you should attend. It's not an easy subject to learn on your own. I made a B only because I studied a lot for the final.

Made calculus seem almost easy. She is very easy going, sweet, and understanding. Homework came out of the book and did not need to be turned in but I advise you to do it anyway because it really helps with the tests. I believe the tests could only seem hard if you didn't do the homework.

As a non-traditional student, I was worried about taking a business calculus class after 20+ yrs (w/ a class of 850+!!) but her remarkable knowledge and keen, witty, and real life analogies of calculus made the transition a breeze. Mymathlab makes everything easy. Dr. Vaughn also helps explaining things during lecture. The tests are very similar to the practice ones and the practice final exam is almost identical to the final exam. Everything is done online. Dr. Vaughn is also a great help for anyone is not that great at math, as well as your lab instructors.

I absolutely loved Dr. Vaughn! I would definitely take her again. She is extremely funny and could literally teach calculus to a baby. Do the homework, it will help your grade a lot. Dottie is by far the best math professor I've taken at LSU! Her class was super easy. The only downfall was that there was a lot of homework and quizzes, however, she drops your 5 lowest homework's and 2 lowest quizzes. She also replaces your lowest test grade with your final. Dottie made 1431, an over 800 student mega class feel small and personalized. Every lesson was filled with fun movie clips and songs to relate to what we were learning in class on that day. She is quick and concise with delivery and truly wants what is best for all of her students. Success is easy in this course if you put in the time to study.

BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! I will admit that her in class examples are rocket speed fast but other than that, she is easy to understand and say the funniest stuff during her class's. She has 3 tests and the lowest one can be replaced by a higher final grade, there are 24 homeworks (20 counted), 11 quizzes (10 counted), and 13-15 labs (10 counted).

TAKE HER! She gives a practice test for each exam and if you go to class, she gives bonus points for each test. She does a great job at explaining things at a more basic level and doesn't waste your time. She is such a crazy women, so funny, and makes calculus not such a bad/scary thing.

I've taken calculus a few times, so I know about all the calculus teachers here. She is by far the best and most well respected. You can't get any better than Dr. Vaughn. She is the only calculus teacher at this university who will let you use a graphing calculator for tests, which is a BIG deal in calculus.

For an hour and a half class she plays clips of cool movies so its not as boring. Her personality is hilarious and fun. Works examples directly related to homework and tests and will homework and quiz grades so your grade will go up. Do the practice tests beforehand and you will get an A on exams. Don't need to go to class if you're good @ math.

I personally found MATH 1431 to be difficult, but appreciated her dedication. Didn't learn much in her lectures at first, but after a few classes you start to learn from her in class notes. Assigns a lot of homework, but it is easy to get through. Try to understand all topics when they are taught because they come back to bite you in the final.

I'm a sophomore, and I haven't taken a math class since highschool so coming back into full-blown calculus was hard, but Dottie finds ways to explain concepts that makes it so much more bearable. A super precious, enthusiastic little lady. Material on test #3 will be the hardest but if your final is higher than lowest test score, it'll replace it!

This class is what you make of it. If you go to every lecture and are willing to put in the work, youre bound to get an A. Dont let the people who are retaking the class tell you its so hard. They obviously didnt put in enough effort.

Business Calculus is hard for anyone. Class is just lecture to help you on homework and quizzes for that week. Go to class if you need help or teach yourself on Math Lab. You will have to study and put a lot of time towards math to get the grade you want in the class.

I took Professor Vaughn for Math 1431 and she is actually a pretty solid choice. She helps make the material easy to understand. The course is taken in MyMathLab, which basically teaches you the material in homeworks and quizzes. If you are taking this course and have no work ethic, then you will fail this course. Be ready to work and very often.

I was never good at math but she made it extremely easy to understand. Her lectures were very clear and helpful. She uploaded lots of examples of problems and responded well to emails. She made the class fun by including music and movie clips. I would reccommend taking her class.

Lots of homework but it is helpful when learning and studying. Practice tests are the same as actual tests. I only went to class the first 2 weeks.

She keeps the lectures interesting and is very funny. Gave bonus points on days when not many people went to class. You can skip class and just go to the labs and it will not affect your grade, but she does a great job of explaining things in a way everyone can understand.

Okay so I have taken this class twice! Shes a very sweet lady although I have a hard time learning in lecture just because its such a big class and Im not very good at math! This class is an easy class if youre good at math and study the practice test at least a week in advance. Math lab is nice though dont miss math lab very helpful!

shes about 70 years old and has been teaching for ever so she knows what shes talking about. Gives breaks and puts on a inspirational movie clip to keep you going.

She goes a little fast with her lectures and can sometimes be hard to understand, but it's not too bad. She "gives out homework" but it's optional just for you to practice. Exams aren't too bad as long as you study her lecture notes and do practice problems beforehand. A little eccentric but overall a nice professor.

if you go to class and pay attention to the lectures it is not hard to pass the class. She posts practice tests which are the exact same as the real test and goes over a test review in class letting you know how many questions she puts from each section. She is very understanding if you are sick she will let you make up the work or test, loved her!

She makes it easy to understand calculus. Very detailed with her teaching and goes through every step of the problems. The math lab was only for an hour/week and the hws and quizzes were easy. The tests are pretty much exactly like the practice tests just with different numbers so make sure you take advantage of that.

Business Calc is hard but she relieves a lot of stress and tries to help us as much as she can. Even tho shes the only option for this class at LSU she is a really good one.

A very great teacher and if you work hard you will pass. She breaks down things to the t. You want to watch her lecture videos before the homework and do all the h.w and quizzes. Be at least a week ahead on all assignments so you can take a bunch of practice tests because of the different variations of the practice test, a min of 5 practice tests.

I have taken calc before, so I had seen some of this material before. Dr. Vaughn was always quick to provide feedback and she was very knowledgeable of the content. This was a very very time consuming class with all of the homework, but that definitely helped come test time. Do all the work in MatLab, it can help offset any bad test scores.

Prof. Vaughn was an absolute sweetheart when I took her. She ACTUALLY teaches and takes the time to go over the topics and shows you how to do the problems if you go to class. She made class fun and worth going to! I wouldn't recommend anyone else over her!

Never really saw her outside of recorded lectures but she goes at a good pace and allows time for you to really get ahold of the topic. She also repeats herself a few times which I found helpful for understanding math

Took her last semester. Each chapter has a hw (unlimited attempts) and a quiz (5 attempts + timed. 2 exams and a final (every chapter on final but super easy if you actually work the homeworks). The lab really helped for understanding. Her lectures were long but she explains the problems very well and dumbed it down better than the Pearson website.

Although this class is a hard work and it is a tough class, Professor Vaughn is amazing and her lectures make so much sense. A pretty decent amount at work but I failed calculus in high school and I got an A in her class. Her teaching is amazing and long as you put all the work in you can succeed. Would easily take again.

I took Vaughn for Math 1431 and made an easy A, so i decided to take her again for Math1550. It is much different from 1431. Our grade is based solely on 4 tests. Not one homework or quiz grade. The only reason I have an A is because i took 1431. The woman is crazy, rude, and not very helpful. However, her class is not too bad.

I would recommend Ms. Vaughn for Math 1431. All of the homework and quizzes are on MyMathLab. You are required to attend one lab a week for an hour, but it's really not bad. The tests are a little hard, but if you do all the hw and quizzes you should do fine.

Dottie is a good professor. Her lectures are helpful, so definitely try to go to them. Don't miss any of the homeworks or quizzes and you will do fine in the class. I took screenshots of all of the homework problems and wrote notes on how to work them out (use the help me solve this button). Go back and study those for the test and you will do well

As long as you do your homework and actually pay attention, you'll pass. You're gonna have to work for an A. She gives practice exams to do before the real exam which is very helpful. if you do well on the practice you'll do well on the real exam.

I loved this course. Her lectures were helpful, but Pearson was my best friend(show me an example feature). There is HW for each lesson and quiz with multiple attempts. A few HW and Quiz grades are dropped, and your final can replace your worst test grade. I used the practice tests and got from a 90-100 on each test. Study and you'll do good.

Dr Vaughn was a nice teacher. No graded homework or quizzes to pad your grade. Test were similar to practice test so study them and youll get an A. Do the homework for practice as homework its not graded but essential to learning. Would take her again.

Dr. Vaughn was excellent! She gave great lectures that explained the course material very well. Stay ahead in your HW before you go to lectures. This will help you with questions that you have on the material before class. Dont be stupid and not study. Just put a little effort in, go to the lectures/labs, do your HW, and youll be fine.

Would definitely take this class again! Attendance was not mandatory but was helpful. I would definitely watch the prerecorded videos posted to Moodle on each topic. Try not to slack in this class, it's difficult to catch back up!

This is your average math class. The class uses MathXL so you will have weekly homework and quizzes. I went to class for the first month and stopped going after that because she had the lectures posted online. I find her online lectures easier to understand because she is very "to the point" and doesn't ramble. Overall an easy easy A.

This class is certainly not easy but doable if you put the work in. I never attended lectures, I just watched her videos online and got As on quizzes and exams. The class is time consuming, but an A is certainly achievable with a little effort.

Dr Vaughn was great in my opinion. She gets a bit side tracked at times. There was no homework in her class for grade, but she assigned plenty for us to practice. The test were just like the practice test, do them and you'll get an A. It was my first semester of college in over 12 years and I made an A+.

Great lecturer, offered online for those (like me) who couldn't retain information in the Cox Communication Center. Unsure if this will continue after COVID. Showing up to lab will make or break your grade, there is a good bit of homework that you need to make sure to stay on top of. Nothing unexpected for a Calc class.

The material is hard at first, but if you pay attention to her lectures she makes it super easy. Her practice exams save grades so definitely do them! I would take her class again for any math topic!

Attendance is not mandatory for this class as she posts the lectures on moodle. Sometimes the lectures are posted late or not at all. I recommend going to class because the lecture is better than the online one. Keeping up with Mylab is important as it is easy to get behind. Not hard, but not a breeze either.

She was a great professor. She posts all of her lectures in a video. You do have homework and quizzes but they have examples to show you how to do the problems. And, you have tons of resources to understand the material.

I never went to the actual class, and I only went to the required lab we have once a week. As long as you actually do the homework and quizzes, you should be fine. However, I know quite a lot of people who failed like all of the exams soo it really depends on the person.

If you have taken Math 1021/1022/1023 at LSU, this class is no different. The structure is pretty much the same with a large focus on mymathlab except you have different material and shorter lab times. Make sure to do the practice test 5+ times if you want to do well on the exams.

Dr Vaughn is an amazing teacher. I took business calculus with her asynchronous. My section required me to work mostly independently with a one hour a week lab time. Watch the lectures and follow her suggestions for extra resources through mymath lab and the content is doable. A lot of homework and quizes but it prepares you well for the tests.

THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE THAT HAS NEVER DONE CALCULUS BEFORE until this class. It was hard for me but I went to every class and every lab. I also went to CAS tutoring every week. Yes, it is hard and even harder if you never did calculus before this class, but you can do it! Do not be afraid to ask for help.

Great professor. Made understanding calc easier than Math 1021. Great lectures, even in Auditorium. I take paper notes and she actually cares about students. She plays movie clips during class as well. Attendance is not mandatory, but I still attend. Still in semester, but as long as you take notes, you will do good!

This class was pretty easy in my opinion, but I didn't really like her lectures. I felt that she was all over the place. The class is in the huge Cox Auditorium, so I know that can be a turn off. You also have to take labs in the library. My advice: do good on her practice exams. There are, for the most part, exactly like the test.

I'm someone who has never really been good at math, but Professor Vaughn made everything so easy to understand! She really breaks down the information in a way that makes sense. Attendance is not mandatory but going to class was SO helpful. This class can be tough if you fall behind, so just DO THE WORK, and don't be afraid to ask for help!

I failed my first exam and thought I had little hope of passing this class. I sat down with Dr.Vaughn and she helped inspire to work harder, and I truly believe without that talk I wouldn't have passed. This is a pretty rough class but Dr.Vaughn makes math fun, and makes it easy to stay engaged. Wish more teachers were like Dr.Vaughn!

Vaughn is a really good and caring professor. She makes the class interesting and explains the material simply. She would present movie clips and tie it into her lecture to make it more interesting. The only unfortunate area of this course is the amount of work involved. There are about 2-3 assignments a week that take up many hours of your day.

The hardest part of the course is the homework. If you put in the effort to ACTUALLY understand how to do each problem, then your test/quiz preparation will be easy. The bad reviews come from people who never go to her class, never do the homework themselves, never study, never ask for help. She provides so many reviews its literally hard to fail.

Dr. Vaughn is the BEST professor I have ever had. She understands that the material she teaches is hard so she tries to keep the class as lively as possible and goes over EVERYTHING. There's a lot of work in math lab probably about 2-3 assignments a week but it is literally impossible to fail also long as you SHOW UP TO THE LECTURES.

Just do the homework and you will be okay. Before exams, she has a review day and breaks down exactly what will be on the exams. She is sometimes a little hard to follow in the big lecture hall but nothing you cant get used to

Professor Vaughn's class can be tough, but attending lectures and doing the work pays off. The material is challenging, but she explains it clearly. Using resources like unstuckstudy along with the practice tests really helped me prepare and succeed in the course.

I mean calculus is what it is, but Vaughn made it as bearable as possible. She explains everything SO clearly, step by step, and in a decently organized way. Before tests, she uploads a 3-hr long video of her working out review problems - that's how much she wants us to succeed. Idk what I would've done without those videos.

biz calc isn't so bad. Dottie teaches the basics; your homework will be harder. She's nice though. Shows movie clips in class from time to time. I'd take her. Do the practice tests to your full ability, work hard, and you'll get an A.

Professor Vaughn is a great teacher; however, the material is difficult. Attend SI classes if you are struggling. Overall, not bad of class.

i was gonna fail the course but she gave up all a curve in the end and i ended up passing. she's not a bad teacher at all. just really grind on the exam reviews.

Lots of homework. Material is pretty difficult. Lectures are tough to follow but practice test save you. Take them and learn before test you should be alright.

Dr. Vaughn was a very nice old lady whose outfits slayed every lecture. Unfortunately, your grade can crash and die into hell pretty quickly if you fail a test bc there are only 3 in total (one which is the final.) But!! As long as you do the homework on my mathlab and take those practice tests multiple times, you should be ok 🩷

Dr. Vaughn did a great job teaching me business calc. Attending lectures was definitely beneficial but not required. She posts all her lectures on moodle. There was a decent bit of homework and quizzes, but nothing too over the top. Tests were very similar to other assignments. Would definitely recommend her for Math1431 or any other maths.

I loved Dottie! Her lectures were very engaging and would attempt to connect real life situations to the concepts! Some concepts were difficult to understand, but you could get it down with practice. Big exams are in the testing center, but minor ones are online. Lots of homework but it's math so I don't know what else you would expect.

Dr. Vaughn's class was great for me. She likes to tie in movies related to what we are learning. Material isn't super easy, but if you go to class and put the work in, you'll be just fine. Loved Dr. Vaughn and would absolutely take her again if I needed another math credit.
