He wants us to remember all the details in the book.I think no one can get an A.
Doug is a nice guy but not a great teacher. He pretty much reads the powerpoint to you. and when the smartest person in the class understands, he moves on. VERY tricky questions on test and when you ask him about it he says he will think about but no response
organized, however moves entirely too fast and doesn't teach the material at all. His exams are rediculous. You could study for 5 hrs a day, and when you take the exam feel like you havent studied at all. I dont know anyone who has passed with an A.
He is a nice person but not a good teacher. he doesn't explain well in class and his test is very very hard! If you get a B or C, you are lucky!!
nice professor, horrible teacher. didnt explain anything clearly. read from powerpoints but wasn't on tests or quizes. when asked for help he pretty much told you to bad so sad
He's a really good guy but gets to distracted. Half of class discussion wont cordinate with the class. He'll say "you really didnt need to know that until 2402 but...." So yeah. I like him as a person, not a teacher.
Nice guy, horrible teacher. His test are extremely hard, and he doesn't explain very well. Asking questions won't help much because he doesn't really answer them.
Class and prof are tough, but if you study and try you will do fine. Boliver is helpful, but you have to put effort into this class to get the material. You can't expect to cruise through this class. Focus and study and you will do great. He won't hold your hand...you have to work for your grade...and rightly so!
Doug is an excellent teacher. He covers all the matterial but this is a hard class. You MUST read all the notes yourself first then go to class and listen to the explanation. The material is extremely important for anyone interested in the medical field. If you do well in this class most of the rest are just tepeating this material!
seriously, his test is extremely hard. you should put all of your energy into this course only. he's a nice person but too hard.
Are a 4.0 GPA student or something like that ? If yes, then stay away from him, if you are not, still stay away from him.
It is awful. He is not a good teacher at all. IT WAS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVERYTAKE.
i think doug boliver is a great professor. his is one of my favorite classes, even though his tests are hard. i mean, if you are going into the medical profession, you NEED to know this stuff. y'all shouldn't be so hard on him. he's awesome. : )
HORRIBLE TEACHER!
Very Hard and tries to make his test as hard as he can it's hard to get an A in his class. Do not Take him If you want an A in your class.
His exams were very hard!
Constant frustration! He speeds thru some chapters in a day. Last THREE (6 chapters and a comprehensive final)! tests were less than 2 weeks apart. Bonus quizzes are the same difficulty of the exam. He teaches as if students were already nurses. You either MEMORIZE EVERY LITTLE DETAIL the book or you have an impossible time getting an A.
For the love of God, it's a tough course, not a tough teacher! You're not cut out to be in medicine if you have trouble here--try something else, like dental hygene.
For the love of God, it's a tough course, not a tough teacher! You're not cut out to be in medicine if you have trouble here--try something else, like dental hygene.
Compared to other instructors Doug and Donna White do make this course very difficult. Neither has a docotrate but they would like others to think it. Medical doctors who teach this course do not feel the way these two do. medical doctors believe that you should learn the basics before answering clinical questions. Take Dr. fanini
This was the ONLY class that I have ever made a C in, and I took six science courses. I wasn't trying to be a doctor. I was just trying to get into dental hygiene school. Thanks to that C, I didn't. I hear Fanini is great!!!
Everyone taking this class is not going into medicine for the person who suggested we should all go into Dental Hygiene. The material is not broken down in a way that the students can understand. We all understand this is not an easy course but it doesn't have to be made any more difficult than it has to be either.
I made a B in his class, but only do to my great lab instructor! This guy does not teach-he simply puts up powerpoint (provided by the publisher of the book) and reads from them. Tests are very difficult, I never made anything above a C on them and I usualy do very well on tests. Few did really well in my class, I have no idea how they did it!
Took him for lab - is an excellent lab instructor! He's not a pushover, but he's fair and knows his stuff. I'd highly recommend him for lab.
I have Prof. Boliver my lab professor and he's been incredible. (I've heard his lecture class is more difficult) I learned a ton and his lab practicals are not bad, you just really have to study. He gives you quizzes throughout the semester which really helps with studying. He makes learning anatomy fun and you can tell he loves what he does.
a real nice guy, but very academically demanding.
Mr. Boliver is not that bad...he is a fair teacher and he will teach you a lot. He gives a bonus quiz before every lecture test. Just make sure you read the chapters and study as much as you can its hard but you can get through it i promise...i made an A.
Very knowledgable.
I took him for A&P 1 and i got an A. he will help you to understand the material. he knows what he is talking about and wants you to learn it to. any A&P class you have to study to earn your grade and you have to study in his. but i think he is a very helpful teacher and does what he can to help kids pass. i am now in his A&P 2 combo class
VERY, VERY difficult test questions, level 3 or 4. Uses test questions from Fundamentals by Frederick. Get that book and study it. Like him as a person but would never recommend him. He really believes we should think like nurses but be have not been taught how to yet. If you take him plan to study 25 hrs/wk. Better yet, take someone else!
Professor doug is the hardest instructer I ever had he does not teach any thing just read from the power point. most of the students drop the class. his tests are very hard and hard to understant regardless how much you study. I do not recommend him to any body
If you don't fall into his "favorites" category, you will get left behind. Makes you feel stupid for not understanding something when he goes over it once. Many other students had the same complaint but, only voiced it during the break in class.Never to his face!
He has favertism towards students. he makes you feel stupid if you are not in his faverite group. his exam is very hard and some of the questions are not even from the book. he enjoy seeing students droping the course. very unhelpfull. Avoid him
Very hard professor! He doesn't cover the material that we are tested over enough and expects us to understand the material the way he does. Only helpful to the "teacher's pet" type. Don't take this guy unless you want to work very hard for a "C"!
You will learn a lot but if you need an A or B for nursing school don't take. Hardest B I've worked for. Tests over the little that you don't know. He doesn't focus on the whole picture little details and having to interpret what you think he means. Must know info backwards and forwards in short time. Wants to prove he's smarter by tricky ?s on tes
HARD.Don't take him if u need A/B. My class started with 15 people. Now (end semstr) it has 8.Only a handful r gonna pass with B. He explains (reads stuff of ppt) ONCE, and words the tests extremely difficult and different than what he "explained".
He was hard but good. I would recommend him if your wanting to learn.
Very hard!!! Expects you to know every tiny detail that you will never use in the real world.
terrible
Excellent teacher. Very smart and intelligent.. really thorugh with the materials but the exams are difficult. But if you study enough for the school, considering its an anatomy class and its very lenghty, i think u can get and A or B. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. i liked him alot but i gotta admit he is not easy.you'll learn thou
very hard but i learned a lot. he uses real life examples to illustrate the subject. he gives plenty of extra credit to help you pass.
I had Boliver and few years ago and everything he says always goes back to "If you are going into Nursing and you don't know the answer to this question then they will kick you out right there and that's it." After re-taking A&P w/ someone else, and now being IN nursing school, that is SOOO not the truth. He is so much harder than he needs to be.
much harder than he needs to be. makes it hard to understand the class. acts like you are suppose to know everything he knows about A&P before you get into the class. gets mad when you ask questions, although he encourages you to ask them. expects you to learn by reading your textbook to make his teaching minimal.
Ok, I took A & P in the summer and made it with an A but then took this professor thinking it would be ok and got a failing grade!! What does that tell U....way too hard. He is a science "know it all" and expects you to know the material right after he lectures. Super hard, don't take him if u want to pass!!!!!
Professor Boliver's class is EXTREMELY difficult! He reads straight from the notes in class and doesn't explain anything. He expects us to read it, hear it from him and magically understand the material. Tests are impossible. He plays favorites with students. He makes you feel stupid when you ask a question and then doesn't answer the question!
Professor Boliver does not teach. If you are into self-teaching, you'll be alright. If you actually need a teacher to you know, teach you, don't bother with Boliver. He missed his calling in life; he's a terrible teacher!!! I'm retaking it with another prof and am actually learning! I thought I was dumb, but now I know he just doesn't teach well!
Amazing Teacher regardless of what other student say. He expects you to read and come prepared to class which a lot of people fail to do. But if you study, ask questions, and learn the details you can get an A/B. If you want to slack off and not work hard take a different teacher.
His exams didnt cover any of his lectures. He did not allow enough time to do labs in the combined class that I took so when it came time to lab practical, we were screwed. He didn't answer questions and made you feel like an idiot even if you came to him after class to ask a question. Wouldn't recommend him.
I find Dr. Boliver to be a very helpful teacher, especially compared to my A&P 1 teacher who basically had us teach ourselves the material. He takes the time to explain everything and I feel like I'm learning a lot. His tests are really hard but if you pay attention they're not that bad. He's a really nice guy.
Great professor that knows his stuff. He will answer all of your questions. You have to work hard but if you pay attention and study a little you will do fine. Bonus quizzes are very nice. Tests are all multiple choice. Fun lecture. Don't take the combo.
If you are a self-teacher take this class. If you are a think outside the box do not take this instructor he is very straight forward not interesting. I was so lost in this class, he does not make the class fun at ALL. After taking this class I really almost decided to past up on the nursing degree. But luckly I found a instructor in Mckinney.
I enjoy his class greatly. I've taken him for a&p 1 and 2. He is a great teacher who knows his stuff. Yes, his tests are hard...if you don't put any effort into the class. You HAVE to study a reasonable amount. And he grades very easy! He gives so many curves which really helped me through this class! If you're not a hard worker, don't take him.
Boliver is one of the best I have ever had. He is the first one to give you material and then to test you over it all. It might be on a quiz, an exam or lab practical, but if he taught it, then you knew it would be assessed. He is extremely fair and explains things well. I would take another class from him. He is very personable.
First off I want to say that this is really a hard subject to study and you better be prepared to do just that. Prof. Boliver is great and really helpful. His tests are pretty hard you have to know EVERYTHING in detail in order to pass, dont be surprised if you have to read the chapters more than once good luck!!!
Read, read, read. Study, study, study. If you don't, you lose. If you do, you win. He's a great teacher but his tests will challenge your understanding of the subject. Just when you think you know all of it, you'll realize you don't. I would take him again if he taught a biology class I needed. At times, though, he can be confusing when explaining.
Took him for A&P 1 & 2. This class taught me how to be disciplined in studying. Tests were hard and discouraging but the curves made up for it. Overall one of the best professors I've had. Very helpful and knows the subject well! I made an A in both but it was the hardest A I've ever worked for! If you're going into the health care field take him!
Boliver makes a hard subject harder. He focuses on irrelavent parts of the subject and alot of histology. He is a really slow grader. Other professors(3) commented about how hard he makes the class. I would never recomend Boliver. He even stated he cant wait until he is done teaching, 7 more years. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE OR YOU WILL BE SORRY!
Very hard professor for no reason. Exam questions are so ambiguous & tricky. Expect to read the last very important 3-4 chapters by yourself because he takes his time at the start of the smstr and he does explain in depth. You get your graded exam back after you forgot about it, slow grader. I just don't see a reason to take this professor at all.
Prof Boliver really knows his stuff. A&P is a very complex course and lots of time studying is the only way you will master the material. I also suggest you get in a study group with like minded students. It takes a team to win here. I will be taking Boilver for 2402 and hope that his combo class will help with cohesion of info.
Professor Boliver is a fantastic teacher and mentor. He is very interested in making the next group of medical professionals competent and knowledgeable. I really appreciate his use of extra credit. Do the work and make the grade. I loved this class and really liked Prof Boliver!
Excellent person. Always helpful but his class is extremely hard. You have to work really hard to get good grades. NICE person but HARD professor.
WOW.... that's all I have to say about this guy. Hard? YES! If you want to become a doctor or anything of that level, then this is the guy for you. He gives you way to much information that you don't need. And the tests and hard and the bonus quizzes are even harder. Don't take him there are others out there to take.
His lecture was not too bad, he doubles your highest exam grade. No matter who you take for A&P II I highly advise to take it with no other classes. Now for lab, I. could. not. pass. a. single. practical. Maybe that is just me but I made A's & B's on lec exams. I took combo class and he NEVER went over the models like he should have ever!
This is not an easy class. I took him for A&P II during the summer. He is a great person and a brilliant professor. He gives many extra credit opportunities and drops some low grades. His tests are very hard. Put forth the effort to study and read nightly for this class and you will do fine.
Took the combo class, my only complaint is his lab, he doesn't go over the models so that everyone knows what we are suppose to learn on them. It is just you up chit creek without a paddle. Also he kinda looks like Dexter Morgan (the TV show) but older lol.
Love Boliver! amazing professor. I always struggles in science but he made the material very, very clear. Tons of extra credit which boosted my grade even more. really fun course with him. he cares about his students
Pr. Boliver is amazing. Always ready to help event after office hours or after late night class. Never got bored ... he is funny and best professor I had so far. He always helps you to understand the subject. Love him!!! I wish I could take his class again.
Professor Boliver is great at explaining a concept and making sure you understand but BEWARE, nothing he lectures over is on the tests. 50 multiple choice exams and 50 question practicals. He DOES NOT lecture over anything he will ask you on his tests. Try to avoid this professor. I made a 103 in A&P I'm and currently failing his A&P II.
He is great!!! Would take his class again ... the best professor in Collin. Because of him I got accepted in Nursing Program. Hard lectures but nothing is easy at this point ... he prepares you for Medical field where you have to know the stuff !!! Hard class, not the professor !!!
Whether Professor Boliver is for you or not depends on what you expect from this class. If you just want to breeze through the material, grab a grade and go, then he is not for you, look for a professor that allows you - and live with the regret later. Yes, his tests are hard, yes he expects a lot, but, you bet that you come out better prepared.
There's no way to get around it - A&P is hard. But Boliver is a great teacher. He's very clear and does give a nice amount of extra credit. If you memorize his powerpoints, you have the information you need for the tests. It's definitely possible to get an A in his class, but you have to be willing to put a lot of time into it.
Difficult class bc of the amount of material covered, but professor is knowledgeable & offers fair amount of bonus points. Have to know info well for tests, a lot of application questions. Not an easy A, but he works with you to make sure you retain info and get grade you deserve. Easy to approach for help or explanation, goes really fast though
I'm currently taking his combo lab/lecture class. Majority of his daytime/night classes failed lab/lec 1st exams. His tests are very hard. He makes it much harder than it has to be to weed people out. Most of the class are discouraged because the majority of whats covered in class didn't show up on exams. You have to make it 2402 your life!!!
Currently taking his combo class. This was the worst mistake i ever did. This teacher his exams are extra hard even the take home tests and the Lab reports. He writes his own exams and does not teach any of that in class. I honestly have no clue how someone is supposed to study. His power-point are useless. Everyone complains about him in class.
Taking his combo lecture/lab now. I had a 4.0 & now have a 3.6 He is super unclear & difficult. I study more than you can imagine, & somehow still can't even pass. I had a straight A in A&P1. Take my warning!! Do NOT take this professor if you WANT someone who will CARE about YOUR success. He is forgetful, confusing, & unresponsive when needed.
I'm also currently in his combo class. Professor Boliver will answer any question you have BUT his test are extremely hard! I've put in countless hours into studying and have nothing to show for it. He doesn't review anything, before a test he'll start new material. I do not recommend this professor.
In his duel class right now. worst mistake of my life. if you want a teacher that CARES about your grade, do not take him. not helpful, not easy, not willing to listen. over 3/4th of the class is failing and he has yet to care! his tests are too hard and there is not enough extra credit for how hard and how many students are struggling. AVOID HIM.
Great for lecture. I learned more from him than I did from my lab instructor. Gives extra credit! If you are in class and you pay attention, study, and do the homework there is no reason to get less than a B. His students love him. I have never heard anyone complain. A&P is hard, no matter who you take, but Boliver is willing to answer Q's.
He is a good person but may not be a good professor for everyone. Take him if you can study by yourself, take him if you can go over lab models with Youtube videos, take him if you can navigate yourself through 80 pages powerpoints. The Internet will be your best friend while taking his class. Ap2 is tough and he makes it tougher.
I thought i was going to fail this class. Super hard tester!!! Try to take someone else.
I personally did not enjoy his class. He was not very engaging. Read straight from 70-100pg PowerPoints. You're better off studying at home. None of his classes did well this semester. Professor does not grade in a timely manner. None of my grades were posted on Canvas. Did not receive all work back. Tests were extremely hard. Take someone else.
i tried very hard to keep up, but his teaching techniques are unrealistic, and he believes you should know everything about anything. Both lecture and lab exams are nothing like what you prep for. I had a study group, and changed my study techs, but no one including myself was adequate according to his standards. class average-60% enough said.
Not helpful. I could have just been handed the book with its accompanying online material (which is NOT the professors material) and told what chapters and when the exams would be. I would have the same result. If you are good at self-teaching, then no big deal to take his class. If you cant self-teach, then do NOT take his class!
I would recommend people to avoid taking his class. He does not post grades and he teaches straight out of the powerpoint. Not only that but he tends to skip through so many slides. He does not review with his students and just expects you to know everything. This school just needs to get better SCIENCE professors!!
Great professor! I learned so much from him this semester. He does have long power points, but makes sure to emphasize the important components. A&P is not an easy course, but it is doable. He provides lots of extra credit and opportunity to succeed!
Look, this subject is just a tough subject in general. Professor Boliver gives SO many extra credit opportunities and he wants you to succeed. Yes he does expect you to know a lot but it makes sense if youre going into a healthcare field, youre gonna have to know it anyway!
I have already graduated from a university with a BS and enrolled in Collin to take this one class. This is the first class I've ever dropped.. For everyone who says he gives a lot of extra credit, it's because he has to since the ONLY lecture grades are tests with are class average miserably failing. And the extra credit is extremely hard anyway.
A&P I & II are hard courses. People saying that Professor Boliver is hard are not taking into account how hard the material is. Yes, it is hard to get an A in the class, but it is very doable if you study. Professor Boliver takes the time to explain everything and encourages questions. Offers more extra credit than any other science professor
I failed A&P 2 in the spring so I retook it summer 1 with professor Boliver and he made everything make so much sense! I loved the class and of course it was very stressful and still very hard but for me it meant so much to actually know this stuff. He gives out extra credit and is very nice and helpful when you ask.
He is very misunderstood just because the content is difficult and not his teaching. He tries to connect every information and gives only the necessary information (which is a lot for A & P). He grades easy. He is a gem of a person and very supportive. Just work a little hard on the notes you take and you will be fine.
I think Boliver cares and doesn't necessarily want students to fail, but I also don't think he tries that much to make it easier on us. I studied harder than I ever have for a test in my life and I could barely pass with a C, and the test after that I made a D. The tests have a lot of trick questions and gotcha answers. Wouldn't recommend him tbh.
This class requires DAILY studying/repetition of topics. Boliver's lectures were amazing -you could tell that he seriously knows what he's talking about. He will ask the class certain questions throughout the lecture- WRITE THOSE DOWN- you will be tested on them. The level of difficulty prepared me for my upper division nursing courses. Thank you!
One of the most impatient teachers I have ever had. He is rude over e-mail or doesn't even respond when you ask for help. His tests are not over anything he says over lecture and he bases questions off of the textbook even though he never teaches from it. Tricks you by not being clear and does not teach anything during his lav class.
I took Boliver for two different semesters, one for lecture and lab. Lecture was fine but lab is SO hard. Do NOT take him. His practicals are so extremely difficult and so many of the questions feel like you never even learned them. Very specific grader, so if its not exactly what he wants its wrong. If you can choose, pick any other professor.
He doesnt teach and when he does he doesnt go into detail. Hes a "read the powerpoint" type of teacher. The class turned into an online class due to the pandemic and nothing changed. He didnt teach he didnt put up reviews or models he just threw the quizzes and exams at us and expected us to pass. Seems like a decent guy but a TERRIBLE teacher.
Their were alot of gray areas in his test. You study hard but the test does reflect the material. I went to him personally discuss why I am struggling and how can I better prepare with no clarity. I pretty much failed every test but I didn't drop. He passed me with a C
