he is a great teacher and his notes are the exact test...he is very nice and his projects are pretty easy. Study for the tests and you will do great!
Totally great! I really enjoyed this class, wish I could take it again. Highly recommend taking any class with Mr. Diekow
Mr. Diekow's class is very easy but he is a stickler when he doesn't like you... make sure to stay on his good side!
AWESOME TEACHER, so funny. This is my early class, and I still like waking up everyday for it. I wish I could take it again. Marriage and Family is so much fun.

Great Teacher, but he needs to learn to grade papers.
Great teacher. Don't skip class. Tests come from lecture notes. Do the projects!
Very good teacher. The class was interesting and he was realistic about the material. Definetely not an easy A class but worth taking.
This was a great class. Go to class and you will be fine on the tests. He makes the lectures fun and interesting. Would definitly reccomend for Marriage and Family.
I've had him for 2 semesters. Great teacher. He's funny and very clear. Gives study guides before each test. His classes are fun and interesting.
great teacher...learn alot of good stuff
A wonderful professor, such a nice guy, always helpful! Marr and Fam. was a great class! I enjoyed it!
cool guy, so funny, down to earth. he wants to think he is hot so i put a chili for him ;) I got a B/C+ confusing tests. try flash cards i hear they work? great class. beats art
Awesome teacher, great guy, makes class fun and intresting. You look forward to the funny class discussions that take place, need to study, and make sure you have a proper article!
Excellent teacher! Best class I ever took. Assignments were informative, yet fun. Discussions were interesting and fun, often turned to friendly debates. Instructor really made you think about the topic at hand and sometimes challenged your theory.
First teacher I had at Santa Fe and I really loved the class. Great teacher.
Great teacher! material covered in class for exams. potentially will end up with an A, never read book.
One of the best teachers at SFCC. This was a fun class with a fun teacher, that's the way it should be. Tests are hard but fair, but the writing is easy and makes up for the tests.
Great teacher. Easy tests straight from notes. Very interesting and fun class. I recommend this teacher to everyone.
This is a GREAT teacher. His class is so much fun and it helps you remember the material better. His exams just cover what he's talked about in class---I highly recommend taking any of his classes! :)
Marriage and Families: This teacher is great! TAKE HIS CLASS U WILL NOT REGRET IT! RUle of thumb for his exams: STUDY AND TAKE ALL NOTES!! ALl test from notes and lotz from the readings on the chapters. THis guy is funny as hell and down to earth. NO late papers accepted. but they are easy.
Hybrid course SPR 2004 was excellent, both the live and online sessions. Highly recommend this professor.
okay teacher, easy class. show up, take notes, and you have the test in the bag. His papers are annoying and he grades them very odd. Other than that It is easy. But he is long winded
My favorite class ever! His enthusiasm makes the class more interesting and his tests are pretty easy. Take notes and look over them once and you are good to go!
Horrible teacher. Isn't clear in what he wants. This class could have been worthwhile. I really regret taking him, don't make the same mistake!
This teacher is highly unreasonable, a friend had an 89.6% and he gave them a B+, what crap. Not helpful when you ask him for help and basically just an A**, Class was interesting but he is not a very caring teacher.
A+++++ teacher! Makes lectures interesting and has a great personality. Easy writing asignments and tests are EXACTLY what he goes over in class and what he GIES YOU ON YOU STUDY GUIDE. great teacher. I strongly recommend him!!!
Great teacher. His tests can be a bit tricky, but it is deffinately possible to get an A on them. His sense of humor makes this class fun. This teacher lets you know what he excpects from you on the frist day and does not sway.
How hard can Marriage & Fam Be? I asked myself but I couldn't put together what was wrong with that guy. I studied my behind off the tests were horrible, I was one point from passing he still failed me, go figure.
I really disliked this class. He was constantly spewing his extrememly liberal views about EVERYTHING!! If you are male, I wouldn't take this class. (I am a woman and I wouldn't have taken this class if I had known what a male basher he is!) If you disagree and make it known he will literally, yell at you accross the room. Pretty intense.
I enjoyed this class, however in order to pass the class you have to attend class and take notes. The projects he gives out were easy. Fun professor and likes for class to be very involved in discussions. Tests are hard if you don't pay close attention to the notes or if you missed a day of notes.
He's a pretty cool guy. You would think Marriage and Family would be an easy class and an automatic A, but it's not. You HAVE to read the book along with studying your notes. I got a C on the first test and quickly learned that reading the book was key to getting an A. He's tough, but overall it's a fun class. I recommend him.
He is a good professor, but I think that he is sometimes alittle too opinionated. But he is a socailist, so we have to remember that. With his online class, just post each week, write your response papers (5), and know everything on the study guide and you will pass. Just be ware that he can be very critical.
I had taken Mr. D for syg2430 marriage and family. The course was during the summer but Mr. D did not rush assignments or try and cram work into you. He had a syllabus that had all the readings dated and he kept to his word. He was helpful to answer questions and graded fairly. However, his tests are hard. You must read the textbook and highlight.
I thought he was a good professor but his tests were very hard. In class, all you do is take notes and it can get very boring. I made a C and was very dissapointed because all my friends that have taken this class with another professor said it was an easy A. i wouldn't take him again.
Wonderful class! I always looked forward to the class discussions. This was an honors class so there was a lot of writing required, but we had great topics. Doug challenged us to think outside of our comfort zone. Oh yeah, and Doug in boycotting the bookstore, so there are no texts for any of his classes this semester!
He's an awesome teacher who makes going to class fun...I definately recommend this teacher for maryg&fam...this was the first year he decided not to use the textbook so attendance is pretty much mandatory...the test are pretty easy and the final isnt accumalitive
Diekow was an amazing professor! He didn't use a text and went strictly on notes in the class. It was way easier. He made class fun to come to. It was what got me up in the mornings!!!! Just come to class and keep your notes and take GOOD notes and you'll be fine!!!
Please, please if you are planning to sing up for a humanity class specifically SYG2430 Marriage and Families and the professor is Doug Diekow please, reconsider the class or the professor, I am not finish with the class yet but I just want to give you heads up, (NEXT REV. IS MINE TOO, KEEP READING.
Doug is an AWSOME teacher! He is funny and knows what he is talking about. His marriage and family class is one of my favorite classes. The class is fairly easy. There is no textbook so take notes in class and pay attention. The tests aren't too hard and there are 8 short papers he gives but you only have to do 5. An interesting and fun class!
Diekow is a pretty good teacher and covers the material well, but the test questions are tricky. This class is not the easy A you are looking for.
Great class. Yes you have to go to class and read and write. Only lazy people think that makes it hard. That makes it college. He's not opinionated, he presents facts and data. That?s science. Unlike Cable News, he doesn?t make things up to fit his ideas. Socialist? You don?t know what the word means and don?t understand what research is.
Doug's class was definitely interesting. Without a textbook, attendance is necessary. Like some others have said, he is opinionated butits not hard to get an A. He puts notes online but honestly the notes I took in class helped much more. I thought his class was fun and interesting!
Awesome
Great teacher!!! Highly recommend for sociology.
Diekow is the man. This was my very first class my first semester of college and it could not have started off any better. Doesn't use the book, so take notes! Tests are straight forward as long as you study. 5 response papers are required out 9 over the course of the semester so you can pick whichever you want.
I LOVED this class! He was an awesome professor who made the class fun and interesting. Class consisted of 4 exams, 4 response papers (out of 8 offered), attendance mandatory but you're grade isn't hurt for missing. He uses no textbook so notes are a MUST. I enjoyed his teaching and will say with no hesitation, best Prof. I've ever had and at SF!
very fun class and always looking forward to attending
He is a great teacher. Makes it very clear on what he wants, but leaves you room to interpret as you wish. We have 8 2-page papers to write (Only have to do 5) and 4 exams. Doesn't use a textbook so attendance is mandatory, but almost always get out early. He's very helpful if you ask and he tries to make the class interesting. Recommended.
His class is so fun and interesting. He keeps you engaged in the material.
One of my favorite professors at Santa Fe! His class isn't an easy "A," you have to put in the work but he presents the information well and makes it interesting. Take good notes (he doesn't use the textbook), study and do 5 of the 8 essays and you'll do very well. Also, he’s pretty funny which makes class enjoyable.
DONT TAKE HIM! I wouldn't take this teacher ever again! He is not clear and grades very hard and I am an A student. He has no back up reasoning for deducting points from essays, and discussions. Even when I ask him he doesn't tell me. If your taking him online I repeat DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He is by far the best and most understanding teacher at Santa Fe. He often will make assignments easier if enough people raise the concern and he is also willing to extend dead lines! He is awesome and super nice do not hesitate to take him! he will make you love sociology!
Doug is great! He is one of my favorite professors. There's no textbook, so no readings. Just go to class, take notes, and participate and you'll get an A. People that give him a bad review are people who slacked off and didn't do the work. Easy class!
I really enjoyed this class. Great professor!
I love Doug! He is super funny and relates everything very well to real life. Take in class not online, you will miss out on so much fun and entertainment!
I LOVE Diekow! Took him for sociology group study class for my trip to Sweden hosted by him back in May. Best time of my life! He knows his stuff & made learning the material fun. Textbook not needed. Doesn't take much to do well. Do the research required for your presentation & you will be fine. Also take the the trip to Sweden if you can!!!
Pretty easy class, participation is a must.
Took a summer b class. He was absoutely terrible. You have 24 hours to hand in a discussion and if you hand it in 24 hours of the due date you don't get full credit. You definitely need to spend a lot of time on this class. Discussions were interesting but did not enjoy him as professor. Got a 69.5 wouldn't pass me with a 70, don't take him.
I typically hate going to school but this professor made me want to show up every day even though it was an 8am class. He doesn't use a book so you save money and he doesn't read off a PowerPoint so it's not boring. His lectures are full of energy and he's funny and incredibly informative. He also teaches marriage and family. Amazing teacher.
He only gives 4 exams his semester and the 4th one isn't cumulative. You have to be really good at taking notes to pass the exams because you don't use a book. Hes hilarious and his class is easy and self explanatory. I would take his class again!
I took Mr. DIEKOW for Spring 2015 for marriage and Family and he made coming to class easy, he is actually really funny. He does not require a book but you have to take crazy amount of notes. His exams are all online BUT you have 37 minutes to answer 50-55 questions. You will have one assignment a week but it's a paper of a topic he gives you.
He is hilarious! The work and tests are not super easy but he makes coming to class very enjoyable. You really can't skip too much because it's important you get the notes from his lecture. But if you take notes you'll do fine on the tests and the papers aren't too bad, he gives you options on what to write. An A is achievable if you do the work.
He seemed really enthusiastic. I took him for marriage and family online and there were 8 essays you had to do 5. There were four tests and a discussion was due every week. The test weren't that hard because he gives study guides. I would take him again.
He is a great teacher and his lectures are very interesting. There is one homework assignment about every week and the tests are online. Definitely would take this class again!
Favorite professor. Extremely personable and makes class enjoyable. You won't want to skip this class. Tests are easy especially if you listened and the assignments are simple essays that are on fairly interesting topics. Definitely recommend taking him
This class was the best online class I have taken online so far. 4 tests, 5 projects(papers), & 20 discussions. Interesting class & very helpful if you need it. I'd take him again for sure.
LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT DOUG. He is by far the best and funniest teacher I have had at Santa Fe. His lectures are killer, you NEED to take notes, otherwise you'll fail his tests. His essays are pretty straight forward too. Just pay attention, don't miss more than 3 classes and you're golden! I wish he taught other subjects! He is a great teacher! :)
I wouldn't recommend him for online classes. His syllabus was confusing and I was lost the first week or two. Asked him for help and he still wasn't clear. Mostly an easy class but if you can take someone else I would.
Diekow, is a great teacher! He is funny. You cannot skip a class though or you will miss notes. The notes are easy but they a helpful! You do a lot of essays but they are interesting and easy to do. His test are hard. The wording is what gets you! Great teacher would love to take him again. Easy A if you actually show up and work.
Doug is loud, hilarious, and really knows his stuff. He encourages the students to talk, ask questions and make comments. He never makes you feel stupid for getting an answer wrong. He gives you 8 chances to do 5 papers, so you don't even have to do 3 of them; but if you do them all, you get to keep your 5 highest scores. Attendance is important.
There is no textbook for this class, everything that is on the 4 (online) exams is talked about in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but his class is so enjoyable that you won't want to skip. Besides the exams there are 8 two page papers assigned, though you only have to complete 5 of them. Doug is the best professor I've ever had, would recommend.
Super cool dude! No textbook required because it's based off of his notes in class. You take the exams at home (they are timed), but they're easy. You'll only fail this class if you don't show up, text or talk in class, and not engage. At that point, it's your fault, not his.
Professor Diekow is one of the best professors I've had. He is hilarious and makes the class fun and interesting. There are 4 tests and 8 writing assignments the entire semester but you only have to do 5 of the writing assignments. If you do all 8 he will take your highest 5. Attendance isn't mandatory but gives extra credit for not missing.
I am at the end of my 2nd class with Prof. Diekow. I took him last semester for Princ. of Socio. & fell in love with the subject. He was a great teacher & kept his lectures interesting. He broke the material down so well it OFTEN (not always) seemed like common sense. Took him again this sem. for Marr. & the Family. Didn't disappoint.
I absolutely love Doug! He is the best professor I have ever had. He will make you want to take every class he teaches. He is very helpful & friendly. No book is needed. If you don't understand anything, just ask ! Everything you need for the papers he assigns are in the lectures. If you take good notes, getting an A will be very easy.
Doug is a great online teacher. He was responsive, led great discussions, and gave good feedback. The class was very well laid out and expectations were clear. Do the work, read the material, and you will pass the tests. I wouldn't call it an easy A because you must study, but he spells out how to be successful in the syllabus. I really enjoyed it.
Such a great teacher, I wish I needed more classes with him! I had him for marriage and family. He's fun and easy to get along with and it was an easy A as long as you do your work.
I took this class online summer a and it was great. Professor Diekow is passionate about the topics discussed and is straightforward on what he expects. Overall, 4 tests and like 15 discussions. You have to comment on other peoples post. He assigns 8 papers but only have to do 5. Easy A. Take him if you can
I took this as an Honors class and it was great. Diekow is really energetic and focused on making his lessons relate to everyday life. The is no homework, just essays and projects (both group and individual) but he is an easy grader so no stress. He is timely in replying to emails and encourages class participation.
Good professor, exams are only 37 min. for 50 questions so studying is key otherwise you run out of time searching for the answers. Good discussion boards and enjoyable class very informative. Textbook is needed. Even though it was an online class the professor stayed in contact making sure everyone was on track and doing OK. I would recommend.
by far the best professor I've ever had! I'm sad that I won't have him next semester. His honors class is easy. He ensures his lectures are entertaining and his projects are relevant. The individual projects and the exams were time consuming, but not difficult.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER. I had him as an honors professor. His lectures are always entertaining and even though my class was a 9:30 AM class I would be excited to go. There's no written exams, just your essays. It was no problem for me, I love writing. Attendance isn't mandatory, just extra credit. It's not hard just essays are time consuming.
You have to do 5 out of the 8 projects. 4 exams 50 questions 37 minutes so its hard unless you had nothing else going on and you could study extensively. Weekly Discussions. Not a lot of work load but hard to get a A unless you study for those exams. No final. Textbook is used. Would recommend if exam could be a bit longer. I ran out of time on 1.
I took this class online and it was a pretty easy class. Professor Diekow runs things in a laid-back manner, so it was not stressful. Grades consist of discussion posts, papers, and exams. The discussion topics were actually pretty interesting and only 5 papers with a 2 page requirement were assigned. Definitely need the book to study for exams.
I enjoyed his honors class. The only complaint is that his exams weren't very clear on what he wanted, so for my first exam I got a poor grade. You basically have to write 4 short essays for each exam in order to get an A, and attendance isn't mandatory but you want to show up so you know what to write for the exams.
One of the best prof at Santa Fe!!! Take as many and any class with him.
Professor Diekow is an amazing professor who made class so much fun! It was easy learning the material because the class itself is really interesting, but he made it even better! The class is definitely worth your time.
I took Professor Diekow for SYG2430, and I cannot express enough how amazing his lectures truly are. He gives you more than enough of information that is easy to remember with his amazing metaphors and way of putting things. Be ready for note taking, cause there will be allot, and to laugh.
Little interaction online but his discussion posts are not bad. Papers and tests are decent. Overall he's not a bad choice..
Awesome teacher! Very loud and clear. Loved his lectures.
He gives you 8 essays but he takes off the three lowest essays. His class is not hard, Show up to his class, and take notes because his lectures decide if you pass the class. His class is not revolved around textbooks (he doesn't use them btw) but based off of what he says. His class is easy and I'd recommend him to anyone!
Doug's class is pretty fun, he has a good sense of humor and makes the class interesting. You need to take good notes though, and a lot of them, if you want to leave this class with a good grade, that was my mistake. The whole class is basically a lecture and you write down most of what he says. Attendance not absolutely mandatory.
Lots of writing, multiple discussion posts in a week. Tests are super hard and are given in a short time period so good luck! Took this as a 6 week class, went fast but it is possible to get an A.
Prof Diekow is an AMAZING teacher. He's 10/10 my favorite professor i've ever taken and would recommend him to anyone! He makes lectures fun and super interesting! Definitely would take his class again
Prof. Diekow is hilarious. He will have you dying of laughter for most of the lecture and relates his own personal life to a lot of the material he teaches. Would definitely recommend this class to others and I would definitely take it again. There are only 4 quizzes, and 5 mini projects required which are so easy as long as you take notes.
Doug Diekow is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. I took him first for marriage and family and that was my favorite class ever. I just took him for sociology which was also a lot of fun. He's the only professor I'd be willing to go to an 8 am for. If you go to class and take decent notes, you'll definitely get an A.
doug is my favorite professor as Santa Fe!!! i Had him for marriage and family. You have 8 papers but you only have to do 5 very easy to write. I still see him around campus and he still remembers me you can really tell he cares for his students
Professor diekow is literally the best. his class is so fun and he is an easy grader. as long as you show up and participate, you'll pretty much pass.
Professor Diekow gives incredible, informative lectures. He applies each concept to real life examples to help you better understand the material.
He does NOT round your grade and bases everything on points instead of the Canvas percentages even though they equal out to the same. I was one point away from a higher letter grade, the percentage even equaled out to a 79.79 and he still gave me a C. He is not friendly and emails the rudest responses. I wouldnt recommend him to anyone.
The teacher was more concerned with teaching students his viewpoints of gender and gender identity that teaching his students about the topic. He never once taught from the textbook.
Only lectures, no book, will not use overhead or board (saysno). He has Skype classes with unprepared Swedish students and 4 exams are online, timed for 37mins. Teacher sends rude email responses. He lacks teaching/learning premise used in Sweden. Tricks/non-caring. Worst teacher.
Doug is an amazing professor. Incredibly engaging in lectures and is really just a cool guy. People say he's rude but he isn't, he simply expects you to do your part as a student!! He uses real world examples in his lectures and makes the material simple to understand... ALSO no book!
He forces his viewpoints and if you have an opinion that doens't fit his views he'll miss treat you. He puts a very short timer on his exams. I have ran out of time in my exams many times.
I took Marriage and Family online with the Sweden study abroad trip over Summer A so I was able to meet Prof. Doug and he is really great, I just didn't do well in the class because I am terrible with online classes.
I took this class online. There is 8 essays you have to do all together, but only 5 of them count. Every Wednesday you have a discussion due and it usually isnt that hard at all. The class was easy and he is not a hard grader. However the test are super hard, you have 37 minutes to answer 50 questions and they are not easy questions.
Doug is an amazing teacher. His class is one of the easiest I've taken. Ive taken him for two diff classes and was beyond happy with both. You have 8 project opportunities but only have to do 5. All the material needed for exams is given in fun lectures. Overall I loved his class and recommend to anyone who needs some easy credit hours.
He allows you to miss three classes without being penalized. He's super funny and makes the class interesting. You need to show up for lectures.
Rude in emails. Professor Diekow has to be one of the most apathetic instructors and I have ever had. I took Marriage and Family class as an extra elective online. He is extremely strict on posting ever-substantive discussions posts and demands that it be responded to before the last 24 hrs. Also, he does not believe in rounding borderline grades.
Attendance not mandatory, but you get 10 extra points towards your final grade if you show up everyday. Also lectures are not online and not out of a book so its super valuable to hear his lectures. Class grades by 4 exams, and 5 papers. You get 8 chances to write the 5 papers, which is great, because you can miss three without affecting your grade
Diekow is a pretty awesome prof. You don't need a book and not too much hw. For hw, he gives you 8 2 page essays, but you only have to do 5. Tests are somewhat challenging, 50 questions in 37 min, but I thought they weren't too bad. You can get 10 bonus points to your final grade if you don't miss more than 3 days of class. Lectures are funny.
Read the material. There are 8 writing assignments. You only have to do 5. There are 4 tests consisting of 50 questions, 37 minutes. No final.
you have to turn in assignments in 24 hours before its due, just putting in your opinion will get you an A. I was stupid and miss the last test and he put in the time for me to come into his office and take it, he cares about the students.
Best professor out there. Really funny lectures so you will not be bored in class. Gives extra credit if you attend classes. Have to do 5/8 papers. 4 tests but they are fairly easy if you pay attention to class. All tests are off-campus. No final exam. Great guy overall, and if you needed help he would be right there for you.
Doug Diekow was my favorite professor. I took him for marriage and family which turned out to be the best course Ive ever taken. He is hilarious which makes the long lectures interesting. Attendance is the most important thing for this class. If youre a student who misses class a lot this isnt the prof. for you. Take notes and youll be good!
Must show up to class as he doesn't believe in using a text book. Notes are taken in class during lecture. Lectures are easy to understand and he makes them very funny. Drop policy and only 4 exams which are taken outside of class. Overall a hilarious and wonderful professor.
I took this class online. Very clear assignments and grading. Very good communication. Provides accurate study guide for each test. Provides you with everything necessary to pass the class. Yes, you have to do the work, but as I said, he provides very clear assignments.
no textbook you have to create your notes. but it fine cause he keep it simple and memorable. also entertaining so it wont be boring. You'll learn great things from this class.
Attendance is extra credit. He has 8 essays, but only 5 are required. He's extremely easy on grading the essays. He has 4 exams and all the answers are online. The lectures are very interesting and he puts humor into them.
Great professor. Class was informative, hilarious, and easy to follow. Take good notes, complete 5 of the 8 two page essays and you're golden. Easy A for sure and you'll have fun getting it. Highly recommend.
No textbook so show up for lecture! Only have to do 5 out of 8 projects/essays. Easy grader just watch your grammar. Also tests are through canvas--50 questions and only 37 to take them which is a little difficult. I finished them with like less than a minute left. A few of my classmates were not able to finish the test.
Cool dude and good teacher. Take very detailed notes. There is no book. Ask questions. While attendance isnt required its important. You wont know what the essay topics are until they open, choose wisely. His tests can be challenging because of the time limit. His tests reflect your understanding of the notes not a lot of regurgitation.
Honestly, I still can't figure out what this guys problem is. Its a MAR/FAM class, not organic chemistry. If he does not agreeing with your opinion on an opinion based discussion, you will get a bad grade. I have literally tested it by reading his comments under others posts to see what he agrees with. If I conform, its a 100%.. if not, hello C-
Just do yourself a favor and don't take the professor. I would get 60% on opinion-based discussions because my opinion didn't match his. It was sad. The workload is easy though. You won't reach him hardly out of class and his feedback doesn't help at all. Way too tough of a grader for an elective.
Better be ready to study about Sweden, cause most if the work is about that
Show up to lecture, turn on your camera, and participate. he opens your eyes and its a great class. sign up for him. hes kind and caring. very strict to his syllabus but completely understandable as he is thorough and detailed with what is required/expected
Late work not accepted and due at unusual hours and shows his stance heavily
He seems like a decent guy. READ his syllabus, his expectations are clear. Lots of discussion posts but if you READ his expectations they are pretty easy and interesting. He is a bit tough on projects & his tests are extremely difficult. He provides an outline for a study guide but the subjects are broad. Tests are given a short time allotment
DON'T TAKE HIM. my work was thorough enough to receive a 5/5, but I got 3 out of 5 on discussions because he had a silly rule about not turning your work in two days before the due date... also I had a 79 and ALMOST HAD A B but did not care about my concern and I even asked if there was anything I could do to help my grade but he didn't care!!
I took this class because I thought it would be interesting but the teacher kinda ruined me on it. Professor Diekow is what you would describe as a black and white teacher His test was really frustrating because they would be a little confusing and not very clear with examples in my opinion. If you take this class find a different teacher.
Doug needs to have his name changed because every other Doug Ive met besides him, has been a nice person. Horrible teacher and needs to find a different profession.
Really fun and interesting course. I like that the discussions assigned were more casual and thought provoking. All you have to do to get an A on papers is make sure it's exactly 2 pages long, no major spelling or grammar errors, and shows your thought process on the prompt. Test questions were straight from the book.
I took him for marriage and family during the summer, and I felt like it was an easy A. He gives detailed study guides for all 4 tests, so all I did was go through and take notes on what was on the study guide. I will say that its very important to score well on the tests though. My least favorite part of the class was writing the two page papers
This class is easy. His grading is clearly laid out in the syllabus so make sure you pay attention. His papers are easy. I didn't get the book. You really don't need it so save your money.
Biggest thing tests worth 66% of grade and only have 4. 8 papers due but only 5 count but grammar czar. Got b because computer froze during last test not happy after working so hard had 89.5 heading into last test. To much work for an elective...
Not a good elective class at all he gives more homework than any of my core classes. He is very political and if he does not agree with you it is automatically a bad grade. His discussions are due 24 hours before the due date. All assignments are due at 8 am instead of 11:59 pm. It makes it confusing to keep track and there are no make-ups.
I'm honestly confused by the negative reviews for him. He's a great professor, very kind, very easy grader, and it's clear when assignments are due. Tests and hw are easy, you just have to do them. He's awesome and keeps class energetic. Just pay attention and participate every now and then and he'll like you. Absolutely would take his class again!
Professor Diekow always managed to create a lighthearted environment for discussion. Most of the class enjoyed his lecturing and it was easy to participate in his class.
Easily the most fun professor I've had at Santa Fe. Every lecture was engaging, and he made it clear what he talked about that needed to be specifically written down for not taking. Absolutely recommend him to anyone that wants to have a super fun experience with Marriage and Family.
I took Professor Diekow over the spring semester. His class consisted of discussion posts, exams, and mini-essays. You only have to do 5/8 essays, and they are 2 pages. Exams come straight out of the textbook, so make sure to read. The content was very interesting and I definitely recommend this professor!
Prof.Diekow is a good professor, but there are a few things that don't make sense with his grading criteria. It is not based on percentages, it is based on points; therefore, he will not round up your final grade. If you make a bad grade on one test it can also be hard to recover. I barely made it out with an A.
Super easy class. Textbook "required" but I never used it. In the six week class, there were 8 essays, 5 required bc he drops the 3 lowest of the 8. Lots of discussions, reply to them 24hrs before the due date and reply to 2-3 other responses for full credit. Tests are super easy, only 4 of them, no honorlock or anything. No final. Easy A.
8 essays, 5 required bc he drops the 3 lowest of the 8, I only did 4 of them and was fine. Skipped 2-3 discussions which need to be submitted 24hrs before the due date listed and you need to reply to 2 ppl for full credit. A's on all 4 tests, no final, ended with a 545, (540-600 is an A.) He goes by points instead of percentage. Very easy A.
Amazing, interactive lectures that keep you interested. Although attendance isn't mandatory, assignments revolve around lecture-based notes. Gives plenty of opportunity to receive and maintain a good grade.
Pretty easy A. However, I had to lie and "agree" to certain ideologies to get a good grade, so take that as you will. There are 8 two page reports and the 3 lowest get dropped. 16 discussion boards that are due every week and are generally easy. I didn't buy the textbook - you don't really need it. 4 exams. Exams don't have honorlock.
He was a great prof. Very passionate about sociology. Just come to the lectures ON TIME and you'll be good.
Wonderful professor, structres his lectures around note taking. Attendance was mandatory but it was used as extra credit so it would not actually take away from overall grade. No final exam or essay for course. 4 overall tests and he gave out 8 essay's as assignments but only takes top 5 as grades. Many opportunities to make a good grade in class.
This class is very easy but is set up in the dumbest way possible. You have discussions due at 8 am, but if you do not submit them 24 hours before the due date then you lose half of the points...So you have to submit it two days before the due date in reality. Mind you, they are all just opinion-based questions. Tests are easy, papers are easy.
I had Professor Dekow for SYG2000. I was worried about not having a textbook at first, but then found that his lectures are good enough for you to pass the exam. Take notes if you have issues with retaining information! He uses visuals and discussions in the classroom and also we collaborated with students in Sweden to write projects and reports.
There are lots of papers. The class itself if simple and straight forward.
If you don't post a response for each discussion assignment 24 hours before the due date at 8am, the professor will take points off your post. Other than that, the class is not bad. The discussions and papers are easy. The essays have to be two full pages and double spaced. He's very specific on the two pages part. It can't just be 500 words.
This is the second time I had Professor Diekow as an instructor for good reason. He is highly recommended by all of the veterans and military personnel in this area, and I believe it is because he is engaging, open to hearing your goals, and discussing issues professionally. He has a great style and is punctual, and a global educator.
Easy class with light workload. Discussions and papers are straightforward, and tests are simple. Definitely use unstuck AI and the free textbook to ace this course.
Amazing teacher and class. He's a super easy grader and gives the best lectures. He gives a total of 8 assignments and takes the best 5 for the grade book so you really only have to do 5 and there are 3 tests but you do them in a 2 day period anywhere with Wi-Fi.This course was super interesting and I would recommend him to anyone who is taking it.
This was a very easy class. I highly recommend. There's 8 papers that are only 2 pages and you only have to do 5 of them. It was a chill class among the chaos of my others.
This Professor is an excellent professor. His Exams are online and is projects are pretty easy and cool. Funny prof and a very respectable man. I would Take him again.
Professor Diekow is a very respectable man who explains things in a clear and understandable way, while also adding just the right amount of humor to keep the class engaging. The assignments are easy and educational as long as you pay attention in class and take a few notes. I definitely recommend this class—and especially this teacher!
Professor Diekow is great, he keeps his lectures interesting. He doesn't read off of PowerPoints, he actually teaches. A couple of writing assignments and tests are super easy if you use the study guides he provides for you. Overall a great professor and would recommend anyone to take his class.
Grades are ba
This professor has to be one of the most knit-pickiest I have EVER taken. For starters, if you make one mistake he's most likely not going to let you make up for it/give you any credit and then try to justify it with attitude (learned the hard way). He also changed the due date last minute for the final test. The work itself wasn't too hard tho.
A great teacher!! knows what he's talking about and doesn't need a PowerPoint to teach you so much. His assignments are easy, and going to class is fun. He is funny and very understanding. I recommend Professor Diekow to anyone!
great professor. has essays due most every week but there is no work other than that. would take his other classes.
Easy class if you need an easy A. 1-3 writing assignments a week but they're easy. Pretty cool professor overall. I took this in Fall B so things went pretty fast but definitely worth it. If you pay attention the discussions can become pretty interesting to know.
Cool guy! I only got a low grade because I was sick a lot, but this class would have been super easy if I was able to attend more. Still passed even while in the hospital lol. He only has 8 projects/homeworks the whole semester, four exams-open note, and lectures for half the class time. Exams are 37 min for 50 Qs tho, all online.
The course was super easy and low stress he assigned 3-4 online non proctored exams along with 8 papers throughout the semester where only your top 5 scores mater so it is extremely easy as long as you don't have an issue coming in and listening to lectures as there is no text book, he also give 25 extra credit points if u miss less that 3 days.
Professor Diekow is an amazing lecturer; keeps each class very entertaining. There are not many assignments or tests due; he grades very lightly on assignments; however, you will not pass the tests unless you take EXTENSIVE notes EACH class. Half of the questions are based on tiny things he says during class. Never got more than a C.
Every class is a lecture, but the information from the lectures is exactly what's on the test. Very wise, just not the subject for me. The only grades are 5 essays and the 4 exams.
