dude, Dr. Elrod was an amazingggg teacher!! If you're not serious about your work and aren't willing to work hard to learn and retain a ton of information, don't take this class! otherwise, good luck, and have a blast
Awesome teacher!! Be prepared to work though. He lets you call/ text him with ?'s and is very helpful. His tests are about 50% essay but he lets you know what the essay ?'s are going to be ahead of time. He is an excellent instructor in my opinion.
Dr. Elrod is the BEST professor I have ever had he will explain anything if you have any questions. He does not treat any question as a stupid one, in fact he encourages questions by giving you his cell phone number for texting questions, day or night. A&P I and II is really hard anyway but he is the best teacher for it. You must study for tests!
dr. elrod was the best teacher ever. He was really good. If your not willing to actually study and learn alot though, don't take this class. But, If your going into nursing or something I highly recommend him.
One of the best teachers @ NCTC! He helps you actually learn the material. Yes his class is really hard, but this is stuff your going to need if your going to be a nurse. Lets you call and ask him ? anytime. A++!
Amazing! Don't take anyone else for A&P!! I learned so much. It was hard work, but he is so helpful..day or night!
Great teacher is available outside class time for any questions and is funny so lecture is not boring and tells great personal stories. He is awesome!
Great teacher, very clear in his teaching, you pay attention in class to slides and do review you will pass. Don't do homework at last minute because you will get behind.
This is a tough tough class... Doc does a great job presenting already difficult material in a clear usually fun way. Will help at most any hour, and you WILL learn. Not for fun, but great for medical route!
I took anatomy and physiology 1 with him and I learned tons. The class was difficult and required sacrifices on my part, mostly being time to study for it. Somehow I pulled an A for the semester, which I am EXTREMELY proud/happy for. But this class is no joke.
Great Teacher! Hard Hard class lots of memorization. You will learn a lot.
Love Elrod,I was able to take A&P I/II at the same time and pull A's. He makes difficult material much easier to swallow and more than anything he gives you confidence that you will be able to handle it unlike others that tell you how difficult the material is to stress you out. He wants you to succeed-He goes out of his way to help you if you ask.
The best A&P teacher! If you're going into any healthcare profession this teacher is a must. Not easy, but fun to be in his class. He definitely cares about his students.
He is a wonderful teacher makes difficult concepts easy to swallow. gives test reviews so you know exactly what to study. Is available any time to help he gives his number out and is available pretty much 24/7 for anything you need.
Dr. Elrod is an excellent teacher and makes learning fun. He is easy going and is always helpful. There are no surprises on his exams, he tells you what is going to be on them. I HIGHLY recommend him.
Elrod is HARD! Take someone else. I've never studied so hard for a C. Nice guy, helpful, way too much info to study. Half the class dropped, more in other classes of his.
Made an A! Extremely interesting material and Dr. Elrod is easy on the eyes! Make sure you call him "Dr." not "Prof." or he won't answer you. =/ Go to class and STUDY STUDY STUDY! I didn't use my textbook at all; only used his PowerPoints. Not an easy class but if you but in the work, you'll get a good grade! Doesn't answer emails though.
Great teacher for such a hard class! Study your notes every day! Sacrifices may have to be made for the class to make an A.
very hard class. too much info. lab is even harder. test are mainly short answer and essay, only like 10 mutiple choice q's. if you like to be stressed, then this is the class for you. the lab portion is hard as well. lecture is super hard.
A+ instructor. I'm already a nurse and I'm taking a&p as a prereq for my BSN. I feel like if I had had Doc before going into nursing school, the concepts in nursing school would have been so much clearer. This is your foundation. You need to know this stuff! He's funny, straight forward, and tough. Work for it. Make it count!
Best anatomy teacher on the campus by far. he will give you the slides and lab manual online so you dont need your book unless you want extra reading which isnt always a bad idea. he is freakin hillarious
Took A&P here instead of at UNT. Best decision I ever made. Great teacher; he is enthusiastic, straight forward, and very helpful. The subject matter is hard so of course the class is difficult. Do not think this class will be easier here because it is a CC. Wrong! It is actually harder. The lab is hands on and intense but you learn a lot.
He is funny and tells lots of stories my learning type and his teaching do not line up. He would be a great teacher for someone who wants AP explained in story terms. He has a tendency to pick out favorite students and help them more than others. He will give you his cell number for question take advantage of that it will help.
This class was great. He has high expectations and wants you to learn your material. He is a GREAT professor. I worked very hard and even though I technically didn't make an A, he still gave me one. I'm assuming he did so because he saw how hard I was working, but either way I'm grateful. He also makes himself incredibly available to students.
He is an AMAZING professor. For extra credit on a test he let us wear Halloween costumes. Hard lecture tests but the test is strait off the PowerPoint. It requires TIME, at least reading over notes once a day. but he has a good sense of humor and keeps you listening. Also, he is fair and personable. Great guy!! I HIGHLY recommend him!
There's always a big essay question on tests but he tells you what it is ahead of time. He makes lecture funny by relating his personal stories to the material being covered. Doc is a great professor and is always available (he gives you his cellphone # and email). If you don't plan on studying then don't take this course at all.
Elrod is the BEST teacher I've ever had. He wants students to understand/be comfortable with the material and he's willing to do anything to help students accomplish that. He gives out his cell #& he's opened extra labs for study. You can ask questions and he'll never make you feel stupid. Ask ?s, work hard, STUDY and you will do well.
HARD TO FOLLOW,TAKE SOMEONE ELSE,
Elrod is THE best professor. Yes the class is hard, why would it not be? Just because this is not at a university, do not think it will be easier. I took A&PII at TWU 1st. Elrod is way harder but he is way better!
He makes you work for your grade! If you make an A in this course, your the one I want to be my nurse.
Doc is a wonderful teacher! You can tell he has a passion for A&P. Be ready to study the tests are HARD!!! There's 4 lecture test and lab test. This is not a class where you can study a day or two days before. Like you literally need to go over material everyday!
LOVED this class! you always hear a&p is one of the hardest classes to take, but elrod (doc) explains very clearly and is always ready to help. you MUST get into the lab and study though. MUST!MUST MUST!! lab and lectures tests are separate so theres like 8 tests or so. the only downfall, ONLY, is he takes a long time to grade tests
I struggled in A&P 1 with a different professor. Dr. Elrod really puts everything so clearly and is more than willing to answer any questions via text (in the middle of the night), during lecturelab, or by email. Such a wonderful and informative instructor! If I could choose A&P 2 as an elective, I would retake this class. Well done!
Do not expect any help from him. He has a great personalty but when asked what can you expect on the test and he say everything that is wrong. He will only give help to the young and pretty girls. You can use an older text book and spelling must be perfect.
If you want an easy A, this is not the class for you. You must study and truly learn the material to make an A. Great proffersor. He is always available to students in text, e-mail, and in person when in his office. There is no reason to not understand something given that he always available and willing to answer questions.
Doc is one of the best instructors I have come across in my college experience. He is willing to explain and and go slower if need to. It is a lot of information so this class isn't for the faint at heart. Taking him helped me learn how to study and that and i appreciate it. What i took form his class will help me finish college this time around.
Anatomy is a tough subject, period! There is so much information that the best you can do is find an instructor that enjoys what they do and can make the information easier to understand. Lectures are boring, but Doc makes them interesting. You MUST study the power points and spend EXTRA time in lab in order to make an A.
Great proffesor. Makes sure that you learn the most important concepts so prepare to write essays over them on his exams. Always available to students for help. You must study a lot but if you enjoy anatomy and physiology it won't be hard.
I actually love Doc. His class is extremely hard but if you study really hard you will do just fine. His tests aren't multiple choice, there's more writing parts on the test than anything else. If you don't need this class for your major I highly recommend against this class, just because it takes so much time and effort.
Teacher was too difficult for me to follow. I had a hard time keeping up with his lectures. This is a very tough class. This class should be taken without other classes or one easy class, because the amount of study time put into this class is difficult to handle if you are taking a full load of classes.
Doc is the best professor I have ever had! A&P is a tough class and requires alot of studying no matter who you take. However, Doc clearly explains all the material (and gives you goofy stories to help you remember certain things), he is HILARIOUS! He makes the class so much fun! Definitely take him, but be prepared to study to get a good grade!
Fun professor who does care about all his students. Tough class though. The lecture tests (w/ essays!) and lab tests require a lot of studying. I have never worked so hard for a B. He is always willing to answer questions and is one of the few teachers I've had that encourages you to text him with questions and he'll get back with you pretty fast.
Dr. Elrod is a great teacher! The class is hard mainly due to the amount of material on the test. If you do the review in detail you will do just fine. I highly recommend getting a good textbook, I used it quite often. He is always willing to help you, the effort you put it definitely is reflected in your grade!
Doc is an AMAZING teacher. I took him in the summer and was in class from 8-12 Monday-Thursday and he always kept our attention. He is so funny and finds ways to make you remember things. He's very caring and understanding. I would strongly recommend taking him! Study, Study, Study!
Doc breaks everything down in a clear manner and recounts stories for you to connect with lectures. Attendance is mandatory simply because lectures cover a lot, and the power points do not always contain everything. Flashcards and outlines will be your best friend in this class. 4 lab tests & 4 lecture tests. Study daily + ask questions Easy A!
Such a hard class. Powerpoints were LOADED with information. Each test covered 4-6 chapters that had about 40-80 slides. Strictly memorization. Essays on tests and short answer questions so you really need to know your stuff. Glad I will be done with this class in a couple days it was so difficult. Really nice guy though, cares about his students.
Doc is a great professor and loves what he does. I learned a lot. I took this during the Summer 1 semester which means there's a lot of information to learn in a short period of time. His class is difficult. I've never studied so much for a class before. His tests contain essays and short answers so you must know all the concepts really well.
Very good professor. Anatomy is hard but he is very accessible and will let you text him at 2am if you have a question.
Amazing lectures. Makes A&P so interesting. Best class I've taken.
I took doc for summer A&P 1, he is by far the best professor I have had an NCTC. You can tell that he loves what he does and is passionate about teaching anatomy. Tests are difficult, you have to study A LOT. Lectures contain a lot of info, I always record them and listen to them. Always do the reviews and spend extra time in lab, awesome class!
Lecture: There's SO MUCH info to know (hundreds of slides), but tests are around 40 questions. There's very little room for error. Lab: He does his own thing and expects you to learn the information yourself. If you ask questions, he helps. It is clear he has a lot of passion for A&P, but unfortunately, you'll be teaching yourself (ps it's $$$).
Great professor, has passion for this class. Lectures are long need to take notes always. Miss a day need to go to another class to make sure you get what you missed. Test are fill in the blank, matching, short answer. Labs are supper easy if you study, a lot of memorizing. NEED TO BE 100% FOCUSED
You HAVE to study. This class requires studying everyday and you must know all the terms and concepts. He always available outside of class, I texted him everytime I had a doubt and he replied within minutes. There were 4 exams and 3 practicals. Great guy and is always ready to help but you have to work hard and be determined to get a good grade.
took this class during summer. there is so much to learn and memorize in short amount of time. If you want to make an A you must study every night. Flashcards are your bestfriend. He gives reviews for each exam. there are essay questions, short answer, and matching on exams. nice guy, just a lot to teach in a 5 week period.
Explains things very well, open to any questions and reachable outside of classroom by phone virtually any time. Get ready to memorize a lot! Do yourself a favor and never miss a class. Better yet, get a textbook and read it in addition to lectures. 4 exams and 3 practicals. Exams are 50-70% essays. Study a lot, and you'll be fine.
Took his class in the summer. He is a very educated man and makes class fun by telling jokes. You must study everynight if you plan to take him in the summer but if you study you will do great. Must show up to class to be successful. You can reach him at pretty much any time. He will facetime, answer calls, text, email, anything.
Love him as a person. Funny guy. He cares. But his AP class is a struggle. He's a big fan of trick questions, which sucks, since the material is already extremely difficult by itself. You have to study hundreds of terms but then there's only 50 questions MAX per test. Very little room for error. You will work your butt off just for a C.
Many students failed and drop his class. You study hard for a grade of C. Study a whole lot harder for better grade than C. Tricky test and confusing test questions as the lecture in powerpoint are short cut sentences.
Really Funny Guy and makes the class interesting! His class is DEFINITELY not the A&P class to take if you want to "just pass" or get an easy A! If you actually want to KNOW the material (b/c most of us are medical field majors), then take his class!! You will need to stay in open lab as well to study for the practicals! STUDY and you will be fine
If you're willing to put in the time and effort needed to do well this class "Doc" is the best man for the job. He prepares you as best he can in this class. He is engaging, funny, and humble in his approach, he puts a lot of effort into making the information approachable and interesting. He is one of the best professors out there.
Take a different instructor if you do not want to get grade of C, after studying so hard.
Honestly he is the best teacher I have ever had. Yes, the material is difficult, but he makes it as straight forward as he can. He is always available to help you if you need it. He goes above and beyond! If you put the work in, you will get the grade you want.
Lab exams are TIMED and 100% *fill in the blank*! You'll memorize 200+ muscles at a time & be quizzed over maybe 45 of them. He'll ask about the same muscle on a test multiple times. He has 200+ things to ask about but asks about same muscle on different looking models just to trick students into second-guessing themselves for repeating an answers.
Take someone else for A&P avoid him unless you want to fail
Dr. Elrod has been a great instructor. Yes, this class is difficult, as are most health sciences, but he is available nearly 24/7 to answer questions and help you succeed. If you're struggling then ask for help, and participate in labs.
He is a funny instructor but his tests was tricky.
Like everyone said, his class was very difficult. However if you make an effort, you will pass the class. Not just memorizing stuffs, you have to actually understand the materials. He was very nice and always available. If you get an "A" in his class, you will easily pass Microbiology and some medical-related classes.
The req book for this class is "any college level A&P book" so who knows what to study. Nothing was assigned the first 3 weeks. Test dates change constantly with a 24 hour window to open it - not good for working students. The first test had 33 questions & 20 minutes to answer before it closed. No homework given, quizzes don't help.
Not specific on which textbook. I found that the quizzes were so much easier than exams, but that doesn't help to prepare for exams. Long lecture videos, where he basically reads power point slides(if taking online). 33 questions/20 min exam (a,b,d,c,e answer choice). Does not keep up with grading very often.
Doc was one of the best professors I have had so far in my college career. I graduated from a UC in California and still had some prereqs to finish before applying to a DPT program, and he honestly restored my faith in teachers who care. Everything is in his lecture slides and he is able to explain things and create amazing analogies. 10000/10 rec
This course prior to covid was amazing. You have to participate and do your homework to pass the class. It's hard. Then covid hit and we went online. Our test times were cut in half and there were no lectures available. Take him in person not online. He's really good at teaching and is an amazing professor.
Only gives you about 20 minutes for 33+ questions! I understand its there so you don't cheat but how can you do anything else when you don't even have enough time to read the question before the time limit expires. Definitely way harder than it needed to be
avoid avoid avoid, he is horriable. you end up learning more about his personal life than you do the course, does not explain things well, and only takes test for grades
This was the most challenging class, but it was also my favorite class Ive taken thus far. Doc is passionate about A&P and wants you to pass, but you need to put in the work. If you put in the time, ask questions, and study, youll do great! 10/10 recommend Doc for A&P
Loved having Doc!
Doc Elrod is a stud. Really makes this demanding class very doable. Lots of stuff to memorize and there's just no getting around it but he will take the time to help you get what you need.
Doc is a good teacher and makes his lectures easy to access! However, the only thing I didn't like about this course was the fact that your overall grade is mostly based on your exam scores so make sure to STUDY! Doc doesn't give much homework, but when he does, it DOESN'T make sense at all. I still recommend taking him!
Very tough course, but you need to know this to be a good nurse. Better know how to spell. Tough, but fair.
Took his class for AP 1 and 2. He cares about helping you pass his class and really learn the material and incorporates stories into his lectures to help the material really sink in.
I really enjoyed this class and feel like Doc is a great teacher! The class is hard because the material is hard. Don't miss a class or you will be behind. I appreciate all the info he adds on Canvas. That being said it is a LOT of information. The class is test heavy. You need to plan an appropriate amount of time to study if you want to do well.
His lectures are very helpful & he was a very good teacher. He does take a long time grading sometimes, but that is the worst thing you could say about him. He was a great professor & taught me a lot.
I had Doc in the fall semester of 2024 and he was AMAZING. Granted this is still an intense course, but he made it so enjoyable! He always let us come in outside of class time to ask questions and study models and sometimes just talk too. As long as you show up and make sure you put in work outside of class you will 1,000% succeed!
not very friendly and test do not match with lecture material
Doc was by far the best professor I've ever had, his lectures were always really good, and you will do well in these classes as long as you ACTUALLY study HARD, you'll do good, highly highly recommend doc though!
Doc is great! Very funny and lectures well. Coming to class will help ur grade a lot, and so will watching his lecture videos. Class is a little challenging but definitely doable.
Doc is the best option that NCTC has to offer for A&P. Humorous. Enthusiastic. Lectures well. Literally do not take anyone else. Test Heavy: 4 lab/4lecture exams; very heavily weighted; occasional curves Lecture Heavy: Mastery requires watching lecture vids several times. Success requires significant study time. Don't be a baby abt the test heavy.
