Great prof. Had him my freshman year and still remember him as one of the best. Very helpful.

His tests are a little hard, but nothing you can't lick with a lot of studying. he is a wonderful teacher, makes class so entertaining and fascinating.

The class is interesting and he teaches well but the tests were challenging and kind of difficult.

Gaffin is awesome...he's fun, good-natured, and manages to make even your typical 500-person lecture hall class interesting...you can tell he really loves what he does...he loves animated powerpoint presentations and matching his tie to the day's lesson!

Gaffin rocks. His class will challenge you, but he is an awesome teacher who captivates you for the duration of class. He is super nice and extremely helpful. Take him if you can. You will learn SO much.

His tests are HARD!! You do worse on the tests than you thought. VERY tough materials, going at a very fast pace. He's a really funny, dorky, goofy, smart guy though. His lectures are anything BUT boring. He plays music and dances to it.

He is a professor who teaches as against those who publish and leave their classes to be taught by some TA. Take him but be prepreared to work hard.

Entertaining professor who makes a rather dry subject interesting and entertaining. Imagine actor James Woods on a caffeine binge and you'll have some idea of his character. Make sure you know the material backwards and forwards. His tests are no joke.

Animated teacher, you can tell he's excited about what he's talking about, which helps. His tests are difficult. To get an A, you absolutely have to know the material like the back of your hand. In retrospect, I probably would have picked a different teacher

He was very intresting man. Always kept class light and fun. But got serious when needed. You should study for this class at least 1 to 2 hrs everyday in order to keep up because exams are a wee bit difficulty. But an A is not that hard to achieve if you apply yourself.

hard class. you have to study a lot. He is an excellent teacher, but he should be teaching higher level science with his expertise. hot for an older guy and funny (it's a science class they're all weird-ie. the ties). STUDY STUDY STUDY the tests suck

Doug is an excellent teacher. He loves what he teaches and tries his best to get others to love it as well. This class is difficult. In fact I would say its a good class to take if intrested in pre med. The fact is if you want an a you can get it. Always read what he assigns, it helps.Good Luck

Dont listen to these people who bash Dr. Gaffin. He's a great professor. Very animated and fun to be around. Now the tests are difficult and you will need to study but thats expected in a course like this. Overall my favorite course yet. There are many other oints other than the tests that will help

He's an amazing guy. He wrote our effin' book, after all (which always helps!) He actually seems interested in our well-being as students. Every professor should be like Dr. Gaffin. Watch out for his tests, though. They're killers. Go to ZAP and always take loooots of notes.

This has been my favorite class at OU. Gaffin is a fantastic teacher. Tests are rightfully difficult, so make sure you go to ZAP whenever things are unclear.

He is a good, interesting teacher, but his tests are incredibly difficult. After taking notes, doing the readings, getting help from the lab, and studying notes and old tests I still repeatedly scored in the 60's. This is my sophomore year and until now I had carried a 4 pt GPA.

Fun class but hard test

Dr. Gaffin is highly entertaining and he is passionate about the subject matter. He even brought live zoo animals to class. You have to study hard, but it is worth it.

Possibly the best teacher I've ever had. He's very entertaining and enthusiastic about the subject. His tests weren't hard at all if you just pay attention and keep up with reading assignments. It's only hard if you expect a blow off class and to not learn anything.

Dr. Gaffin is an excellent professor. I am a straight A student, but made a B in his class. My lesson learned is that, no matter how dorky it sounds, you must re-write and go over your notes as soon as possible after every class. The tests are as hard as can be imagined, so study consistently DON'T CRAM, IT WON'T WORK.

GAFFIN IS SO SEXY! I absolutely loved this class! Gaffin made it very fun--- you HAVE to go to class and you have to read the text book! I made an A and I read every chapter required and studied my notes and my book for every test... This is a very hard class but just remember that Gaffin wrote the book so reading it is important and go to class!

I contemplated suicide a few times as a result of Gaffin's zoology class.

i think he is a really good teacher. he had a class of 900 students and he still found time to talk to me when i started slacking off during the middle of the semester. and everyone i've met, loves this guy. oh and his wife's cool too.

Good class but not all concepts were explained as well as they could. The tests were really hard but he curves the cut offs and homework/pop quiz grades can help you out.

Hes amazing at what he does, but he has too much on his plate if you ask me. He teaches too fast and I swear he has ADD but he has a passion for what he does. If you study well you should have no problem at all, although I had to teach myself almost everything. I would recommend him over any other Zo teacher at OU. Good Luck!

Loved the class! Learned a lot and Gaffin always kept me interested. Tests are VERY HARD! You need to study everything and do your readings! You should always go to class because the pop quiz points are important and the homework is important. FUN class overall.

Dr. Gaffin was a really fun zoology professor. He is so excited about this subject and it's contagious. In order to get a good grade, you HAVE to study. You need to go to class and read the book, but it pays off in the end.

first of all everybody here almost completely agrees that the class is interesting and gaffin is a good prof. but that does not justify the fact that the class is way super hard for an intro class and because his tests are unreasonably hard it is next to impossible to get a good grade which in the end ruins your gpa.prof gaffin should realize that

Dr. Gaffin is an amazing teacher who prob knows EVERYTHING about zoology. people who say it is very difficult obviously don't know how to study, and if you do youll be fine. i didn't use the book hardly at all, but i would recommend taking LOTS of practice tests that he posts online. they really help you get a feel for the way he asks questions

Best professor Ive had at OU. Difficult for an intro class, but I didn't need the book except for figures. I just took practice tests and studied my notes. Attend class everyday and copy/paste the slides he has up and you will do great.

Douglas is the bomb. The class really isn't too difficult, but studying is a good idea, and I suggest attending class. His ties are precious, and his lectures are pretty interesting. I love Douglas.

This is a very difficult intro class, especially for incoming freshman. But defintely way worth the results of your hardwork. Gaffen is really nice, loves what he does, and is really good at!

its a hard class but if you're good at science its really not that bad...I actually made a 100 on one of the tests. I would definately do all the practice tests and actually pay attention in class instead of trying to write down everything that he says..if you pay attention youll actually retain it instead of having to cram the day before the test

One of the best professors I have ever had. Although this is an intro. class, don't think it'll be easy. There is a lot of work to do, but he is very willing to help you and he gets very qualified tutors to help too. He really cares about his students and is very understanding.

As a journalism student, it was hard enough just to bring myself to take this class but I did it just to see if I would pass. You must go to class and certainly take notes! But if you're there, you pay attention and you actually open the textbook, you'll do just fine. Not easy subject matter but his passion for the subject more than makes up 4 it.

As everyone said, just because it's a freshman class, doesn't mean that it will be easy. He's a funny guy, and he always keeps his lectures interesting. His wife, the writer of the textbook, is a good lecturer as well. You have to do a good amount of studying for this class though, in order to make a good grade.

This is not an easy class at all. You will definitly have to work hard. Go to lecture, take notes, but most importantly do the online practice tests. Gaffin is really funny and good at what he does. He gives you the tools you need to get a good grade, but your grade is going to be up to how much time you put into it.

While this was the hardest college class I've taken, Dr. Gaffin made it one of the best. He really cares about his students and provides them with everything to be successful. You will have to work very hard to make an good grade, but it is possible if you work hard and put in the time/effort.

omg it's not as hard as people make it seem. It's a repeat of high school biology. Yeah, it involves some more work but I think his teaching style is perfect, especially for a class of 400. He attends some tutoring sessions (of which there are MANY) so if you are struggling then don't blame him. My favorite prof and the only class I do well in :)

Gaffin is a great professor. Knows what he's talking about and loves what he does. Don't have to worry about falling asleep in class. His powerpoints are very interesting. Gaffin is the funniest, wittiest, and best teacher I've had. Don't let the reviews deceive you--if you attend lecture and pay attention, minimum effort on your part is required. I didn't buy the book and I made a 95. Just don't assume it'll be easy; listen, learn, and enjoy. :)

He was probably the best professor I've ever had. Makes class interesting and he is literally hilarious. Such a cute old guy, and loves what he does. Lots of opportunities for help. Take practice tests online before exams for sure, they are basically the same tests you will take. Not really a hard class if you study.

This was my most difficult class this semester. However, Dr. Gaffin is an exceptional teacher and once I got adjusted to the work load (which is not light) I did just fine. The tests are hard and worded poorly, but he does curve and gives multiple chances to redeem points with pop quizzes and homework. Very interesting class and great professor!

Best teacher ever! He makes class so fun, he made me want to look forward to going to lecture. It wasn't the easiest class but he explains so well. Just find a study buddy and you will be fine. Put time and effort into this class and you'll make it.

Best professor I have ever had! There is a lot of material to learn but the class is very interesting and he keeps you entertained. It takes a lot of studying to do well on the tests, and missing one day will put you pretty far behind, but overall a great class!

This class was difficult as a freshman level course but most of the students taking it are going to be in the health professions so you should be able to deal with difficult things. He is so much fun and I would take his class over any other any day. Show up, study, and visit action centeroffice hours and you will do great.

AMAZING Prof, Hard class!

Dr. Gaffin is a pretty good professor. He makes his lectures very fun and exciting, and he has some fascinating research. Little on the quirky side sometimes, but much better than having a boring professor. Tests are fairly easy but the homework takes a ton of time. Overall a good class and professor.

Gaffin is such a funny guy! He has the best lectures (he is a powerpoint God) and is always willing to clarify if you are lost. The class sizes are very large, but he is approachable. Show up, do the assignments and you've got an A. I would take another class with him if I could!

Loved this class! So many assignments, good for a grade cushion.

Tough class to take as a freshman, but he gives you all the material you need to get an A. You just have to make sure you know everything in the "menus" aka outlines that he makes. I made study guides out of these outlines and it helped a lot. His lectures are really well-structured and organized which I loved. His organization helped a lot!

You'll have to attend class since he gives pop quizes every lecture. However, if you pay attention (trust me you will) and read, they're easy points. Tests can be a bit tricky, but he helps you both in and out of class with your weak points. Overall, he a great teacher!

Dr. Gaffin is amazing. I wish that he could teach the rest of my science classes. He is interesting to listen too and thoroughly enjoys teaching. Going to class makes a huge difference. I found that listening and trying to comprehend in class was my best study tool. He made what could have been an awful class very enjoyable.

Make sure that you keep up with the reading and ask questions when you get lost. Intro to zoo has a lot of terminology and concepts. The final is rough if you don't keep the old material fresh in your mind.

Intro to Zoology with Gaffin was the hardest, yet most rewarding, class of my first semester of college. YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE EFFORT. Go to his action tutorings and do all of the online assignments. His lectures are energetic and funny; I HIGHLY recommend not skipping unless you must. Overall, phenomenal professor just hard material to learn!

This was a fantastic class. Like anything, you get out of it what you put into it, but if you take the time to study for the tests and complete the assignments, you're good to go!

Dr. Gaffin is an amazing professor. There's a lot of material. This class took up the most of my study time. Find a way to go back and review old material so that you can keep it fresh in your mind for the final. Tests are tough, but I made a 64 on the first one and made an A in the class. Dr. Gaffin is great. He realized the diversity and amount of people that need to take his class and is able to accommodate them all. It's obviously a hard class, but with the resources he gives you it's easy to pass and very possible to make an A.

I absolutely love Doug Gaffin. He is one of the best professors this University has! I am a biology major and currently in Bio 1134 since I took Zoology with Gaffin my test scores seem to be higher than my friends that took the other biology class, I think the course number is 1124. You must go to ACTION tutoring and speak to him one on one.

I am currently a junior. I took him my freshman year and he is my favorite professor at OU to this day. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met and he gets very excited about what he is teaching.

Dr. Gaffin ruined me for all other professors. His lectures are hypnotic. He cares a great deal for his students and is NEVER condescending to them, even if they ask "stupid" questions. He was the reason I became a Zoology (now Biology) major because he teaches you how to think critically. Put simply: Dr. Gaffin changed my life. I love the guy.
