slightly odd at times but explains pretty well
rambles a bit... but is still entertaining
Rewards on the exams for people who went to class. Challenging tests, but fair

Entertaining: Presents material with enthusiasm
Interesting lectures and funny anecodtes
i think he's better than dr. mike (from superpsych). you da man, doug!
an AMAZING professor, without a doubt one of the best at western. writes very fair exams.
Great teacher! very enthusiastic and energetic. a pleasure to learn from! Look out Dr. Mike!
very enthusiastic...it helps when the material's really boring. besides, he's just so adorable!
Interesting man... very knowledgable, but can easily confuse his audience as he tends to run off in tangents. Very well organized and set in his ways.... kinda squirrely, but those make the best profs don't they?
good proff...goes off on tangents but still manages to keep the classes attention...watch out Dr. Mike
Good teacher, but somewhat tough on the exams....very detailed!

hazlewood's tests are impossible and reflect poorly on the material taught
Very organized in lectures. Only fault - his exams are difficult and quite specific.
Good prof, exams are hard as hell and it's a lot of reading! First day of class, put your head down, close your eyes and I swear he sounds exactly like Narwar from Much Music!
Well, he may be enthusiastic, but he can't answer questions in class worth a damn. Unfair exam questions and he's unwilling to clarify. Over-explains easy concepts and manages to make a big confusing mess out of difficult concepts. Don't think he should be teaching a required psych course.
His lectures are somewhat interesting and he's pretty funny, but his exams are tough. Tests you on the smallest details that might only appear once in the textbook. And the text is boring as hell.
how much can one talk about DOORS?
Lectures are very clear and organized. Exams hard at first but fair once you're used to them.
ok so maybe he asks you about the smallest details on a test, but for the most part he is pretty fair...if you pay attention in class the exams are not so hard, plus he's pretty entertaining...he gets excited about everything
This man is very enthusiastic during the lectures and makes the material as interesting as possible. However, his exams are very inconsistent and difficult. Only in his class can you walk out of an exam thinking you earned an A when really, you got a C.
It's outrageous how difficult his exams are...he goes into the smallest detail and the class average is almost always around 70. Be more than prepared if you enroll into his classes.
The guy's hilarious...really keeps your attention, study the material, you'll do fine!
This mans exams are brutal. I have had him for a few courses, and they have been fine, but for 280E I would recommend avoiding him.
This guy has sooo much energy and enthusiasm. Hes a pretty good lecturer and he really keeps your attention, but I found his slides to be really disorganized and the bullets were all over the place! The first exam was fair, the second was BRUTAL and the third was decent. he tries to keep a 70 average. He will not answer ANY questions on an exam :S
I think Dr. Doug is a fox. But it's so true about thinking you got an A on his exam and coming out with a B or C. Some random details instead of the important concepts. Love the class though!
Very enthusiastic teacher..gets really into the lecture. Exams are definitely tricky though.
He is extremely enthusiastic and organized. The only problem is that his exam questions are very ambiguous and written in a confusing manner.
Way to ruin my transcript. Avoid at all costs.
Very good teacher, his exams focus on very small points, so take very thorough notes from class / book. if you do this you will do well.
Made the class much harder than it had to be. Know the text book VERY WELL
very enthusiastic and animated. one of the few classes i neve fell asleep in and never wanted to miss. however, exams do include minor information from texts - but if you read them, you'll do fine.
Unbelievable that this guy has soo many positive comments, class is completely unbearable
If this prof wants individuals who he can punish for not having their world revolve around him, I suggest he gets dogs. It is totally inappropriate to grade students on personal anecdotes and stories about his friends..... Aviod his classes like the plauge!
He is the worst professor I have ever had. The information in the class is very interesting, but his exams are ridiculous & its impossible to do well in this course. Learn every single detail...if you want a 60% in the course. If you want a 80%....drop the course now.
Funny, Interesting and WEIRD!! He talks a lot and test on everthing!! Make sure you attend ALL the lectures and Study the textbook WELL!! Has the worst temper during exam...
His lectures were interesting and often pretty amusing. Anyone taking this class should keep in mind that his lectures usually cover material that isn't in the textbook, even though the exams rely heavily on textbook readings. Make sure you take good notes on the assigned chapters and try not to miss lectures. Great professor, interesting course!
interesting lectures, never made them run too long... but DIFFICULT exams! make sure you know ever single tiny little detail from textbook because there's NOWHERE he won't go. although he seems like a good guy, exams really aren't very fair (don't test important concepts, but rather, silly insignificant ones)
You can't get any cooler than this man.
Hazlewood's exams are pretty tough, and only worth 10% or 15%. Lectures are most of the exams, so you should not skip
Ridiculous as a professor. Does not create scientifically sound tests -- but ironically teaches a research methodology course. Probably buddies with Rushton. What is the world coming to?
Loads of material to study for!! Goes way into details in textbook. Be sure to attend his lectures!! MUST**
I've got him for the second time now (280 and 190) and I was hoping it would be a better experience. Not so much. Really animated guy, makes lectures interesting, but exams verge on being unfair. Asks the TINIEST details that have little to do with the course, makes exams much more difficult than they need to be. VERY hard to do well in his courses
Unfair exams asking detailed questions that require memorizing nonsense from his lousy self-compiled textbook. Disorganized lecture slides and even though enthusiastic in class, doesn't make the course materials any more interesting.
Intersting to listen to, but alot of material on exams
If you you go to class and pay attention you can do really well in this course. Just make sure to pay attention in class, things that may seem irrelevant will probably be on the exam.
Dr. Hazlewood is a great teacher who has an obvious passion for what he is teaching. His exams were tough, but definitely fair. The people who did poorly on the exams are likely the people who never came to class.
Had him for the online version of this class, and was scared for his exams because of what everyone else wrote here. I don't know if he changed his methods since everyone posted all the negative comments about him, but the exams were SUPER fair and as long as you read the text (which was all that was required) it was straight-forward. Great prof!
one of my favourite profs. As long as you go to lectures, his exams arent bad, but make sure you pay attention, random things, such as seemingly unrelated quotes will be on the exams. keeps things interesting in class :)
Great prof! And funny! Made the course surprisingly interesting. Very knowledgeable and genuinely wants us to succeed and enjoy the class. If you go to his lectures and study the text, you'll do well on the exams.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! I don't know why some people say you can't do well in his class :S. It is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL that you attend all lectures and read the textbook (it is not necessary to memorize all the details either). I attended all of Prof. Hazlewood's classes, which were extremely interesting, and I read the textbook and ended up with an A+
EXAMS ARE HARD.....LECTURES INTERESTING I was really looking forward to each of his lectures. But exams are ridiculous, hard to get a good grade. Can ask questions that are irrelevant and don't mean much in the whole context of psychology. I was studying like crazy but couldn't get a good grade. Though again, lectures are awesome
Avoid; 1st impression is awesome guy, real excited and wacky! Exams completely unfair and has low content validity.Ex Exam item from group cohesiveness section: "True or False: Dr McSoandSo, rides his bike to school at 'so and so' university" Yes this question REALLY demonstrates my understanding of concepts..not.
Amazing Enthusiasm!! Made it possible to stay awake through a 2 hour night class. For his exams you have to study every little point!! including in the textbook. Ex. names of people so said random quotes in lecture, and textbook points that aren't major. Uses application questions also!
A very good professor, helpful, nice, clear, enthusiastic. Not a big fan of his exams. I don't want to say its impossible to get good on them, but id say a good 25-30% of the questions are either way too specific or totally awkward (as 2 persons below me stated about the bike one).
I'm so glad I chose to take a class with him. He keeps you interested even if the material is somewhat dry. Exams are fair (you have to study details in the textbooks though!) He responds to emails fast. Overall a great person and professor!
He is so amazing! So adorable, so funny, so nice! And I don't know what everyone is saying about hard. It was so easy to do well in. Go to class, read the textbook, and that's it. I got 90's on all his tests. I would love for him to teach all my classes!
You basically have to memorize every detail of each lecture and the textbook to do well in the course.
Unfair, ridiculously hard exams
super nice. rather sexy. go to lecture and you'll do ok on the exams...
Great prof. High energy and great sense of humor during lecture. Requires A LOT of readings. Contrary to what a lot of people say, its not hard to do well on his exams. That being said, it won't help to focus on "big picture" ideas when it comes to studying the readings for exams. Best to focus on little details.
Professor Hazlewood is a very good lecturer. His style of teaching is very thorough, and he explains concepts very well. His exams are not impossible..it is quite easy to get 75-85% on each of his exams. Read the textbook, highlight it, review it weekly and know ALL DEFINITIONS (lectures+textbook)
very boring lectures and impossible exams.
horrible
Honestly, when I read the majority of the comments I was scared to take his class, little did I know this guy is hysterical. He is funny, interesting, clear and his exams are completely fair. For those who didn't do well in his class it was likely because they didn't go or don't know how to read. loved the class, take it!
He's a pretty squirrelly dude, that's for sure. Great enthusiasm for such boring information, I would take him again
Great job!
pretty intereting class if your a psych major. tests are very hard, even if you attend all lectures and read book. focus on small things not major ideas. would not take another class with him. he is not lenient with marks!
If you attend class and do your readings you'll be okay, however I found his exams very detailed. He also is a a lot kinder to females.
I came into his class terrified from reading these comments! His exams are pretty detailed but not too bad (for research.Applications is another story.Memorize everything..) If you study the info there's no way you won't do well. Enthusiastic and funny! Also, each exam he takes Q's off so your mark is bumped up!
exams are extremely easy, as long as you attend every class, or get lecture notes if you missed class. mc are extremely specific: will use an opening quote and ask who said it on the exam. need to know the textbook well for exams. he was very clear in explaining what is to be expected. i have taken two classes with them, and received 80's in both.
I loved this class, it was easy and interesting. His lectures are lively and he is very enthusiastic. Uses really interesting examples. If you go to class and read the text you will do REALLY well in this class. Covers Psych and law, sports, education, health, industrial org. etc. gives you a little on each 3 exams, not cumulative
his lectures are fantastic and he's super enthusiastic but oh my goodness are his exams ever specific and hard.
I'm currently in this class and just took the first midterm. I was terrified because the other comments say his exams are unreasonable. Personally, I found it simple and only got one question wrong (after he dropped some). Just go to class, pay attention to the specific examples he gives, and take notes from the textbook. He wants you to do well!
Great guy, laughs at his own jokes, but I struggled with his testing style. Questions rely heavily on knowledge of minutae that don't accurately reflect knowledge of the material. That being said, he answers any questions quickly and in detail.
This class was better than I thought it would be. He's a good lecturer and the material was interesting. However there's a lot to study for exams because most of the time his lectures have very little in common with the textbook material. I also didn't find him particularly helpful at answering questions. Overall a decent course.
Absolutely my favourite lecturer at Western. This was the 2nd time I had him and I thoroughly enjoy his classes. Yes, the exams can be somewhat difficult but not unreasonable.
I wish I could be as passionate about research methods as Prof Hazlewood is. He really makes boring subject matter come alive and become easier to understand through his interesting examples. Can come across a little crazy but is so funny.
The Exams are way too difficult!!
got him for 2 classes. great lecturer, makes boring stuff seem somewhat interesting. exams arent easy, but theyre fair
Engaging professor, he makes the mundane seem more interesting. His lectures are not entirely based off of textbook material and he has no lecture notes, so it's beneficial to attend class. But, he's very willing to help out any students with questions.
Interesting prof, easy course! Read the textbook and go to every class for an easy A. Interesting material too, I recommend the course and prof!
one of the most inspiring professors!!! very passionate! you definitely will learn something from his class. (Not like most of other profs just reading the ppt) Highly recommend*** however, the exam is not easy, you need to work hard***
very harrrrrrrrrd exams!!!! he will ask random info
hurts your gpa, if you don't care your grades, take it. Very interesting lecture.
Very boring lectures. Rambles a lot of random stuff. Stuff sounds easy but he makes the exams extremely hard and based on irrelevant things from the textbooks. Tutorial is absolutely horrible.
you think it's a bird course until you see the exam!
Super long and boring lectures. The course is pretty much just constantly reading the text book.
He is amazing, so much fun in his class. Loved the jokes, yes you need to read a lot but the information are really useful
OK professor. Classes must be attended, as lecture notes are not posted online. Material is a interesting, but the exams were way too difficult. Asks very minute, detailed questions that are irrelevant to the overall understanding of the lectures/chapters. Definitely hurts the GPA. Also, have him next semester for 2036, so not too excited...
Professor Hazlewood was a fantastic teacher. He was very enthusiastic during his lectures and really made the course content interesting with examples of studies, videos and surveys. His exams were fair, you just had to pay close attention to detail when memorizing content. He was very approachable and easy to talk to in office hours.
Gives very broad lectures but tests based off of specifics from the textbook. The textbook is your best friend in this course. But, attending lecture is a must because he will test you on certain examples that are not in the textbook. Overall an O-K prof but wouldn't take this course again
Honestly he's fair. People are going to complain that it is a hard class, but if you attend lectures and do all the required readings you will do fine. He is very enthusiastic and he loves to teach. Very good professor and strongly recommend him. I would love to take him for all of my classes.
Hazlewood is an amazing lecturer - very passionate & animated, thoroughly explains concepts. Gets marks back quickly & gives students the opportunity to review their exams afterwards. Exams are fair but you HAVE TO go to class and take detailed notes. He makes it clear which concepts will be stressed on exams & the amount of lecture/text material.
Great prof! Lectures are long but relatively interesting. Tests are easy as long as you read the book.
You HAVE to go to class because he doesn't post notes. Tests heavily on both the lecture and the textbook. You have to know the material really well, as he also tests on very minute details.
You have to go to class!!! He will test you on random facts from the textbook such as peoples names. He is not supportive if you got see him. Do not take this class unless you want to put extreme effort in it. There is some scientific stuff as well. I worked my ass off to get a good grade
You must go to class because he doesn't give out powerpoints. Exams are on very tiny, small details. Lots of textbook material to learn. Very good lecturer. The reason the course is so tricky is because of the forced 70% department average for 2000 level psych courses. Don't take if you're expecting a bird course.
Prof Hazlewood is a very genuine, nice man. Next slide? He does the best he can with the course material provided, which by nature was quite bland at times. Dont expect easy exams. I found myself at multiple times laughing at the ambiguity of many of the MC questions.
He is very passionate about what he teaches. Lectures don't follow the textbook. 80% or more questions come from the textbook. Textbook readings are awful! Class is enjoyable. A good teacher.
AMAZING prof, purposely taking another course with him next semester. His exams are super fair, and he makes it worth going to the lecture because he doesn't talk about textbooks stuff and you have to go bc he doesn't post his slides. He's super fun to listen to. 10/10 recommend
Doug is so sweet and a great lecturer. He is very animated and passionate about what he does, and wants his students to do well! Exams are definitely fair but you MUST go to class and take good notes as he doesn't post lecture slides online (so make some friends in class, too!) and make good textbook notes. Studying the night before only is a no-go
He is very passionate about the topics and his lectures are engaging, but the class itself is terribly structured. Each week is a totally new topic; they do not flow whatsoever and, so, studying is difficult. He doesn't post slides so you must attend class and type EVERYTHING he says. Exams are fairly tricky.
Dr. Hazlewood is a really nice guy. PSYCH2036 had a lot of emphasis on textbook material. He doesn't post his lectures online so you have to show up. If you put in the effort to read the textbook and show up it is an easy class. Super interesting Psych class with focus on biological systems, lots of material related to kinesiology and heath science
Engaging lectures, comprehensive & well organized slides, interesting material, and fairly straightforward exams. Highly recommended.
Really organized and nice. Gotta attend class because he doesn't post lectures, don't hesitate to ask him to go back a slide if you didn't get everything down! Exams can be kinda tricky. He will test from both lecture and textbook, sometimes picking random little facts from the book. Keep up with the textbook chapters, it's a lot to read and get!
