Manages large class well, do the study guide.
Don't read book. Do study guide. Straightforward, but you've got to go to class.
Knows what he's talking about and makes it clear... don't bother with reading the chapters, just answer study guide questions, which he lets you send through email so he can check them for you. Very willing to help -- study guide is essential!
I'm not great with science but I earned a B in this class without alot of effort. His career intention is to teach-he makes that obvious by his availability to his students.Know the study guide like the back of your hand and you'll get an A.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about, Ingram was terrible. After three hours a weak of his pompous whining, I was ready to drown myself in Frog Fountain.
teaches you to hate tests! Bookwork is good, quizzes fair but damn those tests are insane!!
Go to class and do the study guide and you will do fine. Dr. Ingram is one of my favorite teachers here. He is funny, and makes a tough subject easy to understand and interesting.
I am not a science person. Lectures are, at times, vague, and lacking in neccissary explanation. Although, do the study guide everyday and eamil it to him religiously and you will get through it. He means well, tests hard, attendance a must.
Always willing to help. Do the study guide and go to class and you'll do fine (don't buy the book, get it from a friend!). His tests take some studying but the guide helps a ton. The labs are pretty easy, and so is the honors supplement.
Dr. Ingram is one of my favorites that I had at TCU. I had him for Physics and took him again for astronomy because I liked him so much! He makes science fun and makes it understandable.
Greatest professor in the world! His Astronomy class is a blast. Take it.
Whoever gave Ingram a positive rating is crazy. This guy is terrible. Yeah he knows what he's talking about, but he makes it so confusing. I studied so hard and could never get a good grade on the test. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
His class is usually entertaining, between the stories and sarcastic comments it's always good for a laugh. He is also very willing to help you with any problem you might have!
he is a really nice teacher but his tests are kind of hard but he is really really nice
The guy is really rude outside of class. He is tougher than other astronomy teachers.
1st, i'm a "science person", so this class comes easy to me as far as learning goes, but if you dont study, you will fail. must go to class and keep up with the study guide (daily/weekly). my favorite teacher of all time in his teaching style.

I didn't think the class was too bad. You can def. get an A. You may have to actually sit down and study for the tests though...there's a thought.
I Loved this class. You have to review and study for the tests but if you keep up with the study guide it really is not that difficult. This was by far my favorite class this semester.
This is the worst class ever. Unless you are majoring in Astronomy, DO NOT TAKE INGRAM. If you are he knows what hes talking about, but if your just looking for a science. Look elsewhere.
Bill Gates, I mean, Ingram, is easy if you just. keep. up. with the Study Guide. I kinda did, and I got a B, but not without some effort at answering more the day before the final. I recommend the look-alike.
Yeah, Ingram is a HARD teacher, but if you just keep up with the study guide, you can get a B. Seriously, gotta keep up...slacking in his class will murder you.
BEST class I've had at TCU(And it's not even my major!) Got a D in the 1st exam for slackin off, but I worked harder and ended up with an A at the end. Ingram is the best damn teacher EVER, plus he's friggin hilarious!
i probably should have gone to his office for help like he kept asking us to do. tests are reasonable and he grades fairly. when i had him he gave extra credit for going to tutoring. show up on time! he gives quizzes over the reading at the beginning.
Very hard class, but great teacher. Its a lot of work for a freshman class but I loved it (the class not the work).
He is a great teacher!!!!! keep up with the study guide and you will be okay. he doesn't trick you, if it's not on the guide it won't be on the test. He was very enjoyable, my favorite prof yet!!!!!
He offers extra credit and wants students to get an A in lab. I was a few points short of an A and he rounded it up!
Awesome Professor! He is extremely helpful and offers lots of extra credit to boost your grade.
The best teacher and class i've had yet!! The class isn't the easiest i've had, but 100% worth your time. The labs are easy and it's a great class to take if you're an honors student because there are a few more easy assignments to cushion your grade!
cool class, learn some interesting things about our solar system. do the study guides, all the questions on the tests are off them. if you do the study guides smooth sailing
It's not as easy as you hear. It requires significant amounts of work, and there is tons of material to study. Slip up a bit and you will get that C you don't need.
He is GREAT!!!
he look good, nice hair
Great teacher... I am NOT a science person and he definitely explains things and keeps things clear and concise. Great for a PSL credit that you are afraid to take!
a science class, so its hard. but he does his best to make it as easy as possible. if you do the study guides, you're guarenteed 100%. the study guides are hard though, so its actually not an automatic A.
requires a ton of outside work for the study guides but if you do them and have him check them you'll be fine. explains stuff very well and is more than willing to help but if you can put in the extra hours then definitely dont take.
Ingram was really cool. He is down to earth and does not believe in making a student do pointless work. He explains things, that most find difficult, very clearly. As long as you complete the study guide and study moderately you are almost promised a "B," but if you put forth a little more effort--A
Hes an awesome teacher! He makes hard concepts easy to understand & he's funny too. There is a study guide, but its not graded, and the test comes directly from it. Plus, you can email him the answers and he will tell you what concepts need work. If you need a PSL, DEFINETELY TAKE THIS CLASS!
fascinating class, but if you're not a scientific thinker, you'll have a really hard time. just because you do the study guide doesn't guarantee an A, like i heard. i had to really study hard, but he is very helpful by putting past exams as examples online. takes up a lot of outside class time...
Very good teacher! All science classes seems to be hard, but he tells you eveything on the tests. Do the study guides, and HAVE HIM CHECK THEM and you're golden! Very understanding and cares about his kids
Very amazing smart person and professor. Class was VERY difficult, but he puts it in understanding terms. Cares about what you learn. Funny, cool, highly recommended. Always do the extra suggested problems, and you'll be ok on exams.
He makes it so interesting! Hard, detailed test questions that you have to have memorized to get an A on the essay tests (which is every test, by the way). But I can't think of a better intro science class to take!
Last semster i failed the first test but then got my act together and made A's on the rest and ended up placing out of the final. This semster I have an A. Do the study guide, make note cards, and MEMORIZE them word for word. He's a great guy and attempts to make astronomy super interesting.
Tougher class than I thought. If you do the study guide as you go and go to class everyday, you should be allright. Funny guy too.
4 star prof! Teaches things really well. You have to keep up with the study guide or you will get in a hole. If you keep up with the study guide, have him check it, and study it on a regular basis, you are garunteed an A.
he is really fun! if you do the problems every class you will get an A, guaranteed. He gives the same questions on the exams.
Not an easy class, but very clear lectures. He perfectly explains what he wants for the tests. And also if you get 96 as an average before the final - no final for you. That is cool though hard.
Really cares about teaching. If you make the effort in the class he is very willing to help you out in anyway. Best way to contact him is by email.
The best professor i have had since i have been at TCU. Truly passionate about his teaching, cool, down to earth and interesting. If you don't do well in your class then you are either not attending class, or not doing the reviews. He literally personifies what every student wishes their professor would be like! awesome, i definitely reccomend!!
I liked this class. It's tough but if you show up and do your stuff, you'll be fine. He's extremely clear on what he wants and his nerdy enough to make you smile and have a great time in class. A must take at TCU
Very passionate, loves to teach. He's very clear about what he wants from you. You have to go to class, but if you take notes you'll do well in the class. A pain-free science credit.
He is very fun and he loves to teach, he is also very clear on what he wants you to study for the tests. He makes the labs fun too. I highly recommend him.
Hard tests but good professor
This class was my favorite learning wise. he has a study guide that if you do the questions and submit them, he'll tell you if they are right, and they are the only questions allowed on the test. he's a science geek, but a nice one. GREAT TEACHER!!!
You really have to screw up to fail or get below a C or B. You can exempt your final exam and all he does is take off 6 points if you don't take it or at worst takes off 6 if you just bomb it. Go to every class and do the study guide and you should be fine. There is also almost no math involved and the little there is in lab is idiot proof.
He's a nice guy, but don't be fooled. His class is pretty tough but if you keep up with the study guides, you should be fine.
great prof. material is really interesting. he tells you exactly what will be on the test through the study guide questions.. which is great... but you do have to really study the study guide if you want a good grade... he loves what he teaches and knows a lot about it. i loved the class and you really do learn a ton
AMAZING teacher. Made the class enjoyable and clear. He tells you EXACTLY whats test material and what is not, and he doesnt waste your time with what is not test material. He DOES give you extra material if you are interested. Going into the lab I was teaching people basic things because they had the other Intro Astro teachers. E-mail to reach him
Loved this class and I'm not even a science person. Keep up with the study guide questions and submit them to him to check before tests and you will do great. You are required to complete 10 labs, do 7 consecutively and 3 supplementals and you'll be done with them before spring break. He really loves his subject and is a very dedicated teacher!
Ingram is cool as hell, he gives you M&Ms for asking good questions, but his class is rediculously hard. If you dont go to class you are screwed and you cant find the study questions in the book so dont take this class.
Loved him! This was one of my favorite classes in undergrad! I liked him so much I took astronomy with him, just because he's so awesome! He's probably the best teacher I had in all four years of undergrad and 2 of grad at TCU
Nice man, interesting teacher, everyone says keep up with the study guide and you'll be good- but the SG is hard as hell. It's 6-8 questions per class and they all require intense research- at least an hour and a half a day of outside study. THis is a "non-science major" course but it sure wasn't treated like one.
STUDY...do the study guides...I can't stress that enough. Just pay attention in class, take good notes, and you'll do alright--he'll help you out if you need it...but don't fall behind. I got a B just because I procrastinate and didn't do those study guides. Otherwise, you're fine.
I worked hard and ended the semester with over a 100 average. I didn't have to take the final.
Not sure if this is a new trend or a fluke, but gave our class nearly 200 study guide questions in the 5 week term, quite a few more than from his older study guides, summer session or not. Nice guy though, highly intelligent and loves what he teaches. Seems to be a sci-fi geek; he even mentioned dilithium crystals one day!
Great teacher. He tells you exactly what will be on the test with the study guides and really cares about his students. He's always there for questions and help, especially through email. He is always looking for recommendations to improve the course. Highly recommended if you put in the effort to do the study guides!
Show up for class, take good notes, do the study guide (and do not procrastinate in doing so), and check your work with him via e-mail. He tells you exactly what you need to do, and if you don't do it - you're in big trouble. He's a good teacher, loves what he does, and is respectful, but either be prepared to do the work or don't take the class.
loved this class!! go to class, take good notes and do the study guide (you can email your answers to him and he will check them). the tests are ?s straight from the study guide. hes awesome!
Wow, a great teacher, the most helpful i've ever had and even though the class wasnt mandatory it was still enjoyable most of the time. I recomend you go to class as much as possible and do the study guide questions and you will do good.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I could rave all day. He explains things well, never thinks a question is stupid, and is always happy to help. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes, and do the homework (before he answers questions on it in class) you will do fine. A great guy through and through.
Very boring class. He's a smart man, but doesn't really teach concepts and just shows the class lots of examples. I didn't really learn anything in his class. Gives lots of tests with no opportunity to make up bad grades. Gives different versions of test with increasing difficulty and picks who he gives each one to.
Pretty much just keep up with the study guide questions and email him your answers because he'll let you know whether they are correct or not. Then, you study those answers and you are golden for the exam. I personally thought the class was very easy and interesting!
Dr. Ingram really tries to be reasonable in what he requires of students. His lectures were very clear and understandable, although some people might not like his emphasis on solving problems in class. It is very easy to study for tests, since he posts a lot of old exams and worked-out solutions online.
He's really funny and a good teacher. The only down side is that if you don't go to class every day, it's really easy to get lost. You also have to do the homework. Your entire grade is based on 10 tests, 10 homeworks and the lab. The lab TAs don't speak english well, so that makes it hard.
He is one of the best profs at TCU. Go to class, take notes, do the study guide and you'll be fine. The tests are exactly like the study guide. And you're required to do 10 labs which are so simple! He also gives plenty oppurtunities for extra credit and he is extremely helpful if you don't understand any of the material.
Dr. Ingram is an awesom professor. lecutres are very interesting. give study guides after every class. rarely uses the book. if you keep up with your study guide which is easy, you will do very well
prof ingram is really considerate when it comes to help in the class and extra credit. the labs are SUPER easy but you HAVE to attend class if you want to pass. the final is SUPER easy and the class is definitely an easy B but you really have to work and memorize the study guide if you want an A. I thought the class was pretty fun and interesting
DONT BUY THE BOOK.. all of the test questions come from lecture. he gives you study guides and the tests come straight from the study guide. If your willing to put in a few hours studying the study guide before the test its an easy A. By far my favorite class this semester and I'm a business major
This class was not my favorite. I didn't feel like the things he taught were very interesting. I also though it was pretty hard. Be wiling to put a lot of work into the study guides. He gives you like 60 questions to answer and learn and then tests you on 6. Hes a really nice guy, and willing to check all your study guide questions.
Loved this class. LOVES Dr. INGRAM! DON'T BUY THE BOOK. All test info is given in the lecture. TAKE EXTENSIVE NOTES! He lets you email your study guide answers to make sure you have it right. All study guide questions are potential test questions so he's basically giving you the test in advance. STUDY and you can do well.
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO DO THE STUDY GUIDES. There are 40+ questions on the study guides but only 6 on each exam - if you blank out on one question you just failed. A boring lecturer but you have to come and take notes. Also if you're not into environmentalism you might not want to take this class because he spends several weeks talking about it.
Great teacher, not hard to make an A. Buy a voice recorder, arrive on time to class, and he will give the answers to the previous day's study questions in the first 5 min. but record it cuz he talks fast.
Best prof I had at TCU - hands down. Crystal clear - many demos to make things stick in your head. It's just interesting stuff. Its all about understanding why something happens - never will he ask you some ABCD/vocab question. If you want a relevant science class that is NOT just a blow off waste of time - take Ingram!
Great great great professor. I got a C in the class and it was still one of my favorites to attend. He doesn't take role but attendance is pretty much mandatory if you want to pass. Every lecture is interesting and he's a pretty funny teacher. Would recommend to anyone looking to satisfy a science credit or just take a good class.
This class was so hard. I studied more than I have for anything and I still never made above C on my tests. If your willing to make astronomy your life, go for it. Good teacher, but such a hard class.
Funny dude but hard class. I was looking forward to learning about planets, but in the spring he teaches stellar astronomy. The subject matter is hard and you have to go to class and take good notes. I make pretty good grades, so Im not an idiot, and I failed the class. The labs are miserable. You have to do the study guides, which take foreve
the class is hard only because of the amount of work, but he practically GIVES you all the answers in the beginning of class. he teaches by the study guide and repeats the answers at least twice. recording the lectures helps tremendously cuz you sometimes cant catch it all. the guy has an amazing nerd sense of humor making the class very enjoyable
You have to go to class to do well, but he keeps it very interesting. The study guide he gives us is the test. Going to class helps you do the study guide and doing the study guide helps you on the test. Information is difficult and this is not a blow off class.
BEST TEACHER AT TCU
Doug is the man. He is a great teacher, is excited about what he teaches and is always willing to help students. I took the intro to astronomy class and learned a lot, even though I never have really understood any of that stuff before. Easy A if you go to class at least every other day and send him your study guide answers!
Difficult class but you learn so much. Ingram is a genius and explains everything so well really cares about how his students perform. Do the study guide as he covers the material in class and email him your answers for him to check and you should be fine. Definitely recommend.
So much easier than I anticipated!! I took his Intro to Astronomy. Fill out the study guide, send it to him. If it gets the ok, memorize the answers. I guarantee 100% in the class if you stick to it!
Dr. Ingram is a really awesome teacher. He seems a little arrogant, but that's mostly because he has a huge amount of knowledge about astronomy. If you do the study guide, memorize the answers, and can duplicate them on the test then you will ace this class. Also, instead of going to his normal labs, do the supplemental ones. They're fairly fun.
Holy crap this class was hard. I had to pass/fail it and then just stopped going. Don't take over the summer because I don't think it would have been nearly as hard if I would have taken it during a regular semester. 3 labs a week sucks!
Good teacher with condescending tone and elitist attitude, good lectures, will help if you ask and will check your answers to reviews if you email them. If you do not prepare his tests will destroy you so be warned.
Great professor. Funny. Keeps you interested. Tests are very difficult though, so do everything you can to study or be prepared to fail. Lab will save or kill your grade, so go to lab. Your entire grade rests on 3 tests and lab grade. STUDY!
I do not recommend Ingram if you plan on just wanting to know about the interesting facts of space and planets. He wants you to know about EVERYTHING before you even start that mid-semester. A lot of the work is on your own and while the labs are easy, the tests destroy some kids. They're 100% essay and he counts off for little mistakes. Good luck.
I really struggled in this class, but I don't have a good head for science. I stayed on top of the workload, sent him all of my study guide questions, consistently went to class, and still made a 75 on the first test. He tries to be helpful, but his arrogance gets in the way.
Dr. Ingram was the best professor I had this semester. I highly recommend his class! It is not difficult if you keep up with the study guide and take advantage of the supplemental lab opportunities. He is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and sparked me to have further interest in astronomy. Overall very good because he loves to teach!!
Yes he checks the study guides, but he adds 6-10 questions every class period! There all essay & it takes him close to a week to get back to you. The tests are only 12 questions from the study guide, so you do 70 questions to answer 12 on the test. And the tests are also short answer. Stay on top of the study guides! Pass/fail the class if you can!
Wonderful professor. He's nice and slightly geeky, but in a charming way. He loves the material and makes you want to love it too. If you keep up with the study guide, it makes the exams a lot easier. Gives out exemptions for the final if you're pulling a high A (94 or higher). Takes attendance and will give you extra credit if you don't miss class
If you do the study guides you'll do fine on the tests. Some of the study guide questions are on lectures so go!! He's really helpful on answering any questions and you tell he really loves astronomy.
Dr. Ingram's archaeoastronomy course is incredibly easy if you just answer the study guide questions and check the answers with him. There is no reason anyone should ever get below a B in this course... Unless of course you just don't show up...
Dr. Ingram was not a helpful teacher to me at all! I did everything: came to class, took good notes, did the study guide questions, yet I still found his class difficult. The test is only 8 questions while the study guides are 40. If you do not answer with the wording he likes, he will take major points off! Disliked this class!
The teacher is very good at explaining things to where you actuallyunderstand them. He uses visual aids and tells you excatly what will be on the Exams. If you learn, and dont just read, you will get a good grade on all the tests. My fav class I took this semester.
Dr. Ingram is a solid guy with a good knowledge of the material. He dabbles a lot with both the textbook, his personal lectures, and online articles. Be sure to email him about the exam questions, it is the only way to study. You gotta try pretty hard to fail one of his exams, they are straightforward. Final exam exemption with a 96 or higher!
Hes awful. He is no help and not friendly. If you go to his office hours he barely explains. In class he flat out told a kid I don't want to review this question. I don't like him!
Dr. Ingram is a great teacher. The reason why people struggle is because they dont pay attention in class. Its only 30 minutes of notes because the first 20 he spends going over constellations that you dont have to know. Gives you questions online that are on the test. As long as you take notes and do the readings and study guide Q's you'll do well
For me, Dr. Ingram took some getting used to but by the end of the semester I liked his class. After you get the hang of it, his class is easy, you just have to keep up with the work. He talks really fast but you can always ask him questions through email or office hours. If you keep up w/ the study guide and check answers with him, you'll do fine.
Dr. Ingram is one of the most unpleasant people I have ever encountered. He is a decent professor when it comes to knowdledge, but his personal intercommunication skills are TERRIBLE...at best. I have never experienced such rudness in my life and I would not wish it upon anyone else. Stay away from him if character matters to you.
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!!
Don't take this class unless you can memorize 60-80 short answer study guide questions for an 8 question short answer test. Took this class thinking it would be easy and it took more time out of my day than any other class. I did the entire study guide and emailed in my answers and barely got a B.
HARD CLASS. You have to put in the work. No away around it. Each study guide he gives are at least 50 short answer questions. He is a nice man, but hard teacher. He is quick to take off points on test. You have to play by his rules. If you do then you will be ok. Check your study guide answers with him. Do well on labs, it really helps ur grade
He skips around in lectures. MUST MEMORIZE the study guide to make a good grade. Most study guides are on quizlet
This class was a cluster. I consistently asked for help to no avail. His tests were such a mess. I studied for weeks and barely passed.
Ingram is awesome. If you keep up with the study guide, you'll do well. You always know what the questions on the test will be, because they're all straight from the study guide. It's a very intelligent way to let students know what's important to study, but it is a lot of information if you're trying to cram at the last minute.
My favorite teacher! His arrogance is to fight off the ignorance of the people around him because he knows so much! Come to class preparing to have your mind blown because he simply knows so much! He teaches things plain and simple. He answers the study guide questions at the beginning of class, I just fill in answers to the study guide as he goes
he is such a character. very funny for such a smart man and his lectures are not as boring as people say. the study guide is a pain though but at least you know exactly what's on the test. its hard to memorize them even if you look at them for a while so if you're not good at memorizing i wouldnt take this class. otherwise all good!
Must do assignments before class to be able to answer the quiz questions. Tests are kind of hard but is made up of assignment questions. He always provides formulas so you can use your math skills to figure out the answers.
Ingram speaks kind of fast, so if you miss something don't be afraid to ask because he's very willing to go over it again or slow down. It helps a lot that he makes study guide questions, and also you can get your answers checked by him. However, don't wait too late to study because each study guide has about an average of 50 questions.
The tests are extremely tough. All test questions are essay/short answer responses that are detail oriented and very hard to memorize. I would never take this class again and if you do PASS/NO PASS the class. I made the mistake of not making it P/NP and made a D in the class even though I went to every lecture.
Doug needs work... His test are not that hard if you have good memory. It is his TOUGH SUBJECTIVE GRADING that takes you down. Shame on him. I would not take this class again. PERIOD. I made a B that took blood, sweat, and tears to reach. Take as a Pass/No Credit option or do not even bother. Still a nice guy though.
Made an A. Doug kills off students with his grading. Stellar students were killed off due to his arrogant expectations in an introductory class. Shame on him. Garbage.
Take thorough notes during the lecture, and do all of the studyguide. His exams are straight from the studyguide; literally just memorize it. He grades kind of hard, but get your studyguide checked with him beforehand and you'll be fine. Not an easy A, but if you do the work, you'll be fine. For honors, all you do is write an extra easy essay.
This class is not an easy A, but he provides a study guide and his tests are literally the same. The study guide is hard and time-consuming, but if you study it you will get an A in the class. Best part is there are a ton of extra credit labs so you don't actually have to go to the weekly labs. He is really nice and I would recommend this class!
Ingram is a great professor. Most of the bad reviews are pretty old and I think that may be the reason. I took him in the summer of 15 and was amazed at how fun the class was. While you will need to put in some work the class seems like a good GPA booster.
I went into this class expecting to hate it but actually found it to be a lot of fun. I thought professor ingram was a great teacher. If you show up and pay attention there is no reason you shouldnt get an A
Regardless of the course, Doug Ingram is the most rude and arrogant professor I have encountered at TCU. When I had questions, he would not help; his condescending attitude is sure to bring you down!
Take this class if you need a science credit also doubles as GA. Overall the course was pretty easy if you show up and pay attention you will have no problem with this course. I took it in the spring but have heard the summer portion is easier.
Dr. Ingram makes sure that you understand the material before the test. He also is pretty funny and makes the class go by pretty fast. If you need a science credit this is a course I would recommend. I knew nothing about the material going in and was still able to get an A with a little effort
Dr. Ingram is very blunt about what you need to do to succeed in his class. If you put in a lot of effort you will do well. In my class, you can prepare for every short answer on the test ahead of time.
Although he makes this class sound easy, it's not. He gives you a study guide of 50-60 questions and picks 8 for exams. Keep in mind that to get full credit on most questions you will need a detailed paragraph response and a well-labeled diagram. Way too much to ask students to know that for 50-60 questions and then chose only 8. Do not recommend.
Ingram is a gem. He is super passionate about astronomy and spends the first 20 min of class just talking about a constellation. If you show up and do the study guide each week it's an easy A. He'll check your work during office hours or by email to guarantee success.
TAKE HIM! He is the only professor in the department that can teach Physics, believe me. Lectures are inspiring and clear-cut. Tests are just modified version of the homework, though you really need to work to get the grade you want. Barely need textbook. Easy A. He even exempts you from finals if you have at least 96% expected grade.
He's a good professor. 3 tests and a final. Before each test, he gives you 50 questions you answer them, (and check them with him!!!) and he will ask 8 of those questions on the test. Make sure you get your questions checked by him, and you'll do fine.
He gives a lot of homework and a lot of materials to learn on your own, however if you don't know the material in the first place you'll find yourself trying to understand it on your own. His teaching skills are not that great and if you learn from others explaining to you, then DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Otherwise, take him
I don't like study guides, but there is no other choice for Dr Ingram to handle the class since it is huge (>70 students). Lectures are good, and he is passionate about the subject. Sometimes he can come across as aloof or condescending, but he is not here to please whiny lazy students, so that's ok to me.
Intro to Astronomy is not about stars!!!! It's a class about physics and chemistry!!! If you want a fun class I hear Archeo Astronomy or Astrology are the ones to take. At the end of the semester Ingram gives you 5 grades in your grade book: 3 tests, your lab, and your final. The tests are so dang hard so get ready to live in the library.
Lot of work and memorization but Ingram is a good lecturer and cracks professor jokes that are funny.
the class is hard, It won't really matter how good you think you are, his exams are just way much harder than the rest of what the reviews here say. If you don't want to feel bad abt yourself then take another professor.
Dr. Ingram is a bit nerdy but in the best way! He has been one of my favorite professors so far and I wouldn't hesitate to take another class of his. Physics is tough material, but he does a really great job explaining it. He is so helpful outside of class - I've emailed him several times late at night and he always responds within an hour!
Dr. Ingra is very knowledgeable and funny. He provides a study guide, update throughout the term, that lists the questions he could put on the test. He will look at your answers before the exams to verify correct answers. So, it is pretty easy to get an A as long as you attend class and have him check your answers to the study guide questions.
Great professor, very funny. Only 3 tests, final, and lab grade (each 1/5). Study guides given for each test but you have to answer the questions and then get them checked, and he's very helpful with checking. Have to study these extensively as there is no extra credit. Lab is very very easy to ace.
Doug rocks- I took Physics II with him. Definitely need to study outside of class and do all the videos and past tests to do well. He understands its a hard class and treats everyone with respect. Clear, concise lectures. DO NOT SKIP!
Dr. Ingram is a good professor. For some reason he seems annoyed most of the time, but he gives good lectures and is clear about what you need to study for his tests. He provides study guides he can check for you. Theres a lot of material in this class but its doable and is pretty interesting.
Tests are over study guides that are given so you have the test in front of you before you go in. No curve balls. 3 tests, lab grade, that's it! Easy!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR CORE. Youre only graded on 3 tests that have 8 questions but you are given study guides, however, they have over 60 questions on each study guide. In order to do well, you have to memorize the study guides and guess which ones will be on the exams. LOTS OF WORK and there are easier NSC courses to take instead.
Professor Ingram always said how important it was to come to lecture despite not taking attendance, but every day it felt like we would cover 10 minutes worth of material and the rest was spent telling stories. Lab grade is easy and boosts your overall grade, lecture requires a lot of effort to do well. He always seems to be in a bad mood too.
He is, by far, one of the best professors that I have had at TCU! Has a clear grading scale, gives you the needed materials, and is always accessible. Lectures were engaging, and the material was excellent. Offers FUN supplemental labs including planetarium visits, sky tours outside at night, and a star party at lake Mineral Wells. Best class ever!
Dr. Ingram actually works problems in class, which is how you learn physics. I wish I had him for physics 1 and physics 2 because physics 1 would not have been so horrible if he was my professor. Please take physics with him: he is very helpful and wants you to understand physics. Also, physics is not his favorite subject, but he will make it fun
Dr Ingram is a great guy, he is easy to talk to and pretty funny. Labs were always enjoyable
Dr. Ingram is a great teacher. He wants students to succeed, but you have to do the work, but if you do it, he will happily review it and guide you in the right direction. Although online learning can be a challenge, he adapted the course and made it a great one, definitely take him for core classes.
If you want to get a good grade you have to consistently go to class, but if you go to class getting a good grade is not too hard. He gives you a study guide of 35-40 questions for each module and 6 of those questions are the test - short answer. There are no surprises. You have to put in the work but he will go over any of the questions you have.
5 tests, each unit you have 60 potential questions from the readings & lectures that could be on exam. Exam is 7-8 questions, so hope you get ones you remember. Some questions you can only check in class, others you can email and he will look them over. If you can memorize 60 multiple sentence and diagram answers per unit, you'll do great.
Ingram is a nice guy but just makes an intro class way too time-consuming. Unless you are good at memorizing 60 short answer questions for a test don't take this class.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! he changed his way of teaching from the earlier reviews, he makes this intro science class so unnecessarily hard. had to P/NC it because it was so time consuming and difficult. The exams are any 8 of the 60 short answers that you have to find all the answers to outside of class and need to know all of them bc they r random.
The most frustrating thing about this class to me was how you could work for hours to memorize the 60 study guide questions only to get a low grade because you had memorized an incorrect answer. The classroom is flipped so you spend hours each week outside of class reading materials. I would not take this class, especially not for a core credit.
Dr Ingram shows how to solve specific problems in class when starting a chapter then goes over any questions people have in the class afterwards up until the quiz. Grading includes 6 exams and in my case 13 quizzes. He is accessible outside of class and is a funny professor. He may offer an extra credit opportunity.
Class involved a lot of outside readings and videos in order to prepare for exams. Six exams with eight free response questions from the 60 provided every few weeks.
Good Professor over all, test is hard but if you study the questions he post it is a easy A.
Dr. Ingram is such a great professor for physics, he goes over concepts but mostly does problems in class which is so helpful. We have six exams with four questions each, but they're taken from worksheets and homework and you have access to previous exams and quizzes. He gives a lot of credit just for doing the work correctly.
This professor single-handedly gave me the worst advice of my college career, which will cost me THOUSANDS. If you are pre-med, BEWARE! I would not take this class with other prerequisites because he has quizzes every week and tests every other week.
If you have accommodations be ready to fight him to have him follow those accommodations. I have never been so disrespected by a professor. DO NOT TAKE!
The most fair professor there is. Tests are easy if you understand all of the practice problems from class, he pulls questions you have already see before. He is always willing to meet or answer questions over email if you need extra help. Only professor you should take for physics
Prof. Ingram's class requires consistent effort, but the structure helps you succeed. Use the study guide and Unstuckstudy to prepare - it saved me time. Labs were fun, and he's willing to clarify any questions. Definitely take this class if you're up for the work.
He's okay as a professor. Lectures can be boring and the class is straightforward, but problem is you have to put an egregious amount of memorization for an A. He claims that he doesn't grade strictly on exams but he does. I probably studied more for this class than my actual major classes. Every other astronomy professor is just way better anyway.
While there were a few homework assignments, he always went over pretty much all questions in class and the homework is easily found in the readings or videos that he assigns. The homework is also the questions on the test, and if you actually do the reading it gives you a good study foundation and makes it easier to memorize for tests later.
I had him for lab and it was one of the easiest labs I have ever taken. There were plenty of makeup labs if you couldn't make it and I finished the class 3 weeks early because of the supplemental labs. He's smart and gives great help. The lab never takes the entire time.
His class was set up to where we had 5 modules and each module we would take a test. However, each module there would be about 60 questions that we would have to learn and memorize. Only 8 would be on the exam. I also went to his officers hours one time to talk to him and he completely shut me down and was not helpful. It's just to much to remember
Tests were easy if you study and do your homework. He's super nice and will help you with your homework.
He seems to think that his class is the most important class that every student he teaches has on their schedule. He will assign you 3+ hours of reading a week; he doesn't teach concepts in class, he goes over study guide questions based on a 60-question module that you are expected to do on your own. This process restarts every 2 weeks.
expects you to come to class reading the material and ATTEMPTING problems before. would have gotten a much higher grade by doing all the homework and practicing. you have to be on it, but with 6 exams (10% each) before the final you have so many chances to improve. plus everyone gets almost all 200 points from lab (huge boost)
his class is very memorization heavy, which works for some and is terrible for others. for me, this was one of the easier classes this semester and I really didn't put too much work into it beyond what is required to pass. as long as you do the hw and study a bit before the tests, I feel like it's really not too hard to pass. can be a tough grader
