Doug is a sharp guy, though not too organized. Easy class, have a lot of discussions, see a lot of films, then must write about it. Most work is in class writing assignments. Easygoing, tho not challenging for most. You can walk out with an A if you simply do all the work. You might not learn about writing as much as youd like, tho it is Engish.
Very intelligent but demands that students think for themselves. If you want to be lectured to, you will be disappointed. If you want to learn to think for yourself, take his classes. Easy or hard depends on student. Get as much out as you put in.
Simply wonderful instructor.
Best instructor ever. Plain and simple.
Douglas S Johnson is a mineshaft of wisdom packaged in a gangly running man, with a plume of smoky red hair. He is of the rarest breed of humanity, with the ability to both inspire and build trust with those for whom he dedicates his life, and he does it well. Never will you find an educator as devoted to and caring for his students. I miss him.
Makes learning a joy. His 111 class is the most interesting and fun class that I have ever taken at GRCC. I wish all instructors were like him.
Fantastic teacher!!!!!!!!!
Great!
Fantasic teacher. Made creative writing come alive for me in a way that I never thought possible. Highly recommended
Simply the best! Take this instructor!
Doug is cut from the hard-core stone set aside for only the finest of educators. When the last bit was chiseled free they smashed the remainder, knowing what they had was all they'd need. There's not the space enough to write his praise here. Were he a woman I'd lust after her. Were he in a bar I'd pick up his tab. In a fight, I'd have his back.
Have to agree with everyone previously: a great teacher with a great mind. Knows something about everything! And can make students laugh and think at the same time. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!
Great teacher. Always had fun and interesting discussions in his class.
He is a very fun teacher and his class is very helpful,he use the video and the good story to teach us what is moral.Other, he is a interesting man.
Great class!! Take it even if you don't need it. His class is pretty easy and it is very interesting!!!
This instructor treats every student with respect. He has a lot to offer someone who is willing to exert effort.
GREAT teacher. I had no interest in all and he brought out a lot more than I ever expected and I really enjoyed his class and learned so much. He doesn't use the school textbook, he has his own references in his syllabus. Take his class, Take his class, Take his class!!!
Great teacher! He's a super cool guy, very likable. Didn't have that much interest in the class but he makes it fun for you. Can get side tracked talking but overall a great experience.
GREAT TEACHER! SO HELPFUL and SOO MUCH FUN!
He was great. I loved that he had an actual theme to the class instead of just a bunch of meandering papers you had to write. Our theme was psychology so it was almost like the added of bonus of taking a psych class. I would recommend this professor highly!
This teacher was great! Highly recomendet! Thank you Mr.Johnson!
Really awesome teacher! Made the class very interesting. Very relaxed atmosphere that encourages individual thinking. Come to class every time and don't procrastinate on the assignments and you will have 4.0. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
Mr. Johnson's class was not what I expected from 126. Every day was filled with thoughtful discussion and analysis. He was personable and helpful, and kept the workload to a minimum. He gives feedback on rough drafts of essays, so everybody can do well on final drafts. Nice guy, great professor.
I took 101, 126, and 236 with Doug. I would highly recomend him to anyone that wants to get challenged and cover interesting material instead the readers other teachers use. Great teacher, great guy, highly recommended
spoke wisdom.
i'm not sure who gave him the hot but oh well. this guy is AWSOME!!!! there should be waiting lists for this guy containing hundreds of students. he is the easiest, most chill dude i have ever had the pleasure to meet. it was kinda weird at first because he kinda mixed in a little psych but it was still a great class and i'm more of a math guy.
He really takes the focus off of the rules of english and onto its application in persuasive arguments, mostly the class was a discussion on various intro to psychology, other than that the class was fun and at times a bit not for kids
This class was AWESOME!!!! Mr. Johnson told our class some amazing stories about cool things that related to what we were talking about for the day. The papers that we did were relatively simple and easy. In my class we did two papers, one final, and there was an optional E.C paper also.
His classes are worth taking! The lectures are interesting and engaging. Mr. Johnson has knowledge on a wide range of topics and he's approachable. He welcomes meaningful input in the discussions. The papers are pretty straightforward and he gives feedback on rough drafts before they're graded. Extra credit was offered too.
His E.C paper saved my grades. His lectures are a mix of psychology and philosophy. I wish he teach ENGL 128.
Doug Johnson is a very good teacher. Don't expect to learn a whole lot of writing specifics from him (grammar, etc.), as class time is discussion-based, usually centered around psychology, history, etc. However, he gives good feedback on the papers, and is there for you when you have questions. Very inspiring, personable, straightforward teacher.
Johnson's pretty great. I plan to take ENG126 w/ him next quarter, too. Classes are discussion-based (usually on philosophy) and he doesn't teach writing specifics (grammar, format, etc.), but gives good feedback. Doug's very approachable and friendly. No textbook. Grade's based on 3 essays, a bunch of weekly questions + 1 optional E.C. paper.
Super easy class and really interesting perspective he takes on. Lectures everyday of the class. No tests or quizzes, just 3 papers. If youre looking for an easy english class thats fun at the same time, i highly reccomend this class.
Had Doug for 101 in addition to 126. Doug's really great, very inspirational. Every week were discussions on music, art, film, and poetry. Watched a few different films in his class. Bc of strike, we only had 2 papers instead of the usual 3 + EC paper. I will truly miss having his class
He is the best teacher I have ever seen in my entire life.
Doug Johnson is the greatest professor everWaco! I've really enjoyed his English 101 & 126. He makes learning interesting and fun. I recommend him to everyone!!
I mean honestly, one of the best English professors I have ever had. He makes class very interesting and engaging! He really seems to care about his students, and loves to hear your views on the Art work you go over. Never be afraid to talk in his class because he will never make you feel dumb, and trust me I hate talking in class for that reason.
Honestly the best professor I've ever had, really respectable on the workload and overall a good person. You won't regret taking this class!
Having Doug Johnson was my overall best experience with any professor at Greenriver. He talks to you like he truly cares and motivates you to become inspired, in addition to which he had very engaging lectutes. I looked forward to going class each day. Definitely go for Johnson if you have the chance.
I've despised school from the day I entered the education system but Professor Johnson proved to me that not all classes are cut-throat boring. The covered material was all very entertaining, and I wish the class never ended. Attendance isn't "required" so much as you will WANT to go to class each day! Easily the best class I've ever taken!
Love him
Amazing class. 3 papers, & I learned so much with each one. Very meaningful class deep rooted in pysch, was perfect prelude to my Psych class the quarter before. I feel really lucky to have him as a Prof, our class became like family very interactive. If you show up, write the papers, a draft first, he will make corrections to do, you will do fine!
I was in Johnsons class 12pm M-F. His class was AMAZING, never a boring day and we always would have good topics to discuss each day. He really gets you to think about how the world works and how people act. There were 3 main papers, weekly questions and an extra credit paper. The environment of the class was comfortable. Loved this class 10/10
Absolutely phenomenal prof. Take his class. He is a tad wild and crazy but amazing at the same time. He makes you look at the world a different way. You have to be able to support anything you say with details. You write 3 papers, weekly journal questions, and participation is your grade. He is an easy grader.
Doug Johnson is the best teacher I have ever had! I took both 101 and 126, and truly wish he taught poetry or classic literature so I could take his class again! His classes are fun, thought provoking and had discussions that challenge and invite opposing opinions. He explores depths of human condition. 126 is a vignette of art, poetry, and film.
Really great instructor. Took his 101 and loved it! Makes you see things differently.
Johnson is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His lectures are so interesting and focus on a variety of topics. Lots of class discussions, 3 papers, and weekly questions. He is really funny and cares a lot about students success. I will totally take another one of his classes.
Best professor I've ever had. Very inspirational, loved showing up to class every day even though I wouldn't have to in order to pass. Grading was lenient. Great guy all around.
Easy A. 4 Papers, (1 is optional and extra credit) and weekly questions. If you don't show up to class your grade will drop but lectures are really about phycology. I don't even understand how this class is English 101. He is a super easy grader and pretty much gives you a 4.0 for having a main idea and no grammar errors.
He is a truly awesome teacher. I struggle with deppression and taking his class helped me find my purpose in life again. He is a total wack job but so so amazing. Would totally take his class again.
Professor Johnson is a really great prof. His lectures make you think and it really changes what you think about life and society. He has his own curriculum so there is no need for a textbook. His grading for essays is pretty easy. A lot of his class is about philosophy but it makes for good essays. I really enjoyed the class and how he lectures
Professor Johnson's English 101 class is super easy; the class is structured around weekly questions and reading (due at the end of the quarter) and three essays, one extra credit essay which is optional. As long as you submit your work and take in his feedback, you will pass. Be ready to talk! Class was based on discussion.
Lots of reading/ answering tests for the weekly questions (please do them weekly, its worth it). Otherwise hes such an amazing teacher ! I understood like maybe a third at most of what the he and the class was discussing (I suck at things related to morality and such) but he was so thoughtful and caring ! Essays are short and easy !
I fell in love with English thanks to him! if you want to see life from a different prospective take his class
Hate English? Take Prof. Johnsons class! He is an amazing teacher! He knows how to engage the whole class. Hell always let you pitch in your thoughts and would never criticise what you think, rather try to see your point. Easy essays and makes you think critically. This class changed my life mentally :)
Every students is confident in his class!
I love his class. He is very inspirational. You can learn a lot in his class.
He makes English so fun. The papers are graded on how you express/apply and interpret ideas talked about in class based on a theme. He doesn't meticulously look over your paper for grammar and actually teaches composition. If you have grammar problems, he will recommend you to go to the Writing Center and you can easily fix your paper.
Loved the class, took him for both 101 and 126. Best teacher I've had ever. He doesn't expect students to have to work to hard, but the class will be a lot more fun if you actually show up and participate. Both classes I took consisted mostly of just sitting around and talking.
Overall, Doug's class started out to be interesting but as the quarter went on he got to be very unorganized. He doesn't use Canvas so it's difficult to do assignments. Classes began to get really repetitive. Make sure to participate, if not the hour goes by extremely slowly. Though the class isn't hard and he's really nice, it was just boring.
Inspirational instructor with interesting and uplifting content! Amazing experience!
The best class ever. The ethics/morality material covered is life-changing ought to be taught much earlier in the schools. You will come away a different person. There are three major papers and extra credit paper and the grading is not very tough. Highly recommended class.
Such an amazing class and teacher. Honestly a life changing class, i still think about his lectures. His teaching style discussion based and he relies on students to push his lecture forward, he cares about what everyone says and lets your voice be heard. Such an awesome class, sad its over. I've recommended this class many times.
I took this class in anticipation of being able to advance my writing proficiency, but it was actually a full on psychology class that centers around the moral sense all of us posses, and how it leads to different group behaviors and individuals decisions. Lectures were truth revealing, definitely worth taking, and I stopped eating chocolate lol.
Don't think too much just choose him you will pass with a good grade.
He was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was a really nice guy, gave insightful feedback, and his class was super interesting. I was disappointed on the days he cancelled class because it was oftentimes the highlight of my day. I wish I could have him as my professor for every class. I highly recommend taking his courses.
Do the weekly questions weekly and youll be fine. This class was always the highlight of my day, it made me think and I definitely learned a lot. Hes probably the best professor Ive ever had, hes interested in what he teaches and genuinely cares about his students. Im really glad I took this class, it was inspiring and had a big impact on me.
Great Professor. Professor Johnson opened my eyes about many things. The class overall is okay. He does tend to get repetitive over the weeks. There is 3 papers and one final and he grades really easy as long as you get the concept and express how you feel. I 100% recommend taking eng 101 with professor johnson
He is a great teacher and knows a lot about psychology. There wasnt much work in the class besides 3 essays and weekly questions. There is also an extra credit essay which is nice. Hes a nice and chill teacher. You should definitely take him if you get the chance! Make sure you participate and be creative in your essays as well.
Loved his class. Hes a VERY lenient grader. I loved his quality over quantity thinking. Helped me pass with a perfect score.
Johnson overall is a great professor, the only critique is that he does tend to ramble about things unrelated to the material on essays. He isn't a harsh grader and his essays are very open ended. Make sure you show up a majority of the time and do the essays and weekly questions due at the end, otherwise you'll probably get a zero
I dont know if other eng 101 classes teach the same material but hands down this is my favourite professor ever grade 1- college. Material is Super thought provoking and completely changes my life view. Favourite class, no textbook, just overall fantastic.
Great teacher. Really made me enjoy English. All the essays were really open ended and fun to write. Would take a class from him again!
all i gotta say is i loved this class honestly. Doug is a really great teacher and is class isnt your typical boring english class and i enjoyed the topics we explored on and he made the 50 mins very funny and interactive!! plus all of his stories are a fun part !! only a couple essays and no textbook needed. please take his class !!
Such a nice teacher. I took the class during coronavirus so the class was made online. Super caring extremely flexible and understanding of all situations. He had 2 essays and 1 extra credit essay and a set of weekly questions. Graded very leniently and his lectures were amazing Don't need to attend class and you can still get an A. Amazing teacher
Took Doug for Engl 101 without an issue. He was an excellent professor with great communication and easy grading. The fact this class was so easily graded made the class so much less stressful. 10/10 would take him again.
This is not an English class, this is a life experience. The topics discussed are not being discussed just for a grade, they are being discussed because doug is going to change your perspective on human morals, society, culture and the state of humanity.
If you're going to talk English101, the experience is that you'll find a seat, sit, and just listen to lectures. You can have the option to take notes, but it's not needed. The class is very "discussion-based" heavy. Sometimes, he will call on random people to give him their opinions and such.
I loved him! He was the best. Even though it was during this pandemic he was great! He was new to the zoom and online grading, but his zoom lectures were very interesting.
This is an amazing professor, I wish I could take more of his classes. While it is an English class there is a lot of psychology involved. He's fun to be around, easy grader, very knowledgeable, and creates a great learning environment. His assignments and lectures are interesting and very engaging. There is a lot of creative freedom.
This class literally combines ELA and Psychology. The lectures that I had were among the best lectures that I have attended. As a professor, he is very good at his job, but a better person when you decide to talk about different topics, such as events happening across the world and their moral implications. Needless to say, take this professor.
Doug is the best professor EVER!!!! I took his English 101 and his lectures were about psychology and morality. We wrote 3 papers total. He gives a prompt for each paper but will allow you to come up with your own as long as it relates to the class. He grades pretty easily and if you're into the papers you write then its an easy A.
He's a very funny person and in class he would always be funny around his students, respects others opinion and is a very kind person. The best part is that we only have to write 3 papers and answer weekly questions, he is not a tough grader and allows us to write open prompts about the class. Definitely an easy A, best professor I had so far!!
Doug was an amazing professor. Definitely the best I've had by far. His lectures are very interesting and make you excited about what you're learning. He's very funny and laid-back and does his best to respond to emails right away. If you have to take English 101, definitely take him!!
Doug is awesome, this class is made up of going to lectures to listen about psychology, then writing 3 papers and answering weekly questions.
His lectures are funny, interesting and he really cares about what he teaches. They're not really mandatory to join but they help. He's a pretty easy grader, as long as you put effort into your papers and use his feedback to make it better. I had him for the online class bc of covid. there are 3 papers and weekly questions +ex cred paper
The format was 3 papers, weekly questions, and optional daily lectures that were recorded. Recommend not attending lecture unless you have a question or you are interested in the topics. He talks on the slow side and recorded lectures can speed up. Very interesting content made essay writing quicker.
He isn't one hundred percent the best on the tech, but he is one of the best teachers. He loves talking with people in the meetings so make sure to do that. Doug is a fun and interesting guy and you can learn a lot from him. We chose to do 3 papers 1250 words for #1 & #2, 1500-1750 words for #3. Weekly questions can be answered mostly by lecture.
Professor Johnson is a great professor. I had him during Covid so we were online but he adjusted the class for that. We had a total of 3 papers plus an opportunity to do an extra credit paper. Would take again!
I loved this class! Its not your typical English class; we learn about morality, animals, psychology, and other really interesting topics. He tells entertaining stories and is always open and honest. All you have to do is weekly questions (covered in lectures) and 3 essays where you can write about whatever as long as it relates to the class.
Best English teacher EVER. He gives great lectures and is caring. He is not a tough grader and will give you an A if you just do the assignment. Attendance and participation is not required. I would take him again as a teacher.
He is the most inspirational professor I have ever had. This is not a regular English class. I you want to improve your writing, this class may not be for you. We learned about things that apply to the real world, and I stayed after class just to continue conversations with him. There were 3 papers, and weekly questions. He is a really easy grader.
Life-Changing
Professor Johnsons class was a mind opener. This was a psychology based English class and I understand so much more about why people are the way now. Easy 4.0 as well. Best English 101 Professor you can ask for.
Absolutely incredible! The best since Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society. Even better, you get him in real life. A solid, compassionate, brilliant teacher. Really more of a philosophy class disguised as an English class but great teaching never the less. I wish he taught all subjects, I'd wait in line to have him again. He needs an award!
Okay, honestly he's a really good professor. Only 3 papers due and a weekly questions assignment. Super friendly and nice, definitely a philosophy class in disguise but it's nothing to worry about. You do have to actually try/work somewhat hard on your essays and you will succeed. I had to improve my writing to get A's on my papers. Overall not bad
Doug is my favorite professor I have had at Green River so far. You know what homework you have to do from day one and while you have to do a bit of work it is easy and interesting work. We got to write about what we wanted and his grading was focused on your ideas and individuality. Put your identity on the paper and you will get a good grade.
Wow. Seriously the best professor I've ever had. Mr. Johnson taught us material that is useful and actually pertains to everyday life. This is the first online class I actually enjoyed. Zoom lectures are recorded but very worth attending. I wish he taught other subjects because I love learning from him. His patience and charisma is one of a kind.
The best professor ever. Very smart, positive and respectful! After his lectures , I changed my mind about life ! Easy and interesting class ! Highly recommended !
His lectures are life changing ! More like a psychology class . I took his class winter 2021 , and had just 2 papers and weekly questions( no test, no final exam) ! Take ,take, take his class !!!!!
He is such a cool teacher, all we did was show up to class and just talk about interesting stuff. Problem is that he doesn't really know how to use Canvass very well and that can get a little confusing. He is a very easy grader and gives basically B or above as long as you do the assignment. It's a very easy class, just make sure you finish work.
Class only had 3 essays total and a extra credit essay which was a life saver. He also has short answer responses for lecture topics due at the end of the quarter which is an easy 100% if you keep up with the questions weekly. Little feedback on essay, and a little bit of a tough grader grammar wise. An east A with the extra credit essay.
Had Prof. Johnson Winter Quarter 2021, I was going through an extremely difficult time during this time and Prof Johnson was very understanding and provided so much help which helped my grade a lot. His lectures are amazing if you're into psychological thinking, definitely expanded my thinking and perspective. He's an amazing professor, best class.
Objectively, his class was very easy workload-wise. He doesn't give much feedback for papers, but they should be an easy pass as long as you get your point across. I'm not really that type of person, so I found his lectures kinda boring, unfortunately. But if you're really into psychology and stuff like that, his lectures are def for you!
He is an amazing teacher. He teaches an intro psych class. He is passionate about what he talks about and it shows with the material. Down to earth guy. There is minimal work with 3 papers, 2 1200 words and one 1500. You also have weekly questions. Just don't procrastinate on it. Your in there for 1 hour a day and its like listening to a podcast.
This class was great. Just have to do the work. Professor is good at communicating, he grades well, and makes the lectures entertaining.
Great professor, he's really enthusiastic about what he teaches. Each week, there was generally about 5 hours worth of lectures and a few short reading assignments. His lectures are very informative and he makes advanced material easy to digest. We only did 3 papers and they were fairly easy. Make sure to keep up with the Weekly Questions.
He is extremely nice and gives very little work. The work is not difficult at all. You write 3 essays a quarter and do 4-6 questions weekly, which are due at the end of the quarter. He is super chill and flexiable. Would take him again for sure.
He is a very nice and chill teacher, the work you get for the quarter consists of 3 essays, 1 extra credit essay, and weekly questions. This is a very easy class for anyone new to college.
He's super fun, yet chill and lectures are really interesting and psychology-based that are daily & recorded. He loves talking to people during lectures and is really understanding. 3 papers, weekly questions (answered by lecture just keep up with them), and extra credit paper. No tests, no quizzes. He's the best and would love to have him again!
Super interesting topics, you will learn a lot about the mind. He knows what he talks about well and talks in a way that is easy to understand as long as you're paying attention. I wish he taught all my English classes.
Great professor, his lectures are very interesting and leave a lasting impression if actually interested in the topic. Topics are interesting and he makes it easy to understand the subject.
Extremely understanding and nice. He isn't really used to canvas so it's a bit confusing- still reasonably understandable though. You only have 4 papers/grades but he's generous at grading and gives extra credit (3 pages worth half a paper). There will be an hour lecture posted everyday along with weekly questions but I honestly quite enjoyed it.
Mr. Johnson is an absolutely wonderful teacher. He was my first ever English teacher and while initially the workload seemed intense, his class structure is set up as more of a longterm goal rather than short term. I learned a lot from him through his passionate lectures, and he is a clear, phenomenal teacher. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
In all honesty he was one of the best professors I've had and made his class very enjoyable. The assignments will all be weekly questions and 3-4 papers which he allowed us to have on open topic on.
He is a great professor, his class topic was heavily focused on philosophy and psychology. His assignments make you think about the readings and lectures taught in class. There will be one to three readings corresponding to the five to seven weekly questions. There were three papers to write and the topics are as long as related to morality.
Mr. Johnson is very open on his class expectations, he will remind you every week if there's anything coming up. This is not a day where he isn't engaging or fun. Overall, very fun class and easy as long as you're willing to put in the effort.
honestly best professor I ever had. Total of four assignments and one extra credit. Very kind and willing to help you. Be prepared for many lectures and weekly questions.
Doug was a great professor, and you can tell he cares about his students. The workload is not a lot, there are weekly questions that are due at the end of the quarter and about three essays the entire quarter. Great class, great teacher!
The video and in person lectures are engaging and interesting. Very light homework. Weekly reading and weekly questions with about 7 lectures a week (if you can) 3 open topic essay through quarter and he is not a tough grader. There is one extra credit essay at the end of the quarter. He is not harsh on due dates and gives lots of extra time.
There are only 3 papers for the whole quarter and he is an easy grader. As long as you somewhat know what you are writing about, you'll get a good score.
One of, if not, the greatest teachers I've ever had. Simply a wonderful person and professor, extremely engaging lectures and memorable topics that will have you personally invested into what he teaches. 3 Papers + course long assignment and is extremely lenient in grading. ABSOLUTELY take his course.
Such an amazing and great professor. During the quarter I had, he was struggling with his wife's passing. But this made his lectures way more inspirational and personable. super easy grader!!! I would recommend him to anyone
Professor Johnson is very understanding and lenient. He provides pre-recorded lectures every day which aren't required to watch, but are very interesting and provides context for your papers. The lectures both in-person and online can be really engaging and interesting. Throughout the quarter, expect about 3 open topic papers and weekly questions.
Prof Johnson was a great professor. There were a total of 3 papers and weekly questions. He provided many lectures, which weren't mandatory to watch, but were fantastic regarding ideas for essays and weekly question answers. His class was psychology based, and he was a lenient and easy grader. Do the work, and you'll get a 4.0! I'd retake his class
Doug is the best professor ever! Take him if you have the chance, I just sat and listened to music and participated when I wanted. He makes you feel accepted. He is one of those teachers that makes a boring class worthwhile!
There were 3 open papers that were nicely spaced out. One of the easiest graders I've had. You could submit a rough draft a week before the final draft for each paper. He would give you feedback to get you to 100%. There was no homework except for weekly questions all due at the end of the quarter and the answers were in the pre-recorded lectures.
Absolutely enjoyed his ENGL 101! He is friendly, respectful, understanding + of great character. There are weekly questions & 3 papers total. Two are open-topic & the last one is a research paper. They all need to be based on his lectures. 7 lectures/week and they are about an hour long, BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM! Secretly a psychology class.
Doug Johnson is an outstanding instructor. He taught things in a clear and understandable way, he made you want to learn more, and is just an overall fun person to be around. All the material is presented at the start of the year, so you know what you will be learning. This is an easy and fun class with minimal effort, 100 percent recommend.
Doug was a great teacher, and very helpful. As long as you keep up with the weekly homework, you should be fine. My only complaint is the lectures were, although very interesting, quite long. However, he's an easy grader. I would 100% recommend anyone that's taking English 101 to take Doug.
Wasn't sure if I was taking a psychology class or not, because that's what all his lectures were focused on. However, they were all very interesting and I learned a lot and he was a cool guy. Only assignments are three papers which he grades VERY lightly, as well as watch 5-7 recorded lectures each week and answer a question for each.
The best professor I've had in GRC so far. The lectures are phycology-based which was honestly super interesting. I learned a lot about psychology and through writing 3 papers and answering weekly questions I also learned about writing in English. Moreover, as a person, Doug is absolutely hilarious, caring, and kind. He is an easy-grader as well.
Mr. Johnson is awesome. There was a paper for every month (3 rough drafts, 2 papers + final paper), and they were entirely open-topic as long as they related to the lectures he has open on his Canvas page. There's also an assignment regarding lecture questions due at the end of the quarter. He's super down to earth & lenient on grading. Superb.
He's an excellent professor, 10/10. Just make sure to do the weekly questions and watch the online lectures, and you'll do well! And if you are into psychology, you will love this class, and if you are not, you will probably be interested in some bits hopefully.
The lecturer was amazing. He did a good job when teaching the lecturers we had which made the work more interesting and made me understand psychology better.
He was a great professor, I loved taking his class, especially coming in as a freshman and new to the whole college inviroment he was very kind and caring. I wish I could take his class again!
Awesome instructor. Take Mr. Doug for 4.0.
Prof. Johnson's class was superb, if you are interested in psychology, his lectures can cover the topic quite well! Homework-wise, there's 3 essays total + weekly questions. The workload isn't heavy whatsoever in my opinion, and Prof. Johnson is very enthusiastic, welcoming and great overall.
Super great class! Very thought provoking.
Really chill guy, make sure to watch the lectures and do the weekly questions. The material is really interesting.
Easiest grader
Grade was determined by 3 papers and a set of weekly questions. Doug was a very lenient grader and a 4.0 was incredibly easy.
The best teacher I've ever had. I think I genuinely came out as a different person after watching his lectures, especially his last ones. Please join his class if you can. It's more of a philosophy and psychology class than it is an English one, but it's one of the best experiences I've ever had. If I could take his class again, I would.
If I could give 10 stars I would. His lectures give amazing insight into the psychological world. He gives 3 papers, another one for extra credit, and weekly questions due at the end of the quarter. I would recommend Prof Johnson over all the English teachers for ENG101. The lectures are extremely interesting!
Good profesor
Amazing professor that truly cares about his students and wants them to leave the class having learned something. 4 Major writing assignments for the quarter which you have lot of freedom over and this class really allows you to be creative. I recommend you go and experience the great lectures. You wont regret taking this class.
If you like psychology/neurology, you'll definitely love this class. Weekly questions about 4-7 per week, some weeks there aren't. Three essay and his grading is SUPER relaxed, there's no rubric, but as long as you put some thought and understanding it's an easy 4.0. lectures were SUPER interesting, lots of interesting stories.
This teacher is the GOAT!! TAKE HIM PLEASE, YOU WILL BE HAPPY IN LIFE. 11/10 PROFESSOR =)
if you want a professor who genuinely wants you to pass and succeed, THEN TAKE DOUG!!! this course isn't too difficult he doesn't give out rubric and his grading is on point meaning if your essay is late he will still give you full credit as long as it isn't plagiarized. Definitely recommend this professor. He gives really good feedback.
Mr. Johnson was an incredible professor. His lectures were interesting and enjoyable to listen too. Only 3 papers and weekly questions, about 4-7 per week. His grading is very light. His lectures genuinely changed my outlook on life and my personal views. 100/10 would take again.
I went to every single one of the lectures. Tbh I could have skipped all of them and still gotten an A because he doesn't teach English. I still went because his lectures are interesting, they are just not quite what you'd expect for an English class. There are only 4 assignments for the entire quarter. Looking for an easy A? Take this class.
Same person as Douglas Johnson. One of my fav teachers and is a really easy grader. He posts really long online lectures but I sped the video up and listened to his lectures while I got ready for the day. Only 3 essays and you get to choose the topics as long as they have something to do w psych or morality.
Doug is a queen I loved his lectures so much keep up with weekly questions or do what i did which was to do all of them at the end finished the class with 100% very easy grader
I genuinely cannot describe how much I adore Doug. He is not only my favorite professor ever, but one of my favorite people. He cares so much about his students and is absolutely hilarious too. His lectures are very fun! Only four assignments that you can choose the topic of. Just don't fall behind on weekly questions and you'll get an easy 4.0!
I absolutely love Professor Johnson! He is the best english teacher I have ever had. There are 4 assignments throughout the whole quarter and they are very easy (3 essays and weekly questions). You get to pick the topic of all of your essays as long as it relates to one of his lectures. His lectures are so interesting and fun to listen to!
Probably the best Eng 101 class you could come across. Having a theme of philosophy and psychology is essential for freshman, as it helps them navigate through their new journey. Listening to his lectures helps me get a better grasp of who I truly am, and narrow down my most suitable path. I regret neglecting the class, but I was given a sec chance
THE BEST PROFESSOR
Professor Johnson's ENG101 is a gem - easy grading, engaging lectures, and just 4 assignments. Leverage tools like Unstuckstudy along with the free textbook to ace this class with minimal effort.
Easiest class. Isn't a typical english and talk more about psychology and the brain which is very engaging and interesting. Weekly questions and only 3 paper. would definitely take again
Professor Johnson is easily the best Green River Professor. His lecture are entertaining and interesting. They consist of psychology philosophy and things of that nature. The hardest part of his class is being consistent with the daily questions given and to not slack off. Hes a caring professor and wants the best for his students.
Can't believe prof. Johnson is still teaching. He's so old, let this man retire! But if he retires, we won't have such a valuable source of thought and information. Changed my mind, never let this man retire. Triple his salary! Silliness aside, most thought-provoking class ever. Other raters said it best, easy workload, great class. Cheers to him!
