Such a relief to hear a math professor say that, for the most part, formulas are unnecessary. As a student who has always relied on my knowledge of basic algebra and logic to get through most math problems, it's a breath of fresh air to hear the same from a professor.

To me Mr. Johson is one of good professors, has a teching teqniques that I like. He likes to explain and show you example this soutes me because I'm a visual learner I can't just look in the book and do questions for ever. In other word Mr.Johnson makes the class intereasting and fun. I like his clas and hope to have him next semester too.

Professor Johnston can be discribed like this (in my opinions: Always energetic talking, very good at drawing attention from students, very clear on explaining any problem, knowing exactly what students need and finally, always care about how students are doing by keeping tracks of online labs and homework.

He's probably the first math teacher I've ever liked. I enjoy being in his class and he makes math interesting. He's a pretty funny guy. I also like it when he takes up assigned homework, because if you had trouble with it he's willing to help you out until you understand it.

This is my 2nd time around taking this course, and I actually understand it now. I dont know how you do it sir, but you are getting math into my head, and somehow making it stay there. Mr. Johnston is a great teacher. He has been very helpful and I have started to actually enjoy math now. He shows us how to solve problems in an efficient way that MAKES SENSE.

This is a good teacher but, the content in relation to the online labs don't seem to connect and the labs are worth a decent chunk of our marks.

The steps used to get an answer should not matter, whether its using the formula or the calculator functions, as long as the steps are shown full marks should be awarded. As is we are using technology as a means to check our work, when we should be using it to get our answers as there is less chance of an error occurring.

I personally feel that Mr. Johnston is one of, if not the best math teacher I've had. Last semester, his remedial classes were more useful to me than my actual teacher. His teaching methods are superior than all the rest. If he teaches semester 3, i'll be there.

Doug cares about his student's success. He provides each student with the tools to succeed and when the students take advantage of the help available, it is reflected in their grades. Work hard, do the homework and ask for help when you need it. Doug takes the math and applies it to Real Life situations. An awesome man, great teacher!

great teacher.... but the way he marks is kind of rediculous... for the assignment.... there was 28 questions... the answers are in the book.... and he takes marks off for not stapling it and for missing a question.... each question you loose 1 mark.... and it was in total out of 5.... it sucked even more when he said the quiz after it was worth ha

Prior to attending Mohawk, i hated math. I was sure that i sucked at it and there was no hope for me. Mr johnston changed all of that. he really cares about all of his students. he is like the college dad! he helps in anyway possible as long as you help yourself. he is a wonderful teacher and i have the utmost respect for him as a person.

i was never a fan of math, but doug is able to explain things with a lot of clarity so it's easy to understand. he's always available to help his students and puts a lot of effort into helping his students be successful. great teacher!

Has a fun and practical approach to teaching and implementing Math. His explanations are clear and concise. However, his job is made slightly more difficult with a ridiculous math textbook filled with wrong check answers at the end! Having incorrect answers in your math textbook is like having an English grammar book written in incorrect grammar.

Doug Johnston teaches very well and he obviously knows his stuff. His lessons are fast-paced but easy to follow if you do the work he assigns and pay attention.

I have never liked Math or was interested in it but right from the beginning he got us to get over that fear. Very stubborn marker but best math teacher nonetheless. Don't miss his classes because they are informative. I LOVE that he doesn't bother answering annoying questions from stupid students- its very bothersome.

You go to fast when teaching new material in class. It is also disruptive when you give us a problem to solve in class and students begin to yell out their answers and them we do not get enought time to work on the math problem.

Great Prof. The chart method works really well, and it's good to finally understand math. I went from getting low 70's to a 97%! Explains all of the material and offers help whenever it is needed. Definitely recommended for all first year students, or anyone in math. Good job Mr. Jonhston

The ways you teach a more complicated math in simplistic form is very enjoyable. I believe the quizzes shouldn?t have common mistakes as answers causing a student to second guess their answers. :)

To be honest, although I was interested in taking business, I was dreading math. In high school, I got low grades in math. But, because Mr. Johnston is an AWESOME professor, my grades and understanding of math have increased drastically. He is extremely helpful, and intelligent. great teacher at Mohawk! keeps class involved in lectures and i find the class goes very fast but its suprising how much you can learn in a such a short amount of time.especially since i wasnt very good with mathematics at first and have now improved noticeably since semester start.

I really enjoy coming to your class. I have always excelled in math and I'm finding even after 10 years of not doing any formal math I have the same marks if not better. Success is proportioned to your effort but I also find a good instructor makes it that much easier to excel.

Listen up in class and you'll learn alot from him talk through his class and you may as well stand outside because there is plenty you are missing and probably plenty you are causing the rest to miss. My only downfall is class time is meant for learning your not happy with how people behave in your class give them a warning then show them the door.

I enjoy your teaching style, very clear and consice. You seems to be like a very tough guy but you are like a honey candy, vey hard outside but sweet inside. Your chart method extremely helpul.Your colorful shirts bring a little of floridian climate to our cold weather Your strong voice intimidating but always find a way to help students to succes

A professor who makes mathematics very simple..like to attend his classes for the next semester also.

Mr. Johnston is a real "teacher" not just a guy who knows about math and is just doing a job. Fantastic prof.

Mr Johnston is very friendly. He's always willing to help after class if you need it. His examples are REAL - my father is in finances and familiar in the "real world" with the math that we're learning.

Best teacher ever had

Doug is very concious of the level to which his students are grasping the concepts being presented and is prepared to go to any length to help those who are having difficulty.

I would have to say you have been the best teacher i have had :) the only thing that i must say i now HATE by the end of this course is your time lines. They helped for the first half, but not so much in the second!! other wise all around great teacher :)

Doug is the best math teacher that i've ever had. I chose my second semester block based on teh block that he thought math in. He is the best teacher, at Mohawk College, that I`ve had thus far.

3rd sem. acct student here. Doug is by far the best math prof at the college. His lectures are fun and easy to follow. Do not miss them! Also, always do the homework. He is an amazing teacher. He gives you all the tools, you just need to apply yourself. I wish I could have him for all my terms at the college. Thank you Doug, you are the best.

good math teacher

I thought my Johnston was very organized and had well thought through lessons. I also found his enthusiasm for elearn very refreshing and used it often. I appreciated all the time and effort he put into keeping it up to date. Overall, a very positive experience :)

Mr. Johnston is honestly quite a fabulous teacher; even if some concepts may be difficult at first, he does as best as he can to explain it clearly and be available to help any and all students through it, whatever their issue may be; which, is as much as you can really ask for. Overall, an excellent teacher with an excellent personality.

You can tell he genuinely cares about students passing. He gives you the tools to pass, you just need to apply them. He's organized and professional, but still fun! His lessons take some getting used to because they aren't long and full of examples. If you just ask, he will explain more in depth to help you understand. Fantastic teacher!

Doug Johnston is a great teacher! He takes time to make sure we understand and always encourages questions. There's no need for 15 examples; that's what homework is for. He's made it very clear where we can get help if we need it. Doug is the kind of teacher you hope for and one who makes a positive impact on your education.

Doug Jonhston, in all honesty, has to be the best teacher here at the College. The amount of time and effort he puts into his position is almost at the point of being ludicrous. He is always available to help, whenever you need it and he tries his best to make you understand the material. Best teacher at the College, deserves a raise! :p

Couldn't of been a better teacher. Sadden to hear he will be retiring. Very lucky to have learned under him. Enjoyed his classes very much. Fantastic teacher!!! I was never a fan of math and I don't plan on becoming one anytime soon but Doug made a world of difference!!! He was so helpful and he really cared about us! I learned so much from him including valuable life lessons! Thanks so much Doug! next yrs math students will miss out on a great prof! happy retirement!

Sometimes I felt very rushed in class but found Doug to be available almost anytime of the day to help for anything.If he is retiring, he will definitely be missed. His commitment to his students is exceptional as is his commitment to the usage of the Mohawk website. If only other could follow his footsteps, it would help a lot more students.

I had Doug many years ago at Mohawk Saltfleet Campus. He was a fabulous math teacher, but more importantly, he was the first person ever to open my eyes to the possibility of going to university. With that nudge, I went on to university and got my degrees. He was a major impact in my life, and I am eternally grateful.
