He was a very nice man and took his time to help out his students...loves quantitative methods...likes philosophers and human rights issues
Excellent...smart, nice, funny. An actual human, not a stuck up prof. Takes time out to help, gets to know his students. Grades fairly/easily. Teaches justice, but if you want to suck up his true love is sociology.
Awesome prof, always has time for his students, engaging style. Numerous classes with him, and always learned a lot with no problems.
Having bested the rigours of law school, I can still say that Doug is one of the best 2 or 3 professors I have ever had.
DOug knows what he is talking about, but sometimes needs to ligten up.
Very good prof. Very clear in his explaination and usually gives goood examples. Funny at times, always willing to give you hints on exams.
He's an awesome guy. You can tell that he wants the best for the students and the program. Really approachable, however he does tend to linger on subjects too long sometimes.
dougie! what can i say about doug, he's a great man! loves his students and wants you to do well, interesting lectures and informative review, passionate about what he teaches you, best head of the department ever, too bad he's on a 15 month study leave, if you can take anything with him when he comes back, fabulous guy
He is a great guy. He makes the class fun because he has such a great personality. I love it when he teases certain people about some of their stupid answers. He never goes too far with that because he allows himself not to take himself too seriously. He often would tell the class that he likes to dress up in pink dresses and screw goats! lol
awesome
Doug is an awesome teacher! I was really dreading taking 3301 as it sounded boring, but I have learned so much from Doug, and he made the classes very interesting. He is quick to return e-mails and marks which is very helpful. I look forward to taking more of his classes.
Doug is a great prof. He has a unique way of teaching that makes dry crim concepts relate to the real world. Really approachable and nice. Goes out of his way to work with students about their studies and careers. Best prof I have had.
Great prof. Very nice man. He is extremely helpful and taked pride in his students understanding and development. I would suggest his classes. Fair grader but you must do they work and put time and effort into it.
Best class ever. Every week, I learn something new. Doug is smart and prepared. His lectures are always interesting. He really cares about how well we do.
Doug King makes this class interesting. His lectures make me see things in a new way. I hope to take more classes from him!
This was a great class. Doug is a very good teacher. He can be a bit weird sometimes but is always ready to help us learn. He answers his emails and takes time to read our papers once before grading them. I'm going to take more of his classes.
brilliant class and doug is the best in the justice department. i learned something new every week - only class i really looked forward to attending. take this class for doug!
Wow, the semster has just started and this is already an amazing class. Doug explains dry crim theories in a way I can understand them - enjoyable class. The guy has a strange sense of humor that adds to a 8:00 am class.
Makes crim theory interesting especially for a 8L00 am calss.
Best instructor ever!!! Doug is always interesting and prepared. He has a warped sense of humor which always makes this fun. Take any class he teaches.
Yeaaa 8am class was so brutal, but I somehow made it every week and was glad I did. Doug was awesome, definitely taking Human rights with him in the Fall. He was straightforward, told you exactly what he wanted on papers/exams. Also, take home midterm and final!!
Doug is probably my favourite professor at the university. He is very passionate about what he teaches and explains things very clearly. He doesn't rush when teaching the material and gives plenty of examples. The 3 hours class seemed to go by quickly.
What can I say. He's the prof that I actually don't mind bumping into in the hallway. His humor is hilarious and very dry! He makes the content interesting, he actually remembers me, he's very clear on what he expects, and his classes are just overall very interesting. Fav prof hands down.
Doug is just wonderful. He is helpful, consistant, friendly, intelligent. The whole package when it comes to a great professor!
I never had Doug as a prof before but his reputation was good. He lives up to it. The Human Rights class was fascinating because of Doug. He know alot, teaches better than any prof I know, is approachable and helpful. His humor is great. My advice - take any class Doug teaches
Doug is extremely knowledgeable about course content and is extremely approachable. I was dreading a research methods course but he made it effortless with down-to-earth instruction and clear explanations. Please take a course with Doug- he was great.
Best prof ever. There are no words to describe Doug, cause he is just that awesome. His humor is also a bonus to every class and you cannot help but laugh at his antics. I've learnt more in his classes than all CRJS classes combined.
Best lecturer I've ever had. Keeps lectures fluid and interesting, providing clear instruction.
This course has helped me see the world in a different way! Who knew that the Charter could be so interesting. Doug's teaching style is so impressive - best prof I have had in my 4 years. I enjoyed going to class and I even liked doing the assignments, especially the case briefs. Take any class you can from Doug. He is MRU's best prof.
An absolutely amazing professor (my favourite) and person. I would recommend him for any class within Criminal Justice. I learnt so much for him! Highly recommend!
This is a great class. Doug's lectures are always interesting and I come away with something new each time. Doug is approachable. He helps students understand and succeed. He is such a nice person as well
I hated the idea of a 8:00 am class but I look forward to this class. I'm learning so much about rights and the Charter. Doug teaches like no one else I know. He knows so much and explains everything so well. He lets us submit drafts of assignments for feedback. Doug has a weird sense of humor that always livens up a class. Smartest guy I know.
Doug is a fantastic professor. He does not use lecture slides, but instead his classes are like a conversation. He gives detailed notes and is very concise. I recommend attending each class and take notes! He gives great feedback if you email a copy of your work early. Love, love, love taking his classes!
This is the first class I have had with Doug but I had heard he was good. He wasn't good but GREAT! best class I have had in my 4 years in criminal justice. Doug teaches better than any professor I have had. He is clear, funny, helpful and he cares about how well student do. I learned something new in each class.
This is the second online class I have taken from Doug. These are really good because the material is well presented and Doug is alway ready to help.
I wish all the profs in the department were like Doug. He answers his emails fast and wants students to do well. He is available during office hours (some prof don't even have office hours). His online class was presented well and he works with students to help them do well.
his was a real interesting and fun class and i learned lost of new things. the prof is alway prepared and his lectures are interesting. doug is so helpful with the assignments.
Best class best prof EVER! I intend on going to law school and this class more than any other helped me get ready. The case brief assignments were interesting and Doug pushed us to do better in each one. Doug is without a doubt the best justice faculty.
Let the reviews speak for themselves. His dedication to his students is unbelievable. He is not even comparable to the other profs in the department. He's a little quirky, but I think it has everything to do with his intelligence. You do need to work for your grade, he doesn't just give A's away. Take ANY class with him. Do it! You won't regret it
I took King's criminal law course this semester. I learned a lot about how complex the criminal code is and what needs to be proven in a court. Doug's lectures are packed with information but he uses crazy examples to make you understand. Good class and even better prof.
okay this is going to sound crazy. I just finished the hardest exam I have done in my 4 years. King's final had us be on the supreme court and decide the assiste suicide case current before the course. Took forever but I really liked doing it. King is an amazing prof. Great lectures, always willing to help. If you haven't had a class from him ithe
This was a goo class and very nice professor. I want to become a police officer so this class was very interesting for me. Prof King is so smart but makes things easy to understand. I hope to have him again real soon.
Another crim theory class :( but King makes it tolerable. Lots of assignments but we get them back fast. King lets you submit things early for review which really helps my grades.
This was a fun class. I like that we talked about a different topic each week. It kept things interesting. No textbook helps.
I really enjoyed this class. Doug works so hard and is always prepared. I want to go to law school and this class helped me understand how Charter decisions are made. The midterm and final exams are lots of work for sure.
This was my favorite class. Doug made my first semester at university. He helped me with my essay and classes are always interesting.
I really like Doug as a teacher. His lectures are clear and he can really get into the material. It takes awhile to figure out when he is joking. His takehome exams will kill you.
This is the first time I've taken an online class and it was great! Doug laid the content out nicely and the workload wasn't overly heavy. The midterm and final are quite a lot of writing but you'll most likely run out of pages as you will have learned a lot of content. I'd recommend taking advantage of opportunities to submit papers for review.
Doug made this online course a positive experience. VERY willing to give feedback.
Doug is by far one of the best profs at MRU. He not only genuinely cares about his students but also teaches material very effectively. He comes up with creative and thought provoking assignments and creates exams that actually test your knowledge and not memorization skills. I would take Doug as many times as I can!!!
Doug is one of, if not the best, prof in CJ. His content is always explained and you are given every single thing you need to complete your assignments. He marks fairly and gives good feedback. He allows you to submit assignments early and hell check them over. Highly highly recommend!!
When I talk about my classes at Mount Royal, I always talk about doug. he is so freakin smart but has a great way of making sense. I took PLSC 2243 before taking this class and I learned so much more about the Charter and Supreme Court decsions from doug than in PLSC 2243. His assignments are lots of work but I really learned a lot
This is the first course I took from Doug and he lived up to his reputation. He doen't use Powerpoint so you are forced to listen and think in the lecture. we covered so much material this class but I really have learned alot. The midterm exam was a bit too much but I loved doing the journals. The class handouts are great.
Doug is one of the best profs I've had yet. He gives clear examples to back up the lecture material and is very helpful if you don't understand. He replies instantly to emails and really wants his students to succeed. I would recommend this prof to anyone wanting to learn something new every class.
Doug was my honours supervisor this year. He was very helpful with my whole thesis. He helped me refine my topic, find resources and writing the final thesis itself. His encouragement and willingness to meet whenever I needed was so supportive. Thanks Doug!
Quite simply, Doug is the most impressive professor in criminal justice. He is very intelligent and teaches like no other prof I know. He breaks down complex topics like Charter rights so you can understand them, Doug is also a very kind man who is very generous with his time - he works hard so you do well. Take any class Doug teaches!
I graduated with my BA 4 years ago and just finished my law degree. I can add that Doug is a superior professor compared to those at law school. I have not found another prof who can give lecture on such a wide array of topics with such obvious command of the material (and without notes!). His feedback on assignments is superior to any other prof.
Doug is a true teacher. He is willing to take as much time as needed in order to help students learn the concepts. He wants you to succeed and is willing to help you do so. Take advantage of his help. If you do, not only will you do well, you will know the material for life. He does not use pwr pt, so class attendance is essential.
I took Diversity and the Justice System for Doug this term. It was a really good class because Doug made us understand how race, gender, age and sexual orientation impact on the justice system. Doug's lectures are always interesting and the handouts really helped. The research paper was hard but Doug read over drafts and helped a lot.
i took crjs 1003 in spring and Doug turned out to be amazing, he is passionate about his lectures and enjoys teaching. he is very understanding and would love to help when he can. he is an easy marker and gives hints about the midterm and final. absolutely respectful of students opinions and open mined. would love to take another course with him.
Doug was my Honours supervisor and was alot of help and support. He made sure I was on track and always directed me to good resources. Doug always has alot of students to supervise but we all got great advice and support. My final thesis is something I am very proud to show others and helpd me get into law school.
Hands down one of the best profs I've ever taken. He's super helpful, gives great feedback, is willing to work with you outside of class, understands when life happens, a super kind adorable man and a knowledgable prof about a vast majority of crim topics.
Doug King is a gem of a professor. If you are taking Criminal Justice at Mount Royal University, you will quickly learn that Doug King is an invaluable resource! This is a professor with real life skills, who allows you to really exceed and grow as an individual. He is a supportive professor. He is the same for all of his classes. Take him!!!!!!!!
Doug is THE best professor in the CJRS program at MRU. He is such a kind person and you can tell that he cares so much for all of his students. Every concept he explains is done so clearly and makes me passionate about topics I didn't even know I could be passionate about. I could not talk him up enough, take as many classes with him as you can!!
Doug is probably one of the best crim profs you could have. He does not just recite the textbook or read off of a powerpoint while offering some side notes. He actually teaches. Provides unique examples and insights into the material. While the material is kind of dry, Doug keeps things interesting. Take him for as many classes as you can!!
Doug is by far the best professor at MRU I have ever had, especially in the Criminal Justice program. He is very well respected by both students and faculty members. He does not read straight off of powerpoint slides, rather he utilizes handouts (EXTREMELY HELPFUL) and actually teaches students. He makes you want to come to every lecture! TAKE HIM
Best prof yet. I look forward to every class.
Doug is an amazing prof, he cares about his students so much, gives great feedback and checks assignments before they are due, and is a fair marker. The content of the course can be confusing but Doug does a really good job explaining it and he provides great examples and stories. Make sure you take this class with him!!
Honestly, Doug is a real gem. He gives consistent feedback that actually helps you learn about the material. He marks fairly and always tells you exactly what you were missing, this makes his marking super useful - as opposed to just being told "no, you're wrong". Lectures were clear and well planned the entire semester. Would recommend him!
Doug is the lord and saviour of the CRJS program. Take as many classes with him as possible and you will make the most out of your degree. He is extremely qualified and knows what he is talking about. He cares for his students and does what he can to support them. Marks fair and gives great feedback. You will not regret taking a class with him
This will be Doug King's 69th 5-Star-Review ;). Doug is an absolute legend! He is so inspirational and has a deep understanding of the bigger picture when we look at the Canadian Criminal Justice System. When you learn from Doug, you are gaining a life-long lesson. He is more than just a Professor in my books, he's a messenger.
There is a reason Doug has so many ratings with people singing his praises, and that is because he is truly a phenomenal professor. In theory, you can do fine in his classes without ever attending as he provides excellent course materials. However he is so good that missing out on lectures feels disappointing. Doug is THE GOAT
Doug truly knows how to teach. His lectures run the full time, but they are so insightful and engaging. He is a caring prof and always does his best to help his students succeed. He treats students like equals and does not portray any sort of power imbalance. I encourage everyone to take as many classes with him as possible! He also marks easy.
Overall one of the best professors I have had. His work is outlined clearly and is easy to keep track of. There is a lot of time to get it done and the results come back quick.
"Dastardly Doug" is my absolute favourite professor. His lectures are so entertaining and he gives out printed booklets every class with great notes. He is accessible and absolutely hilarious and keeps you engaged. Never a boring moment with him!
The class may sound boring but this was one of my favourite classes of the degree. Doug is so passionate about the Charter and that shows in his lectures. He makes the concepts super easy to understand and gives great feedback on the assignments. This was a class that I hated to miss even though attendance wasn't mandatory
One of the best professors of my entire degree!! Very knowledgeable. I feel like you don't NEED to buy the textbooks he requires though. Always accessible to his students and a very fair marker.
Easily the best prof in this degree. You can tell how passionate he is about Restorative Justice and helping his students succeed. If I could have taken every course with him, I would have. Not to mention the content for this class was super interesting. It really opens your eyes to an alternative method of justice and how successful it could be
**CRJS 1013 Doug is the best prof. He is so passionate and loves to teach. He really wants the best for all of his students, and understand when some lecture topics are subpar but tries his best to move through it. He is there to help everyone succeed and is also very funny.
Review for CRJS 1010: He's going to read this but obviously Doug is amazing nonetheless! Very self aware of when his lecture content can be engaging or boring. He always provides examples for concepts and has relevance to what he teaches. His early review opportunity is the lottery, take it or you won't win! Doug's feedback is always clear!
CRJS 1010* (new course) I'm aware Doug will read this, so hello! While this was a new course being taught Winter 2024, it was extremely well put together. There are four major projects that weigh quite heavily, however, the tests are open book. Doug is a charismatic and caring professor. Do not be scared to take advantage of his knowledge to excel
DOUG KING WAS AMAZING. I would highly recommend taking any course with him. He makes 8AM lectures interesting and fun. This course included 2 case brief summaries, a midterm and final. He truly cares about giving good feedback, and his grading is very reasonable. Overall a caring and hilarious guy!!
I don't know if I need to leave another excellent review but I will because Doug is the best prof in MRU! His lectures are very engaging, stimulating, relevant to our degree, and easy enough to understand and do the assignments. I always look forward to it even if it's 8am, snowing, hailing, etc. He makes every minute of my time worth it. THE BEST!
If you can take Doug for any course, do it. I have been in post secondary now for 5 years, and I can say for certain that Doug is the best professor I have had to date. He takes something as dry as case law and makes the lecture into a masterpiece, keeping us engaged the entire time. Someone get this man a statue, he is the reason to attend @ MRU.
One of my favourite crim profs. I've had Doug for a few classes and like the way he teaches. Class was open book midterm, he gave us most of the questions before, the final is a take home final too which is really nice. All of the class work we had we could do early review which almost guarantees you an A. Great with replying to emails quickly too!
Amazing prof, gives lots of chances to boost your grade through early review. Tests are longer but open book. Loved his class, learnt a lot from him!
It was my first time taking his class and its definitely a different experience. It could also just be me but my ADHD could not keep up with a lot of his tangents. He does have helpful early review but I wish it was more constructive rather than general (he does have a lot to go through so I didn't mind)
Might seem intimidating but is honestly one of the sweetest guys once you see him a few times! Super understanding and makes the course less daunting with his weekly handouts and excellent directions for assignments! Everything is posted on d2l so if you miss a class do not worry!
Doug is one of the best professors at MRU he is very clear on his expectations for assignments and provides really good feedback. He truly cares about his students and wants to see you succeed in his classes. He is also very accommodating when it comes to extensions if you give him lots of notice. I would take as many classes with him as possible
Doug was my honours supervisor back in 2018 and I still think of him often and credit him for being the reason I made it through my thesis and graduated on time during a very personally tough year. He is the most understanding, kind and compassionate professor I ever had at MRU. Truly the person I learned the most from in 4 years.
10/10 should be our prime minister very insightful.
This professor has declared his opinion on the Tim's Horton's hiring procedures. Making it an ideological discussion versus employees can not speak fluent English, and so it is our problem not Tim Hortons. Where are the can't caucasian employees that require summer jobs?
