ATSC 113 had so many assignments and enough information to span three courses, but it is very well laid out. On top of this, Doug is very accessible via email and responds super quick! You must pass the final to pass the course (which is the hardest part)--the final exam average was 66% while the class average was 85%.

I took distance education for this course. While the course may be somewhat easy and the syllabus and grading were clear, the professor itself was not helpful, I often get dismissive emails when I ask for help. I always ask the TA's instead of him because I feel like they are more approachable. Other than that, this course is very flexible.

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. This professor is one of the worst I've had at UBC. Paid thousands to teach myself his material and poorly written. Half of the stuff doesn't make sense, and he tells more stories in the notes than material. Congrats on doug for finessing ubc to pay him, when he teaches nothing. Id rather noose myself than take this again.

Doug McCollor, not a legend. Final worth 45% of grade, pass/fail. fail the final, every assignment you did for hours? BYE! The website for the course content? Absolutely DREADFUL. You're better off going to Sunday Service with Kanye West and celebrating Mose's parting of the Red Sea than try to understand how ocean currents work in this course

There are multiple quizzes due every week. It's great because if you happen to miss a few quizzes here and there, it won't affect your grade too much. It's not so great because it gets exhausting being quizzed on all the material every single week. The knowledge quizzes are easy to do, but the scenarios and reasoning quizzes are really difficult.

Highly recommended for outdoor sports lovers, you could really apply stuff to your sports, literally any outdoor sports, but with heavy reading. Many quizzes, average of 5 questions, usually all quizzes finish in 20-30mins after FULLY reading the contents. P.S. can't believe ppl are failing an open book exam basically ONLY asks about definitions.

Those weekly quizzes is dreadful and readings are too long!!! Multiple quizzes are taken per week and you pretty much have to teach yourself. The content isn't too hard but is very time consuming. Don't take this course on less you really enjoy the topic.

I am double majoring in sociology and anthropology so I'm used to reading...however, this class is ridiculous. The content itself is somewhat easy to understand, but the sheer amount of it makes me want to throw my laptop out of a window. Doug seems very knowledgeable and nice enough, but that's just not enough for me to give this class above a 1.

So much, so much, so much, so much to read. Contents are not too difficult, but there are A LOT A LOT A LOT. Cumulative final exam, have to pass 50% to pass the course, but you get to bring a cheat sheet. Multiple quizzes each week, not too hard, but annoying.

He uses a website and content from 20 years ago and it is all so dated, evident that he hasn't redone any of his material since before I was born. The final is pass/fail so make sure you retain some info over the term. He was also quite rude over email when I reaches out regarding my final grade, which just made this class more frustrating.

impressive they made such interesting content boring. If all you care about is the science req + your gpa you could probably get 85+ with ~1.5hr/week by having the learning goals up on a 2nd monitor while doing the quizzes, then study for a couple days and make a good cheat sheet (or find one online) for the final but you probably wont have fun

WARNING NOT TO TAKE THIS CLASS!! I really enjoyed the content but boy is he rude in his emails. I didn't care much that it was a pass/fail exam but once I saw the exam it was horrid. 90q in 90 min is absurd. The TA's started giving out the exams/bubble sheets AT the 90 min mark which means that some people started at 85/80 min. Please do not take.

Amazing Prof! All course material was online based aside from the final exam which took place in-person. Dr. McCollor is a very respectful prof with great insight and knowledge on applied meterology. Although, I would not recommend the class as a grade booster since there is a lot of work that you have to keep up with.

They supposedly made this course harder in recent years, but it's still by far the easiest course I've taken in a long time. I find the content interesting, feels like browsing wikipedia late at night. At most 2 hours of work per week and no lectures. Not sure why people are complaining. Haven't personally talked to the prof but he seems friendly.

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! Too much homework; because I registered late, I had to write more than 20 assignments (mostly quizzes) in 2 days! Although he claims no prerequisite need, but no time for you to learn basic knowledge at all. You need to understand 20 complex concepts in a week! Don't do it during summer, you won't be able to catch up!

Used videos to mainly explain a lot of his slides, rushed a lot of points throughout lecture, there are 3 midterms and a final worth 45% of your grade. Good part about this class is that midterms have a group component of the same questions in the individual portion. DO NOT take if you want a GPA booster or science credit.

He is a terrible teacher who does not really teach. He uses youtube videos to teach. His powerpoint slides are wordy and most of the time he does not have enough time to go into depth and rushes over the slides. This class is run by many teachers but he is by far the worst.

He's a nice guy but teaching is just not his thing. He can't explain the concepts other than just reading off the slide. Just read the slides on your own with the help of that free textbook, if you can view the recorded lectures from previous years through someone who took this course online, do that, things would make so much more sense.

Definitely a hefty reading course but can be enjoyable. He seems a bit distant (partially due to the online nature) but welcomed more questions and zoom office hours near the end of the term. His midterms and tests are reasonable (mostly accurate to the learning goals he posts) and the quizzes are mostly easy to score decently.

If you're reading this while debating if you should take it or not answer these questions: 1. Are you okay with purely reading? No lecture, no recordings, just straight reading (hundreds of pages). 2. Do you want to take ~15 small quizzes per week? 3. Are you EXTREMELY passionate about meteorology?

He's nice but shows too many youtube vids, has incredibly dense slides, inevitably runs out of time to actually explain anything.
