This guy is flat out the best math teacher you will ever have

Doug is the BEST Math teach Whatcom has to offer... I get anxious every quarter that the class is going to fill up before I get to register... TAKE THIS CLASS if you can..he's VERY funny.

AWESOME! Doug even held additional study sessions after class, he's always willing to help students. Plus he's entertaining and strives to make math fun.

For the math-impaired, Doug is a lifesaver. If you need 97, 98, 99, TAKE DOUG. Sometimes hard, always fair. I'm dyslexic/dyscalculic, and I got so much out of 97 and from Doug. Take advantage of his office hours and the pre-test reviews.

Excellent teacher. All the material can be learned from the lectures without ever having to read the text. The tests directly reflect the homework. A warning to prospective UW students: look at this site before geting stuck with a lousy prof, expecially if you take advanced calc. I wish I had.

Doug Moores is awesome. I hated math and sucked at it before I had him as a professor. His teaching style is great, I was never bored in his classes and was sad when I couldn't take him for my precalc class. Best teacher ever.

Ok, I know calc is not supposed to be fun, but I really enjoyed this class. Doug is very knowledgable and he teaches a class that is very concise, focused and easy to understand. He really cares about his students and will go out of his way to help you. Highly recomended!

mr. moors is AWESOME! his lectures cover all the material, he moves at a comfortable but effective pace, he's helpful, friendly, practice tests are a REALLY awesome (and easy) way to study, and random homework checks are low stress. i would highly recommend mr. moors for any math class he offers.

Really clear and obviously passionate about the subject

Doug is the about the coolest teacher in the world! He's helpful, hysterical, and just plain entertaining. He actually made me like coming to class because he was that cool.

I've had Doug for 3 previous classes as well as this one. I can say with certainty that he is the best mathematics teacher on the planet. He is an uber math genius who also is an expert at teaching. Most math teachers are one or the other. I can't say enough good about Doug Mooers.

Doug is an incredible teacher. I was barely getting C's in the other math classes, and was struggling, but with Doug as my teacher, I found algebra interesting, even fun at times, and managed to pull a B in this class. If he was teaching 130 Winter I would take it just to experience his class again! FABULOUS!

We have all seen the movies about those rare heroic and noble teachers. Mr. Mooers is the REAL thing. He is simply the most outstanding teacher I've encountered in my lifetime. Yes, his lectures are fluid, clear, and (if you're lucky), you'll also get some extra cheese. In short, I gained something beyond just the math from Mr. Mooer's classes.

Great teacher, he knows his subject inside and out and can teach it a variety of ways to ensure everyone understands. Attendance is not mandatory but random homework checks make it dangerous to skip class or skip a homework assignment. A tough class but you WILL be given every opportunity to master the subject matter in a highly entertaining way.

Good teacher. Very funny. Randomly starts talking in another language if the class isn't paying attention. He does random hmwk checks and you can't skip any steps on the test. I lost 3 out of 5 points on one problem cause I didn't show all my work. Even though I got the answer right! Overall a good teacher, but not the easiest.

I was one of the top students in the class, but I enjoyed it. He was very available for help and explained clearly. Gives very similar example problems in advance for all tests and even the final! If you can do these well you have mastered the tests!

You have to work for your grade and pay attention, but its very easy to pay attention because of all the fun jokes. checks homeowork which is a good thing.

Great prof! Makes the subject understandable. He will help out with questions in anyway that he can. His classes aren't easy but they aren't terribly hard either. Doing your hw is big, definitely helps when test time comes. Don't underestimate learning the the reason behind formulas... easier to "memorize" without having to memorize them.

Best Math Instructor I ever had. High school was a joke compared to his class. He couldn't explain things any clearer. Doug is hillarious. A lot of his jokes are cheesy, but you still get a laugh out of them. I couldn't recommend him enough. If you want an excelent Math teacher, take his class.

Great Teacher but unrelenting when it comes to showing all work HIS WAY. I lost three out of five points on most tests because I arrived at the correct answer without the work being clear enough for him to understand how I got the answer right..

Great teacher who seems to really care about student success. The study guides for exams are very helpful and expectations are clear. He is a picky grader, so pay attention to details. If you do the work and show up to class, you should do well.

Excellent teacher. i took him almost three quarters ago and i still think he is one of the greatest teachers ever. His teaching skills are excellent, he is very clear and helpful. Some people say he goes too fast, i disagree. If he goes fast, you could tell him and he slows down and explains it again. His practice tests are very helpful too.

Doug is the reason I have gone on in math. He is so clear and dedicated. I think he cares more about sutdents education than the students! I would say he almost takes too much responsibility on himself. He has continuously been helpful to me with good sound advice and its been months since Ive been in one of his classes. This prof is really awesome. He wants to make sure everyone has the chance to excel. Very silly at just the right times. U should do all the (minimal, in my experience) homework and utilize his office hours for whatever u are not getting. Will have a study session with a group before the test. Not an easy A, but u can do it if u really try.

What a fun class! Moores makes math entertaining and exciting, not to mention easy to understand. He asks that you do a small amount of homework each night and regularly holds class over the time limit, but despite this, he is one of my very favorite professors at Whatcom.

Mr. Mooers is awesome! He is so clear and easy to understand. You have homework, but its not a lot of busy work like in most classes. I wish I could take him for the rest of my math classes.

It took me two years to realize how amazing Mooers' class was. I had it at 8:00 M-F and went every day. Now, at UW, I skip my 8:30 & 9:30 lectures. He's that good. Go for the fun, the thoroughness, the focus on student learning (he actually notices this), but definitely go. You will enjoy this class no matter what time it meets at.

Doug does a really good job teaching this class. Granted the material is hard to understand sometime. He does a great job making sure you understand it and he want to make sure that you pass the class. Never having been mathematically competent, I was relieved to discover Professor, Doug Mooers. He is not only the BEST Math teacher I have EVER known, he is simply, one of the BEST TEACHERS I've EVER experienced. He goes to GREAT LENGTHS to ensure his students success. Additionally, Math 121 is absolutely fascinating and a highly recommended class.

This was a great class, hadn't taken math in awhile, but the way it presented here was great even though the humor was corny it made it fun to go to class. Good combination of group work and in class work. It was a great way to be reintroduced to math, and I hope to continue on to Math 098 with him.

Doug is the man!!!!!!! He cares that you learn the stuff, wants and whole heartily believes that you can learn the stuff and will use any example he can think of to help you under stand. I took 99 and 141 from him and im taking him again for 142 and as long as he is teaching i will be taking his classes

I'm seeing a general pattern here. Math 141 and below. That's below 141 he is a great teacher. 142 and above not so much. I don't know if it's because the material is more difficult or what? I think he's good. Needs to slow down some times but still good. Show up, take notes, do the homework and ask questions. You'll at least pass the class. Hard!!

Doug Mooers is a Great Teacher. Out of all the math classes I've ever taken I would say Mooers is the best in explaining and teaching math. NOW that being said, his classes are alway HARD. He doesn't give 2nd chances like other teachers. No Notes on Exams, No Exam-Re-Dos, No dropping worst exam. Your grade is based on 3 Exams and a two-day final.

Tests may appear to be hard but he tells you exactly what kind of problems will be on it on the review. No wonder all his classes are over filled. Better hurry to get in.

Great Math Instructor! I've had him for Math97,98 & 99! He explains things in an understandable way. He makes sure everyone is good before moving on. His exams are straight from the study guides. The class builds the practice test! Awesome math experience for someone who really didn't like Algebra to begin with.

Doug is the greatest math teacher you could possibly have. I went from failing math in high school to now declaring myself a math major after taking his classes. I highly recommend taking him at the lower levels, and working your way up, because he builds an excellent foundation for your math career.

He is a great teacher and i would deffanity recommend him. I failed math 98 previously so i decided to re-take it with him. He was 100x better then my previous teacher. He explains math concepts very well and in depth. He gives homework cheaks unexpectedly that are worth 10% of your grade.

A great professor, extremely helpful, a kind person, funny, and clear expectations. Ask questions if you have them. Couldn't go to his office hours since they conflicted with my other class, but i went to the Math Center instead, and that's a great place to go even if you aren't struggling.

Very helpful, I am an older adult returning to school and was nervous about Math in general. I am much more comfortable with it now. Grades weighted almost exclusively on tests but you get partial credit if you set up the answer right even if you get the wrong answer. He really wants his students to succeed.

Mooers is one of kind. He makes math relatable, fun, and he has a quirky, interesting way to teach. Never a dull moment and great ways of reinforcing concepts without too much repetition. If only every teacher would make learning so fun!

Dr. Mooers is a very different professor than my previous calc instructors. The class was at eight in the morning, but he'd keep us engaged by talking in accents and goofing off. Surprisingly, this worked. He's also very clear and will explain anything you're having trouble understanding, but sometimes his tests can be tricky. Grades are 90% exams!

He cracks jokes and makes you think about math in a different way. He is truly excited to answer questions. If you don't understand a concept he wants you to ask questions so you can be successful! He also shows you 2 or 3 different ways to solve the same problem and takes the time to make sure you understand every method. A++ for Mr. Mooers

Seriously one of the best teachers I've ever had. He takes the time to make sure everyone in the class understands the concepts before moving on. The tests are hard but fair. He brings a lot of knowledge from the workforce into the class, and he seems to enjoy being there.

Mr. Mooers is an exceptional teacher. If you want to learn to enjoy math then take his class.

His creative examples are very helpful and funny. You feel comfortable to ask him any questions for clarification

Pros: Excellent Teacher. Easy to talk to. Does a great job preparing class for tests. Creates a "fun" environment to learn in. Cons: Not everyone will like his humor. Easy to get over if you can appreciate his willingness engage.

Doug is the best professor I've ever had. He takes the time to make sure everyone understands the topic, has a lot of knowledge on the subject and shows up every day with a smile. His tests are hard but fair and he expects a lot from you but you can always go talk to him. Even if you don't like math I suggest you take one of his classes.

I highly recommend Mr. Mooers to anyone who wants/needs to take calculus. His teaching style should work as he uses many different techniques to satisfy all types of students. Though his classes are not easy, your understanding of the concepts will make these classes easier. Mr. Mooers is very passionate about math and always happy to help.

Mr. Mooers is a great educator. He is quick to understand your learning method and takes time to be sure you get it. No tolerance for slackers, be warned and don't take up space if you're not there to learn. In the two years I was at Whatcom, he was the most dedicated instructor I had.

GREAT TEACHER! He'll take extra time after to class to answer questions you need help with and If you need things explained as if you're an 8 y/o he'll do that too. He keeps things light and isn't afraid to admit when he make a mistake. Doug is the man!

Prof Mooers is the best professor I've had in Math. Lectures are fine, but his clarity is extremely remarkable. He writes out the procedure for solving every single kind of problems STEP by STEP. I took Math 163 like 1.5 year ago and now I am reviewing for a 400 level class. It surprises me how the notes are still useful after 1.5 year taking it!!

I had over a year between math 98 and math 99. I was rusty coming into the quarter but Mr. Mooers always had positive encouragement. Class notes (he writes on the board and you can copy or photograph) are now helping me in math 141 pre-calculus! Dr. Mooers really helped me turn math around and understand concepts, I am so glad I took his class.

Doug is by far the best math professor I have had. He is patient and will explain things many different ways until you find one that works for you. He is funny. Go to class and do homework. Test are very easy if you did your homework.

I thought I could slack like I did my previous math classes and I was wrong, but he helped me out tremendously towards the last few weeks and I was able to manage a decent grade. Incredibly helpful. The class itself was good, he breaks things down barney-style and presents the material clearly. Great teacher.
