Funny Guy
Comes off as nice and is a funny man, but a really hard grader.
Very funny and makes class enjoyable!
I learned a lot from his class, and he's the hottest prof. at elon ;) (hey- some people thought Lilly and DeLoach were hot)

Dr. Cigar rocks. You'll work hard but it'll be fun.
Just when you think he isn't paying attention in class, you realize that you are right- he isn't. He might know economics, but he should stay out of ENS Senior seminar until he is willing to give constructive, timely criticism.
good professor, hard grader but you will learn a lot
Awesome guy. Makes class fun and ends class early almost every day. No tests.
He acts crazy, but knows what he's talking about.
whoa...can we say...permanent hippy!
Never likes to give just one assignment, that would be too easy. Many long oral presentations required. The guy IS a permanent hippy. Very stange person and very hard. Trust me, I took his course in the fall. This class is way too hard for me.
He was crazy and eccentric, but his class was my favorite. He gave a lot of work and he graded kinda tough, but I learned a lot. We had no tests, which was great. Watching him be all hippy-like was almost as much fun as watching the hot guys in class
weird, but after u get used to him u'll love him
He is absolutly out of his mind and very fun. He makes the classes intersting and teaches the material very clearly. His tests are hard but he gives oppurtunities to make the tests up. Go to the classes before breaks that normally everyone skips!
this man is crazy...is interesting to watch...his tests are hard but his classes are always fun...lets you out of class a lot early
Dr. Cigar is the man!! Class is a blast every time you actually have it due to the fact it is cancelled often. You have to be willing to write a lot of papers but class is so fun that it makes up for it.
very fun guy, will come off as annoying at first but he calms down. cancels class all the time, and you always get out early. lots of projects, but classmates grade them. overall nice guy.
cool guy...smokes a lot of cigars...which you will notice on your graded papers...reads intersting books and has intersting discussions but his tests are pretty hard
Redington doesn't understand that we have other classes. He gives long assignments and is never around to give help. He doesn't allow for any late work - to the point of 10 or 15 minutes. Literally!!! He is a weirdo who is out of touch with the fact that classes are for learning, not busywork.
Don't think that his class doesn't fill up just because it's an 8:00!! It's definitely a chore to get up and go to class. Not worth the time or money used to take this class with him. Very boring, not clear, and he's never around.
This guy isnt clear, and gives long assignments. He also never gives feedback and isnt very orginized. However he is a nice guy and very smart.

awful and weird and creepy.
The class is like Russian Roulette. He will call on you randomly especially if he thinks you won't like it. He is really vague and crazy. Get out of there!
He makes the students teach the class. He's unclear with assignments and each one is unnecessary. I had an 8 AM, which meant getting up to waste my time. The only good part is that he sometimes acts stoned or hungover, which is funny, and he cancels class sometimes. But you're going to get plenty of work, with little or no help or explanation.
easy, lets you out early, class discussions mainly, books you read are interesting, a little vague but fair
Get ready to pull your hair out. Not clear on assignments, lots of busy work, never tells you what grade you have, very unorganized. Half of the time he doesn't even teach, its up to the students to get infront of the class. Be ready to write A LOT! Especially cultural events...
horrendous. 18 papers assigned over the entire semester and he handed back none. i did not get 1 grade back from him. very unclear and very useless information. he is a ridiuclous character.
Very easy to talk to, friendly and very understanding!
Great professor and fun guy
get ready to be upset and frustrated. This guy gives out a rediculas amount of work without returning any of it, and he is the most sarcastic teacher in the world. Class is annoying, teacher is even more annoying
He is confusing at times. The assignments are unclear a lot of the time. He makes you get up in front of the class with groups and teach a lot. He never ever teaches. We just have the class go over the chapters of books and that is about it.
he is very interesting guy. a little crazy at times, but he lets you go a lot, and your class is cancelled a lot. really smart guy, basically a student taught class though. kind of hard grader
Awesome and very funny!
Awesome guy!
Redington is lazy and unorganized and he makes it known that he does not care about your grade. quizzes are ok but there are too many things not covered in class that show up on tests. Great guy, BUT DO NOT TAKE HIS STATS CLASS!!!
The class was a waste of time. He is funny, kinds of makes you learn the material. Tests are hard so read on your own. Very laid back and tells it like it is.
Worst class so far at elon, by a long, longshot
By far the worst teacher i have had yet at Elon. Does not explain the material that will be covered on the test and makes the tests unnecessarily difficult.
Worst class I have had yet. Doesnt actually teach or tell you what is on the test. Missed every class before we had a test so majority of the class had no clue what to expect. Dont ever take him.
this is the worst teacher you will ever have, he doesnt explain anything and the tests are near impossible. my whoole class has Ds and he does nothing about it. NEVER EVER have redington as a teacher!
Prof. Redington's class is frustrating. He doesn't get quizzes/homework assignments back to you or post your grades so it's impossible to know how you're doing. On the other hand, there is never homework or reading(which can be good or bad). He's very loud, scattered, and disorganized. If you go to class, participate, and study, it's not too hard.
The absolute worst professor I have ever had! He is rude to the students. He barely teaches anything and he goes so fast it is nearly impossible to keep up with him. Everyone I know who has had him as a professor said he was the absolute worst they'd had as well. I do NOT recommend him as a professor at all!
Although he may be a great guy, that doesnt make him a great teacher. Tells you the basics, but then his tests are very in depth and difficult. If you can avoid his class, then do it. If not, you better pay attention and simply attempt to not fail.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Doesnt return assignments. Cant get a hold of him outside of class. In class explains material well but his tests & quizzes are ridiculous. I'll study and feel like the first time I'm doing a problem is on an exam. Will say there is a test the next class. No one has good grades. Dont take him, hes awful.
Pretty tough teacher. Seems like he tries to weed people out. Not terribly hard to get a B, but not easy. And an A seems almost impossible. If you're just looking for a grade, try another teacher, but if you care about learning, Redington is fine.
he is awful, goes really fast and then never helps anyone. thinks he is a great teacher but in reality is the worst i have had in my entire life
Took sports business/entertainment. Not a hard class at all, but have to be very proactive. assignments were inconsistent and tedious, and we constantly ran out of class time for presentations. he likes to tease students, but he'll also take flack from them. not a bad winter term course.
Doesn't post reading but expects you to be keeping up on your own in the book... Tests are about twice as hard as homework, know how to do every question backwards given the information you are normally asked to find. lastly prepare to be yelled at, this guy is cracked and likes to yell a lot.... if you can get another teacher do.
Tough teacher. I found that if you attend class and pay attention and really try to grasp the material, it is manageable. Tests were very hard but he always gave extra credit opportunities. Not as bad as RMP makes him sound. Would recommend for a dedicated student.
It's now the week before midterms, and we haven't learned anything in this class. Redington let's us out early every day. It seems like he doesn't know how to fill a class period. We have had a total of one homework assignment (which was not collected). It is useless to come to class
Redington is a pretty cool guy if you actually try in the class and seek out his help. Barely any homework, a midterm, a group project, and a final. As long as you pay attention in class and take notes you will be okay for the tests. He also gives extra credit to make up for some points missed on the tests. Recommended for a dedicated student.
I really like Dr. Redington. A lot of students don't like him because they "don't learn anything" but a lot of the people who say this are also not doing any work outside of class or reading the textbook. As long as you read and pay attention in class and work for your grade, you'll do fine. He's super nice and helpful outside of class too.
He is probably the worst teacher I have had. He doesn't care if his students understand the material. I would say that the class is self taught with the book, but other than saying to read chap 1 the first class, he has not given us any more reading until two days before the last test. His tests are very hard compared to ex. problems from class.
The worst. Absolutely unreachable outside of class (or in it for that matter), gives back NO feedback on assignments (no answer keys or even your GRADES?!?). His idea of teaching is assigning group work. No readings. No in-class examples. Reads straight from a powerpoint he got offline which won't help you AT ALL when you get his random hw.
Redington has been my favorite professor so far at Elon. He is loud and funny and thoroughly explains all the material in the class. All of our tests are take home and all our tests you get a cheat sheet. Do the work and you will succeed. He can tell which students actually try and which don't the work so do what you have to do!
He is a cool guy but I have been taught more by tutors than anything in this class. Whenever we go through anything, I understand a little of it, but then the quiz and test is much harder than anything you will have seen in the practice problems.
Redington is a great professor, especially for an 8 a.m! He keeps the class awake and entertained with all his yelling. The tests are hard, but he is always available for help and he really wants his students to succeed. Work hard and you will have no problem getting a decent grade.
They absolute worst class I have ever taken at Elon. I didn't learn anything and he made my life miserable. Do yourself a favor and don't take his class.
Redington was a great Econ teacher. He definitely makes you work for your grades, they don't come easy. He is happy to answer questions you have and encourages you to ask them! The exams are worth a lot of points and there are other assignments to help bring your grade up if you aren't great at testing. You must to go to class to keep up.
This class is absolutely terrible I have ever taken at Elon. I did learn a few things but nothing that I will ever use after this class, and he made my life miserable. Do yourself a favor and take this class with someone else!
Worst professor I've had at Elon. Does not belong in a classroom because he clearly doesn't know how to teach or care about students at all.
I've never had a professor quite like Redington. He seems to get enjoyment out of scaring the class by screaming out of nowhere and rarely actually teaches the material. Don't take unless you want to spend hours teaching yourself the material and still not do well in the class.
This class was interesting, not a bad class and not a bad professor. He has an interesting teacher style for his classes, but I think without his overzealous nature the class would be extremely boring. Not a bad class and I would recommend taking, but I think you need you to be prepared for this class. Its a little out there, but not bad overall.
Very loud and funny but does not teach content that will be on the tests. Tests are extremely hard and does not relate to the book. His class presentations won't help. I had to find help from somewhere else.
Very interesting class! Variety of assignments and topics covered. Participation is crucial to success. Redington wants you to share your ideas even if they may be wrong. Fair grader who cares about student's success. Show up, contribute to conversation, turn in assignments and you'll do fine! Great class and I learned a lot.
Does not grade anything and told us that "Everyone has a B in the class, no one has proven themselves worthy of an A"
He gives a ton of busy work. Be prepared to do a lot of group projects. Material is not difficult but theres lots of papers and projects that he drops on you randomly. No clear grading criteria. You never know what your grade is.
Hands down worst professor I've ever and probably will ever have. Does not respond to e-mails and does not show up for office hours. If you have him for economic be prepared to teach the class to yourself.
Yells at random moments and is frankly kind of strange. He just lectures powerpoint in a First Year Econ class and doesn't explain anything so you can understand it. If you read the text book you can basically skip class because you're getting the same exact information. Also only graded on a midterm, presentation, and final.
This class was awful. Professor Redington wouldn't teach us a single thing in class and would expect us to know everything. He would just lecture on stuff that NEVER appeared on a test. Never available outside of class for help, and never responds to emails, so you're on your own. Never take any of his classes.
Redington is a really nice teacher. I had him for a freshman elon core requirement and he is such a nice teacher. The assignments in his class are super fun and interesting. A lot of the books in this class are like picture books or never lengthy books at all, and theyre all cheap. I really emjoyed his class and he is a really nice guy.
Doug is a funny guy, youll get an A if he likes you. Thats pretty much it, take his COR 110 if you love to talk and want to just have a straight up experience. Theres a lot of meme moments and you will be publically roasted. You talk a lot and know so much ab the news so thats a plus
Redington was by far the worst professor I've had at Elon. He had a terrible attitude about class. The entire class was based solely off of long papers and group presentations that he never grades. I did not receive a single grade until the final grade at the end of the semester. He only gave good grades to the kids that he liked.
Given Elon's commitment to individualized education, ECO111 was a disappointment. Lectures are powerpoints created by the textbook company. Students teach half of the course through a presentation project. Redington NEVER grades anything which is very frustrating. However, the homework is very manageable and class is frequently cancelled.
This isn't a hard class, there is just a ton of work. As everyone else says, you don't know your grade until after the class is over. Not. A. Single. Grade. I didn't receive feedback on a single assignment, and he just smacked me with my grade at the end. It's terrible. Even if you ask, he will ignore your email. Avoid if possible.
I had him for COR 110. It is a lot of work, but it is definitely worth it as you learn a lot about the news and history. He is super funny also and very understanding. I took this class online, but it was run really well.
PARTICIPATE!!!! even if you don't really know what you're talking about, engage in the conversation :) he makes class as interesting as possible, and you talk a lot about current events going on in the world! quirky guy who assigns graphic novels to read (READ THEM! they're good) oh yeah, did i mention it's really important for you to participate?
redington was one of the quirkiest profs i've ever had. he was goofy and interacted with students who chatted with him in class- if you get on his good side, he might pick on you in a friendly way. he does give a lot of work but just presentation/responses that were not hard at all. he truly cares about the important topics we discuss.
Redington was a kind and quirky professor, but did not put in any grades throughout the entire semester, therefore I had no clue what my grade was until the end. This was not for lack of assignments, for there were many papers, presentations, and readings we were assigned. Nice guy and pretty easy assignments, but not the grading style for me.
Dr. Redington is a genuinely cool guy, and I enjoyed being in his class overall. Like others have said, his grading style is rather frustrating as you don't know your grade until the end of the year. There is also quite a bit of work, but none of it is that difficult. As long as you put at least a bit of effort in, you shouldn't have to worry!
There were 7 required books, but if you just read a summary you'll be fine. Doesn't put in any grades until the last day of the semester.
He is very unpredictable with a rather heavy course load. So much work to talk about nothing during class. You sit in silence and then have to write multiple essays the exact same night. He makes you present a lot and participation is very important. I would not take him again.
Lots of busy work. Animated guy. Hes funny when you get to know him. Show up to class and participate and do your work on time. If you arent lazy youll be fine.
PARTICIPATE IN CLASS!! It will get you so far. Tedious work but you learn so much from this class and hes a chill guy if you give him the chance to be. I personally wouldnt take redington for another class but the core class was fine and Im glad I had him as my professor! Dont be afraid of the bad reviews on here, hes really not that bad
I really enjoyed having Dr Redington for Core. Although most of the work in the class is busy work, the topics are very interesting and he knows a lot about what we covered in the class. A large percent of your grade is based on participation in class, so if you show up and say a few relevant things in class, you will do fine.
His core class was entertaining but lots of projects and papers that you dont really get graded on. If you do them and put effort into them and CITE YOUR SOURCES youll do fine in this class. Show up or hell dock points on assignments
Redington is a great professor and has a real passion for the topics we discussed. His COR class is a good amount of work, but none of it is actually difficult. you want a class for your own personal/intellectual growth, this may be a decent option for you, but if you want a GPA padder look elsewhere.
Seven required books but you can get away with not reading them for the most part. Very weird dude, everyone either loves him or hates him. Very unclear grading criteria.
I really enjoyed prof. Redington's class. It was entertaining and very informational. The work load was significant but the work was important and if you follow his criteria and put effort in, he will help you to succeed.
Overall, Dr. Redington is a great professor. He doesnt require attendance. Class consists of powerpoint lectures and some class discussion. Usually lets class out early, especially on Fridays. Class is pretty independent and you will do better by taking notes and studying. Tests are worth like 1/2 the weighted grade, and HW + quizzes are online.
