The best teacher BY FAR. I am know in math 1010 and if it wasn't for Doug I would have never made it. He not only teaches math by also study skills that have helped me inprove in school. TAKE HIM ASAP

Greatest college teacher I've ever had, hands down. He removes all fear of the subject by explaining the mysteries of math using clear cut examples. Taking notes from him is easy & you're never afraid to ask a question. If you don't miss class & do the homework, you'll get an A. What's more, you'll come out actually understanding the subject.

Professor Schiffman was the bomb, i just got off a mission and didnt take math my senior year of high school, so i went 3 years without math, and before then i hated it! i would get by with c's and d's. Doug made the biggest difference, i am scoring high on tests and understanding what he is teaching. I would highly reccomend professor schiffman

Doug comes off as a total hard ass (as in tough, boring, precise, punctual, strict). However, throughout the semester he cracks hilarious jokes and is the life of the party. He is excellent at math, and very good at teaching. His pace was too fast for me though. Math is tricky, but he makes that okay.

He is a little monotone when speaking but he is clear when teaching new material. His homework is usually pretty straight forward and almost no longer than 20 problems. He is always willing to help if you ask for it. He's a good teacher for those who struggle with math and need a teacher that is willing to explain things. You must buy the textbook.

Mr. Schiffman was great! He made everything very clear and you could understand what he was saying. He has you take notes and if you just write what's on the board you'll have great ones to look back to. I never did the hw assignments but turned in notes and he gave me credit. Makes math enjoyable.

I've now taken his 0990 and his 1010 classes simply because he's an amazing teacher and because I read his reviews on here. I wish he'd teach 1050 and I'd take it from him as well. His class is a little more low and slow and easier to keep up with. His class is very structured and he is very personable. If math isn't your forte, take it from him!!

Best Math teach I have ever had. Very happy with him and learned a lot. I worked really hard but still didn't get the grade I wanted but believe it was fair. He is knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Every class period felt like a tutoring session, which I don't know why every professor does it that way. Wished he taught 1050.

There a couple lectures out of the year where it is just a major inspirational speech that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside after. This guy is awesome! I took Math 1050 over this summer. I really didn't think that I would learn anything in his class because I'd already taken Pre-Calc before. Boy, was I wrong. Even though I got a B+ (I usually get A's) I got the grade I deserved and I learned a ton. He will teach you no matter where you're at.

I'm not very good at math, but Schiffman really helped my grade! He was good at explaining things, and went over homework (which is based off completion) every day in class. There was homework every day, so prepare fro that, but it wasn't very long. You really get what you put into it.

Doug Schiffman is an Awesome professor. Homework is graded on if you turn it in by the test day, No participation grade for coming to class ... but you want to go to class. He's a great teacher with a sense of humor and he really cares for his students and wants them to succeed in their future classes. Definitely would take another class from him.

Such an amazing professor. I was very unsure of how I felt about him at the beginning but quickly grew to like him. He presented all the information in a clear and comprehensible fashion and was more than willing to work with you until you understood the material. I have had Prof. Schiffman for 1010 and then 1050 and he is amazing. the way he lectures is very easy to understand. Professor Schiffman has been one of my favorite professors! His lectures were clear and very enjoyable. He was good about always answering questions and going through homework problems. Attendance wasn't mandatory, but the classes were so valuable that you wouldn't want to miss!

Absolutely amazing professor. He is probably a math wiz. He knows how to teach, so it sticks. I would spend 1-3 hours out of each class studying in Math lab, I worked for the A. I'm not usually good at math, I loved his class and Did very well. He gives you a Step by step study guide that is identical to the exams. Old school, Uses Textbook+Paper.

Professor Schiffman has taught me to love math. I have always struggled with math until I took him for 1050, and now 1060. He moves quickly, so be prepared for that, but he teaches the concepts so well and will go over them many times. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say about Prof. Schiffman. He was awesome. I took this class first block last summer so we had it every night except Fridays for 2 ish hours. He explains everything so well and you can always ask questions. He also gives partial credit for tests, so unless you leave it blank you should always get some credit.

Professor Schiffman was an excellent professor. I took Trig with him and it was way easier than I thought it would be. He gives you all the answers for homework problems and offers a good amount of extra credit on tests which helps a ton. He is also pretty lenient with his grading. Definitely would take him again if he taught higher math classes.

Prof. Schiffman is personable and teaches at a good pace. He'll teach a concept and tells you where it came from. I personally liked when he explained proofs, he finishes by saying "but we already knew that". He tells you exactly what you need to know, and what's just background information. When given identities, memorize them before next class.

It was clear that he was passionate about this subject, and he didn't mind re-explaining a concept to those who didn't understand. He explained why a certain theorem or identity existed instead of just giving it to us. He posted step-by-step answer keys for all of the homework and the test reviews, which really helps to understand everything.

An intellectually aware mathematics professor in initial Algebra and Trigonometry: Easy class, prepares you for complex systems later on and you will need to prepare yourself for the tests you will come across as they are, literally, 90% of your grade. Don't expect to get by easy, but if you know what you're doing, you will be successful.

He is good to slow down if a student has questions or needs help, but where it is beneficial to the rest of his class. Really fun and enjoyable class. The test aren't too hard, and the homework is helpful. Overall one of the best people I have meet in my entire life. I would be adopted by him if he would allow.

Throughout this time he has inspired me to grow a love for mathematics, more specifically, an appreciation for all the little details and how it all intertwines with each other plus real-world applications. Doug Schiffman is a godsend. After taking SM3 from a crap teacher, I was under the impression that I wasn't very good at algebra. Mr. Schiffman changed this greatly. He clearly tells you what to expect from the class up front, is funny, and very effective at teaching. I completed the homework, understood the material, and got a high A in the class.

Very good teacher. At the beginning of every class, he goes over the homework and works the problems and answers any questions. You get credit for working the problems out. He's not obsessed with the right answer, he wants to know you understand the math, not just get the right answer.

He had files uploaded to canvas for every homework assignment in which he worked through each step of each problem. This was invaluable, and got me unstuck during homework time more than I can count. I've taken 3 math classes with Doug and I LOVE him. He's very down to earth and he clearly enjoys teaching math because he does it well. I took Mr. Schiffman for math 1050, and while I may have personally struggled a bit the lectures were very clear. If I was ever confused it was easy to ask for help and get better understanding. There is a bit of homework but it does help to understand the class more and the material. I'm currently taking Mr. Schiffman's 1060 class.

Even though attendance is not mandatory, I would suggest going even if it is the 6pm class. His tests are 60% of the grade while the homework was about 10%, so make sure you study lots for his tests. He has 4 tests along with the final, and he sets clear guidelines and expectations on what to do to pass his class. Hard to meet outside of class.

His class wasn't necessarily easy but if you go to class and do the homework you're pretty much set.

Absolutely amazing teacher. His ability to teach math is so natural and smooth and you can easily understand the concepts. He is honest, hilarious, and knows how to make you work hard. At first he will try to intimidate you but that is to help you understand how hard math can be. His ability to work with you and ensure you succeed is inspirational.

Schiffman was one of the most fantastic professors I have ever encountered! The skills I have learned from his class have been incredibly valuable as I continue in mathematics. I recommend taking his class, especially if you are going to continue in mathematics.

Doug is the GOAT for math. I scheduled my whole spring semester around taking his 1050 class. Very direct teaching style, doesn't bother teaching useless terms. Tests are graded on your work and answer, so even if you get the answer wrong, you'll still get points for using the correct method. Funny, and respectful. Loves answering questions.

If I could have Doug as my teacher for all of my classes I would! He is one of the best teachers I have ever had and he truly cares about his students success. The material in this class can get difficult but he explains things so well. If you put in the effort and don't get behind on your homework, you should be successful in this class.

Amazing teacher! He is funny and teaches in a way that is easy to understand. Pay attention and do the homework and you'll be fine. For tests, there are test reviews for every test online, and he gives partial credit for work. Loved him and wish I could have him for all my math classes!

WONDERFUL professor. He teaches very clearly, constantly encourages students to ask questions. Very easy grader, gives you points for everything you do right on a test. He answers homework questions at the beginning of class each day. He is passionate about math and gives real-world examples of the content being taught.

Absolutely love Schiffman! He is very funny which makes some of the scarier math easier to digest. Math is his second language and you can tell. He cares that you succeed more than most. Spent almost all of class once answering questions about the practice test so we would do well. Made so many aspects of math make sense. Just a great professor.

Professer Schiffman is the GOAT, I am so happy I had the chance to take his class. The way he teaches the class makes the math portion more easy to understand. He makes his class super entertaining, and is awesome at answering any questions that I may have. If you have to take a math class, take his!
