Professor Carter is a great teacher. His lectures are clear and he always tries to make sure his students understand them. He gives homework but doesn't collect it although he does encourage you to do it since he uses some of the homework problems for the quizzes. He also lets students use their homework, calculator and notes during quizzes.
He is such an amazing professor.
Great professor. Makes sure his students understand his lessons. He always comes into class with positive attitude and tries his best to make the class laugh and have a good time. Let's you use notes during quizzes but not tests. Great class! Recommend!!!!
Was skeptical about taking this class because it said "elac staff". I'm glad I ended up taking the class with Dr. Carter!! He always came into class with a smile and positive attitude. His lectures were NOT boring. I hate math but with his class it made me understand! I would definitely recommend to a friend. Let's you use notes on quizzes.
Dr. Carter is a great instructor. He made the topic easy he would not skip a step so everyone would understand his final answer. During quizzes notes and homework are allowed. HE gives homework but does not collect it. Attendance points are given everyday class meets. Dr. Carter is very caring. I would take him again. Loved his class No book needed
Dr. Carter is a very smart and funny teacher. He is really easy to understand and he gives really good lectures. He gives out study guides 3 days before an exam and he uses the 1st hour to go over the study guide problems. His quiz's are really easy as long as you take good notes.
A really great professor explains everything very clearly and gives study guides before a test and likes to review for an hour before. Also, he is always in a very good positive mood which makes the class a little more bearable.
WARNING: Dont be deceived by his rates he doesnt know how to explain anything. Students are often correcting him and all of the notes come straight from the book. Dont take him unless youre willing to learn everything on your own. Trust me!!
Very nice professor and is always in a good mood. Sometimes I feel like he does not fully understand the material himself. Makes a lot of mistakes and students have to correct him. He moves way too fast and doesn't give you enough time to fully take notes and understand the material. I had to teach myself everything I know. Overall nice but hard.
I'm taking Mr. Carter for Math 115 and I could say that he is a very good professor always on time and organized with his notes. He explains all of the material very well, but his tests can be challenging. You really need to know how to do all of the content on the study guides to solve the problems on the test.
Professor Carter, makes his lectures easy to understand, takes his time, and does not rush at all. Assigns homework but does not collect, gives test review guides and always reviews 1 hour before each test. Reviews for the final one full day before the scheduled final. I recommend him and would take him again.
Dr Carter's class was alright. I had a private tutor that would explain everything to me but if I did not have a tutor I would not have passed. He makes alot of mistakes so do not his trust study guide answers. Sometimes he does not what he is doing as the class to figure it out. The good thing is that study guides are exactly like the test.
I was never good at math until I took Prof Carter's class. He gave really useful examples that assisted in me learning this material. I wouldn't mind taking another class with him.
This class is a fun class. He gives quiz before the test and they are similar. No Hw turn in. He also gives extra credit.
Hard grader and is not generous with points. This class was not easy and he makes you work hard for it. He may seem like a nice person but he is not forgiving whatsoever and he does not care if you fail. Take another professor who actually cares about their students.
He is a funny guy and makes the class enjoyable. Four tests and quizzes plus the final (He drops the lowest test). He gives study guides and keys prior to each exam. Lectures start by him going over definitions and terms which are very helpful, then he does problems with the class. Very straightforward class. Best math professor I've had at ELAC!
Dr. Carter is a fabulous professor. His final exam for this course wasn't bad as long as you studied the review sheet completely and understood the concepts. The formula sheet wasn't needed since we never had a formula sheet for the past four tests. I hope to take his class for Math 275 in the future.
He makes exams and quizzes harder than his study guides and can lie about topics for final exam. Go above and beyond to review sections from previous exams though he says not to study all yet he added new work to final. Beware when taking his class as this is more catered to students who're math majors tbh, he even says so.
Prof. Carter makes lectures entertaining and he's always in a good mood but his exams are nightmares. Even if you do the review sheet, they are difficult. Worst of all was his final. The problems he used were more complicated than anything we had done in the semester AND he's a tough grader. Make sure you know ALL integrals (such as integral tan).
He's a hit or miss. Prepare yourself for his lectures by reading about the lesson or watching videos. He's not a good lecturer and is always making mistakes!! Confuses the students because then he's completing the problem with the wrong work! Exams are difficult and so are the quizzes. nice guy but semi decent professor! Don't recommend.
Overall he was a good professor. He caught me by surprise by many of his quiz questions and test questions. Overall though I think an A is possible.
This professor is good. He made me more confident in my mathematical abilities. HOWEVER, in the second half of the semester, he started to become more strict with rounding to the exact decimal, among other things. You will definitely not survive without some tutoring help because he can get pretty confusing. You MUST work hard for your grade.
Professor Carter is a great instructor!!! He was always on time, and his grading was clear and he was always available for office hours. NO TIME FOR SLACKING. do the homework and prepare for the quizzes and tests- he can be tricking! I recommend Carter- He cares for his students, makes class fun! Lectures are important, do not miss!!!
makes learning very hard. Do not recommend if you are trying to transfer because he will mark unnecessary points off your test. even if your answer is correct, he will go to your work section and find a mistake, such as symbols etc.
hes as disorganized as disorganized gets. is very unfair with his tests (doesnt create the test with respect to the time given). he does not know how to teach diff eqns and has to rely on his notes the entire time
Dr. Carter is the best professor that I have ever known at ELAC. He is always going over definitions and makes examples for each which are very helpful, then he does problems with the class. Dr. Carter also is a funny professor and always on time in class, plus remember all students name.
Dr. Carter also is a funny professor and always on time in class. He is the best professor who is very caring his students. He makes examples for each definitions which are very helpful in the class. He also gives the test review sheet for each test which is useful for quiz and test. Do homeworks and you will be good with his class!
Dr. Carter is the best professor that I have ever known. He always respects to his student's quetions and solves for it. He always on time in class and makes the lectures very funny. His class has four tests-drop one lowest (no quizes are given), homeworks on Sapling which is graded anf final. I am strongly recommend him to your future class.
This Professor is very simple. Review, Review, Review. Always ask questions and do not be shy around him. He is excellent in the field. He attempts to have the class understand and get involved in the lecturing because he cares for you and wants you to succeed. There is no excuse not to pass his class and of course seek tutoring.
Professor Carter is such an amazing instructor. He makes you feel welcomed in his class and is very approachable. I love how he memorizes our names and motivates us to participate more. He is super nice and for some reason his tests are easier than his quizzes. His lectures are very clear and organized which is good because you actually learn.
he's always smiling and making jokes here and there but his lectures are really heavy he wants to cover a bunch of chapters in 1 hour and I had him Monday-Thursday he should have spread the content, currently retaking math 125 with Daniel Judge and he is a far superior better teacher. Highly recommend not to take Carter if you appreciate your GPA!!
Had him Monday-Friday, it was a lesson per day and very heavy material, didnt know how to answer questions and often got frustrated when I asked for furthur understanding. Expect to spend most of your week at the Math Lab if you really want to pass because his office hours werent the most reasonable.
A professor who would try to cost your score for any reason he has. He would reduce your score because your handwriting is not good, your Mathematics Symbol habit is different from him. He did give us smiles a lot, but you can notice the smile is for gloat, but not kindness. Oh, another thing. He teaches by reading PDF.
I wasn't a student, but I know D. Carter (Jr., he has daddy issues and gets upset if you forget this) very well. This guy's a total fraud! He can't teach without the book and he's very incompetent at reading math. Seems he has 0 publications and 13 years between his Masters and PhD from low tier colleges (thanks to affirm. action probably). Avoid!
Took him for calc2 and he was pretty good but his Linear Algebra class sucked. He just cares about computation. His tests were really easy but his "mini projects" sucked. He expects you to describe everything in detail even though his lectures are very superficial. An A is doable though.
The worst teacher I've ever met, Late work is not acceptable and he'll take points off every mark of correction you made, and if you miss a step, he'll subtract more than half points of your whole work. He just likes to take points off.
I'll be honest I didn't really learn anything in his class, if you're good at learning everything by yourself maybe he's your guy
Dont do it. He lectures using PowerPoint and basically just copies and pastes whats in the textbook. Doesnt explain well, goes super fast, and he puts the more difficult questions on the actual test/quizzes and puts easy questions on the practice tests/quizzes. Definitely done on purpose. You think you get it and then BAM! You thought you got it
I was not able to redo things such as quizzes and tests with fair reason. I had already finished the test within the time frame, but the submission part was slow due to connection problems and was not given a chance to even just submit. He also does a weird noise when he messes up lol
don't waste your time take your math with someone else. he just copied and pasted the book onto powerpoint and barely explained anything
I took Dr. Carter for Cal 2. I absolutely loved his class. He always comes in with a smile and positive attitude. He wants to make sure everybody understands. If you don't understand, speak up! he will explain the concepts again until you get it. He offers review sheets with problems from the book so you know where to focus for the exams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, it was horrible. My class started with 30+ students and ended up with 5. Horrible teacher. For exams, if you dont submit within the time frame he automatically deducts 10 points. He should understand the circumstances we are in rn with the pandemic, internet can be slow at times. Oh and he makes some weird noise
Never never never took his class!!! Math 125 should be an easy class but ended up very very hard because of this professor. It is so hard to get an A on his exam, he take off your points as possible as he can. He dont even how to teach he is not a great professor. You need to upload a pdf file otherwise you will receive a zero on your exam.
I didnt choose his class for purpose, I selected another one but ELAC change the Professor two weeks before. Then I check his review before and knew he is sucks. And it turn out thats true, you have to follow his steps with every detailed during his exam, otherwise you will loose a lot of points even if you get the correct answer.
Expect no mercy when it comes to grading on your exams. Ive heard from peers that differential equations typically isnt that hard but that definitely was not the case with Mr. Carter. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to take him.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. My class started with 30+ people and ended up with 5. When it comes to test you have to turn in your work within a time frame. If you submit after the time frame he takes points off. If your work is how he taught us he well fail you. The test are harder than the study guide.
He does not give extra credit, extra time, He deducts you points for everything. I tried to talk to my professor and explined to him that this was my last semester. He did not even want to give me extra time.I dont know why Since we use Proctorio no one should me hurt. Hate online classes
I regret to choose his course, from 30+ students to 6 students, the sample questions of his lecture in class are very simple, but our homework and exam are very difficult. The test score change is very strict. Missing a step will deduct 1-3 points, although your answer is correct, Don't choose his class, you will regret it!
I have never gotten lower than a B or withdrawn in math or any other course in college till this guy; take it from me. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Listen to the reviews. Currently enrolling at RIO just to avoid him. It was my last semester and I got accepted to every college I applied to all for nothing. Now Im held back all for ONE class. BEWARE!
Carter is not only bad at getting you to understand the material, he punishes you heavily for not being able to. He also grades your tests harshly, which are filled with problems that are much harder than the ones from class. This class also takes up a lot of your time. 4 hours everyday +2 hour SI sessions +up to 4 homeworks a day (20+ questions)
1, the professor will let you know that his calculus II test is difficult. 2, more homework questions only 3 points. 3, some questions are particularly difficult in tests. 4, points will be deducted for many reasons during the test. In summary, more homework, fewer grades. Exams are difficult, points are easily deducted.
This professor is one of gems in teaching math. I wish he could write a book on this craft.
**WARNING** Reviews posted after August 2021 seem to be fake since they all read the same, are equally positive and are posted on the same days. Look to anything before July 2021 for an honest review. Overall Carter has very difficult exams, not the greatest at lecturing either. Be warned he puts notoriously difficult questions on his exams.
Test difficult, heavy homework. On the class, he always write, and show his work. no good, do not take. only 4 point credit.
If you have to take Math 236 you definitely want to take his class. The majority of students who failed his class, if not all, were those who went straight into 236 without taking any previous math class. If you're able to register for his class you're blessed. He makes it easy for his students but you still have to do your part. 10/10
I can honestly say I learned a lot in this course considering I was never good at math. Dr. Carter made it easy to digest.
Take him only if you have a solid foundation and understanding of math. Please for the love of god DO NOT take him if your math skills are garbage because if you do like I did it will be pain & suffering. He uses proctorio so think twice before taking him online. Other than that he's a really cool person and will always be there for office hours.
Very passionate about the subject, and a solid lecturer. Does require you to show all steps in the work, so having a solid foundation is practically required. His tests are similar to the practice problems of the textbook, but you need to be quick in answering. Does have a heavy time-commitment; try not to mesh with other core classes if able.
Teaches math very well given he is detailed with his notes and is willing to answer your questions. He will know when the class is not understanding the content so ask questions! You'll do just fine if you turn in all homework, attend all lectures, and use his test reviews. Careful with finals, its cumulative if I remember properly, so study hard!
He makes calculus accessible and is so good at what he does that as long as you pay attention you will understand all topics covered. Be prepared to work hard and take advantage of SI. He makes the classroom a no judgement zone. If you don't understand some algebra concepts that he doesn't cover, he will explain it to you to get you back on track.
Not understanding at all, makes class impossible to pass.
Recently finished Bus Cal w Prof. Carter. This class is hard tbh but Prof is patient and willing to reexplain. Important: He SHOWS you problems STEP BY STEP so you are actually learning and understanding. 4 tests (drops the lowest one) + 1 final exam. The exams do require spending a decent amount of time to study to be able to pass. Offers EC.
He is a grammar policeman in tests, so if you somehow misspell a word in a rush, he will do everything he can to deduct your points. You get four midterms and a final. He also gives four mock tests, which are free credits as long as you put your name on them. The mock tests are not related to the tests and the fourth test is the hardest one.
His lecturing is good, which makes his tough and essentially nonsensical grading really jarring he is not specific about what you did wrong unless you interrogate him about it, you may have a test where you get no answers wrong but will fail if you "skip steps" which he does while lecturing or if your script is even slightly unclear.
Do not take Carter. His grading is horrendous. He will find whatever ridiculous reason he can to dock points from you. He expects an unreasonable amount of work shown considering the time limit for tests. I understood the class material very well, but I ended up with a C because of his horrendous grading. It would have been as easy A anywhere else.
Dr. Carter is the absolute best math professor at ELAC. Calculus in general is a difficult course but he has incredible passion and ingenuity when it comes to teaching this subject. Participate in class and pay attention to the lectures and you'll do well. One of the best and funniest professors I ever had. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
Professor Carter has been the hardest professor I have taken at ELAC so far. He is an amazing professor, but his grading is onerous. The way he explains things and answers questions is really good. I learned a lot from his class but did really bad on the last 2 tests because I did not study at all. So make sure to study if you want the A!
avoid this guy, pretty sure some of his good ratings he writes himself, not even the guys that did well in his class found him as funny as he finds himself. Pretty weird that all his good ratings mention how "funny" he is. If he writes them about himself, well at least that is funny.
His exams aren't actually that difficult at first, but the problem-solving steps are very long. Also, the way he grades is extremely unreasonable. He takes off points for even the tiniest mistakes. I think only one person ended up with an A and he doesn't curve. I don't recommend taking this class unless you're a genius or willing to not get an A.
This monstrosity of a professor takes your grade off just by sneezing on the exam. He wants students to respect him while constantly acting all entitled. He literally writes his own reviews of himself on this website to offset his bad reviews. No students would write like that. DO NOT TAKE HIM! You will never ever get an A, lucky if you get a B.
Tough grader. Complicates things more than they should be. Need to attend all lectures. Not clear even though he repeatedly says he is crystal clear. Overall not great at teaching. Avoid if possible.
Do not take this professor because his lectures are hard to follow and just shows a slideshow for class. Tough grader when it comes to tests and is condescending. Doesn't care about students at all. Drop the class while you can.
Harsh grader, expect 50%+ off on correct answers for minor errors. Questions are moderate, but timed tests w/ proctoring software multiplies difficulty a lot. Lectures are okay, but office hours are unhelpful. For projects: no problem-specific info (even examples) & expand polynomials. 5-star reviews are fake, as explained by other reviews.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! Reviews are way underselling him, will take off points if you SNEEZE on papers. Usually never have issues with "hard" teachers but he is a different breed, you WILL NOT get anything higher than a C unless your work is perfect, and then he *might* consider giving a C+.
I'm writing this to save your mental health and money. DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! I'm pretty sure like 5 people out of 38 passed his class. He makes things difficult for absolutely no reason. Also, this is a math course, and he grades based on people's handwriting. Try to take the class at your transfer university or another college in the district.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Take another class in the meantime, or take the class at another institution. Do whatever is necessary to avoid this professor. Heed this warning; I implore of you. He will dock points for anything. It is impossible to pass his class. Stay far away from Carter.
With confidence, I can say that Carter behaves maliciously toward students. He wants them to fail. I have never experienced such abhorrent grading practice. There is no amount of effort that you can put into his classes that will be enough. He will take off points if what you wrote looks ever-so-slightly imperfect. Do not take any class with him.
First time writing a class review because this was the worst I've ever experienced. I like math but this was just terrible. Any imperfection in handwriting or spacing will cause you to lose many points - even if it is obvious based off context clues. He does not give enough time on the test for the number of questions, length, and difficulty.
Do not take this course with Carter. Total waste of time, money, and effort. In my experience, correct answers were ignored and points cut for petty details. Reviews make him sound bad, but it's worse. I regret enrolling. Learn from my mistake: stay away.
If you let this professor grade the president's math test, the president would put 200% tariffs and take this to the Supreme Court because the professor's grading should be a crime. Even if you understand the concept and ace the tests, you lose 10% to 20% of the points due to him nitpicking on your format and handwriting.
With confidence, I can say: in my opinion, Prof. Carter does not come to teach - he wants students to fail. Grading was unfair, points taken for nonsense while real math didn't matter. Reviews don't show the full picture. If you value fairness or your GPA, avoid this professor at all costs.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! Grading felt arbitrary and punishing. Points were cut for trivial things like subscripts while actual correctness was ignored. Reviews are underselling him - I later found many students had the same complaints. Save your GPA and sanity: steer clear of Carter.
He will take off points for the most arbitrary of reasons on the exams. You will literally lose a significant amount of points for "sloppy" handwriting. His entire lecture is him just copying from his notes. Do not take him if you care about your wellbeing.
