Doug was a very understanding individual. I took his class in the summer and I had to miss three of them. He was very understanding when I informed him ahead of time that I would be missing. He's a very nice guy, just watch out for the quizzes in the beginning, make sure you study.
Awesome class.. no tests no quizes.. veryhelpful and interesting class . maybe long but the videos are fun to watch and he is very considerative with your schedule if you get sick.
Doug is a great teacher. So far no tests; and we have a "quiz" each class period, but he doesn't count them for a grade. He's quite funny too, but if you don't like dry humor, he may not be for you. He also makes sure that no student is left b
So great! Doug is the most helpful, kind teacher ever!! He'll give you an A just for your effort!
The most organized, clear, and easy-to-understand professor I've ever had. He has a great passion for the work he does.
Doug Salokar is one of the friendliest and funniest choir directors I have ever had. I love music and singing, and he always adds great insight into his lectures and directorial methods. His sense of humor is great, although I wasn't sure if I would like it at first! Students love him and he wants them to do well. Take his classes!
He was a great teacher! Very funny, and made class intersting! He tried to include us in on the lectures, so we werent just falling asleep!
he was verry fun, all you do int he class is sing and thats it, then he tels you how to improve ur voice, you even get to pick what songs u sing
Doug is an excellent teacher. He makes the class fun and engaging. I feel he went above and beyond the call of duty for this class. After taking this class I have much more appreciation for music and much more in tone to the background music. I would recommend this class and teacher.
The best music teacher at heartland in my opinion in class voice we picked any song and sang it and he helped make us sound better :D
Doug is a great professor, with a sense of humor. He takes the time to teach every student about their own voice. Also shows great techniques to improve and feel comfortable with your voice. It has definitely helped me overcome stage fright. (FYI, if you do take this class you do have to sing in front of the class, alone.)
easy class cause no tests, only take home study guides which we got a whole week& a half to work on. he gets assignments back on time. be careful when it comes to plagiarism tho, hes strict. he doesnt really teach tho we just watch videos the whole time and expects us to learn from them. so class does get boring and leads to doodeling and napping.
Doug seems like a nice enough guy but I think he doesn't do well in one-on-one situations. I took piano with him and the most he did was show me a piece, play it for me, then ask me to have it ready for the next lesson. He would really only talk about the weather with me. I missed my lessons a few times and felt horrible. He said nothing though.
Doug is a pretty average instructor. He makes a lot of jokes in the class.I would say overall he is a easy grader and as long as you attend the class, you will pass. He gives you the note for the class and study guides that are pretty identical to the tests he gives.
This was a very easy class. He sets it up in a way that if you do good on the study guides and other assignments that you can bomb the tests and still pass the class. He uses a textbook but there is no need for you to go out and buy ine because he follows his class notes that he hands out to everyone.
He gives a lot of extra credit. As long as you go to class it's not that hard
Great instructor overall with a sense of humor. Just don't take it at 8:00 in the morning. He gets a little mad when people don't contribute.
Doug's class was very interesting!! You learn a lot about music in different eras and have a different appreciation for it. His test and assignments are not difficult. Overall great professor.
Amazing teacher. Your grade is rounded up, and he has a curve on your grade. Good attendance and your lowest exam grade is turned into extra credit. You have to do some in depth thinking, but I always loved going to this class. He gives a TON of extra credit at the end of the semester. You could easily not attend and get a passing grade from it
He is terrible! He said at the beginning of the semester that you don't need to know anything about music or be a music major, he was wrong. you need to know everything there is to know about music. I had to miss class because of a death in the family and he didn't seem to care, he didn't even let me know there was homework, or a test soon.
This class was very boring! The music was mostly opera style and his tests were very difficult!!!
Doug is a very smart professor. I had no idea about music going in at all (Just needed credits) and easily passed his class with near 100% with little work compared to my other classes. He gives study guides with answers before each test. (HINT: Most of these questions are word for word on the test which is how I got As on every test.)
Absolutely loved this teacher! I took his class and I had no problem with the material. I think if music does not come easy to you then all you need to do is study! I think he is an overall good teacher.
Doug's class was fine in my opinion. I just wished that there was more than just opera because that was literally half of the class. He does offer a huge chunk of extra credit, but do show up for class because there are at least 100 questions per test. The notes are basically pre typed. Brush up on how to read music because that really helped me!
Doug was a good teacher and I enjoyed going to this class most of the time. It is boring sometimes because there is a lot of Opera and topics I wasn't very interested in but it was ok. The class is easy to get a good grade in because the quizzes are easy and he gives all the answers to them to study from.
I am a bit late on my rating as I took his class in Spring 2016/17. Prof Salokar is AMAZING! I wasn't looking forward to taking a music class but he definitely made it enjoyable. His class is an easy 'A'. Do the work, do the extra credit, show up for class, pay attention and you are almost GUARANTEED an A. Inspirational, and just plain AWESOME!
I loved this class, if you enjoy music or appreciate the classics or just want to learn more I totally suggest taking Mr. Salokar, he makes you feel like you get to know the real musicians behind all the music. He's super knowledgeable and all in all its a wonderful class to take. His test are based right off the study guide he hands out!
This is a class where if you show up, you will pass. He wants you to succeed, so as long as you participate, he ensures success. He's also hilarious and keep the class interesting and alive.
Doug is awesome! As long as you show up to class and do your work this class is a breeze. Doug is funny, and really cares about your success as a student.
An amazing and fun teacher. Really cares for students and will help you in any way possible. Can quote John Waters' Female Trouble in its entirety. Truly an inspiring and caring dude, offered up to 200 points extra credit at the end of the semester.
Doug is one of the best professors I have had at Heartland. As long as you show up and give a real effort, there should be no reason you do not pass this class. Doug is an old school professor, and believes that learning should be fun and enjoyable. There is a lot of opera, but he makes it bearable. I would recommended this class to anyone.
I loved Doug. He was so kind and understanding. I was sick and he allowed me to take my exam a day later. His lectures are mostly interesting and he is hilarious. He has lots of hands on music experience and is incredibly knowledgeable. He understands that the class is just a gen ed and doesn't bog you down with work. Don't really need textbook.
Best teacher at Heartland! Take his class you wont regret it!
Honestly an amazing guy, super understanding and funny. We had one big homework assignment a week but we never had a test. Even with the homework he was flexible with when you turn it in. Super chill, convinced him to watch rocky horror picture show and he gave us his credit card to buy snacks for people. would definitely take his class again .
Great teacher and easy A! I found the lectures boring and hard to sit through, but the material was manageable and he was very understanding when it came to late grades and having bad days. Ensures that as long as you put forth work, you pass. Extra credit opportunities were given at the end of the semester for anyone trying to raise their grade.
Doug is very knowledgeable about music theory. I just wish he would spend more time lecturing instead of having us do it ourselves. If he were to explain better and spend more time teaching, his class would be better.
Doug has a lot of knowledge and does not like phones used in class. At the start of the semester, there are a lot of quizzes, but he makes flashcards for the students. The second half of the semester is more test heavy, but he literally gives you a study guide with answers that has the same format for that upcoming test.
Doug is a fantastic teacher. He truly cares about his students and is extremely knowledgeable about music. I took his Jazz Blues and Rock and Roll class and he was awesome. There are some homework assignments but he's pretty chill if they're a few days late. There were a couple papers but no tests.
Doug is a wonderful professor! I took Music 260 just to fill a required fine arts credit, but the experience I had was amazing. The class is built around videos and documentaries. You will write a lot in this class, but you won't have to worry about formalities. Just show him that you understand the material, and he will give full credit. Very fun!
He is very passionate about what he teaches but is unprepared. He is very unreachable, when I had trouble with how he posted information online he sent me to someone else to figure out his mistakes. He never owned up to his own mistakes on work, and never replied to emails. Not to mention being late to class.
Prof. Salokar is very understanding. If you need an extension on a quiz , all you have to do is ask. Most of the time, you will be granted an extension because he doesn't want you to completely stress over his class. He understands that most students are taking on a full schedule and have a lot to handle, and he is very flexible with due dates.
Doug was an absolute blast and made learning about music an amazing experience! I was nervous to take a class that I felt like I didn't know much about, but he made learning the course material a breeze. He always was very understanding and helped me out anytime I was stuck or confused. He truly cares about his students!!!
This professor was rude and condescending. Didnt seem interested in being here. Clearly wasnt concerned with us learning as he was in discussing his personal life.
Doug cares about the students, I think he's the kind of teacher the world needs today. He breaks out of his strict teacher role and becomes a friend. Unfortunately because of the covid I did not have the opportunity to meet him in person, but I know that he is a teacher with whom you would be happy to be in a classroom.
He was a great professor, the material was not too heavy. If you do all the work you will get an A. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities towards the end. I really recommend taking this professor, you will not stress in this class.
Doug is GREAT! He has you call him that. He does everything he can to make sure his students are learning in a comfortable environment. He goes out of his way to help students whenever they need it- and if you ever need an extension, he is more than happy to give it. I would absolutely take his class again, and I recommend him to everyone!
For context, I took this class completely online so I never really got to talk to Doug in person (at the beginning of the course he asks us to just call him by his first name). Doug was a really chill professor and extended a lot of grace to his students. The course work is easy, the reason I had a B is because I just didn't turn in some things
Doug is the best teacher I have ever had. I took him twice. He is funny, incredibly caring, and you do learn a lot from him. He does not want his students to stress, so he tries to make classes as fun as he can. You will not regret taking a class with him.
Doug is one of the most caring and understanding Professors I've ever had. He kept his lectures entertaining and found ways to include humor. There are quizzes every week and they are quite long but are relatively easy if you read the material and follow along in lecture notes/outlines. Great class, great professor, easy A!
Great to work with! Make sure you just email him if you ever need help he responds pretty quick!
Doug is who every teacher should strive to be. He is honestly in my top 3 teachers I have ever had. He makes sure that you actually understand the material and he sets up an environment for students to succeed. If you need an extension he will give you an extension for the sole reason of him wanting to see you succeed. Doug truly does care.
Doug uses humor to keep students' attention through dry material. He is clear in his expectations, but is very empathetic when life happens and a student may need some extra time for an assignment.
Doug is caring and respectful toward students. He really is willing to work with us to ensure our success. Although I am a musician and this is simply music appreciation, I learned from the class and really enjoyed it!
Doug. A real lad
As a bit of a music person myself, I had an absolute blast in Prof. Saloker's class! He's funny, clever, interesting, and teaches in such a fun manner! The classwork is a bit hard and I was definitely doing a lot of studying outside of class to pass the tests, but I think the knowledge learned is well worth the work!
Doug is the best professor HANDS DOWN! He truly cares about each and every one of his students and will do everything he can to make them succeed. He puts so much time and effort into this class and he makes it fun with all of his jokes. I was going through a rough time and forgot a discussion and he gave me an extension and words of encouragement.
Doug is easily the best human- ever. His jokes are GOLD. Not only is he super knowledgeable in music, literature, and is very cultured, but he also CARES about his students. I've not met a kinder professor in my academic adventures. The man has been around the world and takes that wisdom, advice, and knowledge with him in every capacity. GOAT
Doug was by far my favorite professor of this semester- and possibly my favorite ever. The notes- simple, easy to understand with plenty of examples. Discussions- a tad long, but not difficult. He is very understanding when grading and doesn't require you to know anything that he hasn't gone over. Quizzes- completely open. No papers, no final exam.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class! Doug consistently found ways to make a good class better. It was very easy to stay engaged. Doug's instructions were always very clear which made the weekly assignments very easy to work through. Bits of humor were sprinkled throughout the material making this class feel as if it were face-to-face. Well done, sir!
I did my class all online so I didn't have many interactions with Doug. But with the few interactions I did have, he was very nice and respectful. It was a bit of reading and the tests are a bit long but if you put the time into the class, it's easy to pass it. The discussions were a bit long and confusing but there are only 4 discussions.
Very good teacher
Enjoyed this style of teaching.
Doug was a great teacher for the class, he didn't overwhelm students and was very enthusiastic about the topic
Honestly, the best professor I had this semester. I will recommend his class to everybody!
Seriously, one of my favorite classes. Testing is all multiple choice. Expect a few essays/discussion posts with responses. Easy reading with audio and video lessons. Class is well structured and easy to manage. Instruction is provided each week on what is expected so there is no question on what is due when. Prof is down-to-earth and funny.
Doug was great! Super relatable and understanding. He was always communicating with us. There was a lot of notes and readings but you were allowed to use those for the tests which was nice. He said he was not super familiar with teaching online but I thought he did great! He has a funny sense of humor if you can understand it. He made music fun.
This course was very heavy in terms of assignments and tests for being an all-online course. In my opinion, he should put more effort in keeping students motivated and engaged, but instead he just dumps the (complicated, extensive) assignments on Canvas with tests every 2-3 weeks & with 2 interesting discussions posts here or there. Seems nice tho.
Doug is the most thoughtful and caring professor you will have. I honestly can't see how anyone would give him anything but a perfect score. He is very understanding and will give you an extension no matter what. If you have the option, take his class.
Doug is probably the most easy going and funny professor you'll have. He doesn't overwhelm you with busy work, and his tests/quizzes are always fair. He does tend to ramble at times, but has a lot of experience and insight to share. I very much enjoyed his lectures and overall had a great time with the class. Great guy, would definitely retake.
He's pretty chill. He may be lecture heavy but he's funny with it.
Doug was very understand and gave extensions on almost everything IF ASKED. Allowed you to use the internet as a resource (as should every teacher but they don't). Lots of opportunites for extra credit! Only thing was lectures were a bit monotonous at times but the class was fairly short. Would highly recommend this course for a Gen Ed credit!
Doug is an excellent teacher who obviously feels passionate about teaching the subject. He is caring, engaging and respectful. I really enjoyed the class. I thought his lectures were thorough, his posts were interesting and his discussions really thought provoking and fun to participate in. 10/10 would recommend!
Doug is a great professor in both teaching as well as handling his students. He makes sure you understand the material and offers extensions and lots of extra credit. He is very caring and definitely makes mental health a priority, which I appreciated. I would absolutely recommend taking his classes.
Awesome professor who I feel cares about his students and wants to treat everyone as equals. The class was interesting with a good amount of reading but is pretty easy to get extra credit if you put in a good effort on the discussions. Doug is also hilarious and seems like a great guy. Easily one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Doug is a good teacher, just make sure you understand what you're learning and you'll be fine.
Very understanding professor and to just do what he asks he doesn't ask for much but you should be fine and stay in top of his assignments
this teacher really just enjoys what he teaches and adds a fun and comedic way of teaching
Doug treats his students like they are actually humans, while also encouraging us to learn and be engaged in the course. Great teacher.
I have taken several classes with Professor Salokar and have enjoyed each course. He is extremely down to earth and treats his students with respect. Each module is structured in a way that allows student to know exactly when assignments are due, what exactly they need to do to complete each assignment, and most importantly engaging.
Great Professor. Was very interactive with students, and always puts a smile on your face with his memes.
Doug (he requests to be addressed at such) is a very understanding teacher. He is very honest about the course from the beginning. I absolutely recommend him to teach your class. Also he cracks jokes all the time, which just makes the class more fun.
Extension policy is fantastic. Doug treats his students with respect. He is encouraging and engaging. Humor keeps the material from getting too dry. 10 out of 10 I would recommend taking this course with Doug.
He doesn't treat you like you are a naive little kid, he acknowledges all groups of people, and is very genuine. He makes a lot of cheesy jokes (actually pretty funny). He communicates very well and allows for extensions. Mainly gives quizzes, but adds lectures and "further understanding" resources for them. Also, he allows lots of extra credit.
I took this class online for 6 weeks. I would highly recommend it to others. As long as you are completing the assignments and quizzes you will be able to get an A. It is all open notes and open internet so it is hard not to!
I really enjoyed this class as well as Mr. Salokar. He made the lectures fun and engaging and all of his quizzes were open note. He gave excellent feedback and had clear grading standards. I would definitely take another class of his!
This is a teacher who teaches amazing courses and you are going to love both! Every piece of material you read is very thorough and informative. The assignments are clear and concise and fairly easy to complete with knowledge from the material. Doug always gives amazing feedback and is ALWAYS willing to help/benefit your education!
The online course was the best. Each week we would get around 3 to 4 assignments and they were not too overwhelming. One would be a discussion post and the rest would be quizzes that you get multiple tries to work on. There would be some exams but not to hard. Overall Doug was a great professor and was very respectful.
Grading is more than fair, and extra credit is always awarded on assignments he feels are above and beyond. Doug is a very kind person and understanding of his students. The tests are very stress-free (they're open internet and give you untimed time!) so you're never anxious while taking them. If you do the work, you will succeed in this class!
This class was honestly a struggle for me (I don't know anything about how music works apparently). BUT Doug was an awesome professor. Very nice, constantly checking in with students, and always giving extra points. You get plenty of resources and opportunities during this class as well.
Doug is an amazing professor. The class is easy to follow and everything is very organized. If there's any issue, the problem will be easily resolved. Would take again and highly recommended!!!
This professor was hands down the best professor at Heartland. Everything about him and this class was interesting. I have never had a teacher at Heartland care so much about his students. If you can take this class you absolutely need to. I got so much extra credit from this class just for putting extra effort in on assignments, over 100 points.
He is a very understanding professor with grading, and asking any questions that you have. He gives great feedback for you to improve in the future and help you succeed to the best of his ability.
He is very sweet, and loves to be called "Doug". He never talks down to us, and always gave extra credit. He gives extensions, and is very nice about it. He rarely said no to extensions (I only used one because of midterm tests). He also doesn't do final exams or midterm exams. I enjoyed his class tremendously.
Having this class will bring you happiness as the teacher is incredibly kind and caring, making you feel like the most exceptional student in existence.
Doug has truly been my favorite professor at Heartland. If you get the chance to take ANY of his courses you absolutely should. This is my second course I have taken with him. This class was a bit harder but he is truly the most caring professor you can have! He also gives extra credit points on most assignments if you work hard!
Doug is super chill, honestly. One of the easiest and most relaxing classes I've ever taken due to the music listening portions. Quizzes are open note, open book, open internet. He has a great sense of humor - wish I had room to take more of his classes!
Doug was by far my favorite professor at Heartland. He is so caring and understanding which is rare to come across. He provides everything you need to succeed and as long as you keep up with your work you will do great in his class. I wish I could give him more than 5 stars because he truly deserves it!
Doug was a great teacher. If you're looking to cover some easy credits and have a packed schedule, definitely take his online class. On average, I spent an hour in his class this semester, which was so helpful since I had other classes that took all my focus. Weekly tests: open note, open internet. Great at responding. Definitely take him.
Doug is wonderful and you will not regret choosing his class. He gave a pretty good amount of assignments but it was easy to stay on top of. He is very understanding and is aware that sometimes a mistake happens, we're all human. I will definitely sign up for any classes I need in the future if I see the name Douglas Salokar.
This professor really cares about his students, he shows it. He gives optional feedback discussion posts every so often, he will often make funny jokes in his weekly modules and he is very open about how much he cares for teaching and his students. He is very open to extensions if you just ask, easily one of the best teachers ive ever had.
Doug was funny and made sure everyone was on track. Truly cares and respects your personal calendar outside of school with accepting late work and not withdrawing you from the course for missing some classes. I would defiantly take another one of Doug's classes!
10/10 and super caring. Wish more people would be this kind when teaching and offer extensions on homework.
Doug was a very fun guy to have as a professor. He was very timely and always tried to have with the assignments.
Over all 10/10! Super fantastic guy, I HIGHLY recommend him! I really enjoyed his class, and his jokes were super funny! Lectures help a lot, especially if you don't like reading. There *is* a textbook, but I personally didn't have to use it and still enjoyed the class. I liked looking things up to get a better grasp of it! But yeah, LOVED him! :D
Doug's class was fine. The class was open book/internet, and everything was done online. He requires a textbook, but you could easily go without it. His lectures seemed to go on tangents often, but when kept on track, were interesting. Homework consisted of quizzes and discussion boards with replies and was rather easy, but at times tedious.
He's online class is open notes/internet/book. His discussions for the course are lengthy but he gives you the option to choose what every type of music genre you like although it is a classical music class. His quizzes/exams are long but easy if you read the modules and you can always log out the quiz and take it when every you have time
One of the best and actually caring professors at Heartland. Don't pass him up, he's very generous, flexible and understanding as long as you communicate.
Doug never responds to emails. The links in modules are outdated and usually don't work. I would email him about those links and all he ever responded with was “yes they do.” Towards the end of the course he stopped posting modules on time. There was once an entire week where he didn't post anything and no one knew what to do.
Doug is a fantastic professor who is focused on delivering you the best educational experience that he can. He is very approachable, and if you ever get the chance to take one of his courses then I encourage you to. You will not regret it.
If you need a music teacher, Doug is your guy. This professor is one of the few teachers that shows you true respect and kindness. The work was a bit heavy at first but he is so reasonable that he showed grace for the entire semester! Online was super independent. Honestly a great class and Doug is funny. Look for his jokes! Easy A class.
I recommend taking this class to get your electives out of the way. His assignments/quizzes are pretty easy, there's about three discussion posts that involve a bit of heavy writing, he divides them evenly throughout the modules though. You should be able to get an A as long as you do the work! He is VERY accommodating!
Doug is literally my goat. Every time I'd come in for class, I'd be greeted by Mr. Doug himself with a warm smile. You can tell that he truly cares about teaching and the material he is teaching. He often would go on side stories, but would always get back on track for the lessons. Gives easy but thought-provoking assignments online.
Doug was a phenomenal and caring professor. He was understanding and worked with his students to find the best fit for the workload. He also was very inspirational with his own passion for music and awarded students for their effort. He was a great professor and would definitely take his class again!!
Doug was an amazing instructor and he is the best professor I have ever had.
Doug is a super chill professor who makes his MUS150 class really enjoyable. Lectures are helpful, and quizzes are open-note/book/internet, which makes studying a breeze. Apps like Unstuck study were great for prepping too. Overall, a fun and easy A!
His the coolest teacher ever very funny and helpful even though it was online I really wish i got to meet him
I absolutely loved this class and this professor. Everything was very easy and he is a very understanding person.
Tom is an outstanding teacher!
Easy class, Doug is funny!
