Wow!! All I can say is take his class and I promise you'll enjoy it!! He's great!!

Doug was a great teacher, he really related the subject to ordinary circumstance and that made it easier to grasp. He was very helpful in teaching us to feel comfortable speaking in front of a crowd.

Funny teacher. He is sooooo easy, just take him, do the work, minimum reading, and get an A.

Doug Joiner is the best! He is serious about the subject but provides a very relaxed atmosphere. Participation oriented classes. Homework was minimal - preparing your speech is about all youll have to do outside of class.

Looked forward to class everyday. He challenges your thinking. His examples brought our books to a personal level. My hope is he continues to care, bring passion, and freshness to the classroom. Thank you for your effort Doug and go to the gym:)

This man is hot...He is an awesome teacher and super easy. Tests are matching and multiple choice but we only have 2 plus final. Makes you really comfortable speaking in front of the class. I would take his class again if possible.

I have been at ASU for 7 years, and Doug is my number one favorite teacher here. If you can't pass his class and have fun too, then you shouldn't be in school.

he is the greatest teacher i have ever had. he requires one big speech per class but understands that everyone is nervous and doesn't embarass you in front of others. he gives helpful tips without critizing. I found it liberating to do speeches on controversial subjects. he makes it hard to concentrate on his class b/c he is soo hot but a plus.

Doug rocks!! He is one of the rare breeds that actually considers you human and understands that life sometimes gets in the way. He does expect you to do your best, but you find yourself actually wanting to do it anyway, because class in interseting and personable. I highly recommend this guy to any and everyone.

Hilarious, interesting, friendly, helpful, and super-sexy...plus, his tests are pretty easy and he tells you beforehand what's going to be on them. TAKE HIM!

Doug is a wonderful professor. I took his class a couple of years ago, when I was terrified of public speaking. But, he helped me to overcome my fear, and for that I will always be grateful. I'm a Psych major, but his class has been the highlight of my college career, and he is my favorite professor hands down. Brilliant, funny, and hot too!!

If you have to take an 8am class he is the guy to take. Clear about what he wants. Relaxed but not a push-over. Ladies--nice to look at. He's great, everyone should take him. Always in a hurry though, needs to slow down some at school so that student feel he is accessable more.

I have taken Doug twice and both times have been super!! If you pay attention and you have slightly more than half a brain, you can easily pass this class. Let us not forget he is SMOKING hot and super cool.

Very encouraging..I was so scared of public speaking b4 taking this class but I actually had alot of fun. You do have to show that you are trying, but he knows what grade you will get b4 he even does final grades, so just sho him that you are listening and do your speeches, and you will get an A. I wish every professor in college could be like him.

Taking this class really helped me with my public speaking anxiety. Doug is the funniest, friendliest, sweetest professor I've ever met. If he were my age and single I would SO stalk him.

This class will cure you of any speaking anxieties. Doug is an awesome professor and is very knowledgeable is his field. One of my favorite classes so far. Not a gimme A unless you really prepare and do ALL assignments. You will be very pleased. Take from Doug.

Doug is by far my favorite prof at ASU! I looked forward to class and laughed most times. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to giving a speech. He's easily approachable and very liberal. He will not put up with BS, but will gladly work with you in times of need as long as you're showing the initiative. I highly recommend Doug!!

Doug is a great teacher, puts you at ease for the public speaking portion, I found him very helpful, intelligent and easy communicate with. You need to attend class and put forth effort for your speeches.

Even though I freaked out at the second speech ( I didn't have my intro really written. got a 'b'. first speech was an A), I know now how to stand up and just recite my speech ignoring anything distracting. His exams are staright from his lectures (which he makes really interesting) and text. The text was great :

Oh my. Douglass. H's funny, smart, interesting, and cuases you to be interested. What's also nice is that he is so clear in his notes you never need to buy the text book. Got an A and never bought it. He helps with speeches. I hated speeches at the beginning of class and now I'm quite confident at them.

Good professor, students hardly use the book and he tells you that you may not need to buy it. There are 2 speeches, one midterm, and a rediculously easy final. He doesn't grade roughly. Just do the speeches on time and an easy A.

Probably the best teacher ive had since ive been in ASU. Hes soo extremely easy, hes such a down-to-earth person and hes really funny. I think the only possible way to get lower than a C is if you dont do your work, dont show up for class, and dont pay attention. All of his tests are based on his lectures... never bought or used the book...

The Dougster is awesome!!!! Very laid back and extremely helpful with overcoming fears of public speaking. He is not looking to make you a pro, simply help you improve. No text book needed and his lectures are quite enjoyable. He makes class very fun and enjoyable. Why take anyone else for 1020 if Doug has openings in one of his classes?

He's Very funny and laid back. He makes the class interesting and gets everyone involved in the discussions. Do not buy the book! We did use one AT All! Definately recommend him. I strongly dislike public speaking and still am not a huge fan but he did make me feel comfortable in his class.

truly a must take class! i'm such a timid person and have always hated to talk in front of groups (big or small) but he helps you through it and gives you great pointers. He's very helpful and makes you feel comfortable. I loved this class, easy A if you show up and listen

If you dont take him you will regret it. He makes you laugh and wakes you up in the morning. His papers are easy, isnt to critical about speeches and test was straight from study guide.

The most chill teachers i met at ASU! funny guy, he wants the class to be active. Tests are super easy cause he basically gives you half of the test problems with the answers to study. Tests easy, multiple choice, you just need to memorize the notes you take. No books needed. Don't be disruptive, or he gets pissed.....but overall, nice and chill!

This professor was very laid back, until the end of the semester. Which he suprised the class with a cumulative exam. Students should take great notes thoughout the semester. He only give five grades,however his class was not hard.

Hott. Hilarious. Smart. And a smarty-pants. He is a director of theater, also. Teaches acting. This class is a breeze if you try, and he makes it easy by getting you to be familiar with your classmates before speaking in front of them. He tells you exactly what's on tests. I could listen to this guy talk all day! Speeches easy. A+.

This was the easiest class I've taken in college. It was always entertaining and Doug makes everything easy for you to understand. No real final at all, which is awesome. Super easy test which he pretty much gives you the answers too. I would highly recommend this class I'm an a/b student and I left with a 97

He is funny and very entertaining. He keeps the lessons interesting and relates them directly to you. There's no way you could fall asleep in this class! You don't need a text book either. Also, he gets you familiar with your classmates, which helps a lot with stage fright!

Doug is the man, a little unorganized at times but if you fail his class or finish with anything lover than a B it wasn't his fault. He does take attendance and it will hurt your grade after 5 I think. He gave 2 tests which were both pie. Just show up, participate and don't be nervous or say "like" a lot and you will love "Doug"

Dr. Joiner is a wonderful professor!! He has a great sense of humor and he knows how to keep the students interested in his lectures. He doesn't require you to buy the textbook. I didn't buy one and I didn't need it. His tests and assignments are easy. Just make sure you study. I highly recommend this professor without a doubt!

Doug is great. He's very down to earth and teaches in a way that's always interesting and makes you want to come to class so you don't miss anything he says. Tests were easy if you listen and pay attention, speeches are fine as long as you do your research. 10/10 I <3 Doug.

Doug is the best. His class was one that I looked forward to going to everyday. He is very clear and the notes he has us take are exactly what will be on the test, hardly any information he gives us goes to waste. He also gives us 30 questions along with the answers that will be on the tests. When it comes to speeches, he helps you with every step.

Great professor, taken him for two different classes. Makes the class really interesting, is very up front about what is expected of you. If I had to recommend just one professor, he would be it.

Doug is a nice and funny teacher. He keeps things laid back & you won't dread anything other than the speeches. That being said, it is pretty obvious that he'd rather be anywhere else but in a classroom. He has relatively no office hours. You can't really study for the final because its just random words that you have to remember the definition of.

I LOVE DOUG. I am not a fan of public speaking but he keeps it simple and fun. He's super honest, funny, and would much rather be at home or in the theatre, than at class. But he is so good at what he does so take his class. And you get to call him Doug which is pretty cool. Be sure to compliment his Frye boots.

The work isn't hard as long as you follow instructions and the speeches aren't as scary as they could be since he makes the class feel relaxed.

Doug was awesome! He gives you like 5 unexcused absences, which was perfect for a non-traditional college student like myself. Quizzes and exams are heavily related on the material covered in the lectures and easy to study for. Speeches had clear and concise expectations of them. Lectures we never boring, he is so funny.

Doug is a great guy. If you don't like public speaking, he probably can't change that, but he will make it a lot easier on you. He walks you through how to improve, get less nervous, and how to structure a well organized speech. As for the tests, just take notes and read through them a few times. He will tell you whats on the test, so no tricks.

I took Doug for Theatre Appreciation. He was super easy to get along with and made everything easy. If you don't like public speaking, don't worry, his classroom is very laid back. For our grades we had 4 group projects, a play critique, and 2 exams. I would highly recommend this class, it was fun! He also gives 5 unexcused absences which is a plus

The class is based on projects and Doug will help you the entire process. He's very understanding and always willing to help. He grades a little tough, probably because he helps so much, but overall his class is fun and interesting! Definitely recommend him to complete humanities requirements.

Had Professor Joiner for Theatre Appreciation, genuinely such a cool class. It mostly consisted of various projects that are presented in front of the class. He's always willing to help and gives the best feedback, taking time to make sure each individual student grasps the concept. He makes the class feel very laid back and low-stress.

Professor joiners theater class was one of my FAVORITE so far! He is very understanding about everything and overall it was a very fun and easy class. Even if you arent too big into theater it is very interesting.

If you want an easy A, take Dougs class seriously! You ARE NOT required to act or have any experience. You have 4 projects and 2 tests which he gives study guides for. Very easy and straightforward. If you fail this class it's 1000% your fault. Just be creative and have fun!

I felt as though he did not delve into teaching us more about theater than I would want. However, his acting class was excellent and would highly recommend. Wonderful human being and a talented director.

Professor Joiner is engaging, lenient, & makes learning fun. His classes are stress-free with clear material, two exams, no pop quizzes, and simple assignments. He allows plenty of time for projects and offers alternatives for those uncomfortable with speaking. A supportive and creative professor he ensures every student has the chance to succeed.

Doug Joiner, since he rather you call him that, is an amazing professor. His classes are super easy. He does recommend using a textbook, but I did everything without the textbook. Please don't get Exam 2 and the Final confused like I did. If you are afraid of presenting, he gives you the option to record the presentation ahead of time and walk out.

I really enjoyed this class, especially coming from a theatre background. I loved every project and performance I did, and Professor Joiner was amazing. He was straight to the point and fun to learn from. Highly recommend for a fun elective!

This class was fun, and the expectations were easy to meet. If you pay attention during the lectures, the exams are a breeze. The projects are where the bulk of the points you can earn come from, but the professor gives you plenty of time and so many class days to work on the projects. If you're not a fan of public speaking, he gives alternatives.

Loved Doug to death. Super easy class and his grading is pretty lenient. He assigns like 4 major projects and you have quizzes over other works you will have to read but can get away with spark noting them. He will laugh and cut up with you so 100% worth taking even if your not into theatre

Probably my favorite professor on campus, he was so much fun and loved teaching us about his extremely niche plays. The projects were incredibly fun because as long as you keep it relevant to the class you could do literally whatever.

I had Doug for theatre appreciation and acting this semester, and both were great. For theatre, be prepared to read a lot of plays and work on 4+ projects. Don't come into the class expecting an easy A! His directing style for acting is great, and he can easily pinpoint your strengths, weaknesses, and his own slip-ups. Favorite professor so far.
