Dr. Ealey is a superb teacher, and tests are mostly essays! Don't take him if you want an easy A.

Don't take him if you want an A, period. Out of my entire class, one girl got B's on her tests and quizzes, all the rest had C or below. By the time I dropped the course, a week before the cutoff, 10 out of our class of 30 had dropped. He has the deserved reputation as the hardest teacher on campus.
The blatant left-wing agenda that permeated every lecture was simple indoctrination. This professor is intolerant of political philosophies that differ from his, and this will be reflected in your grade. Doesn't cover course material, instead focuses on his agenda, classroom environment is hostile.
A hard teacher, but a great one. If you want an A you will have to work for it. I enjoyed his class very much. Tests consists of several essays. He gives the info in lecture.
Absolutely one of the worst professors on campus. Period. He's earned the bad reputation he has and I've had many students warn me away from him and several who have noted that 2/3 of his students drop his class. Doesn't teach the course material and tests don't reflect what he talks about. Awful!
Good teacher, as long as you pay attetion to what he says and study!! You will do good. A's in this class are nearly impossible, but he definatley taught me how to study
Great teacher, really challenged the class. Don't expect an A though
He's unable to be neutral and never gets down on your level. Like everyone else says, don't take him if you want an A. In fact, don't take him if you just want to come out of his class with a better understanding of our government and current issues. His own agenda conflicts with us learning anything
If you like to get bashed regularly, this is the professor for you. Proclaims to be "not smart," but remains a pompous, ego-centric man to those that would voice their opinion. His classes push his agenda and those that stand in the way will be run down carelessly like a bum from the streets of D.C.
I don't know what class you attended but I thought Dr. Ealey was great! At end of the course I couldn't figure out which side of vote he was on. Totally unbiased! I worked hard, enjoyed material, and YES, I earned an "A". If you can't handle it THIS class, you shouldn't be voting in elections!
Dr. Ealey does have high expectations for his class, however an "A" is NOT impossible. This is my second class with him and he does NOT have a liberal agenda. Some people are just not open to the experience of a place where ideas R freely expressed and/or argued. His door is ALWAYS open 4 students!!
He is a very nice man, but he is not cut out for teaching.
i've had some pretty bad teachers before but he tops the cake. Not only is he unclear during his lectures but he never finishes the chapters that he quizes and/or tests on. He is easy distracted in class and never finishes his lectures. If you enjoy teaching yourself then he's the teacher for you.
I project my opinopn freely in dr ealeys class and have even sat in his office while discussing various topics. I think he is a great teacher! These other students are giving him a bad rap simply because they wont read the material! wake up folks this is the real world!!
I thought he was a good teacher, the tests and quizes came straight from the book and notes, and I would recommend him to someone. I did have to study but not for hours and I managed to get a B in his class. I learned a lot too!
If you want to sit quietly while a pompous, arrogant, left-wing extremist advocates (and blathers about) his own personal opinions (which often lack moral guidance), here you go. By the way, he doesn't cover all the material that appears on his tests, just so you know. Take Dr. Young, he's a far better teacher than Ealey can ever hope to be.
Dr. Ealey talks in circles, every thing he says sounds the same. He also returns grades late. If you take his class plan on teaching your self and know all vocab and essay questions for the test. I managed with a B but wouldn't recomend him.
A bowtie, a beard, and a brain......oh my! But once you are in his class you get difficult and negative rhetoric, lots of conjecture, little direction, go figure it out yourself. Then your classwork is returned late, assignments changed at the drop of a hat. Very disorganized.
Horrible teacher, be prepared to teach yourself, go to class and do not listen to the debates he will just make you angry, very insensitive man, he teaches his lectures with no organization, cannot finish one sentence before starting another, do not recommend
If you listen to what he says,go to the website on the back of the book, and study you will do fine.
Dr. Ealey's class wasn't hard at all, in fact it was right on the cusp on being very easy. He gives a lot of information and tests you on very little. If you read the book and write down his notes you'll be fine. He curves and gives you a lot of chances to make extra credit. He's fun to talk to and knows alot! Wonderful professor, highly reccommend
I think he's awful. he gives us tests over stuff that isn't in the book and are in his notes but he gives us the notes after he gives us the test. it's impossible to understand this class.
He is extremely hard and very unclear. He likes to have class debates a lot, where if you dont agree with his point of view, you are on the losing side. If you want to bust your butt in a class, and keep your mouth shut so as not to offend anyone, this is your class. A big disappointment.
Very interesting class, he knows what he's talking about and the discussions are always interesting and he's willing to accept others' opinions, as long as you can back up why you think that way, but most students can't and just assume everyone thinks the way they do. Read the book and go over the notes and you'll be fine. You'll learn a lot.
He's awful. If you are even considering taking him for a class- DON'T!!! You will regret it!
he is the worst teacher i have had do not take him if you want to pass because its almost impossible and if you need help he wont help you
Over a fifty percent drop rate from Political Science?!? Come on, this is a REQUIRED class....you study, and you learn, that he can fail you. Period. There are two great Political Science professors at GC besides this egotist, Dr. Young and Dr. MacFarland. They are much more helpful and interesting. Check them out.
Very funny!!! He gives alot of quiz, usually one every week. He gives notes everyday, but he does take some time to have fun and cut up. His test can be difficult, but studing hard really helps. I would recommend this class for anyone interested in government.

Nice guy... hard class. His material for tests and quizzes are not what is covered in class. You basically have to memorize the book to do good.
A moody man. One day he is pleasant, the next day rude. Always talks down to us about race issues and not what we are supposed to learn in Political Science. Nobody knows what to study, he is very unhelpful. Worst professor I have.
I dont know what students at GC have against Ealey, but he is probably one of the most educated teachers I have had. Quit whining about how he doesn't help you enough-he has an entire website for each class with study questions for each test! Just because you have to actually OPEN the book and READ doesnt mean that his class is more difficult. Quit
A jerk. Condiscending and unhelpful.
Very difficult class. Should not have been as difficult as he made it. When the class average is below 50 there is a problem. Don't take him if you don't have to. He is likeable enough but not a good teacher. SORRY!

MEAN!!! CANNOT TEACH CLEARLY AT ALL!!
Very nice guy and cares about his students. He expects a lot out of them but if you pay attentions and read the book you will do fine. He is the reason I became a Political Science major.
I think he was a very good teacher! I made a C in the class, but if I'd spent more time actually READING the material I would have done much better. He cares about students and has a passion for teaching.
Required class, wound up taking it from an incredibly unhelpful and opinionated man. Thanks for making me work harder than at any other class and rewarding me with the worst grade. I'm sorry I didn't see things your way when you told me my opinion mattered, I thought you were serious--the best part is, he thinks he's lenient on students.
This guy was horrible. I'm not a stupid person and I failed everything. He pushes his opinions, and if you ask for help, he doesn't give it. He contradicts the BOOK!!! Don't ever take him!!!!
Excellent teacher! His quizzes and test are hard, but if you actually study, you should pass them all. He does expect a lot out of you, but if you put in the effort, you will walk away with a sense of accomplishment. Helpful Hint: If GSC is just the 13th grade for you, and you don’t want to study or open a book, don’t take him you will surely fail!
WORST TEACHER EVER! Do not take him! on the first test we had,17 out of 24 people failed. That should tell him something. I ended up dropping b/c he was the worst teacher. he does not help anyone and his lectures contradict the book. expect a quiz once a week and impossible tests!
Do not take Mr. Ealey. He makes the class more difficult than it needs to be. The point is to learn! He is confusing and contradicts himself and the book often. Had some interesting debates in the class and he is friendly enough person, however had to drop his class. 4.0 inall other classes would have received a C or less and studied a lot!
He is soo hard do not take him
I cannot believe that someone that seemed so easygoing and understanding can turn into such a closed minded and harsh professor. And quit calling me the 'republican' in the room!!! Terrible!!
Unclear. Unfair. Brutal. Very condiscending. Drops most of the people from ths class every semester (I am PRAYING for a C and I have worked hard). Take the other POLS professors if you can (Young and MacFarland), they are fair and interesting. This guy is just terrible.
Great teacher. His class is hard and he fills you up with new information every class, but study and you will do well. He has been very helpful and spends as much time as is necessary to help students understand the material. However, if you want an easy class that you can just show up to and get an A, this is not it. Take it seriously or fail.
Agree with EVERYTHING or you'll be one of the majority that won't make it. He stays fixed on his ridiculous attendance policy, his obsession with race, with religion, with your character as a student...oh yeah...this was a MANDATORY American Goverment class!! Thanks for that D, cost me my HOPE and I learned nothing except how terrible YOU are!

Very very hard! He grades essays very unfairly considering the amount of time you have to write them. To pass a test you must read the text book then read it again and then maybe one more time.
I've dropped it.........thought I had what it took even though my friends had warned me............THIS GUY IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!
I agree with the others, I can't stand this professor. The worst on campus, I think.
Ugh... This class is ridiculous. Tests are WAY too hard and so are the quizzes. Unless you want to devote your life to the class, then don't take it. He gives a "study guide" for each test but it only helps with the essay questions. I studied my notes and read the book thoroughly and bombed the first test. Had to drop the class. DO NOT TAKE!
I didn't learn anything about leadership in class, however, I did get to practice some when he got mad told me to leave his office. He didn't want to answer any questions about his undefined grading policy, so he ignored my concerns and asked me to leave. The department head is currently sorting things out, but this proud liberal man may end up w
Well, freedom of speech is definitely used by the other students. I only laugh when people say he is the hardest teacher. This is Gainesville State College...Not a BIG university. You have to work really hard in this class and his expectations are high.Too weak to handle the challenge? You can study harder or cry about it.Let's see which one works.
This teacher was usually not prepared for class. Made lots of factual errors. Took FOREVER to return tests. Used the class time to force his views on you. While claiming the opposite, he discouraged any dissenting views.
This man is a horrible teacher. I'm in his Intro to Religious Philosophy class, and he is probably the worst professor I've -ever- had. He doesn't answer questions, and when he does he answers it "What do YOU think?" He also has an extremely biased opinion, and doesnt know how to keep up with roll. I would never wish this teacher on anyone.
Teacher atlks at his class rather than informing
can i give his guy a 0? NOT willing to help. NOT willing to listen to anyone else's opinions except his own. ALWAYS had to feel he was right, even when he was clearly wrong.
HORRIBLE teacher. DO NOT take this class, he does not follow his schedule, puts students down when we try to answer a question, VERY opinionated. He does not answer emails and when you do try to talk to him, he is very rude. Definately do NOT recommend taking his class.
This is the hardest teacher I have ever had. If you don't like what he is saying get used to it because he says the same things the whole semester. I worked my butt off and I made a D... Definately don't take his class, you will regret it!!!
His class is very hard. I would not recommend him to anyone! make sure you read. A good majority of the test comes from the book. Also make sure you know the court cases. The tests are very hard. each test and quiz has an essay with hard topics. but he does offer extra credit throughout the semester.
Be prepared to study! Half of the class will drop and he will reward you for staying but not if you give up. He wants you to try...HARD He's far from easy. Quizzes come without warning. Plan on studying a lot and not just the day before. Essay questions are a big part and come from notes Check them on his website!A lot of test m/c are from the book
I got any A.But *DO NOT* take this guy.Unorganized.Pushes his uninformed views on students & attacks or dismisses students despite PROVEN wrong.Does NOT promote student's thought.could say LOT more, basically worst 'professor' ever, should be fired.
Great professor, you just have to work very hard. At the end you will see that you have learned many useful things in his class. If you have trouble in his class, go see him during office hours. He will help you to better understand the material. Always demonstrate interest towards the subject and you will be ok.
this was one of the best and fairest teachers i have ever had. you will get what you put into the class. if you study you will pass. i got an A, if you do not study or pay attention you will not pass the class. great teacher overall.
Proof that my thoughts and opinions can be used as weapons against me even when I am asked for them.
Way to hard. Look for another professor!!!!!
The worst, absolute worst, ever. Nice guy outside the classroom but an awful professor. Judgemental, condecending, and hateful in class.
Horrible. I had to drop this class because it sucked so bad. I hated it so much. Not easy at all. Tests and quizzes have nothing to do with what he was talking about in class.
Dr. Ealey misspeaks in every lecture, does not know Georgia government well enough to teach anything about it, and uses words improperly. You will have to work very very hard to pass his class, and you will learn a lot. HE IS AN EXTREME ****... E-X-T-R-E-M-E! He can be fun and witty at times. This cals is not for anyone wanting an easy grade.
Dr. Ealey's mouth is as offenseive to light colored individuals as the confederate flag is to dark colored inviduals. He only sites court cases reflecting freedom of blacks and he dislikes whites. People like him are why we have race issues still today. He perpetuates it! He doesn't want equality, he only wants supremacy. It's grossly offensive.
Dr. Ealey frequently misspeaks when discussing subject matter. When you try to question it, he swears he did not say that! His tests are worded in such a way that you need to rethink everything you know just to make a D. Frequently uses things like double negatives and has not once clearly defined the meaning of any case we talked about. RUN!!!
Great teacher. People don't give him enough credit. You are actually expected to do some work. Quizzes are based on reading, if you read the book, the quizzes will seem somewhat easy. Challenges opinions to find out what it is based on.
Seriously, only Dr. Ealey could be leaving the positive comments on here. ALL negative comments are true and I never believe in these ratings much but trust an older, wiser student who knows a lot about people. If you are of any race other than black, this class will make you angry. RUN! RUN!
Worst and hardest teacher at the college.
Anyone saying that professor Ealey is **** or mean to any color or type of people is just trying to cover up their own hate. He is a woderful professor and knows his stuff. He expects you to do the same. Teaches a great class and you learn a ton. Be ready to work but be ready to gain alot from your work. :)
blah blah blah.thats all you learn from douglas. don't ask him a question because he will ramble forever. he sends you quizs thru email without letting you know in class. his tests are ungodly hard. first exam in my class 5 ppl passed. what a horrible teacher. he also calls you out in class all the time. get ready to hear ya know a million times
Worst teacher EVER. If you have opinions other than his own radical ones, don't bother talking. EXTREMELY condicending. Gets off greatly on telling people who disagree with him that they are 'wrong'. Says stuff like "white people think they can dictate what patriatism is because they are white". if you're not liberal or black don't bother taking.
This guy is not teaching to teach. he seems like his goal is to humiliate anyone that enjoys participating in class. If you don't agree with him, don't bother talking. He cuts people off before they are able to finish their point. INCREDIBLY disrespectful and dictorial. He doesn't teach, it's more like preeching, complete with bible scriptures.
He is thoughtful and interesting every day.
Difficult class; do not take if you want an easy A. You will have to work for your grades. Professor knows his stuff and is very helpful when you need it. Do not take him in the fall semester of an election year, because he'll give up half the lecture period per class to discuss the various things regarding it. We fell far behind because of this.
He was late every other class, yet if the students were late, they were counted absent. He would give assignments the night before class via email. He had a very bias liberal opinion, and rather than class dissuction, which is a requirement of class, we would listen to him rant on liberal ideas. Ideas that he repeted everyday.
AWFUL. He shouldn't be teaching at GSC, or any other public or private college. He belittles his students and makes you feel stupid. If you don't agree with his stupid ideas then you are cut off whenever you try to speak in class. He was late all the time, yet students were counted absent even if late. Talks down to his students, just AVOID HIM!!
I saw some ridiculous comments posted here, so I'm going to address them. He does not talk down to students and has shown the upmost respect to them when they are speaking. He does not bash or beliefs, but rather challenges them to evaluate their beliefs. And he sent assignments last minute because his hand was forced, not because he wanted to.
He seems to lecture about the same things every day even as the topic changes. They're pointless, but you have to go or your grade will suffer. The key to doing well in this class is to READ THE BOOK! I'm not going to sit here and bash Ealey, but he is less than no help. If you read and take your own notes, you will do fine.
I did not like the class but i have no problem with Dr.Ealey. He does sent emails with stuff due the next day so chekc your email! His test are hard but if you read the book than you will make it!
very difficult to understand not helpful. tests do not go along with notes. You teach your self from the book
Worst teacher ever. What a flake. DONT NOT TAKE HIM! His class had a definate GPA DROP side effect!
I studied hard for every test, hours. I made steady 76-78's. He just didn't explain things well in my opinion.
3.66 GPA and had to drop this class. Worst ever professor. He is ****, condescending, and punishes you with surprise essays, 5 of them, if you have a different opinion. Most moody, angry person I have ever met.It does not matter how hard you study, because he wants to fail you. This class is his bully pulpit for his radical beliefs.
Very disappointing. Thought I would love this class. Whole class is discussion.Tells you not to listen to political pundits and find qualified sources, then gives you Liberal, opinionated articles from Newspapers. What a joke.Shoots down everything you say. HE is RIGHT, your always wrong. Anything positive on here about him, sounds like him in class
He claims to have gone to seminary and be religious, however, he sure believes and crams down your throat the beliefs of one of the most liberal President and Congress, in a long time. If you wear a ball cap, expect to take it off during his class.Expect to be told how bad you are as a student, every class, and that you need to work harder, like him
Most of us have an open mind, and do not mind people with different opinions. But, we do not want to be dis-respected by a radical, angry, condescending professor who only has a job because of us as paying customers. Once you take his class you will come to realize everything defending him, on here,is the same stuff he preaches in class.
I think that Ealey was a great teacher. He is open minded as a person and that also effects his teaching in an awesome way. It's clear that he is oppinionated and has his own beliefs but at no time did he ever force them onto anyone. He desires for his students to think critically and hold their own set of beliefs. He respects and values everyone
lots of site visits, lots of reading and lots of papers! he gives a lot of work, but as long as you read, he won't give any tests. his classes are interesting b/c they are interactive. he's a very smart teacher and he does a good job of not offending people of dif. religions
Very difficult because he tends to be vague with assignments/instruction. Will play the devil's advocate (which causes some to think him open-minded) but, in the end, wants you to think the same way he does. Advice: observe him and him interacting with others, first, to get your bearing, then participate in dicussion. Be punctual/prepared for class
He seems to put people down in order to make it appear he knows the material, but he does not know the material. Dont know where he got Ph.D., but they must be handing them out like candy if he got one.
Let's just put it like this: the entire class was failing. (NOT J/K). Test were graded very harshly and although he was approachable, he taught this 1101 class like everyone was majoring in Political Science. This is supposed to be an introduction class. The powerpoints are atleast 4 years old & the textbook doesn't correspond w/ what he's teaching
Definately not an easy class. Exams cover lectures and book material. You will have to study to pass, but it's not impossible. I enjoyed the class.
Attendance is strict, will count you absent if you are seconds late. Lessons are scattered, projects/papers are graded word by word. NOT an easy A. Unless you are profoundly interested in the subject or put most of your study time in this class you will not likely get an A.
very tough
Do not take this professor! Do not be deceived by his approachable manner. He classes are adversarial. Wrote a 8 page paper, he read first two pages of it, gave me a 0. In fact gave 12 of the 16 students 0s on their papers. Two weeks after midterms and still on Chapter 2. Its not a Global Issues class, its an African Class. Taking him to the dean.
He teaches a 2000 level class like its a 1001 class but expects 4000 level work.
yes you do have to study and pay attention in his class. he is a good teacher. you can't blame the teacher if you didn't do the work
He seems to know his stuff well, and can joke on occasion. However, he emphasizes on only Christianity and no other religion although it's a WORLD RELIGIONS class. No tests which is good, but he gives out papers that are nearly impossible to make an A on. When asking questions he doesn't give you a direct answer, and puts you down. Intellectual tho
Hard teacher for sure. I enjoyed the content of the class, but the tests were outrageous and the whole class did poorly on ALL of them.
This teacher is awful. he appears open minded but if a student voices an opinion different than his own he dismisses it.when students answer questions no matter how they answer its wrong & he is condescending & unclear in his answers. power points do not coincide with the book. it is more of an African studies class than a global issues class.
1) GIves Conflicting instructions then gives a zero for"inadequate" work. 2) Doesn't debate issues, openly mocks you in front of the class. 3) Does not talk about Global issues, rants and raves on religion and Africa. 4) Constantly berates the class on work, and how college isn't high school. 5) Expects Graduate level work, but doesn't tell you.
Must read the book!
His instructions are vague and it takes him a couple of times to explain it clearly. There's no "final" for this class, just a big project (easy but long). He uses the book A LOT. Take his class if you're a good writer because there's a lot of small papers. Be sure you can back up everything you say! Attendance on movie days are mandatory!
Only issue is that he is very unclear about his assignments. He says one thing on day and changes it the next. No one understands his directions and it can become very, very aggravating. Overall he is a very friendly guy and has a welcoming personality just be prepared for a lot of busy work and confusion about what is going on half the time..
Seems like a nice guy but doesn't give clear directions. The movies he selects for class really bother me. They are very graphic and I would rather get a 0 than watch them. If any other professor were teaching this class I would switch. Wouldn't take him.
He is/was a fascinating, intelligent and bow-tie wearing professor. While he may be a little unclear in his directions at times, he makes up for it in willingness to move students along in the progression of their education. Cool guy. Hard class. You'll have to work for the grade you want. Better be able to back yourself up on beliefs.
This is a VERY hard class. He is very unclear in his instructions. He doesn't listen to your side of arguments and he will embarrass you in front of the entire class. I do not really like him as a person, much less a teacher. Very hard, and very boring class. I was mad pretty much every day.
Lots of site visit. Lots of papers. 2 major projects. Very few grades. Very good teacher, very frusterating and pointless class. Too many circular arguments that people mad. Cool guy though. NO tests as long as you read.
knowledgeable professor. seems as though he has a lot of outside things going on and the class was not his main concern.
I loved this class from beginning to end. He is an awesome professor if you learn to listen. Don't enter his classroom without facts otherwise they become opinions. This class is only built to make you think so don't take it personal. READ!! ATTEND!! LAUGH!! Visit those sites or else!!
Extremely vague. Does not follow his assignment instructions during grading. Avoid him.
Instructor has an underlying motive. If you are fresh out of highschool and treat him like a dominant figure you get a good grade. If you are a non traditional student, you start at a B and than you have to work very very very hard to keep it. Very unfair and two faced. Never transparent. Does not know how to teach. Makes learning very difficult.
Dr. Ealey is a pleasant teacher who knows his subject very well.
Very rude as a teacher and a person. Does not care to listen to students' opinions. Very pompous. Does not let students fix mistakes they take credit for. Causes many students grief. Very unclear in his directions, says one thing one day and something different the next. Openly mocks students in class. Creates a hostile environment. AVOID his class
He was rude and demeaning. He was not clear in his instructions and cannot remeber his own due dates. I learned nothing of world religions. Site visits are ridiculous and inconvenient. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Unorganized teacher. Frequently blamed students for their confusion, but generally, the confusion was the fault of the instructor. This was a Global Issues class. It more closely resembled a diversity and religion class. Instructor was very punitive and treated the class as if we were third grades. Better off taking another instructor.
rude and unorganized. Dont take him!
Unorganized but decent. A bit anal about how things are done [if he assigns a 2pg paper, it has to be EXACTLY two pages]. You have to go on 4 site visits, which can be inconvenient. Lots of little quizzes, 2 large projects, and a couple essays/response papers. Difficult class. Ealey is funny and kind though.
Hardest class I have ever taken, it calls for a lot of time and effort. I enjoyed the overall class, but did not care for the prof.He may mean well, but he reticules students individually and as a group and will not allow for any slip ups even if you own up to them.He is unreasonable and disorganized,he cant recall directions he gave us in class.
He is the RUDEST person I have ever met.Picks on students in class.I didn't receive any grades until AFTER MIDTERM!I didn't receive all of my papers I wrote for him until TWO weeks before the end of the semester. Then to learn that I was failing and should have dropped the class, but it was too late. Will not talk to you about grades, doesn't care.
Very nice man.He clearly states when all out of book quizzes are due in the syllabus and he wants them done a certain way and he will not remind you about the due date. Very hard grader so make sure your work is well thought out. You should only take his class if you are self motivated and have time to do a tremendous amount of quizzes, and papers
STAY AWAY!! Very unorganized. Provided assignments for the current semester with prior semester due dates and then would not clarify! Expects to be treated with respect, yet the only respect he offers students is to refer to you by Mr/Ms. Does not answer emails until it fits his schedule-2 weeks later if at all!DO NOT TAKE HIM.
The most unethical class I have ever taken. Douglas Ealey doesn't know the proper dates he assigned things, does not give back any grades throughout the semester. He ridicules students and belittles them in class to the point they are almost in tears. Check your grades thoroughly. Everyone's group project was off by 3 points. Don't take with him!!!
Horrible professor. everyone else nailed it. Makes fun of students. Has no passion for teaching. Miserable man. AVOID TAKING HIM AT ALL COST
I liked Dr. Ealey. He made class fun and answered any questions. He requires site visits which sucks if you don't have gas or know your way around the area. He was fun and graded fairly easy
He is very unorganized and seems like his main focus is in another class besides ours. We are STILL halfway ON Ch. 2 and it's almost half way through the semester!!! I really don't recommend his class if you just want if you don't really care about govt and just want pass. Ridicules you if you make a mistake even tho he is unorganized himself.
Hardest teacherclass I've ever taken. I took him for American Government and would not recommend. He is not specific at all one what he wants in his assignments. He often makes fun of other students. One big thing that a hated about his class was that he would argue his beliefs with a student until the student agreed that he(the professor) won.
Spare yourself the misery that is this man He would tell us to do specific things and then change it, he would grade on criteria not given, and everyone in the class hated him. I was actually excited to take this class, but I still know nothing and I hope I never have to deal with the subject again
Dr. Ealey's answer to every question is "it's in the syllabus", he even wears a shirt that says that, but the syllabus is full of errors i.e. an assignment due on April 18th for a fall class? When you question this he stammers and says he will look into it. He is also the slowest grader, project turned in Sept. 20th still no grade on Dec. 1st!
Dr. Ealey was possibly the rudest professor that I have ever had to take. He grades your opinion, gives out quizes on chapters that the class has not gone over and requires site visits that are confusing to figure out when the grade is due and MAKE SURE THAT YOU BRING BACK EVIDENCE FROM YOUR SITE VISITS! he hands out zeros like candy. Grades late.
Need further details or help on your assignments? "It's in the syllabus." That's all you'll ever get. Unclear instructions that will cause him to not grade your assignments. Missed two days with doctor notes, dropped a letter grade. I've never made less than an A on a paper until his class. Rude and argues his own opinion over students'. BEWARE.
Horribly unorganized, was very unclear and rude to students that needed help or challenged his opinion. Don't expect him to email you back, he told me to email him about an assignment I missed when I stayed after class to ask him about it, never replied and gave me a zero for it. Also got a 0 for my three or four absences with doctor notes.
It has been seven years since I took his class and I am still having nightmares.
AWFUL! The meanest professor I have had so far. He does not respect students, and he will not answer questions. Students can get in trouble for yawning or having their phones out. High school much!?
Dr. Ealey is not a nice person at all. He demands respect from students but shows none in return. He is EXTREMLY Rude and degrading to students. Does not create a comfortable learning environment. He will argue with a student over ANYTHING!!! Seems at first like he is fine but his "charm" is very deceiving!
Super easy class, just make sure to "read" the chapters when he tells you to, because he will have some pop quizes. You have take home quizzes and they're super easy. Come to class, his lectures are boring but you don't really do anything in class. There are NO TEST in this class, he grades pretty easy with the papers. Be sure to do the projects
Don't skip class, you only have like two absence, this class is so easy. Just do what he tells you and you will get an A in the class.
Don't expect grades back this century. He's also extremely vague.
hate it!
He is extremely racist. If you're not black, he will not like you. Gives pop quizzes, if you miss 3 days, you fail, is extremely disrespectful to students, calls on you and make you feel very stupid.
Seriously, don't even bother with him. since he's the only world religion prof on campus, find another class to take if u can. Just don't even bother. As a 3rd year student, worst teacher I have taken. Takes months to give u back papers, if even. It seemed like he just winged his lectures. He didn't know what homework was due or where we were.
Rough around the edges not very understanding.
This class is the most satisfying A I have ever made. You have to take care of you in this class. He does not typically warn anyone about approaching deadlines. Print out the syllabus and put it in the front of your binder. You must go on "site visits" to different religious sites on your own time and write papers on your experiences. Difficult A.
If you value your sanity do not take this man.
I made an 0 on my final site visit because the instructions were unclear. He refused to even read the paper after the first paragraph. I tried to talk to him about his unclear instructions and he made me cry. I also got an F on the final project because it wasn't "creative enough." Even though it met all the other criteria. Do NOT take him.
Dr. Ealey is an awesome professor! He clearly states in his assignments what he's looking for. Follow all guidelines and do as he says and you will do fine! He is avid about participation and reading, so make sure to show up, but should something come up he will work with you. Definitely recommend.
He is not as tough as he will seem at the beginning of the semester. There are more than a few chances for extra credit (9 scranton quizzes, 5 online extra credit quizzes, 2 papers, and an entire letter grade boosted for showing him your voter id) The syllabus is a copy of last semester's, and our's did have a lot of mistakes. Eventually did fix it
Does not care if you have technical difficulties turning in things. If it is late by a minute you get a zero. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Terrible professor. Constantly makes racial comments throughout class. Lectures drag on for what feels like days. Don't even bother asking him a question because all you get back is "it's in the syllabus" even if it is not. Unless you want a reason to drop out of college, don't take him as a professor.
This professor is awful. I would not recommend anyone taking his classes. He has so much work and all he does in class is lecture off of a power point. You have quizzes all the time and projects and site visits. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!
SPARE YOURSELF FROM THIS MAN!!! Get out of his class if you have him, I'm begging you. Nothing but pain and misery comes from this class. He argues about anything an everything and simply enough, he's straight up disrespectful. Never emails you back and never tells you anything, rather, he'll just say, and i quote, "It's in the syllabus". Just run
First off, he loves to tell you that you look at the syllabus to avoid confrontation; which is funny considering he teaches leadership and conflict resolution. He is stubborn, disrespectful, pretentious, unprofessional. BTW, my final grade was an 89.71 and I received a B in the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF POSSIBLE!!! Its not worth the headache!
Fun guy who gives tons of extra credit and take home tests. Just gotta make sure u got good grammar cause he'll dock you heavily for that
He is extremely rude, disrespectful, lacks communication, doesn't get back to you, as an advisor he expects you to have everything done so he doesn't have to do it and he doesn't feel the need to hold a conversation. I have never dealt with someone like this before.. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! save yourself!!!! (If I could leave the rating as a 0, I would)
I love him! I had him for two semesters both religions and american gov and he is my favorite professor. Just know always bring your book to class, there is a lot of reading and long essays. Just don't get behind on your work and you will do fine!
Professor Ealey is not difficult if you enjoy writing papers. You have papers and quizzes as assignments. You have to visit sites and write papers on them. You can pass the quiz if you have your book. He takes mandatory attendance. He has extra credit you can do. The final is a project.
worst class ever taken.
Professor Ealey is not difficult, you just have to put forth the effort into the online quizzes and papers. Quizzes are based on the book, read in order to find the answers. He makes you visit places and write papers on them. He gives chances for extra credit, the final is a project. He can be a real gem when he wants to be.
Although he is a tough grader he is pretty chill and funny. I recommend not using your cellphone because he will call you out. Honestly the textbook is required only for the quizzes but the questions are all online on like quizlet. As long as you attend class and do the quizzes and papers youll be fine.
Demands respect in the classroom, no cell phones, laptops, or side conversations; participating will incresase your enjoyment and enhance your learning; do the work and you'll learn something about yourself.
I dont know why he has such a poor rating. I'm not a nerd or anything but i really enjoyed his class and him as a professor. Really old school but has a lot to teach you! Loved this class and i would take it again.
For a man who demands respect from his students, he sure doesnt give it to them. Unresponsive to emails. He loves to say its in the syllabus to any question. Does not notify more than once for date changes. Does not understand that people have jobs or kids, which he refers to as excuses. Theres a lot more I could say, but Im out of characters
He has us read a new chapter every week. Due to group discussion: READ. Also, there are two site visit essays, not that bad: and an extra credit option. Two other papers as well. He has quizzes typically due sunday at 11:30 PM. There are extra credit opportunities. Voting ID card and a bunch of quizzes. You take a pre test and posttest(same test).
Dr. Ealey is well-educated and very intelligent; ask him a question about history and he will give you a passionate, informative answer. His teaching style is based on reading a textbook and reciting the information. He expects a lot out of his students, but his standards lead to harsh grading. His grading is inconsistent on papers.
At first I was scared because is not my strongest subject. But his way of teaching about government and rights was fantastic! one of my best professors, he likes to hear the students opinions. All his quizzes were online and outside of class so just read the book needed and you will be fine. His class was one of my best experiences of the semester.
Ealey was humorous and enjoyable as a professor. He is strict, but he is knowledgeable about what he teaches and willing to help. He is BIG on class participation and reading the textbook, and his lectures expand upon the readings. You do need to be in class, but he offers alternatives and helps make arrangements if absent due to necessity.
I'll start by saying this: Professor Ealey is a wonderful lecturer. You will feel engaged and the discussions will be very rewarding. However, Ealey does not clear up what he wants on essays and takes forever to grade them. You may have an A only to end up with a C after getting every essay back in the last week not knowing what he wanted at all.
Dr Ealey was a tough professor. His quote was "its in the syllabus". Definitely tough love from him but I really enjoyed his class despite what others say. If you keep up with the reading and engage in discussions, the class is fairly easy. The only hard part was the group paper but that also depends on your group members. I would retake his class.
This is genuinely the worst course I have ever taken. He is so generic in his instructions and expects the world from the papers. You have to take weekly quizzes and the shortest one was 75 questions, the longest being 125. He rambles through the entire class and asks questions that everyone is required to answer out loud. Would not recommend.
The whole class is basically on you. There are weekly quizzes on chapter readings that average about 75 questions each. Lectures really aren't based on content but you're expected to participate. The papers are graded super harshly and his instructions are very unclear. Favorite quote is "read the syllabus" and grades will NEVER be rounded.
WORSE Professor EVER!! I missed 2 days of class due to illness. I emailed Professor to let him know why I was absent. I was not allowed to make up or turn in missed work late-got zeros. I was marked absent for a 3rd time, (I was standing outside classroom door coughing) for being "late". He gave me a zero for Attendance which caused me to fail.
One of the worst professors I have had. Weekly quizzes based on the textbook, 3 site vists (1 being optional), and 2 papers. His instructions are very unclear and he demands a lot. Emails back way to late. Very strict. There are extra credit quizzes but they only count for so little so there's no point. Would not recommend.
horrible class
Do not take this professor if you can avoid it. You do weekly quizzes on textbook chapters that are 75+ questions each & at least 3 papers throughout the semester. Professor Ealey was vague and unclear on the guidelines for these papers and graded very harshly on all assignments. If you miss more than 3 classes, he takes it out of your grade. 0/10
Dr. Ealey, as others have noted here, is argumentative, uncommunicative, vague with assignments, and stubborn. Actually got into a 40 minute argument with a student on the first day of class because the student tried to question what Dr. Ealey had said during the pre-test we were given. Quizzes are 70+ questions, and how/when to do things unclear.
He is funny sometimes I'll give him that. He will call on people randomly during class over material that may, or may not be in the textbook; really triggered my anxiety to be honest. He will give pop quizzes and if you miss them, you HAVE to retake them. It is a hybrid class and will not let you turn in late assignments. He grades tough.
In the beginning, i didn't know what to expect. After the first two weeks, he gave us a quiz which was 75 questions and we had one every weekend over the chapters in the textbook. He would occasionally give pop quizzes so be prepared. He also was very quick to call on people in class randomly asking questions, which would make everyone anxious.
Ealey gives 5 papers, 2 opt., and grades from both instruction and opinion. He's not flexible with dates, hypocrite about accountability, fails to do his job correctly, forgets to put content into D2L, politically biased, quizzes contain little info from the book, lecture heavy, participation matters, will give pop quizzes worth more the quizzes.
Although Dr. Ealey is a tough professor, he is a great one as well. This class is super easy if you just do the work. Dr. Ealey expects students to do their part in putting in effort in discussions, failure to do so will result in pop quizzes. If you fail this course, its because you didnt try.
Genuinely miserable class. Nightmare from beginning to end. If you EVER have a question make sure to ask it in class, I sent about 4 emails that never got read, let alone answered. You will have a quiz every week, and they are AT LEAST 75 questions a piece. The textbook and all of the quizzes are outdated by a couple years.
I was highly disappointed which resulted in a withdrawal. He does not communicate well with his students. Quizzes and readings do not correlate. Assignment instructions are unclear. He usually forgets to post the lectures. I do not recommend it unless necessary.
Dr. Ealey is not a bad teacher. The material and how he taught was not the issue, it was more his ridiculous policies that he can't even keep up with. "Look at the syllabus" is what you will hear if you ask ANY general questions about the class. Due dates are strict. If you missed class do not ask what you missed, he will yell.
He is a cool guy, however he is one of the hardest professors I've ever taken. His quizzes are weekly, which covers a 30-40 page chapter thats ~75 questions long. They are very hard, and take much time to complete. Sometimes there are pop-quizzes over the same chapter in class, that means you have two quizzes to take. He grades papers harshly.
Over half the class dropped the class. The grading is really tough and the professor overlapped the final exam with other exams. The professor rarely responds to emails as well.
Lots of people dropped his class. The lectures were unhelpful and covered nothing for any test or quiz, and led to lots of rambling. He could be very condescending, and the quizzes were insanely long. Made things hard to access, wouldn't answer important email. He did give extra credit though. Posted assignments before you could see them and do it.
Harsh Grading very difficult Very hard
His papers seemed to be graded arbitrarily. He fails to respond to emails in a timely manner. Lectures rarely related to quiz. Very politically biased man.
He's very knowledgable and passionate about this subject which made it easier to learn, but if you miss one class you will be lost. It definitely helps to keep up with the reading. He's a very harsh grader, so incorporate anything talked about in class into them and give it your all. Quizzes are also hard, final exam was not as hard though.
A nice guy, but very harsh on grading. Interesting and passionate on the subject, but also will not answer questions outside of class. You miss any quiz for any reason and you cannot make it up. Gives work over break, and makes you read whole chapters of the textbook over the weekend. Will constantly call on people, do not take if scared of talking
He seems to be completely illiterate when it comes to operating d2l with it being flooded with content from past years and a syllabus full of errors. He is very knowledgeable of the field and actively wants you to participate and think about the various covered topics. He will get annoyed if no one engages in the material. Attendance is graded.
WORST PROFESSOR Ive taken. Attendance mandatory, counts 20% of your grade. everyday he'll say the class list and if you come in right when he skips yours (even if he still taking attendance) UR ABSENT. loves to argue with his students because they have different political views as him. the toughest essay grader even if you try your hardest.
- difficult to communicate with - unreasonable with grading especially on papers - gave me a zero on a paper because I wrote about the wrong topic, but I had previously gotten the topic approved by him - I got a C on every paper, but I had never gotten anything less than an A on a paper prior to this class. - DO THE EXTRA CREDIT
He is a real stickler with everything you do in his class. From the essays down to how you act and believe in. He seems to have a bias against people who do not have the same beliefs as him. One of the main problems with him was changing the grade weights right before the final exam. I went from a A to a D very quickly. Considering not joining.
The professor was very harsh and not recommended to take, if possible. I had a class assignment about notes on a video graded by him based on how he thought they were and not how it is good for me, never knew my real grade until exam week, material came from another book, and was condescending throughout. I was extremely displeased.
Professor Ealey has high expectations, but you'll learn a lot if you put in the work. The quizzes are tough, but unstuck ai helped me prep efficiently. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding class.
If you take Professor Ealey's class, be prepared to attend every single day; otherwise, you'll lose a chunk of your grade. He's quite biased if you take his class, my advice is to "play the game." He's a left-leaning Christian, and anything that doesn't appeal to that view automatically loses points. Do the extra credit.
Avoid him if possible. Very biased, answers all questions with "did you read the syllabus?" assigns weekly 75 question quizzes vaguely related to the textbook and not at all related to the lectures. Do all of the extra credit you can, you will need it. He can be very condescending if you don't share his beliefs. His essay grading is just bizarre.
Gives 75 questions quizzes each week about chapters from textbook. His lectures make no sense and have nothing to do with quiz or finals. Very bias & will call on you in class. Follow the rubric for the essays and you should be good. Do the extra credit it will be needed lol.
Okay, I have seen the past reviews, and I was very scared, but honestly, this class was very fun. The lectures were very interesting, especially if you actually enjoy talking about politics. You have 3 essays and weekly 75-question quizzes, but use your resources, if you know what I mean LOL. Just put effort, and you'll do great.
I don't know why so many people don't like this guy. Yes he will call on you in class, but as long as you participate he can be really chill. The quizzes are long, but the questions are quite literally the definitions in the textbook. He also gives an insane amount of extra credit, as long as you do a portion of that this class is very manageable.
