Great Teacher, funny, open, lot of knowledge

He's a very good teacher and a nice guy.
One of the best teachers at Tech. I normally hate history, but I had to take his class as a requirement, and I ended up taking another one of his classes as a free elective just because I loved his class. Really easy too, and I'll take all the A's I can get here.
He is a good teacher. He gives three research papers to write and they are really easy to get an A on if you have any kind of writing skills. I would definitely recommend taking him over others. He has 2 test and a final. he drops your lowest grade which is awesome. I enjoyed his class and pulled out an A.

Good, easy teacher. Funny too.
Great teacher. I hated history before, but really enjoyed his class. 3 papers, easy to write on old newspaper articles. Tests are half book def'ns, which he gives you ahead of time, and half lecture. funny and intriguing.
PLEASE TAKE THIS GUY! Great teacher, makes history interesting and fun. Funny guy keeps the class awake. Took him over the summer and it was easy A but i also learned alot. Go to class and do the study guides and you'll get an A
If you ever get the chance, take one of his classes. He is an amazing professor.
best teacher i've had at tech. if you have the opportunity to take this class, do so by all means. class is focused on the significance of history, so it is not focused on memorizing facts. the class is very interesting and fun, and flamming always includes life lessons in his lectures.
Great professor. Fair class that is easy to get an A in if you do the work. A pleasure to be around. Good sense of humor.
SO NICE. Loves his students and wants to get to know them so introduce yourself. Such a great contact. Go to class to learn answers to the test. 1/2 test on lecture 1/2 test on book. 3 newspaper article summaries. Gives a study guide which outlines what book questions will be on the test
Dr. Flamming is an absolutely stellar professor. When one is disappointed when class is cancelled, that means a professor is doing something right.
loved him. favorite professor at tech so far. I'm a big history fan, but he made every lecture great. funny guy, really knows his stuff. doesnt make it to hard on you, just really loves what hes doing. id recommend anybody take him, you will enjoy the class
Prof. Flamming is a genuinely hilarious guy. His lectures are long, but you can't learn anything from just looking at the posted slides. Tests are easy multiple choice, 50% lecture and 50% text. I just read the text and paid some attention in class and I got an A. The 1 project is mild research and 3 easy paragraphs.
Great Professor, fair exams, interesting material.
Great guy - great professor. Makes class interesting and memorable. HIGHLY recommend. But don't skip out on class because he makes lectures worthwhile.
Probably the best professor on campus. Turned what many feel is a boring subject into something really interesting. Only gives 3 exams so you do need to make sure you at least go through the book to get an A, but doing so should be easy. You don't have to attend lectures to get an A, but you won't want to miss any of his lectures.
He is an awesome professor who actually cares about his students, and he makes the class interesting and easy. He's everything you would want in a professor
Dr. Flamming is a captivating and hilarious lecturer. I never really understood US history before taking his Post-Reconstruction American History overview, but now I feel like I have a comprehensive understanding of how America got to where it is today. The whole grade is based on 3 multiple choice, 50 question tests.
Great teacher, really into the subject. Hilarious and an awesome guy. This class should be easy as long as you do it right. He gives a list of textbook study guide words and half of every test is only on those (so if you just read the textbook sections on these you should be fine). Other half of each test is on his lectures. 3 tests each 1/3 grade.
What a legend. The class is easy if you take textbook notes ahead of time. Be sure to attend lecture; the powerpoint slides are useless without his accompanying comments. 10/10 would smang
Lectures are 50% of the tests while the textbook is the other. The lectures were amazing. I was never a fan of history but he made me actually want to go to lecture. He made everything clear cut and entertaining, and you could see his enthusiasm for the class. The tests were very clear cut. I'd take this class again if I could.
Best professor I've had at Tech thus far. Definitely going to take another class of his if possible. Very straight-forward; 3 tests each worth 1/3 of grade (50% lecture material & 50% textbook material). Textbook material is all from a study guide too. Lectures are actually interesting- he's pretty funny and actually cares about his students.
Extremely funny and actually made history enjoyable, which allowed me to learn a lot more. Tests were all multiple choice, with half on textbook terms on assigned reading, half on his lectures. Pretty easy, and definitely fun.
If you actually manage to slip into his class, you wont be dissapointed.
Great Professor, gives great lectures and a lot of extra credit opportunities to help you do well. Only downside is that the class was only three tests, each a third of your grade, so you have to make sure you do well on them. Favorite professor at Tech so far though, you will do well in his class if you show up to lectures.
Easy A for American students who have always been studying this same history. Otherwise, you'll still get an A because it's just memorize the terms.
Dr. Flamming is passionate about history, extremely knowledgeable, entertaining (you'll hear a few great stories), & loves teaching us. He also believes in his students. Three exams are 50% lecture and 50% book (reading isn't that bad, and he gives a list of terms that are fair game). So if you missed APUSH credit, don't fret - this class is great!
Flamming is a great guy and terrific storyteller with history. Stays relatively on topic and you'll learn a lot. Tests are multiple choice, half on textbook half on lecture. Only hw is the textbook readings which are long but you can scan for the list of terms he gives you (and review them before test). Very easy test and then gave extra credit.
If you have to take history, definitely take it with Flamming! His lectures were always great and he told so many funny stories throughout the semester. There are only 3 tests but as long as you do the reading and go to each lecture, you'll be fine.
Really passionate and caring professor. Tests are really easy.
Flamming is a passionate and funny professor. He makes lectures interesting and tells funny stories. If you show up to most lectures and pay some level of attention you will do fine. 3 tests, including 1 non cumulative final. 50 MC questions, half from book half from lecture. Study guide includes all terms from book so no need to read whole chapt
Flamming is the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Enough Said
3 Tests, each 33% of your grade, each test is 50% lecture material and 50% textbook memorization. Textbook notes are easy, lecture notes are from his lectures obviously, and Prof. Flamming is hilarious and engaging so the lectures are worth going to. Amazing teacher for (likely) your last history class.
Prof. Flamming is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is a fantastic storyteller and brings history to life in his lectures. I looked forward to going to his lectures every week. He is also very encouraging and believes in his students. His class is really easy, as your grade is just based on three easy MC tests, but you will learn alot.
Dr. Flamming is one of the teachers who will always have a place in my heart. His story telling and excellent sketches made the class interesting (history was my least favorite so well done), and he always dressed up sharp!
He was an awesome professor. It was very clear what was going to be on tests. He was very open and fair in terms of going through tests and regrading. Just a top of the notch good guy who cared about his topic matter and the students. Super inspirational. Our last day of class he gave like a mini speech encouraging the class...I shed a few tears
He's an awesome guy, super nice and funny. His class should be an easy A if you look over words on the study guide he posts and attend lecture.
Best Prof ever!
Flamming is one of the best professors at Tech. His lectures are amazing, his tests are straightforward, and he is a super caring guy. If you have to take history, I would say stick to Flamming. He's the best in the department!!
He is a very respectful professor and loves his students but there are only 3 exams for the whole course. If you don't go to lectures you wont be successful in the class. He gives a few extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester. He is very test and lecture heavy. But he is very sweet and funny.
This guy is not just a great professor but an awesome person as well. He was always asking us how we were doing or what events were going on that weekend. One day he even gave us a huge speech about how people think our generation is lazy but he believes in every single one of us and stay strong through finals. Easy class, great guy, take him.
Such a wonderful professor and person in general. Lectures were fun and inspirational, and you can tell that he cares deeply about his students. He is hilarious and kind, and very uncharacteristic of a GT professor in the way that he wants you to succeed and not feel stressed out. Go to lecture and read chapters before exams, and you'll get an A
Lectures are organized and worth listening to. Grades are just the average of three multiple choice exam scores, and the exams are pretty detailed so you need to read textbook carefully and pay attention to his lectures. Has about 3% of possible extra credit, which makes it easier to get an A.
Professor Flamming is truly one of the best professors at Tech. I took him for Hist 2112 and it was actually enjoyable to learn about US history. He handled the transition from the physical classroom to online learning (COVID) amazingly and really helped us out. 2 tests and final, all MC. Just show up to class and take notes it will be an easy A.
Dr. Flamming is one of the few professors at GT who actually care about the success of his students while wanting them to learn SOMETHING. It is incredibly easy to do well in his class if you just show up, pay attention, and do the textbook terms he gives you.
He is a great professor! He is the best professor in Georgia Tech.
Dr. Flamming is a true king. His lectures are SO good, and he really cares about his students as human beings. The class is straightforward, and as long as you come to lectures and take good notes there shouldn't be any curveballs. Cried a little bit at his last lecture, not gonna lie. Definitely recommend.
Best professor I've had so far at Tech. Extremely well-spoken, and moves through topics at a perfect pace. Clearly knows what he is teaching, so everything is just taught perfectly. Not a complaint but he talks slow, so 1.75x speed lectures are great if you are taking the class online with recorded lectures. Tests aren't hard, but I learned a lot.
Dr. Flamming is amazing! He really cares about his students and his lectures are super easy to follow. The course is only graded on tests, BUT they are all multiple choice and very easy if you go to lecture and read the book. Great guy and I can not recommend him enough.
Flamming is the bomb! I didn't know I could be so interested in American history, but his lectures are genuinely great, and he speaks about some super interesting stuff in the course. The tests are easy, so as long as you read the textbook terms and watch the lectures you'll be good.
Professor Flamming is great. Keep up with the readings and you will be golden. He is kind and an interesting lecturer. He does speak pretty slowly but if you take him online just bump up the speed. Took this for the ethics credit and would recommend it 100%
Professor is absolutely amazing! He actually sang a song in class once, super fun and caring. The course is literally rote memorization though, so be careful
Professor Flamming is awesome. His lectures are amazing. They may be really long, but I would still recommend. He talks with detail, drawing on anecdotes from his personal life, and it really brings the history to life. He's pretty accessible and loves to discuss history. The class is also pretty easy, and it isn't hard to get an A in the class.
Took this class online due to the pandemic. Tests are ridiculously easy if you watch the lectures and do the study guide from the textbook. He was super caring and sweet and lectures are long but fun to watch!
The best professor I had at Tech! Class was so much fun, even though the online version consists only of voice over powerpoints. Dr. D gets explains clearly and in great detail the thinkers of the time, providing great historical context. Lectures and assignments are easy and thoughtful. Very attentive when meeting 1-1 and always available.
Very fun class with 3 very straightforward exams. I highly recommend taking Dr. Flamming's course.
Dr. Flamming is an awesome professor. He's very passionate about what he teaches and every lecture is like he's telling one big story about history. Your grade is based off of 3 midterms, but they aren't too bad and are very straight forward. I highly recommend him for anyone who needs to take History.
Professor Flamming is one of my favorite professors I've had at Tech. His lectures are interesting, and he really cares for his students.
Great lecturer, easy on his students, very kind, and overall a great guy.
10/10 professor. Will take every class of his that I am able. One of my favorites ever
Dr. D is literally my favorite professor at Tech. He's a passionate historian and a great source of knowledge, but his class is relaxed and enjoyable. He's funny and caring and approachable, and his lectures are on par with the best audiobooks. If you're reading this because you're considering taking his class, please do it!
Dr Flamming is probably one of the easiest professors to take a class with. Take HIST 2112 class with him. since it is hard to not get an A in the class. There are enough resources online like quizlets that you can use to practice the materials. Read through the book, listen to his lectures and collaborate for notes - they are more than enough!
Very friendly guy. Super chill class and can tell he cares. Lectures may be a little boring but an hour+ lecture about history isn't supposed to be a thrill ride. Only negative is your course grade entirely relies on only three exams (includes final). But he does offer extra credit, bumps the test grades a bit, and the tests are very easy. 10/10!
Best professor I've had during my time at Tech so far. Dr. Flamming is an extremely genuine, caring person. Definitely take it if you need the Constitution credit and you can get a seat in his class.
Flamming is an amazing professor! In his lectures, he cracks jokes and helps to keep students engaged in class. Your grade is based only on average of 3 exams (final included, all weigh equal), easy, but you still need to study for them. There are extra credit opportunities that add a couple points on top of average. Definitely would retake!
Dr. Flamming is an incredible lecturer and a gem of a person. His tests are 50-50 between content from lectures and the textbook. If you pay attention to his lectures (and it'll be hard not to), and read the terms from the study guide, it's an easy A.
Would like to take the course again
Solid and caring prof, exams aren't bad at all and lots of resources to help you succeed
I attended maybe 2 lectures because of my own disdain for waking up early and history and I paid for it. BUT the few I attended were great, he's incredibly enthusiastic and makes the lectures fun and entertaining. I suffered for not attending the lectures and probably would've thrived if I did.
Just like any other History course, the tests do not represent the content well (only 3 grades). Most of the questions are about specifics, like dates, things the professor said during class, or something unrelated to the topic. If you're going to take 2112, prepare for a memorization game that is not fun. Flamming is quite the character though :D
Your grade is determined by three midterms, but you're able do well on them if you know the vocab words for each chapter and attend lecture, since 50% of the test questions are from information that he only gives in class. Flamming is a great professor and is passionate about what he teaches. It is very possible to finish this class with an A!
Flamming is an interesting professor & person! He actively attempts to keep students engaged in class through jokes and explanations. Your grade is based on only 3 exams (33.3% of grade & 50 questions each). You will NEED to study for them. As with any non-stem class, your grade completely depends on memorizing the correct topics/facts.
super easy A, nice and understanding, half the tests come from the textbook and you don't know which ones. Super chill and gets excited when people actually come to class. take this if you need SS credit.
This guy is an absolute legend. You will have to read a lot but his tests are absolutely easy. His tests are open book and open note. Search up old test and you will have similar/same questions. Assignments are easy and the rubric is perfectly laid out. I would take his class again for sure.
Took this class for summer 2023. We were graded on 3 exams. Final not culminative. If you keep the textbook open and watch his lectures it'll be very easy. Questions were basically directly from his notes and the textbook. He posts lots of resources for you to look at and is very understanding. Tests are open for a 3-4 day window and last for 80min
Took it online over summer, 2 exams, 1 not cumulative final and 3 assignments. Tests have 25 questions and are heavily based off his lecture slides + textbook pages. It was an online summer class so it was open note. Around 80 minutes for each exam. Prof was very nice and understanding. You definitely will need to read the book and his ppt slides
pretty decent prof, took him over summer and everything was online open note. graded on 3 exams
Flamming is an amazing professor. His lectures may be a little slow paced so I ended up studying mostly off the textbook. 2 midterms (25 questions, 80 minutes) and a final (25 questions, 4 hours (ik even I didnt believe it). Extremely easy with grading assignments. The first two tests can be found online if you look at papers from the past
This class was very interesting and easy. The course is only graded by 3 tests so it is very test heavy. The textbook and lectures were useful and helped me understand the content better.
Class was very easy. Grade was based on a couple tests (which were fairy easy) and he gave extra credit.
Before talking about the class, I just want to note how caring and respectful of a person Professor Flamming is. At the start of every lecture, he would take a moment to ask how we all are doing and at the end, would inquire about any events or activities he should come to support us the coming week. Class is very very easy, he teaches very well.
I took this course online in Summer 2023. The course was unremarkable, but easy. Tests were fair. Flamming gave pretty dry lectures, but some of the content was interesting. Most are taking this as a Social Science requirement. It is not a bad choice, but I would say only take this class if US history interests you. You will be bored otherwise.
Amazing professor, its a shame he's retiring this year but if he's bluffing and decides to teach another year, I'm leaving a review so the future students can take him. Lecture was optional but I went to almost every one of them.
