He's fun. He does lecture and you are expected to read. Utilizes Blackboard efficiently. Extremely helpful. Easy to identify with.

Pretty good class. Exam was kind of hard but the linguistic project is an easy A. Lecture is sometimes boring but he usually lets you out early. I usually don't understand his jokes but he is a cool guy.

Hard tests, but he grades fair!

Overall he is a good professor. He is well organized and tells students exactly what they have to do to do well in the class. Show up, read and you will do well in his class.

I like Hume a lot. The class was pretty cool and not very labor intensive. The project turned out to be less stressful than it seemed like it would be. My advice is don't miss discussion days (the reason I got a B instead of A). But really, he is very nice, funny, laid back, and easy to get along with. Good guy!

Excellent teacher. Do the readings and you will do well in the course. He is very fair, and consistent in his grading and tries to make you think in class.

Hume's class is interesting and well organized. He expects a lot, but grades fairly. I would recommend him for anybody interested in anthropology.

Hume is one of the best teachers that I've had. I've rarely learned as much as I did in his class. I looked forward to going to class. Mostly discussion and NO busy work. I highly recommend that you take him.

Had no interest in Anthropolgy and thanks to Doug and his class it's now my minor. Doug is very easy going, and his this class was structured nicely. Used blackboarded a lot for daily reading assignments and basically set it up that if you didn't want to come to class you didn't have to; no attandance policy. Would dtill reccomend you go.

The subject matter sucks, but somehow he makes classes fun. Lectures can be boring, but show up for the learning activities as they're hilarious. Reading assignments are easy. Tests are nearly impossible without studying, so prepare for the group exam after the individual. Great prof. Highly Recommended!

He is a pretty hard teacher but definitely interesting and you definitely learn a lot.

This professor is available to students and his class is entertaining as well as educational. He provides positive feedback and encouragement consistently. Everyone should take a class with Hume!

He is a funny professor. I am in his honor class, it only have an one page research paper due every week. So it is not that bad as the paper is pretty straight forward.

Dr. Hume clearly cares about teaching and his students. He communicates the material and teaches very effectively. He is demanding, but always fair.

hume's class is interesting and keeps you on your toes. he gives you what's going to be on exams so as long as you read the chapters and answer the questions, you will do very well. always get at least a laugh or three in class and very handsome

He explains the topics very well and his lectures are always interesting. He does have a lot of work on blackboard, though. The activities and discussions were generally pretty easy, but the tests were always difficult. Professor Hume is a hard grader.

Great teacher, great class, makes himself available to students. Some time-consuming busy-work on blackboard but easy enough. Tests are on Blackboard also, so open-note and open-book: no idea how everyone didn't get an A on every test. He knows lecture classes can be boring and does a pretty good job of making it more interesting. Easy GenEd.

Had him twice this past semester. Made my semester hell. He's a good guy and teacher but he gives an unnecessarily huge workload that made me hate subjects that I perviously loved. One word: Excessive.

You have to do interviews which are dumb. Awesome class, definitely recommend to everyone to take.

Awesome prof who can really teach you a lot both on and off the subject of study. He's a very nice and laid back guy who is great if you are interested in learning more in a career in anthropology or a related field. He gives a huge work load but if you learn to work together with other students it's not too bad.

Took his summer online class, it was organized and clear. Not too much work for cramming a whole semester into five weeks.

Overall a very easy online class. I would definitely recommend. You can work ahead on the assignments and the tests are straight from the book and films.

Nice guy. Has high expectations of students. Online tests with multiple attempts, but they call for very specific answers. Our class had issues because the tests did not transfer from the previous semester correctly on BB and he would not correct them before we took them. Hard for a 200-level class, but if you work hard you will get a good grade.

Awesome teacher! The assignments are fairly easy its just a lot of writing. The tests were difficult and had problems, but the grade was always fair. All in all he's a great teacher. I highly recommend.

I had him last semester and am sorry that I am not his student anymore. I have never had a professor I liked so much. He is a terrific listener, and treats all of his students fairly.

I loved this class! The lectures were interesting and the discussions fun, but the tests were harder than they needed to be.

He is a great teacher. Almost every class is a lecture, but some are group activities. Always print out the lecture outline before each lecture. Also, read all the chapters and highlight important things. This will help you a lot for his tests (which are pretty hard). You're allowed to use notes during tests, so take excellent notes!

I was lucky to have Dr. Hume for 2 classes, Latin America and Language and Culture. Both classes were a challenge but if you just go to class and do the work you will do well. The classes were great and he makes good chocolate fudge at final time. Not as hard or as scary as some may describe. I Highly Recommend his classes!

Great professor, always explains topic well and includes group discussions in lectures. Shows videos in class and assigns home-viewing assignments somewhat frequently. Take notes and study for the exams and they won't be bad.

Dr. Hume's class was one of the last experiences I had at Northern Kentucky University as an undergrad. Yes, his class is tough at first, I believe it is designed this way. Stick it out! I learned a great deal about Africa in his class. It seems the class is set up with an old fashion, you are an adult, type atmosphere. This guy is the real deal.

Took this class as an online 5 week session. It is a lot of work! Prepare to read TONS, answer questions and watch movies. He is very precise in what he expects to be completed and how. The tests were difficult if you didn't do the readings and questions beforehand. He does offer everything needed for the class via blackboard which was nice.

Hume made difficult topics in linguistics interesting and fun.

Had this class online, it was awesome! It was organized and Hume reponded to my emails quickly. I am taking any class I can with him.

A lot of reading and writing but Hume gives clear instructions and clear feedback. I wish all classes at NKU were organized like his.

Dr. Hume was my favorite professor this semester! He was always prepared for lecture and made every class very interesting. He's straightforward and passionate about what he teaches. The quizzes/exams are fair and don't have any trick questions.

His careers class was amazing. He answered all of our questions and gave heartfelt advice. This class helped me find my path in archaeology. well worth it.

Took is people of Latin America class and there weren't many lectures but instead many movies. The assignments were easy but the tests were tough. The textbooks isn't interesting but the documentaries made up for it. It is not an easy class but it was interesting.

The assignments were never boring or hard. The tests were tough but were online and we could use our notes and books. Prof Hume's jokes are not always as funny as he thinks, but it makes the material more fun and the activities were always interesting.

I took the online version and it was easy to follow and the activities were fun. Highly recommend it.

I could do the weekly essay, quiz and discussion in one night. Just follow the instructions and you get high scores. The documentaries were amazing they were the best part of the course! I recommend this course to anyone who likes world cultures and needs a ge course.

Dr. Hume's class is very fun and easy if you attend class. his tests were open note with the ability to retake for the average of the scores. His quizzes were able to be taken multiple times with the highest score counting making them a great tool for studying.

His winter session world cultures class was a breeze. Just use the reading and movie questions for the quizzes and write discussion posts. Many posted announcements helped me keep up with the class. It was the first online class that I have taken that I wasn't stressed out becuase it was organized clearly.

I knocked myself out just to get a B+, but it was totally worth it because I learned so much!

A bit of reading and lots of documentaries but the discussions are fun and the quizzes are not hard. Just make enough time to get through the readings and movies and the class is a breeze.

Good professor, but grades final paper like students are professionals and is super particular about format; gives good video feedback for drafts individually; easy weekly reading assignments; easy enough if you can take his feedback and apply it and can write well, would recommend.

Professor Hume is a very engaging professor, and his assignments are always very interesting. He rarely takes off points; it is assentially participation based if you follow the assignment template.

All modules and notes are very organized. He has a very clear schedule and lets students know of any updates. The material is interesting and the activities and discussions help keep the class engaging. He includes videos and activities during lectures to keep things interesting and help relate or better demonstrate the material.

Best professor I have ever had. Lectures are clear, assignments are clear, and he always makes sure that each student is taken care of. Understanding of unexpected events / late work and super encouraging. Very friendly and a great professor all around. Highly recommend taking a course with him!

Classes, well structured, and the grading was fair and quick. There was a fair bit of reading and videos to watch as well as our work assignments, but it is to be expected for seven week course. I really enjoyed the class and I would take more classes with document if I could.

This online class was super organized, and Professor Hume's frequent reminders about upcoming assignments were a lifesaver. The assignments were actually interesting, and the tests weren't too bad either. I'd definitely take another class with this professor.

i took the 7wk accelerated course and its a lot of reading, the chapters from the textbook are super boring. however, the book chapters and the movies are really interesting! the questions for the book and movie are in order as you read. a lot of the time you can find the test answers for textbook online. activities were eh, discussions eh. easy A

Dr. Hume is a great and extremely knowledgable professor however his ANT100 class is waaayyy too much for a 100-level class with loads of lectures (that u have to watch on your own time) and reading/movies which can get boring. He's a great anthro professor and his class is fun and hes hilarious, but i wouldnt recommend it due to too much work

Honestly, Hume's class was one of the best experiences I've had at NKU! The in-class activities were fun and made the material so much easier to understand. Professor Hume has a way to make going to class something to look forward to. If you get a chance to take one of his courses, definitely do it!

Engaging and informative in-class discussions and activities. Expect to read about a chapter a week.
