Had this prof for the pre-account class. Very clear, provides lots of relevant and useful examples. Wished I had this prof when I actually this the class.
Good guy who makes an honest effort. His expectations about the cases can be confusing, but he's always willing to discuss things after class.

Great professor. He explains concepts well so that you can undrstand what is in the chapters. He is very approachable if any questions arise. Hard marker but still genuinely cares how students are doing and wants to do what he can to help.
"Are you ok?" "Are you good?" This professor never deviates from slides, and believes that his constant repitition of those token phrases will eventually convince students that they have learned. They will not. Might as well have bought an audio-textbook instead.
Very good professor. Explains topics in simple language. Doesnt bother with too much quantitative stuff. Smiles and keeps saying 'are we okay' about 80 times in a class (once we counted it).
Prof Kong is really cool. He cares about his class and jokers around a bit....are you ok? Dman it yes! The class moves fast but hey, everyone should have already had an intro accounting class.
He is very good at heart. Genuine in his efforts to impart knowledge.
Extremely helpful professor and really nice guy as well. Will help you understand the concepts and even hold extra sessions to explain assignments. However, the subjective and the assignments are a lot of work!
Really good prof. Explains concepts clearly. Makes accounting interesting.
Great professor, helpful and responsive to answer questions. Use practical examples from real world to illustrate accounting concepts making accounting more interesting. Goes over many textbook exercises to help reinforce concept understanding. Only downside is course is super fast paced, is not the prof's fault, just lots of materials to cover
Best Professor in the York University
Excellent professor. Presented accounting concepts well and took genuine interest in his students. Recommended.
Clear. Engaging. Balanced. Well-paced. Highly Recommended.
Doug is an excellent prof who helps you to succeed. Although he is a part-time lecturer but he does take the time to see students at office hours unlike other part-time profs. Overall: An amazing prof PERIOD!
Kong is one of the best professors teaching accounting. I had Kong for both ACTG 5100 and 5210 and I learned a lot from him. If you go to class, pay attention in his lectures, you don't really need to read the textbook. He is also a fair grader as well and willing to spend time to help students. Highly recommended!!!!!
Simply the Best!!!! I recommend everyone with no accounting background to take his classes! You will learn everything with ease!
The best Prof. I have had so far at Schulich!
In my opinion, he is one of the best professor in Schulich. Very nice and easy going; the most important thing is he is willing to help students. Strong recommendation
A very good lecturer, you learn a lot just by attending class. He may seem dull at first but he is a nice guy. He marks hard on cases and his midterm/exam was harder than most other sections but he bellcurves at the end of the day if necessary so definitely would recommend him.
Excellent Professor. Has experience in the "field" and knows what he is talking about. Personality is professional.
Best Prof ever! Will always be there for you if you want to learn.
Based on the usual fare of accounting professors we get outside of Schulich, this man stands out as quite clear, helpful, and professional. Don't try to substitute his lectures for reading the material ahead of class though.
He is a good professor. Teaches well. It is important to read the book again and again because your grade depend mainly on Multiple choice questions. The course is not easy but he is the best option for u as he explains the chapter and then does questions from the book. Overall a very helpful and cooperative professor. Maybe the best 3595 professor
He's probably the best accounting prof in York. He teaches well, very calm, very nice person. His exam is as hard as any accounting exam. Any how if you could get in his lecture, you're lucky!
He is an amazing prof and really cares for his students. You can tell that he tries his best to help those who are struggling with accounting concepts. He is not easy especially for his 2010 course but i highly recommend him for those who really want to grasp accounting concepts.
Great accounting professor. Really explains well and tries to make a difficult subject like accounting fun and interesting. The only problem I had was that he went through to course really fast, this is a course you have to read your textbook from beginning to end.
Prof Kong is one of the best lecturers in accounting, esp in management accounting. His explanations are very practical and easy to understand. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Probably will be one of the few profs that I will remember from University! Highly recommended!
makes accounting relatable - the midterm isn't hard if you're prepared and not really sure about the final but he bell curves your final grade so you'll be satisfied
He is a very knowledgeable in the subject. He talks really fast, no boring jokes, no boring time in the class. Very straightforward to explain clearly on the subject. He treated us like real university students, he would skip to do 1+1=2 and explain the hard materials instead of doing elementary math in class. Highly recommended, best prof at York.
I like this guy! If you sit back and just enjoy what he is saying, you actually learn a lot. Throw away your pens/notebook, just listen to what this guy has to say. His experience as upper management really puts context to management control systems/accounting concepts. Most of all, he RESPECTS all students equally!!!
I love Dougie!!!! he is probably the best proff i have ever had a York. He is amazing at explaing concepts to ensure you understand and if willing to help you out. I try to pick my sections for class based on if he is the proff.
Great prof!!! He gives lots of useful examples. Pay attention to his examples in class because its very possible that he will test on what he covers. This course is very intense but if you keep up with the material you will do well. I got a B in this course thanks to this prof
Best prof ever! Genuine, very knowledgeable and very helpful. You will learn these hard accounting concepts with ease. He made me love accounting. Highly recommend.
Very lazy and very disorganized - changes assignment rules/questions a week or two before it is due. While presenting, goes all over the place - very hard to follow along.
As a prof, he has great classes. However, he has the vaguest instructions and the most nonsensical marking keys. He gives exams that are almost impossible to finish, and projects that can't be done within given limits! This scheme is designed to screw your grade, no matter how hard you work, and he could definitely care less about how flawed it is.
This prof is a nice guy, but isn't the greatest Prof. His lectures are very boring. He tests you on things you haven't seen in practice problems. He makes exams too long for students to finish. There is a VERY specific marking key for the project but no specific instructions on it. He gives very brief and vague responses in emails to questions.
Overall not very good. Group case requirements were unclear and impossible to do with the pg limit. If you have to take him, make sure to ask detailed questions for the group case as the info given is terrible. Midterms can't be done in the 2hr limit. Lectures are taking up questions in the book which help with midterms. Would not recommend at all.
Terrible professor. Nice guy but extremely vague in his explanations of assignments and work. His lectures are basically doing questions from the textbook while his midterms have questions nothing like the practice. He also says his midterms are "easy", do not fall for that. If you take cost accounting, try to avoid him.
Great professor, teaches accounting concepts with real world experiences. Very smart and very experienced. Have tons of knowledge, a pleasure to be in his class. His exams are usually hard, and you have to be fluent with the knowledge and examples taught on class. Very fast responses on email communications. Highly recommended!
Great professor. I like his teaching style, and he really knows what he's talking about. Midterm and final were quite difficult, but he prepares you for them well. Coming from a student that hates accounting, his course was not bad at all. With a fair amount of work and effort, getting a good grade in his class is not a problem.
Good even though the lectures go so fast
I love this prof. Very knowledgable and clear, very helpful and never lazy. I took adms2500 with him and followed him very closely in the class and reviewed before class. Although I didn't spend too much time after calss since I was working, I got an A thanked to him. I will try to take class with him whenever it is possible. Best of the best!!!
Boring classes. Does very basic problems in class. The exam is brutal in this course. No point going to class. Just stay home and learn on your own through youtube videos.
Took this course twice, and this course is way harder with this prof. try to take it with a different prof.
Professor Kong is probably your best choice for ACTG 2010. He is quite fair(does not mark carry-over mistakes), explains the material well and gives plenty of practice questions(non-mandatory, but good for studying). The midterm was very good, though the exam was a nightmare(for all sections though). Altogether: Great professor, great experience.
Prof. Kong can flat out teach. If learning is your objective, sign up for Prof. Kong's class. If your considering taking any other accounting classes, Professor Kong will provide the base you need to move forward confidently. His exams and assignments can be tough, but he'll reward you if you put the work in.
Good professor. Cares about your learning experience.
Very nice guy. Kind of goes through the material quickly, but will slow down if you ask him to. He answers all questions. Sort of hard to understand because of his accent. Always answers his emails. Read chapters before class so you get the most out of the lectures. Go to every lecture, it helps support what you read from the book
DK was a good prof if there wasn't the know-it-alls who took accounting in high school showing off their skills and knowledge. For the people who never took accounting before, he'll just leave you in the dust. He does bell curve very nicely at the end but that is at the expense of having very hard mid-terms and finals! Also marks hard on cases!
Prof who truly made me love accounting. Great guy who wants his students to succeed. His practics Qs are key -similar Qs will show up on his exams! Marks very fairly and if u know ur stuff, u'll do well in his class. Goes over a lot of questionsapplication in class. Great prof.
"Are you ok?" No Douglas Kong, I am not ok. The course is tough but DK does a great job explaining everything. The mark you receive is proportional to the work you put in.
Arguably the best professor in Schulich. If you're here to learn, he will blow your mind. Explains concepts clearer than Alaskan freshwater and is quite humorous at times. The most satisfying part about his class is that you don't feel like you're being cheated out of your education (I'm looking at you, MGMT1k). 1110, Best prof.
One of my favourite professors during my first year at Schulich. He really knows how to make the material easy to understand and interesting. His midterm is quite easy if you do textbook practice (and especially if you took Grade 11 accounting). Final was very difficult but he bell-curves at the end of the year so you'll be satisfied with your mark
A little dull, but he does what he can with (what I consider) dry material. He's a nice guy and incredibly knowledgable on the subject. The assignments and tests really help with the learning and are challenging but fair. Get ready to put the work in and keep up with the readings.
Hes a nice guy and knows his stuff. I would recommend reviewing your assignments and final grade, as it looks as if he has nothing to do with them. Either he is not careful reading your paper while grading or the TA just skims through it wo even paying attention. Hardly remembers individual effort or contributions done in class, so dont bother.
Douglas is a prof that actually cares for his students! He always answered questions asked in class, and often it led to our class being behind when compared to other sessions. Instead of flying thru the material or telling us to learn ourselves, he would hold extra sections on his own time to help us! He talks a little fast, but wud take again!
He is a great professor. If you manage to listen to him and do the homework you will ace the course.
Loved this prof
Literally tells you what's going to be on the exam, so you're much better prepared. That being said, his exams are very challenging and requires a far higher level of complex thinking if you want to do well. Great prof, all in all. Are you ok? (you'll know what that means, if you enroll in his class) :)
Kong is a really amazing prof who genuinely cares for students. No doubt his exams can be hard but if you go to his lectures and actually try, you can surely get a decent grade. He rewards you with candies all the time and bellcurves at instances as well. Reading chapters before classes is very crucial, GOOD LUCK!
Kong is very well respected among Schulich for teaching accounting courses. HOWEVER, he really struggles to teach actg 3000. All slides are outdated, all excel sheets he posts have errors which you are expected to find (during exam time you're not even going to remember which were correct solutions), and 50% of all lectures are taught by students.
the more text you write the better will be your grade
He was very nice, patient and tried hard to deliver the concepts well. He did all the practices with students in class and they turned out to be similar to exams. He gave pretty lenient marks and had bell curved up hard. However, his questions, especially MC were pretty hard during mid-term and final.
DK is very reputable as a professor. However, he goes way too fast in class to understand what he is saying, especially when he is taking up example problems. His tests really aren't hard, but they are a time crunch - so if you know what you're doing before hand, you'll be fine. He also bell curves up very much!!!
Are you ok? Great prof if you liked structured lectures with LOTS of examples. He gives you extra practice and his exams are tough but the takeaways are incredible. I learned a lot from him and appreciate how in depth he went with the course, he prepared you for everything no matter how difficult.
His lectures take the full 3 hours and be prepared to write a lot. He goes through a lot of examples to help with the midterms. The projects were simple but are very time consuming. start them before hand. nice prof. explains well and clarifies questions and is very helpful. final exam was not cumulative more on cash flow and financial analysis
Prof Douglas has a lot of knowledge about Accounting, his explanations are pretty good and precise. However, there are times when u feel that he goes fast, this is because he takes his time to make you understand the topic, and the foll. week if you don't remember it, he makes sure he does one more recap before he proceeds. U need to do ur stuff.
The best prof I have ever meet! Take his course for no doubt
Prof. Kong is very knowledge in accounting. He explains each topic clearly by going through many problems in each lecture. He really cares about students since he always asks students for feedback. Take accounting course with him will learn a lot!
Douglas is my favorite prof ever in YorkU. He will go through the questions with you in class, and post his notes after classes. The questions and notes are very useful. Trust me, if you take 3585 and 3595 with him, you will learn a lot, and also get a really fair grade.
3585 and 3595 are both tough and have A LOT of content.. douglas is good and explains well, the courses are just superrrrr heavyyy! he curves a lot too and cares about students.. way better than sun kwon
He cares about his students and wants them to succeed, overall this course requires work and is difficult. It's important to understand the concepts. He is definitely the better choice for this course specifically.
He is the best prof in York for ADMS 3585 and 3595. He cares about students. He does more practice questions in class; it helps us to understand the topics better. Don't miss his classes and do enough practice, you will get good grade.
Knows the subject matter very well. Instead of going over slides, he does practice questions in class which makes it so much easier to understand the material. Would recommend
He is the best professor at York University. Just go to class always and practice, practice , practice. I love his way of teaching and he ensures everyone is okay before he moves on.
My favorite accounting professor in York. Pay attention to the lectures and you would be fine in the exams. Very clear expression and responded to my email in the morning at 3 a.m. The speech is a little fast for me.
A very good option for this course. He clearly knows what he's doing and is able to answer any question you throw at him. He tries to do examples in every class to better our understanding. I plan on taking further courses with this professor.
The best Prof that I have ever met! He is able to answer any questions that students throw at him right away- he knows accounting well! You can always get a detailed response when emailing him for questions. He would ask for your feedback in class and you learn a lot! If you attend the class and do the work, you will get a fair grade!
Best Professor I've had at York. The course is hard but he does his very best to help you prepare with a ton of practice questions. He really cares about his students and is always asking for feedback.
Douglas is a good professor, no doubt, he will go through the questions with you in class, most of the questions are not from textbooks, he will curve the mark, the only thing that I am a little bit unsatisfied with his lecture is that he assume us knows a lot of concepts and kind of skip explaining them unintentionally. He is good anyway
He brings different types of examples on how to do a specific question. He is quite clear and specific but he speaks fast so you will have to ask questions in case you are lost.
He keeps asking if everyone's clear with the topic in class. Something I last experienced in middle school. You have to put in the effort and work hard. He gives his 100% in every class.
One of the best professors at York for Accounting. His lectures are non-madatory but it's a big loss if you don't attend. That's where 90% of the course is learned. Also very accessible outside class.
