Mr. Limmer is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He is horrible at explaining and gets upset when "too many people" have questions. Also, if you do ask a question in class, he makes you feel so dumb. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!! Choose anyone but him!
He let us use notecard reviews on our tests, and a full page paper for the final. At least a few of us did bad for each test, so he used different methods to help boost our grade, such as letting us redo our wrong answers. There are many online homeworks and they take forever to complete, I averaged about 1 1/2 hours per homework.
He is always willing to stop and answer questions or stay after and re-explain the lecture. Take home quizzes were easy for the most part, usually 3-4 questions. Tests are WAY easier than the homework. HW was crazy hard and long, but that's the same for every 1315 math because its online thru the textbook. Got to use notecards on tests!
This is only his second semester teaching and it really reflects in his lectures. He makes you feel dumb when you don't understand. He will stay if you need him. Makes things more complicated when teaching, highly do NOT RECOMMEND! Try to take someone else. If you're a genius at math then you'll be fine, if not you're screwed.
don't take him. Period. Homework everyday. Quizzes once a week. He chooses the hardest math problems. Please don't take him.
Limmer is honestly not a very good professor, he's awkward and seems nervous while teaching. He gives fairly easy homework but take home quizzes that are close to impossible. With this being said, his tests are EXTREMELY easy in my opinion
I had him for Linear Algebra. No quizzes. A lot of easy homework. They're like 3 problems per homework, so its cake) Group projects, but they're easy. Tests are easy, just know the concepts. I skipped often and made A's of the tests. He's quirky and answers questions if you have them! Pretty good teacher. I'd take him again.
most of the class was very straightforward and the only problem i really had was that at the beginning of the semester he said there would be 6 group "activities" over the semester but either he forgot or just didnt plan well, and we had a group project every single week for the last 6 weeks of classes and even one due during finals. it was rough.
I'm not the best at math and he really made it accessible. He made sure that we understood where certain formulas came from so that we could use logic if we didn't memorize them. W had about 6 group projects that could be done alone if we chose to. During tests we could use an index card as a cheat sheet. Do the homework, it really helps.
Best math prof. I've had, ignore the negative ratings. If you're a good student he will treat you accordingly. Very receptive to questions and explains material very clearly. Test questions much easier than the HW so do the HW. Attendance not mandatory but he notices who shows and pays attention. Good quirky sense of humor, one of my fav professors
I'm not a math person - but I absolutely hated his class. He moved too fast for most and was almost condescending when asked a question which he thought was trivial or stupid. I went to his office hours on multiple occasions and he was of little help then as well. For those of you who are math wizzes go for it - I wouldn't take as a non-math person
He's a friendly professor at times, and will always answer questions at the beginning of each lecture. You'll only get the most out of his lectures if you write out the notes yourself rather than just download them from TRACS, since you'll get his examples down that way. The textbook is your best friend for homework. Also, he grades pretty hard.
I thought Dr. Limmer was a good professor. The pace of the class was somewhat fast, but if you keep up with the homework it's not impossible. Takes attendance every class so don't skip!
Dr. Limmer is a fine instructor and a fair grader. The subject-matter is very broad and can become unwieldy. In-class examples are abundant although the fast-paced nature of the course leaves more to be desired. This is ameliorated by the fact that Dr. Limmer is very knowledgeable on the subject. Patience and diligent practice are essential.
Is a very liberal sarcastic teacher. Grades tests difficulty. A lots of homework. He is not very good at explaining things in lecture. Gives sarcastic answers to questions. Very difficult class.
He does a lot of examples which is great and notes are online. If you want to get an A than read the book and go to tutoring. The material was hard to grasp throughout the whole course. He's a funny dude but sometimes can be awkward. No extra credit but he drops some stuff towards the end. Work is doable but again the material was hard for me.
At first I thought he was an okay teacher, but towards the end he gets boring and he's really awkward. He is also sarcastic which offended some people. No extra credit opportunities.
The class is really hard to teach but he gives some really good examples of it which helps a lot. Get used to use the textbook because the time in the class is not enough to learn everything.
If youre not good at math or confident in your abilities, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. His tests are 10 questions open-ended. Hes too smart so doesnt realize had has to teach and actually explain hell end up doing problems in his head and expect you to know. Grades are points on a problem and doesnt care about the answer just work you show.
He taught well, he knows his stuff BUT it was just boring. Dry sense of humor and sometimes his tests had things we did not go over. I would not take him again.
He doesn't go over the specific material you need for the test so when the time comes for the test, you don't know what to expect because the examples and homework problems are nothing like the test questions.
Limmer is a good lecturer who can clearly demonstrate concepts and think of examples off the top of his head. He loves math, and is an excellent choice if you're a STEM major, because he will provide you with a solid foundation for further mathematics. He is generous with partial credit. The difficulty of his course is average for calculus 1.
Doesn't care for his students, He will do the bare minimum for anything outside of class, he's literally told a student no once when they asked a question when class ended because it wasnt his 'office hours' He will teach you what he has to teach but he does it at his own fast pace and at times makes up his own problems that don't endup working out
There are much better MATH1315 professors avoid taking him. not horrible but not good by any means
WORST PROFESSOR AT TEXAS STATE do not take him, his homework takes hours and he does not teach everything on homework or tests and told us its our job to learn and he basically sets everyone up to fail!!! he is very uncaring and will not help you succeed
He is the worst prof you will ever have doesnt teach things that will be on the test. Will pick the hardest problems for the test. He doesnt care about his students and will do nothing to help them out. He can also be kinda mean when you ask him a question that he feels everyone should know. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN.
The tests have nothing on them relevant to what he taught during the lectures. You need to go to class to even be able to understand whats going on. Make sure to do the homework and the connect math!!
He taught class similar to how it would be in high school. The only thing is he would not teach you how to do things on the calculators. Just study problems and make sure how to do them you will pass easily.
By far the worst professor Ive exeperienced since coming to Texas State. After 5 semesters I can say confidently that I have never met a professor who holds less regard for his students success. He will be sarcastic and condescending whenever he gets the chance and shows an inability to answer straight forward questions!
The worst professor ever. Does not care about his students & refuses to answer any type of question. His teaching style is writing problems he makes up on the board that don't always work out. Super tough grader. You have to solve the problems on the test exactly how he would or you won't receive full credit. Made my semester so difficult.
Hes quiet and not very good at the lecture portion. He gives a ton of examples so if thats how you learn youll be fine.
This guy isn't a bad teacher just a really tough class. Super smart so sometimes he can go a little quick. 5 HW questions due each class which I didn't mind because it kept me having to think about it. Again it's a very tough class, but not because of him. If you have to take 1329 then taking him will be better than most.
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had. He is super sarcastic and tries to be funny. Makes me dread going to his class. He is really knowledgeable about the subject but fails to realize that we are just learning the subject matter, we are not experts like him. With that being said, he goes through examples fairly quickly.
The absolute worst math teacher Ive ever had. You might as well let the textbook teach you the concept because thats the only reason Im making it through this class. Plus he talks too quietly for the amount of students he has, he needs a microphone.
Limmer is a very dry lecturer using only the barest minimum in his lecture slides. Examples are not put on the notes, so the textbook is the only place to actually study. If you ask him to explain one method to you, he'll instead explain his favorite method even when he asks for a different specific method on his HW or exams. Do not Take.
Discrete Math is a very hard class, but Limmer sure as hell doesn't make it easy. He'll teach you the absolute bare minimum of a lesson with his pathetic PowerPoints. His tests are all open-ended questions and have little to no similarities to his lectures or homework. Don't take his class unless you want to lower your GPA.
Hardest class I have ever taken. When he explains problems he only works it out half way and then just skips to the answer and expects you to just understand how he got it but he never explains it. Tests are multiple choice so there is no partial credit questions.
I wish I got to know Dr. Limmer better because I feel like that would have made his class better. I still like him as a person, but I think he is too smart for what he teaches. Make sure to do all the homework, he drops the lowest ones. Just pay attention in class and review the connect textbook and you should make a low A.
When I first started this class I was struggling a lot, failed my first exam and barely passed the second. The only reason I think that allowed me to get an A in his class was because I went to MATH Cats. He is a very nice man, however he is very quiet and he often had me confused when he was teaching. Does NOT give any extra credit during year.
if you're really good at math, then you'll be fine, but if you suck like me, then you have to go to class and mathcats because he does not explain the problems well.
Dr. Limmer's lectures tend to drone on and differ greatly from the homework. He is an extremely difficult grader and will take off points for any flaw imaginable. I believe that teaching is not his calling. He's not terrible, but if you are not already gifted in math, please find a different teacher, as this class will suck.
Shows specific examples in class rather than how to do any problem. Shows what he does to solve the problem, very messy. Does explain how or why to do something. Uses terms only people that already know what he is talking about will understand. Very boring voice as well.
He is a very hard grader and doesnt explain material well.
Very rude and unhelpful. Makes you feel dumb when asking a question. He either laughs at the question or just straight out refuses to answer it. Assumes you already know the material and speeds through it. He is always frazzled and in such a rush. He is more concerned about knocking out as many sections in one day than if we understand.
Terrible I was a advanced student in math and always have been was so good at math I skipped 2 years of math in High school and took a years worth of AP calculus in 2 weeks. This professor is horrible makes everything more confusing and does not explain anything. AVOID HIM!
Maybe it's just because I'm not great at math, but Limmer is possibly one of the worst math professors I have ever had. He doesn't teach. If you're like me and need a professor that helps you outside of class, find someone else. I poured hours of time into the material and had to teach everything to myself. There's also some rough group projects.
Awful! I can't deal with this professor. He changed the syllabus rules a week before the semester ended!!! This dropped everyone's grades 8-10 points. Please avoid this professor at all cost.
Very awful grade percentages you have a bad test day you're screwed for the semester. Limmer is horrible. I am a math tutor and his way of teaching shocked me. I have certifications as a math tutor and This guy is not a good professor and can not teach.
This guy does not grade anything on time. I typically did not know my test and projects grades for a month. By the time I took his 3rd test I didn't know my grade for the second. At the final the 3rd test and 2nd project were not graded so I really had no idea what I would make. He grades his homework extremely harsh.
The material wasn't explained well, either in class or in the videos; and HWs were often extremely complex questions only covered in the textbook. Everything was harshly graded, and there were no multiple-choice questions until the final. Grades weren't given back until weeks later (for HW and tests). Take a different teacher if at all possible.
I do NOT recommend him to anybody! He teaches through slide shows and messed up somewhere in the math or in the word problem on just about every slide. Does not teach you how to do things. Tells you to take the derivative of an equation and then shows the derivative of that equation. No further explanation. Most tests are not open notes.
Do not take Limmer's class. He teaches by slides so you don't get to see how you get from one step to the next, he messes up on the slides and most of them say "no image" so you can barely go back to reteach yourself. He also doesn't speak up so you can't really hear what he is "teaching" Unless you know what to do beforehand, you'll be lost 100%
If you are registering for classes, do not choose this professor. I went from a straight A+ math average throughout my life to not being able to comprehend anything. He teaches by slides, which he always makes errors on, and if the problem is too hard, he will use a calculator that solves it for him. Harsh grader, can't teach at all, and awful.
WORST professor! I took this class my first semester before looking up professors and he was horrible. It was the fall 2020 semester of COVID so people were quarantining so he allowed online exams for those that needed it but they were not supervised while everyone else had to take it in person. Lots of unfair things and he didn't care at all.
Do NOT, I repeat DO NOT take Limmer as a professor. His test are extremely difficult because his study guides are convoluted and his explain actions of math theory are poorly presented. Dont waste your time and money by enrolling to his class. Wait for another professor is possible.
Professor Limmer is the worst excuse for an educator I have ever experienced in my life. Before this class, I believed that professors were people to look highly upon. But professor Limmer changed my mind. It is clear this joke of a University gives out jobs like Costco gives out free samples. He is absurdly quiet and his class is very boring.
I'm sure he's great as a person, but as a professor absolutely not. I have never struggled with any math course in my life until I took this class. His test reviews are 30+ questions on different topics but his test is never longer than 10 questions which really makes it hard to study if you have 30 possible question types to know just in case.
Professor Limmer is the worst teacher ive ever had. Hes very quiet during his lectures and reads off slides. He doesnt explain his examples on problems step by step so its very hard to understand any of the lessons. Hes also super boring and seems like hes not even interested in his own class. Do NOT get him as a professor.
not the best at explaining everything. definitely knows what he is doing but is not always able to explain things in a different way if needed.
NEVER take Professor Limmer. I don't even know how he is a professor. First of all there are only three tests in the class which will affect your grade majorly. Second, most of the the people I have talked to in the class have failed all of his tests. If he's the only option for this class or any other class just wait to take it with another prof.
If you take this teacher, make sure you review the things from the earlier part of the unit. It feels like you just need to know the recent stuff cause it's whats fresh on your mind, but there's 1 or 2 questions on the test max about that stuff. He isn't a rude guy, but he is a fairly tough grader.
Limmer seems like a super nice guy but as a professor, I strongly do not recommend him. Even if you pass homework, expect a failing grade due to heavy exams and skewed grading policy.
Professor Limmer is a nice guy , but not a good teacher. During class you get these problems where you think you understand how to solve them and then on the exam he puts these hard level questions that were barley reviewed in class. The exams were difficult to get a decent grade. Overall get a different professor it will save you a lot of stress.
He goes in depth of the section. Do not think too hard about the math, it is more simple than some people make it out to be.
I don't think he deserves a 2/5 on here. He was a decent professor. He goes in-depth into the topics, we can access the slides on Canvas, and he also answers all questions in depth. He grades based on both the correct answer and the work you did in case you made a silly mistake, then you still get credit. Study the power points!! Not the homework!!
He's a quiet, friendly guy, but about as engaging as a text to speech bot. His lecture contains zero visuals and concepts are not explained in a very beginner friendly manner. If you're a visual learner, or need things explained very thoroughly, don't take this class. Also, the exam material was always WAY harder than the homework.
I love math and this teacher made me hate it. I would go to his office hours for help and he was so disrespectful and made me feel like an idiot even though he had no idea how to teach it. You're expected to just know.
Hey alright. Not the best, but not the worst by any means. He knows what he's doing and is pretty decent at teaching it.
The other reviews here are inaccurately harsh. He's not the best professor, but he certainly tries. I frequently notice that he's trying his best to make the class engaging. He has absolutely no problem with extending deadlines for students who need it. I haven't had any major issues with him. Doesn't need to be avoided.
Douglas Limmer is a great professor who loves teaching and will try to interact with class. Lecture heavy and test are NOT multiple choice. Will allow a small notecard to use. Great overall but would not recommend taking it was a difficult time understanding. Will work with you though.
He is very knowledgeable about his subject, but man oh man the class is so boring. He does not sound very engaging. However, he is always available to help. There are written projects (one with >150 individual calculations). HW helps a lot. Tests are given back for corrections and you can make up some of your lost points.
lectures very unclear gave so many in class quizzes that were basically attendance because If you missed your grade went down.. doesn't clearly explain the work powerpoint aren't very helpful
He's a decent professor, but really soft spoken which can make it hard to focus sometimes. Other than that, he's pretty good at teaching. Attendance wasn't mandatory but it's good to go when you don't understand the material or need a step by step look at how things are solved. He is also pretty good about answering questions, so just ask.
You will have a quiz everyday you have class. You will never get a zero on the quizzes unless you don't show up. He's boring and responds back to emails kinda rude. The powerpoint used in class will not give you the notes to pass test. You have to go to class to see him work out problems.
Exams were nothing like the homework, when I w
\ Tons of homework, we had like 3 assignments per week. We did projects and the day after it was due he decided to extend the due date after students already turned it in and gave extra credit but forgot. The tests were all free-response, no multiple choice so you have to really know what's going on and how to do the questions.
Nice guy but class is hard to pass. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives a quiz everyday. They're 1-3 questions & easy but small errors can make you fail. He's soft spoken but knows how to teach. Constantly asks if there's questions/comments which is good. Tests are less than 15qs, allows calculator/notecard but it's still difficult.
He's good at what he does teaching wise, and takes asks if the students understand the material before moving on. But, all the tests are open ended which is difficult most times, and he's very soft spoken and takes in class exercises that he counts towards the grade so I would show up even though attendance isn't super mandatory.
This class was so boring. The reviews are just concepts instead of practice questions and there's only 2 exams and a final. He does do a test rework which is helpful though.
Dr. Limmer is an okay professor. He is nice and asks questions making sure the students don't have any questions but there's only 2 tests and the final. It's all multiple choice except in the end there's a couple free-response questions which those are very hard. He does offer test rework which helped me a lot with my grade
Please be careful taking this class. There are only 3 exams and they are worth 75% of your grade. The second exam was extremely hard in comparison and dropped me two letter grades, an A to a C. He doesn't post the averages (probably because they are so low). Homework is frustratingly hard. Compared to other profs this class was significantly harder
He is a very nice professor, and his class is not hard. There will be a quiz every class, which is just 1 question on something easy that you just learned. People who are giving him bad reviews are just people who don't even listen. Very easy to get an A, just do the homework and pay attention.
He's really sweet, the class isn't hard, and attendance is taken online through a quiz, but I would say as long as you don't really struggle in math, the class will be fine.
Mr. Limmer is a pretty good professor, but his class is more difficult than it seems for an introductory math course. Lots of homework, and your grade basically depends on three tests. He seems to care a lot about his students and making sure they understand though. Overall if you listen and do the homework it's not too bad, but make sure to study!
very quiet guy, sit up front or just stay home. he's sorta nice. his teaching is iffy and his grading method absolutely sucks tho. the tests will be like 30 questions long but if you miss 2 or 3 of them you fail the whole thing.
Rather kms than take this prof again
Lectures are boring and tedious, gives a quiz every class, is somewhat rude to students and isn't helpful, wouldn't take this class again
