He is nice and helpful, but he assigns many hw and actually grades them. Tests are doable as long as you do your homework and take his activities seriously. His lectures tend to be dry as well as himself, so consulting with the book seems necessary.
Professor Lloyd is a great guy. His lecture is very clear and quite easy to understand if you really concentrate in class. His tests are TOUGH. Homeworks are long and he requires you to really understand the homework. If your test scores are low, you can bring your grade up with activities, quizzes. So it's important to not miss the class.
This class is not an easy class. Take this class only if you want to be challenged. You have been warned.
Doug is a very passionate, energetic professor who really cares about his students well being. In the Calc I Honors course, there was plenty of challenging HW problems compounded with difficult lecture material. However Doug has good insight into the material and is willing to share. His exams are tough, but he is very clear with what he expects.
This professor is a nice guy, but teaches easy concepts in a really hard way. He expects you to figure everything out on your own and won't help you even if you come find him for help. He also teaches unrelated topics instead of doing more in depth examples of the current topic. I took AP calculus for two years in high school and had trouble here.
This Professor has been the absolute worst math teacher I have ever had. I have always enjoyed math and as a student I would say math is my best subject. He made the material a lot more difficult to understand than it should have been. And he makes you feel stupid when you go to him for help outside of class during his office hours. Do not take.
This class was hard but I liked the lectures. He takes the time to explain things. Homework was long and some problems were hard. I talked to him and he gave me hints. Overall this class was difficult but I learned a lot.
He is my favorite math teacher. He explains the concepts in a way that is understand and does lots of problems in class. In class worksheets are a help. Tests and quizzes are ok. Going to take him for my next class to.
One of the best math teachers out there. Hard class but he makes it much clearer.
Some lectures are brilliant and some are dry dry dry. Lots of assignments. Homework is long. Have to go to class to take quizzes and activities. All of the assignments are a lot of work. Might have been easier to take someone else.
This class is A LOT A LOT WORK. Unless you're really good at math and can keep up, this is not the class for you! He is great and nice teacher and is willing to help. The book is awesome! I am gong to major in math so am glad I took honors.
This was a great class. Extremely clear in all instruction. He is willing to answer all your questions. Tests are hard. Make sure you know ALL the concepts!
If you haven't taken a college level calculus course, I would highly recommend NOT taking this class. I love math, but this course was the hardest course I have ever taken. He is an amazing teacher, patient and caring, but utterly ruthless in test difficulty and grading. Be prepared to study at least 20-30 hours a week to get decent test grades.
Definitely worth taking this class. His lectures are amazing and he is kind of geeky when it comes to subjects he's passionate. Just participate in class, come to office hours, and really try to understand the proofs instead of just memorizing it. Trust it help save a lot of time.
Prof Lloyd teaches easy concepts in a really hard way. His lecture was confusing and complicated. The textbook he was using was an old version, it only provides odd answers, without showing the steps. You won't find the answers on Slader . Thus the book limits your ability to practice.
A great teacher. He is sort if funny and smiles alot. Hes kinda dorky.
Calc 3 was a tough class but Doug made it fun. A lot of homework though. Seriously!
Definitely the best math professor I have had. He takes the time to explain math problems and is willing to work with you to help you understand. I highly recommend taking his class!
One of the best math professors I've ever had. Very kind and optimistic. Although he assigns a lot of homework, he really wants you to pass and takes the time to help you understand. He also provides extra credit! It does take some effort, so do all your homework, study, and you'll do just fine. Highly recommend his class!!!
Professor Lloyd's class was very helpful. I had a hard time with chapter 4. I googled all the optimization problems. Got a B. Great Class!
Take him if you want to suffer .
He explains the concept really well. There were some hard proofs in the textbook, but he managed to explain it intuitively in a much simpler way. Highly recommended if you are good at math, and want to see the rigor treatment of calculus. This is a proof-based class, not an easy one, but prepares you really well when transfering to UC STEM major.
I'm currently an applied math major at UC Berkeley. I took his calculus honor in fall 2015, and i have to say it was worth every bit of it. I think Douglas Lloyd or Art Moore Honor class with concentration on proof is the way to go if you plan to transfer to top school for rigorous Math program, or you want to take hard math classes in the future.
Calculus 2 was a hard class. The teacher made it fun and clearer to understand. Would definitely recommend. Have had other teachers. He is my favorite.
Really tough class. Prof is okay at best. Gives an adequate explanation. Tough grader and no extra credit. Mountains of homework.
He does assign lots of hw and proofs. But he is one of my favorite teachers because he explains things so well. To be successful in his class, just do the hw and learn the proofs. I memorize the proofs first then work and understand them later in the semester. Some understands the proofs right off the bat. Depends. Just dont hestitate to ask him!
One of my favorite professors at OCC. He makes math easy to understand even though it is calculus. He is also sort of entertaining to watch. He gets excited about the maths. Tests were tough sometimes. He also gives some hints in class.
He goes through the chapters out of order, which personally made things more difficult for me to understand. Lenient grader, so you will get partial credit. Really nice guy who will help you in office hours. Like the person, but his teaching style didn't fit me as well as others have.
His tests are hard but he gives partial credit and there is always an extra credit question. I feel like he explains things very well in class and is always upbeat. Overall he's a very nice, approachable guy and happy to give you all the help you need. Taking him for Calc 3 for sure.
Take him let's say that he is the most wonderful math teacher and a Person Super caring for what you don't understand, he answers with a beautiful smile. I just had to drop because I couldn't manage my time it was the summer session. This originally not an easy class but with this teacher it is worth. I just Love him
I'd say he's one of the best math professors at OCC. Yeah he's not perfect, but still much better than most. Class: four tests (worst is averaged with final), one final, one group project, no EC, LOTS of homework, easy in-class activities. HW is demanding and class is VERY, VERY difficult, but his grading is pretty helpful and ask how he grades.
Good guy but his teaching style was not for me. I've only gotten As in math until he gave me a B. He's a very tough grader and barely curves at all. Extra credit on every test but it's usually really hard questions so don't get your hopes up. SO MUCH HOMEWORK. Calc 3 is a very hard subject and he doesn't make it any easier. He's a funny guy though
Lloyd is the man. I suggest only taking this professor if you are serious about math.
Doug is one of the best Math professors at OCC beside Art. He also teaches Honors sequence and definitely recommend to take with him. His pace is slow enough for every one to catch up and not intimidating to ask questions. Guy is funny and sometimes, weirdly funny . Lol
He was great at teaching and going over in class, but he gave a LOT of homework that was due in the middle of the week (Wednesday nights). He also had EXTREMELY hard exams that were NOT multiple choice. I had to drop because I was failing (and I am an honors student so...). I do NOT recommend unless you're extremely good at math.
This professor is so good. I online videos are helpful and he answers all your questions in class. We did group work sometimes that was also good. Take him you won't regret it.
This summer class was awesome! It is easy to watch the videos even though they are long. Went to the beach every morning and still had time to watch the lectures at night. Some class work so don't skip. Tests are not easy but manageable.
very labor-intensive class, a lot of lecture videos, a lot of webassign hw, hard tests, on top of nitpicking territory grading. Allegedly he was more lenient last semester but found cases of cheating and made the class harder.
lectures and hw are super duper long but helpful. tests are heavy and mostly not based on hw
Professor Lloyd's class was challenging but I got an A. It was a lot of work studying and doing homework. The tests were OK. They were like homework but not exactly the same problems. The videos were very helpful. I could watch them at night after work.
Exams are extremely difficult in comparison to the tons of homework assigned via WebAssign, which already gets tedious enough itself due to the randomness of the problem generation. Quizzes and exams are graded very slowly and VERY strictly, and inconsistent grading criteria will leave you confused. No curves.
The professor is passionate about his subject; however, if you value your sanity and grades do not take the class. His exams are one page long consisting of 9 questions, so getting one question wrong costs a grade letter. His grading is super harsh, almost unfair, and he doesn't post the correct solution.
Do not take Lloyd for online classes. He is great in person but terrible online. The online exams are significantly harder than the homework & there's not enough time to complete the problems. His "lecture" videos are both long and useless. During class there are group activities on random days, which are for a grade, so you have to show up.
This was by far my favorite math class I have taken. It was hard, but prof Lloyd made it doable. The proofs were my favorite part. I don't like the online homework, but managed to get through it. Took a lot of time. The videos were great!
He is the most amazing teacher I have ever learned. His lectures are clear and easy to understand.
Professor Lloyd is the perfect professor if you really value challenging your mathematical ability, but I just cannot recommend his class if you are a major or discipline that is not purely math oriented. The honors portion is rarely covered in lecture videos and the tests are extremely brutal. There is very little room for error.
This class was very challenging but Professor Lloyd is a great, fair professor. Although the tests are hard, they follow the pattern of homework problems so you won't be caught off guard. Would definitely take the class again.
Prof. Lloyd is such an amazing teacher and his teaching style makes calc easier to understand! He is super down to earth. If you have any questions, he addresses them and makes sure you feel comfortable after you walk away. I absolutely love his class and he makes a honors class pretty enjoyable!
He is good at lecturing, but I feel like his lectures are the basics, the homework is intermediate level and the test is hard. You have to really understand concepts to get a good grade. There are three tests and a final. He has activities and quizzes sprinkled throughout. If you put in the effort to go to office hours he will help you though.
Best math teacher/professor I've had. Professor Lloyd is kind and approachable. He goes over concepts slowly and pauses frequently to give students time to think and ask questions. Keep up with homework and going over each chapter, and go to office hours or tutoring for extra help. Tests are challenging but not impossible. Highly recommend taking!!
Made me love math again. Homework is light and lectures are fun to follow. He is so jolly teaching the subject, his enthusiasm is contagious. He would sometimes go on tangents about the history of a certain mathematical principle which I found interesting. I love this guy so much!!!
I finished this hybrid stats course feeling very disappointed. I participated, & asked for help, but I was met with annoyed responses from him. Tests weigh on your grade w/ no curve. The HW doesn't help you prepare for the test. I would not recommend taking this course especially if you are a student who might need extra help, you will not get it.
His class has been the hardest one I've taken at OCC. He goes through the course material pretty fast and you do almost all the learning by yourself through the homework since he only has time to do the basics. This class is test heavy and you must spend time studying. I am glad I took the class but I would not again if I had other options.
if you miss more than 2 days of class he can drop you. Excessive homework. Class Activities that are graded for accuracy. 4 exams and a cumulative final exam making 5 total.
This was one of the better math classes I have taken. Hard work but he is helpful if you ask questions. Office yours are very helpful.
I have struggled with math in the past but Prof. Lloyd's class helped me pass calc 2 with a B. 4 tests and a final. Homework and the practice test made me prepared for tests. He is patient to answer all of your questions in class. Quizzes are a pain. Like I said I struggled with calc 1 and had a bad expereince. I whish I had him for calc 1.
Grade is test heavy, 4 exams, 1 final. Make sure to ask questions, he's more than happy to answer. Exams are a reflection of lecture and homework (webassign). You just gotta lock in for the semester and put in the work. He's a great professor, make sure to engage in class for it to be fruitful. What a jolly fella.
THIS MAN IS A WIZARD. seriously! lectures are boring as hell and i didn't enjoy his class at all, but man. he's a wizard. i'm serious.
Excessive amounts of homework and tests are very difficult. Might have to spend more time than usual to teach yourself calc2 to succeed in this class.
Lloyd is without a doubt the best math teacher I have ever had! Makes hard stuff really easy to understand - he's the Machiavelli of Calculus! Very fair - just attend class, take notes, ask a few questions. He really comes across as wanting everyone to do well. If Calculus was a baseball game, Lloyd would be a HOME RUN!!!
I struggled with maths all my life. He takes the time and cares to help you understand it. I had to relearn lots from my algebra and trig (and cal 1 sadly). It was a hard class but Llyod made it doable.
He is a very kind teacher. I ask him questions all the time and he answers them in a helpful way.
Nice guy and gives good lectures, but he is a very harsh grader and the tests are insanely difficult.
I loved his lecture style and math stories. He is very helpful during office hours. I have always liked math and this is one of my favorite math classes.
He is nice and helpful. Not too much hw. Tests are doable as long as you do the hw and take his activities seriously. His lectures are stimulating and practice the problems he does in class and the homework to help you on the test.
Very test heavy course. Tests are difficult, but its Calc 3, tests aren't going to be easy. Quality lectures and is willing to help at anytime. Taught pretty fast, but he is always happy to clear things up. Not a fan of the structure, with random quizzes, lots of hw, and activities being a total of 5 points in the end. Amazing guy nonetheless.
This teacher's lectures were rather good. Homework due each week. Tests every 4 weeks. A few quizzes. It was pretty straight forward and I got an A by studying homework and lectures. Don't take if you suffer from arithmophobia or pogonophobia. DRIP!
if you can avoid him avoid! Doesnt care about student success, super test heavy and tests are crazy hard. Seriously the worst.
chill dude what can I say.
The best lectures I have every witnessed. He really loves explaining math and he will answer your every question. My favorite teacher so far.
The difficulty rating is mostly by nature of the class itself. I don't actually find him a very difficult professor at all. He's a really great lecturer, and is able to explain something three different ways to help people get it. Tests are extremely similar to the homework and the problems done during lecture. Clearly passionate about the subject.
avoid if you can, super test heavy and does not care for the success of his stundents.
He was a very good professor. The class itself was very hard b/c of the content, but he always was able to explain things well and if we had questions, he would answer them kindly. The hw wasn't too bad for a math class, but it was still quite a bit. The tests were most of the grade, but he wasn't overly strict with the grading. Lot of memorizing.
He is my favorite math teacher! Lectures are so clear and easy to understand. homework is a chore, bout tests are positively doable based on homework. Take Lloyd cha cha cha.
Calc 2 is challenging as I had expected going into this class. But doing the homework and attending lecture will not be enough. You need to dedicate long hours learning/understanding the material and the MANY ways to solve a specific kind of problem, which is hard. SOME questions from hw appear on the test, but changed weirdly. I do not recommend.
he himself is an amazing guy who clearly wants to see his students succeed and puts hours into helping them. however, his class is HARD. he does not shave it down to make it any easier. one hw assignment is 2-4hrs and u have ~3 a week. i recommend him if you actually want to learn calculus, but if you just want to pass w/ a good grade go to GWC.
This class is too hard for a class at a community college. You will have to teach yourself outside of class because this professor's lectures are way too slow and monotonous. Of the around 60 students that were present in class on the first day, only around 25-30 students were present on the final day to take the final. Do not take this professor!
Calc 2 is not hard, but his tests are extremely difficult for no reason. His test preparation is useless and you have to memorize how to solve a specific problem to do well. You will see problems similar to homework on the tests but the questions are changed weirdly, so they become really complicated. I regret not withdrawing this class sooner.
I can't say enough about this professor. Llyod has made me love math again! He is passionate about the material and you can tell he really likes doing the math. Homework was a beast, but I got help at the office hours. The math center was somewhat helpful but they got stuck sometimes.
One of the best at OCC. He'll answer your questions and make sure you understand the material. Not much homework. Tests are based off of homework. No tricks. No surprises.
You have to buy ebook for homework, exam pratice, and materials. His lectures are good. If you want a good grade, you should pay close attention to the lectures and try to understand the concept.
Mr. Lloyd is a passionate and inspiring math teacher who brings energy and enthusiasm to every lesson. He challenges us to think critically while always offering support and encouragement. His love for math shines through and motivates us to do our best. An incredible educator!
Take a different instructor at ALL costs. He is unreasonably difficult and I failed TWICE the first time he gave me hope and told me I would be ok and I'd pass… nope. Then I had no other choice and thought I could waste another 5 months of my life to retake the course with him and it was an even bigger mistake. Not helpful and incredibly useless
I took this online class in fall and it was interesting. Online homework and quizzes. Online class meeting but not for tests. Tests were at OCC and not hard. Heavy calculator use.
Okay, listen up. If you think math is just a bunch of numbers drowning you in confusion, let me tell you this class is a total game changer. Lloyd is super chill and honestly has a knack for breaking down the most complicated ideas. He actually cares about making sure you get it. He'll explain from different angles too. Don't sleep on this one!
The guy is not good. Does not go over problems in class says no time. Lectures are way too fast then confusing. Exams are harder than HW with limited time to do 11 Questions in 90 minutes. Only self teaching and good math knowledge would do well. Then why need him.
I really enjoyed his teaching style. Very engaging and entertaining lectures. You can tell he loves teaching math. Tests are hard tho and do ALL the homewrok since they will get you ready for them. My bro from another class and I studied together and I was able to help him thanks to Lloyd's class. One of my favorite teachers so far.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR NOW. Douglas Lloyd is an incredibly smart man. His homework and quizzes are extremely straight forward. He provides a study guide for all tests and the final. The study guide is extremely helpful and as long as you understand that guide, you will do great on his exams. He is a very effective math teacher; cares about students!
I took calculus 3 with professor Lloyd in spring 2025. The lectures were great, clear, and easy to follow. His exams were fair. Homework was online. 40 question optional exam preps that covered any possible question you might be tested on. He wants to see your work and grades you based on your overall logic. I wish he taught Math A285.
I am usually a straight A student in all my math classes but this professor cannot teach. Glosses over most concepts so I had to teach myself most of the material and his test are unreasonably hard. Some students here with 5 point ratings are just teachers pets fr
Chill dude. I walked out of class feeling both smarter and dumber each day. I learned so much in his class! Amazing lectures. Test are straight from the homework and he does some in class. I did study a lot to get an A, but a C is easy.
10/10 frt lectures slap ate final U lag if you skip
He teaches in a way to make sure you get the ideas and not just memorizing. Test were fine but after I saw the answers I thought it very possible. I love his class.
