Just don't.
When you treat your students like garbage don't expect them to respect you. Professor Manson will begin to speak over his students routinely and he will not hesitate to be condescending. If you could get a word out in this class then you are lucky. He makes up assignments on the fly and there is little to be learned. A truly disgraceful effort.
Disrespectful towards students when asking extremly difficult and irrelevant questions. Grades papers with extreme harshness and fails to give a proper outline of what is required. If your taking him because of the writing requirement take another class cause you will honestly hate his class and him.
If there was anything that I learned from his class, it was to make certain that I looked up which professors to take. The reading that had to be done was excessive to say the least, reading 6 books is too much. The questions were exceedingly difficult, and he is crazy disrespectful. This was my hardest class and I'm a STEM major. Be wary.
Prof. Manson is disorganized and his class is chaotic. There are papers due all the time and he doesnt follow his own syllabus. Hes unable to explain main concepts or make things clear. There is a final paper and final that consist in an essay. He uses 4 books and for the final you should bring 3. The main book about keywords is confusing.
Absolutely awful. I dont complain about professors ever but he is horrible. Very unclear grading policy which he isnt willing to clarify. Added a final, which wasnt on the syllabus, and told students he wouldnt say a word about it until the class before. Also be ready to purchase about 4 books and have to bring them to every class. Avoid him !
Professor Manson was interesting to work with. We had four books used throughout the semester and I have to say we had a lot of holiday offs and it threw everyone off for the semester as he would change dead lines for assignments and certain readings. He goes off topic way too much. Class got really confusing but I did my best to do well.
Do not take!!!!! He does not give clear directions for assignments and then throughout class he will continue to change the assignment and then it will change again the next class. He is rude, does not answer questions directly and assignments include reading entire books. Avoid him!!
on the last day in the civil war unit he started imitating Black people and saying things like "hello master"? and on the midterm the essay question was asking us to imagine being a colonist or a slave. why would you ask your Black students to imagine being a slave? very weird man, always off topic and made me feel stupid for asking questions.
I had him for HIST 104 but it wasn't listed on here, he would just talk the whole time and was very confusing. There's homework for every class. You'll need to read either half or a whole chapter and answer a few questions. There's two tests and two essays and also pop quizzes based on the chapter readings. I didn't enjoy and do not reccomened.
Not lotta hw. thez 2 tests n 2 essays. Textbooks free. Listen 2 assigned chapters 2 prep 4 possible pop quiz. Try to answer guiding questions, they're useful for participation, tests, pop quizzes, and essays. Try to spend a solid week researching sum 4 a paper, then right an outline in a day, then draft for 1-2 days, then keep revising
He is a really nice guy! A little disorganized, but overall a good teacher and knows his stuff about history. He is very passionate about his chosen subject. Gives really useful feedback and replies quickly to emails. Not too great on time management though.
difficult
Does not let the student use the bathroom during the lecture Very disorganized Does not show compassion in any capacity 1/3 lectures are interesting
worst ever
Dread thinking about going to his class. His personality is not it.
I enjoy every other teacher I have but I dread even thinking about going to his class. He has a mean sense of humor/ sarcasm and overall acts like he knows it all and not in a good way.
Double-major here. He thinks we're high schoolers or something. If you have 4 absences (regardless of what emergency) you WILL fail the class. 2 lates equals 1 absence. He proudly takes attendance and tries to fail students as much as he can. For every lecture you need to read WAY too much. Random uncorrelated quizzes, you get 5 min to write. GL.
His lectures are very confusing and he adds a lot of filler words. When you are asking a question, he cuts you off and answers the question that he assumes is the question you want to ask. He goes off-topic a lot and is always behind on the topics that he puts on the syllabus because of the little rants he gives.
His lectures are very behind and off-topic, I had to use my former APUSH teacher's videos to study for the midterm and final, and received a pretty good grade on it. I watched the videos in his class and took notes from them while he was talking. The subject that he teaches is fairly easy to research instead of listening to him talk.
This professor could be a little sarcastic, consistent pop quizzes, my advice: stay out the way, do good on tests and try not to miss class.
He does not use the text book. He uses material that is not available to you. He makes random comments that seem irrelevant but you will be tested on it. He has no outline, he just rambles and expects you to know what the rambling is about. he rambles too much you owe the sudents an outline for your ramble. 20 years of rambling. hist dep dn help.
condescending. 95% of class is him rambling. calls u out for going to bathroom. calls on u if he thinks ur not paying attention. gives vague essay instructions but critiques in detail when grading. made someone read a passage w a racial slur then argued when someone said it made them uncomfortable. was an extreme misfortune being in his class.
If you love yourself dont take this class. Rambles on the whole class and then tests on some small miniscule detail of the ramble. Makes unclear essay instructions then grades critically. Will publicly call you out if you go to the bathroom and he even locks the door. I only passed bc I took APUSH in HS. Stay AWAY!
His lectures consist of him rambling on for hours. Don't even bother asking him questions he'll just respond with "you got me off my notes here". The homework assignments are unclear, oh and he expects students to finish an exam with short answers and an essay within an hour.
Tends to go off topic of the lecture and rants about something else related to history or out of history. Office hours sometimes works but hes tired and has some time processing and helping you out. Theres a lot to say about this professor but try not to take his class, if you cant and have to, good luck
The lectures and assigned readings were out of sync and the pop quiz could be about that day's lecture or reading. No grading criteria for papers, graded based on the vibes. Very unclear on what he wanted in his papers. Seems to think or expect everyone taking his class to be a history major. Really ruined history for me. Don't take him!
HE goes off-topic and you can barely understand on what topic is he on. He is very disorganized and gives exams without telling us what is on it. You really need to self-teach to get a good grade in that class.
Professor Manson is a terrible teacher. I didn't understand him at all. He gives random quizzes, doesn't reply to emails and responds to them in front of the class to embarrass you. The lectures were heavy, and he is so sarcastic and makes racist comments. Finally, that class was a pain because he thinks students are teachers and we are perfect.
These reviews are not lying. DO NOT TAKE. HE GAVE ME AN F. I did all the work, showed up to class, listened to his ridiculous lectures which is a whole lot of just rambling. A history class should not be this difficult to pass. Even if you try hard and participate, he wants to fail students.
This is for HIS190 the writing intensive course. He goes on talk a lot. When I say a lot I mean A LOT, which is a whole load of nothing.Aside from the assignments from the textbook, he gives out random assignments on the spot but never send out reminder regarding those assignments which were not apart of the syllabus.Avoid his classes if you can!
If your not really into history, DONT take this class.
As of the day I'm writing this, I am still taking the class. I think he is okay, the reviews you see here are true. You got to really like American History to like this class. I'm sure he is a nice person outside of college (he is nice in general) but he just isn't the professor for me.
I absolutely dislike him. Unfortunately I had to take his class, which I will probably fail. He has no clue what he is doing. All he does is yap. He gave us a midterm and did not tell us what was going to be on it. When no one answers him he gives us a written pop-quiz assignment. So unbelievably disorganized. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!
I took his class knowing his rating on here. To warn you, yes he talks a lot. Does he know what he's talking about? Yes! Attendance matters and so does the quality of work you give in. Will give u an F or just exclude u if you're not in class or do workshops. Just put in the work and you'll be fine. Got an A+ simply by doing the work.
It wasn't that bad you just have to give some effort. Tests were curved and attendance does matter. You would have to pay attention and give effort in order to get an A. Just pay attention and read what he assigned or have a grasp knowledge of the readings.
Took Hist 190 and would rate him 0 stars if I could. Rambles the entire class, without any direction or purpose. Unclear on his expectations for papers but grades incredibly harshly without feedback. Insane amounts of homework with very little expectations detailed. I would pay my whole bank account to stay away from this professor.
Called someone a slur and is the worst prof ive ever witnessed in my 21 years of living.
Just dont.
Please stay away
im depressed. dont do it.
STAY AWAY.
Try to avoid him if possible.
I thought this class would be easiuer bc its online. ... worst mistake of my life.
my king lebron could teach better than him.
horrible. extremely unorganized and pulls grades depending on his mood.
provides zero guidelines and expectations for assignments
worst prof ive ever had. save yourself.
take anyone else itll be better.
if you care about your gpa dont take him.
nah. dont.
your gpa will drop.
dont take him.
worst prof ive had
please dont.
im warning you brotha
dont say i didnt warn youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
gave me an f cuz I'm black. is that even allowed??
ive learned more in 2 days of teaching myself the coursework than he was able to teach me the entire semester.
this class single-handedly dropped my gpa to the ground.
This was hands down the worst professor I've ever had. They are completely disengaged, give unclear instructions, and are extremely condescending when asked for help. Feedback is vague or downright useless, and it's clear they don't care whether students succeed. The class feels more like a power trip than a learning environment.
Genuinely the worst class experience I've had. Unclear grading, no real teaching—just vibes and power trips.
Avoid. They make writing feel like punishment. Zero clarity, zero support.
Makes an already tough class unbearable. Doesn't care if you understand anything.
Condescending, dismissive, and gives feedback that's either unhelpful or passive-aggressive.
Grading makes no sense. Expectations are impossible to meet without mind reading.
Worst professor I've had. Somehow made me hate both writing and history.
Rude, inconsistent, and loves to make students feel small. Stay away.
I regret not dropping this class. It was draining and miserable.
if you want to be confused and belittled all semester, take this class.
Every assignment felt like a trap. Nothing was ever explained well.
No matter how much effort you put in, it's never good enough for them.
Mean for no reason. The class felt more like a punishment than a learning experience.
You'll come in liking history and leave with a grudge against the whole field.
His feedback is a mix of confusion and ego. Not worth your energy.
Easily the most toxic teaching style I've encountered.
Doesn't teach, doesn't clarify, just judges.
Save your GPA and sanity. This class will test both.
good professor, enjoyed his class, clear in what he's looking for, lectures can be boring, but only teaches what you need to know.good guy, easy essays and quizzes.only thing I didn't like about him as how he gets angry when students show up late or leave, this is college dude, would you rather them not show up? bad reviews are from bad students
Im just gonna spam positive ones because that person spammed negative ones, Great professor, obviously that student didn't do the work or pay attention.
Im just gonna spam positive ones because that person spammed negative ones, Great professor, obviously that student didn't do the work or pay attention.
He failed anyone who missed more then 3 classes, which I honestly didn't disagree with, but he did assign 2 papers being 5 snd 12 pages long and homework almost everyday, he was supposed to be one of the easier classes I was taking but ended up being the hardest because he also ranted about random topics. Doable as a class but not worth the effort.
Tbh the lectures feel so long it's so boring, he assigns soooo many readings and is so harsh on grading he gives a 95 and won't give you 100 which is so weird. It's a gen ed that grades harsh. Don't take this class lol. Attendance is also so strict.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
I haven't finished the class yet but it's very clear the type of professor Manson is. He's very passionate about the things he teaches and so passionate that he tends to go off in tangents into subjects that are, well, tangentially related. Despite that he's a fair professor who has a lot to say on the field.
This guy just keeps talking and talking during the lectures. Most of his instructions are unclear leading to assignments being difficult to do. DO NOT take this guy.
Can be hard to follow. Gave a lot of reading material but almost never followed up with them in the lectures. Also went off topic a lot. There were times when he would start the class early, and some of that information would be important to future tests. Much of the test material was NOT what he taught, or topics he went over scarcely.
the class was boring most of the time. he would go over the readings or the events that happened in the time frame of the reading but what he'd talk about in class really didnt matter. as long as you knew the history you'd pass the assignments and test
Going into my first semester at queens college I was lacking and lost, I would be behind on reading , failed quizzes I was at loss but I had the courage to talk to prof. Manson and at first I thought he was going to give no mercy but he's an ended up being a really nice person, let me remake my work just for me to pass his class. He understanding
If you put in a lot of effort, it's not impossible to succeed, but I was doing 6-8 hrs of reading and took detailed notes in order to pass the class. His test questions can be worded confusingly & he doesn't give much time. I feel like I did well b/c I basically taught myself the textbook. You have to participate!
