WORST TEACHER EVER! He doesn't know what is he teaching and always don't have answers to students' questions. He even calculates the wrong answer for his own example. At the end of semester, only 7 pple survive and barely pass. Terrible teacher.

I am only in my 2nd week and already I have been YELLED at for asking this man to write an example on the board. He only does problems orally or make students go up the board and do them...making you look stupid!!! DONT TAKE HIM!!!!

Fast-paced class, but professor will stop and answer questions at any time. Great extra credit for spending time in the math lab. Very dry sense of humor! Do the homework on time, and per instructions, and it's a good class. I learned a lot!
Martin was the hardest teacher ever. He is not clear, assumes you already know the math, and loves to see students fail! I had to drop him and go to 71A. I got an A in that class, and was getting an F in his. DONT TAKE HIM..CONSIDER YOURSELVES WARNED!!!!!
he does not posses any teaching skills. during his office hours he will do his best to kick u out so he won't have to explain u crap about hw, quizes or tests...his quizes are unrealistic for the amount of info obtained in class.he should stay at home!
This teacher has a big ego. He thinks he is the greatest. If you are not great at math DO NOT take this class. He puts his students down so if you can't take the preassure, he is probably not for you. He does not like making things clear either.
I found him to be the best math teacher I've taken at Mt.Sac, he got me thru 51 and 71. I failed 51 with 2 previous teachers btw. I really liked how he took his time to explain steps. I recommend him.
If you remember what high school teachers were like, that's what this teacher teaches like. There was a class like everyday of the week and structured like it's a high school class. He marks you tardy if you leave for the rest room.
he is bad like hell, he wants to fail all his student, his quiz normally have over 70 qoints, and never had a break in his class, tests and quizes are extremly hard, and he is a very rude stupid old man.
is a good teacher , but dont take him on summer, because is kind of hard to keep up with his pace...
his teaching is so so and he is not too nice to all students. if you want to get higher points, you'd better study by yourself. That's a samrt way to take his class.
Hes not a nice guy...if u try hard enough youll do good in his class...he teaches the class thinking you know what hes talking about so he goes fast...if you fall behind you probably wont catch up in the summer...dont take him as a summer course

This guy sucks; he don't know how to teach. My advice is DO NOT take him.
I really struggle with math and he taught me what I need to know. The class is very structured and that was good for me. If that's what you need, then take him. Otherwise, you aren't going to have a good time in the class. He's strict but a good teacher.
He brings some respectable skills to the table, but don't count on an A regardless of your skill level. I think he should have other instructors write his tests and quizzes for awhile until he regains perspective and returns to reality.
He's strict, but that could train u work harder (at least it does for me).Quizzes and tests are fair.Do all the assignments and have a little review before the quiz/test, u will get a pass.
Normally his quizzes are 50 pts+. For one test, approximately 2 people actually completed it before he collected them. He treats new material as "review." He also tells people to ask questions, and treats them as if they are completely stupid when they actually do ask. Do not take this teacher!
Doug has a chip on his shoulder every day. Do not raise your hand to ask a question unless you already know the answer. He'll try to rip it out of you in front of everyone. He assigns massive trig homework near midterm and calls it review so he barely goes over any of it. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

Sheesh, every time I attend the class, it's DUHZ....HUH?... sometimes he'll say, "Go back and read on your own." Won't go through homework unless more than 7 students are stuck on a particular question. Have to study mainly by myself but still don't understand anything--> how to take tests/exams?

Hey Doug, you should review your drop rate as well as the overall grades your students get. That will tell you how bad you are at teaching... He's very rude and arrogant. Don't reccommend taking his classes.
Very arrogant,not knowing how to teach, still teaching unfortunately. Doesn't really teach in class just sits back and let us do problems ourselves in class, man I can do that on my own. i took his class last year, it was a unforgetable experience, horrible and terrifying... if you want to stay in mt. sac forever and stuck with 180, i recommand him on that.
He fustrates most of his students. By assigning an average of 4 hours worth of H.W. per day. Never explaining or clearifying ANYTHING! During class meetings he'd say: "That's it!that's the right answer." HELLO??? EXPLAIN how u got that?!!! I mean, isn't it part of teaching? DOUG MARTIN U gotta go!:(
Try to make math MORE CHALLENGING with "Hum Dingers". Refuses to help the class by working problems out on the board. Makes up his own tests that do not match the book. I'm sure he uses being a tough teacher as a disguise for his inability to teach. Should retire or change his attitude.

He is the worst teacher I have ever had! He doesn't explain anything and goes through the chapters saying "This should be review so we wont go over it too much!" His grading on tests is unbelievable...The quizes have the same number of questions as the tests just worth more points.Good Luck w/ a D!
I am a 34 year old man, and he tried to make me feel as if I were a freshman in high school.He is by far the rudiest, hardest, and most uncharismatic teacher I have had at Mt.Sac.I'm transferring to UCLA fall 05,if all of my teachers were like Martin I would have dropped out of Mt.Sac after the 1st semester.Do not take him!

Pretty bad professor. Was gleefull when explaining we could expect 7hrs or more of homework a night, for a summer session. I think he un-taught me somethings as well. I'm not great at math (obviously as I am in 71), but maybe he is fine for those who are good at math. He did offer to help me, so I guess that's good. I didn't help.
Math is hard enough and important enough that you shouldn't be taking an instructor like this. You owe it to yourself to find a better instructor. Consider yourself warned!!!
He didn't teach anything. Sometimes he couldn't solve the problems students bought up. He DID give out practice final and were close to the real final exam given. but midterms were bad. I think he makes final easier to let more people pass that way. I heard that girls wear sexier and flash him with **** may help.

He was my FIRST Math 71 teacher. Horrible. Class goes by too quickly. There is always homework due and always quizzes and exams. He makes you work by yourself to start on the homework in class before you get to leave. I wasn't very good at math to begin with but now I just plain SUCK. Take him ONLY if you are GREAT at math and need no extra help.

I would have to agree with the rest of the people that have rated this teacher. He is horrible. He doesnt know how to teach. It seems like he hates the fact that he is a teacher. He doesnt explain anything, he is always giving homework, there are always guaranteed quizzes and tests and half the time you dont even know what is going on.HE SUCKS
C'mon guys, he's not that bad. The class is hard because he goes so fast, if you want to get a good grade yo got to study at home a lot. Gives you study guide, which is almost like the test. If you have an A by the end of the semester you don' have to take the final. If you like math you'll be fine. He's the hardest math teacher i've ever had.
ONLY take this teacher if you are smarter than he and already know the material. otherwise, you're basically screwed. he asks if you have questions but then will spend the rest of the class time critisizing you on what an idiot you are. only take the class if you dont mind being put down and feeling uncomfortable.
This grumpy old man made me cry twice last semester!! He's very rude and makes the classroom feel uncomfortable. He can also seem **** at times, often actually. Lastly, he made me feel like an unsure 7th grader again in prealgebra!!!

Don't take this class unless you're good at, or really like math. This instructor assigns, but doesn't collect/count homework. Despite asking he doesn't offer any review problems that would help students be prepared for problems on the exam. Can be very rude and has a condescending attitude.

This professor is not all that bad if you really no how to study. He gives homework but doesn't collect it, never gave any quizes and he curved the test. If you really understand math then take him, otherwise he skips a lot of steps because he expects you to know how to do them. But he also makes fun of the people he likes.

First off, this guy is very rude. He expects you to know everything prior to taking his class, then what would be the point to take it right? Does not explain things clearly. Seems to be more focused on intimidating students. Cares more about how many students he can fail. Gets offended when you ask questiosn about a problem. Very unhelpful.

I think he said something like he would be surprised if anyone got an A on the first day of class. He always seems to be in a hurry. He gets mad if the same question is asked. DO NOT TAKE HIM. OMG seriously i was looking for a walk in the park for math 130...like, 4 people passed the class and WOW...JUST WOW. Gotta be in class or you fail, miss a day and it can cost you your life. DO HW..HE SAYS IT'S EXTRA CREDIT BUT IT'S THERE TO TRY AND PREVENT U FROM FAILING =/. He knows his stuff though, unlike some of the other profs i had.
Well I will judge him fairly...Positive: Give extra credits. That's it. Negative: Doesn't care about the student, doesn't really teach, fast lecture, tons of homework. Luckily, I passed his class so i have to say whoever loves challenges, go to his class. 1 person gets A, few B's 15 C's and the rest failed...so yeah... good luck
He knows his stuff and so teaches FAST. But he expects everyone else to achieve mastery in prior courses before his class. Think your questions through: don't ask easy or clarification questions.Homework=mandatory; He tends to have a spartan attitude. Don't take him if you plan on being lazy. Major self-study expected.

Class is easy. It moves slow if students keep asking questions. If you don't ask any questions, then he'll continue to lecture. He explains things the easiest way possible and will explain more than once until you get it. Quizzes are easy. He goes over the material that will be on the test over and over again so you will be prepared.
Eh, hard professor. Liked him though and had him for 150 prior. He's good if you come in with some knowledge of the subject. If you're not good at math and need an easy teacher then go to someone else.
Winter session. ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS, its the only way he will help you. Dont ask about stuff you should have learned in algebra. he will NOT help you. Do the homework, its EC. Tests are hard, he is pretty abrasive at times. Take him if you have no other choice. The content is masterable, just maybe during a normal semsester.

Doug Martin probably one of the worst two or three professors I've ever had. He is a nice guy but a HORRIBLE teacher. I should have read rate my professor before I signed up for his class. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

His class is very fast-paced and he will not explain new concepts unless asked to. When a someone does ask him a question, he will make you feel stupid. He assigns a lot of homework and even though it counts as extra credit points, it doesn't help towards your overrall grade. If you're not a good test taker, don't take his class. Many people fail.
I had him fall of 08 for pre-calc. He's a decent teacher. He's very intimidating and just teaches. He's very fast-paced but if you just do the HW, you get full credit. Tests/quizzes are a hard (im not good at math) and the group work is hard too. I wouldn't recommend him but at the same time, he's VERY VERY helpful, you just need to ask! I got a B

His teaching method is pretty horrible. He basically goes over a bunch of examples superfast. However, he gives you extracerdits for doing hw, and if you have an A before the final, you won't have to take the final, he'll just give you an A. Just go to the MARC lab to get help, his class is bearable.
Do not take him. Quizzes and tests are extremely hard, hw is extra credit, even though its just 16/1000 overall... He doesn't know how to teach and explain, even if u're trying as hard as possible to do well in class. Extremely impolite, he will not answer your question, but will give u a dirty look instead... All in all, disaster. Do not take him.
it's funny to see him teaching himself in 181 throughout the whole semester.. but he uses very common problems that can be found in the textbook for his quizzes and exams, so if u can study by yourself, it'll turn into an easy class

If you are good at math, then you should take him. Homework is extra credit that goes towards your quiz grades which is 20 percent of your grade. you just have to do your part and do well on the test. get an A in the class before the final and dont even need to take the final. gives your practice final. take him! youll get an A with hard work!

Practically all his quizzes and test are made up from the book (mostly the example problems)! just dont be lazy and review before the test! also extra credit from hw goes to your quiz grade. He gives you a practice final which is basically the final itself!
He's awesome!! Easy class, and no final for A students. Hw is extra credit. Quiz and exam are almost same.

Worst professor I have ever had. He makes you feel dumb so no one likes to ask questions. Does not teach material well enough so that everyone understands it. Hes rude and unreasonable. Hes horrible. You can pass the class however but you have to deal with him which makes going to class dreadful. Avoid taking him if possible.

What kind of professor expects students to know the material that he is about to teach? It seemed like the only people in the class that were going to pass, were the people who had taken the course previously in High School or are retaking the course. Martin was awful!
For me personally,he was no help at all.He gets fustrated easily and seems to wish he was somewhere else. I really think he hates his job and he has no patience for people who are not fast learners. Sooo....my suggestion if you need someone to be patient, kind,and concerend about your success in math take a diffrent teacher.
I waited 2 years before reviewing him so that I could have other teachers to compare him to. I started at Math 51 and now I am in Math 285. professor martin is by far the worst math teacher at Mt Sac. He really should not be teaching. His teaching skills are not up to par with the rest of the math department staff. Avoid this teacher at all costs!!
He is the worst teacher in the school. Dont take him at all cost. I took him two years ago and want to warm everyone that he is horrible. I dropped his class with only 6 people left in his class! I re-took the placement test and got into calculus when I was only taking his math71. He doesn't want to help anyone and gets in arguments easily.
Goodness.... The extra credit is fine, but this professor expects you to know what he's teaching and when people ask questions, he makes them regret they ever asked. Strongly suggest other professor.
if you pay full attention and do all the homework then this class isnt very difficult but it is easy to fall behind if you miss any class or dont do hw. he moves very fast but he is a brilliant man
plain and simple, worse teacher at mt sac. I talked to the department chair to file a complaint. Either way though, there's not much that can be done. Once you're hired as a professor, it is very hard to get fired. So, he will be teaching at mt sac for a long time so just make sure to avoid him!!

He is really terrible. In his class we did almost 40 assignments. Do you believe 40 assignments?!!!!!!!! He didnt study us and we had to learn from online software. When we asked him why you give us lot of assignments, he told us you can drop two other courses for having time to do my assignments.
