Mason is one of the most boring lecturers, but his tests are really easy. He gives u the majority of the questions on the test in a book of study questions. It's an easy A if u study for a couple of hours the night before.

The geneology class is an easy class. Show up to class everyday for the handouts and attempt some effort on your family history project and you will get an A.
His class is extremely easy, yet, extremely boring.He makes the material so bland and un-interesting I would almost say don't take him.But, you'll get an A if you can stand it.
Very easy teacher. But he's very boring and may put you to sleep. Also, his tests are very easy and straight-forward. Just make sure you keep up on his boring lectures to do well on the tests, since half the test comes from his lecture.
horrible teacher and very boring
History IS boring but he made it tolerable if not intresting I took it during the summer so each class was 3hrs long so he lectured the first part and we watched a movie or were let go home for the last part of class. Tests were very easy too.
Boring+monotoned teacher.Tests are okay,however a good portion is based on his lecture. Now if you can stay awake during his lectures and actually pay attention,you will be okay but usually 8/10 people are countin the tiles on the ceiling when he teaches

Mason is fun and helpful if you are interested. His tests are easy. If you read the sections associated with the study guide questions(and not simply answer the questions)it is helpful.

Mason is pretty nice, but he is VERY boring... it's very hard to sit through the whole class.
He made me hate history! Class is boring and irrelevant because he mostly talks about his ancestors not history! Tests are a little hard because 20% is from the book and the rest from his crappy "lectures"

His lectures are VERY boring! There are 4 test (scantron - 65 questions), which are pretty easy. 1/3 of the test is off of a study guide, 1/3 is off his lectures (so pay attention if you can) and 1/3 is off movies (very very boring movies).
Worst teacher EVER! He needs to retire. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER, YOU WILL WASTE YOUR MONEY! Looks to trick you on his test, he is boring, managed to remain an 80 student but got a C as a final grade, go figure. Im going to have a talk wit that jerk.
My experience was that he was VERY SPITEFUL & AGITATED when students expressed interest. His test questions are irrelevant and based on unimportant bits of info. If you care to obtain knowledge and you enjoy learning, take this class with someone else!
his lectures are boring, but half of the test questions comes from his study guide that you have to get from the library. Study dates and the study questions and you should pass with a B or C

I regret taking this class.I am a straight A student and this class was a nightmare.I even recorded his lectures so that I could write down everything he said and will end up with a B.His tests are very hard,staying sane throughout his lectures is even harder.We need to boycott teachers like this.
This guy kept me entertained.His presence alone was hilarious.Yes, he's monotone and maybe categorized as a geek, but he's an alright teacher who was staight foward with everything and clear of what was expected of the students.Just study and everything will be cherry.
His class is boring but easy. When he does his lectures he is reading from the test itself. There is only one homework assignment the whole semester and its easy. Just get the study questions from the library and study them for the tests and you can pass.
Mr. Mason is a horrible teacher. All he did was sit on a desk and talk about history for three hours. He did not involve anybody in the class or at try to make it interesting. He's old and needs to retire.

Oh my god, worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life! Unhelpful, boring, you won't learn very litte. Test are hard. Honestly, out of 50 people in my class 49 are sleeping or text messageing. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
worst teacher at occ. does not want you to think or be involved in class. lectures for three hours straight. to pass just regurgitate information, no analysis, no critical thinking, no retention. easy but terribly boring, he is also not helpful or understanding.
he is totally monotoned. i took my class around 8am. so it was already hard getting up. the coffee gets me up. so when i get into his class, im like jumpin up and all. but you know, his super sleeping boring powers (mosty teachers have them dont you know?)is like so strong that i konk off in like 2 min!! he talks non stop. boring. really! worst!!
He is sooooooo Boring. I love history, and he is a completely boring teacher. He makes me fall to sleep all the time. All he does is Lecture, LECTURE, LECTURE! He doesn't follow along with notes, so you get lost between his words very easy. You only have to do one assignment,but DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.He needs to retire soon, or someone will get hurt.
This teacher is very boring, his lectures are very unclear and its difficult to take notes cause you cant understand what hes sayin, but if you have to take the class i suggest you read the book and download the study question,trust me the text book is more interesting then him.
This guy was so horribly boring. Even if I wanted to I couldn't absorb anything. He was mono tone and boring. Do NOT take him, you will be miserable. Most people just drop the class.
I think hes a nice old man. And he really loves his job. If you pay attention and get into it hes really not boring at all. I like him.

He just seems like he is unhappy teaching. He is angry and, well, kind of mean. I think he tries to be nice, but he just get frustrated or something with his students. I very much disliked this class and I am a history major. Good luck and pay attention to the lectures
Took Friday morning 8am-11:10am. IT WAS AWFUL! He is NOT a good teacher he is terrible at interraction with students.He doesnt use enough visual aides, he DEMEANS you if you do not know the answers or if you dare to be late or leave early for class. HE SHOULD RETIRE but he has tenure. He was SO BAD that I complained to DEAN OF Social Science.
He needs to retire, lectures=boring, talks monotone.If you take his class MAKE SURE you PAY ATTENTION to lecture. 2/3 of the test questions are off of the lecture, i fell asleep in all the lectures before the first test and did horrible. 1/3 is from book, study questions online are exactly whats on the test.

he has no personality what so ever! i needed to speak to him after class and i thought he was a very rude person. notes didnt seem to help and his lectures were boring and pointless at times. he goes off subject A LOT!
I don't know if it's a history class or an economics class. Taking notes is almost meaningless because everything he speaks about it off subject. He also talks about personal matters during lectures and both subjects are so boring, it is difficult to distinguish when one beings and the other ends. Avoid at all costs.

The class is pretty boring, but its an easy A because all of the answers from the tests come from the study guides, you dont even have to pay attention to the lecture and you will do good on the test if you do the study guide. There is only four tests and one assignment. How could you not pass.

I think as long as you pay attention in class you will do well. But trust me, once he talks he never stops. Prepare to want to kill yourself. He is like your very old grandpa that like to tell stories about the old days. Two words. VERY BORING.
Boring, book is only necessary for about 1/5 of each test. Extremely difficult as reading the book is useless for his tests. Seems to hate his life and his students.
Booorrring! If you can take someone else, do so! There are 4 mult.choice tests. He gives you a study guide but seems to pull the test questions out of his butt. Ex. What % do you need to get a B? What?!? I didn't know I was supposed to study the syllabus too!! :-/
Very boring class, but pretty straighforward and easy. Exact notes from powerpoint are online but you'll also need to take down some more since he only gives you the basics. Do the study guide questions since that is 1/3 of test. Pay attention and try not to fall asleep to the many videos shown in class since they will be on the test as well.

He's a nice guy. Willing to help if you ask. Be there for his lectures because only puts up an outline of what he's going to talk about, the test answers are not always on the lecture outlines. I only used the book for the book questions(which are all on the tests so do them!). He does get a little boring but he's sweet, not horrible.
Boring, only uses the book for a handful of questions on the test. Some of the rest are from his movies and lectures, others he pulls out of thin air.
This class was HORRIBLE! He sat behind the podium 99.9% of the time with his arms crossed and lectured. Watching paint dry is more entertaining than his lectures. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! And if you do take his class, being sober would not be advisable.

I LOVE HISTORY I CANT WAIT TO TEACH HISTORY MYSELF. Having said that if there is one thing that i learned from this class it isnt history its that when i start teaching i dont wanna be like this guy. he's nice dont get me wrong but you cant stay awake for anything trust me ive tried energy drinks coffee you name it he still puts me to sleep
Whatever you do don't take this teacher. He is boring and confusing. I learned more about him growing up in Ventura then history. I went to his office to talk to him because i was really struggling and he told me that I should not even bother and just drop the class. Talk about rude. I have never met any professor so unwilling to help his students.
He's extremely nice and willing to clarify anything you have concerns about or things you don't understand. Unfortunately, he is pretty monotone and the class can drag on, but he does show videos from time to time to break up the length of the class.
If you want to learn something about history don't take this class! He monotonous, and usually off topic. Lectures don't relate to tests, only the study guide questions are straight on the tests, and no extra credit is offered. Not enough points and he is unwilling to help when you meet in his office hours. He is old and grumpy, and he yelled at me
DON'T waist your time on Mr. Mason's class.There is no extra credit and test are misleading. A forum class immediately dropped from 200 students to less then 60. Only 2 A's and 10 B's at the end. Most student splept during class and just went from the study guide. If you take this class you will want to just shoot yourself out of misery and boredom

Going for a Hist BA so I was looking forward to this class (1875-current) its a fascinating Era. Couldnt have been more boring and FRUSTRATING! Studying didnt help, most of the tests are from his speeches and he diverts constantly. OLD Documentaries, Slide Show, Book & Speeches- Be prepared (to fall asleep)! Only Night class, so I was stuck!
Please do not take this teacher. He is boring. enough said. His test are soooooooo different from what he teaches. study guides aren't even study guides. questions to review. When you ask him a question, he tries to argue back without even hearing the student out. please take another history teacher. Having him on Fridays 8am - 11am = bad choice.
Can't believe people are hard on him!! I had him semester before last and got an A. He is always at his office hours and I think I was the only one i saw use his office hours...He will answer any question you have and likes you on time to class. I thought he was a really good professor.. Ever heard of studying? study a little and you do fine!
The archetypal boring lecture hall professor. Don't harp on this guy for being boring; it's a little expected. Harp on him for his windy lectures with too, too many tangents. Study the study guide, take good notes, you'll be fine.
Ok, he is not the most exciting person to be with for an extended period of time. BUT he gives a nice study guide, the history you go over is interesting and he is very nice. I wouldn't say "easy" A but I would take him again if I had to do it over again, it was not a difficult class and if you want to you can play on your laptop the entire time.
He is one of the worst teachers I have had at OCC. His lectures have nothing to do with the test and if you ask a question he doesn't know the answer to he will treat you like an idiot. I had the highest grade in my class (B), half of the class had Ds and Fs. I'm on the President's List and couldn't manage to get better than a B. Dont take!!!

Would be an amazing teacher if rating was based on his ability to lull you to sleep with the sound of his voice. Rambles-sometimes for over an hour-about things that aren't on the test. Impossible to take notes on lectures when theyre full of irrelevant information. NEVER lets class out early. Don't take this class.

Tests are easy just do the study guide last minute. Being in class is the hard part, I have never been in that class without napping for like 2 hours. The only thing I'll remember about him is that he takes forever to take a piss.
He was boring, but he gives you a great study guide. (It's pretty much the questions on test). EVERYONE should get atleast a B. It was 75% to get one. If you fail his class, you either didn't care or are a window licker.

Boring, can't understand what he is saying in class, lectures are useless, I tried to only study the studyguide but the studyguide is only half the test, you'll still fail. Pointless. He is very boring and not interesting person. you have to attend class and listen to whatever he is saying. on the other hand, there is not too many exams. if you study the study guide and Google his lecture outlines, we will get a B or better.
He isnt a bad teacher at all. Yes its kind of hard to understand his lectures and you will probably fall asleep once in a while but the over all class is easy. All you have to do is pay attention on the main points and do your study guide. You have 4 exams and half of the questions are straight from the study guide. What more can you ask for.

His lectures were boring, including the films. You don't need to pay attention during his lectures because they are useless; however, if you study the study guide and skim through the book before the tests, you'll get at least a B.

Come on, everyone is being a bit too harsh. Sure the lectures might be boring, but that's because most of us dont enjoy history classes. But he really enjoys this subject and knows what he's talking about. I found the lectures really helpful for the tests.
Summer 08, and I really enjoyed the class. He seems unapproachable, but if you talk to him and ask legitimate questions, he IS a nice guy. He is very monotone, but if you take good notes and do the study guide, you WILL get a good grade. And don't sleep, it's disrespectful. This is a COLLEGE class, it's not all supposed to be easy.
