This guy makes econ easy to understand, and he actually cares about his students. He even gave out his home number for student questions, now that is (naive) dedication!
He seems like a nice person. But his exam is really really really hard compare to other econ 201 profs. and sometimes he goes off topic and too fast.
This is an excellent prof. very funny and tries to engage the class. He sometimes talks about current events and how they relate to econ. His tests are harder than other econ profs, but he makes really helpful worksheets. Dr. McClintock is the best professor I have ever had.
Excellent Professor. I found his lectures to be infomative and entertaining. This teacher is very approachable and human! The only bif I had with his class was that he thought his exams were easy, when they were quite tuff. Be prepared to do a lot of independent studying in this class to do well.
he is the worst prof that i ever seen !!!!!!
Class goes by really fast somehow, even though its very boring so its hard to pay attention. He's fun to laugh at when he makes dumb jokes, usually about food or something embarassing about himself. His exams kinda suck though, some questions are just stupid.
alright, aside from the fact that he's clearly obsessed with beer, and some woman named Fran.. oh and Britney and Justin's breakup.. well he's a great prof. i didn't find his tests TOO hard but then again i have nothing to compare them too. he's good natured and fun and a good teacher
EASY!! I'm not sure how anyone can call his class or even exams difficult. Challenging just enough to make sure you actually went to at least 50% of the classes and did some reading here and there. He's a nice guy, and the class relaxed enough so that you can absorb the occiasional interesting bit.
Awsome professor! The best I've seen from the U of C. He is very approachable and is ALWAYS willing to help! He goes out of his way if your are stuggling and his lectures are easy to follow. His tests are a bit difficult but he is willing to give out help. If you try he will help you to succeed.
This dude taught me my first econ class back in the fall of '99. He's a great guy and cares about his students. He inspired me to get an econ degree. In April 2005, I will have a BA Honors in Economics.
Great Prof! He loves what he does and that is refreshing. There are not many profs as enthusiastic as he is at UofC. His lectures are clear and he gives good notes and worksheets to help you understand concepts. He is a very amusing man, but get nervous sometimes about his bad jokes.
This guy is one of the best teachers, let alone post-secondary profs I have ever had. Down to earth and clear, he doesn't have to dumb down the material at all. His style of teaching is informative and interesting. I suppose his tests are challenging... but you're in university for a reason...
Doug is a nice guy and a smart professor, he tells funny jokes and stories but I wasnt a big fan of his tests
Doug is one of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life. He is kind and considerate and will sacrifice his own time to lend a hand. He even allows students to call him at home for help. The u of c needs more profs like him and I found him to be full of inspiration for even the students struggling. Amazing prof and I wish him all the best!
Wants his students to suceed. Such a nice guy, tries to make economics intresting. Very knowledgeable. Final was brutally hard. But he was amazing!
Amazing prof. I don't know if the rest of you are retarded or something, but his tests are extremely easy. Just open the textbook! My first A+ in University. Definitly take this class with him.
Fairly interesting teacher. His tests focused on specific things which were not usually covered in detail. Required a lot of reading of the text to understand topics that he should have explained. His final had 1 question owrth nearly half the test. Fairly mindless work that even he said he only does using excel. I've heard Schlenker is far better.
The textbook is a must, read as you go through the course, do not leave the readings just for the final and the midterm. Super nice guy, fun, and approachable. However, the tests were extremely hard.
Not a bad teacher. Very friendly and out-going. Even though he always tell cold jokes...However, His lecture and notes are pretty easy to understand. Read the textbook is a must-have requirement in order to pass the course. The tests are hard though...T_T
As a person, Doug is an extremely friendly and nice guy. Always willing to help, he even gives out his home phone number in class so you can call him if you're stressed. The only thing I found was that his lectures were a little boring and dry, and he has a tendency to tell really lame jokes. The textbook is a MUST as his tests are pretty hard. :)
Doug is a really nice guy, and he tries really hard to make class interesting. I found his midterm and final quite hard. He doesnt relese any old exams or practice questions which I think was his only downfall. Overall really nice guy, and he cares about his students alot!
Amazing prof! Loved the jokes and the hands on examples.... Final was tough tho! Midterm not too bad....Amazingly helpful, you just have to ask!
Amazing professor
Super nice prof. Tries to be funny and fails. Don't believe him when he says the exams are easy, you've got to put in the work.
Doug is one of the nicest and out reaching prof out there. It's nice to know that there are some professors out there who want to help. He does have challenging exams, you will need to put in the effort. Although his lectures are boring, he does make it as interesting as he can. Overall, very good prof who know's his stuff! STUDY HARD!
Very cheery and friendly prof, but dont be fooled! His teaching style seems very easy going, but you really have to study for the tests - they are extremely difficult and don't reflect his teachings so make sure to read the textbook!

does anyone has his previous exams that i can get for summer this year?
The most ridiculous, boring, crappy lecture I have ever taken in my life. I had no choice as an optional that's why I chose this boring course.I suggest if you want to take this course don't take it with him because all of the questions are from his lecture note & his exams are hard.
The most boring optional course I have ever taken. You have to attend the boring lectures because all of the exam questions are from his lecture notes. His exams are hard. If your interested in taking this course DO NOT take it with him
Don't take it with him
I took econ 203 with him not only is this course boring he makes the exams hard too. If you even miss one lecture you wont do good at all
I did very well on the midterm and assignments; however, I found the final very difficult and largely unrelated to the textbook and lecture notes. On another note, Doug is the most compassionate prof I've had. I had NO trouble asking him questions--very approachable and empathetic. Keep doing what you're doing, Doug; just make the finals easier!
A REALLY NICE guy. The material is boring overall. He has a great sense of humor, but I found that his exams were completely irrelevant from what he taught in class.
Very boring professor! The only thing you need to take to class is coffee. His lectures were dull, boring and his final was completely irrelevant to the course material 'taught' during lectures. Don't bother taking notes, all of his test questions are straight from the textbook, and are contradictory to what he teaches! AVOID THE DOUG!
His lectures were boring and all his material was completely irrelevant to the final and midterm. The only reason I did well was because of the assignments online. I attended every single lecture, and still walked out of the final feeling like I had written a completely different exam. Avoid this professor if at all possible.
Terribly disorganized. Lecture material is irrelevant and difficult to understand. Likes to ramble and takes forever to get to the point. Prepare to read and rely on your textbook for this course.
I did not mind Doug, his lectures are a little boring but i find most econ classes pretty boring. The exams were a bit hard but nothing to extreme. Read the textbook and you will be fine. I would take a class with him again.
DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT take this class. bad prof. midterm was okay but final was BRUTAL and super long. SUPER HARD as well. he barley gives a study guide and kind of just tells you how many questions are on each chapter..long story short, you're better off taking this class with someone else. hard + long tests, long + boring lectures, lame jokes
WORST ECON PROF!! I beleive he also curves down people's grades. Unbelievably LONG final. No one was able to complete the final on time. The mid-term was okay. Overall - BAD PROF!! Avoid this guy!!
Great prof, uses a lot of real life examples when explaining economics. Draws alot of graphs, and provides examples for calculations. Midterm exam feels more challenging than practice exam which was an old midterm. No practice final exam is given. Wording of questions can be a little bit tricky. Will throw out poorly scored questions by class.
very clear, very helpful.Just keep quite during class and he will give you the same kind of respect you give him.
Nice guy, tries to keep the lecture interesting by telling stories and jokes. Very easy class so you dont have to go to lectures, he posts all the lecture notes on blackbaord.
A good professor, makes a boring subject interesting. Anyone who says this course is difficult is just plain stupid. A fair midterm exam, challenging assignments make the course interesting.
Nicest Proff I have ever had, just the sweetest guy, he was so helpful and tried hard to make a boring subject interesting. Very smart, and funny! Hard midterm and final, but most of his questions come from textbook study guide!
McClintock is one of the most amazing profs at the UofC. He really cares about his students and it shows in his teaching. He always tries to make the material interesting and is very excited about what he does. I would definitely recommend him!
it doesnt make sense because hes an amazing guy but extremely aweful teacher. His classes are extremely boring and he says a tonne of garabge. Honestly if I had a minute to live I for sure would come to his class cause his class never ends
Doug is a great prof who knows his stuff. He deeply cares for his students and really trys to help you understand the concepts of the course. He does tend to crack a joke or two and tries hard to make his students laugh. His midterms are easy, but final is a bit more difficult. Overall, a great econ prof. Definitely recommended.
His lame jokes are funny, and he does a great job at teaching ENGG/ECON 209. I love the material, but (I'll admit it) I didn't go to class after the midterm. However, if you read his notes online, and have some buddies to leak you info on what he said in class that's going to be on the exam, everything his easy as pie.
Very, very kind guy.. Final exam was brutal though.. People were walking out crying... Generally very helpful.. The first half of the course is waaay easier so make sure you ace the midterm as it will help downplay the final if you don't do well.
The lectures follow the textbook closely. The online assignments are very easy. The midterm and final were pretty easy without too much studying, and bonus marks were given. If you are going to take ECON 201, take it with this prof.
An extremely nice guy, but does not give the best notes. Tests were not easy, final was cumulative so you must read the textbook and know how to do calculations. Overall he's okay, but there are better profs to take first year econ classes with.
One of my favourite professors in the past 3 years of uni! Really kind prof who's passionate about his work! study and attend classes and you'll do fine!
McClintock is simply the most amazing, genuine prof I have ever had. He makes an effort to get to know you personally and always is willing to have a conversation in the hall. The class was very interesting, a lot due to McClintock's effort. 100% recommended!
Great prof. His tests are pretty straightforward unlike the other profs who try to trick you. i had him for both econ 201 and 203 and he does his best to help you understand the material and will help you even in the middle of the hallways
Greatest prof ever. He's so helpful, easy to approach, and funny. Tries to make his class interesting and gives you guidelines on what will be on the test. I definitely recommend taking his classes
Doug is one of the most reasonable, friendly and down to earth profs I have ever met anywhere. He is a slightly above average prof, but above that, a good man.
Favourite prof ever. So nice, friendly and approachable. Has an awesome sense of humour and tries to make the dry subject of Econ more enjoyable with silly jokes and funny stories. Would recommend him FOR SURE!
Amazing prof who will always bend over backwards to help you. Great guy who has upbeat lectures and likes what he teaches. take 203 with doug if you get the chance
He's tough, would not recommend if you have a busy scheduale. He's funny however and very helpful, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
GREAT guy. Knows his stuff and actually cares about teaching. Go to class and study his notes and textbook and you'll do great. Ended with an A- !
Good Prof who covers the material well and tries to keep it interesting for everyone.
Going to lectures is important. He doesn't really follow the textbook, and his midterm and final are quite hard. I learnt the hard way that learning from the textbook is a terrible idea considering his exams are based off his lecture notes. Overall, this course was pretty hard, final was worth 50%. He also dos not reply to emails.
Great prof. Very easy midterms and finals and really helpful. Too bad he's retiring after summer 2013.
Nice, genuine guy! You should only register for his class if you plan on attending though, the midterm and final are hard when you teach yourself from the text because he bases most of his questions on his notes and class discussions. Very helpful, funny and friendly though. He´s very easy to talk to, will go out of his way to help out.
I thought I could learn this class through the textbook, but he bases his tests on his own notes. Definitely more difficult than 201. Difficult tests, final was worth 50%.
Doug is an awesome prof, he took a brutal textbook written by a Harvard guy and made the material understandable. Midterm and final exam question are taken from lecture notes, tutorials and assignments. More profs should be like Doug and you would have a better learning environment.
he is a good prof. he is so funny and he tried hard to make his class fun. midterm was hard but final was ok. he is a kind and helpful prof.
Awesome Prof, gives you his home number if you need extra help. Midterm is easy, final is impossible. The weekly questions and the text are super helpful!
Highly recommended! Taught the material very clearly and was the most helpful and enthusiastic prof I've ever had. Decent midterm and final, but yes, attendance to classes is a must. If you do go to class, you'll defintely do well on the exams!
He was an awesome teacher and not one you will want to disappoint b/c I think he would take it personally. Go to class (he will know if you don't)and do your work. Midterm was hard but final was a peace of cake.
Doug is a very nice prof. The course itself is hard in the beginning but becomes easier in the latter half. His exams are much like his assignments. If you can do the assg you'll do well in the exams. Unfortunately, he's resigning from UC so I wish him all the best!
Doug is an awesome prof, he is very helpful and gives his students every opportunity to succeed. His lectures are well structured and comprehensive. The material is far more interesting than ECON 201. I would highly recommend this prof and going to class is definitely necessary to do well, but the text book complements his material.
Great professor. Really enjoyed class very interesting as it was applicable to industry. Had great examples and stories to back the content taught in class. Very helpful assisted a lot in office hours on economics related projects even if not apart of the course material. Great guy
Doug is a very nice prof who is always willing to help. Unfortunately, he makes his midterm (30%) and final (50%) very difficult so study more than you think you need to. Attendance is strongly recommended as he goes over material that is not in the textbook and tests you on it.
MUST go to class. Goes over his own material that is not covered in the textbook and is on the exams. Nice guy, and willing to help, gives out his home phone # so you can call him with questions, but exams are tough.
Awesome prof! Tests are based more on lectures than textbook. Go to class. and study especially for the final!
Awesome professor and awesome guy, he really likes to communicate with students and If you run into him he will spark up a conversation. He is a awesome lecturer and tells you everything you need to know.
Doug McClintock is the best prof. Ever. Absolutely legendary in my mind. Gives out his home phone number, explains everything and is just an all around boss. Take his classes, fall in love with him. You won't regret it.
Doug is great instructor. Very caring and cracks up with nice jokes in lectures. Very helpful in office hours and explains super well. Exams and assignments easiness are fair. Attendance required because he shows additional examples other than lecture notes which will be on the exam. DEFINETLY RECOMMEND HIM :)
Doug is an absolute legend, best prof at UofC, makes class extremely interesting and cracks up jokes to make you laugh, attendance is key and so is taking notes as he tests you on what he writes down, fair tests but overall great Prof, told us he will be retiring and it is a loss to future students, if he is still working make sure to get him!!
One of the most friendly profs at this school, really enjoyed having him
I absolutely LOVED Doug. He is, by far, the best professor I've had in my five years of university education thus far. Always so willing to help and is such a thoughtful professor who goes above and beyond to enable your success when you put in the effort. Make sure to attend all lectures, they are incredibly valuable!
Doug is AWESOME! He is really nice!! He still uses the overhead projector but its not an issue. Show up to class he gives you answers for the final. He posts his notes. Really clear at explaining, really funny, and makes classes interesting with his stories.
Doug is the greastest prof at U of C! His lectures are clear and willing to help out everybody. Lecture attendance and effort in the course are mandatory. I came to his office hours to ask him for explanations and he did his best to make sure that I understand it. YOU ROCK DOUG ;)
Sometimes tough to follow along in class as there is so much number crunching. In the end his online notes were very helpful and i cant complain and they answered all the problems i had from not going to class ;)
This prof is wonderful. He cares a lot about you doing well in his class and offers good notes, examples, and even his home number if you really need to contact him for help. mdterm and final was really fair. You must attend every lecture though because some examples and things in writes on the board in class or talks about can appear on the exams.
He is an awesome prof.loved his class. He explains stuff extremely clear. Easy assignments, gives you the answers for the final. Very nice guy and answers all of your questions.
Great guy as well as a great teacher! He does a lot of examples in class to help you understand concepts and doesn't move too fast. Assignments are fairly straight forward and help you prepare for tests. He posts good notes but still make sure you read the text. Good class.
His lectures were quite good and he covered everything clearly with good examples. I could follow him quite well. The Aplia stuff worked well and if you take your time you can do well in the class. It was a really good course and he was good to teach it so I could understand the theories for the following content in the higher Econ courses.
Doug is fantastic! I found his lectures easy to follow and his jokes are great. It is not just that though, he will personally thank students if they help him in someway and invites students to call him at home if they need help on the weekend. This guy is here for the students. A word to the wise, the midterm is easy but the final takes work.
Prof. McClintock is one of those rare professors that CARES about YOU as a student. Despite being in a 200+ student class, he made an effort to know your name and connect with you personally. He genuinely wants you to do well even going to far as to give out his personal phone number! Fantastic prof, which is a must since its tough content!
Doug is really the best prof ever. He genuinely cares about his students. Even in such large classes he makes sure to get to know you. He's a great prof, clear notes and teaching and just overall a great guy, sad that he's retiring soon but happy 60th Doug! Honestly it will be hard for any other prof to compete now! Thanks for a great econ class :)
Doug is a great guy! he cares so much about his students & posts notes for each chapter on D2L. I highly suggest you get Doug as a prof. There are times where Econ gets dry, but Doug will brighten your day with his weekly TGIF jokes. If you need help, he has his office hours open and there even is a mini fridge in there with a bunch of drinks!
Badly structured lecture. If you plan to skip all the class and get A in his class, then avoid. I know better than his notes.
Okay prof. His tests were pretty easy. Textbook and the assignment submission system was a ripoff. Does not post answers to sample midterm and when asked to answer a few by email, his excuse was that he has 500 students and did not help. His notes are horrible, so you have to rely on the textbook. He used the overhead and was real messy.
McClintock is super nice guy, gives you his phone number as a resource if you help, however his final was impossible. This likely had to do with how he never posted his notes online on time so class was usually unprepared which left my notes in a jumble. I got an A+ on his midterm with minimal studying but i left the final feeling as if I failed.
He curved the final exam by making it 100 instead of 105 so there were 5 bonus marks - and the test was already very fair. Basically this course is very easy and he is very nice. Sometimes he is unclear but the textbook he chose is pretty good so you can consult it along with wikipedia.
Really nice professor. He shook my hand after I wrote his exam because he knew it was my last one ever. Anyways, Doug's notes are clear - class attendance isn't mandatory but he gives you hints for midtermsfinals and can answers all questions clearly. His multiple-choice questions are very specific but it's all in the notes. Would recommend.
Doug genuinely wants you to succeed; he gives you his home number and is very welcoming during his office hours. The course material is rather dry and his lectures are without structure, but he's funny! Still uses a projector, which ends up being messy and confusing sometimes. Midterm was easy, but the final was five times as hard. Good prof!
Amazing prof, very open and understanding. His midterm is really easy for this course but the final was mediocre (definitely should study for it). Other than that, he's very nice and always does jokes. I'd definitely recommend this course.
One of the nicest profs out there. He doesn't make the content too difficult to understand. He even gives out his home number for help. His exams and assignments are straightforward but he's a bit picky for the answers he wants especially on the final. However, relatively easy for a 400 level econ. I wouldn't mind taking another class with him.
Doug is a great professor for large format classes. He is very meticulous about explaining the concepts. His stories and jokes break up the lecture as well. Sometimes he made mistakes in the notes, but he was always quick to correct them. Would definitely recommend taking 201 with him.
Doug really is a prof that cares about all of his students, he takes on extended office hours, and gives you his home phone number if you ever need to get ahold of him the night before an exam. For anyone hesitant about taking 201, I can assure you Doug is a fantastic option. His examples from class are often on the exams as well.
Best prof. Absolutely loved the class.
Assignments were ok because a lot of the answers could actually be found online (word for word). Important to do well on the assignments because exams are fair BUT can also be kind of hard. Not extremely enthusiastic about helping students in office hours. Wants you to get straight to the point as if he has something else he would rather be doing
Lectures can be a bit dry, but Doug does everything he can to make the material interesting. Really nice guy and is there to help his students. Assignments are fair, and if you do the not for marks homework you will see most of the assignment questions beforehand.
Doug is a really sweet and caring prof! You can see that he's passionate about what he teaches. He also tries to relate the lessons to real life. He tries to be entertaining, but I sometimes found myself falling asleep in class (esp for a 9:30 am Econ class). The assignments are an easy 20% if you study the questions beforehand. Would recommend!
Mr Douglas is a really good prof who genuinely cares about his students, his assignments are super easy and his midterm is not that hard either. Definitely recommend taking an econ class with him
Very helpful. Great Prof, would recommend.
Such a sweet guy, so helpful if you ask for clarification for assignments. I ended up getting a lower grade even though i got mid 80's-90's on tests because everyone did SO well that it had to be curved down.. that sucked but I was really hoping to get to take another class with Doug. :)
Very friendly and approachable prof. His midterm is not hard but his final was hard and had stuff that was unrelated to anything in the textbook, attendance is mandatory for taking notes and he does not post any old final exams. if u want to get a B grade then Doug is for you, if you want an A+ take this course with Tracey
Doug is a friendly and approachable guy. Midterm was easy since he posted last year's midterm. Final was really difficult and had stuff that was not in the textbook. Also does not post ANY previous finals making it impossible to know the questions he likes to test. On the plus side for this semester he made the test out of 90 on 104 question test
Doug is a great guy. He truly cares about his students and is very approachable. My only complaint is that he wastes a lot of time in his lectures. It would be nice if he just got through the material rather than dancing around it for 20 minutes.
I had him in the winter. He teaches by telling stories involving the concepts you are learning. Goes out of his way to help students. Attend class though, sometimes certain content that is tested only shows up in lecture (it's not on the notes) and is only discussed one or two days.
There are few professors, never mind economics professors, that invest so much care and attention towards their students. With a degree in economics coming across harder material is inevitable, but just being in Doug's class is a pleasure. He illustrates concepts well and extends all the opportunity for help. Tests aren't "easy" nor are assignment
His worksheet solutions and notes don't match at all. It tells you to use one formula, but the notes use another formula Both formulas don't get you the right answer... Wow
Doug is super cute and funny, he makes adorable puns and is a delight in class. Also competent with material and friendly with questions.
Doug is truly a stand up professor who cares deeply about his students and seems to genuinely enjoy teaching. He has great stories and will give you the shirt off his back to help. I can't recommend taking a class with dough enough.
Doug is a nice guy, answers questions and tries to make the classes fun. His powerpoints and notes on blackboard can get messy. Midterms were alright, but final was quite tough. Lots of questions were not covered in the powerpoints and some subjects are left out entirely, so reading the book is recommended.
Awful prof, all he does is talk about things not related to the lecture or class for 20 plus mins every lecture
Not a bad prof, spends a lot of time off topic but will answer any questions you have. He tries to make each lecture fun and interactive. If you're just taking econ because you have to I would recommend him.
Good guy but goes off on rants sometimes, and assignments are poorly timed.
Although a nice guy, he rushed a lot of the content near the end of the term and left three of the assignments to the last two weeks. Also, the practice midterm he gave us was entirely different from the actual midterm.
Assignments poorly timed, barely teaches anything in class, posted notes are useless for studying, and was very rude in all correspondence emails. terrible prof.
Doug is a great guy who cares for his students very much, however as students have said in other comments, he sometimes gets off topic during class time. The midterm was quite easy and the assignments are fair, however the final was extremely long (about 103 questions) and given only two hours was stressful. Overall though he's a great professor.
Amazing Prof. He's very enthusiastic about the topic that he is teaching. He cares about his students and tries to make your life easier. His explanations are crystal clear. Tests are easy and not out of context. Amazing Prof.
Great prof and great class. He genuinely wants to help you succeed. Lectures are interesting and he explains everything very well.
Kindest prof I have ever had. He clearly really cares about his students, and treats us like family. He's passion for the course really gets you interested, and he understands the workload of the students so he gives you lots of time to finish assignments. Over all a great prof.
One of my favourite professors. Doug is very human, and caring, not just a professor at the end of the day. He truly wants to be a good educator and is there for his students. His notes are great to study from and is always willing to help. He's even given me advice for classes other than his that I was taking. So happy I got to have him.
Amazing prof. Doug is an engaging lecturer who truly cares about his students. He is funny, friendly, and helpful. His notes are neat and posted on D2L. Although the final is very long, the tests are fair. Attend lectures and pay attention as Doug will give away test questions. Hands down, one of the best professors at the uni.
Doug will treat you as a family! I am so sad that he said he will be retiring after winter 2017. Although I feel his notes are messy at times and would be better to use a PPT. Overall he is fantastic and makes economics a really fun class to learn about the business world.
Great prof. Too bad it's his last year. Provided very current examples of concepts. Always accessible and even gave out his home phone number. Gave answers for questions on midterm or final for those that attended lecture. Extensive midterm/final. Uses myeconlab. If you're deciding between him & Tracey for 203, take Dougie, won't be disappointed.
Doug is probably the best Prof I ever had. Lower level course with him are pretty straight forward but upper level classes are a bit tougher but they where always fair. If you have any problems or questions he will go out of his way to help you. Just an all around great guy.
Awesome prof! Doug was super nice, caring, and passionate about what he teaches! Definitely a pleasure to have a class with him. Always tried to put what we were learning into context with the real world. This class was super reasonable. Honestly, such a nice person. Thanks Doug, you rock !
Amazing prof. Sad to hear he wont be returning in 2017/2018. Get him while hes still here!
Doug is hands-down my favorite professor. His lectures are interesting and relevant, and he's super positive, friendly and knowledgable. Spells out his expectations for exams clearly, and grades assignments and exams very fairly (although expect to wait a bit longer to get them back). He's retiring in 2017, so take a course with him while you can.
It's a real shame that he's retiring next year but Doug is one of my favorite professors. He's caring, friendly and very helpful. He communicates his expectations clearly and is course materials are easy to understand. Definitely gonna miss him
Doug is the best for econ! He literally gave us his home phone literally 5 times throughout the semester in case we needed anything before an exam. He bases his grading on 4 quizzes, 1 midterm and final, which is really straightforward. Too bad he's retiring!!
Amazing prof! Doug actually cares about his students and makes sure everyone understands the material. Textbook is kind of optional as he tests on his slides/lectures rather than the text - but must go to class. About half the questions on the test are straight from assignments. Can't say enough good things about Doug, too bad he's retiring!
Doug is one of the best profs I have had. He really cares about his students and provides any help that you may need. Sad to hear he will be retiring. Going to miss taking class with him.
Really understands the material and tells lots of interesting stories and applications to this field. He really connects with his class and is fun to be around and to listen to. I believe my difficulty with the class came from the content itself and not from his inability to teach it.
Great guy, BIG BARREL
Great prof. Tells you exactly what will be on midterm and final. Assignment's weren't too bad. Too bad he's retiring.
Doug is a pretty good prof!!! Try to make his class interesting! Tell you what will be on the test.
Real gem. Sucks that he is retiring :( He said he may teach part time though. Get him if you can. His assignments are the best and tutorials will help you for the exams. Actually makes the time to know his students and jokes around with them and always came and talked to us before class started. He is very caring and well be there to help you :)
Best econ prof hands down. Cracks a couple jokes every lecture, and makes the content really enjoyable. Offers lots of real life examples so you can see that what you are learning will be really important in your career as an engineer (the class was about engineering economics). He is really accessible outside of class (phone/email/office hours).
Doug is a great guy. The midterm exam is super easy but the final is long and tests on EVERYTHING on the textbook and on his lectures, if you took this class as an easy gpa booster then take another prof!
Doug is a nice guy and has good intentions, he's very willing to help you if you need it. He tends to get off track and tells a lot of stories. I did have a difficult time focusing in his class and by the end of it, I stopped showing up. Tests are fair. Basically memorize the textbook and you'll be golden.
Such an awesome guy. To show how caring he is: he actually gives out his home phone number before the midterm and final just in case anyone gets really stressed and has a burning question. I had him for both 201 and 203. I wish he wasn't leaving because I would have liked to take a 300 level with him as well. Doug you will be missed! :'(
Doug is a great guy and teacher. This is by far the best class I've taken at U of C and the most useful in terms of using it in the workforce. 2 assignments, one is easy if you are good at excel. He grades tough on tests and homework but rewards you if you understand the material. Take this class!!!!!
Best prof I've ever had. His lectures are simple, straightforward, and helpful. He goes along with the textbook, so there is no confusion as to what topics are covered and when. He is caring, kind, and constantly willing to help. Would highly recommend this prof!
One of my fav profs at U of C. Good to see him still working even though he said he is retiring! Assignments are fair game, and even though his midterm and final is on the harder side, they are still fair game as long as you show up to class and read the material. Had him for all 200 classes and looking for 300 and 400 classes with him :)
Doug is the best prof I've had in uni, the way he cares about his students and gives out his phone number really makes you appreciate him as a person and as a prof. his class was "Pretty Cool".
Doug is the greatest prof at u of c. Genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his students and has very clear and reasonable expectations for tests. He's funny and makes a relatively dry subject and makes it enjoyable. He's very approachable and posts all his notes online. His assignments and tests are easy with even just little bit of studying.
Great prof super funny and gives a good practical approach to economics. My favorite prof I've encountered at u of c so far.
Doug is easily the nicest prof I've had in uni. Incredibly caring and helpful, he will do his absolute best to support you in your learning. He takes time to come in early to class to have casual conversations with students. He tells great stories and friday classes were always finished with telling a joke. 10/10 guy.
He is an Econ GOD! Take every opportunity you can to take one of his classes. He makes the lectures interesting and shares many "real-life" advice and situations that you can actually use in your life.
Doug is such a passionate prof who really cares about his students. All you need to do is pay attention to the graphs he draws and you'll be fine. He's very easy to contact and is always looking for way to help you do better in his class
Tightly packed midterm, about 30 seconds per question which can get very hard with graphs and counting. Cumulative final, so make sure to study well in advance. Takes note of tutorial attendance, which I found unusual. Overall very passionate, approachable guy who tells a joke every Friday to lighten the mood. Still, he didn't make me like econ
He's a really good guy and knows his Econ. He has the balls to provide his home phone number because he cares that much about his students' well being. Tells a joke every Friday, just make sure to remind him near the end. Read the textbook - sometimes questions will pop up in tests that aren't specifically covered in lectures.
Doug is like your third grandfather. He is so kind and sweet, he truly cares about his students. The class can be dry, but there are also days where he uses students for examples, brings you timbits, and he always uses examples you can relate to (going to the den). Doug is an absolute yes when it comes to Econ 201. Study your notes and you're set.
Doug is a down-to-earth guy. He genuinely cares about his students and make them feel at home. He even provides his home phone number. Every Friday he pulls out hilarious jokes that leave you in tears for the rest of the weekend. Don't sleep on his beer and wine graphs cause you'll regret it when the whole course can be explained by them. GOAT.
Doug has to be one of the sweetest profs I've ever had. on the first day he gives out his personal number so that any of his students can reach him if they are in trouble. He makes class engaging by bringing in props (timbits to exemplify aggregate sum of satisfaction) Assessments are word for word answers from the textbook and the final is fair.
100% of this course was based on tests. Study lots, even if he says the tests will be easy.. But if you study relatively easy A.
gives a very warm welcome and just a really caring and lovable prof
This man is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. Doug really cares about his all students and his course is very well prepared. 10/10 on the hotness scale.
Professor Doug is a great prof. He is extremely caring and genuinely wants his students to do well. His students are fair and you should be fine if you review the notes. Please listen to his jokes in class otherwise he gets kinda upset and its sad to see. Would strongly recommend to people needing to take Econ!
Best prof for ECON-201. Has a slightly better grading criteria than other profs who teach the same course. Be prepared for reading the txtbk thoroughly though , as the final exam consists of somewhat difficult questions which can only be answered after reviewing the txtbk. His Thursday jokes are great as well!
Doug is a prof that made me enjoy going to class. Although econ is a tedious course, he explains concepts really well and his Friday jokes make you smile. He is an extremely caring and lovable guy who cares about his students success. As long as you pay attention in class and look over the textbook the final won't be that hard.
Doug is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students. He takes time to explain topics very thoroughly and provides office hours for those struggling. I didn't use the textbook and didn't attend class often SO ACDC economics on YouTube also helped a little. Overall great prof, also has some pretty bad jokes sometimes but they can slide.
His jokes are funny 20% of the time. He gets sad if students don't get his jokes. Lecture materials are easy to follow and he always gives us examples that we can relate to. You're blessed if you have him for any classes. One of the sweetest profs I've ever met. There is something wrong with you if you don't like him as a person
Honestly great guy and person. Personally didn't like his teaching style as I was bored most of the time in class. Would highly recommend getting textbook as his slides are bare and found ACDC economics on Youtube helped me more. I will say however, I am grateful he bumped me up a letter grade since I was 0.1 away.
Very caring. Will give some hints as to what will be on the midterm/final. If you go through his notes and the textbooks the tests are easy. Class attendance is not really mandatory.
This class is mandatory because he does a lot more examples in class than in his notes that he posts online. The MyEconLab does provide you with examples of what tests look like. Only have one midterm and the final. If you don't study for this class or attend you will not do well.
Doug is super funny, an amazing professor and person overall. His notes are not the greatest and it seems like he barely teaches with all the stories he tells, but in general, he knows his stuff! Recommend getting him for ECON 201 and ECON 203 if possible.
I like him so much. He really cares about his students no matter who you are. Sadly, he retired. If he's teaching again (ECON 201/203) . I would definitely take his class. Respected! By far one of the best profs at this school. 10/10! Appreciate a lot Doug!
Doug is a great guy, genuinely cares about his students doing well and knows the course like the back of his hand. Each test is weighted a lot in the class so Id recommend being very prepared. Going to class is easier than reading the textbook so just go and save your own time. Congrats Doug on being one of the best profs at uofc!
Doug is a great guy! I honestly enjoyed his lecture, he makes sure his students understands certain concept using simple real-life examples. He gives overheads to his students so textbook is not necessary, just make sure you go over the quizzes on MyEconLab and you're good for mid-terms and finals! And oh, there are only MCQs for his exams.
Doug is an okay prof for Engg/Econ 209. He's a funny guy who puts effort into his class but he often spoke in terms that I didn't understand since I am new to econ. The notes that he posts on D2L are helpful for studying, and you will want to study since every single grade item is curved down/up according to the average mark.
Doug is one of the best proffs I've had. His lectures are clear and simple to follow, and if you prefer to learn on your own like me, his online notes are excellent in explaining concepts. He also gives optional worksheets with answers that you can do to get more comfortable before quizzes and exams. Grading is fair and with good part marks
Helps you outside class. Just read the textbook and show up passively to lectures to reinforce your learning. His lectures are ok but you will probably need to read the text to actually 'get' it. He makes jokes and generally cares about his students, which is nice!
Shame he's retiring, real funny and made course material that is likely hella boring pretty fun. either go to class, or read the textbook, both work
Doug is a very nice guy, but he repeats everything in his lectures a few times too many. Half of each class is spent reviewing last classes lecture, which is a waste of time. He evidently cares about his students but isn't quite connected with them. Midterm was worth 30% (everyone got curved up a lot; it was very hard), and final is 50%
Doug is a great prof in my opinion. He goes over all topics thoroughly in class to make sure everyone understands them well. I have seen a lot of people complaining about the difficulty of his midterms but it was very fair as long as you showed up and payed attention in lectures. Overall he's a great guy that clearly cares about his students.
He is a nice guy seems very caring and is very accesible outside of class however his lectures barely skimmed over the topics and didnt go into detail of the harder concepts. His lectures were extremely repetitive and always went off track with random stories so not much was ever covered in class but if you read the textbook youll be okay
I don't even know what to say... Doug is a nice guy but he talks SOOOO much. Every class he would tell the SAME stories for about 20 minutes. By the same stories, I mean the SAME stories. It would literally be word for word repeats of things he said the other class for 20 minutes. The textbook saved my life for real. Doug just taught me lame jokes.
Doug is a really nice guy. His slides are really good, you don't need a textbook for this class. He explains things clearly and tries to make class enjoyable. Study his notes and you will get A.
Doug is literally the best professor I have every had. He believes class should be about learning real life skills that you will actually use in the future. Don't sleep on him.
Obsessed.
A real gem of a professor, for the people complaining about his whiteboard, remember its hard on the professors too during this time.
Doug is such a legend! He is super funny and definitely makes boring topics interesting & relates them to the real world. His tests and assignments are pretty fair. Only thing is sometimes he can get off topic and rambles for a while.
"firing on all cylinders"
Really great prof, cares a lot and makes the class enjoyable. My only complaint is the ECON grading system- the curve made the assignments ridiculous and assignment averages over 90 were B's. Not the profs fault, but I will avoid ECON classes in the future due to this policy. Should have been adjusted with COVID. Final grade well over 90 yet A-.
An average prof who likes to crack small jokes mid-lecture. My biggest bone to pick with this class is questions on the final exam that don't show up anywhere in the assignments and are at best briefly mentioned during class. Feels like a big slap to the face when you review all the textbook and assignment content and are still underprepared for it
He is really a very good professor. I hope he doesn't go back to retirement since he has a lot to offer.
Doug is probably the most caring professor Ive had at UofC so far. 203 with him was a breeze, he was very clear about what would be on the exam and gave numerous excellent tips for his students to study. Exams are a bit tricky but nothing on them is unexpected or unfair. If you can, take a class with him, hes a great guy.
Most amazing prof ever! If you can, take a class with Dr. McClintock and I guarantee you wont be disappointed!
best prof at u of c
Douglas is an amazing profs and really cares about his students! He makes lectures very interesting. Honestly one of my favorite Econ professor!
