Cool guy. Quite funny. Simplifies everything.
CAN'T TEACH
Good style of teaching. I like it.
You gotta love Santa Claus!
Nice guy. Not good at teaching.
Nice guy, helpful during office hours, but during class - learned nothing
Easy going. Lectures very simplified -- so you learn nothing.
Quite good
tests are somewhat rough
Smart and helps students learn... Sometimes rambles on
Clearer and more concise than most stats profs.
hard to get to help but you get it
SANTA
Hes the nicest sweetest teddy bear:)
Mid-terms easy...Final he screwed up large...too hard!!
If you want to learn QMS, change profs. If you want to pass, stay.
BAD PROF. Bell curved test by 25% so some people would pass!No guidance or help!
Alright prof... very boring
He teaches well but doesn't stay in control of the classroom.
Give me a break, control class, teach!!!
gets carried away... no help and no sence... jumps from sentence to sentence
Gets off topic too much. Boring lectures
very confusing
dont take him.....youre better off sleeping in.you'll porbably understand more
Had no problems with him. Learn to use the calculator.
He's never available for questioning
he's very very intelligent, whoever hates him doesn't know stats!
Is calling students stupid considered a good teaching practice?
Easy prof. Tricky and confusing at times. Be careful, tests can be tricky, but usually easy. Final was a breez. If you need to, you can bargain your marks. Funny guy. Make a ****load of cash teaching, but doesn't look like it. We love Santa!
Great professor. Gives lots of examples, tests are easy. Really smart guy, loves statistics.
At first, his very confusing, but in the second, he's getting better
lectures are not very clear....ATLEAST A. Nadler is much Better at teaching!!
he is one of the best profs, i like his way of teaching he loves the calculater...and his exams are very easy specially the 1st test and the final exam they are easy like hell....
Great prof. he makes good notes but sometimes can be confusing. Tests from him are easy if you read the questions very carefully!!
Very good prof. Easy to talk to. Just needs to take control of his class a bit more. Is picky on tests and assignments.
Excellent prof.Knows his stuff, teaches it well.Always smiling and in a good mood. Always avialable for extra help.Do the hmwk. and reviews and you will do great.
good prof!!! his stuff is pretty ez, good notes too. i think he is somehow a e marker cuz he gives me good mark?
he's so hot
Good prof, compared to Tavares. You learn something from him and it will stay in your head. Compared to Tavares who is just preparing you for the test and nothing stays in your head. So I recomend Santa
All he does is examples which is not teaching... however, he has a really thorough online site with examples of every type of Q, and past midterms/exams with solutions!
WORST PROF @ Ryerson, he gets everyone confused, he starts rambling, no wonder so many people drop his class after or before the 1st test, trust me don't take this class unless you know stats without a profs help, cause Santa won't help you, tests hard
Doug is a great professor;however, you need to really understand the material in order to do well. Attend all classes because his tests are based on things he covers in class. I got an A, and an A+ in 202. Advice: Study old tests and exams.
Tries to encourage students to participate and think about what statistics mean and how they can be used and not used. This prof is very friendly and approachable. Motivates students to learn.
the material is easy but he is confusing, you have to teach yourself
If only i could be paid to stand and teach a class from a pre prepped website which even i couldnt deciper at times. May be you know what i'll go get my self a fake degree and do the same. I am sorry but this prof lacks clarity, its is undoubted that he is very intelligent he just cant teach !!!
This guy knows stats but he can't teach! He's not clear when he's explaining and you definitely need to teach yourself to pass this course..my advice; change profs!!!
he goes off on a tangent all the time you need to learn on your own also make sure to not miss any classes, to find out what he needs to change on the pdf files

Anyone who fails this course has no right to blame the prof... He can't write the tests for you! Doug is a good guy, I'd take another of his courses any time.
Good teacher, online examples make the course easy! He marks easily and is helpful when you ask him!
sweet, intelligant man who is very helpful. He will review your marked tests if you feel you were marked incorrectly. He likes students who participate in class. P.S REVIEW OLD TESTS
No notebook for course can make things tricky. However, going ot his office hours is extremily helpful. Since there is no text, there are not many practise problems for you to do.
I got an A- and walked away with a better understanding of stats. Do his online tests and you will ace the course. Much better prof than than Orla Hegarty. If you get Orla, RUN!!!
RUN RUN RUN- Disregard the positive posts- at first he seems to explain well, but further into the course he just thinks everybody is familiar with stats, does not explain concepts, all over the place: book doesn't help you much since it's antiquated and u won't have time on tests to do it like the book teaches.
Class is a breeze if learn to use the calculator and follow the steps he lays out for you. If you can do the online examples, you will do very well on the tests. Doug is unclear at explaining tho...ignore all theory that he teaches, just copy examples and follow them when taking the tests.
Great professor, however he makes a lot of mistakes and/or ommissions in his notes so you really need to watch carefully and compare what he's saying to the book. However, I really enjoyed the course and got a lot out of it.
Disorganized, can't explain, errors.People who like to not understand anything but copy mechanically the answers on tests like him- but final will contain questions not contained in midterm and never covered. You need somebody else to explain stats if you have him.
OH MY GOODNESS! I've never written a more disorganized exam in my life! The supplementary booklet had pages out of order, and nearly half the questions had to be corrected by the invigilator... It's not a lot to ask a prof to actually proofread tests before sending them to the copiers...
Good prof, his tests are pretty straight forward, open book helps too. Just make sur you have the test reviews + solutions, and you're set. Exam wasnt too bad, maybe a little tricky. Easy B.
Bloody boring! Always at least 20 minutes late for our class. Do his test practice questions. They help A LOT.
HE IS THE BEST..just do his homeworks and practice tests and u will be fine.
Ahhh What Can I say about good ol' Dougie Fresh? Don't u just wanna pinch his lil santa clause beard? what a cutey. His tests are easy, but he is the most un-organized and lazy dude in the World. (refer to 2005 regression exam)
dumb dumb dumb, hes too lazy, and not helpful...boring boring boring although very santa clause like...yet boring and dumb and goes off on 1000 too many tangents...but easy
Lazy, lazy, lazy man! Get old tests...will be exactly the same, just slightly different numbers. But lectures are boring, assignments are vague, and he's ALWAYS late.
He's a pretty good prof. His tests are easy. Just do your hw questions and practice tests. OF course the course is boring.. it's stats man!! but he tries to help and does a pretty good job teaching. Ask questions and he'll help you out. Take him!!!
Interesting class (forecasting), material is somtimes presented in a disorganized way. I wish there was a text for this course, it would have been easier to follow along. The assignments could have used more explanation as well. However, Doug does a good job overall.

GOOD LUCK....??!!!
ok, i HATE statistics, and i hated mckessock in the beginning cuz i though he didn't kno how to teach. but by the end of the sem., you'll appreciate being in his class. he NEVER uses the text, but he teaches u his own shortcuts, and convinces you with practical common sense. i'm glad i had him. the midterm was SUPER easy, but not the quizes tho...
One of the nicest guys you will ever meet in your life let alone teaching. He loves stats and can answer any question. Textbook and asking question will help fill in the gaps from his sometimes disorganized lectures. You could do pretty well in this course just reading the text which was a great one. Exams are totally straightforward.
i thought i was going to fail this course because i never really studied for the quizzes and tests.. however i still received a C.. which isnt entirely dreadful so to speak. just make sure you take advantage of the online quizzes as they make up about 12% of your mark. exam was easy as you get crib sheets. i heard chua-clare is the better prof tho
Excellent

Doug McKessock .. one word SANTA !!
In the beginning, it was hard understanding the lecture, Since he is a prof he knows what he is talking about but as a student taking course for the first time, had problems understanding, but towards the middle of the course understanding got better eventually was all good, Nice teacher, will recommend, Taking QMS202 with him.
Hes SOOOOOOOOOOOOO hot!!!! OMG DOUGGYY MAKES ME WANNA SLEEP!!!!
Hard at beginning. Gives tests with tricks...hard to understands. very disorganized..u never know what he is talking about...must learn from book...tests got easier at the end of semester.. very nice and wants to help tough..very easy going...lectrues are very slow moving..one question will take 2hours
Great Prof...easy A
Just dont take him... unless you have a good backround in stats.. just dont.
Have to go to class doesnt teaches from the book tests are hard and you will not know what to expect for the tests. Nice guy but a bad proff
This proff is undoubtebly intelligent but he just cant teach.his lectures are boring and he is so confusing. oh my God, If he is put on yo timetable, RUN AS FAST AS U CAN
santa claus himself!
He knows a lot, but I can see why others complain about his lecturing style. It's not the greatest, but if you pre-read and listen carefully, you'll understand everything he is talking about. I got an A+, so I did something right. Tests are a breeze, especially when he gives you his review tests. Do your work and an A is guaranteed.
Can't teach! Terrible Prof
Not a good teacher. He teaches from the book but gives a test completely different from what is taught (tricky questions). I just stopped attending his classes after mid-term and requested FNA as my mark. That's how terrible this professor is. He is very intelligent, though, but he just can't teach.
He is clearly passionate about Stats which is a plus of taking his class. He goes out of his way to relate the material to real life situations. His one downfall is students talking during his lectures. In order to to well in his class read his notes, take the online quizzes and listen during class.
He is the BEST QMS prof. Ryerson. Attend all his lectures/Tutorials and you'll be Fine. Trust me, he is much better the Darrel Smith. DOUG is AMAZING... I got D- in QMs 102 (with Darrel) and A+ with DOUG... You want to in STATS- DO the MATH!!!!
Right off the back. I haven't taken a course with him before. I took it with another Prof.that failed to respond to any of my emails. but Doug was really helpful, when I need help.He was the 1st prof that came to my AID when I was unclear about topic in QMS and even responded to my emails quickly & I wasn't even his student.I thought I'd share tis.
good prof helps out when you need it, give hints once in a while, exam n test are like, if you the answer you'll get 7 marks or so if not then 0, so just study the textbook, he gets REALLY confusing sometimes, read before the class!!! than you'll understand his jokes, final worth 50%
qms204 is basically same as qms102, good prof helps out when you need it, give hints once in a while, mid-term has unexpected material, so just study the textbook, he gets REALLY confusing sometimes, read before the class!!! than you'll understand his jokes, final worth 50%
IN ALL HONESTY, dont waste your time. he is super smart dont get me wrong, but he just doesnt have the gift of passing it on. yes, i saw the negative ratings here before the sem. started but i figured stats with a CRIB SHEET couldnt be hard. omgwtfbbq IT IS! he is super unclear, doesnt make sense, TAKE CLARE shes amazing
Ugh. I had high marks in stats in high school and an A+ from QMS102. He knows a lot about the subject but he doesn't know how to teach it. He spent more time mentioning ways it used to be done and testing us in a manner not similar to the final exam. Ugh.
need to sit at the front in order to understand this guy and sometimes even if you sit at the front u still cant understand him but hes a really nice guy , gives the class alot of chances , from retests to bell curves and redo homework , he gives out alot of marks, but just read the book and his notes and do ur hw and you will be fine
Douggy is the man
Doug argued with me, initially he is adamant that 40 is not a multiple of 10. He progresses to tell me that he wants "nice numbers". I didn't loose many marks from this, but this event prompted my transfer to uToronto. Ryerson should invest in professors of higher intelligence.
THIS IS THE WORST PROF IN THE WORLD. He is completely useless, and mentally handicapped. This idiot knew our midterm was canceled the day before it was scheduled, and did not inform the class that it was. WORST PROFFESOR AT RYERSON !
Bell curvess like crazyyyy...do not worry because you will end up passing...even if suck at math...good luck:)
He knows the material, but can't teach it for some reason. His notes are useless and he frequently contradicts them and has to do something different, which he doesn't post later. Tests are impossible, the answer is wrong if not exact down to the decimal. better off reading the text and not going to class as he will just confuse you
oh man this guy... doesnt use a textbook, his notes are HORRIBLE, tests crash every year and are extremely difficult, he doesnt help and hes a space case. I SUGGEST you take qms102 bcuz its equivalent for ITM students!
This guy....where to start; that basically sums it up. He is all over the place and never can keep the course organized. He has no idea how to teach and has tests, lectures and textbook which are all different material. Only mid-way through do you start to realize what needs to be done. Not recommended as a prof to have...
He's the nicest guy in the world..... and probably the most disorganized too. The lectures are sooo tedious and the online notes are actually terrible. On the other hand, He is very helpful; he really boosts those marks up, but he doesn't seems to be bothered that his 'course site' is completely outdated and unreliable + his tests are glitchy!
I took prof McKessock, winter 09 and he was very laid back and cool. His tests take some getting accustomed to but bottomline, you have to know how to use the calculator and be able to recognize what the question is asking of you.
The guy has a passion for Stats. But that's all I can say. Completely disorganized. His "website" hardly works. He constantly contradicts himself, often showing you the wrong way on purpose because he finds the math interesting. I started going to Chu Chow (the one who wrote the book) mid-sem and went from 60 to 80 by final. Try Tavaras as well.
Douglas McKessock is hands down, the worst instructor I've ever had in my life. He's scatter-brained, disorganized, & unfit to be a prof. He doesn't know how to teach at all & constantly contradicts himself. He never properly explains anything. After lectures, my fellow classmates were left feeling baffled, agitated, frustrated & terribly confused.
Listening to this guy is a struggle from beginning to end, not to mention the fact that he is always 10 to 20 minutes lates, which can have big effects on a 1-hour lecture. My advice, skip him or at least dodge his lectures and just go to his test if you end up with him.
INCOMPETENT on ALL fronts.Rude/taunting to students.Doesnt care whatsoever about our success.Scatter-brained, disorganized, LATE for all lectures.Forgets what hes taught us;often goes back & teaches concepts in entirely contradictory manners.Never gives clear answers or proper explanations.Completely WORTHLESS & has made me want to transfer to UofT
Any student of his is at a SEVERE disadvantage. Do NOT take classes with him under any circumstance! He provides no additional materials and is completely incompetent, ineffective, and unprofessional. He has no idea what he's doing and frequently can't answer students', or even his OWN, questions that he's trying to teach us. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
absolute waste of time. He doesn't teach, rarely responds to emails and tests differently from the course content. he changes the course outline at whim, his "website" is full of errors and doesn't work. When asked why he doesn't use BB he said he doesn't believe in open forums and he has no time to monitor it. Worse prof ever!
if you're reading this pre-semester, get while you still can. the other reviews are true as they say.
He cant teach at all! N when he attempts 2 teach, he starts talkin bout sum random topic, lik his wife's dress size. Lol. Overall, I only went 4 the first few classes. If u go 2 his lectures, u'll com out losing knowledge. just study off txtbk n website. dis guy mayb the worst prof evr, but his quiz n midterms were ez compared2 otha profs!
McKessock is clearly passionate about statistics, however his teaching skills aren't the best. He is very nice and approachable. But, he has a very disorganized way of teaching which can be confusing at times.
horrible prof. I dropped this class in november. if you get him switch out immediately. horrible slides, and cannot explain anything. he is very nice, but completely clueless, and he is always late, even on midterms and quizzes which means less time to write. CAUTION STAY AWAY, FAR AWAY
Course has good content but Doug does not teach. Online all tests crashed, assignments crashed, prof not answering emails for long periods of time or not at all. not around for help. He gave the impression he doesn't care about the students education but to just get paid for what he think he does. Don't take this course if he's teaching.
VERY UNORGANIZED, will sometimes lose focus during lectures and go off topic...
Wow what could I say.. he is ok at times, but helping the students when in need is really lacking from this prof. He replies to emails after the deadline for a certain ehomework question. Really lazy to update the ehomework site, and takes really long to mark anything. Maybe he should just sit at home.
Never understood what he is teaching and talking about.Always late for the class and very unclear about each topic...Avoid him
His lectures are useless and very unclear.Never understood what he is teaching and talking about.very unclear about each topic....Avoid him
Ok, He's a good professor, shows students how stats can be used in real world... he told me that he RARLY fails students on final exam, you will fail first test for sure but thats only to prepare you. I failed first test, passed second test with 70% and got A- on exam, overall I got A. He bell curves like MAD!!! there is no reason why you cantpass
Spent more time in tutoring than his class
It was by far the worst course I've taken with any prof. Sure he's a nice guy but he really sucks at teaching. Everything i learned in that class was self taught. The book is virtually useless because it teaches calculator commands when he makes u use excel.he doesn't use blackboard.he uses some horrible external site he created that always crashes
Stay away!!!! It's the biggest waste of money ever. He's a nice guy but he sucks at teaching, uses excel to teach when the book is based on the calculator, and you often find him doing calculations without really explaining how he did them. I don't even like to rate profs but this guy deserves the worst rating possible.
A really nice guy...but terrible terrible TERRIBLE prof.
THE COURSE MATERIAL IS SUPPOSE TO BE A JOKE. Though this foig goes and makes it harder than its suppose to be with his merked excel program. Aced all the quizzes when I had my calculator but struggled on exam since I had no idea how to use his excel program which is bugged as hell. Would often lock up and waste your exam time.
Not helpful, does speak english though.
There was one time I dropped by his office for some help, and it seemed like he didn't want to help me. The things he explains in class are completely irrelevant to the homework as well. There is no point in going to his class. I learned more in the tutoring center than in his lectures. On the bright side, the exam was a breeze.
His class is extremely boring and to his hmwk is irrelevant to what he teachers. There is no choice but the only way to learn is on your own. But to tell the truth his exams are easy if you study on your own and trust me, his lectures aren't not going to teach you anything.
Bell curves like MAD.I passed the first test on the dot, failed the second test, A in the eHomework, A- in the exam and final mark is A-.
He's very clear in his lessons and great at teaching the concepts. He told the class not to buy the textbook saving me $200 and I still finished with an A+. Don't listen to all these low ratings. They're probably coming from all the people that skipped on a weekly basis. Just go to his lectures, take notes and you'll be fine.
makes course material harder than it is, jolly and helpful man, got an A+ in his class without textbook mainly because I took lecture notes and sat at the very front.
This class was DREADFUL. He does not explain the concepts at all and for some reason uses Excel to teach when there is really no use for it if you know how to use a calculator. Another thing he would do is contantly switch due dates for homework. So instead of being due on Sunday, it could be Tuesday, or Thursday or whatever. Beware of that.
Really nice guy. A lot of people complain about his teaching style, but I think that as long as you attend classes and listen carefully, you'll be fine. Don't believe him that you don't need a book in this course. Pay attention to formats in assignments! Also, never try to reach him by email - he won't reply.
You don't need the textbook to do well. I skip a lot of his classes and only go for topics I'm having trouble with. I never listen during lectures and only makes notes on examples given on the board. Only studied off of ehw for tests. Overall did pretty good. Not as bad as everyone makes him seem.
His classes are ok, as long as you pay attention. Basically uses Excel for all calculations so it makes it easier on the student instead of having to enter in complex formulas in a calculator. Overall it's a decent class if you know how to use the Excel template he provides.
Professor McKessock is an amiable instructor. The majority of this course will entail that the student does the work without need of the instructor. I did not learn from going to classes, but from a friend who had taken the course before. I was not impressed with the textbook, it was too into theory, not even practice. I learned from the homework.
this class was dreadful but got a 67% on homework failed first test badly 70% on the second test aced the final and ended up with an A- in the course, whats good is that he bellcurves. doesnt teach very well but it helps if u listen in class, and make friends with someone who took the course before. Overall the course isnt too hard.
sometimes loses track of what he's saying but overall not bad
Very slow, boring, and gets off topic ALL THE TIME. You are way better off doing the textbook on your own. He's pretty useless. Before the midterm even, he tried teaching a short lesson that he forgot to teach us that was on the exam. Just aweful
