So I think I have an unpopular opinion this semester, but I actually really liked Mulford. I agree that for a 2 credit class I was working about 5 hours a week outside class and the post labs were time consuming and graded pretty strictly according to a rubric. However, I think the lectures before each lab were really good; I enjoyed this class.

I've been hearing a lot of negative talk about Professor Mulford, but I don't understand where it's coming from. He's extremely enthusiastic about teaching and chemistry. He really tries to make the class fun. He also made his class way easier this year than in previous years. Don't cheat tho, that man is serious about the honor code.

Incredibly passionate teacher, truly cares about what we learned and is obviously a chemistry geek. Only gripe is the unclear grading criteria on some assignments. Mulford isn't a bad lecturer, which is why I think he should be teaching a lecture instead. While the final is fair to the class content, the class itself is what is unfair-- grading criteria is unclear for post labs & pre-labs and TAs often can only help so much. Seems passionate about chem but for a 2 credit class it's too much work. I got an A in Weinschenk's 203 lecture so im not stupid but I did worse in this and it took more time. Mulford grades way too harshly, takes off points for anything, regrades after TAs and is annoying to talk to. GSI office hours saved me from failing. Final was fair though

Got an A but at what cost. This class was a battle every week. U can't really avoid him if it's for lab since he's the only professor so good luck is all I gotta say to that. Chill at office hours tho

unfortunately, there is no avoiding mulford. work hard to get full points on prelabs, postlabs, etc to cushion the final lab exam. final exam average was ~70 and there is no curve. spent more time and energy to do well in this course than lecture, which is unreasonable for a 2 credit course. decent lecturer but very harsh grader

This class kind of sucks. It takes forever to do the post-labs and they are graded quite harshly. I was routinely in LA sessions for the better part of a day. His final was also insanely difficult compared to the practice given. The average was a less than a 70 (he claims this is consistent for all STEM class finals lol). He does not curve.

Not the worst professor but I often did think that the workload did not fit a 2-credit lab course. His lectures were entertaining/ he is a good instructor (altho he heavily emphasizes honor code etc...). Def attend TA office hours for post-lab assignments. Only difficult part of the course was the final (right after thanksgiving break)

Extremely difficult grader. Make sure to turn in all post labs on time because 1 day late = -0.5% on final grade. Usually spent 2 days a week in TA office hours and ~4.5 hours on each post lab.

Unreasonable, unconcerned, focused only on screwing students over. Sad seeing a prof that has lost sight of spirit of education & pursuing a bizarre agenda/vendetta against students—not exaggerating. This is the one bad rating I've given, & I give forgiving, optimistic ones. Has no redeeming qualities. 200+ bad ratings should alert higher-ups tbh.

This professor is heavy on the lab assignments and it can become a lot of work. However, he is incredibly passionate about chemistry and makes this lab very enjoyable. People who tend to rate him low have a distaste for chemistry or are not putting in the work. Dr. Mulford genuinely wants you to do well and brings enthusiasm to every lecture.
