straight from the book
his tests are wack.
he's not very understanding with his student's situation
Wierd guy, not a very good teacher, strict with rules
Wasn't very hard, but very boring. I never came to class and still got a very high B. If you don't mind reading then this class is okay.
fairly easy teacher, but his lectures are very borings and he seems completely disinterested in teaching...
This class was very easy. The tests are open book/open notes and if you're quick, they're a piece of cake. I hardly studied for the tests, didn't even turn in a term paper and still got an A! Go figure.
I took his class a year ago and got a C which is a horrible grade for me.He was boring and his tests were poorly writen. The class average was a low D. Because of this he decided to let the classes he has now have open book tests. beware of this teacher.
Worse professor ever.
even though his tests are open book/notes, they are still hard. i studied hard and still got a C. his lectures are boring. paper was very easy- just summarize, but its only worth 10pts. if you don't get it first time, you have a second chance to rewrite.
You have to understand this man to do well...he is a researcher, so you have to approach him like one... Show a little interest in his work and your on his good side...Wrote me an awesome letter of recommendation...Take the time to get to know your Profs!

I loved this teacher...got an A+! he might be boring...but if u just pay attention and read the material...u'll be fine.
Worst prof. I have ever taken!
although i recieved a c in his class, i have to admit it was entirely my fault. yes, he may have a monotonous voice but pay attention and his lectures are really quite interesting. pay attention and get your A.
How can i say this...TAKE SOMEONE DIFFERENT AT ALL COSTS!!! Very unreasonable to take to & his tets have alot of hidden trick questions.
Run away. whatever you do do not take him. take anyone else. you will study your ass off and go to all his classes and if you are luck you will get c or D. HARD HARD HARD. Save yourself now.
okay teacher
Hey, if you just listen to the lectures and do the reading assignments you should do just fine. Yes, he talks in a monotone, but if you listen to the content of his words then you'd find his class very interesting. He does throw some dry humor in with the lectures occassionally. Pretty funny.
he is boring because of his dull voice. His teachings are easy if you read the book and study the notes. Make sure to understand what he is teaching and what's in the book.(read it over and over if you have to) the best thing about the class is open notes and book. I'm a last min. person and got a B
HE has a monotone voice but his class is kind of easy. Just print the PPT from his website and write down anything he says besides the PPT and your fine. the test is kind of tricky but if you go through the chapters and put the page #'s next to the PPT slides for reference the test should be easy.
Very interesting subject...very boring professor. 4 exams and 1 big paper. Not too dificult except that he has some tricky questions on the exams. Open note & book so you can pass the class easily. All psych 101 profs are boring so you might as well take him.
Didn't like the teacher too much. He's nice but tests are hard eventhough they're openbook. and when you need to do those experiment hours stuff, he doesn't really mention them until the very last moment.
He does not try to connect with his class. He makes me feel less motivated in his class...
good class only b/c u get to sleep throughout lecture without him commenting u on doing so.
bad bad bad. Don't take him. Grades super hard on papers and lab reports. Take my advise, take someone else. Also, his lectures are BORING. I acutally did better when I decided not to attend to lectures and study on my own.
If you show up to class and take notes you should be fine. After the first exam I stoped reading, what I did is I just wrote all vocab. (from that exam) and what page to find it(not the def. cuz you get open book!) this helped me a lot since you need to know the vocab. for his exams, if you have that you'll do fine. trust me!
Boring Class. I do believe it wasnt the subject that was boring but the person who was teaching it to. Speaks in monotone. Just read the chapters like he said and take notes in class and there is no way you can't Ace his exams. End of the term he also curved the whole class up so people with a C ended up with a high B. etc.
So boring! Have fallen asleep almost every day!

He did not speak loud enough even after being asked. His tests did not reflect what he taught in his lectures. I was unable to keep an intrest and found myself ditching his class all the time.
This class is for honor student only. It is possible to get an A and easy to get a "F." If your looking for Psy 302 instructor take K. Wilson.

Dr. Navarick means well, but his teaching style just doesn't click with me. He doesn't speak loud enough & I'm in the front half of the class! Exams are easy since they're open book, open note, but there are <200 points for the class. The paper will kill you. I learned more when I read the text on my own. This isn't even an easy "C" class!
I was very interested in this subject before taking this class but this teacher was very monotone and quiet. Tests are open book but the paper is ten pages and was pretty difficult. I found myself ditching and teaching myself and I was better off that way than going and listening to him drone on... NOT RECOMMEDED!
AVOID!!!! AVOID!!!! AVOID!!!! Do NOT take a class tought by this teacher. He is monotone and totally boring, Tests are hard and are not on what he teaches in class. The paper is almost impossible and he is VERY PICKY about them. If writting a paper is not your strong point TURN BACK NOW before it is too late! You'll do better to just read the book!
Are you guys kidding? The tests were simple. Only 45 questions and he even includes one obviously wrong answer in each one. He is extremely clear, a bit repetitive really. If you go every other class you'll still get to hear eighty per cent of the material. The old fims were great too. I will admit, he should work on inflection though.
Avoid Him!!! very very hard test and paper. He does open book test, so because of this, he makes the exams incredibly hard. Sometimes I even thought that the exam he was giving us were for another class. Very boring class, if possible, take this class from Dr. Scavio, he is much better. I got a "D" in this class. re-took it w/ Scavio and got "A"
This was by far, my easiest class. His tests are easy if you study for them like a studious student. Plus, they're open book, open notes! Simple. His paper is easy if you know how to write. If you go into his office during office hours you will find out what an interesting person he is and what a complicated mind he has.
he has a very monotone voice which makes it very boring and easy to fall asleep. tests are easy though because they are open book and open notes. but 5pg paper is difficult to get an A on it. hes not interesting at all. take another professor if you want to stay awake in class.
Considering changing my major because of him. Had I not taken Psych in high school, I would not be interested in this subject based on his teaching alone. I fall asleep in almost every lecture. His tests are all right. I'm better off reading alone than listening to him. ARGH!
Navarick is an amazing teacher...his lectures my be boring but his tests are super easy...honestly how hard can an open book open note test with 12-15 questions given on study guide before hand...plus there's only 35 question...he is picky about his paper but if you don't procrastinate and go to him you'll be fine easy A with help for your paper*
INCREDABLY EASY!!! Open book/note tests, makes you write a 5 page paper that is scored out of 0 (extra credit). Posts everything on Blackboard, Never attended class and got a B+. Only bad thing is this guy is BORING!!!! If you can stay awake in his class, take it!! Makes you do 3 hours of lab time too......
Awesome teacher. Lot of people complain that he is boring, but truth is the class material is geared towards academia rather than "common knowledge" which dominates the social psych scene. Go see him consistantly regarding the paper. He wants you to write in a specific manner. Don't try to wing it. Easy A class. Great Teacher
Lecture are beyong boring. He does not give good feeback on papers.
Ok, really he's a really nice man who just lonely and wants his students to visit him. His test are open book, notes, everything. Don't have to attend class, just make sure to start the paper early and GO SEE HIM. He tells you EXACTLY what he wants on the papers, so make the corrections and get a good grade.
He's easy to understand but he goes way too in depth with the material. His exams are open book, open notes so as long as you're organized, you should be fine. He's a gentle old man who loves what he's teaching. the paper is a huge part of your semester grade, but he tells you exactly what he wants in it.
Like others have mentioned his lectures are EXTREMELY boring!! I took him for the Learning and Memory lecture class and lab. The papers are the main part of each class and they are VERY VERY difficult. The lab was kind of fun training the rat..but if you're looking for an easy class do not take this one! It is a stressful and time consuming class
L&M Lab:3 projects in total. One of the hardest professors I've taken. Paper is tough. He doesn't take attendance but attend all classes anyway b/c he can remember who has been absent and a hard worker.Visit him during his office hours as much as you can so he will know at least you are trying.Dr.Navarick is still very kind and helpful.
Did not understand. so confusing, made the class boring sleepy.
Extremely hard class, he makes everything more difficult then it needs to be. Total of 3 assignments. 15 pts for stats assign., 40 pts for graphs (difficult), 60 pts 16 page paper(extremely difficult). I did well on the first two assign. its the paper that kills you, I had him revise it 3 times and I still got a poor grade, very specific on paper.
Class was completely boring and most students did not show up after first class. Open Notes/Book/Laptop for exams. Use a laptop and find things easily. Easy A on exams. Visit him during office hrs for paper and he will give you a good grade. Got A's on all exams and C-/D+ on paper, passed with B. Talk to him and visit office for best grade possible
Not supportive or available for students at all. I received A's on all exams, but still ended up with a B in the class thanks to his stringent grading of the class paper. Exams are open book, so attendance is not mandatory. Not a fun experience!
Professor Is really boaring.lectures r very unorganized, dont know if what he is saying u need to write down. he doesnt explain things very clearly. experiment on rat is fun. paper is extremely time consuming dont underestimate. make continuous revisions if you can. but even if u do bad on paper u can still pass just do well on other 2 assignments.
please do not take this class this guy is the most boring professor I have ever had in my life an easy B if you have no other choice but I do not recommend him by any means
This teacher is ridiculously boring. I failed to get an A in his class because I was ONE point away. He does not curve. Unorganized poor teaching skill. take him only if youre good at cheating.
this class was extremely easy i ended up with an A in the class attendance is not mandatory however i would recomen it because the tests are all open book and open notes and everything is in the lectures so take good notes overall really easy class and you do learn alot
I loved his class! You need to attend each class because his lecture is very helpful! Its not boring either, very creative! He doesnt speak too loud so listen up! Tests are open book. Easy, but challenging! You need to know how to apply the problems. He's very nice! I never missed a single class!
Has the ability to make every hour seem like four. Boring little man.
SSSOO BORING!!!! Most students do not go to class until the day of the exam which is open note and book. He is boring and rude. DO NOT TAKE!
In a class of 100+ I found it boring. Speaks a bit soft so it doesn't help. Got a solid B because of the study guides for the exams. He also lets us use our books for the tests (including the final)
He's a nice person but very very very boring! I fell asleep in almost every class and I typically don't ever do that. But if you're looking for an easy A then take it. All tests are open book/note and the paper isn't too hard. He gives you very detailed instructions on what he wants in the paper.
Believe the reviews. He's boring, I never went to this class because I always fell asleep. The class could be interesting. If you like open notes and book then take him. I personally would avoid, there's better professors teaching this course.
idk whut everyone is talking about. he gives u half the test as a study guide. extra credit paper worth 10 points. open book/open laptop open everything. no need to study becuz u have many resources. he has a soft voice but interesting lectures. you must attend class becuz everything is in his lecture. easiest A ever!
extremely hard to follow. paper is extremely difficult to write. notes provided outside of class rarely match up to lecture in class or to things that appear on exams. one saving grace is fairly decent study guides. recommend trying for another professor if possible
If you're truly interested in psychology, I would recommend him. He's a nice guy, and I found his lectures to be engaging. Plus, it's cute how he gets excited to show YouTube videos. As long as you show up on exam days with the textbook and notes, you can't fail since his tests are open everything and non-cumulative.
EASY A. open EVERYTHING on test. just show up for test days :) YES, he can be a bit boring, but hes REALLY smart & knows his stuff. hes a cute little man !
His test is easy if you print out his powerpoint online and actually READ IT! the best part is he gives you study guide that covers a lot of material:)
This is the easiest class by far, I really recommend you take him
Very difficult to follow. Paper is extremely difficult, answers a question with another question. Monotone, speaks softly, study guide helps a little. Avoid taking his class the course is already challenging don't make it harder than it is.
He allows open book, open laptop and open notes. (That doesn't mean you don't have to study) You have to understand the concept in order to apply it to the test questions. His test are multiple choices and he requires a 4 page essay. It's a fairly easy class if you at least try..
Definately easier than any other psych101 class, but that doesn't mean its easy. He makes open everything for the test, which helps, but DON'T take that for granted. Read the book, it helps. All the lectures and notes are online. He's also a nice guy and will help if you need it, slightly naive though.
4 exams total which are open book, open note. Gives out study guide, fairly easy course since it's considered '101.' professor uses monotone voice & speaks very softly, attendence is not mandatory. Do recommend, but don't think that this class is a walk in the park, like all classes it's going 2 require time & effort especially w/ the 4 pg paper.
He's VERRRRYYYY monotone has a couple of interesting lectures. I had trouble with the 4page paper went to talk to him and i didnt get much answered, u do have a chance to redue it though. His exam are open everything but you wont have time to look each question up so due the study guide and study!! goodluck
The class consist of 4 exams, all multiple choices, open book, open notes, and open laptop. (That doesn't mean you don't have to study, trust me, if you don't study you will fail) Put some effort and be organized and you'll do well! There's also a 4 pg essay and 5 credit of research studies.
He can be a bit boring and monotone at times but is overall a nice guy and doesn't really care whether you show up, eat, talk, text, etc. He lets you use the book and study guides on every exam even the final one. The study guides have like 15 questions straight from the test. Very easy, recommend!!!
Loved this class! Could not have been easier! 4 unit tests: open book, notes, and laptop. On top of that, each test is curved 3 or 4 points. On top of that, study guides with half the exact questions on the tests. On top of that, there's is a(mandatory)4 page extra credit paper you can earn 10 points on.Little boring b/c of monotone, but he's nice.
It seemed easy: 4 open note, open book tests and 1 essay. But it wasn't. I admit, the essay was okay, but the tests are HARD. There's so many trick questions I don't even remember were in the lecture or the book! Stay Away! Btw: He's pretty boring and monotone.
He's not the most interesting professor there is but he makes the class pretty easy. 4 exams open note, open book, open laptop. He straight up gives you half of the questions for the test beforehand. Lecture isn't mandatory but you should go. As long as you actually read the book and pay attention and study itll be easy.
This class is so easy! The test are open book, open notes, and can use your laptop. Sit in the front row and that will change everything! I found this class very interesting. He is very nice and is willing to help you with whatever you do not understand.
VERY boring, and very monotone. His class is based on 4 exams which are very hard and a paper on a chapter we do not cover. I would definitely recommend another professor.
The workload is very minimal. 4 test, 3 of which are open book, open note, and open laptop. BUT he doesn't give the whole period to finish the test so make sure you prepare. He's EXTREMELY monotone and his lectures are the most boring I've ever experienced. However, attendance is not entirely mandatory, but you should go if you want an A.
Easiest A I have ever received. The professor is very monotone! 4 tests that are open book, open notes, AND open laptop. There is 1 paper that counts as extra credit, but if you dont do it, points will be taken off your grade. You really only have to show up to class for test days.
Most boring professor I have ever taken. Never once paid attention in his class. He occasionally took attendance, but you can show up and just play on your computer the entire time. 3 exams, extremely easy. He gives you 21 out of 35 of the questions ahead of time. 1 paper, pretty hard but definitely do-able.
Although 3 out of his 4 test are open note the tests are not easy. You should definitely study a little bit before the test bc your time is limited. In the syllabus he assigns reading for each unit, I highly suggest reading those pages and answering the questions at the end of each section and chapter. Follow his rules and you'll do fine.
Honestly, I didn't understand most of the material until I went to study for the tests. He gives you 21 stem questions out of the 35, plus a comprehensive study guide online. Use those, and turn in a rough draft for your paper (I did, and made his corrections, and I got over 100% on the final draft), and you should end up with a good grade!
He's not easy for psych 302. Yes, he gives stem questions, but they don't help on exams. His psych 101 class may be open note, but the 302 class isn't. The paper is boring, there is specific material required to be mentioned and explain in it. His lectures are boring. he's an older man, and knows what he's taking about, he's just not a good teacher
I'm sorry to say but by far the worst professor I have ever taken. Extremely vague, takes forever to answer a simple yes or no question, and is very contradicting to himself and his material. One good thing is he gives you 21 questions that come from each exam as your study guide. Take another professor if you can. Also the essay is ridiculous.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COST! Trust me. He is the worst professor I have had my whole 4 years of being at CSUF. I've never studied so hard &failed an exam until this professor. He's really boring and doesn't make sense 99% of the time, his voice doesn't even project, he grades super harsh on the paper, he's rude &expects you to know everything!
lectures are very dry and boring with his monotone voice. grade is based on 4 exams and 1 paper. 3 of the exams are open book and he also gives questions to the test on a study guide but not let that fool you, his tests are hard/tricky. if you pay attention and study hard you should be fine
He gives out a study guide that has all the questions on the exam minus 15 of them. If you did the study guide, you'd only need to look up 15 questions and all are MC. Pay close attention to ratings that mostly state opinions vs facts. Just put in extra effort for the one exam that is not open notes and you'll get an A.
He gives out a study guide that has all the questions on the exam minus 15 of them. If you did the study guide, you'd only need to look up 15 questions and all are MC. Go to office hours and run the study guide by him or by email to make sure you were right. Just put in extra effort for the one exam that is not open notes and you'll get an A.
The most BORING lectures ever. Literally you could stare at a wall and be more entertained. Half the time I would just show up and teach myself the material. Grade is based on just 3 exams and 1 paper. Exams are semi-easy. They're 35 questions and the study guide has 21 of them... plus two extra credit questions. Boring lectures but easy class.
I feel like the psyc 101 reviews are from lazy students who were expecting to show up and get an A. Someone in the class got a 12 out of 35 on the first exam even though his study guide has all the answers minus 15. There is no reason you should get those questions wrong if you go to office hours to go over the study guide.
Pretty much all the reviews summed him up. He's a nice guy but his lectures are very dry. 3 tests and one really challenging paper. He let's you turn in a draft to make sure you get a good grade on it. This class is doable but definitely not enjoyable. Definitely recommend taking another professor before considering his class.
Dr. Navarick's class was horrible. I do not recommend this class to anyone-his lectures were boring, the tests were extremely difficult, and he is not very easy to talk to.
The class:3 exams 1 paper The extra credit: random attendance, turning in the essay draft , turning in the essay early, 2-3 bonus questions on test. He gives study guides that are VERY helpful with the test. Read the review powerpoint FIRST and study it, and then fill in the study guide. Show up to class. Turn everything in(early) Doable.
class is 4 exams and a mandatory paper that counts for extra credit. Honestly after the first week you don't have to show up even though I did. Just download all of his lectures and do the study guides and you'll at least get a C in the class. Content of lecture is interesting sometimes but delivery is very dull and difficult to follow.
The wisest and oldest professor at CSUF. Very intelligent, but his teaching style is not for all. Overall, this is college, no one can hold you hand all the way. So yes, there are times where you have to go the extra mile and do it all yourself with no help, but he is there to facilitate it. Class is very interesting and exams are easy
I had no motivation to go to this class. It is hard to hear him when he teaches, and his lectures are super dry and boring. There is no humor to this class at all. I stopped showing up to class and taught myself. However, he does do random attendance.
He means well & enjoys his occupation. But, he is too old school and his lectures were sorta boring. I skipped a lot of class and mostly showed up on exam days and still received an A. The exams are all open book except for one. He makes you write an essay but it is used as extra credit points. All in all if you want a class you can skip this is it
His lectures are very boring and I dreaded sitting through class. It's not mandatory to go to class and as long as you complete the study guides and read, you should be fine. The study guide answers are all mostly from the book, some are from lectures but lectures are posted online as well. If you need help on study guides email him or go to o.h
This class was a joke. The AC is louder than his voice even if you sit in the front, you still cant hear him! Theres no hw, just reading, notes, and a study guide for the 4 exams. If you are an independent learner, I guess he's the one. But if you are the type who needs motivation and visual learning, he is not it! I skipped for 2 months yikes
This is college, and the bad reviews are from the people who didn't put in the work. Honestly, do the study guides, email him for review and you basically have more than half the answers for the tests. 4 tests, 3 are open notes, 1 is not. No final. Your grade is based on the tests and your research participation. Easy A if you put in the work.
Dr. Navarick was an okay professor. There is one required paper and three exams. He offers extra credit on the paper and the exams, which was very nice. It was difficult showing up to class because I was bored:/ had to go online due to COVID, so it was even harder to pay attention. Only would take again because his class fit best with my schedule.
He wasn't terrible, he is just an older man who speaks very quietly and tends to ramble. His slides can be all over the place. If you have to take him, focus all of your best efforts on the paper. That's what saved my grade. The second half of the semester was online, which made attending worse. Try to take a different prof for this complex subject
Prof. Navarick gives over half of the exam questions on the study guides, so as long as you find the answers and understand the concepts, you'll be fine. He also gives step-by-step instructions for how to write the required paper and will review your draft if you go to office hours. No bells and whistles here, but he gives you all you need to pass.
Prof. Navarick means well but do not take him :( He's very old school at teaching. This class is difficult and unfortunately taking it with this prof. didn't help. He's always available to help but his lectures are ehh. (3) tests and (1) paper. He's actually really helpful on the paper and has clear instructions. If you take him, good luck.
Lectures were tedious, not engaging, and hard to follow. The professor doesn't know how to use zoom very well. Your grade consists of 3 exams and one extremely complicated paper. Textbook is optional and study guide gives many test answers. No Proctorio for exams but this was one of the most frustrating classes ever.
don't forget to do the paper because he will take points from all your tests. Very old style of teaching so if you don't like learning on your own don't take him. Nice guy but not a great professor especially online
He is a horrible professor in my opinion. Our whole class has basically failed the first exam but he wont make any adjustments. We asked for a litte more time for the next exam and he absolutely refused. There has been internet issues for the first 4 weeks of class and he was less than willing to help us with that. Just overall terrible and mean.
With love I say, PLEASE DO NOT take his courses unless you are ready to teach yourself. He provides all of his slides, but they're very difficult to follow at first. NOT tech savvy. Exams are straightforward only a few questions from the book. I did not read the textbook nor did I attend class. I did spend hours in the library
Took this professor for Psych 302 online in the spring, and as all the other ratings say, he is by far the worst. His lectures are confusing and he often drones on, mixing up information. Only 2 tests and an essay, yet he is a very tough grader. I didn't even bother showing up, yet I passed by working with others and by looking up the information.
I only took the class because I did not have another option. Thank God for study guides. His study guides are what saved my grades. Otherwise, I would have totally failed this class. I was actually excited to learn about learning and memory, but he lost me in first week. He is actually so nice in person but his teaching style was not for me at all.
The online course only had 4 open-note exams (with over 50% of the questions provided before the test to find answers in advance) and a mandatory extra credit paper. It's clear that Navarick has a passion for psychology, as he's been in the field for nearly 50 years, but he is not tech savvy. Lectures were slow, monotone, and difficult to follow.
Pretty cool when he was alive... RIP the homie Doug
