Knows material really well and elaborates it without a hitch. A little hard on grading, but generally relates the material well. The text a bit too theoretical making ideas slightly difficult to grasp.
She is a very good teacher, knows what she is talking about. She explains very well.
I had a horrible time in her class. She taught 90% theory, 10% example. Just didn't make sense. Help was almost non-existant. Hard to understand lecture and handwriting was terrible.
Kind of a weird teacher. i honestly thought i was going to get a d+, and i got a b. Her grading is a little abnormal. She needs to use more examples. Not very personable, and shecan get frustrated very fast. Pay attation, go to class, you should be good.
The class is very straitforward and no-nonsense. She doesn't seem very approachable but is willing to answer any questions you have. She knows the material well and comes prepared. Don't get discoraged by your test grades because most likely your final grade will be a little higher.
A pretty good professor. She knows the material quite well, and is willing to explain something more fully, in case you need clarification.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about but basically she is the worst teacher I've ever had. Only 2 people passed the class. She's horrible.
ohh myyy GOD! it's hard to understand her, she reads straight from the book pretending its her own material, she doesn't know how to teach! i failed for the first time!!
Prof. Daly is a nice lady one on one, however I would not recommend her as a teacher. She is really hard to understand and has absolutely no patience. She tries to explain the subject well, but is not able to due to her lack of patience. She does not explain the step by step process needed in a math class. Try to avoid this class.
i hate this class so much. i dread going to class each day. it sucks. she teaches straight from the book. and she barely speaks english. i hate math cause of her.
it's bad enough i suck at math. but having her has a teacher makes it so much worse. i hate her class. she should just quit her job and become a telemarketer or something. she has absolutely no personality. i'm not saying that has anything to do with math. but she just sucks at life.
This woman is insane. Even she doesn't know the material. The answers are right in front of her, and she continues to make mistakes 35% of the time. She makes EVERYTHING harder than it has to be. She even becomes confused by her methods. And then add the fact that she can barely speak English?? Avoid her.
STAY AWAY!!! horrible teacher! extremely arrogant, you cant ask her anythign or else she will put you down in front of entire class. no classwork doesnt grade hw, only like 3 tests in class each worth about 250 pts. no other way to make up your grade. gives 1 or 2 question quiz, so either pass or fail. most FAiled. She is the devil. stay away
Do not take her!! She doesn't give hw. She grades your according to the quizes and the 2 midterms and finals. When you ask her a question, she won't give you the answer you need. She constantly jumps from one thing to another. Very horrible. I don't know anyone that passed her class!!! :[
Her class is boring if you've already took Algebra in HS. However DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE it. She only gives out 2 Midterms and 1 Final, so if you fail one, it can really hurt your grade. Quizzes are easy, usually 2-3 problems. She sometimes makes mistakes when she does example problems, and often let the smart-kids in class answer all the questions.
only 3 tests in the whole class, must do well to pass the class, assigns homework but it not graded. The tests are very hard. I would try to stay away from this class is possible. I went to class everyday and did the homework and I still had a hard time with this class...
I thought this class would be a breeze. It was one semester of HELL! I haven't even done the final yet and I'm freaking out! She does not explain clearly. And she has the worst french accent. Half the class gave up after the first month. Try to avoid her, math is not her thing!
the oly way ur going to do well in this class is if you understand french. she doesnt explain things clearly. on the bright side. no homework!
I found this class to be well presented. she knows her material well. Like any course, if you do your homework, you can do well. same for her class. many students in my class did no homework, and expect to do well. if you ask me, they are very lazy. there are no free rides. LISTEN FOLKS. THIS CLASS IS FINE. DO THE HOMEWORK!.. STOP WHINNING.....
I never failed in my hole entire life until i took her course. She does not know how to explain the material and her accent sometimes makes it difficult to uderstand her. Try to avoid her class it will save you time and money.
AVOID THIS PROFF AT ALL COST. I HATED THIS CLASS SO MUCH. TRUST ME!SHE READS OFF EVERYTHING FROM THE TEXT BOOK. IT'S LIKE SHE'S LEARNING THE MATERIAL AS SHE'S GOING ALONG. SHE MADE SOOO MANY MISTAKES WHEN SHE WAS DOING PROBLEMS ON THE BOARD. THE STUDENTS EVEN HAD TO CORRECT HER. AND SHE NEVER ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION. THIS CLASS WAS A WASTE OF MONEY!
She is a very nice women, she knows exactly what she is talking about. Yes she is hard but she explain everything in a good way.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! do not get... i swear you are destined for failure if you choose this teacher. she gets mad if you ask questions in class, can barely speak english, and her answer to everything is "read the book." everyone in my class received an "F" and she refuses to go over any homework. BEWARE.
the only way anyone will pass this class is toutering and teaching yourself.. daly is no help in this course..by the way this is not an easy class... yet daly manages to make it harder than it is.
AAA!!! HORRIBLE!!! It's bad enough that she's dry and disinterested... but the woman never even checks homework, so the only things you're graded are the tests. I came every single day, took pages of notes, did my homework and STILL managed to fail her class. WORST teacher EVER.
This teacher is great. Knows material very well and teaches exactly what is going to be on the exams. Understand your HW and you will nail the tests. I struggled through 150A, B, and 250, this class was easier than any of those by a long shot. Take her.
Dr. Douraid very fair. I have a different perspective than everyone else because I studied and got an A. She makes study guides (~20 questions) before each test, and even for the final! Anything that isn't on the study guide, won't be on the test. If you aren't doing well in math, either: you don't study enough or you just aren't cut out for math!
i liked her. Her accent is tolerable, gives 5% extra credit at the end if you've done all homework. Gives study guides b4 each test and final, which are almost exactly the test just different numbers used. 3 tests and final, drops lowest test. Doesn't always take attendance but her lectures are important for quizzes b/c she uses the same problems
It wasn't the easiest class in the world but math is tough for me and I still got a C in her class. Her lectures are kind of dull but she's willing to work with anyone who doesn't understand. Doing the homework will really help when it's time for the tests since they're basically the same.
She is horrible. She goes over the time alloted for the class and over complicates problems
I liked her, make sure to do ALL the homework. Quizzes and sometimes test questions come directly from hw or examples done in class. You will know your Trigonometry if you take her.
cant understand her at all, makes every problem 10x more difficult. cant help you, will just get fustrated w/you. no personality, Doesnt collect hw, grade is based on 4 tests, and quizzes. She gets confused in her own examples, which are directly from the book. only way to pass is to teach yourself. STAY AWAY, take any other prof but her.
terrible. she acts like ur stupid when u ask a question. i wont blame it all on her bc the class is hard. but i failed the class and so did others. h/w not mandatory but she says you need to do it in order to pass...??? not recommended by me
i dont like her at all ! ugh .
Please don't get this Professor! I am only looking out for you. I failed her class and many others did as well. Even people that are good at math had troubles. When she grades your tests its like shes trying to give you the lowest grade possible.
She does nothing to help you. If you ask a question and she does not understand you, she will simply just say lets move on. Her tests are not THAT hard if you study, its just the way she grades which is very unfair. Dont take her, if you wish to have a trouble free semester
I got an A in her class, however, I learned most of the material from my math lab; and most of it from doing the online assignment. I learned almost next to nothing from her class. She makes mistakes (even the slightest that may cause huge confusion for the class) like every couple minutes. I do not recommend unless you know the material prior.
OMG!!! Stay away from her! She is not interested in helping u whatsoever! She'll just say we need to move on, and rush through the material! I took pages of notes, and studied hours on end, and I still failed the class! DO NOT TAKE HER!
Thick accent which makes it hard to understand at times. The tests, quizzes, homework, and extra credit classwork are graded hard. there are no study guides or extra help at all. if your already good at math you'll be okay, but anyone else she not take this prof.
Needs to come in with a lesson planned ahead of time
Excellent professor. Completely ignore these other idiots crying about her. Lectures are VERY helpful, exams are extremely reasonable and easy. I recommend buying the book with a friend, because you'll only need it for the homework. This class could have been MUCH worse, but with her she made it a breeze. Highly recommend.
The only reason I passed this class was because I already knew the material from high school. Her teaching is unclear and she always rushes the lectures and examples. I still got a B+ but I haven't learned much from this class. Pretty easy tests and quizzes to pass but boring lectures.
English is spotty and overall teaching methods are questionable. I honestly believe she makes the class harder than it should be.
Worst teacher ever!!!!!!!!! Do not take her. She gives quizzes randomly. Hard to understand her accent and writing. Instead of writing "m" she writes "w"thats how bad her writing is. She also talks very fast....
She is the worst professor I ever had. She absolutely does not teach. Her lecture is very VERY boring.
If you need to take her class, cause you really have to and you have no choice. It is mandatory you do some research on your own, because Daly does not teach math clearly and effectively. Remember to ask for the teacher evaluation at the end on the semester because she purposely does not give it to the students. This teacher makes math difficult.
Absolutely horrible, avoid at all costs. This was the first math class that I ever hated. Very unorganized, unfriendly, and boring. Her tests and random quizzes do not accurately test someone's knowledge of the subject, just whatever she feels like asking. Always rushes through lectures, makes tons of mistakes, and is just bad overall. avoid, her.
terrible teacher... the class is constantly correcting her mistakes. Does know for the most part of what she is talking about though and if you listen it shouldnt be to hard. if you have a problem she wont help. if you tell her to repeat something she just gets angry and tells you how to do it by speaking 5x faster. Accent could be annoying too
I was planning to do a minor in math and now after taking her class i have changed my plans...she has literally made me lose my confidence in math by the way she grades the papers...
Her Calculus III class ended up being pretty watered down. As a physics/math major, I was appalled at the way this course was conducted. Absououtely zero rigor and proofs and the pace of the class is annoyingly slow. So slow, that she didn't cover 5-6 of the required sections. She voice is a grating and her pedagogy is flawed.
She is the worst teacher. The way she grades her tests are horrible. She does not know how to teach at all. If you have not learned pre-calculus,then you will have a hard time in her class.
Terrible Teacher! Hard to understand, and gives pop quizzes every week which are hard to understand. Show up to class you will do ok and the midterms are fairly easy but i recommend not getting her as a teacher!
In Math250 she was fine. She didn't require that you buy the book because she wrote everything on the board. The class is a bit dry, but it is calculus. I would recommend her to students who enjoy a clearly defined classroom environment.
the most boring class ever. If you're going to take her class, do not listen to her lectures, go to the math tutor sessions. this will, i meant WILL help you better than her. there is no upside to this professor. if you need to ask her question, don't. she will ignore you and will move on. my suggestion just take notes and go to tutor.
Horibble Teacher!! Do NoT take her. First off she has a heavy accent which makes it hard to understand. She kicks people out for no reason. She does not recommend the book which if you decide to take her I would highly recommend the notes atleast! You will fail, but the only way to have a slim chance of passing is GO TO TUTORING!
Daly was a really good professor, at least for Math 280. She explains the material very well, and her tests are very fair. Go to class and do the homework, and you should be fine.
Most of the work she taught were on theories, which came straight out of the book. In my opinion teaching yourself would be much easier than taking her. She gets frustrated easily when students try to explain to other students what they don't understand. Doesn't give many personal examples, they're all out of the book. Don't take her, you're better off taking another teacher
Easy class, very nice lady. Has an accent but it's no where near as bad as some of the posts here are suggesting.
It was not an easy class at all. Lots of homework, 5 random class tests, 3 midterms, and the final. She is not very expert in this subject. If anybody ask a question, she does not give the short and clear answer. Never curve the grade unlike many math professors do that very often. Avoid this class if you have a choice.
She does not seem interested in helping students. Doesn't know the material well and was the only teacher in math 103 to give pop quizzes which lowered by A to a B. Usually I was more confused after lecture, the books are very helpful as well as the lab.
Keep Away!! Horrible D: take only if you want a easy Fail!
She doesnt do any favors for her students. doesnt have time to meet with students. didnt give a study guide till the last 2 tests after students complained. doesnt take a liking to alot of questions. rushes through lectures. Makes aot of mistakes in lectures that comfuse you even more. You are risking your GPA if you take her!
Professor had no interest in helping students, goes through lectures fairly fast and when I asked for office hours to come in for help she guided me to her website. Which doesn't have them posted... Doesn't sound interested in taking the time to help her students. I'd recommend you make her your last choice.
Worst professor I've ever had at CSUN. Rushes through the lectures, doesn't allow students to copy what shes writing on board while she's moved on to explaining other things. Grading is ridiculous, either credit or no credit on quizzes/exams. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, even if it's your last resort..wait another semester or you will regret it.
i dont reccomend her if you want to learn in class.. her classes are boring you wont like to go
Worst Professor I ever had. Because of her, I recieved my first fail on my transcript. She is not helpful, extremely rude, and when she lectures, she gives no eye contact with the students, so it seems as if she is teaching herself. I do not recommend her for anyone.
The professor was very helpful. She starts with little theory and does a lot of example to clarify. The examples are very similar to exam problem.
Do not take this teacher if you value your grade! Tests have few questions and she generally doesn't give partial credit so if you mess up anything, your grade will suffer badly.
Professor does not seem to have interest in the progress of students as she doesn't provide us with any study guides.Doesn't give us any idea as to how we're standing in the class..She rushes through the lectures. Seems to always be angry when she enters the class room..random pop quizzes..when you email her she doesn't respond until days later..
She confuses herself when showing examples. Takes attendance about half of the semester than stops. In class quizzes every 2-3 weeks. Sometimes forgets to open the online HW. Since I was repeating the class it was easy for me but if it's your first time avoid her if at all possible.
Professor doesn't care about us. She rushes through lectures everyday without a minute to spare. We don't have time to think. I have multiple notebooks of notes which are basically useless. She doesn't tell us anything. Won't tell us when we have quizzes, tests. No book mandatory, no study guides. No curve and barely any partial credit. Avoid her.
Almost impossible to receive an A in the class. Exams are graded extremely hard, takes off large amounts of points for the smallest little details. On the bright side, her quizzes and exams are right out of the homework problems. Take this course with another professor if possible or wait until the following semester.
Very nice professor, I pretty much enjoyed her class. Do not listen to the other raters since some of those did not happen. She usually gives pop quizzes but overall they are easy. Just use your notes since they are on the test.
Great Calc teacher. She gives an explanation for each equation so you know where it comes from. Than will give you multiple examples and help you when you need it. 1-2 pop-quiz's every week Very Easy. Tests are almost the same thing as lecture and hw. Highly recommended if you like fast paced class's.
Very boring, doesn't make the material understandable outside of formal language (doesn't really tell us what a basis transformation looks like, just kinda does the math). Very much a class that is transferring teacher's notes to your notebook, and nothing else. Not fun, just math and bad bad bad choice of textbook.
She isn't as bad as people who rated her. If you concentrate in class and follow what she says you will understand. Her midterms are easy and similar to the homework and examples explained in class. if you go to her office she will be more than happy to helpful. Her problem is the pop quizzes other than that she is nice and i enjoyed her class!
If you've never experienced higher level math concepts, you will find this class difficult. She grades fairly hard, but if it wasn't for that, my math skills wouldn't have improved as much as it did. If you've breezed through math course without much studying early on, that will stop here. She will prepare you well for upper division coursework.
She has a thick French accent and her sole activity is transferring her notes from paper to blackboard. She doesn't stop to consider that students may need or want a visualization of what linear transformations do, and also uses a very bad textbook. Do not take.
The lectures consist of her quickly copying her notes onto the board and then giving vague explanations. 12-13 sections were covered in just 3 weeks! There are pop quizzes, three tests, and one final. Beware, she is a hard grader! If you're not good at math or need detailed instructions, please consider taking someone else.
She copies her notes quickly to the board while commenting on them briefly. I have felt like classes were rushed, she is very fast going thru material that is hard to understand. Pop quizzes are fair and often, she asks from homework or class notes. Not a good professor for teaching, but if you know the subject she is a fair tester.
What she did well: Write legibly, be the most difficult professor I've ever taken. What she did badly: Explain the material, grade partial credit, have any sympathy to the fact that the online homework broke half the time. Upon demonstrating these issues, her response: "There is nothing I can do. Sorry." Partial credit on questions? LOL.
Terrible professor would not recommend her. She rushes through the material and does not engage with her students. Note taking was not helpful because half of the time your notes are incomplete with how fast she writes.
Have to admit, class was a bit fast paced but she's an excellent teacher. Take good notes, do hw and you'll be fine. She will explain questions if you ask her. Oh and you don't need to buy the textbook.
Really tough grader but does give partial credit but would not recommend for those who have poor study habits.
I took AP Calculus AB in high school but dropped out at the end of the first semester. Now I'm back to Calculus and this Professor made Calculus 1 look like Algebra 2 to me. Even though she has a low voice, she explains the lesson very clearly and the very first thing she does when she comes in class is say "do you guys have any questions?"
You don't have to buy the textbook because you can take pictures of her's or go to the library to use it, plus only some of the hw is from there, the rest is on webwork. She doesn't curve at all, rushes notes sometimes, and she randomly gives you quizzes. She doesn't seem good at replying to emails. I would recommend avoiding taking her if you can.
She's the worst Prof at CSUN. she has pop quizzes also she's a tough grader. If you don't want to pass your class take it with her. She doesn't care at all about her students. Also, even you study hard you will get a trouble grades and her tests. One more thing , her class atmosphere is too sad and bored. I don't recommend her.
Write as quickly as you can. It will help you understand the lectures. The people griping about her teaching methods are usually the ones writing the slowest. Study the material before every class because the pop quizzes can burn you at 20%. Her exams aren't impossible. Study the lecture notes, do the example problems, and sleep.
you will easily get an D
She was awesome! I took the class before with another professor at a different school and I failed. This professor explained everything far more clearly. As long as you pay attention you can pass. I did study quite a bit, but it is a calculus class so don't expect to find one where you don't have to study.
I have had professor Daly for two classes at CSUN. Math 150B and Math 280. She is a fantastic professor and also a great person. Her classes are challenging, but if you put in the work, study, and engage during lecture you WILL do well. She definitely seems intimidating at first, but she is truly an overall great professor.
Shes certainly not the worst teacher I've come across at CSUN, but certainly not one of the better ones. She was hard to learn from (my opinion). If you haven't taken Calculus before in high school and/or have a solid general understanding before hand... good luck.
She goes over concepts pretty quick. It is a hard class to earn a good grade if this is your first time learning Calculus.
Throughout my educational career, I have never had a worse instructor. The tests don't contain any similar questions as the homework assigned; the problems are practically not even similar. No partial credit given. Pop quizzes. No curves. The class itself isn't necessarily difficult, but Prof. Daly's obnoxious grading makes it impossible to pass.
If you have the chance to avoid her, do so. She is a VERY tough grader and will show no mercy or pity even if you get a problem partially correct. She hands out VERY tough tests as well. Most of the class had failing grades. Also, there is a reason why her classes are the only one open. AVOID IF YOU CAN. GOOD LUCK IF YOU OPT TO TAKE HER.
She is the worst Calc professor. I don't recommend to any student whos taking calc for the first time. She has an accent which makes it hard to understand. I learned more about Calc 1 by watching Youtube and going to tutoring. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING HER IF YOUR NOT REALLY GOOD AT MATH. Calculus is on another level, so take somebody else plz.
She is not the worst Professor as many reviews are here say, however, if you have not taken precalc and jump straight to calc then you are going to to have a hard time with any professor anyway. calc is not an easy subject. She does, however, give pop quizzes based on the online HW. Lecture heavy. Exams based on HW. Accessible outside class.
She is super IRRATIONAL when it comes to how she grades. Most of my class was consistently getting zero's on our quizzes because of how tough of a grader she is. She definitely does not believe in partial credit so if you rely on that to help you pass tests, then good luck. She has an accent and isn't very help when you ask for help. DO NOT TAKE.
Very rude when asking her questions. Does not give partial credit and very tough grader.
If you've never taken a calculus class you will definitely be lost in this class. She goes fast but she's an amazing professor. You can always ask for help or go to her office hours. The class is based on three exams, homework, pop quizzes, and a final. Attendance isn't mandatory but pop quizzes can't be made up.
The worst professor I've ever had. Lectures are confusing and fast. Each class session was like torture. Gives lots of homework. Doesn't give partial credit. Get ready for pop quizzes. No mercy whatsoever. Not friendly when it comes to asking questions and understanding the material. Don't take her. Don't even think about taking her.
Professor Daly is great, her class is fairly reasonable but its calculus lol. She cares about the students and is open to help. Her class is made up of 5-6 quizzes which one is dropped totaling 15% 3 Tests that are 15% each hw 10% and the final which is 30% as long as you participate and study the hw and try to study the material.
Notifies you of quizzes and exams beforehand. Made Differentials so easy for me! She was straightforward with teaching and grading. You just have to do the homework to study for quizzes and exams and you'll be fine. Very easy to approach also
She will ask a lot if you completely understood the lectures. She will also go over questions from the assigned homework in case you have problems progressing and will also help with your homework questions during class time. Quizzes are easy and the exams are also easy as the came from the HW. The HW is quite a lot but not difficult. RECOMMENDED!!
She is a great calc professor, she teaches very quickly and very efficiently. If you fall behind in class however it is up to you to catch up. She does not slow the class down for a few students if everyone is fine. Her tests are fair and her homework is fair.
Considering that she had to teach math online, she did it VERY well. She always stopped to ask if the students understand and will go back to explain in details if the concept is not understood. exams and pop quizzes were literally all homework problems so make sure you do your homework! she is very kind and helpful.
Nice woman, but does not know technology, writes everything by hand (lots of mistakes), and has an accent. Class was very disorganized and she was constantly rushing through lessons making it easy to fall behind. Exams are 100 points each (3), one final, and 5 pop quizzes. Bought the textbook and never used it. Write everything down in class!
She does great work in teaching. She would explain again if you didn't understand and take her time. participation is a way to demonstrate that you are interested in the class. Be aware of pop quizzes because she will tell you when you are going to have them as she will not tell you. 3 tests, but with preparation and studying you will pass.
don't recommend
Good luck if you get this professor. Rest in peace. You won't be able to cheat as well.
Show up and you will pass. I failed because I would not pay attention and when it came to the quizzes and test, I had no idea what was happening. Pay attention to derivatives, you will need it for everything. Great professor just depends on your attitude on math tbh. oh and do the homework as soon as she opens them. And don't buy the textbook.
Not one of the better professors by no means but you can get the job done if you put in the effort. Doesn't really care about helping the students, she's just there to do what she needs to get done. Not passionate at all and makes the class very boring. Grade relies heavy on exams and she does poorly on reviewing students. Take someone else.
Terrible Professor. The most unorganized professor of all time. Whats the point of having a canvas page for this class if you're not going to use it? Absolutely nothing was uploaded so I couldn't track my progress.
Daly doesn't care about any of her students. This teacher comes into work gets paid and leaves. You are graded off quizzes and exams with 10 % being hw. She grinds through examples on auto pilot while half the class is bewildered. If you are really good at teaching yourself and determined you will do good. If you want to learn in a classroom avoid.
Class was hard. If you don't show up, you will fall behind. Announces quizzes and tests days before. The class is VERY lecture heavy. You need to copy everything she writes and understand how it works. If you show up, do all the hw and study for tests you should be fine. STUDY FOR THE FINAL. Final is 30% of the class and was very difficult.
The lectures are pretty fast-paced but it didn't seem too bad, maybe partially because I already took AP Calc BC but had to take this class which was basically the same. The way she explains the material is pretty good but you might need to do some extra studying to make sure you get everything.
Don't take her class
Professor Daly is an amazing professor who is always available during office hours and provides everything you need to succeed in her class. Her teaching style is the best, it emphasizes the importance of your own effort for achieving the best results. Quizzes can be challenging due to limited time, but they help you understand your pace for exams.
Class is very lecture heavy, and she rushes through each section without giving the student enough time to process it, which gets overwhelming. If you take this class you will definitely have to do a lot of Self study and tutoring outside of class.
The professor has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class works well. Attend lectures, do the homework, and utilize resources like unstuck AI - that combo should set you up for success.
Math 150B is a challenging course, but Professor Daly makes it manageable. The class is very lecture-heavy, so staying engaged and keeping up with the homework is key to doing well. While Professor Daly may come across as a bit intimidating or distant at first, she's highly knowledgeable and does a great job clarifying complex concepts.
