Very cool guy.I like to be in his class and in his lab.He is very easy and very enthusiatic. apparently think of a teacher that always wers a cap and t-shirts with funny stuff written on it.
He was my chem lab instructor. He was very helpful with topics that that I had trouble with in lecture.
Great teacher, fun!
best lab professor ever!!!
he's cool, so far, really easy going and smart, too many kids taking the class though, he wears shirts with funny stuff written on it, so far itz been aite, i keep u kids up to date if n e thing else goes on ....
due to people saying he is very easy, he no longer is anymore, but he still teaches very good, its just that his tests are extremely difficult, he makes some very hard tests which make you think quite a bit-dont be fooled by those easy practive example problems, you have to learn to apply the material you learn in his class,,but overall good..(give
Very easy going and somewhat easy professor. You get to drop your lowest quiz and test grade, but I think all chem professors do the same. He has a quiz every Friday which they can be a little tricky. All of his test are multiply choice but for the first test. I highly recommend him!
Well , he was very clear and patient and he KNOWS HOW TO TEACH AND WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT, I just thought chemistry in general is hard. If ur weak in understanding and math, u should not take chem in general. A lot of time consuming bc u have to study so much. The teacher is the BEST Of the ENTIRE chem department! TAKE HIM DEFINATELY
he is a very understandable teacher. his teaching style is somewhat fast pace, but overall he is great.

A pretty good teacher. He is really laid back and doesn;t mind being corrected. A little scatterbrained, but a good person and teacher. If you have questions he'll answer them with no hesitation. I was happy to be in his class especially seeing how chem isnt exactly my strongpoint. It's almost impossible to fail his class if you come to class and a
He is a wonderful professor. Very easily understood and gets you excited about Chemistry. If he does not know it, he will find it out for you, this occurance is rare. He is an overall very laid back, approachable, professor, who knows his stuff!!!!!
Dr. barrow is a really good teacher
Somewhat disorganized, but he is a VERY GOOD teacher. He will always be willing to help you so take him.
Good professor. his lectures are very helpful and informative, but my problem was i would forget the material the next day. Chemistry and almost all other science classes are going to be somewhat difficult no matter who teaches it. His quizes are usually tricky, but he is really lenient with grading. i heard he's one of the best professors for che
This guy is extremely easy and fun. He doesn't even care about anything. Great TEACHER. MUST TAKE.
I hear that he is as easy as it gets.Attendance isn't mandatory but you will miss what he decides to teach and not teach on for each chapter and the extra credit. It's a bit of self teaching bc he tends to not be clear at times. Do really good on the quizzes and the lab part and you will make a B.
It was a pretty hard course. he definitely used to explain something and then be like "oh that's wrong, ignore that problem" atleast once during each class.. hard tests too!!
Pretty cool teacher, make sure to work out the problems as much as you can yourself, because he tends to fly thourgh the chapters
Goes through complicated material quickly but generally explains everything pretty well. Tests are very difficult but quizzes easy. Unless you're willing to do extra problems he lists, you'll be weeded out quickly. Gives many chances to replace or drop grades.
Class was very hard. The lecture seemed understandable but when it comes down to the tests, he gave very hard tests. Majority of the class did poorly. He's a nice guy though. Was absent a lot for health issues. He did drop the lowest test & quiz grade. If you take this class, be prepared for the hard tests & even harder ACS final!!
Was a stressful class but I got a B and am a psychology major.
Class was at expected level of difficulty. His test can be tricky but he gives you a chance to make up the bad one with your final. ACS is difficult, but its a standardized test and almost impossible to fail. Cool and laid back teacher. He spoon feeds you the information, its just your responsibililty to make sure you grasp it.
Alright, I took it spring 2008. He teaches well but doesn't have time to go over all the possible conditions. Attend SI and do the homework questions. Its hard to keep an A and hard to get a C but easy to keep a B. The ACS is hard and he doesn't curve it dramatically like he said. The acs pulled my grade down from an A to a B.
This is a hard class, be ready to study! But he is a nice guy.
Really cool laid back teacher. I strongly recommend him. His test are really hard but his quizes are really easy if you took notes. He is very helpful in office hour.
He is one of the easiest and best professors I have ever had for chemistry especially if you have taken AP chemistry before. Very laid back and helpful if you ask him questions. His tests are very easy and his quizzes are a piece of cake and takes like 5 minutes to finish. On average, his tests take 15-20 minutes max. I definitely recommend him!!!!
Dr. Barrow is a great teacher. His quizzes are really easy. His tests are kind of hard. You don't have to necessarily read the chapters, but read the major areas of the chapter, because the practice tests he distributes to prepare for the test aren't really ever as hard as his actual tests. I made an A, and currently I'm taking him for 1212 :)
very laid back and cool teacher. i had him for both 1211 & 1212; he is by far the best general chem teacher at gsu. quizzes are easy but you must study for tests to get an A in the class. attend lectures and read the textbook before tests to understand the material. drops the lowest test & quiz. I highly recommend him.
I loved Dr. Barrow he's really funny and will help you understand Chemistry. I SUCK at chemistry, but he made it simple for me. I would recommend him to anyone. Make sure you do the practice problems that he gives you. They are sometimes are on the quiz and even tests. Good Luck!!
Take Dr. Barrow. Best Chem teacher ever.
I'm going to say that Dr. Barrow is so-so, on contrary to everyone's praise of him. I don't see why so many praise him because he's actually tough on his students. He's got the best personality, but he goes through the material quickly, assuming that everyone's versed in general chemistry. I suck like hell in this course, but I tried.
I wouldn't take him again. I suggest taking him only if you know your chemistry stuff well. He went through material so quickly we always left class like 30 min early. If you know chemistry is not your thing.. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Great teacher, would recommend him to anyone looking for a basic understanding of chemistry. Will help you get ready for the ACS really well. Jokes around but stays on topic and is willing to take time to explain things.
Dr. Barrow is a great teacher. Explains concepts very clearly.
He's an awesome teacher. He is not easy but better than the other chemistry teachers. He likes question.
Had Dr. Barrow for lab and he was very nice and helpful towards the students. He clearly explained what we had to do and the lab itself was easier because of it.
Absolutely amazing! Gave great prep for the ACE exam. Attendance not mandatory, but very highly recommend. I have Barrow again for 1212, so I feel very confident that he will be helpful again!
This prof isn't all that great...only does the easy problems in class and puts the hard ones on the tests. He also goes over the material too quickly and doesn't do enough problems...his practice exams are also nothing like the tests which are much harder. The only good thing is that he drops the lowest test and quiz grade.
He's a good teacher. Teaches kind of fast though. Come prepared for tests and quizzes. They are not easy if you do not study. I made a B. You have to study and attendance in class is highly recommended. Gives extra credit sometimes, and lets you re do quizzes.
Barrow is very accessible and relates well to students; he'll answer questions before and after class, and during his many office hours. That said, his 2nd test was nothing like the practice exam or the q's covered in class-- only went over the easy q's and put the difficult ones on the test. Tests were more similar to content reviewed later on.
He's a phenominal teacher. He throughly explains the concepts and will even spend more time on subjects that are harder to grasp. His laid back personality makes the subject easier to understand and keeps me interested. If you learn best from laid back techers who love what they do then DEFINATLY take his class.
Amazing teacher. Great personality. I only wish i could take him again. If you like teachers who have laid back personalities and love what they do definatly take him.
good teacher. Quizzes are easy and are basically problems. Test are usually easier than the study guide and pretty much from his notes.
i was skeptical about chem because its my minor but barrow makes learnig the concepts soooo much easier! He tells you exactly what you need to know. tests arent very easy but it all depends on how you read the question. he gives extra credit!
He skipped a LOT of classes during the semester. He's a pretty chill professor but the tests & quizzes are pretty tough and keep getting tougher. I wouldn't recommend him. It's almost impossible to be able to get in touch with him. Although, when he does teach, he knows what hes doing and you get the stuff.
The exams are difficult, but Barrow knows how to teach. Pay attention, practice questions in the textbook, and you'll do absolutely okay.
His explanations of concepts are clear, and he tells you what you do or don't need to know. If you put in the time, you can get an easy A
This can be a tough class at times and the fact that he often curved the tests/quizzes reflects that. Barrow is an excellent professor and REALLY knows the material. If you put in the time, an A is achievable.
I didn't like his methods of teaching. He missed A LOT of lectures, and he even misplaced a test and a quiz of mine. Did not give enough info during lecture to do well on the tests. All the tests are pretty hard, but the ACS is easier than his tests. GSU doesn't have a lot of good Chem 1211k professors. I wouldn't take him again.
He's a funny guy, but he missed a lot of lectures. Honestly made me lose interest in even attending class. I wouldn't take him again.
I would never take him again!! He missed A LOT of lectures. Misplaced my graded work. I don't like his method of teaching AT ALL. I got a B in the class, but it was no thanks to him. I suggest taking Grace Ong...but her classes fill up FAST.
He NEVER shows up to class. We had to get a new teacher and we were so behind. I'm pretty sure he would've had good potential though.
Dr. Barrow missed a lot of lectures, but that was his only fault, also because he was sick. A very clear lecturer, very helpful, also gives a lot of extra credit. He is prone to misplacing things but will do everything he can to help you out. Very smart. He regraded my ACS by hand because he couldn't find the test. Awesome professor.
I was surprised to see a lot of bad reviews for Dr. Barrow. In my opinion he's awesome. I would DEF take him as a professor again. I have him for Chem 1212. Considering I hated Chem 1211, and struggled through it, I was surprised I completely understood and did well in Chem 1212. It's pretty easy, way easier than 1211.
The best Chem professor ever. Made me love Chem.
The epitome of confusion. He constantly messes up numbers during calculations so beware. Don't take him unless you're ready to constantly to go office hours to ask questions & watch YouTube videos to gain a full understanding. He offers extra credit opportunities with attendance and extra questions. But STUDY, you won't survive if you don't.
Dr. Barrow will make sure you have every resource at your disposal to succeed. His tests are difficult, so be prepared. However, he will sit with you and work through whatever issues or difficulties you are having. Be ready for a snarky sense of humor!
Dr. Barrow is awesome. He gave times before and after class to go over anything you need help with. Very caring. His exams are hard but he tells exactly what to study for. You will have extra credit opportunities every week. I didnt do any studying outside of class but went to all of his review sessions.
Loved him! Super easy class. He doesn't take attendance but if you want to pass you should show up. Content is really straightforward and he makes it easy to understand, he goes over content much better than the textbook. Quiz every week, bonus points opportunity every week. He's a funny guy!
Best Chemistry teacher I've had If you just come to his lectures and take notes then study them after you will be fine he has plenty of extra credit/bonus quizzes and is always available for hour-long study sessions right before test Great teacher
I've registered twice for chem before & dropped due to incompetent teachers. Doyle was the opposite. His lectures are organized and thorough; he spends most of the time showing you how to work problems. If you go to class and supplement just a bit with the book, you'll do well. Beware the ACS final! You can take a practice exam online for $10. Do!!
He is the best Chemistry 1211k teacher at GSU. His lectures are so on point, that you can get an A in his class. He has a lot of office hours. Overall even if his class time is only available towards the late evening, I recommend you take him. Your sleep schedule may suffer because of the time however your grade will not.
Dr. Barrow is very nice and understanding professor. His class doesn't require attendance, but his lectures are all over the place but they cover all the topics on the tests. I had him for a hybrid class, and he taught well online. He is not the most organized with grades, so be sure to keep up with the numbers and stuff yourself.
He's available and ready to help, so definitely hit him up if you're struggling. If you can find someone else with a good review, take them, he's not bad but not my first choice. His lectures are good for math but don't teach the concepts, so def be aware of that. DEF MATH HEAVY but that's chem ig. He was understanding for the online portion.
For all of the in-class quizzes, he does allow corrections and gives back 1/2 credit. His tests are pretty straightforward. He has a lot of tutor sessions if you need help, and he curves your lab grade at the end of the semester.
His classes mostly go over the math, if you want to know concepts, you'll have to do that on your own. Quizzes once a week that you can earn 1/2 the credit back. Three exams and the final. Online assignments for each unit. Definitely recommend going to lectures and help sessions, overall a decent professor who is there for students. Lots of bonus!
I loved Dr. Barrow's chem lectures! They were short (50 mins 3x a week), funny and very clear. He really cares about his students and was always very understanding. He uses a lot of analogies and tricks to help remember the more complex memorized portions of chem. He made it very clear what was going to be on tests and always on your side.
Great professor easy to learn from very easygoing also funny
Dr.Barrow is a wonderful professor to have for introductory chemistry courses. He's super chill and gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. The only problem I had with his course was that the tests were considerably difficult, but the chemistry department also determined them.
Dr. Barrow was awesome! If you're nervous about taking chem take his class. Not only does he actually teach you the material and prepare you for the ACS, he actually cares about your grades. If you go to class, actually pay attention, and study a little bit outside of class (I'm talking like an hour at most). Theres literally no way you can fail.
I was told to take him because he's really good at teaching. While he is good at teaching and keeps the class engaged, his tests are very difficult. The average on all of them is about 60% and he knows he makes them unusually difficult. He's very sweet and a chill guy, just make sure to study a lot and mostly go over difficult concepts.
Dr. Barrow is quite funny and makes chemistry easier to understand. He breaks down concepts and mathematics used during lectures and gives review, practice, and homework to make sure that you understand what is happening. The class grading scale is different than most classes, and the bonus points he gives vary from actual work to 'gimme' points.
Dr. Barrow does not use slides to lecture, so keep up. This class was challenging because I am not used to these lectures, so it is not his fault. He gave out a lot of extra credit, which helped my grade. He is hilarious and engaging with his lectures, too. I look forward to taking him for 1212!
this professor is so good! he's really nice and funny and always explains things clearly. if you need help, definitely go to his help sessions, the one one-on-one time is even better than the lecture. he shows tough love though, so don't think he's mean :)
bros the goat
Great professor, but his lectures are all in person, so missing even one lecture can make you fall behind. Make sure to attend lectures and follow the textbook and you'll do great. He's also easily accessible for office hours!
He made sure we were always prepared for the tests and gave really clear outlines of the test material. The only cons I have are that he makes a lot of mistakes on his practice questions, which confused the people who couldn't catch the mistake or didn't understand the material from the lecture alone.
love this prof!! very funny and went in great detail about everything in lecture (go to ALL lectures) and gave us lots of resources to use to study. exams were hard but quizzes were easier. gives so much extra credit!! 100% recommend !!!
Best chemistry professor in GSU.
Very good lecturer. While tests/quizzes are hard, the amount of bonus and homework opportunities throughout the semester make up for it. Also responds quickly/offers help frequently.
His help sessions are very helpful and he thoroughly goes over the most important topics that will be on the ACS exam. my GOAT
Will forever be my favorite professor. I recommend him for everyone he's amazing! He gives MANY extra credit opportunities that really saved my grade. He's a quicker replier than some of my friends too. Best professor ever!
Barrow is an awesome professor! I struggled with the contents of the class, but it's Chemistry 1212, I wasn't expecting anything different. The professor is great and keeps everything brief and direct to the point. He gives a lot of practice questions for exams, gives extra credit, and is accessible whenever needed. I would take him as prof again!!
This is the best professor I've had so far. He is so attentive to his students that he makes learning chemistry 2 easy. all you have to do is go to class, he gives many bonuses! and goooo to his study sessions! he wants you to pass if you try. 10/10
He's a good prof but the material is difficult. Be ready to study all the time. Exams are hard but he does do extra credit. He doesn't really use powerpoints tho so you have to teach yourself.
I loved Dr. Barrow! His lectures make a dry subject like chemistry bearable because he is so funny. When I took his course he helped teach chemistry at the tutoring center and he was just as caring as he was in the lectures. He gives bonuses, practice problems and is very accessible outside class. I loved having him as my Chem 2 lecturer! MY GOAT
He is a great professor that makes class interesting. He moves very quickly in class giving a lot of time for review before tests. I would go to class because there are sometimes bonus oppurtunities. He allows questions after class and tutors at the tutor center. He explains things very thourough and quick. Great professor!
Loved him! He can go through things fast, but the tests are like a study guide and he is really helpful. Engaging lectures that I recommend everyone take.
I wasn't the best at chemistry but he worked with me. If you put in the effort and he sees that then he will reward you for it, ALWAYS go to class you never know when he might drop RANDOM bonus points.
Probably one of my favorite professors by far. He's so lenient, great with teaching the lab material before we go into the lab. He's very helpful in the lab. He does ramble some, but a professor should know and love what they're talking about. Honestly, if you want an easy A, take Dr. Barrow!!! (but actually do your work and put in effort lol)
Professor Barrow is an amazing instructor! He's super approachable and always available to help, whether through email or the tutor center. Chemistry can be tough, but he makes it fun and easy to understand. Don't skip lectures they include bonus points! He's truly the best! Highly recommend!
Professor Barrow was an angel from heaven! Gives good feedback, very attentive and truly cares about his students. Ensure to come to class to get bonus points! Goes through the material at a steady pace and has many resources for struggling students! Grades very fast, exams usually come out the same day! Definitely take him for Chem 1212!
I love Dr. Barrow, im not good at chemistry but he is a fabulous teacher. He is kind, goofy, and passionate. He helps us prepare for every exam with ample materials weeks in advance. I am overjoyed to have had a chem ii professor like him
The absolute GOAT!! I love Dr. Barrow and he made me actually enjoy chem 2, he genuinely cares about his students and it shows with his lectures/review sessions. I highly stress you go to class because tho not mandatory you will be lost if you dont and he does randomly do extra credit that can boost your grade. I wish he taught orgo as well
I took him for summer semester. Pretty chill dude. Gives plenty of extra credit and helps a lot in both the labs and in studying. Very based professor
He is concise, explains things well, makes sure that everyone understands and helps everyone despite classes usually having 200 students, is available after class
Took him for Chem4000 lab, and he was very helpful! There were times where the analytical material and my brain were not clicking, and he simplified it in understandable terms!
Prof. Barrow is the GOAT. He is always there to help people succeed on a difficult subject like Chem 1 and Chem 2. Please do the Workshop worksheets and practice from Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube, and you should have no problem getting an A or B on the exams. Most of his exams come straight from the Workshops.
Prof. Barrow is the GOAT. He is always there to help people succeed on a difficult subject like Chem 1 and Chem 2. Kind professor, but vague & nonchalant with lab instructions. We had little structure & lacked instruction for the lab report & the final, & he barely clarified things if asked directly. If you need more guidance, his labs aren't great, although he doesn't grade harshly. He seems like a good lecturer, so I'd take him for lecture but not lab again.
Dr barrow is very passionate with his teaching. He will go through a bunch of practice tests, give extra credit opportunities, and teach step by step. He can be a bit rushed at times but will still answer questions when needed. The only thing I will say is that he is very bad at responding to emails, just ask him in person.
Only good thing is that he gives extra credit. His teaching is ok, the first 2 tests were easy but then downhill after that.
Good guy. Offers lots of extra credit and practice exams before the actual exam. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend you try your best to go to each class because the course is pretty fast paced and if you miss an important day you'll be thrown off course for a while. Also recommend attending his study s
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He took away powerpoints because half the class failed last year. Nice person but doesnt know how to teach.
Very good teacher. I like his teaching style a lot and he made sure to answer all questions.
Solid professor who offers extra credit points to people who show up to the class. Very easy to get an A in this class, but I feel like I mainly got an A due to previous chem knowledge. Teaching style is alright but probably the best professor for chem at GSU.
Great professor, overall does give plentiful of practice problems and exams for the first 2 units, however the 3rd and 4th unit can get quite information dense and less resources may be given for them, especially the 4th unit. Be sure to pay special attention in class and take vigorous notes as he may go over a concept on an exam only once.
Dr. Barrow is a super chill guy! You should attend class because it makes learning a lot easier, and he does random bonus quizzes at the end of some lectures.
