Excellent Prof! Taught 220 (Proofs) for the first time. He was simply awesome. I sat through the other section with another prof and there is simply no comparison. Math Proofs is the weeder course. Prof Ghioca is very clear conveying the material and lets you know exactly what he expects. Very approachable. Just awesome!!

For a difficult course, he did very well at pointing out what will be on the exam, and what is important to know. I found his office hours very helpful, he is incredibly friendly. His voice and accent is sometimes hard to understand, would not recommend for ESL students.

Probably one of the best profs in UBC. Always on time, his lecture notes are pertinent to exams and he is full of energy. Very helpful in office hours. This guy is great at math, and he can communicate it to his students. he's also pretty funny

Very funny for the first half of the course. After that, he really got serious and the class's positive energy was lessened. He is extremely helpful at office hours but tries to cram tons of course material into the short lectures (heavy courseload). Webwork problems are extremely helpful in this course. Study very hard.

Definitely the best Math professor I have ever had. His love for the course is admiring to watch and his classes, although a stressful due to the high amount of work, are really enjoyable. He constantly makes jokes with the class making it a lot easier to focus and pay attention. More professors like this guy are needed. Absolutely amazing.

If you get this guy for your course you just hit the jackpot for ubc math profs, Dr. Ghioca is about as good as it gets, he always comes to class fully prepared and full of energy, and is also quite the comedian. Despite my terrible grade I still enjoyed math 100 thanks to this guy. He also got the rowdiest applause out of all my first year profs.

There is no room to complain about this professor. He teaches with clarity and humour despite his accent and is always fully prepared. He does tons of practice problems in class (on a chalkboard so be prepared to write) and the way he explains concepts is perfect! I was never very good at calculus but I would take this class again and again!

Dragos made math fun to learn. He's such a funny guy and his classes were always quite entertaining. His section for math 100 usually got the highest section average because he prepares you for the exams.

I'm not too qualified to make objective judgements on him, seeing as I literally got 51% in this course. But yeah, he tended to be a bit unclear and kinda fast in his teaching, and it didn't help that I didn't really study much.

Out of the 10+ professors that I in my first year, Dragos was far and away the best. He explains Differential Calculus in a way that makes it exciting and interesting and he answers questions in a way that could enlighten the most confused of students. I looked forward to his lecture each and every day.

Dragos was the best professor I've had thus far. He was truly passionate about the course and made every lecture entertaining and worthwhile. Instead of going on about trying to explain certain methods he went straight into examples for the lecture with varying difficulty which really got us to learn and practice. Eccentric, entertaining, engaging. Prof Ghioca is funny, yet clear, and while he is a fast talker, he's always happy to help and guides you to understanding concepts the troubled concepts. I flunked the first two midterms from not seeing him. He saved me on the final. If you need help, see him. He's the difference between a pass and fail.

Clear explanation and hard working at class, he is sweaty all over his body after class, good understanding of the materials students need to know. He scaled the midterm 2 and final grades.

Among all first year profs I had this sem. Dr. Ghioca was my favorite. the second was was tough. After visiting him He told me if I got 50 on the final he'd pass me. With his help I must've scored over 70 on the final and got a decent mark even though the final was the hardest thing I ever wrote. I will always remember him. "Do you agree?"

Lots of enthusiasm. Very much enjoyed him teaching in class. Homework was challenging and seemed a bit like difficult brain teasers. Some questions were pulled from lectures while others required solving using various techniques from previous classes - or digging through literature. If you have time and a friend, the homework is enjoyable :)

Entertaining and engaging lectures with creative analogiescomments. Although he practically teaches from the textbook, his passion distinguishes his lecture. Dr. Ghioca is very concerned for his student's learning, and is always willing to help. Side note: to get at least an "A" do all suggested textbook problems; tests will be hard otherwise.

He is funny and clearly provide as much example as possible for us in class. If you attend lectures and do the practice problems he gives, you won't fail.

Dragos is one of the most spectacular and enthusiastic professors, and almost everyone shows up to lectures for him and the content. His fitbit step-tracker must blow up during lectures, and his 9 looks like a g. He explains things very clearly, responds to emails almost immediately, and definitely engages the whole class about calculus.

The most passionate prof I've met. He is both incredibly funny and amazing at teaching. Don't skip lectures because he explains concepts really well. Make sure to study (do practice using the online text) LOTS because quizzes are tough. The final contained questions from all the quizzes so make sure to study those and you'll be fine!

Most effective math teacher/prof I've had my entire life. Our midterm average was 7% higher than the other sections, and Dragos is actually hilarious. Our class would clap before and after every. single. class. Amazing prof in general!

He wasn't even my math prof, but I attended all his classes, since he is such a good teacher. He is the funniest prof I've ever had and explained all the concepts very well. What he emphasised was important came on the exam/midterm. His classes are super fun, you won't want to skip them!

Ghioca is basically the reincarnation of Newton, Euler and Gauss into 1 legend. Definitely my favourite professor in first year. Although the content was not always the easiest, he made lectures funny and engaging. You will not regret taking Math 100 with him. Didn't get to go to his live lectures unfortunately, but I saw his recorded lectures and he's an actual gem. Great professor who went into a lot of detail, and made sure that all doubts were covered. Went over difficult questions and concepts in a lot of detail, and gave tips on how to approach questions, which helped a lot for long questions.

Great professor. Super intelligent and funny, and he truly cares about his students. He will sometimes stick 30 minutes after a lecture to answer each student questions and make sure that they understand the material. In my opinion he was the best prof in Math 100

I know I got a bad grade but hear me out - this course was not easy and many people failed it this year. Nonetheless, Prof Ghioca is one of the best professors I had. He is HILARIOUS and though I struggled, I found his class enjoyable. He shows very relevant examples (questions that will likely be on the final) and is very thorough with teaching.

Dragos is an absolute legend. Every lecture he would go through 3-4 examples, but he gives out lecture notes at the beginning of term with many more examples for each lecture. Dragos is a super fun teacher who is passionate about his class, but I stopped attending his lectures because he is very quick, if you are a slow learner his classes will not help you learn math. If you are good at following at a high pace though you could not ask for a better prof.

I see that people think Dragos's class is hard by the level of difficulty rating. However, in my opinion in that of many of my peers, his class is the easiest of the other math sections since he actually reviews topics properly. It is MATH100 overall that's hard. Many of my friends went to his lecture even though they were in other classes.

Absolutely amazing person. Professor Ghioca gives examples that are relevant to the tests, has a hilarious sense of humor that he incorporates into his analogies, makes the material genuinely engaging, and sincerely cares about his students. His section average was 69% (nice), while others remained around 61%. Attend his section, will not regret :)

Professor Ghioca was a fantastic professor, my favourite of the semester. Each lecture, he'll go through three to five questions, usually past exam questions to enrich your learning. Occasionally he'll gloss over foundational topics such as basic derivatives, so if you haven't taken a calculus class before you might have to teach these to yourself.

Amazing professor! He genuinely cares about his students and really wants us to succeed. He gave very helpful examples during lectures, provided us with detailed course notes and practice, and was extremely helpful during office hours. If you use the resources he provides, you definitely have a good chance of succeeding in the course.

This is the best prof you will ever have on the planet. He needs his own talk show or podcast or something because I would listen to that all day. Amazing guy, you wont regret taking any of his classes. I had him for MATH 312, which is a pretty difficult subject, but he made it my favorite class.

Dragos was my best professor in first semester. He was engaging, always ready to help, and was easy to understand. He provides a huge number of practice problems that are relevant and similar to exam questions, and is always prepared and happy to answer any questions you may have.

Literally the best lectures ever and that's not an exaggeration. Go to class every week, it's very worthwhile. Do the homework as soon as you can following the lecture and make sure to read his lecture notes (different than in class notes); a question on an exam was the same as one of his examples.

Very passionate, but not always clear on what's new content (which we don't know how to do) vs. what's just practice (eg hard but we should understand it already). This is confusing.

Dr. Ghioca explains math in a energetic, humorous, and example-driven way which is not only really engaging for the class but also helps with building intuitions, especially for more abstract topics. Dr. Ghioca makes great in-depth lecture notes, and is willing to spend a lot of time to support students with understanding concepts after class too!

He is the BEST professor in UBC. He is very engaging during lectures. He makes everything super clear and interesting. Goes to his lecture! Especially those review where he covered content that will happen in the midterms. (he had covered similar examples of tests during those lecture) He will make math 101 a booster for your grade.

Excellent prof, but I do think he's somewhat overrated. His teaching style is somewhat erratic and lectures after probability density functions are quite hard to follow. He is super engaging, very funny, and has a lot of good stories. I think if his lecture topics were more clearly labeled, I would have done better in this course.

Dragos was amazing as a prof for 220, he made an extremely feared math class much more approachable. He answered questions with care and attention to detail. He's very bubbly always making jokes, while still being direct about the content of the class. He gave bonus marks for very good solutions which I went a long way for self esteem and average.

His lecture notes were extremely comprehensive. He also prepared us for exams extremely well (listen closely when he says "we have tested students on a question like this before")

Excellent instructor, he was clearly extremely knowledgeable on the course content and cared deeply about students' understanding. Lectures were engaging and informative, and his notes were consistently relevant and instructional. Funny guy as well.

He is so enthusiastic in all of his lectures, and so incredibly funny too. Facial expressions, random sci-fi references, and regular jokes keep you so engaged that you can't help but learn. He posts decent lecture notes before each lecture so you can prepare before hand, and he does multiple dedicated classes for midterm and exam prep. I love him.

It was great, I would definitely take a course with him again if I can.

My goat. Great lectures, he's funny and has a very warm personality. Tests were hard but he gives bonus marks which got me by. He wants you to do well and really believes in you, he's so nice!!

Don't underestimate his exams, it's reasonable difficultly, I hate proofs, but with Dragos it's my top 5 fav course must take! You learn cool tricks that computer or calculator can't compute and most of the course just revolves around divisibility, working with primes, and modulo arithmetic.
