An excellent professor. Develops a good habit in students for developing a precise language in Math which is very important.
Mr. Goral is a very good instructor - well versed, accurate and promotes good math skills.
His exams are hard, I don't recommend you take his online class b/c his response is slow.
He is awesome. Involves students in conversations, I dont think ive seen anyone fall asleep in this class, and thats impressive. Good teacher, makes everything clear. You wont be dissapointed with him.
He was the worst professor ever. I went to his office many times to get some more explanations, each time I got out of it even more confused. His lecture was: reading of the book. I strongly don’t recommend you to take him for MTH 285. 3/4 of the class got a C.
Dr Goral makes little or no effort to help students with the software that they use for his extended learning classes. The software is not supported by the college, so if there are problems, we have to go to him an he is less than acessable.
Mr goral is a very bad teacher. he doesnt care about anyone and hes just out to waste time and screw people over. His tests are hard and most of the class fails
Only 2 tests if you screw up one its hard to make up for it. It is impossible to get an "excellent" on the ungraded quizzes which are needed for grade boost. Has few office hours. The book is terrible and his notes are too. This class is too abstract for an online course. Could use video lectures.
This guy is very helpful and very good. The class is well structured - you just have to do the work!!!
very good teacher--slackers stay away
this guy honestly is one of the worst teachers i've ever had. Although i dont think i've ever laughed so much in a math class, it is only b/c all the students make fun of him and he doesnt notice. He gives the hardest test ever and there are only 3. so if your not good at test dont take his class
He is the worst math professor I have ever had.
If you like to have quizzes and exams that at least 30% have nothing to do with your homework and examples from the text-book, take this teacher.
WORST TEACHERRRRRR!!!!THERE ARE MORE ENGLISH PROBLEMS ON THE TESTS THAN MATH PROBLEMS, THE WORST TEXT BOOK WITH NO STEP BY STEP PROBLEMS, STRICT TEACHER NEVER GOT A EXCELLENT ON QUIZ, DON'T TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND GETTING A C OR LOWER
Absolutley the worst professor at Nova for an ELI Professor. He will never give an excellent on his quizes and as for his exams they are even worst. Nothing that is in the book will show up in the exam. If you want a "C" or a lower grade take him other wise go on campus and take Math 152.
Goral's not going to give you something for free. The guy's a real professor and expects real students. I didn't get a shining grade in his class, but I'm not going to blame it on him. He makes you think and if you understand the concepts, you'll understand his questions.
Warning do not take him!
Dr. Goral is a very intelligent professor. Despite teaching about 8 other sections at the same time, he was still able to pick up our class and be quite helpful. Although he may seem to digress from the topics at hand, he generally links his thoughts to pertinent ideas and will help prepare you for higher mathematics very well.
HORRIBLY BAD PROFESSOR!!!
He might be the worst human being alive.
Dr. Goral is a horrible professor. I would agree that he is extremely intelligent. He explains things so ineffectively, encourages questions, and belittles you when you ask them. As he told us after our class averaged a 50 on our midterm, "it's your responsibility to learn, not my responsibility to teach it." I will never take him again.
I took it online and prof. goral was helpful and the tests were less difficult than the quizzes (which were a substantial portion of the grade and graded on completion). Dr. Goral made time to meet with me in his office and did a standup job.
Wish I hadn't had the misfortune of taking a class with him. Very uncaring, not understanding with students.
He is the "Ideal" teacher you want. Total of 4 quizzes (not including final and there is no midterm) which you can drop your worst grade. Attendance is not mandatory and there is not homework. You have to know specific info by a certain date, no BS if you do that you can get an A no problem. Like I said, the Ideal teacher you want.
I thought he was the ideal teacher you could have for a logic class. Logically you dont need to show up to class to get an A, just pass his 3 exams. Logically you dont have to do homework to pass the class thats why he doesn't grade it. He is kind of hard, but not an ass like everyone is making him out to be.
worst, i did everything, and i am still best in mathematics; but he worried about my english grammer. We had a discussion in a math topic, that irritated him which cause my C grade, very bias
I worked very hard in this class, and ended up with my first C and a seriously undermined sense of self-confidence. I felt personally graded, rather than academically. The exams seemed to be graded arbitrarily, and incorrect answers were not specified. Grades are not posted publicly, so plan on wondering if you're the only one doing poorly.
Not the greatest professor. Expected everyone to understand the concepts after reading the book, but the book wasn't easy to understand. He just wasn't helpful.
A review of his online DE. If you are not a strong independent learner, will have a hard time. His class makes you study the whole concepts alone with little help. Quizes and exams are not hard (no trick questions). Course schedule are self-paced, allowing you to finish early depedning on your ability, which I did for 8 weeks with an A
he is okay. It is possible to get an A. He tries to put sneaky word problems on the test.
Extremely disappointed with this professor. Not all students who take it are liberal arts majors, but he seems to put way to much of your grading basis on wherther or not you are a good writer. I lost points on every exam because of misspelling and incorret usage. Exams are only 9questions so if you are confident you can do well good luck.
do not take this teacher! his tests are extremely hard and dont even cover what he says they should. i have one of the top 5 grades in my class and thats a D
ELI class, was expecting it to be difficult to teach myself math but he has horrific policies like: If a student is on the border between two grades and I feel they deserve the higher grade, I will give it to them AND Math is subjective. Since when is 2 + 2 debatable?
This course requires complete independence and self-learning. I had a hard time with some of the concepts and it would take days for this professor to get back to me, which makes it difficult to continue with the schedule. Some of the questions on quizzes and finals are tricky. He put things on them NOT covered in the book, which for an ELI course w
Taking this class for ELI. He does have a high standard for the presentation of your solutions, which can be a good thing because it increases math skills a great deal trying to abide by his standards. His comments on corrected quizzes are very clear and detailed, however his turnaround time on e-mails is about 5 days.
He was not as horrible as people say. He's kinda sneaky and will take points off if you spell wrong. .. It is possible to get an A!!
An ok guy. very interested in his technology than the math concept itself. he would teach the class other higher level math examples but then would say things like "u don't have to worry about this."Either way teaches fast. Tests are graded on technicality. failed me, yet i passed the placement test for mth 163 (show's me how well he grades tests).
Doesn't care about the student. Unclear. I should've listened to the other warnings on here before I took him. I graduated from a 4 yr school already but he was the most horrible teacher I had. Take him if you want an F.
absolutely does not care about the student at all. His website design/usage is terrible with all his classes and deadlines mixed up from every semester and year in the past. Makes no effort to communicate with you and inform you on what is going on in the ELI class.
Horrible! Abstract grading system. Impossible quizzes. Teaches new material on quiz.
In order to suceed in his class, I recomend reading the book to do his test. His explaination in class going to be a bit boring because he is not a very effective explainer and the topic he relates too aren't always easy. Attend classes is mandatory because that's going to help your grade decide if ur going B or C when your in the middle of the line. His quizzes are a bit tricky, but his tests aren't. He's isn't the best teacher but he's a nice guy.
Dr. Goral is probably one of the best professors that I have had at NOVA. He really changed my study habits and I am really glad I took his class.
Dr. Goral is probably one of the best professors that I have had at NOVA. He really changed my study habits and I am really glad I took his class.
I had him this semester for ELI MTH 151. He wasn't clear on his material. I would ask him how to solve question her would refer me to his website instead of answering my question. Very unforgiving. The worst ELI teacher I had.
He is very strict in terms of grading that it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get excellence on his quiz. But his exams are not that difficult but still, not easy, because he puts several concept questions that I have no idea how to answer. But I still managed to get A as a high school student. So he's not a terrible terrible teacher.
This guy is the absolute worst. New material on exams. Impossible quizzes. Bizarrely worded concept problems. On top of this, he has a terrible elitist attitude. He is rude to students. His meetings are useless as he rambles on about theory for often hours. Avoid this guy. It's sad that NVCC pays him.
Dr. Goral is an extremely tough teacher, but is also extremely helpful and he DOES care about his students. Many times throughout the course, he assisted me late into the night via eMeetings when I requested them. He went out of his way and sacrificed his personal time to help me out. The biggest problems with his classes are the textbooks.
I've taken both 277 and 291 online. Dr. Goral is an alright guy. He will try to help you if you ask for it. This is an alright class but I am very glad I won't be taking anymore of his exams. They aren't super hard, just the weird conceptual problems leave a bad taste in my mouth. Dr. Goral is challenging, getting an A or B will not be easy.
Dr. Goral is an alright guy. But his course is very challenging. He will help you if you need it. I've taken both 277 and 291 with this guy online. I am glad I won't have to take anymore of his exams or quizzes, both of which I believe are impossible to do execellent on so don't waste your time, just accept that you will be getting C or B.
I was retaking the course and had a full understanding of the math before going into his class. I even tutored a friend while taking it. This guy is a prick. He actively searched for reasons to take off points. You need to include unnecessary parenthesis. He will not curve tests. He gives pop-quizzes, so go to class.
Not a bad guy but definitely a bad teacher, that is if he can be considered a teacher. I'm retaking the class from another college and I feel bad for everyone in the class. Everything were learning is much easier then he teaches it to be and he's extremely picky when it comes to grading. I didn't get a single problem wrong but still got a B...
If you need help, he's more than willing to take the time to help. If you do the HW, the assigned problems for each section, there should be no problem getting a "B" in the class. The exams are very simple forms of the HW... sometimes just changing a number or a sin to cos. Put effort and ask for help and you'll be fine.
I took him this fall and he's a good person but not such a great teacher. Our class average was always in the 6x or lower range, he refused to curve any tests but he does drop the lowest one. Very unclear with the material and spends copious amounts of class time going over 3 homework problems and then rushes over the lesson. Do not take him.
Dr. Goral is willing to help if you ask for it. However, the help received is generally drawn out and sporadically explained. His downfall as a professor is not a lack of understanding of the course, but his methods of teaching and his ability to teach. This online class is an evaluation of your ability to teach yourself out of a textbook.
He says that he is available for help anytime via email. However, it will take him several days to respond and his response won't even help. If you are going to take another course, then take it with another professor.
This professor is very difficult to deal with. He is extremely particular about your work and will criticize work that is not to his liking. As far as actual teaching, is it nonexistent, so you better be prepared to do all the work on your own. My recommendation, do not take this course with Dr. Goral---anybody else would offer more.
At first it seemed like he was a tough grader because his quiz feedback was very particular. And I had to rely on outside sources to learn the material. But he was always willing and available to go over questions. I did well by studying the exam guidelines, watching recordings of old e-meetings reviewing his quiz feedback.
Don't take him. Worst prof. ever. You need to know "math language" in order to explain the answer in the quiz. I'm not sure how he grades the midterm and final. He is not helpful; his explanation for just one question is related to presentation, and all you do is study by yourself. Good luck with whoever takes him. Just waste time, money!!!
You must be extremely self motivated to do well. You automatically get an A for all of the quizzes, so long as you turn them in, and his exams are no more difficult than the quiz problems. Pay close attention to the feedback he gives you, and ask for clarification. He will challenge any bad math habits you have developed, so do not be sloppy.
Should have read the reviews. I didn't think I needed to for an online course. He's often more interested in being sarcastic and showing off than seeing his own students succeed. There were MANY times where I answered a problem correctly, used the right method, yet received points off for not writing it down the exact way he wanted you to. USELESS.
he does not know how to teach!!
He was a very tough grader, but this turns out to be a good thing, he pushed me to improve my math skills and really make me earn my B. Just an FYI, if you're on the online course then really study for the tests. It's not open book, no calculator, and very time consuming. The final exam is cumulative, so make sure you go over everything beforehand
This is the worst professor I have ever had. His grading sytem is completely ridiculous. There is absolutely no extra credit to help you bosst your grade. He is neither clear nor helpful. most that the Half of the class dropped his class after two weeks . Do not take him
Great teacher if you already know what you are doing. He sometimes gets long winded answering questions and have to go over material fairly quickly.
TERRIBLE TEACHER and this is coming from a student who got a 4 (A FOUR!) on the AP Calculus AB Exam in high school. His exams have very little to do with what we go over in class or in the textbook, he asks very off-topic questions in class (like whether engineers should be using Wolfram or their brains for integration), etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
He does not give extra work to work on besides the textbook which is no help. He would not teach he class, you have to teach yourself. He grade test pretty hard. Don't take his class you will suffer!!!
17 people got an F on his final exam. 0 got an A and 2 got a B. He does not teach you and has no problem failing the entire class.
Whoever you are, whatever is it you're doing, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN
This guy is a literally the worst professor I had in my two years at NOVA. I almost never rate professors, that being said, DO NOT TAKE HIM. Harsh grader, pop quizzes and oh yeah, He depends on a math program to do the work. Not once did i see him write on the board. Even if every other 173 class if full, AVOID, find another way to take the class.
Lectures are fast paced with little to no practice on current materials, quizzes are not enough as he pops out them expecting you to understand them off the bat. Calls out all the students expecting easy understandings but backfires, tons of people dont get it! Would not recommended this Professor if you have difficulties comprehending Math!
I will admit that as an engineering student, I found the emphasis on logic and the base principles of math to be a little abstract for my liking. However, the man is perfectly willing to explain anything that you don't understand, and he NEVER tries to trick you on the exam. Beware "simple" questions though. He's long-winded!
He is a very tough grader, the highest grade anyone received on his first exam was a 65. I would not recommend his class at all. I never rate my professor but I want other students to know this class is not worth it. This class was the hardest class I have ever taken at NOVA.
Horrible professor. Learned absolutely nothing from the homework or lectures. If you were there for the quiz you got full points. Tests were nothing like the quizzes and way harder. Spent hours reading the textbook, watching videos and doing practice but didn't help. Retook the class the following semester with another professor and received an A.
Very smart man, a little quirky with occasional lord of the rings jokes. Quizzes every single class and grades them super hard. If you get the problem right but you don't solve it the way he wants it done he marks points off. No graded homework but you go over it for a majority of the class time so you basically have to teach yourself at home
My favorite subject was math entire school years. BUT HE IS THE WORST TEACHER. He is a great person but not a great teacher. I took this course online maybe thats why it was more difficult. But his grading is so bad. He cuts point from simple things. No one ever got %100 for tests and quizzes. Not recommend it.
Do not take high-level math courses with him, there are better professors at NOVA. He took way to long to cover homework problems in class (b/c he doesn't work through them himself), didn't introduce the material in an intuitive way for most students (1 person got a B through the 1st 2 exams), and did not provide study guides. You can do better.
Do not take high-level math courses with him. He doesn't cover the material in a way that is easy to follow (1 student got a B through 1st 2 exams), takes way to long to go over homework problems and often doesn't finish working through them, and does not provide study guides for exams. Try another instructor, you deserve a better teacher!
great prof if you hate yourself. instead of leading a horse to water, he tells the horse about the concept of ponds and leaves you to die of thirst. the man doesn't know how to teach and his tests are awful. the entire class failed the first exam and blamed it on us. disrespectful and egotistical. don't.
In my 5 years of University, this is the worst professor I have ever had. He shamed his students in class when every single person failed the first exam. Half the class dropped out. Calc 2 is NOT easy, but this professor made everything more difficult to understand by not knowing how to finish his own homework problems in class. RUN FAR AWAY!
Dont take this professor. Period!!!!!!! . Taking him is a big mistake. DONt TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even the students who excel in his class says he grades very harshly. Be ready to participate every second of class even if you do not have any questions, otherwise your GPA will pay for it. He gets very agitated and childish when things do not go his way. His class website is hard to navigate and is some off brand site. You have been warned.
This class will teach you the information of MTH264 at the expense of your GPA. Half or more of our class dropped outlet that speak for itself. Our class average for both exams was 50 which shows that the teacher is putting information into the exam that the class has obviously not mastered. Find another teacher that teaches this same class.
Jesus Chris! if you take this class, be ready to study everything for the tests :) have fun taking him if you want to study super hard. He expects you to study "everything." he won't let you pass easily. my classmates were 18 dropped to 13 after the first exam and withdrew to 8 people left in the class. DON'T EVER TAKE HIM!

Took this class virtually and did not enjoy it. Frequent tangents, and only reading from the textbook. Professor would stop class multiple times a lecture to complain about people not having their webcam on. Overall I feel my time was wasted and I learned more from YouTube while studying for the tests. The only grades were 3 tests and quizzes..
To put it simply most of the class failed the first test. Only 5 people got passing grades in a class of 30something people. I found that the textbook in the library was more informative. He is funny smart and nice as a person but he is more qualified as an engineer than as a teacher. I dropped after that first test
No online homework. The homework was in a textbook that was confusing just to be pretentious. Professor goes off on tangents about lord of the rings and explains memes like "you shall not pass" even though we all already get the joke instead of just teaching. Unless questions were done answered exactly the way he wanted, you are not getting credit.
AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!
class started with almost 30 people, by the end there where only 5 or 6, this is pre calc not theoretical physics, it should not be this hard to teach, the teacher does not have test study guides and the tests and quizzes are nothing alike, all that is needed is a cumulative review of each unit and a test review/study guide. avoid at all costs!!!
be ready to teach yourself -reads through new section and gives us no practice because he expects us to do it at home, and then gives a quiz right after. -he grades on very few things -explanations are not very fluid -if you have a busy schedule with other classes, do not take him
he solely reads off the textbook for lecture as “notes.” if you value your gpa, do NOT even consider taking his course cuz you'll have to teach the material to yourself. the class started with a little over 10 people and by the end of the second exam (which everyone except one person) failed, the class was a ghost town
Avoid this class if possible. The tests and quizzes are vastly different, making it hard to prepare. Thankfully, tools like Unstuckstudy and the textbook helped somewhat, but the professor's teaching style just didn't click for me.
Terrible professor. He rambles during lectures and tests on unrelated material. Over half the class failed the first exam, and when confronted, he said it wasn't related to his lazy incoherent teaching. To succeed, you'll need to memorize the entire textbook. I regret not reading reviews beforehand. Stay away.
The worst!
Idk how, but he makes mistakes on at least 1/3 of his problems every class so if you don't already know most of the content and your writing everything down bring some extra erasers. He also just gave me a 74% on an exam where I got every question right so I'm kinda raging. How do I put a gun emoji pointing at a smiling emoji on here.
This prof grades on whims, not logic. I lost points because my "f" for function wasn't curved enough. Exams are way too short, so missing one tiny niche detail ruins your whole grade. With 10+ chapters on a 15-question final, it is a total lottery. My friend studied days longer than me and got the same score. Unpredictable and unfair. AVOID.
